GOLDEN GOOSE

One man had three sons. The youngest of them was called Fool. Everyone despised the fool, ridiculed and offended him at every opportunity.

One day the eldest son was going to the forest to get firewood. His mother gave him a delicious butter pie and a bottle of wine for the journey so that he would not suffer from hunger and thirst.

In the forest he met an old, gray-haired man who greeted him and said:

Give me a piece of your pie and leave me a sip of wine! I'm so hungry and so thirsty!

But the smart son answered:

If I give you my cake and my wine, there will be nothing left for me. Get back where you came from!

But as soon as he began to chop down the tree, the ax fell off and crashed into his hand. And he had to go home and bandage it.

And the gray-haired man set it up.

Then the second son went into the forest. And his mother, like the eldest, gave him a rich pie and a bottle of wine. He also met an old, gray-haired man and asked for a piece of pie and a sip of wine. But the second son also said judiciously:

What I give to you will not go to me. Get back where you came from!

Then the Fool said:

Father, let me go into the forest to chop wood!

The father replied:

Your brothers are in trouble there - how can you cope!

But the Fool pestered his father until he said:

Okay, go ahead. Trouble will teach you wisdom.

His mother gave him bread baked in ash and a bottle of sour beer.

When the Fool came to the forest, he also met an old, gray-haired man, greeted him and said:

Give me a piece of your pie and a sip from your bottle! I'm so hungry and so thirsty!

The fool answered: .

I have nothing but bread and sour beer, but if you like that, let's sit down and eat.

They sat down to eat. And when the Fool took out his bread, it turned out to be a wonderful rich pie, and the sour beer turned into good wine. They ate and drank.

You have a kind heart and you willingly share everything you have. For this I want to give you happiness. There's an old tree over there. If you cut it down, you will find something between its roots,” said the little man and disappeared.

The fool walked up to the tree and cut it down. The tree fell and he saw a goose between its roots. The goose's feathers were made of pure gold.

He took the goose and went with it to the tavern, where he was going to spend the night.

And the innkeeper had three daughters. They saw a goose, and they really wanted to find out what kind of wonderful bird it was, and to get at least one of its golden feathers.

The eldest thought: “I’ll find some opportunity to pull out one of his feathers!” And when the Fool went somewhere, she grabbed the goose by the wing. But her fingers immediately stuck to the goose.

Soon the second daughter came, who was also thinking about how to get a golden feather.

But as soon as she touched her sister, she immediately stuck to her. Finally a third appeared with the same intention.

Then the first two shouted:

Don't come, don't come!

But the girl didn’t understand why she shouldn’t come up, and thought: “If they can, why can’t I?”

And she ran up to the sisters. But as soon as she touched them, she stuck to them. So they had to sit near the goose all night.

And in the morning the Fool took the goose under his arm and went his way, not paying any attention to the three girls stuck to the goose. And they had to run after the Fool wherever his feet took him.

They met a pastor in the field. Seeing this procession, he said:

Shame on you, shameless ones! Well, why are you chasing a guy across the entire field? Do you really think that's good?

Having said this, he grabbed the youngest by the hand and wanted to stop her. But as soon as he touched her, he also became stuck, and he had to run away with them.

Soon they came across a church watchman. Seeing that the pastor was rushing on the heels of the three girls, he was very surprised.

“Oh, Mister Pastor,” he shouted, “where are you in such a hurry?”

The watchman ran after the pastor, grabbed him by the sleeve and also stuck to him.

As they galloped like this after each other, the pastor saw two peasants returning from the field. He began to ask them to release him.

But as soon as the peasants touched the pastor, they also became attached. Now the seven of them were running after the Fool and the goose.

And so they came to the city where the king lived. The king had a daughter who was so serious that no one could make her laugh. Therefore, the king issued a decree: whoever can make his daughter laugh will marry her.

The fool found out about this and went with his goose and his retinue straight to the princess.

The princess, seeing the seven. the people jumping after the Fool began to laugh loudly.

Then the Fool demanded that the princess be married to him.

But the king did not like such a son-in-law. He began to come up with all sorts of excuses and demanded that the Fool first find him a man who could drink a whole cellar of wine.

The fool remembered the gray-haired man and thought that he would be able to help him.

He went into the forest and in the very place where he cut down the tree, he saw a man with a very sad face.

The fool asked him what he was sad about. The man replied:

I have a terrible thirst and I can’t quench it. I can’t stand cold water, and although I’ve already drunk a barrel of wine, what does a drop of water on a hot stone mean?

“I can help you,” said the Fool. “Come with me, and I’ll get you drunk.”

He took him to the royal cellar. The man, clinging to the huge barrels, began to drink, and before the day was over, all the wine was drunk.

Then the Fool again demanded that he be given the princess as a wife.

But the king was angry that the worthless boy, whom everyone called the Fool, wanted to marry his daughter. He set one more condition: now the Fool had to find a person who could eat a whole mountain of bread.

The fool, without thinking twice, immediately went into the forest. Sad sat in the same place

a man whose stomach was tightly tied with a belt. The man said sadly: “I ate a full oven of pies, but how can this at least satisfy my hunger?” My stomach is empty, and all I can do is tighten my stomach with a belt so as not to die of hunger.

The fool was delighted and said:

Get up and come with me. I will feed you your fill.

He brought him to the king. The king ordered flour to be brought from all over the kingdom and baked into a huge mountain.

The man approached this mountain and began to eat it. And the mountain disappeared one day.

Here the Fool for the third time demanded the princess as his wife.

But the king came up with another trick: he ordered Fool to build a ship that would sail on water and land.

If you sail on such a ship, you will immediately get my daughter as a wife,” he said.

The fool went straight into the forest.

There sat an old, gray-haired man whom he had once treated to a pie.

The little man said:

I drank and ate for you, I will give you a ship. I will do all this because you were kind to me.

And he gave him a ship that went on water and on land.

When the king saw this ship, he could no longer refuse and married his daughter to Fool.

We celebrated the wedding. And when the king died, the Fool received the entire kingdom and lived for many years in complete pleasure with his wife.
