Horizontal blinds made of wood. Wooden fence-blinds with their own hands. Advice from specialists on manufacturing and operation

Window openings of residential premises are rarely left without being equipped with devices that regulate the degree of illumination of the room and accessibility to the view from the outside. One of these is an accessory that is stylish, functional and therefore in demand. But products of the simplest execution, attracting by cheapness, as a rule, are not durable. And expensive devices are not available to everyone or they scare away the consumer with the risk of purchasing an accessory that does not match the price of quality.

Samples of blinds in various colors

Since the basic design of a horizontal fixture is not complicated, there is a way out of the situation. Consider how to make wooden blinds - an accessory from the most environmentally friendly natural material.

A device with a horizontal arrangement of lamellas can be divided into 3 groups of components:

  • upper - upper cornice with a swivel mechanism (axle, flywheel);
  • medium - a set of lamellas;
  • lower - lower cornice.

These groups are interconnected by cords for raising and lowering the blinds and synchronous rotation of the slats around their longitudinal axes.

One of the advantages of natural wood is the environmental friendliness of all its types, while most of them are affordable. In addition, modern finishing technologies make it possible to imitate products from common types of wood for accessories from valuable species.

Therefore, do-it-yourself wooden blinds are a widespread option for arranging window openings.

Blinds with horizontal and vertical slats

However, there is no fixture template because devices can differ in the following characteristics:

  • design - horizontal, vertical (as a variety - "Roman");
  • installation location - wall above the opening, upper slope, window block;
  • dimensions - are determined by the size of the opening and the installation location;
  • material for the manufacture of lamellas - wood, bamboo.

Blinds placement options: on the wall above the opening, on the upper slope, on the window block

Horizontal lamellas visually expand the room, and vertically arranged slats “raise” the ceiling.”

The method of attaching the device to the base depends on the installation location of the blinds. Installation on a concrete structure requires drilling holes, and the product can also be mounted on a metal-plastic window block using glue.

Horizontal bamboo blinds

The dimensions of the accessory also depend on the installation location of the device - when installing the blinds on the wall above the opening, they will be larger than when mounted on the upper slope or window block.

Wooden blinds can also include products with bamboo lamellas, which, with less weight, have all the advantages of wood.

Do-it-yourself wooden blinds

The work is preceded by the design part. Regardless of whether the lamellas are located vertically or horizontally, it is necessary to decide on which side (left or right) the cords for controlling the device will be located - lifting and lowering and adjusting the angle of inclination of the lamellas. It depends on the location of the window opening on the wall, the arrangement of furniture, the individual preferences of the owner (right-handed, left-handed), etc.

Device with horizontal slats

With self-manufacturing of blinds, most often they prefer just such a design, as the simplest in execution.

First of all, they determine the installation location of the device so that the size of the manufactured components matches the nuances of the location.

If the accessory will be mounted on a metal-plastic window block, it is necessary to choose the method of fastening to the binding.

Of no small importance is the choice of the finish of the blinds - depending on the technology, the decoration can be performed both before the installation of the device and after installation.

Layout and layout of components

When making an accessory for wall mounting, the vertical dimension of the blinds must be 10 cm greater than the height of the window opening, and the width of the device must be 20 cm greater than its horizontal dimension.

Important! The maximum length of the slats is limited to 2.0 m, since a larger size will be accompanied by deflection of the slats, problems in the functioning of the lifting and turning mechanisms, and the width is from 4 to 12 cm - so that the details are visually commensurate with the dimensions of the window.

With the blinds open, adjacent slats should overlap each other by 8-10 mm, therefore, when calculating the number of rails of the desired length, the vertical size of the future fixture must be divided by the width of one plate, reduced by these 8-10 mm.

Horizontal wooden blinds in open and closed position

Preparation of components

For the manufacture of lamellas, ready-made wooden planks of the desired length and width are purchased, or they are ordered from a pre-selected type of wood. In this capacity, linden has proven itself well - the material is not only possible for decoration, but also light.

Important! There are many options for decorating the planks, but one preliminary operation must be performed without fail - after the end of the mechanical and abrasive treatment of the planks and cornices, a protective layer of nitro-lacquer must be applied to them, regardless of the type of wood.

Samples of manufactured wooden planks for the manufacture of blinds

It is difficult to make planks and cornices only according to the description, so it is better to take a closer look at the blinds model in advance, which you can use as a sample.

Industrial-made accessories, simple at first glance, have components in their design, which are very difficult to manufacture in domestic conditions. For example, a system of swivel cords are elements made by weaving a number of cells with a fixed pitch of transverse segments. With manual weaving of this system, it will not be possible to accurately maintain the step, and the slats in the blinds will not be parallel to each other. Therefore, it is better to use a different execution technology - from a braid, which will be attached to the ends of the slats located with a given step.

Using braid as a swivel cord

To assemble the blinds, it is necessary to pre-drill the lamellas, the upper and lower slats.

A longitudinal axis is drawn on the lower cornice and, having retreated 10-15 cm from both ends, one hole is made on each side - in such a way that a cord can be threaded through them. On the front side of the eaves, the holes are countersinked - they are slightly expanded 0.5 cm deep in order to subsequently drown the cord knot.

On the upper cornice, holes are made with the same offset from the edges, but in a perpendicular direction - from the front side to the back, and the diameter should ensure the free passage of the cord, taking into account the break at the corners.

On lamellas from dots applied in the same way, perpendiculars 1-3 cm long are laid on both sides of the axis (depending on the width of the slats). At the ends of the obtained segments (2-6 cm), holes are drilled with a diameter of 1 mm larger than the diameter of the cord.

Then the holes are connected to each other with the help of needle files and slots are obtained, along which the cord should move freely.

Making slots in the slats for the lifting-lowering cord

There is no need to tint the cut surface, but it is necessary to cover it with a colorless hydrophobic composition (nitrolac, wax and paraffin-containing mixtures).

Watching this video will give clarity to the description of the technology for manufacturing lamellas:

Assembly and installation

The assembly of the device starts from the bottom bar. Two pieces of cord are cut off with a length equal to the height of the window opening plus another 0.5 m. A knot is tied at one end of each segment, after which the cords are threaded with their free ends into the holes until they are blocked by knots in countersunk holes. Stop knots will also be knitted on them with a step equal to the width of the lamellas minus 1 cm, on top of each of which lamellas will be strung alternately.

Two pieces of braid 2-5 cm wide and a length equal to twice the height of the window opening plus another 20-25 cm are cut off. One end of each piece is attached from below to the eaves with a stapler opposite the hole with a threaded cord. Then, risks are applied to the braid with a simple pencil in increments also equal to the width of the lamellas minus 1 cm.

Conditional layout of controls on horizontal blinds

After the tape is fixed to all the slats on the front side of the blinds, the tape is threaded into the holes of the upper cornice and continues to be attached to the lamellas to the lower cornice.

After the fixation is completed, a decorative lace is sewn to the braid on the back of the blinds near the first bar from the top, the second end of which is brought out to the front side. By pulling this element, you can rotate the slats to the desired angle.

Decorative cord for controlling the angle of rotation of the slats

Mounting blinds on the wall is not particularly difficult. Brackets are attached to the upper cornice with self-tapping screws, along which markings are made on the base using a bubble level and holes for plastic hollows are drilled, after which the device is mounted on the project site.

Blinds with vertical slats

An accessory with such an orientation of the slats is more difficult for independent execution, since it does not use the gravity of the slats. It is difficult to manufacture and assemble at home a rotary mechanism of the required design, while also providing a decent level of aesthetics.

Therefore, if you want to install an original accessory in an apartment, they usually do it differently - they buy inexpensive blinds and replace the lamellas with them, installing high-class artistic performance slats.

Variants of execution of vertical blinds

Important! When choosing an accessory to replace the planks, it is necessary to purchase models with a margin of safety, since the installation of wooden planks instead of synthetic ones will increase the load on the structure.

Conclusion

Do-it-yourself wooden blinds are a feasible intention if you have basic carpentry and assembly skills. If this operation is performed for the first time, it is advisable to look in advance at the store for the model of the accessory, the design of which is most suitable for assembly in your conditions. Close-up pictures of the main nodes will greatly simplify the work, acting as a proven visual aid.

The main essence of the article

  1. Blinds are a spectacular and functional accessory, so the desire to make a device with original characteristics or, conversely, assemble an inexpensive device with your own hands is quite natural. In this case, you need not to make a mistake and choose a design that is real for independent execution.
  2. Of the existing designs of blinds, it is easiest to make roll-type products with your own hands, but accessories with a horizontal arrangement of slats are more functional, and their self-assembly is not much more difficult.
  3. Natural wood slats are a good choice for homemade blinds - even with the simplest design of the slats, the accessory looks solid. No less important than decorative accessories, the element is simple at first glance, the mechanisms for controlling the device. The accuracy of marking during their installation is a necessary condition for the correct operation of the entire device.
  4. It is impractical to make blinds of complex designs without professional skills - with a high degree of probability, the result will be a short-lived accessory with low aesthetics.

Blinds have long been part of our everyday life, they perform not only their primary function - they do not let light into the room, but they are also an independent decorative element of the interior. We will look at step-by-step instructions on how to make blinds with your own hands from various materials. You will get an excellent analogue of store blinds for ridiculous money.

Blinds made of paper materials (wallpaper and paper)

From plain paper or paper wallpaper, you can make blinds for windows, they are usually made according to the size of window glass, each section has its own curtain. They are attached directly to the frame, so the window sill remains open, and the blinds do not interfere with the opening of windows.

Master class on creating blinds from wallpaper

Wallpaper is great for creating blinds, it's thick enough to block out light and holds its shape well when folded. There are many colors available in hardware stores, which allows you to choose the material that best suits your interior.

You will need:

  • A roll of wallpaper, best suited, they are dense and light;
  • Rope, it should not be too thick, an ordinary clothesline will do;
  • Double sided tape;
  • Ruler and pencil;
  • Scissors;
  • Hole punch or awl;
  • Retainer.
Work progress step by step:
  1. Measure your glass. Mark the width of the window on the wallpaper, and add another 50 cm to the length, this is a margin for folds, the longer the length of the segment, the more often the accordion will be;
  2. The cut blank under the blinds is lined, noting where the folds will pass. The step can be from 3 to 5 cm, at your discretion;
  3. We bend the wallpaper into an accordion, do it strictly along the lines so that all the strips are even;
  4. Mark the middle of the accordion and make a hole there with a hole punch or awl;
  5. Pass the rope through all the holes, secure the upper end with tape. Attach the blank to the window and mark how long the rope needs to be. Leave a margin of about 30 cm and cut off the excess part of the rope;
  6. We bend the lower edge of the accordion in half and glue it, we get a beautiful decorative element that resembles a peacock's tail;
  7. We fasten the latch at the end of the rope;
  8. We fix the blinds in the upper part of the window with double-sided tape.
You can see all the details in the video with the master class.

Paper blinds

Paper can also be used as a material for creating blinds. The design will be similar to the previous version. The paper is cut to a width equal to the width of the window pane. The length is taken with a margin of approximately 50 cm.

The paper is lined and folded into an accordion, the folds should be even and at an equal distance from each other. Step from 3 to 5 cm, if you want, you can make it more or less, as you like.

The accordion is folded and two holes are made with a hole punch or an awl, retreating 10-15 cm from the edge. The upper and lower edges of the accordion must be reinforced with cardboard along the entire length. The rope is threaded through the upper part of the accordion, the latch is fixed at the bottom and the rope is passed through another hole. From above, the ends of the ropes are fixed with adhesive tape. More details are shown in the drawing.

Fabric blinds

Fabric blinds do not move in a horizontal direction like curtains, they rise and fall in a vertical plane. There are many ways to make fabric blinds, we will look at the simplest of them.

How to make fabric blinds without a sewing machine

If you want to make fabric blinds but don't have a sewing machine and don't know how to or don't like to sew, then that shouldn't stop you. In this step-by-step instruction, you will practically not have to sew.

You will need:

  • A piece of dense fabric, the dimensions should match the dimensions of the window opening, plus 4 cm from each edge to the folds;
  • Two tapes 4-5 cm wide, the length should be twice the height of the opening;
  • Glue gossamer 2 cm wide, length equal to the perimeter of the window opening;
  • Wooden plank equal in length to the width of the opening, the thickness should be minimal, width up to 2 cm;
  • Curtain tape as long as the width of the opening.
Getting Started

We take our fabric, tuck each edge twice by two centimeters. Glue gossamer can be purchased at any sewing accessories store, it glues the fabric under the influence of high temperature, that is, a simple iron. We put a cobweb under our tucked edge and iron it.

First, fold the top and bottom, and then the side edges of the fabric. The bottom edge is tucked together with the wooden plank so that it is inside the folds of the fabric, invisible from the outside.

Ribbons need to be selected, matching in color to our fabric, they will have not only a functional value, but also a decorative one. Therefore, it is worth choosing a beautiful combination that will suit your interior.

The ribbons are folded in half and one edge is thrown to the front side of the curtain, and the second to the wrong side. Do this through the upper edge of the blinds, retreating 20 cm from each side edge. Secures the ribbons on top with thread, you only need to do a couple of stitches.

A curtain tape with hooks is sewn to the upper edge, for which the blinds are suspended from the curtain. As you can see, making such blinds is very simple, but the simplicity of the design has one drawback - you need to raise such blinds manually. The lower edge with a wooden rail is rolled into a tube to the desired height and tied with ribbons.

DIY wooden blinds

Wood is an environmentally friendly material that also looks very stylish. We will look at step-by-step instructions on how to make blinds from wooden planks, with an adjustable level of light transmission into the room.

You will need:

  • Wooden planks 4 mm thick, 4 cm wide, take the length a couple of centimeters less than the width of the window. The quantity is calculated in such a way as to close the entire length of the window, taking into account that the strips will overlap one another by 5 mm;
  • Three pieces of thin rope or thread: two pieces are 40 cm longer than the length of the window, and the third is two times longer than this length;
  • Three screws with threaded rings.
Working process:

The general scheme of the blinds is shown in the drawing.

Now you know how to make blinds with your own hands. These simple methods will allow you to create unique blinds that will exist in a single copy. The cost of homemade blinds will be several times lower than purchased ones. You will save money and get beautiful blinds that will meet all your requirements.

Despite the fairly large selection of different types of blinds on the market today, many home craftsmen are interested in the question - is it possible to make wooden blinds with your own hands. This is due to the fact that in the store it is not always possible to choose the right option in terms of interior design. On the other hand, the cost of such a fashionable window accessory made of natural wood can be quite high. Especially if you are going to order the manufacture of wooden blinds in a specialized workshop on an individual project.

Types and features of wooden structures

In recent years, inexpensive designs made of plastic and fabric have become widespread. However, wooden blinds continue to be popular as an exclusive design attribute. With their help, you can give the interior respectability and solidity. With this accessory, the decoration of any room will seem much more expensive, so interior designers often use them in their work.

Thanks to a huge selection of colors and textures, wooden blinds can be successfully entered into the design of any room - to create a quiet, cozy atmosphere in a living room or to decorate an office or administrative room in a simple business style. Today there are three main types of wooden curtains:

  1. Vertical. The lamellas (flat planks) in them are arranged vertically. With the help of an adjustable cord, they can rotate around their axis by 180 degrees, adjusting the amount of light entering the room.
  2. Horizontal. The lamellas in them are arranged parallel to each other in the horizontal direction. The level of illumination of the room is regulated by turning the rails by 90 degrees.
  3. "Roman curtain". A special modification of the curtains, consisting of narrow rails located in the horizontal direction. When opened, Roman blinds fold up and roll up.

Construction of wooden curtains

Structurally, all these types of wooden curtains consist of three main elements:

  • Lamellas - flat planks of wood, the angle of inclination of which regulates the flow of natural light into the room.
  • The rotary mechanism is a system of devices for controlling the lamellas.
  • Cornice - the base on which all structural elements are attached.

For lamellas of vertical and horizontal blinds, it is recommended to use hardwood: oak, beech, pine, cedar. It is more resistant to moisture, solar radiation and seasonal temperature changes.

In addition, such species have a beautiful wood texture. In "Roman blinds", as a rule, bamboo strips sawn along are used. Bamboo, being split into thin strips, retains sufficient strength and elasticity. Therefore, curtains made of it are also distinguished by durability in operation.

Preparatory work

Types of fastening wooden blinds

Before you start making blinds, you should draw up a drawing of the future design. To do this, you need to remove the dimensions of the windows: width and height. Eaves of vertical types of curtains are attached mainly to the wall or ceiling above the window. Their width and length should be 5 - 10 cm larger than the size of the window block. Horizontal blinds are usually installed in the window opening. At the same time, the width of the lamellas should be several centimeters less than the width of the window block itself and somewhat wider than the glazing.

To work, you will need the following tools:

  • Drill with a set of drills.
  • Scissors.
  • Accessories - clips, brackets and hooks.
  • Universal glue.

After you have taken measurements and made drawings with your own hands, you can proceed to the actual manufacture of blinds.

Production and assembly of horizontal blinds

Unfortunately, it will not work to make all the elements at home. Therefore, they will have to be purchased at a building supermarket. This is a cornice with a swivel mechanism, as well as various small accessories - hooks, clips, clamps. To see how this process takes place in production, see this video:

Consider the main stages in the manufacture of horizontal blinds with wooden slats. After we proceed to the manufacture of lamellas - thin wooden slats. Their width should be the same and range from 5 to 10 cm. After making the rails of the desired length and width, we process them with sandpaper, cover them with stain and varnish. We drill a hole exactly in the middle of each plank - hooks are inserted into them for attaching the curtains to the base. In this case, the hooks should be located closer to the front or rear edge of the rail, so that when the cord is pulled, the rail rotates around its axis. Then the same holes are drilled along the edges of the lamella. Adjustment cords will be passed through them, so they should be a few millimeters wider than the diameter of the cord. For the basic principles of manufacturing wooden lamellas, see this video:

Take the prepared cord and cut it into three parts: one, the central one, should be twice as long as the height of the window, and the two extreme cords should be 20-25 cm longer than the height of the entire structure. We attach the two extreme pieces of the cord to the eaves and string the lamellas on them, making knots between them so that the lamellas are evenly located on the cord.

The distance between the nodes should not exceed ½ of the width of the lamella, otherwise gaps will be visible between the slats in the closed position.

In the hole of the lowest bar we attach a latch in which the ends of the cord are attached.

We fold the longest cord in half and pass it through the central holes, attaching it to the hooks installed there. The central cord is threaded through a ring fixed in the center of the eaves. This cord performs a regulatory function - if you pull on it, the lamellas will turn around their axis, opening or blocking access to sunlight. In order for the slats to return to their original position, at the bottom of the blinds, a certain counterweight can be fixed on the central cord. When loosening the adjusting cord, the slats in this case will automatically close. To hold them open, the free end of the center cord can be threaded through a clip that will hold the slats open.

"Roman blinds" and vertical designs

Reiki in "Roman blinds" are also located in a horizontal position. The difference is only in the way they are fixed - each narrow plank is rigidly attached to the cords by means of knots. Thus, if you pull on the central cord, the slats will not turn around their axis, but go up, rolling up into a roll. Otherwise, the installation and installation scheme of the horizontal version and the “Roman blind” are similar.

It is also quite simple to make a vertical version of wooden blinds at home. True, in this case, factory elements will play a much greater role - a cornice with a swivel mechanism. With your own hands, in this case, you can only make vertical strips, giving them the required size and appearance. After the lamellas are made, they are connected to the cornice swivel mechanism, with the help of which they are controlled. It remains only to firmly strengthen the entire structure above the window with self-tapping screws or dowel-nails.

As you can see, creating wooden blinds with your own hands is not so difficult, especially if you have the opportunity to purchase the necessary factory structural elements. The main thing here is to have the necessary diligence, artistic taste and you can decorate your home with exclusive wooden blinds created by yourself.

In modern interiors, traditional curtains are increasingly being replaced by blinds. This alternative allows you to achieve originality and practicality in the design of the room. With their main tasks: blocking the access of sunlight to the room and hiding the room from prying eyes - wooden blinds do an excellent job.

Blinds made of wood are not only safe for health, but also original and beautiful.

The design of the blinds includes thin strips fixed on rails and turning around its axis by half a turn. Planks can be arranged both horizontally and vertically, but the first option is still more common. can be made from various materials. Quite often, a tree is used for this. It is an environmentally friendly material that has a long service life compared to plastic or fabric, which can also be used for this purpose. In addition, such products harmoniously fit into any interior.

The design of window curtains such as blinds can be varied. They can be installed vertically or horizontally, made of fabric, plastic plates or wood. The simplest designs perform only their functional purpose, and interestingly designed blinds can be one of the main interior details.

For interior design in a naturalistic style, there is nothing better than wooden blinds. If the interior is dominated by wooden elements, then natural wood blinds will be simply irreplaceable in such an environment.

The advantages of wooden blinds include environmental friendliness and a long service life.

Blinds made of natural wood have a number of advantages over other models:

  • environmental safety of the material for residents;
  • long service life, which is ensured by the special coating of the panels, which protects them from exposure to ultraviolet radiation and other external factors;
  • ease of care.

Wooden blinds can be easily cleaned with a vacuum cleaner. This makes them easy to maintain. Do not wipe blinds with a damp cloth. It is necessary to take measures for all possible contact of products with moisture. This can lead to a change in their color and even deformation.

How to make wooden blinds?

For the manufacture of blinds, you can use different types of wood.

The most successful options are bamboo and linden. First of all, you need to calculate the required number of curtain plates. The optimal width of each plate is 12 cm. However, it must be taken into account that they overlap each other, each next covers the previous one by about 1 cm. Therefore, for calculation, a width of 11 cm should be taken. The height of the window must be divided by 11 cm. The length of the plates by 4 -5 cm must be less than the width of the window.

Next, at the ends of the plates, you need to fix nozzles in the form of small planks. All upper nozzles must be drilled and small hooks inserted into the holes obtained. With their help, it will be possible to fix the blinds on the upper base. In the lower and upper parts of the plates, you need to make a small hole with a diameter of 2 mm, 12 mm from the lining. The hole should be located exactly in the middle of the plate. In the future, a tape or cord will be inserted into this hole to move the blinds. The tape must be glued to the plate in each hole and additionally fixed with chips.

After that, the blinds are installed in their place. Hooks pre-attached to the plates cling to the guides. Thanks to this, it will be possible to move the panels from side to side. 2 hooks are attached to the ceiling parallel to the frame. Through them it is necessary to pass a cord threaded through the slats. The cord loops down, its ends are tied. This loop will later allow you to adjust the position of the plates.

Details for do-it-yourself blinds are best ordered in a special workshop. Their production will take some time, so it is better to order in advance.

In this article we will talk about how to make wooden blinds with your own hands. Given that the price of these fashionable accessories today is high, recommendations for making them yourself will be of interest to many. But, before proceeding with the manufacture, we will consider what the blinds are, assembled from wood, what varieties of them are on the market and what are the features of the use of these devices.

The main types of wooden blinds and their device

Despite the fact that fabric, plastic and metal blinds are ubiquitous, today there are more and more people who are interested in purchasing wooden curtains. And this is not surprising, since wood products look more solid, more exclusive and more expensive than plastic and fabric counterparts.

However, if you want a modern and minimalistic window treatment, you can opt for white wooden blinds.

On the market, wooden window and door blinds are represented by several varieties, among which we note the following:

  • modifications with vertically arranged slats, rotating around its axis by 180 degrees;
  • modifications with horizontally arranged slats, rotating around its axis by 90 degrees;
  • Roman blinds - modifications with very narrow slats that are rolled up.

Despite the structural differences, all wooden curtains consist of such elements as lamellas, a mechanism that sets the lamellas in motion, and a base - a cornice on which this mechanism is fixed. Lamellas can differ in length and width in accordance with the design and standard sizes of the curtain.

As production materials for the manufacture of lamellas, hardwood is used, which demonstrates increased resistance to UV rays and seasonal temperature fluctuations. In addition to ordinary wood, bamboo planks are often used as production materials.

For the manufacture of Roman blinds, mainly longitudinally split bamboo is used. Such material, despite the small thickness of the lamellae, is resilient and durable.

The price of curtains made using bamboo is higher than the cost of analogues made from ordinary wood. However, such a difference in price is fully justified by the performance characteristics.

The mechanism that sets the lamellas in motion is selected depending on the design of the curtains. For example, modifications with vertically fixed slats are set in motion by a combination of a cane and a cord.

In order to set the horizontal slats in motion, a cane with a cord is used, just a cord or a cardan (relevant for large-sized curtains). Roman blinds can only be operated using a cord.

Some modern modifications of wooden blinds are equipped with an electric drive, which completely replaces the cane cords and muscular strength.

Blinds installation

The instruction for installing wooden curtains depends on two points, first of all, on the design features of the accessory and on the features of the place where the installation is performed.

Consider what is the installation instruction for today's popular bamboo Roman blinds:

  • We turn the curtain into a roll. To make it more convenient to work, we attach the cord to the roll with a piece of adhesive tape.
  • We attach a cornice with a curtain to the wall above the window or doorway. We mark the points where the metal brackets that are included with the accessory will be attached.
  • According to the marks made, we drill holes for the dowels. We immediately check the level so that the marks are correctly set relative to the horizon.
  • Attach metal brackets.
  • There are soldered bolts on the brackets, on which nuts are screwed. Temporarily remove these nuts.
  • We bait the cornice with special slots on bolts soldered onto metal fasteners. Now you can adjust the position of the cornice by moving it to the left or right.
  • After the position of the cornice has been adjusted, we tighten the nuts that fix the blinds on the metal fasteners.

The instruction for installing Roman blinds in a window opening is different in that the metal brackets are not installed on the wall, but in the upper part of the opening.

In order to carry out installation in a window opening, you need to make sure that the curtain fabric in width and length will repeat the shape and size of the window. In addition, you need to make sure that the opening is strong enough.

Important: If the opening is crumbling, the installation of Roman blinds is not recommended, since frequent closing / opening with a cord and due to the weight of the roll, the structure may simply fall.

The installation instructions for modifications with wide slats involve the installation of a bracket on which the slats and the mechanism for their movement are fixed. Installation must be carried out in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, otherwise the wooden blinds will need to be re-installed or repaired.

Blind assembly for closet door

Consider the features of the assembly of barrier gratings with wooden lamellas. Such designs can be used as wooden blinds or to decorate door or window openings. From such structures, if desired, you can build a screen in the dressing room or in the bathroom.

The manufacturing instructions are as follows:

  • Of the side, top and bottom elements from which the frame will be assembled. The dimensions of the frame are selected individually based on the size of the opening that will need to be closed.
  • At the ends of the upper and lower parts of the frame, we drill holes for dowels.
  • We drill similar holes at the ends of the side elements of the frame, as shown in the photo.

Important: The diameter of the holes must completely match the diameter of the dowels so that these chopiks go there with difficulty.

  • We cut lamellas from a flat bar, the length of which should be 1 cm longer than the length of the upper and lower elements in the frame. The number of slats is calculated so that there is a gap of at least 2 cm between adjacent slats. Also, when calculating, it is necessary to take into account the angle of inclination of the slats.
  • On the side elements, we mark the location of pre-made lamellas in accordance with the required angle of inclination.

A simple tool, which is shown in the photo and which you can make yourself if you wish, will help to mark the angle of inclination of the slats on the side parts of the frame.

  • On a milling machine, we drill holes in the form of planks according to pre-made marks.
    If there is no milling machine, we use a conventional electric drill to make oval holes, in which we attach a drill of a suitable diameter. With this drill, we immediately make several holes in a row to a depth of 7 mm. Irregularities and excess wood are straightened with a chisel.

  • Pour a small amount of wood glue into the prepared holes on one side of the frame.
  • We insert dowels into round holes, and place lamellas into oval holes.
  • On the other sidewall, we also fill the holes with glue and insert the dowels.
  • We assemble the structure together so that we get a solid wooden frame, in the center of which there are inclined planks.

Operational care

Wooden facades of blinds become covered with dust during operation. These stains can be removed with a slightly damp, lint-free cloth.

Excessive moistening of the surface of the lamellas is not recommended, as this can cause the wood to darken and cracks. In order to reduce the frequency of maintenance of wooden blinds, we recommend applying it with an antistatic effect.

Wax-based polishes do not moisturize the wood, but rather protect it from the negative effects of environmental factors. Moreover, the anti-static effect will prevent dust from settling on the surface of the curtains, which will make them less demanding to care for.
