How to make a desk: ideas, dimensional drawings, step-by-step instructions, photos and videos. Classic desk with own hands Old desk drawing

Creating a desk with your own hands is quite simple if you have the skills to work with wood, raw materials and tools. You can make a product using standard drawings or come up with your own original design. If you have an old table, there is no need to make a new one - there are many ways of restoration, giving furniture a modern look, for example, decoupage. Decorating old furniture is the easiest and cheapest way to get an aesthetically pleasing piece of furniture. Moreover, it will be unique.

Wood material table

Above are the drawings of the simplest product. This is a desk, which is usually made from chipboard. It requires a minimum amount of time, effort and materials.

Before making a desk with your own hands, you need to prepare the following materials and tools:

  • Several sheets of chipboard 20-30 mm thick. It is necessary to purchase them in such a way that 4 canvases can be made (1400x600, 450x1300, 750x500 mm - 2 pieces) with minimal costs.
  • Furniture edge. Sold in rolls, very cheap.
  • Saw or jigsaw.
  • Furniture conductors.
  • Hardware - bolts and nuts or dowels.
  • Joiner's glue or PVA glue (if dowels are used).

Using the drawings, this table is very simple to create:

  1. Parts preparation
    • Cut canvases to the required size. When cutting, it is important to keep the saw as inclined as possible to avoid chipping. If a jigsaw is used, it is better to set it to minimum speed.
    • Make holes in them for bolts. To do this, it is worth using a furniture jig - it will allow you to clearly observe the location, so during assembly there will be no mismatches of holes between the legs, table top and lintel. You can also connect parts of the table using dowels.
    • Finishing. Laminated chipboard does not need to be further processed, and non-laminated chipboard must be opened with varnish and special protective compounds. The order of work is indicated on the label of the substance.
  2. Assembly.
    • No explanation is required when using bolts.
    • When using dowels, it is necessary to install the part in one of the holes, having previously coated it with glue. Then the parts knock together with a mallet. A hammer can be used, but in this case, hit through heavy rubber or a wide board.
  3. Finishing work. All edges must be glued with a furniture edge - otherwise moisture will enter the material through them, it will quickly swell and become unusable.
  4. Decor. You can decoupage the resulting table - paste over it with wallpaper, drawings and varnish.

If necessary, you can make a table for two. To do this, it is worth making a wider tabletop. It makes no sense to make it longer - the product will be too bulky. A table for two will save space and create a comfortable working environment.

Table with drawers for 2 people

A table for two can be made of chipboard or wood, depending on your skills and planned costs. A wooden table for two will last longer, it is more resistant to various factors.

Necessary materials:

  • Solid wood or chipboard. To determine the quantity, you need to look at the drawings of the table for two.
  • Plywood. It is easiest to create boxes of boxes from it. The required amount will also be prompted by the drawings.
  • Hardware - bolts, nuts, washers, etc.
  • Dowels.
  • Furniture edge.
  • Saw or jigsaw.
  • Furniture conductors.
  • Joiner's glue or PVA glue.

The order of work does not differ from the order of creating a simple desk - first, all the details are harvested and processed, then assembly and, if necessary, decor are performed.

We give an aesthetically pleasing look to old furniture

Decoupage is very popular today - decor of various objects based on attaching a drawing, painting or ornament and coating the composition with varnish for durability and creating a special visual effect. In this technique, fantasy is of great importance - the final result largely depends on it.

Decoupage usually requires a small set of tools and materials:

  • Sandpaper with various grain sizes. You can also use angle grinders.
  • Brushes for applying varnishes and paints. You can also use an airbrush, but it is quite expensive, and decoupage will have to be done in a specially designated room. Therefore, such equipment is advisable only if the decor is a professional occupation or a very strong hobby.
  • PVA glue.
  • Acrylic lacquer. The volumes depend on the total area of the surfaces to be decorated. Each manufacturer indicates the consumption of a specific substance on the can - read the labels carefully when choosing.
  • Paints of various colors.
  • Material for pasting. Decoupage involves the use of wallpaper, napkins, newspapers, color magazines - any printed drawings.

Decoupage is performed in several stages:

  1. Sanding and degreasing of all surfaces.
  2. Covering a table or other piece of furniture with a primer. The easiest way is to first apply the substance with a brush and then immediately roll it out with a roller. This saves time and effort on decor.
  3. Opening of all surfaces with paint of a background color. It is necessary to cover in 2 layers, between the layers there should be enough time for drying. The drying time depends on the specific paint and is indicated on the can.
  4. Attaching pictures with glue. The more accurately the images are cut, the better the decor will be. If desired, you can achieve the effect of invisibility of the transition - it will seem that the pictures are drawn, not glued.
  5. Completion of work. Decoupage is almost done - all that remains is to open the surfaces with acrylic varnish. It will allow you to preserve the original appearance of the product for a long time. It is not worth using alkyd enamel instead of acrylic - the latter dries much longer and has a specific smell.

Decoupage is an interesting activity that allows you to give new life to old things. In addition, such decor is available to absolutely everyone, both in terms of finance and in terms of skills.

Designing a writing desk yourself is not as difficult as it seems at first glance. To raise the level of skill, you first need to work hard on creating a simple structure from a table top, two sides and a back wall. An experienced home craftsman can assemble more complex types of tables, for example: classic, built-in, folding, corner, hinged, table with a superstructure, folding table, table with drawers, bureau table, window sill table, table with a curbstone.

Drawing up drawings and diagrams for creating a desk with your own hands

Before creating any of the listed models, you need to decide on its structure, dimensions and design. The design is selected arbitrarily, the main thing is to take into account the rational location in the room. To determine the dimensions, it is desirable to correlate the parameters of the room with the preliminary design of the future product.

The master creates the final design according to his taste, because his work should be practical and unique. Exquisite decor elements will help you - bent metal legs, additions in the form of original handles to built-in drawers, decoupage decor of the table top. The construction of drawings, the timing of the work, the methodology, material, and other nuances depend only on the desire and skills of the craftsman.

The first stage in creating a desk is design or drawing (diagram). The future object on the diagram is usually sketched by a wizard in 3-D format, for the convenience of fixing the overall dimensions of the furniture - height, width, length, depth. The constituent parts of the structure are numbered and signed separately, their individual values (width, length, thickness) are calculated and affixed there.

In the drawing, the dimensions are calculated in centimeters or millimeters. The method and type of connection of parts is outlined.

IMPORTANT! The diagram indicates the size of the parts strictly up to millimeters, in order to avoid errors in the future cutting of the sheet.

According to a correctly calculated and drawn up scheme, parts are easily manufactured and the assembly of the product will be simplified.

Here are some of the designed desks:

Features drawing up a drawing for a desk for a student

An indispensable household item for a student is his personal desk. The child spends a large amount of time behind him, completing homework. In a situation where it is imperative to create comfortable conditions for study, and there is no financial opportunity to buy a table, self-assembly of the school desk will help out.

In this case, the desk will be much cheaper. Making it for a student is quite simple.

Classic table-desks project.

The design can be supplemented:

  • Drawers, bedside tables on either side;
  • Shelves, racks;
  • Organize a niche under the countertop.

REFERENCE. To save space in the room, it is advisable to design the table as angular or folding.

When drawing up a diagram of a writing desk for a student, it is recommended to take into account some features:

  1. It is better to choose a universal table configuration in terms of size and number of additional elements. For cases of forced rearrangement of furniture.
  2. The size of the table is selected individually, depending on the age category of the student (first grader / high school student).
  3. With the angular option, determine the location of the "wave" of the tabletop, depending on the written characteristics of the child (right-handed, left-handed);
  4. The bottom of the drawers should be made of a cheaper, non-laminated chipboard.

Preparation of materials and tools

After the model has been selected, a drawing has been drawn up for it, then we proceed to the next stage - the selection of the necessary tools and the preparation of the basic material.

For any type of assembly work of cabinet furniture, the list of tools is as follows:

  • Jigsaw;
  • Drill;
  • Screwdriver;
  • Hammer;
  • Drill;
  • Level;
  • Roulette;
  • Clamps;
  • Iron;
  • Hacksaw.

More complex types of desks for a student with their own hands, the drawings of which are on the Internet, require the use of a milling, grinding machine.

Most often natural wood (pine, oak, alder, birch, beech) and its derivatives are taken as a basis: chipboard, chipboard, MDF, board, plywood;

To fasten the structure, stocks up:

  • Plastic corners;
  • Bolts, nuts, nails;
  • Self-tapping screws;
  • Wood glue;
  • Dowels, dowels;
  • Liquid nails.

Suitable for paintwork:

  • Paint, brushes;
  • Glue gun;
  • Sandpaper.

Product assembly process

The build process can be divided into several stages:

  1. According to the available drawings, all the constituent elements are cut with a hacksaw or jigsaw.
  2. We cut out two rectangular side panels of the table, protruding in the form of legs.
  3. At the ends of the frame we drill holes - grooves for dowels. Now we firmly set the panels and the frame on the dowels, after applying glue into a deep hole. Then we tap with a hammer on the bar, seating the dowels into the nests.
  4. We attach the frame to the side panels. Two partitions are installed in the niche, fastened with self-tapping screws. A tabletop will be laid on them.
  5. For the structure, we nail the back wall with nails.
  6. Let's start cutting the tabletop. We cut out the part with a jigsaw, according to the drawn up drawings.

IMPORTANT! To avoid chipping, it is best to use a thin jigsaw saw.

We carefully sand the edges of the countertop with sandpaper. The edges of the desk are often pasted over with a paper edge, but are short-lived.

The second option is gluing with melamine tape. It is fixed using a heated iron and thick fabric. The excess tape is cut with scissors.

The most reliable edge will be PVC; an industrial hair dryer and a respirator are used to glue it. It is glued under the influence of high temperatures, about 500 C.

We put the countertop on the dried frame, fix it with plastic corners and self-tapping screws.

Add a partition leg.

The bottom for the boxes is made of fiberboard, the walls and facade are made of particleboard. We attach one of the guides to the niche for the drawers, and the second outside to the drawer. We insert the boxes with guides in place.

IMPORTANT! If the load on the box is heavy, it is better to install metal rails. For a school desk, plastic is suitable.

We fix the handles on the boxes, mask the fastenings with stickers to match the color of the table. We fasten the table shelves with self-tapping screws.

Table decoration - the final stage of work

The final step will be decoration. A piece of furniture should combine both severity and sophisticated beauty, so the decoration will be a little limited.

  1. To give a business style, the tabletop can be treated with linseed oil or wood stain and then varnished. The desk will take on a shine.
  2. To give ease on the countertop, you can depict a drawing using a stencil, draw strict stripes or use a decoupage technique. Cover the entire surface with glass or plexiglass from above. Your kid will definitely love the rainbow countertop.
  3. The easiest and most affordable way is to glue it over with self-adhesive tape, colored tape or old newspapers. You get a pretty original model.

Making a desk with your own hands is not so difficult. There are many drawings and videos for this on the Internet. In selecting material for this article, we looked at a number of different ways: from simple to more complex ones that require special skills. We tried to systematize everything we read and see and compose interesting material for you. We hope we succeeded. We present to your attention some of the most interesting and simple ways to implement.

  • 1 What do we need?

Simple and stylish do-it-yourself desk

How to make a desk with your own hands?

When the necessary materials are purchased, and the tools are prepared, it is time to decide on the product model. As we promised, we will tell you about the most popular and easy to manufacture.

Of wood and similar materials

Wooden desks can be made with your own hands from both solid wood and wood-containing materials. Natural products always look more noble and beautiful, but they require special skills and abilities in the production process. In addition, they are more expensive due to the higher price of the material. Tables made of MDF, chipboard or furniture board are much easier to process, which does not require professional knowledge and are cheaper in cost. We will tell you about both simple and difficult ways to make a table with your own hands.

To begin with, we will describe step by step a simple way that even a person who decides to make something for the first time can cope with:

  • we take a drawing of a table from four rectangular parts. It consists of a cover, two sides and a cross member;
  • we go to the hardware store for chipboard. It is better to buy a laminated board right away;
  • you can order a cut to size right in the warehouse, it is inexpensive, and you will bring home ready-made parts for your table;
  • in case you refused to cut in the store, apply the dimensions on the chipboard sheet and cut out the parts with a jigsaw;
  • we glue the edge previously purchased in the same place as the plates on the ends of the chipboard. By the way, if you ordered a cut of chipboard, then you can glue the edge over there. Fitted to the end using professional equipment, it looks much better and will last much longer;
  • we take a drill and drill holes in the end parts - the future legs of the desk;
  • then with a slightly larger drill we make a shallow groove over the hole for the confirmation hat;
  • we attach the transverse partition to the side legs with holes so that their upper parts are at the same level;
  • we connect the structure with furniture screws;
  • put the countertop on top of the resulting base and also twist it with confirmations, having previously drilled holes;
  • we close the recessed screw heads with special plastic plugs.
  • Thus, the simplest chipboard writing desk is completely ready. As you can see, a minimum of effort was expended, and no special skills were required. Now let's talk about making a desk for a student with your own hands, the drawings of which you will find at the end of the article.

    DIY desk model

    For a student

    Now let's talk about a slightly more complex method. But practically everyone can implement it at home. This table is ideal for school student use. Detailed manufacturing instructions:

  • we disassemble the old wooden pallet into separate boards;
  • if you have an old hollow door lying on your balcony or garage, then it will ideally fit under the countertop. If not, then you will have to cut two sheets of thick plywood to size and connect them in thickness using self-tapping screws and glue;
  • we cut out the boards for the supports. The simplest and at the same time spectacular-looking legs are those in the form of construction "goats";
  • the height of the supports at your discretion: from 70 to 80 centimeters;
  • it is better to make the upper horizontal goat in the same width as the working surface;
  • the optimal size of the indentation from the edge of the tabletop for attaching the legs is six centimeters;
  • we measure the angle of inclination of the legs, it must exactly coincide with the height of the supports;
  • we install a horizontal bar between the upper parts of the legs, after drilling the holes. We tighten it with drywall bolts. Please note that the holes must be drilled with a slightly larger diameter than the screw itself, this is due to the fact that the legs are at an angle;
  • at a height of about three centimeters from the floor, we fasten a wide bar (about twenty centimeters), it will significantly strengthen the supporting legs and serve as a platform for the shelves;
  • attach the last remaining boards from the pallet to the bar - the shelves are ready;
  • we take the door and trim the sidewalls with a special edging, it is sold in furniture stores;
  • from the bottom of the countertop we nail two parallel strips on each side. This is done so that the work surface does not go on our "goats";
  • heels on legs can be made from wine corks and double-sided tape.
  • We will tell you how to make a sliding desk with your own hands below.

    The ideal table for a student with their own hands

    Retractable

    One of the most popular desk models is a product with drawers. The modification we will be describing is a great example of an expensive home-made natural wood writing desk. Manufacturing scheme:

  • we buy glued furniture board, always made of hardwood;
  • we take the drawing attached to the article and use it to mark the parts. Do not forget to make a small tolerance for the dimensions of the blanks;
  • we cut out eight blanks for the desk supports from the purchased shield. Their dimensions are 18x36x570 millimeters;
  • we glue each leg from two parts and fix them with a clamp;
  • cut out recesses from the inside of all cross members of the product frame;
  • choose a long groove along the inner side of the side bar (cross member);
  • on the upper side of the supports with a chisel and a hacksaw, select a ledge to the height of the notch in the crossbar;
  • in the sidewalls of the sidewalls we drill two holes for the dowels. Their diameter is eight millimeters;
  • we insert pencils into the holes and apply them to the legs to mark the place into which the dowels are inserted;
  • we connect the base and supports with dowels and wood glue;
  • while the base of the desk dries, we cut the countertop and the top cover of the superstructure;
  • select the grooves for the fastening of the upper right side. This operation is performed using a router. The width of the grooves is ten millimeters;
  • with a jigsaw, cut out the side walls of the superstructure using a template. We carefully sand all sections;
  • we also select grooves in them;
  • we cut out the details for the drawers from ten-millimeter plywood;
  • glue them together and strengthen the fastening with small nails;
  • on the front part we attach a facing board, previously sawn out of wood. We fix it with small screws;
  • from all the prepared parts we assemble a desk with a superstructure and drawers. We coat all the blanks in the attachment points with joiner's glue. We leave the product to dry completely;
  • we attach the tabletop to the base with legs using dowels and glue in the folds we saw in advance;
  • after that, it remains to pick up the fittings for the drawers and varnish the table. Please note that we cover with varnish in two or three layers, but each new one is applied after the previous one has dried.
  • Such a writing desk made of solid wood will definitely not leave your guests and household members indifferent. And at the price it will cost you four times less than bought in a store.

    The corner desk is one of the largest and most functional. In addition, it occupies the usually unused area of the room, freeing up space for other furniture. Here's a quick guide to making a simple corner writing desk:

  • we buy sheets of MDF or chipboard and ask in advance to cut it out right in the store according to the drawing attached to the sketch. Any dispatch department of a construction supermarket provides this service for a relatively low price;
  • we connect the side walls with the tsar with the help of dowels smeared with carpentry glue (PVA familiar to us all from childhood);
  • we fix with clamps;
  • we nail the back wall of fiberboard with small carnations;
  • do not forget that we clean all visible sections of MDF or chipboard with sandpaper and paste over with an edge. As we already wrote above, this service can also be ordered in a construction hypermarket;
  • mark the wrong side of the table top for the dowel attachment point;
  • we drill holes for them, but so that they are not through, but remain deep enough;
  • we smear the dowels with glue and put the top cover on them;
  • after drying, turn the product over. Our corner desk is ready.
  • Now you know how to make a corner writing desk with your own hands, it's time to study dimensional drawings, diagrams and useful photo and video materials.

    We have attached to our article all the necessary drawings and diagrams for the manufacture of desks described above. We hope they will help, and you will not only save money on the purchase, but also enjoy the assembly process.

    Another option to get an exclusive hand-made product into your home is the restoration of an old desk. By pasting it with foil, colored tape or old newspapers with varnish applied on top, you will get an original model of the table. This process is less labor intensive and cheaper than manufacturing from scratch.

    The following video in three parts will tell you how to make a desk with your own hands. And the first of them is dedicated to the manufacture of countertops:

    It's time to take up the tsars and the projectile, which is described in the second part of the video about how to make a desk with your own hands.

    When a child goes to school, the parents try to get him a writing desk where he can do his homework. But furniture is expensive, even if it is for children, and huge sums of money can be spent on it. But it is quite possible to do on your own and make a wonderful writing desk with your own hands, where the child will be comfortable to sit and study. Check out the manufacturing technology.

    Writing desk - types and manufacturing technology

    Before you start, you need to learn how to make a DIY desk. There are many options, you will need to choose one.

    • The straight table is more popular; many parents choose it for the student. To make such a table, you must follow a certain sequence. First you need to arrange the ends and only then the countertop. You cannot make mistakes during the manufacture of the ends, otherwise it will be impossible to put the whole structure together. Follow the proportions shown in the drawing strictly. As for the size, it should be appropriate for the child's age.

    • When there is not enough space in the house, you can make a corner desk. It is enough to adapt one corner of the room for this, but you have to tinker with its manufacture. Therefore, it is advisable to order the cutting of chipboard or MDF boards in order to collect all the details later.

    • Sometimes the rooms in which we live are so small that it is difficult to place anything there at all. In this case, a folding table can be made, which can be adapted to other needs. When the table is not needed, it is removed and does not interfere in any way with moving around the room freely.

    • Even from the window sill, you can form a desk. In this case, the space of the sill is dismantled. A countertop is placed on its surface. It is advisable that the size of the countertop is larger than the window sill itself. Below you can put pedestals or metal racks so that they support the entire structure.

    • Transforming tables are also very popular now. After all, they can fulfill several purposes at once - a place where various kinds of things for a school and a student's workplace are stored. Such a table is constructed from a pedestal on which a tabletop is attached. To make it easier to use, you can equip the structure with wheels. Thus, you can build a bed or wardrobe with a pull-out table.

    There are many options for writing desks: you can attach it to the wall or hang a cabinet with a retractable table top.

    If you want your table to look presentable as a piece of furniture, take noble materials such as solid ash or oak. Remember that wood reacts to changes in moisture, so consider this when choosing one or another material. Before starting production, it is best to draw up a sketch.

    For the model to be ergonomic, the following parameters should be adhered to: table height should be 800 cm, width - 1500, depth - 700 cm.The side drawers should be about 330 cm wide, their height should be 300 cm, and the central drawer should be 150 cm in height It is better to purchase all materials in advance.

    Let's try to make a regular desk with drawers and two side tables. First you need to make a countertop. Prepare the necessary material: solid wood, chipboard, MDF boards, laminate board. You can also adapt the countertop of an old product for this, just remember to give it an attractive look.

    In addition, prepare other materials: a 40 mm block, small pipes, glue, tape (edging) to form the table frame. Do not forget about the drawing of the table to keep all the proportions. The size of the product should be suitable for the student who will be working on it.

    Transfer the drawing to materials and you can start manufacturing. The jigsaw will help you cut out all the necessary elements.

    Working process:

    • Connect the ends to the inner sides, do not forget to use wood glue to process the ends, this must be done. Screw in the screws, but try to work carefully so as not to spoil the appearance. The ends are fastened with dowels and grooves.

    • A plank can be attached at the back to keep the whole structure stable.

    • Attach the shelves where the cabinet will be.

    • Attach two partitions in the niche with self-tapping screws so that it is convenient to install the tabletop.

    • Install the countertop using dowels and grooves.

    • To make things on the table conveniently folded, you can make additional elements - compartments and recesses and equip the tabletop with them. If you plan to put a computer on the table surface, then fix the podium on it for installing the monitor.

    • Finish the contour of the countertop with decorative piping.
    • In the curbstone, you need to make guides so that you can equip it with boxes. All you have to do is insert your drawers into the cabinet after they are fastened. Drawers must be made of the same material as the countertop. You also need to make guides on the sides of the boxes.

    If you are making a classic writing desk, then you need to first attach the ends to the inner wall, and then work with the table top. For the legs, you must first make holes. The upper ends should not be allowed to be at different levels.

    The corner desk is made a little differently. The rails must be attached to the side of the posts. Attach the back board with self-tapping screws. The markings are made on the countertops, then the pedestals and the back wall are attached to them.

    The folding structure is made of two children: a table top and a folding scarf with hinges. The table top can also be supported by legs.

    If the desk is built from a window sill, then you must first prepare the countertop from an MDF or chipboard panel. They will need to be adjusted to the length of the window sill. You should also take care to create convection flow. To do this, you will need to know the size from the window sill to the radiators in order to make holes in the panel.

    A metal profile curved up to 90 degrees will help to attach the panel. With the help of polyurethane foam, you need to process the cavities under the countertop, the joints are treated with a sealant. The support is made at the corners and fixed with self-tapping screws.

    This is not the end of the work. When you make your desk, you need to take care to make it look attractive.

    Decorative table decoration

    Worktops that are made of wood material need processing, otherwise it will be inconvenient to work behind it. Use drying oil and wood stain for surface treatment. Before coating with this material, the surface must be properly sanded with at least 180 grit sandpaper. At the final stage, paint with varnish.

    If you want a natural-looking countertop, use materials that mimic a woody surface. Some people prefer to lay a sheet of glass on top of the countertop to improve its performance.

    Young children especially like it when the table has an original decoration. You can make its surface striped. To do this, you need tape. First paint the entire surface of the table with light paint. Cover the table with tape with stripes and paint the places where there is no tape with a darker paint. Then remove the tape and it will be striped.

    The table surface can be finished using decoupage technique. To do this, you will need to glue various paper pictures or other material over its surface. This way you can make a real work of art.

    When you make a desk yourself, then involve your children in this activity. They usually like to create with their parents, they can be excellent helpers in this matter. In the process of work, they learn not only the skill of a carpenter, but also perseverance and concentration.

    Your desk will be a wonderful decoration for your interior and a place where the student will work, do homework. In order for your project to succeed, you need to try hard and study first all the nuances of the work and only then get down to business.
