In modern projects of houses and apartments, a bedroom less than 15 meters or a living room less than 25-30 meters is considered small. Numerous interior design magazines, being mostly translated, also often discourage readers with such "measures", and many still huddle in small apartments with bedrooms less than 10 and living rooms less than 20 meters, and consider them normal. And even if they do not consider it, they still have to live in such conditions. However, which room is considered small is an ambiguous question. Here you can use the principle: if there is not enough space, then something needs to be changed. And if changing an apartment is an unrealistic option for the majority, then it is worth playing in the field of design. The rules are quite simple.
Color: big palette for a small room
A combination of two or three colors is considered optimal for a small room. The first color (the lightest) is called the base color. This is the main tone of the walls, ceiling. It doesn't have to be white. For a well-lit room, cool pastel shades, emerald, are suitable. For a dark room, it is better to choose warm and neutral shades: pale yellow, beige, pink.
Attention! Some colors are cool and neutral or warm and neutral. You cannot combine them with each other. For example, you can't paint one wall light emerald (cold neutral) and the other pea (warm neutral). The same color principle applies when choosing the color of all other elements, furniture and textiles.
The second color is optional. It can be either a brighter shade of the base background, or a color that is moderately contrasting with it. One of the walls or part of it can be painted with such paint. In this design, large furniture and other significant interior details will look good. The third color is the brightest. It can be a dark accent (up to black) or a very bright one, which is reflected in small details: photo frames or paintings, rugs and other small things. Oddly enough, they are the most capricious elements in the design of the room. With bright details, it is very easy to overdo it or place it incorrectly. You can adopt the main principle: large elements are far and deep in the room, small ones are on the side, at the entrance.
Light games
What can be done to visually enlarge the space of a room with the help of light?
- install as much as possible. A niche, arranged in the form of a soft corner on the windowsill, is an excellent idea for a compact living room;
- use: if you hang it opposite the window, then the amount of light will double, and just mirrored shelves or cabinet doors will also create a good spatial illusion;
- zonal lighting: battle with large bulky in the middle of the room, yes - spotlights above the sofa or armchair, above the bookshelves or at the head of the bed;
- spotlights arranged in a row not only highlight one or another zone with light, they visually lengthen the room - this can also be used;
- modern laconic design of fixtures and lamps instead of pompous deliberate chandeliers - what you need for a compact room;
- glass furniture and objects: depending on the functional purpose of a small room, it is quite possible to replace traditional wooden doors with glass ones and even use transparent partitions.

It is unacceptable to make a multi-level ceiling in a small room or paint it in dark colors that absorb light. Optimum - white or the lightest colors, a flat surface. Contrasting edgings at the junction of the walls and the shelf should also be abandoned.

A sofa that converts into a sleeping place, always with a box for storing linen - that's what you need. 3) Simplicity. No monograms, carvings, excessive curvature and lush decorations. Furniture should be as simple as possible (but not necessarily ordinary) form. Playing with color is allowed. A sofa or chairs may well be contrasting, but not so much as to attract all the attention. In any case, it is better to place bright furniture in the back of the room, away from the entrance.
4) - an excellent replacement for chairs. Hospitality in the house is above all, even if the house is, well, a very compact apartment. And here, a great solution would be to use the idea from the East, when pillows and soft carpets replace decomposed sofas and chairs. Surely dear guests will not remain indifferent after the mysterious tea ceremony on pillows around a nice tray instead of a table.
Dense covers of original colors, knitted patterned inserts on pillows will bring their zest and originality to the interior of a small room. Fluffy tassels, funny pom-poms or just cute bows made of satin fabric can serve as an additional decoration of covers. But where to hide such pillows? One way or another, they will need very little space, unlike chairs. Alternatively, you can fix them on the chairs with decorative ribbons or lay them out on the sofa. The first and most important rule is to focus on the gender, character and passions (hobbies) of the owner. It is unlikely that the personal room of an athlete guy will be similar in design to the bedroom of a woman leading a secular lifestyle.

Bathroom
It all depends primarily on the size. If the bathroom is very small, the competent arrangement of the elements necessary in it comes to the fore. Make the most of every square centimeter.
