Design of curtains in two different colors. How to sew curtains from two fabrics of different colors with your own hands: schemes and ideas for combined curtains and tulle. Ideas for combining fabrics

To give uniqueness to the interior of the kitchen, you can choose stylish furniture, unusual finishes or bright dishes. And you can experiment with textiles, using combined curtains of two colors or a combination of several types of fabrics of different textures - this method does not require a thorough repair or serious costs and is ideal for novice designers. Therefore, we will consider in more detail the basic techniques of "textile combinatorics" and a few win-win ideas for decorating the kitchen.

The kitchen is one of the few rooms in the house where window drapery plays a predominantly decorative role. Of course, residents of the first floors or apartments, whose windows face the sunny side, also use it as protection from excess light and prying eyes, but still the main purpose of the curtains in the kitchen is to give comfort to the “home”. In order for the new two-color curtains to fit perfectly into the interior, it is important not to forget about the general principles of harmony and ways to visually correct the space.

4 rules for successful combinations:

Heat and cold

Many people know that for the "northern" rooms it is better to choose curtains of warm colors, and for sun-drenched windows - cold. But it is also important to take into account the fact that warm colors visually bring the object closer, so in a small kitchen you should give preference to cold colors, which will visually move the window away and give the room volume. However, you can also use an alternative option - neutral tones, complemented by a small pattern or small inserts of yellow, orange, grass green or another "warming" color.

Harmony and accents

Curtains can be designed in harmony with the decoration and furniture of the kitchen, or become a bright touch that attracts the eye. To make the interior look harmonious, it is worth duplicating the color scheme of the window drapery in other textiles or accessories.

Color and texture

You can combine curtains using several canvases of the same type, but in different shades, or by combining materials of different texture and degree of transparency. But do not forget about practicality, because we are talking about a kitchen with its special microclimate, which is characterized by high humidity, high temperature, soot and smoke with the aromas of cooking food. Therefore, the materials should not be easily soiled and easy to care for, for example, organza, cotton with polyester, mesh, crepe chiffon.

Drawings and patterns

With the help of ornaments characteristic of a particular style, you can emphasize the thematic direction of the design. For example, in country, Provence and other rustic interiors, checkered and floral curtains, a simple lambrequin, which can be combined with plain pastel-colored curtains, are appropriate. Historical styles are complemented by light curtains with golden embroidery or printed silk. And for modern kitchens, decorated in the spirit of hi-tech or minimalism, monochrome models on grommets and fabric blinds with photo printing are suitable.

Patterns can also be used to visually change the geometry of a room. For example, vertical stripes on long floor-length curtains will visually raise a low ceiling, a horizontal pattern will “spread” the walls and enlarge the window opening, large bright flowers will bring the window closer, and a small print will move it away.

As for the combinations of patterns of various types, it is not at all necessary to use only one type of pattern on several curtains. On the contrary, by boldly combining longitudinal and horizontal stripes with bright splashes of peas or flowers, you can achieve a stylish and modern bow. But the traditional floral print, used on only one element, is more suitable for calm classic styles.

Note! It is important that the curtains are not only combined with the rest of the room, but also with each other - color, ornament, texture or accessories.

The easiest option for creating a unique textile design for a kitchen window is to use two types of combined curtains. The best duet for the kitchen can be Roman or roll designs, complemented by airy curtains, short curtains or pelmets. Curtains made of the same material of different colors look no less impressive.

Ideas for creating color cocktails

Let us consider in more detail how to combine curtains of two colors, taking into account the specifics of the kitchen and the stylistic design of the room.

  1. In tandem with a neutral color

A favorite trick from the arsenal of the classics is to use a neutral shade (white, gray, milky, beige) and any accent color as the main one. Most often, a curtain or a roller blind is made in light colors, and a lambrequin or thick curtains act as a contrast or addition - it all depends on the intensity of the chosen color.

The two-tone red and white ensemble looks bright and dressy.

Monochromatic materials are ideal for kitchens decorated in modern styles - minimalism, hi-tech, modern. But if you want non-standard solutions, you can use fabrics with a pattern or a multi-colored print as a “base”, echoing the main colors used in decorating and furnishing the room. You can “dilute” two-tone fabrics with bright checks, stripes, floral or geometric patterns - these ornaments look very organic in a kitchen setting, especially if the rest of the textiles are designed in the same spirit.

Advice! You can buy identical curtains in several bright colors and change them according to the season or mood - a neutral base is easy to combine with any color.

  1. Game of contrasts

This option can be a godsend for outrageous interiors, in the design of which bright colors are used. Contrasting curtains can harmoniously complement the rich colors already present in the decoration or other textiles, giving the kitchen an elegant look. The most popular solutions are bright curtains from colors of the opposite spectrum (red-green, yellow-blue, black-white), from which you can create really unusual designs by weaving fabrics together. But even even stripes of contrasting tones look stylish and original - evaluate the various options for curtains made of two colors of fabric, the photos of which are provided below:

Intricate interweaving of two colors - green and orange

Non-standard neighborhood - juicy berry and rich light green shade

Airy two-tone curtains with contrasting patterns

The most difficult thing is to choose the right “opposing” shades so that the window does not look like alien elements against the background of the overall picture. As a hint, you can take any two colors already present in the interior and increase their intensity as you wish. To make it easier to select contrasts and the degree of their brightness, use a small visual hint.

The principle of selecting contrasting shades

Advice! A two-tone combination of bright curtains can quickly get boring, so it is recommended to combine them with a third neutral shade or “dose” the brightness at your discretion, reducing the area of \u200b\u200bany of the colors so that more than 70% is allocated for the main tone.

A combination in which fabrics from the same or similar colors are used, but with varying degrees of intensity. For example, coffee-colored curtains can be combined with a rich chocolate curtain, blue tulle with emerald-colored curtains, peach tones with red, yellow with orange, etc.

As a unifying motif, not only color can be used, but also an ornament that repeats on window textiles. In this case, the color scheme of the pattern and fabric may be different.

Combined curtains, united by a pattern

Advice! If layered designs of several curtains are not to your liking, you can sew double curtains from fabrics of various colors and create interesting combinations using tiebacks, tucking the curtain or forming contrasting folds. This solution has another advantage - the ability to periodically change the front side from the wrong side, creating the illusion of updating the interior.

How to combine curtains from different fabrics

Two-color curtains with different textures are an interesting technique in which you can get a lot of ideas for the original design of the kitchen.

A few tips for successful combinations:

  • Use textures of varying degrees of transparency or interlaced designs. The imposition of a curtain of one color on another will create the illusion of the presence of a third unifying shade.

Overlay of fabrics of two different colors with a smooth transition

  • To prevent combined curtains from different fabrics from looking scattered, use some common element when creating a design. It can be a braid or pickup from the same fabric, the same pattern, frill, bow.

A border to match the color of the curtains unites the combined red and white design into a single whole

The uniting elements of the combined drapery are garters, a ribbon-bake and a two-tone frill

  • Products from several cuts of matter look very original. Moreover, when sewing, it is not necessary to observe symmetry - in some styles, “patchwork” curtains, decorated in a creative mess, give the room a special charm and homeliness. To harmoniously combine the curtains with the rest of the situation, you can use not only two primary colors, but also various patches, remaining after sewing other kitchen textiles - tablecloths, chair covers or furniture upholstery.

  • For discreet interiors, in which pastel shades and natural tones predominate, combined curtains of two types from different fabrics, but in the same color, are suitable. This technique will give the room volume and complement the decor with a discreet but interesting element.

Master class on sewing two-color curtains

If you have decided on the most important thing - the type of construction, the type of fabric and the colors of future curtains - it remains to buy material for work and contact any studio. But if you have a sewing machine at home, it is much cheaper to sew curtains from two-color fabrics with your own hands. And so that you can evaluate your capabilities and skills, we suggest that you familiarize yourself with an approximate algorithm for the upcoming work.

Determining the amount of fabric

To find out how much fabric is needed to sew the selected model, 3 main parameters are taken into account: the length of the cornice, the width of the fabric in the roll and the pomp of the drapery. If the first two values can be obtained by simple measurements using a tape measure, then with a margin for folds, puffs or flounces, you need to think carefully, and perhaps even use an “experimental” model from a sheet or duvet cover.

Calculation Hint:

  • for thick curtains, the length of the cornice should be multiplied by the assembly factor 1.2-1.5;
  • for curtains on grommets that form spectacular folds, the length must be increased by 1.5-2 times;
  • for light tulle, curtains made of organza, voile or chiffon, you will need a margin of 2.5-3 times the length of the cornice.

Calculation of the assembly factor according to the type of curtain fastening

Important! You can determine the fabric consumption using the following formula: (cornice length X assembly factor) / fabric width in a roll. The height is taken from the calculation of the planned length of the product (to the window sill, to the middle of the window, to the floor) plus a margin for folds of 5-10 cm.

We prepare tools and materials for work

To sew a simple model of combined two-color curtains for the kitchen - air curtains of various colors - you will need: light fabric according to pre-made measurements, a curtain tape for forming spectacular folds, inlay, needles, scissors, pins and a sewing machine.

Important! For combined curtains, it is worth making your own tiebacks, especially if you plan to use them as a unifying element, because it may not be possible to find a ready-made option that perfectly matches the color of the curtains.

Perform fabric cutting

Since most often the size of the fabric in the roll does not match the required width of the curtains, you will need to cut the fabric into strips. To make an even cut, you can mark with a ruler and chalk, or gently pull out one of the vertical threads.

On a note! You can sew two curtains from material of different colors, or create a combined version by combining multi-colored cuts of canvases in each curtain.

Now it remains to attach the curtain tape to the upper edge, making a hem along the width of the braid on the fabric, gather each curtain with a draw cord and hang it by the loops on the hooks of the eaves. You can fix the finished curtains with lush bows, pickups or magnetic tapes - at your discretion.

Fixed hook loops must not be sewn to the fabric.

Advice! Ready-made curtains can be combined with other decorative elements, such as pelmets, fringes, lush frills or fabric tie loops.

Video lesson: how to combine curtains of different colors and textures

Using two-color curtains in the kitchen is not a new technique for a long time. But if you choose original combinations of colors or fabrics with an interesting texture, you can create a unique interior in which textiles will be the main highlight of the design. And it is not at all necessary to complete the cutting and sewing courses in order to get a model of curtains according to your idea - it is enough to transfer the idea to paper and provide a sketch to an experienced seamstress.

Curtains play a significant role in interior decor. They can both increase the space and reduce it. And they can bring something new and original to the design of the room. If you are one of those who want "something new" and unusual in the design of the apartment's rooms, we advise you to sew curtains from two colors of fabric. This is a very boring solution - so you can dilute the interior, adding brightness to it or focusing on some individual colors.

Sew curtains from two fabrics: important nuances

If you want to bring brightness to the interior and your goal is to sew two-color curtains yourself, you should take into account some of the nuances.

Picture. If you decide to sew curtains in two colors of fabric and with a pattern, then in this case the direction of the pattern can be either horizontal or vertical. This will help visually enlarge the room and make it more spacious. But if you chose an ornament as a pattern on the curtains, it is worth considering here that this option is suitable for those rooms where there are no too active and flashy design details. If you have a lot of different figurines and other design elements in your room, you better sew curtains from two fabrics without a pattern, choose plain materials.

Structure. If your goal is to make the interior lighter, then choose smoother and lighter fabrics, with a slightly noticeable pattern - they will add airiness to the room (idea for living rooms or kitchens). But fabrics with clearly visible patterns and patterns, embossed and, as a result, denser ones will “compress” the space somewhat, making the atmosphere more intimate (this can be a good option for bedrooms).

Color. It is important to choose colors that will be successfully combined with each other and will not "argue". In particular, excellent combinations will be: for the nursery or bedroom of a teenage girl - lilac and pink colors, for the living room - deep chocolate and warm milky colors. If you want to play with contrasts and just focus on the window, choose colors that contrast with each other: not only the usual black and white, gray and pink, blue and yellow, brown and beige also look spectacular.

Sew curtains in two colors

If you decide to sew curtains in two different colors, it is important to choose the right type of fabric. Of course, you are free to make a choice at your discretion, but, as a rule, in this case, the following types of materials are chosen: brocade, taffeta, organza, silk, blackout, linen, hemp, cotton, jute, velvet. They always look spectacular and stylish.

Of course, in order to sew curtains from two colors of fabrics with your own hands, you need at least basic knowledge of cutting and sewing. And also take into account some features of tailoring such curtains. We offer some schemes for working in this direction:

Classic. One of the simplest and most affordable options is classic traditional curtains. That is, when for curtains there are two rectangular blanks of fabrics that can be modeled and combined. It's simple and stylish. And even a beginner can handle it.

Up and down. This solution looks very interesting: put a plain fabric on top and bottom, and in the center (in the middle) use a fabric with a pattern or pattern. This is also a simple option, but already more interesting.

Combined curtains - the most common option for decorating window openings. The classic combination of translucent curtains with thick curtains is a time-tested combination option, which, first of all, has a purely utilitarian function, it allows you to change the interior lighting.

Practical utilitarianism, through the efforts of designers and owners who seek to ennoble and decorate a living space, has gradually turned into a whole art direction - interior design.

The combination of canvases on window openings can be a three- or even four-layer structure made of various materials, inserts, and decorative finishes. Layering, slightly pushed back in the last decade by minimalism, is gaining momentum again. We can safely say that the "textile" combination will never go out of fashion, because it contains the basic principles of a person's desire for comfort, warmth, security, beauty.

Having minimal skills in needlework and artistic taste, after looking at the design photos of the combined curtains, you can make an original composition of fabrics and accessories on the window yourself.

Playing with color...

Color is the first thing that catches the eye in any interior. Design canons regarding color combinations can sometimes be pushed aside and experimented with multi-colored materials as you like. As a result, interesting unexpected effects can be obtained.

The main principle is to avoid fussiness, overloading with prints, patterns, and monochromatic materials can be combined endlessly.

Color inserts and stripes are spectacular along the edges of the curtains, at the top, bottom, in the middle, vertically, horizontally and even diagonally. At the same time, it should be taken into account that vertical lines will add height to the room, horizontal lines will add width, and diagonal lines will add dynamism.

Bright contrasting combinations are suitable for an apartment of a young couple, a children's room, an active fresh interior.

Classic tonal transitions of brown-beige, pastel green and blue, noble dark chocolate, emerald green will require compliance with all the canons of the design palette, but will bring peace, coziness and comfort to the house. Luxurious burgundy, lilac, purple shades, diluted with light gray, pale pink, milky white tones will create an atmosphere of sophistication, aristocratic chic.

Curtains for the kitchen, bedroom, living room must be selected in accordance with the overall design concept, creating not separate fragmented compositions, but the image of the whole house. Combined panels, thanks to the compatibility of materials, do an excellent job with this task.

Playing with texture...

Color sets the general direction, but texture gives depth, general aesthetics, expressiveness.

Two types of fabric, identical in color but different in texture, can make an excellent window decoration combination. For those who are not confident in their artistic taste, for beginner designers, curtains made of combined fabrics are a win-win option. There are several main options for combining by invoice:

  • Thin translucent fabric and dense fabric of the same color.
  • Translucent light curtain fabrics, organza curtains in combination with dark heavy curtain materials.
  • Light transparent fabrics (kapron, veil,) of different colors and densities.
  • Dense heavy fabrics of different textures, for example, satin and velvet, satin and jacquard, silk and tapestry.

Advice! Expensive heavy and dense materials are well combined with each other in texture, but it is better to combine simple inexpensive chintz with chintz of the same quality. The same rule applies to linen.

Manufacturers specifically for convenient combination produce collections of companion fabrics, including not only curtain materials, but also upholstery fabrics.

Having wondered how to combine curtains in two colors, but of different textures, you should pay attention to such materials, if not for use, then at least for an example of a combination. Using fabrics from the same collection will create a harmonious, cozy interior.

When working with texture, do not forget about the showiness of lush draperies. A large volume emphasizes the difference in textures, gives depth to color, makes the room cozy, especially in the cool season, at night.

When using combination techniques, it is easy to combine window decor with furniture or wallpaper, wall decoration. It is not necessary to choose perfectly tone-on-tone large panels of curtains for the living room, there are enough small but spectacular details that the curtains will unite with the overall design of the room.

We play with volume, shape, method of fastening and closing ...

Combined curtains of two colors can be made with simple straight Japanese-style straightened panels, or you can create a multi-layered lush composition in the spirit of a rococo boudoir. It all depends on the preferences of the owners, the chosen style of the room.

Laconic translucent curtains with decoration in the center or edges will maximize the preservation of natural light. Dense heavy curtains will create a feeling of security, warmth, mystery.

The volume is set by the length of the curtains. Long curtains lying on the floor are typical for classic interiors, short ones for a light rustic style (country, Provence). By adding a spectacular lace or finishing fabric along the bottom, you can, on the one hand, lengthen the curtain, and on the other, bring a touch of exclusivity.

An important point when combining fabrics and individual details in window design is the method of fastening.

Main ways:

  • fastening directly to the fabric panel, stitching elements of different colors and textures;
  • fastening on one cornice of complementary canvases;
  • fastening additional parts on separate devices (cornice board, additional hooks, loops).

Separate hanging of elements is convenient because they are easy to remove or replace, unlike sewn-on decorative parts.

Do not forget about the possibility of combining curtains according to the method of closing. For example, the combination of a roller blind with a classic one is convenient because on a hot, sunny day, a lowered roller blind will protect from scorching rays, and in the evening tightly closed heavy curtains will create an atmosphere of warmth and comfort, hiding from prying eyes.

Roll and Roman blind designs are also convenient in the case when window decoration does not involve moving canvases.

If there is no financial opportunity to “renew” the window decor completely, you can resort to self-restoration of old curtains, after viewing the photo of the curtains of the new design. Finishing with colored or lace stripes, inserts, ruffles will refresh the old canvas, give it a second life at minimal cost.

Quite a solid old curtain fabric, not suitable for a “fresh” repair, can be “fitted” into the updated design, supplementing it with material of the appropriate color and texture. An insignificant but effective addition in the form of a wide border, a contrasting insert can work wonders. The altered curtain does not have to return to its place, it can “move”, for example, from the living room to the kitchen.

There are countless options for combining fabrics according to different principles; this is an endless field for the imagination of designers and homeowners. Using combinations in window design, you can change the style of the house, its spirit, and the process of selecting finishes, materials, accessories is a real great creativity.

Photo of combined curtains

Nothing changes the interior as quickly and drastically as textiles on the windows: a room in a minimalist style can be given sophistication, furnished with heavy furniture in a classic style, give lightness, a small one can visually enlarge, and a large one can limit space. Two-color curtains solve these problems more effectively exactly as many times as the number of colors and shades used for their manufacture.

Combining curtains: simple and original

Clothing for windows, in the form of curtains and tulle, is most often the final chord, a kind of point in the decoration of the home - a logical conclusion to the style decision. Therefore, it is natural that they should be combined with the image of the room, its functional purpose, color scheme. Curtains can be contrasting or neutral, they can play the main part in an orchestra called the interior. So that they do not destroy it, certain rules must be observed.

Combined curtains are a special option for decorating a window space - a way to create an exclusive thing with the help of an unpretentious design. They can consist not only of different colors, but also fabrics and textures. They can be compositionally and structurally different from each other. And most importantly, if desired, they can be created independently, spending minimal funds.

The right combination of colors

The color combination plays a decisive role in the combined curtains in terms of creating a perfect image: stylish and holistic. You can, of course, with the help of trial and error, pick up two or more colors for your own design solution. Or you can use the color wheel, in which the colors are arranged according to the principle of kinship of contrasts. By choosing color schemes according to the color table, you can create an unlimited number of harmonious combinations:

  1. Monochrome - when the colors of fabrics for curtains are in the same sector of the color wheel: blue, turquoise, cornflower blue, blue. This combination will create an image of a peaceful, noble and elegant.
  2. Analogous - tones located in adjacent positions: for example, lilac, purple, red and their shades. An expressive effect is achieved when fabrics with the same color saturation are used.
  3. Complimentary - two opposite colors that reinforce each other and create a visual effect of dynamics - movement. Colors don't have to be flashy, they can be muted, pastel and create a calm mood.

Playing with the color wheel, you can create unpredictable unique, but stylish, design-justified combinations.

Material selection

Combination implies not only the difference in colors, but also the difference in fabrics. When choosing between a material, it is necessary to focus on factors:

  • functionality and size of the room;
  • style decision of the interior;
  • type of drawing;
  • fabric texture;
  • ability to transmit color.

Style dictates requirements. Luxurious apartments suggest a similar window design, using expensive fabrics: satin, brocade, velvet, organza. Which differ in special durability and density. Such materials do not differ in modern patterns and newfangled colors.

The room of young dynamic people can be bright and full of accessories, so the curtains can be plain or with a clear graphic pattern in the form of lines in natural fabrics such as linen.

Rustic country style is not complete without sunny bright colors, small flowers and large checks stuffed on cotton fabric.

Combination of products from the remnants of fabric

Every zealous housewife has stocks of fabrics, accessories, finishing materials. In the manufacture of combined curtains, all this can come in handy: two different cuts in skillful hands will become an excellent curtain.

You can start the experiment by making chintz curtains:

  • white and small flowers in the style of Provence;
  • colored bright stripes sewn vertically for the nursery.

Hand embroidery, in various styles, finishing material, applications will make such curtains truly designer.

Combined curtains can be sewn in any style. The possibility of various combinations only expands the style preferences. Let's take a look at the latest.

High tech

In high-tech style: a minimum of decorative elements, straight lines, no bends, correct geometry in patterns. Fabrics for such models should be chosen modern metallized, anti-reflective. Gradient color transitions in black and white or a combination of metallic colors: silver and gold, copper and chrome will look spectacular.

Modern

Art Nouveau style, with the possibility of creating Roman or French curtains, using eyelets and hinges, drawstrings, tiebacks and all kinds of lambrequins - Eldorado for fans of combined curtains. That's where the scope for creativity and the implementation of the remnants of materials. But special: light, flowing, refined - nylon, veil, organza. There is no place for dense fabrics in Art Nouveau style.

You can combine plain and canvases with images of mythical characters, outlandish plants. Art Nouveau colors are life-affirming, but at the same time not deliberately bright, but sophisticated: pearl white, sparkling gray, swamp green.

Combined models in rooms

Kitchen

Curtains in the kitchen in a combined style should help create comfort in a room full of functional devices and modern appliances. Their task is not to keep out light or noise, but to:

  • inspire the hostess to culinary exploits;
  • contribute to the creation of a calm atmosphere at a family dinner;
  • set up for work in the morning.

The task is not easy, but it is the ability to combine different materials, color shades that creates the prerequisites for its successful solution.

living room

The living room is distinguished by a peculiar splendor and status. Therefore, color combinations for the curtains of this room should be chosen bright, contrasting and classic: coffee-chocolate, golden-turquoise, beige-peach, purple-lilac. The combined curtains of the living room are multi-layered and complex: with embroidered lambrequins, scallops and fringe.

Bedroom

Curtains in the bedroom should create a peaceful environment conducive to sound sleep. Therefore, pastel colors and dense fabrics such as satin, jacquard, velvet or wool are used. Layering in bedroom curtains is justified by the ability to protect against the penetration of light, prying eyes and muffle street sounds.

The corridor

Curtains in the corridor can serve as doors, in which case it is better to choose a heavy decorative fabric. You can make combined double-sided curtains that will look presentable from any side of the room. Curtains made of light materials will visually expand a narrow corridor, combinations with a vertical stripe will stretch a low corridor.

The arched space of the corridor will be decorated with short combined curtains - they will decorate the room and will not interfere with the passage.

Children's

Curtains for a children's room, created in the form of a combination of different fabrics and colors, are a great solution, as they allow you to soothe bright colors with a neutral companion, create interesting compositions from plain fabrics. The priority in the room for children are natural fabrics.

How to sew two-tone curtains yourself

It's nice when the room is decorated with stylish beautiful curtains. But if they are made with your own hands, it is doubly pleasant: the window is decorated, the family is proud, the room is filled with positive energy.

To achieve this effect, you need some free time, the possession of basic sewing skills. So, let's determine the order of work in order to sew two straight combined curtains.

Fabric calculation

The calculation of the fabric should be made according to two parameters:

  • cornice length;
  • ceiling height.

The calculation of the height of the fabric is as follows: the centimeters required for hemming from the bottom and top are added to the ceiling height parameter. If the ceiling height is standard 2.5 m, then the arithmetic is as follows: 2 m 500 cm + 8 cm + 8 cm = 2 m 66 cm.

The calculation of the length is made as follows: the length of the cornice * 1.5 + 2 cm per 2 widths of the hemming of the side sections. If the length of the cornice is 3 meters, then the length of the fabric will be: 3m * 1.5 + 2cm + 2cm = 4m 90 cm.

Since we decided to combine the curtains vertically, we need to add another 2 cm to the length: 4 m 90 cm + 2 cm = 4 m 92 cm

In total, we get, for combined curtains in a vertical way, you will need 2 different pieces of fabric:

  • width: 2.46 m (4.92:2);
  • 2.66 m long.

Fabric selection and pattern cutting

When choosing fabrics in a specialized store or from your own leftovers, you must take into account that they are combined in color, pattern and texture. It will also be important to take into account the quality: the fabrics must be of the same level of quality.

We will perform step-by-step cutting and stitching:

  1. Prepare two different pieces of fabric, iron them with an iron.
  2. Each of them is divided exactly in half and cut.
  3. We take two halves of different fabrics, apply to each other with the right side.
  4. At a distance of 0.7mm-1cm from the edge, we scribble on a sewing machine.
  5. We will process the edge on the overlock.
  6. Smooth out the seam with an iron.

Seam processing and the final step: hang the curtain

We process the side seams as follows:

  • tuck the edge 2 cm, iron it with an iron.
  • twist again 2 cm and iron with an iron.
  • stepping back from the edge of the fold 2 mm, we make an even line on the typewriter.

In a similar way, we hem the bottom edge of the curtain.

Sew curtain tape:

  1. We turn the upper part of the curtain to the width of the tape, iron it with an iron. We put the tape with loops up and stitch it “profitable” with contrasting threads.
  2. We sew the tape on the typewriter on both sides.
  3. We do the same manipulation with the second curtain.

In order to hang the curtain in the loops on the tape, insert plastic hooks at the same distance from each other and hang the curtains on the eaves.

How to wash combined products

Washing any curtains is a responsible event. But with the current level of automatic washing machines, it is not at all a problem. What are the nuances of washing combined curtains you should pay attention to:

  • pre-soaking in plenty of warm water;
  • washing, preferably in a special bag;
  • it is better not to hang the curtains, but to lay them out horizontally.
  • when ironing, pay attention to smoothing the seams.

If you are not sure that you are ready to cope with the task, give priority to dry cleaning.

If you know the rules, it will not be difficult to harmoniously equip your home.

Curtains are an important part of the interior of any room. This original element forms the individual features and visual completeness of the room. A window can be perceived in the context of a small peephole into the surrounding world, which is why designers devote so much time to its design and development of the overall concept.

Properly selected curtains will create a feeling of peace and comfort, as well as help level the existing defects in corners, walls, and visually expand the room. In such a difficult task, the main role is assigned to combined curtains, consisting of several colors and fabrics. In today's article, we will consider in detail the issue of the correct selection of material and the creation of two-color solutions based on it.

Selection of fabric texture

Sewing curtains, consisting of several colors, often involves a textured and fabric combination. For a harmonious combination of fabrics, it is very important that individual products have a similar texture, and even better one material. And there are several reasons for this. First of all, such a combination increases visual appeal. Secondly, fabrics of several textures after the next wash can give a distinct shrinkage, the entire curtain will be skewed.

However, the matter is not limited to texture alone, therefore it is necessary to pay attention to the density of the source material. The most advantageous option for curtains is a combination of fabrics with an average density, which will level the weighting of the window. Density is an important criterion for the functionality of curtains. If the products are assigned an exclusively decorative role, then the choice is not limited by anything, it is enough to achieve color and style matching. After fixing these curtains, no one will move them once again. Otherwise, special attention should be paid to the fabric, which must be dense and provide the desired level of light transmission.

Having stopped the choice on one of the textures, it is necessary to approach the issue of color selection for the future curtains no less scrupulously. Two-color solutions open up endless possibilities of combinatorics. The main difficulty lies in their relevance and compliance with the overall interior of a particular room. In such an important event, it is better to rely on the opinion of professional designers, guided by which you can sew really real window decorations. A few valuable recommendations:

  • A combination of two colors involves using as a basis those shades that are present in the surrounding space. As for the additional ones, they can be anything. This implementation option is the most preferable, since the curtains will visually overlap with the rest of the room.
  • Impressive effects can be achieved by combining contrasting colors. Examples abound: yellow and brown, white and red, white and black. Experts agree that such curtains will perfectly complement a room furnished in a monochrome style and become its visual dominant.
  • The combination of colors is allowed not only in the vertical direction, but also horizontally. If the main task is to increase the level of the ceiling zone, it is better to opt for a vertical arrangement of colors.
  • To harmoniously sew products consisting of two colors, you need to place a darker area at the bottom. If there is a vertical combination, then the darkened matter should be on the extreme part.

Let us dwell in more detail on how to properly sew two-color curtains with your own hands. To do this, it is enough to have basic practical skills in sewing on a typewriter and have a certain theoretical background. The most affordable product is traditional curtains, which are several rectangular blanks. The sequence of actions should be as follows:

  1. Measure the length of the cornice, as well as the height of the ceiling area (from the hook located on the cornice to the floor). Appropriate measurements will allow you to calculate the required amount of tissue.
  2. Experts say that for each product there are on average from 1.5 to 2 lengths of the cornice. Therefore, if you have a cornice 3 meters long, then in order to sew the curtains you will need from 5 to 5.5 meters of fabric.
  3. It is very easy to determine the height of the curtain: it is enough to add the length of the fabric in the upper and lower parts to the height of the ceilings (it is necessary for fixing). If we are talking about a height of 2.5 meters, then you need to prepare 2.7 meters of fabric.
  4. When combining two materials in a vertical plane, another 2 cm are added on each side. In the case of a horizontal arrangement, to the height of the product.
  5. In order to reliably and correctly sew blanks, it is advisable to have on hand: scissors, needles, pins, threads and a special tape.

"Outfit" for windows with their own hands

Before starting work, you need to take a fabric consisting of two identical cuts, and then cut it in half in a vertical direction. A canvas of several colored parts is very easy to sew: fold them face to face, step back from the edge 1 cm and quickly sew on a sewing machine. Using an iron, carefully process the seam.
