The icon of St. Spyridon of Trimyphus helps in what. Where are the relics of Spyridon of Trimifuntsky? The phenomenon of the incorruptible relics of Spyridon of Trimifuntsky

Saint Spyridon of Trimifuntsky is revered throughout Russia, and especially the image is revered in Moscow and Novgorod. Every year on December 25, the Orthodox celebrate the day of the icon of the miracle worker. The date coincides with the winter solstice, therefore, since ancient times on our land, it was called "Spiridon's turn".

The miraculous icon of Spiridon of Trimifuntsky is in many temples. Prayers assure that the saint, even after death, continues to help everyone who comes to him with an open heart.

The meaning of the image

Spiridon Trimifuntsky (Salaminsky) was born in Cyprus in 270. His parents were peasants, and the saint remained faithful to this cause all his life. Even when he became a bishop, he did not become proud, but continued to walk in inexpensive clothes, to cultivate the land, and to feed sheep. Therefore, on the iconographic image, the miracle worker is depicted in a cap made of sheep's wool.

For good deeds and a good heart, the Saint received grace from God, he possessed great strength, worked miracles. While in the rank of bishop, he participated in the First Ecumenical Council of Nicea, at which the basic tenets of Orthodoxy were determined. Thanks to the miracles that Spyridon showed to the priests, the heresy of Arius, who doubted that Jesus was holy before baptism, was rejected. Spiridon prayerfully took a brick in his hands, and immediately a flame burst out of it, water flowed down, and a handful of clay remained in his palm. So God, with the hands of a saint, laid the brick into its component parts. This deed is often shown in icons - the saint is holding a burning brick.

During his life, Spiridon Trimifuntsky performed many miracles - he could change the weather, heal from terrible diseases, even resurrect people. Contemporaries said that the miracle worker communicated directly with the Lord, and God spoke through his mouth. Even after death, the power of the saint did not disappear. Since 1453, his relics have been kept in a temple on the island of Corfu. During World War II, when bombing the island, people noted that many bombs simply did not reach the ground. And the inhabitants of Corfu fled to the church of St. Spyridon. Despite the fact that the buildings around the temple were completely destroyed, he himself was not damaged.

Imperishable images

After his death, the saint was buried in the temple of the city of Trimifunt, on the ground where he was a bishop. In the 7th century, the relics of the saint were transferred to Constantinople, and to the middle. In the 15th century, they ended up on the island of Corfu (Ionian Sea). Until 1984, Spyridon's right hand belonged to Rome, but after that it was returned to the Greek Orthodox Church.

Many miracles are also associated with the relics of the miracle worker. They have not smoldered for 1700 years, weigh as much as the body of an adult, and even retain heat. At the same time, Spiridon is known among the Orthodox as a "walking" saint, because, unlike the relics, his clothes wear out. Every year, the clergy are forced to change velvet shoes, as their soles are worn out. At the same time, the cancer, in which the relics of the saint are stored, does not fade from sunlight, and is not damaged by dampness.

The miraculous icons of Spiridon also retain their original appearance for a long time. This feature is celebrated by priests around the world. Against the background of other faces, which darken over time, the images of St. Spyridon remain the same bright and light.

What to pray for

Spiridon Trimifuntsky is known for a large number of miracles, the Orthodox believe that his images are endowed with the same miraculous power. In front of the icons, parishioners pray for health and healing, the saint bestows joy, tranquility of the soul.

At the same time, during his life, the miracle worker not only helped the suffering, but also punished the sinners. A little bit from the life of Spiridon Trimifuntsky

The saint was born around the 3rd century, almost eighteen centuries ago. His birthplace is the island of Cyprus. Spiridon's family was small, but very wealthy. After all, at that time the shepherds had a good income. From childhood, the miracle worker lived according to the biblical commandments, observing all the rules.

The hardworking and meek Spiridon always helped the elderly, gave shelter to the homeless, fed those who were starving, and constantly gave money to the poor. The saint did not refuse anyone, and he also never asked for debts to be returned to him. That is why to this day many believers turn to him for financial support and help. There is one legend that in his youth Spiridon fell in love with a modest, but very wise girl, without whom I could not live even a minute apart.

They got married, a baby appeared in the family. Life was beautiful, serene and long. In honor of the fact that the Saint found his happiness, which came to him so quickly, he forgave everyone not only the debts, but also distributed to all the poor what he had acquired over the years of his youth. And these are far from all the miracles that Spiridon performed. By the way, even during his lifetime, the heavens bestowed on Spiridon Trimifuntsky real divine power.

He could heal those who, it would seem, could no longer be put on their feet, fought with demons that lurked in people, healed deep wounds in the souls of believers, ruled nature and the elements, raised the dead. Believers in droves went to Saint Spyridon to heal and ask for financial help. The miracle worker never turned away from people asking him.

For this, it is enough just to mentally turn to the miracle worker. Believe in what you are doing, and never be afraid to talk to the Saint about your problem.

We believe that He is Consubstantial and Equal with the Father, and we believe this without any crafty inventions, for it is impossible to comprehend this mystery with the human mind. " Then the philosopher said to his friends: “Listen! While the contest with me was carried on by means of proofs, I put others against some proofs and, with my art of arguing, reflected everything that was presented to me. But when, instead of proof from reason, some special force began to emanate from the lips of this old man, the proofs became powerless against it, since a person cannot resist God. If any of you can think in the same way as I do, then let him believe in Christ and with me follow this old man, through whose mouth God Himself spoke. "

Surprisingly, the Greek soon accepted Orthodox Baptism and became a zealous Christian.

Spiridon lovingly took care of people: according to his fiery, demons were expelled, the hungry were fed, the homeless found shelter.

One day he was visited by a sobbing mother holding a dead baby in her arms. She begged for intercession and prayers before the Almighty. The saint took the child's little body in his arms, prayed fervently and the child came to life. The parent, shocked by the miracle, fell dead to the ground. But Spiridon's prayer revived her too.

Once Spiridon hurried to a friend, slandered and sentenced to death, in order to save him. On the way, he had to stop, because an overflowing stream interfered. After praying, the saint ordered the stream of water to rise, and then safely crossed over to the other side. The judge became aware of the miracle that had happened, he received the holy guest with honors and unquestioningly removed the shackles from his comrade.

It happened that the elder entered the empty church, ordered the servants to light the lamps and candles, and began to perform the divine service. Exclaiming: "Peace to all!" And after each of the prayer requests, the choir exclaimed: "Lord, have mercy!" The people who were nearby were attracted by the sound of singing, and they approached the temple. Their hearts were gradually filled with wonderful polyphony. But upon entering the room, they did not see the many-sided choir, which was quite surprised. Apart from the bishop and a few ministers, there was not a soul here.

Spiridon Trimifuntsky was a very hospitable person. On one of the Lenten days, a tired traveler knocked on his door. The owner let him into the house and instructed his daughter to wash the traveler's feet and feed him enough. The daughter roasted pork meat, there were no other supplies in the form of flour and bread in the family due to the fact that the saint ate food only on a certain day, while on others he drank only water. Spiridon apologized for the meager food during the Forty Day and ate the food with the stranger.

Another story tells about the annual custom of Spyridon. Having gathered the harvest, the saint gave one part of it to the poor, and the second was intended for those in need in debt. Everyone knew the entrance to his pantry: at any moment they could take what they needed, and, if possible, return it.

Once the thieves decided to steal a flock of sheep from Spiridon. On a dark night, they climbed into the sheepfold and immediately found themselves bound hand and foot by some unknown force. In the morning Spyridon, having come to the flock, saw the thieves repenting of sin. He untied the robbers, then preached a sermon on the abandonment of the thieves' path, and at the end of the conversation, the elder presented each of them with a sheep and let them go home.

Saint Spyridon reposed in 348 at the age of 78. Its incorruptible powers are unique: they are soft and warm, their weight corresponds to the average weight of a healthy man, hair and nails grow on the body, and clothing and shoes are periodically worn out. And the phenomenon of centuries-old incorruption cannot be explained by any scientist.

According to legend, the saint walks invisibly around the world, so his velvet shoes are worn down and they have to be changed twice a year. Worn out shoes are cut into many pieces and distributed to believers.

And it also happens that the ministers cannot open the reliquary with the relics, which is usually closed on two locks. On such days, local priests know that there is no saint in the reliquary, on such days Spyridon leaves to wander the earth and visits those in need of his help.

After death, he also became famous for his miraculous help to people asking for his intercession from the Almighty. He patronizes wanderers, heals infertility, heals the sick, returns speech to the dumb, helps to resolve household and financial issues, reunites spouses, helps in studies, saves in trouble.

One of the witnesses of his posthumous miracles was the writer Nikolai Gogol. A certain English Protestant assured the pilgrims nearby that special incisions were made on his back, and his body was embalmed. And then the relics of the saint rose from the shrine and turned their backs to the maddened Englishman with horror and fear, after which they lay down in their usual place.

During its reading, the priest reads out the names of those who ask the saint to perform a miracle.

To order a prayer service, it is necessary to write “Prayer to Spyridon of Trimyphuntsky” on a special form taken from the church shop, and below list the names of the petitioners in the genitive case. For example: from whom? - Vladimir, Alexander, Nadezhda, Tatiana.

There is no need to indicate the reason for addressing the saint.

To receive help, it is important to pray with your heart and mind, the words of the prayer must come from the depths of the soul. Prayers memorized by heart do not contribute to concentration of thoughts, therefore such a prayer cannot be heard.
