For many drivers of Kazakhstan, some signs remain a mystery. Especially the ones that look alike.
Sometimes, I became a witness when a seemingly experienced driver hesitated at the entrance to the intersection: is it possible to make a left turn? And the reversal? There seemed to be no prohibition signs, but uncertainty took over, and he drove to the next one.
Left turn and U-turn signs are the most confusing for most drivers. How to remember them? Let's try this way.
Easy to remember: if the sign is in a red circle, then it is forbidding. If the red line crosses out the direction, it’s all the more clear that you can’t go there. But many do not know that it has nothing to do with the turn and it only prohibits the left turn, and nothing more.

The sign, as in the case above, is also obvious. But because of the ban on the U-turn, it seems to many that it also prohibits the left turn. This is not true. Remember: prohibition signs introduce certain traffic restrictions, that is, only in the indicated directions! This sign does not prohibit a left turn.

These signs in the city are much more common than prohibitory ones. It may seem strange, but they will be stricter. It’s better to remember this way: where the arrows in a round sign on a blue background show, we go there.

And once again: where the arrow in a round sign on a blue background points, we go there. Moreover, if this sign allows a left turn, then it also allows a U-turn.
Allow turn left and turn
We see these signs in front of intersections, usually from above. They tell the driver which lane is allowed to go where. When a sign shows a turn from the extreme left lane, then it does not prohibit a U-turn, unless, of course, there is a forbidding U-turn.
A sign of this kind can prohibit a left turn and a U-turn.
5.11.1 "Place to turn"
We can meet this sign in places where you can turn around. But often there is a passage opposite the turnaround area (entrance to the yard or to the gas station), and drivers use this - you can turn around, and therefore turn too. Not! Traffic rules in this case only allow a U-turn! Easy to remember: you are only allowed to move in the indicated direction.

If such a sign hangs in front of the intersection, then the crossed street is one-way, it does not prohibit driving straight ahead. The arrow points to the right, which means that when you turn left, you will find yourself in the oncoming lane.
And then what about the reversal? Is it possible? Specifically, this sign does not prohibit it, unless, of course, next to or above the intersection there are no others described above that would really prohibit a U-turn. Strange, right?

Everything is put in its place by paragraph 7 of section 8 of the SDA of the Republic of Kazakhstan: the turn (and when turning you have to be guided by the same paragraph) should be carried out in such a way that when leaving the intersection of the carriageways, the vehicle does not end up on the side of oncoming traffic. Having turned around at the intersection, you are in the intersection zone, which means that there is no violation.
Signs 2.6 "Priority to oncoming traffic" and 2.7 "Priority to oncoming traffic"
Signs 2.6 and 2.7 do not refer to turns or U-turns, they are priority signs that tell on a narrow stretch of path who should give way to whom. Due to similar names and arrows, confusion arises - who should give way to whom here? In addition, they are rare, you can just forget their meaning.
Easy to remember: a sign in a red circle usually indicates a ban on something. So right? If you see him, stop to let an oncoming car pass.

Making a right turn to the left is incredibly important for traffic safety.
The fact is that, when moving to the left, the driver in the lion's share of cases is obliged to give way to oncoming (and sometimes not oncoming) vehicles.
And this introduces nervousness into the coherent system of social relations called traffic.
That is why on problematic sections of the road, where there is a high probability of a traffic jam due to a left turn, there is often a need to limit it. And in such cases, the prohibitive mechanism of the sign "Turn to the left is prohibited" is used.
A driver who is familiar with the rules of the road will not panic when meeting this sign. He clearly knows that the sign 3.18.2 "No left turn" prohibits only a left turn and nothing more.
If there is a need to move in other directions - straight, to the right and, most importantly, to turn around - then this can be done without fear of breaking the law and being subjected to an administrative penalty for this.
The driver must clearly understand for himself the stupid (sorry!) formula for organizing traffic: driving under the sign to the left is prohibited because ... FORBIDDEN! And that's all. No comment.
On the one hand, the fact of the presence of a sign, and, on the other hand, its expediency in given road conditions are two fundamentally different things. And you should not think about the question why there is a sign "Turn to the left is prohibited."
It is installed, and, therefore, operates. And forbids the left turn. A violation of this regulatory mechanism means legal liability in the form of an administrative penalty. In general, you can’t - it means you can’t!
And rightly so, you can't. Otherwise, turning left, you can meet face to face, for example, with some kind of prohibition sign, excluding the possibility of further movement. And the driver will have to be tormented by the pangs of doubt about the possibility (and most often the impossibility) of a U-turn and reversing.
Very often, the “No Left Turn” sign is used to restrict entry to a gas station adjacent to the left when it has another entrance. In this case, the uninterrupted process of traffic flow through the gas station is optimized (in a strictly specified direction - from arrival to departure).
The zone of action of the sign is determined by the boundaries of the intersection of the carriageways in front of which it is installed. And if it is strictly forbidden to turn left at the intersection, then after passing the intersection the sign no longer “works”.
It will not be superfluous to note the fact that the sign "Turn to the left is prohibited" is valid at the INTERSECTION. But not at the intersection, because the intersection can be formed not by one, but by several intersections of carriageways.
And the sign installed in front of such an intersection will regulate traffic only at the first intersection. But on the second intersection (and even more so subsequent ones), its regulatory function will not apply.
The rules do not exclude the possibility of installing a sign in combination with a sign. This combination will indicate the introduction of a ban on the left turn through the distance indicated on the plate.
This will allow the driver, who intends to turn left at the nearest intersection, to simulate in time the mechanism of his actions in the changed road conditions. Road safety in this case will only benefit.
Finally, according to the SDA, for a route vehicle, the sign “No left turn” makes an exception. The driver of this vehicle can, without fear of responsibility, ignore the fact of its installation and move in any direction. The law will be on the driver's side.

The concentration of traffic flows on the country's highways is increasing every day. Traffic intensity also affects traffic safety. The main regulatory document remains the rules of the road. In about 70% of cases, due to their inattention, motorists create emergency situations on the road, especially when signs prohibit turning left. Let's take a look at the traffic rules.
Left turn sign prohibited 3.18.2
The purpose of this sign is to bring order to traffic on busy streets. Often, on problematic sections of the road, there is a possibility of a long “traffic jam” due to driving to the left.
To prevent traffic jams, a no left turn sign is installed, in the form of a white circle outlined by a red line. In the middle is a crossed out curved arrow indicating the prohibition of movement on the left side. The practical expediency of such signs sometimes leaves much to be desired.
Violation of the rules for turning left will result in a fine of 1500 rubles.

The sign is only at the nearest intersection of roads, but not at the intersection, where there are an order of magnitude more of them (see Figure 1).
Mandatory signs 4.1.1, 4.1.2 and 4.1.4
Installed signs 4.1.1, 4.1.2, 4.1.4 prescribe traffic at the intersection and along the road section in the direction indicated by the white arrow on the sign and are valid until the first intersection or entry into the adjacent territory.
- Sign 4.1.1- allows movement only straight ahead, movement to the right, left and a U-turn is prohibited.
- Sign 4.1.2- allows you to turn right, but a turn, movement straight and left is prohibited.
- Sign 4.1.4- allows movement straight and to the right, and a U-turn and a turn to the left are prohibited.
Exit to the road with one-way traffic sign 5.7.1
Sign 5.7.1 "exit to the road with one-way traffic" When leaving the adjacent territory or when passing through an intersection with a sign 5.7.1, it means that a left turn is prohibited and a U-turn. In this case, you are allowed to go straight (if possible) or to the right.
Sign 5.13.1 exit to the road with a lane for MTS
Sign 5.13.1When crossing an intersection or entering a road in front of which sign 5.13.1 is installed, it means that you will cross a one-way road to the right (the first lane / lanes from you) and a dedicated lane for fixed-route vehicles (the last lane of the road from you ).
According to the traffic rules, you are allowed to drive straight (if possible) or to the right. Turning to the left is prohibited, as well as this sign prohibits a U-turn.
Signs 6.3.1 and 6.3.2 prohibiting a left turn
Information signs 6.3.1 and 6.3.2 are installed to the left of the direction of movement of the vehicle to indicate and inform about the approach to a section of the road where the signs allow a U-turn:
- Sign 6.3.1- installed in front of a section of the road where a left turn is allowed.
- Sign 6.3.2- is installed in front of a section of the road and indicates the zone where it is allowed to make a left turn.
According to the traffic rules, signs 6.3.1 and 6.3.2 prohibit turning left and allow movement in other directions (as far as possible).
Exceptions for public transport
Do not immediately panic when meeting with the sign 3.18.2 if you drive a bus or other type of public transport. According to the rules of the road, the effect of the sign 3.18.2 "No left turn" does not apply to route vehicles.
