Wood adhesives are very popular in furniture making and joinery. The masters consider the Titebond glue (Titebond) to be a quality tool, or rather, its whole line, produced under this brand. The manufacturer - the American company Franklin International - monitors the quality of products, and also guarantees the highest moisture resistance of the compositions among analogues.

Varieties and scope of application of glue

Titebond wood adhesives are high quality joinery for professional and home use. They have a different basis depending on the specific purpose: artificial rubber, polyurethane, aliphatic resins. The products also contain polymers, protein compounds, water, various modifiers and plasticizers.

In total, there are 25 types of adhesives in the Titbond line, but in the domestic and European markets the most common universal one-component products with strong water-repellent properties. Their technical characteristics are unique: if the substrate is properly prepared and the instructions are followed, the glue line will be practically unaffected by moisture. Most adhesives can be used for the following purposes:

  • laying parquet boards at home, in offices;
  • restoration of old wooden coverings;
  • Furniture assembly;
  • gluing wood and plastic parts;
  • production of plywood products;
  • various renovation works.

Depending on the specific type of waterproof glue, its properties and purpose may be different. The main types of adhesives "Titebond":

  1. Original Wood Glue. Glue with a red label is used for repair, restoration of musical instruments, in the production of similar products. After drying, it forms a hard, low-plastic seam that does not interfere with normal sounding, does not change the properties of the wood.

  1. Titebond II Premium. This product has a blue sticker, it is also moisture resistant, while not being affected by solvents. The glue line will be quite elastic, the initial grip will be more powerful. Due to its environmental friendliness, the glue can be used for gluing wooden cutting boards and other products that are in indirect contact with food. Also, glue number 2 is used to repair room, garden and other outdoor furniture, mailboxes, veneer, laminate, plywood, fiberboard, chipboard. It is packed in bottles, cans, buckets and even barrels with a volume of 0.037-100 liters.

  1. Titebond III Ultimate. Glue "Titbond 3" with a green sticker is produced on a water basis, has an opaque consistency, cream color. All polymers in the composition are harmless to health, therefore the product is well suited for products in contact with food. Most often, the glue is used in the food industry, but it can also be used for repair, restoration of plywood, veneer, other types of wood surfaces, as well as plastic. It is suitable for outdoor and indoor use, but not suitable for products placed in water.

  1. Titebond Heavy. It is a super strong assembly adhesive, available in a yellow tube. It contains artificial rubber, due to which it does not harm any type of wood, it can even be used for gluing wet, frozen wood. The finished glue seam is elastic, not subject to destruction, flexible, does not deteriorate from mechanical stress. In addition to wood, this glue is suitable for gluing ceramics, slate, organic glass, natural and artificial stone, fiberglass, concrete, ceramic parts.

Adhesive characteristics

Despite the possibility of professional use, the products of the series do not require special skills or knowledge during application. They are easy to use, it is only important to carefully read the instructions. An ordinary tool, including metal, is suitable for work, glue does not stick to metal, and all fixtures can be easily cleaned.

The main property that distinguishes Titebond adhesives from PVA and liquid nails is their high moisture resistance that meets American standards.

Other properties and technical parameters of Titebond adhesives:

  1. After hardening, all adhesives become transparent, despite the initial dull consistency. They can even be applied to delicate items.
  2. Means are resistant to freezing, after drying, the seam will withstand temperatures down to -35 degrees. Also, glued bases can be heated up to +40 degrees, but at +100 the seam area can catch fire.
  3. The bond strength will be very high, much higher than the wood itself. This ensures the durability of the glued products. The seam is resistant not only to the action of water, but also to the influence of solvents and acoustic vibrations.

  1. Adhesives are universal, they are suitable for all types of wood, as well as other compositions based on wood, combined materials, many types of plastics. Also, the means can effectively fasten paper, cardboard. Elastic compounds are suitable for use as sealants.
  2. All errors in work - stains, drips - can be washed off with water until complete solidification. This is very convenient for adjusting the glue line.
  3. The polymerization of the composition is fast (10-20 minutes), but still not instantaneous, and it is quite possible to correct the position of the parts. As the humidity rises and the temperature drops, polymerization may slow down. You can not work with the composition at temperatures less than + 10-12 degrees.
  4. It is not required to subject parts to strong compression, installation under a press. They will stick together even with a moderate degree of fixation, the adhesion will not decrease.

The most popular adhesives of the Titbond brand have a dry residue of 48%, their viscosity is 4000 mPa / s, and their acidity is 3 pH. Material consumption is 180 g / sq. see After opening, each product remains suitable for a long time (up to 2 years) if stored at a temperature of about +20 degrees. It is undesirable to apply the composition on painted surfaces, use it in rooms with too high humidity, poor ventilation.

Instructions for use

You can start working with the product only at freezing temperatures indoors or outside buildings. For all types of adhesives, preliminary surface preparation is very important: in the presence of dust, sawdust, and other contaminants, the degree of adhesion may decrease. In addition to such contaminants, grease, oil stains, and old paint should be removed. For this purpose, the following methods are used:

  • grinding with a special machine, sandpaper;
  • the use of a scraper;
  • rinsing with household or professional detergents;
  • wiping with degreasers, solvents.

Before work, the glue is thoroughly mixed, applied to both parts, and pressed well. It is not necessary to use a press, but it is necessary to exclude possible movement of the products. Drying time is 10-20 minutes, during this period you can remove the glue that has come out with a rag, napkin or change the positions of the parts.

Work should only be done in a well-ventilated area. Due to the environmental friendliness of the composition, it is possible not to use special respiratory protection, but for allergy sufferers, people with hypersensitivity and lung diseases, masks (respirators) are required. If dizziness is observed, you should immediately leave work and go out into fresh air. If the glue gets on the skin, wash it well with soap, otherwise there is a risk of irritation and redness. When the product gets into the eyes, they are washed well (at least 10 minutes), if necessary, consult a doctor.

Titebond glue is one of the highest quality and most convenient products that does not need to be diluted, but can be used ready-made. It has the highest moisture resistance among similar compositions, it is economical, therefore it is most often used by professionals.

When carpentry work, a tool is often needed that allows you to connect parts without nails and self-tapping screws. This is glue Titebond, in the production of which a different basis is used: the components can be proteins, polymers, synthetic rubbers, polyurethanes, aliphatic resin.

Varieties

There are several types of Titebond adhesives:

  • Original Wood Glue Titebond (red sticker). After drying, it becomes hard, non-plastic. Designed specifically for the repair or manufacture of musical instruments and does not spoil the sound of wood.

  • Titebond II Premium (with a blue sticker on the package) is moisture resistant, not sensitive to the effects of solvents, therefore, with their help, it will not be possible to return the liquid consistency to the cured glue. Forms a more elastic seam than Original Wood Glue... The composition is perfect for repairing garden or outdoor furniture, mailboxes, as it has a strong initial adhesion and quickly becomes hard. The result is a strong bond that allows indirect contact with food (for example, you can glue a cutting board). The adhesive meets the requirements of ASTM D-4235. Since it is very widely used, Titebond II Premium packaged in a variety of containers, for example, in small 37 ml bottles and in large containers up to one thousand liters.

  • Titebond III (green label on bottle) is a water-based, cream-colored adhesive used for bonding food contact surfaces. The composition is based on a polymer, without solvents.

  • Titebond Heavy Duty - the strongest of the entire presented line, with its help brick, concrete, fiberglass, slate, ceramics, hardboard, decorative stone are glued. The main component is synthetic rubber. Heavy duty effective even when joining surfaces of damp and frozen wood, while forming a flexible seam that can withstand mechanical stress.
