How to remove metal rivets. How to put a rivet on metal. How to use a riveter: types of riveting tools. Different types of drive

Rivet is an excellent and durable type of fastener. But unlike bolts, nuts, studs and screws, it cannot be removed without damaging it. The bolt can be unscrewed with wrenches or a screwdriver, after which it can be reused. The riveted rivet will have to be thrown away. The question also arises: "How to rivet rivets if there is no riveter in the arsenal?"

The essence of the rivet

Rivet - disposable fasteners. But it is also the cheapest. If the device is made permanently and does not imply disassembly of parts in the future, these parts can be riveted. They will hold as firmly as the screws, but will be even more secure. The screw can unscrew over time, but the rivet itself will not disperse, since it is impossible to rivet it without the help of special tools.

Rivets in construction and mechanical engineering

There are many. Some have the form of a single part - a sleeve, which is inserted into the hole and, using a special rivet, expand the edges of the sleeve on the other side of the parts to be joined and press (flatten). Such rivets are the most common, cheap and reliable. They are mainly used in construction and mechanical engineering. How to rivet a rivet of construction varieties?

Dismantling the construction rivet

It is difficult to call this action dismantling as such. This is deletion. To remove a rivet, you will need the usual riveter with which it was installed. But since it is not at hand, it is worth figuring out how to rivet a rivet without a riveter.

Rivets with a cap or bent part sticking out above the plane of riveted parts can be torn off with a sharp chisel and hammer:

  1. Place the tip of the chisel exactly under the head (or folded part).
  2. Hit the chisel with a hammer. Some large rivets may take several hits to break.
  3. When the head (or folded part) is torn off, all that remains is to remove the rivet from the hole. This can be done by pushing it out with a nail or other thin object (such as a screwdriver).

But more often you can't get to the hats and bent parts, since they are, as it were, in the body of the parts being fastened. Special grooves are drilled under the caps and expanding parts in the details at the factory, and then the rivets sit in the metal as if cast. How to rivet rivets in such a "tricky" case?

Here a screwdriver (or drill) with a metal drill selected for the diameter of the rivet will come to the rescue. Proceed as follows:

  1. With a punch, make a notch on the head of the rivet so that the drill does not walk, although some are used to doing without serifs.
  2. Place the screwdriver bit on the head and drill out the insides of the rivet.
  3. When the drill goes through, the remnants of the cap and flared part fall out on their own.

Rivets on clothes

But rivets are also used in the manufacture of all kinds of clothing models. Their use began in the 19th century, when, when sewing trousers from coarse canvas, which will later be called jeans, one of the masters noticed that if the seam at the beginning is riveted with a rivet, it will definitely not disperse and will not break.

Here rivets are used, for which the name "buttons" is more appropriate. Unlike conventional ones, they consist of two parts - an internal and an external one. Everything is held by the fact that the head of one element enters the cavity of the other. Then, under the pressure of the rivet, the head of the inner element flattens (expands) inside the cavity of the outer element, and such a "superbutton" can no longer be broken, no matter how hard you try. The fabric is more likely to tear. How to rivet these types of rivets correctly?

Removing rivets from clothing

This is done in two ways. One - with the help of side cutters, the other - with a knife and a pair of pliers. The choice of methods depends on whether your rivet is alpha (inner) or beta (outer). The corners and edges of the stitching are mostly riveted with alpha varieties, otherwise known as eyelets. Beta is used in cases of buttons that fasten clothes. One part there is alpha, and beta is riveted on it. Despite the fact that such rivets hold the material perfectly, they are afraid of mechanical stress.

How to rivet alpha rivets with a knife and two pliers?

It is done.

How to rivet a beta rivet on clothes? It's even easier here. The procedure is as follows:

Many have seen this device in tool stores - but not everyone knows how to use it. Those who have never held the blind riveter in their hands will simply not be able to appreciate the convenience and versatility of its use.

Riveted joints have been and remain a versatile and inexpensive way to join various parts. In shipbuilding and aircraft construction, this is generally the only way to attach the skin to the frame.

Classic riveting looks like this:

This is how the Titanic's body and handle were riveted to your frying pan.

IMPORTANT! The riveted connection is non-separable. To separate the parts, it is necessary to mechanically break (drill, cut) the rivet.

Modern technologies have also touched upon this ancient method. In everyday life, few people use a hammer and a crimping nozzle. There are semi-automatic tools that allow you to rivet parts to each other with almost one hand. Truth and rivets look a little different.

How does a manual riveter work?

To understand the process, you need to see the rivet at work. The diagram shows its main elements:

A rivet sleeve is placed in the prepared hole. The tool is put on the core and abuts against the rivet collar. The fixed rod is pulled out of the sleeve, riveting the top of the sleeve.

When the riveting is completed and the core head is firmly seated in the riveted bushing, the rod comes off. Riveted materials are connected only by a bushing.

IMPORTANT! The material describes a mechanical blind riveter. There are hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical attachments. However, they are not used in everyday life.

The principle of operation of the tool itself and its structure will also be considered in the diagram.

  • the head (1) is put on the core of the rivet installed in the hole;
  • the body (2) acts as a lower handle and a thrust bed;
  • the upper handle (3), resting on the frame with the axis (9), is a power lever;
  • when squeezing the handles, the working sleeve (4) compresses the collet jaws (5), tightly fixing the rivet rod;
  • continuing to move, the collet mechanism pulls the rod out of the rivet sleeve, forming a riveted ring;
  • when the handles are unclenched, the cone bushing (6), under the action of the spring (7), unclenches the cams, allowing the collet mechanism to take its original lower position;
  • cover (8) is a spring stop, can be removed to service the collet mechanism;
  • for the convenience of the operator, removable heads (10) are stored in the body for different diameters of rivets.

Removing rivets

When repairing machinery, equipment, household items: kettles, locks, shovels and many others, you often have to separate parts, remove old rivets. In order not to spoil the parts, this operation must be performed using special tools.

Cut off the semicircular head of the rivet with a special chisel called a jamb, and knock out the parts from the hole with a beard, Do it like this,

From one surface of the part, where it is more convenient, the rivet head is cut off with a hammer on the jamb. Then, a support is installed on the opposite side of the parts. Moreover, the support should be taken such that its mass is greater than the mass of the hammer, and the diameter of the tool hole slightly exceeds the diameter of the rivet head. The rivet head should go into the support hole. Install the barb in the center of the rod (in the place of the cut head) and knock out the rivet with hammer blows.

If it is difficult or inconvenient to cut off the rivet head, you can spoil the part, then proceed as follows. Saw off the head a little, put a punch mark in its center and drill a rivet. The drill diameter should be slightly smaller than the shank diameter. If the rivet is not removed during the drilling process, then it is finally knocked out with a beard.

Countersunk rivets can only be removed by drilling. If the countersunk head of the rivet is broken, then the rivet can be knocked out with a beard.

A rivet is a disposable fastener designed for fastening 2 or more parts. A riveter is used to install this fastener. How to remove a rivet will have to proceed from the availability of available tools, because there is no universal tool. In addition, the selection of materials for the metal structure is made in accordance with the technical specifications.

Aluminum, copper, steel differ in hardness, to varying degrees they are subject to diffusion, oxidation rate and other physicochemical processes. The only way that can be called almost universal is drilling. This process can be carried out in 3 ways, which in most cases depends on how close the fastening metal is to the fastened elements.

How to remove the blind rivet

The blind rivet is a little easier to remove. When dismantling it, it is necessary to remove the ring formed during fastening. If possible, when compressing the material of construction, insert a saw blade for metal, the mount can be cut off, and the hairpin can be removed by pulling it out by the rod. If there is no way to cut or cut, there is always a chance to remove the mount using the first method - to drill.

The secret mount can only be removed by drilling, and the exhaust heads can be knocked down with a hammer if the strength of the material fastened by them is greater than that of the mount itself. Provided that using this method of dismantling, there is no certainty of 100% safety for your own hands and the appearance of the material, it is better to refuse it.

Rivets are one of the most primitive types of fasteners. They are used to join sheet steel and tin, as well as plastic and even leather. The connections that are made with rivets are very strong and riveting is extremely difficult. In fact, in order to remove rivet you need to cut off its head, otherwise it won't work. And to use this rivet later, of course, will not work. It will only be allowed to throw it away.

You will need

  • file, chisel, pliers

Instructions

1. The difficulty in removing rivets also lies in the fact that you need to be extremely careful and tidy so as not to damage the surface from which you are removing it. Rivets are made from different materials with different properties and strengths. Therefore, choose the disposal method according to the material first.

2. Rather, you will need a lot of each time to work, so please be patient and have the right tools. From the tools, prepare a file, a chisel, pliers, perhaps even a drill with a thin drill. In short, get hold of virtually every selection of tools, as you may need any of those tools.

3. If you are removing a rivet from a metal or similar surface, use a file to get started. This will be fine if the head of your rivet itself is above the surface it connects. If the file does not give the expected results, use a chisel. But be careful, try to scratch the surface as little as possible and not injure your fingers.

4. Because rivets are not only made from different materials, but also come in different types, the approach to removing different types will also be different. So, if the head is not at ease above the surface for which it serves to connect, but has a countersunk head, use a drill instead of a file and a chisel.

5. The drill should be thin, but it must be carefully selected in diameter. First, carefully drill out the countersunk head of the rivet, and then select a rod or a similar tool, the main one, so that it fits correctly in diameter, and try to knock out the head.

6. Later, after you have mastered the head, carefully bend the teeth with pliers and pull out the rivet shaft. Cut the edges of the hole that remain after the rivet using the appropriate material method.

7. In the event that the rivet needs to be removed from the leather product, everything will be more difficult if it is important for you to damage the surface of the material as much as possible. In this case, only pliers will work. Gently squeeze the head in several places, and then try to loosen it.

8. If possible, carefully bend the teeth of the rivet and pull out the shank. If the rivet does not give in, pulling its head slightly upward from the material with pliers, file it with a file. Then follow the same pattern.

When sewing and repairing clothes, you may need to supply riveting... The clasp in the form of a button-button from 2 parts (top and bottom) is comfortable to use and lasts long enough without wear. However, if you have never come across this piece of sewing accessories, then it is strictly cool to prepare for its installation. To rivet buttons onto fabric, you need special tools, precision and accuracy. If you make a mistake, then it is allowed to spoil both the riveting itself and the clothes.

You will need

  • - Button;
  • - blade or knitting needle;
  • - special rivet pliers (or pliers and a hammer);
  • - a piece of soft plastic;
  • - scissors;
  • - 2 pieces of rubber;
  • - highly professional press punch (optional).

Instructions

1. Find garment rivet pliers at a fabric and sewing supply store. When buying them, check the package contents: you will need a nozzle that matches the diameter of your riveting, and the pliers themselves with a lock. In order to put a rivet on clothes, you need to make a hole in the canvas in advance. It should be smaller than the base of the sewing hardware. Make a cruciform incision with a sharp razor blade, or carefully poke a hole with a red-hot needle.

2. Insert the front of the button into the hole made at the top and the wrong side of the button at the bottom. It is necessary to attach the parts of the fastener as much as possible diligently, so that when riveting they do not move.

3. Cut a rectangular shape out of soft plastic for better fixation of the rivet parts. A dense cover for books and school notebooks is suitable for this. Fold the resulting rectangle in half with a "book". Now it is necessary to make two holes on it - for the lower and seamy parts of the rivet. Fix the fittings in the "slots", put the canvas with the space indicated for fastening between this simple device.

4. Place slices of rubber on both sides of the button - say, cut from leaky boots, or sanitary pads. When working with pliers, you need to apply strong force, and you risk deforming the surface of the product.

5. Grasp the rivet with pliers and squeeze the tool handles all the way - you should hear a classic click. It is also allowed to use improvised means - ordinary pliers, or a hammer. In this case, rubber gaskets will become a necessary condition for successful work.

Useful advice
If you did not succeed in putting the riveting on your own, contact the studio, where there is a special press punch for buttons, eyelets and other accessories. You can purchase such a device in a store. Follow the instructions. In order to strengthen the fastener on the clothes with his help, you will not need to make significant efforts.

Many times, when the printer is not used for a long time, it stops accepting paper, blinks with all the lamps and does not print at all. This means it's time to change the printhead. This is allowed to be assigned to the masters of the service center, but it is allowed to do it independently, so as not to pay extra money.

Instructions

1. Remove the paper feed tray. It is not necessary to remove the cover. Open the latch primitively by pressing it in with your finger and pull the tray out towards you. Later, after unscrewing the screws, dismantle the bezels. Please note that there are also latches under the screws - press them a little, and the plastic will bend. Grasp the edge of the sidewall and slide the panel away from you. To remove the bezel from the other side, follow the same steps.

2. Remove the USB frame. To do this, pull it up and back at the same time. There are screws under it that fix the case. Unscrew both screws and remove the upper part of the housing. Then you will see the latches that you need to simultaneously clamp and pull the plastic towards you. Later, it is allowed to remove the printer cover by pulling it up.

3. Unlock the carriage in order to dismantle the assemblies. Find a huge white gear inside the printer in the left corner. Rotate it carefully with your hands to unlock. Perform all operations after unplugging the printer from the network. Before turning on the printer, make sure the carriage is positive - slide it into the parking lot.

4. Disconnect all electrical loops and remove the safety plates that are located on the inside and outside of the carriage. Also remove the contact block of the power supply of the chips. To do this, move the carriage to the right as far as it will go, while simultaneously squeezing the latch. Lift the block up and dismantle its right side.

5. Move the carriage to the left until it stops and correctly also remove the chip power supply from the left side. A printhead will appear in front of you, which is secured with three bolts. Unscrew them, remove the cables from the connectors, and then remove head .

6. Replace head and reassemble the printer in reverse order. If you are making this operation for the first time, then for the comfort and guarantee of correct assembly, write down all your steps, so that later you can repeat them exactly and not leave any "unnecessary" details.
