How to weld a gate from a professional pipe with your own hands video. Strong gates from a profile pipe: making your own hands Welding sliding gates from a profile pipe in stages

There are many types of gate frames on the site, but many of them require bulky equipment or special equipment to install. Often it is very expensive, long and inconvenient, especially in small areas. In such a situation, the easiest way is to assemble the gate from a profile pipe with your own hands. Their manufacture does not require the participation of sophisticated equipment, in addition, all consumables for such frames are cheaper than factory and bulky models.

Material selection

Profile pipes are quite versatile and are used at many stages of construction: from foundation to finishing work. Therefore, there is a huge variety of types of this material. Pipes may differ in the type of section, composition and coating of steel, etc. Pipes are made from the following types of steel:

  • galvanized;
  • stainless ;
  • carbonaceous .

The stainless steel metal profile is very light, so it is more often used as furniture frames. But galvanized and carbon steel are great for assembling the frame of the gate. In addition to the type of steel, pipes are divided according to the type of production. They are seamless and welded. The former have better resistance to adverse conditions, various vibrations and pressure. Because of their qualities, they are highly valued.

Welded profiled pipes are much cheaper. They are vulnerable at the weld, but this does not affect the quality of small products.

Important! Welded hot-rolled pipes are best suited for assembling frames and similar structures.

Many hot rolled pipes can be priced differently. For assembling the gate, a metal profile of the middle and low price segments is quite suitable.

Gate assembly instructions

Before work, you should prepare the necessary set of tools. The stages of manufacturing a gate frame from a profile pipe include:

If you are a car owner, then the main thing is that the car can freely pass through the future gates. The standard size for a passenger car is 3 meters in length and 1.5 in height. For the gate, the length is taken the same, and the width - from 0.75 meters.

If the gate is installed on a site with a finished fence, their height is calculated taking into account the parameters of the fence. The height difference between them should not exceed 30 cm. Usually, the distance between the supporting posts of the fence is left for the gate. The standard step between the supports is 3 meters, this should be enough to install the gate frame.

Building a drawing

Making a gate from a profile pipe with your own hands will not do without building a detailed drawing or sketch. It must indicate:

  • the size of the gate itself;
  • pipe thickness;
  • distance from support pillars;
  • dimensions of additional components of the frame.

Important! If you plan to equip the gate with automation, mark the place on the drawing for their installation. Keep in mind that automatic gates require a much larger gap between the fasteners and the leaves.

Massive structures require more spacers. If you use a metal profile or galvanized steel for sheathing the gate, do not skimp on additional parts of the frame. This will protect the gate from the effects of wind and temperature changes.

Necessary materials and equipment

After constructing the drawing, you can begin to calculate the cost and purchase the necessary materials. To assemble a standard gate you will need:

  • Metal profile of different sizes. The frame is made from pipes with a section of 50 × 50. For pillars, a profile of 100 × 100 is suitable.
  • Sheathing. The leaf leaf of the gate is made of profiled sheet, wood or forged elements. To create an unusual design, materials are combined with each other.
  • Fasteners. To attach the wings to the supports, you must purchase ready-made hinges. It is most convenient to fix them with self-tapping screws.
  • Paint and primer for metal. If the frame is welded from non-galvanized pipes, it must be protected from corrosion.

To work, you will need the following tools:

  • welding equipment (+ electrodes);
  • drill;
  • tape measure, level and corner;
  • Bulgarian;
  • grinding equipment for processing seams;
  • brushes.

Most of the tools can be rented or asked from friends. When the materials are purchased, and the tools are ready to go, you can start assembling.

Assembly and installation of the frame

To assemble a gate from a profile without errors, you must follow a strict sequence:

After drying the frame, you can proceed to the sheathing and installation of the lock.

Frame sheathing

After the frame has dried, the door trim is mounted. The progress of work depends on what material was chosen for the canvas of the sashes. Most often, the same coating is used for the gate as for the fence. Otherwise, the gate will be knocked out of the general view of the site. Sometimes this approach looks advantageous. A brick fence, complemented by wrought iron gates and a gate, gives the architecture of the building a sophisticated look.

Decking

Metal coatings are rightfully considered the most practical. It is best to buy already painted galvanized coating. You just have to attach it to the frame. Often such products are supplemented with forged elements in the form of bolts or platbands. It looks very elegant and improves the look of an ordinary metal profile. A photo example of a combined gate is presented below.

Wood

The material looks very advantageous, and over time its appearance gets better. However, rotting and low resistance to mechanical stress can adversely affect the appearance of such a skin. To improve the quality of wood, it is treated with fire retardants and impregnations from decay. This will extend the life of the gate.

Note! The wooden parts of the gate can be replaced over time without harming the frame.

Forging and metal

Often, the gate frame is sheathed with bars made of reinforcement or forged elements. With the help of cutting and welding machine, you can create interesting designer gates with various patterns and grids. To give the product a complete look, it is painted in a single color with a metal coating.

Sheathing made of wood or metal profiles can be on both sides of the gate. With one-sided sheathing, the material is attached from the outside of the wings. To protect the holes from corrosion, plugs are used in tandem with self-tapping screws.

Gates and gates are a necessary addition to the fence of their profiled sheet. The gates provide access to the site for cars and special equipment, and the gate is for those who came on foot. Unlike a fence, the design of gates and wickets turns out to be more complex, so a separate drawing is developed for them and a special calculation of materials is made.

We want to offer you several ready-made drawings of corrugated gates and wickets that you can customize to suit your conditions. The height of the fence and gate must match the height of the fence.

The main types of gates for country and country houses

  • hinged - are two hinged doors that open inward or outward. Simple and cheap to install, however, they can damage the car upon entry, especially if there is a strong wind. They also need to clear a lot of space.
  • sliding or sliding gates with a guide rail - the door moves on a roller mechanism along the fence line. A complex design, special expensive fittings make such gates not the most affordable. But they provide a higher level of comfort: an automated drive makes it possible to open them without leaving the car.

Drawings of swing gates and wickets

When drawing up a drawing, it is important to determine the width of the gate and wicket opening, height, as well as the frame model. Do not forget that when designing the gate, it is necessary to correctly distribute the load on the leaf, because it is attached to the side hinges and their weight completely rests on the pillars. For this reason, gate posts are often made of a thicker profile pipe or laid out of brick.

The metal thickness of the profile pipe should be at least 3-4 mm. Accordingly, the foundation under the gate supports must be sufficiently reliable. Weak supports will lead to sagging of the sashes and deformation of the structure from wind loads and the gravity of the sashes. For the frame, you need to use a lighter profile pipe in order to prevent overload on the wings, however, a frame that is too thin will not withstand wind loads.

Pay attention to the choice of gate width. The optimal width is 4 meters, it allows both cars and trucks to safely enter, even from a narrow street. Remember, the wider the leaf, the greater the load it creates on the supports (in accordance with the law of the lever).

Schemes of gates and wickets made of corrugated board with a parallel frame

1. Before us is a "classic" and well-balanced drawing of a gate with a wicket. The height of 2 meters corresponds to the traditional height of the fence from the profiled sheet. 60x60 pillars must cope with a 40x20 pipe frame. The frame itself is not overloaded, easy to calculate, does not require a lot of materials. It has only one drawback - the lack of diagonal rigidity. It is compensated by the presence of two horizontal strips of the profile pipe at once, which form three sections 60-70 cm wide on the sash.

Also a characteristic feature is the presence of the upper crossbar. It gives a more balanced load distribution, prevents the posts from moving towards each other, however, for successful entry into the area of high cars, you need to make it removable.

2. Another version of the drawing. This time without the crossbar. Please note that the support poles have a larger diameter due to the lack of a crossbar.

3. Swing gates with a built-in gate. This scheme is perfect for those who have limited space to enter / enter the territory. At a width of 4 meters, both the gate and the gate are placed. However, it should be understood that the presence of a gate increases the mass of the sash, which means that the cross section of the side column must be at least 10x10 cm and it is better to place the gate closer to the column (according to the law of the lever, it will give less load to the gate support).

Schemes of gates and wickets with diagonals

The presence of diagonal elements of the frame increases the rigidity of the structure and makes it resistant to various kinds of deformations, however, it should be remembered that additional lines are an additional load and it is important to choose the right pattern here. So instead of two horizontal bars it is better to use one. Diagonal slat arrangement options are shown in the drawings below. The cross section of the supporting posts for a fence with diagonals must be at least 80x80.

1. Diagonals from extreme corners to the middle or vice versa. Such schemes look quite nice. One looks like a snowflake, the other forms a diamond pattern.

Length of the hypotenuse: where but And b are the sides of a right triangle.

2. Diagonals from one corner of the sash to another. The scheme allows you to minimize the load on the sash and at the same time give the necessary rigidity, however, welding such a diagonal is not very convenient.

3. Small diagonals at the corners of the wings. It looks quite beautiful and creates a minimum load, however, such wings have a high windage, which means they can suffer from wind loads.

In the following video, you will receive valuable tips on how to prevent the support posts from bevelling under the weight of the sashes:

Drawings of sliding gates from corrugated board

The best option for a sliding fence that you can build on your own is a design with a guide rail. For her, it is enough just to pick up sets of fittings and automation systems. The gate includes a retractable leaf with a bottom rail that moves on a special roller system. In order for the structure to be balanced when closed, an additional triangular console is welded to the side of the frame.

As you can see, the gate frame consists of a frame and a console, which are made of a thicker profile pipe (60x40). The internal elements of the console are also better made from this pipe. Inside the gate frame, the frame pattern can be made in different versions (with rectangles or triangles. The main thing is that the pipe be a lighter pipe (for example, 40x20). Also, do not make the grate too frequent. The procedure for installing a sliding fence is presented in the following video:

We hope that the above drawings will help you make your own gates and gates from corrugated board, which will be comfortable, reliable and durable.

Plots adjacent to residential buildings are standardly fenced with subsequent installation of gates. This is a rather bulky and heavy equipment, for the installation of which special equipment is required. In small areas, it is inconvenient and difficult to perform such work, and a person bears considerable costs. Making a gate from a profile pipe on your own will be the right decision.

Gates made of similar material have their own nuances.

The right choice of material

Rolled metal such as profile pipes is versatile and is used at any construction stage, from laying the foundation to finishing activities. This explains the wide range of such products. Pipes are usually distinguished by the type of section, outer coating, and general composition. Products can be:

  • stainless;
  • galvanized;
  • carbonaceous.

The metal profile made of stainless steel is lightweight, suitable for creating furniture frames. Carbon or galvanized steel is used in the manufacture of durable and reliable gate frames.

Profile pipes are different according to the types of production, they are usually divided into seamless and welded options. Devices belonging to the first type are characterized by high resistance to increased pressure, vibrations, and adverse external factors. This explains their high cost.

In this video you will learn more about how to make a gate:

If we talk about welded pipes, their price range is much lower. Their most vulnerable places are welds, but this property is unacceptable for small products. Gate frames are usually assembled using hot-rolled welded tubes.

Detailed instructions for assembling the gate

Before starting work, it is necessary to prepare the appropriate tools. If you wish, you can independently weld the gate from profile pipes you need to go through a series of successive steps:

  • taking measurements of the future design;
  • creation of a sketch, drawing;
  • acquisition of materials necessary for work;
  • assembly and assembly activities.

If there is a vehicle, it is very important to create a structure that freely passes the car. The standard dimensions for the gate through which a passenger car has to pass are represented by indicators of 3 m (length) and 1.5 m (height). As for the adjacent gate, its parameters will be identical except for the width, which will change by 0.75 m.

Often the gate structure is mounted on a site where there is already a finished fence. In this case, its height should be calculated based on the parameters of the existing fence. The difference in height in this case does not exceed 30 cm. Usually, the distance left between the support-type pillars for the future frame installation is a step of 3 m.

Drawing and its construction

It is impossible to make gates from pipes with your own hands without detailed development and subsequent sketching. on the plan the following data should be indicated:

  • the thickness of the pipes used;
  • dimensions of the finished structure;
  • the gap between the supporting pillars;
  • measurements of auxiliary parts that complement the overall design.

A carefully thought out drawing will simplify the calculation of the materials that will be needed during the work on creating the gate. In the future, the sketch will facilitate the implementation of construction, welding, finishing work. If automatic control is in the plans, the place where it will be located in the future is necessarily marked on the drawing. Automatic gates need a larger gap maintained between the leaves and fasteners.

Don't forget to draw

If a massive structure is to be erected, it needs a sufficient number of spacers. Gates with sheathing made of galvanized steel or metal profiles are equipped with reinforced frame elements that provide protection against sudden temperature changes and strong winds.

Preparation of materials and equipment

When the drawing is fully prepared and the necessary calculations have been made, it is the turn to purchase materials to complete the work. To assemble standard sashes you will need:

  1. metal profile. To understand which profile pipe to use for the gate, it is necessary to proceed from standard measurements. For tables, a 100 * 100 profile is usually used; for a frame structure, a pipe with a cross section of 50 * 50 is suitable.
  2. Sheathing material. The sashes are usually sealed with forged, wooden elements, profiled sheets. Less commonly, polycarbonate, mesh is used for these purposes. By combining such elements, unusual design designs are obtained.
  3. fasteners. The sashes must be firmly attached to the installed supports, for which special ready-made hinges are purchased, supplemented with self-tapping screws.
  4. Primers and paints for metal fixtures. The frame structure, made of non-galvanized raw materials, is necessarily covered with a protective layer to prevent corrosion.

When performing the described activities, it is necessary to have working equipment at hand. Standard list of tools:

  • drill;
  • welding installation together with electrodes;
  • level, tape measure, corner for accurate measurements;
  • Bulgarian;
  • brushes;
  • grinding device necessary for working with seams.

The choice of materials and tools on the market is huge. With the independent implementation of the gate for a personal plot, each person can easily purchase the necessary products.

Assembly of the structure

Gates made of metal profile are reliable. They will last a long time if no mistakes are made during installation:

  1. The purchased metal is cut with a grinder according to pre-created sketches. It is recommended to prepare material in an amount that is a couple of meters higher than preliminary calculations.
  2. The metal profile cut must be cleaned with a grinding tool. In this way, the appearing notches and chips are eliminated. Rust areas are also carefully treated. In this way, the operational life of the frame is extended, its installation is facilitated.
  3. Ground works. Under the supporting pillars, pits are preliminarily prepared. Their diameter should exceed the girth of the pipe by about 10 cm. The depth of the pit should be at least 1 m. For reinforced fastening of the supports, sand with crushed stone is placed in the dug recesses, all this is poured with concrete mortar.
  4. Carrying out welding activities. The cut metal fragments are assembled into a single product. The work is carried out from one of the corners, it involves the creation of a solid solid frame. The accuracy of the angles is determined by the level. Even the smallest distortion is unacceptable.
  5. Seams are clearly visible on the finished frame. They must be processed properly, giving the structure a finished look and protecting others from injury by sharp edges, burrs.
  6. Next, the fastener is installed. Hinges are soldered onto the frame with sashes and support pillars, onto which the finished gates are mounted.
  7. If necessary, the frame structure is painted. Before this, the working surface is cleaned and degreased.

Installation of the lock and sheathing material is permissible only after the paint layer has completely dried.

Skin selection

A finishing material is mounted on a fully designed and prepared frame. The sequence of actions directly depends on the choice of products that will act as a leaf for the sashes. In most cases, a coating is used that is similar to an already built fence, otherwise it is unlikely that a single and complete picture will be obtained.

But with the right combination of materials, you can create an unusual architectural creation. An example is a brick fence of strict classical forms with a gate and gates made of forged metal.

Win-win option - corrugated board

Metal products are the strongest and most durable. For this purpose, it is worth purchasing galvanized sheets, pre-painted. They are customizable and simply mounted on the frame. For the logical conclusion of the picture, it is worth using forged details, these can be platbands, bolts. Made in elegant forms, they always look presentable, decorating the look of an ordinary metal profile.

Wood - out of fashion and time

Practice shows that this natural material always looks win-win. Moreover, over time, its appearance only improves. However, such sheathing can deteriorate due to insufficient resistance to external factors, rotting.

The treatment of wooden structures with antiseptic solutions and impregnations will help prevent such undesirable processes. Wooden sheathing, if necessary, can be easily replaced with other finishing material for the gate.

metal finish

The prepared and installed frame is often sheathed with elegant forged elements, reinforcing bars. Using a welding machine and mastering elementary cutting skills, you can create the most unusual designs with ornate mesh patterns and smooth lines. Completeness of such a product will give a monochromatic colorful finish.

Metal finish has a number of nuances

Usually a metal profile or a tree is fixed on both sides of the gate. If one-sided sheathing is provided, the material used is fixed on the outside of the wings. Holes and screws are masked with plugs, which also prevent corrosion.

The metal profile frame is not designed for colossal loads. If the sheathing is made of profiled sheet, it should have a minimum thickness and a small wave height.

Having decided which profile pipe to make the gate from, having prepared a plan for the planned work and acquiring the necessary materials, tools, you can get to work. It is not difficult to make a structure on your own and in a short time, the main thing is to follow the step-by-step instructions and follow all the instructions.

The private estate impresses with many exterior elements, one of which is a metal gate with a gate. Gates from a profile pipe can be made independently, having experience with metal products and welding equipment. The grille trimmed with forged elements looks great. You can hide private property from prying eyes with the help of galvanized sheet. Gates can be hinged or swing type, and the design can also be automatic.

The main issues in the manufacture of gates

Each owner can be engaged in the manufacture of gates from a profile pipe. The main thing is to have the necessary tools and initial skills in handling specialized equipment. In the absence of a welding machine, you can order the manufacture of the main elements to a professional and assemble the structure yourself.

To achieve the desired result, several conditions must be met:

  • Good luck with the gate design.
  • Make a good drawing.
  • Choose the right metal.
  • Purchase the appropriate hardware.

Gates on a metal frame can be used to enter the garage and courtyard (read also: ""). The ideal option is a single execution of the entire structure. A simple but neat design will look harmonious only when different gates are similar and painted in the same color. Gates of different designs look aesthetically pleasing (some are sliding type, others are hinged), but having the same type of finish. When closed, even structurally different gates can look the same.

It is quite difficult to make a gate from a profile pipe on your own, since the process involves the transportation of metal, its cutting and welding. A separate stage is the digging of the pillars. Particular attention should be paid to the gate: it should open autonomously from the entrance gate, as it is used much more often.

Selection of profile pipes

The result of manufacturing the gate largely depends on the quality of the material and the correct choice of a profile pipe with the desired cross section. Do not make a frame for the gate from the material left over from other construction work. The result can be an overly heavy or skewed design that looks unattractive. You can use the remaining pieces for finishing or making jumpers.

Blanks from a square or rectangular profile pipe are considered the best option for the manufacture of a gate frame or other frame-type products. Such material is produced in accordance with a certain technical standard using carbon metals, galvanized or stainless steel.

Stainless steel allows you to get quite light and durable products. Metal of this type does not withstand heavy loads, but can be used as a finish for gates or wickets.

Profiled pipes are produced in several types:

  • Welded or seamless type.
  • Hot or cold rolled.

The materials of the first group are used in the manufacture of frames, supporting or frame structures, as they can withstand heavy loads.

With the independent manufacture of a swing or sliding type structure, the question arises of which profile pipe to make the gate. To do this, use inexpensive blanks:

  • Supports can be made from a 10 * 10 cm profile.
  • Profile 4 * 4 or 5 * 5 cm is perfect for making frames or frames.
  • Lintels or gratings can be made of metal rods or pipe cuts 4 * 2 cm.

Preparatory work

The gate is welded from a profile pipe in stages. First of all, it is necessary to determine what type of gate is planned to be made. They may be:

  • Openwork.
  • In the form of a grid.
  • With forging elements.
  • Sheathed with wood, corrugated board or siding.

Solid gates help to hide the inner space of the courtyard from prying eyes. If you want to show the beauty of the patio, you can make an openwork type gate with elegant forging elements.

In the absence of the necessary experience, it is not worth making complex structures; it is better to weld simple swing gates. To do this, it is enough to draw a gate from a profile pipe, with which it is easy to calculate the required amount of material and the length of individual blanks. In accordance with the drawn up drawing, a profile and a metal rod are cut. If it is planned to make a gate with automatic control, then this should also be indicated on the drawing.

Very often, gates welded from a profile pipe become part of a fence installed a little earlier (read also: ""). Having made a general sketch, you can see the final result in great detail. When choosing a ready-made gate drawing, you should combine it with your yard.

The metal purchased for the manufacture of gates from a profile pipe with your own hands is subject to mandatory verification for the presence of a defective profile. Such blanks can be used for the manufacture of short or auxiliary parts. Pipe sections that show signs of corrosion should be cleaned with sandpaper or a wire brush.

For swing gates, there is a certain rule: both parts must be symmetrical to each other. Therefore, manufacturing elements must be cut in pairs with exact dimensions. Only after that cut blanks for the gate.

Gate trim elements are prepared separately. Openwork details can be bought ready-made or ordered to a blacksmith's workshop according to an individual pattern.

To weld cut blanks, you will need a welding machine and skills to work with it. If you don't have your own equipment, you can rent it. However, it should be remembered that such a service is very expensive. Therefore, the preparatory stage should be approached very seriously so as not to pay for equipment downtime. A self-made design will cost much less than the installation of purchased finished products. In addition, there is reason to be proud of the design, assembled by hand.

Installation of supports

An important condition for this stage is the exact location of the support vertically. This will prevent the gate from tilting or opening unintentionally.

High-quality installation of rack supports will allow the structure to function for a long time and flawlessly. It is recommended to dig the pillars to a great depth, carefully concreting so that the structure does not sink into the ground under its own weight.

When installing poles, you need to monitor their verticality. When sprinkling with gravel and pouring concrete, after a small portion, you need to check the vertical. After that, the hole is completely filled with concrete.

Further actions can be started only after the concrete mortar has completely hardened. Most often, this takes about 3-5 days, but this period can be affected by air temperature and the quality of the cement composition. After making sure of the strength of the installed supports, you can proceed to the assembly of the main elements of the gate. A bench can also be made from a profile pipe, which will be a practical addition.

Direct door assembly

The main task in the process of self-assembly of the gate is the manufacture of a reliable frame.

The overall aesthetics is determined by the accuracy of the markings and the observance of equal gaps between the metal elements. The second aspect can be called neat frame welding seams, treated from burrs and not having rough sags. This will enable the safe operation of both the gate and the gate.

Work on welding equipment is carried out outdoors with uninterrupted power supply. At the same time, it is important to observe safety precautions, namely, to weld parts in protective clothing and a mask. It is recommended that the welding site be cleared of easily flammable objects to prevent ignition from a trapped spark or scale.

After the frame is made, you can start welding small structural elements. The hinges for fastening the gate must be welded to the posts with high quality to ensure the perfect and reliable operation of the entire structure. The gate leaves and the gate are hung on the welded hinges.

At the final stage, the metal is treated with various protective agents.

The manufacture of sliding or sliding gates is carried out in a similar way, only it is worth considering the installation of guides and rollers for the movement of the leaves.

Today, in many backyard suburban areas, you can see gates made from a profile pipe. Usually, many owners of country houses try to make their own gates that will meet their requirements and parameters. Let's see how you can make a reliable gate with your own hands, and what tools will be needed for this.

Profile pipe for gate device - pros and cons

The profile pipe has several types of section: rectangular, square, round and oval, and can also have different parameters and is usually used for the manufacture of durable frames for various types of gates. The pipe can be made of durable steel:

  • carbon;
  • Stainless;
  • Galvanized.

Basically, for the manufacture of swing or sliding gates, durable carbon or galvanized steel is used. Stainless steel is a lighter material and therefore will not be able to withstand too much weight.

The profile pipe differs in the production method:

  1. Welded hot-rolled steel is designed for the manufacture of welded structures that do not require strong and heavy loads.
  2. Welded cold rolled pipe is commonly used in everyday life for the manufacture of various frames.
  3. A seamless pipe is more reliable and of high quality, since the weakest point of all welded products is considered to be a large and rough seam. Such pipes are very flexible and resistant to high vertical pressure. Therefore, it is often used for gate devices.

For the device of strong and reliable swing or sliding gates, an inexpensive hot-rolled pipe is perfect. Their design is quite simple and includes only the frame and sashes. It is the frame that is made of a durable pipe. Country gates can be ordinary hinged, suspended or retractable, and regardless of their type, they can be equipped with a modern automatic system for remote opening and closing of the structure with a control panel. Such gates will look great on a personal plot and reliably protect the yard from prying eyes.

Almost every owner of the house will be able to independently make a gate from a profile pipe if he knows how to use welding, a grinder, a drill, and also knows how to draw up drawings. Also, the guarantee of a reliable gate will be a high-quality profile pipe and fittings.

A steel pipe is best suited for country gates, as it provides for less material consumption, which significantly reduces the cost of the entire gate structure.

Sheathing is made of materials such as:

Preparation for construction: how to calculate the dimensions of the future structure

Swing gates, despite their simplicity, also require certain calculations.

The main thing is to choose the right profile pipes of the desired section. Some craftsmen do it wrong and create a frame from the remnants of metal (pipes). As a result, the gates are heavy and very skewed. They will look unpresentable, and they will not close well.

Of the remnants, it is recommended to make only trim, lintels and molding. Square or rectangular section is the most profitable option for making lintels on the gate. Usually, a seamless carbon steel pipe of various grades is used. Less commonly used galvanized or stainless steel. Stainless steel is quite expensive, so the gate from it will be very expensive. But it is quite possible to make a gate out of it. Solid or seamless pipes can easily withstand heavy loads, so frame, strong support posts and frame structures are best made from this material.

Material calculation and tools for work

Swinging country gates are quite light in device, so an inexpensive but durable steel pipe is suitable for them.

Several types of gates can be made from a profiled pipe:

  • Openwork;
  • Latticed;
  • Forged;
  • Covered with profiled sheet;
  • With wood paneling.

If you still have very little experience in welding, then it is best to make swing gates from a reliable metal profile pipe and a steel bar. Accurate calculations are necessary in order to acquire the required amount of the required material. If you want to install modern automatic control, then it must also be included in the costs.

The design should be comfortable enough for daily use of the machine. It is recommended to make a minimum opening of at least 3 meters so that a passenger car or even a utility vehicle can easily go outside and drive back. The height of the gate frame must be at least 1.6 meters, but usually homeowners prefer to make gates, as well as a fence of at least 2 meters. The width of the gate should also be optimal so that a person of any build can freely pass through it. It can be a gate with a width of 0.75 to 1 meter.

For the manufacture of country gates, we need:

  • Loops (powerful);
  • Decorative forging elements;
  • Strong lock;
  • Primer for metal;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • Dye;
  • Cement, sand, rubble stone.
  • Welding machine;

Instructions for the manufacture of various types of gates

Swing gates for a country house

After the scale drawing is fully drawn up and all the necessary material has been purchased, we proceed to the next stages of work.

  1. We prepare materials and pipes for further processing. If you purchased not new profile pipes, then they must be thoroughly cleaned of corrosion and scale with the help of a grinder and a special grinding wheel. You can also take ordinary coarse-grained sandpaper, but it will take a very long time to work. New pipes will just need to be well degreased with a common solvent.
  2. Then there is a complete marking and further cutting of pipes and metal. In order to make the design correctly, it is necessary to cut pipes with a large cross section evenly (of the same size) in pairs. Such actions must be performed in order for the future welded structure to be symmetrical, as well as to exclude uneven and incorrect profile cutting.
  3. To install the supports, it is necessary to dig 2 deep holes about 1 meter deep and 50x50 cm in size. The cement hardening time is about 7 days at an optimum temperature of +25C.
  4. We weld all cut profile pipes into a single frame. When welding pipes, it is necessary to check the evenness of the welding of the corners of the structure with a corner all the time, otherwise the gate will turn out to be skewed. After welding is completed, all seams must be well sanded. For an even location of the profile, you can use a special table or any flat surface.
  5. After the frame is ready, you can begin to weld the hinges. In order for them to be welded correctly, this work is best done with an assistant. First, they are welded to the supports, and then to the frame itself. Protective equipment must be used during welding.
  6. As a frame sheathing, you can use colored corrugated board, durable polycarbonate, metal or wood. The profiled sheet can be mounted both outside the frame and inside it. The sheets are arranged depending on the wishes of the owner of the house. They can be screwed with screws or attached with rivets.
  7. Typically, the rolled sheet is welded to the frame and transverse stiffeners. Since iron sheets are quite heavy, they must be welded. Such swing gates will be very strong, but at the same time very bulky and heavy. This must be taken into account even when buying loops, otherwise they simply will not withstand the load.
  8. Wood paneling is much worse than rolled or profiled sheet, as it is less durable. In order to screw the boards to the frame, it is necessary to make special holes in it. You can use self-tapping screws or special screws.

Sliding gates

More recently, sliding country gates were a rarity, since an automatic mechanism was quite expensive, and not every homeowner could afford to purchase it.

  1. Today, the range has expanded enough and now you can buy an inexpensive and fairly good system. Some craftsmen make some simple elements and parts of mechanisms themselves, but it’s best to play it safe and just buy the whole set of factory-made automatic systems, as it will be much better than a home-made one and is designed for the maximum weight of the structure.
  2. Such gates have a high degree of wear resistance. They can also be sheathed with any durable modern materials. Naturally, the price of the necessary pipes and additional materials for the installation of sliding gates will be much higher than swing gates, but they are more durable and reliable.
  3. The design of complex sliding gates is welded almost exactly the same as swing gates. First you need to weld a rectangular frame from cut profile pipes of the desired size. Depending on the sliding mechanism, the gate can be cantilevered, suspended or rail.
  4. The suspended structure significantly limits the entry and exit of vehicles in its height, since it is made of an internal and external frame, several lintels and a special crate. Roller retractable mechanisms are installed on it.
  5. Rail gates do not interfere with the car at the entrance. They are much cheaper than hanging ones, since much fewer parts are required to create them.
  6. Retractable cantilever structures are considered the most convenient to use. First you need to install the rail, and then attach or weld the rollers at the bottom of the frame and one retractable roller at the top to facilitate the rollback of the gate.
  7. To install such gates, a special place is required, which is 0.5 times larger than the size of the structure itself and will serve to install roller elements and determine the path of the entire guide system.
  8. For the operation of the retractable system, it is necessary to prepare a reliable foundation well and make the frame exactly according to the drawn up drawing. The frame of such gates differs from traditional swing gates, therefore, their manufacture and arrangement must be approached very carefully. It is also very important to make reliable support pillars and for this it is recommended to use a profile pipe with a large section of 100x100 mm or a strong channel. For reliability, the pillars can be overlaid with a special brick.
  9. The movement of the retractable system is carried out due to the guide system, firmly welded or screwed from the bottom of the door frame, moving along special rollers, which must be securely fixed on the prepared foundation.
  10. Since they are located inside this guide, all parts of the fittings are reliably protected from the penetration of various precipitation, dirt and dust into them. Also, if necessary, a convenient gate can be made in such gates and it is necessary to provide for its dimensions at the stage of drawing creation.
  11. In principle, any finishing material can be used as a sheathing, but in this case it must be remembered that decorative forged convex decor elements can make full-fledged operation of sliding gates simply impossible.
  • To protect pipes from corrosion, they must be well treated with a special high-quality primer. Then you can start painting the frame itself.
  • Profiled and corrugated sheet is sold already painted, so it does not require additional processing.
  • When upholstering the frame with wood, it is necessary to treat the boards with an anti-fungal agent and then open them with varnish or paint. Such processing will significantly increase the service life of the material.

Forging elements - how to make

Forging elements can easily decorate the gate. To do this, you can independently make decorative elements (monograms, curlicues, and others) using a welding machine or a blowtorch, and then carefully weld them to the metal sheathing of the gate.

Or you can simply purchase finished forged products in a specialized company or at a forge. There, professional craftsmen will make any kind of patterns according to your sketch and the gate will acquire its own individuality.

Whatever type of gate you choose, the main thing is that they fully meet your requirements and be made according to correct and clear drawings. If you are a novice master, then it is best to opt for swing gates, which are easy to manufacture and quite reliable. Sliding gates have a more complex design, so in order to make them you have to try hard.
