Lefranc & Bourgeois "Vitrail" series

With the help of these paints, you can imitate all the charm of a real stained glass window. The special formula achieves incomparable color, transparency, and an impression of radiance and haze resistance. The paints are ideal for decorating glass, plastic, acetate and decorative ceramics.

L&B's Vitrail Colors for glass line is based on a completely new formula, bringing you the best of professional-grade glass paints.

The solvent base of this product guarantees a "glass-smooth" end result. Water-based products do not adhere as smoothly to the surface as solvent-based paints and therefore cannot offer the final smoothness and gloss that can be achieved with Lefranc & Bourgeois

The new formula provides an increased level of transparency for maximum gloss on glass.

Special attention has been paid to the saturation and richness of color, which recreates the effect of genuine colored glass.

Vitrail adheres well to non-porous surfaces such as glass, tiles and metal. However, the paints are not resistant to strong cleaning agents (dishes or sanitary ware).

Lightfastness (resistance to fading) is enhanced across the entire product line. For maximum light fastness, direct sunlight should be avoided.

For decorative purposes only! (exclude contact with food and exposure to high temperatures).

INSTRUCTIONS : glass painting with Vitrail paints

STEP 1: SURFACE PREPARATION

1. Clean the surface with methyl alcohol to remove dirt and allow to dry.

2. On porous surfaces (wood, plaster), first apply a universal primer

STEP 2: APPLYING THE CIRCUIT

(optional, to achieve the effect of colored glass)

NOTE: Line paints are water based.

  1. For best results, use a template. You can apply the template to the surface using water markers. Use a Gold Cern yellow marker or a Silver, Gray, or Black Cern gray marker. Alternatively, when working on glass, place the template under the material.
  2. Hold the tube like a pen, gently touching the surface with the spout. Apply the contour using even pressure on the tube. Dry for 1 hour. Erase the felt-tip pen if necessary.

STEP 3: APPLY VITRAIL

  1. If done with Cern, use a synthetic brush such as L&B Multi-Craft Round # 4. Take a small drop of paint on the brush and apply it to the surface, staying within the outline. It is not recommended to apply too thin or too thick a layer, since in the first case the paint does not adhere well, and in the second the paint can get onto neighboring areas.
  2. When applying Vitrail to a plain surface with no contour, there are many application techniques. Try to apply paint in even strokes using straight or round brushes.
  3. DRYING: 12 hours after each coat, 3 days before using or washing the object. Air dry in a clean and dry environment.

MIXING Vitrail: All Vitrail Colors can be mixed with each other. For lighter, translucent colors, mix the paint with Colorless Vitrail to dilute the pigment (eg red + clear = pink). For duller colors, add some gray paint. For a marbling effect, move the paints around.

CLEANING / MAINTENANCE: Inaccuracies and errors can be corrected immediately with white spirit. Wash brushes and other materials also with mineral spirits. Painted items should be washed gently with warm water and a sponge. Dry immediately.

Do not immerse painted objects in water.

Transparent water-based paint for glass. The paints can be mixed with each other. Shake (stir) well before use. Before applying Vitrea 160 paint, you just need to degrease the surface with alcohol or soapy water. Thinner can be used to make paints thinner without loss of quality. Do not dilute with water in order to avoid changes in technical characteristics. Leave the finished product to dry for at least 24 hours, place in a cold oven, then heat it to 160 ° C / 325 ° F and leave in the oven for 40 minutes. Then you need to open the oven door and wait until it cools completely. Only then can the product be removed. After firing, the paints are dishwasher resistant and resistant to cleaning agents and common solvents. When dried for a week, the paint is resistant to water even without baking in the oven. You can use a protective varnish over dry paint.

A palette of 20 glossy colors, 10 matte colors.

The paint can be used on any smooth surface like glass, porcelain, ceramics, as well as metals and plastics. Non toxic. Shake the bottle well before use. Use Surface Cleaner for Glass and Porcelain before painting, or 90 ° alcohol. Leave the work to dry for 3 days. If the product cannot be baked in the oven, then the topcoat can be used after it is completely dry. The paint is dishwasher resistant after baking in the oven for 30 minutes at 150 ° C. Do not use paint on surfaces in direct food contact. Do not mix paint with turpentine and other organic solvents or oil paints. Wash your brushes with water after work. If you need an even flow within the boundaries of the contour, add a small amount of boiled water to the paint. It is better to mix paints with water and among themselves in liquid form in a cuvette, and not on a working surface.

20 opaque colors, 20 transparent colors, 4 glitters and 6 matte colors.

ContoursLefranwithandBourgeois« Cern" OutlinerGlass& amp; Tile "- 3 colors: gold, silver and black.

Finish topcoat:

The paints are thinner than Pebeo "Vitrea 160".

" Marabu "Decorglas"

Water-based stained glass paint. Transparent, ideally glossy, ready-to-use paint for painting and finishing glass, acrylic, ceramics, porcelain, metal foil, wood, cardboard, etc. It has good light fastness, dries up after 30 minutes, followed by firing in an oven at a temperature of 150g. Resistant to abrasion and weather conditions, but cannot be used in dishwashers. Color tones are suitable for mixing with each other, have good light fastness, can be diluted with water.

Until the paints are dry, they are opaque. Clarity builds up as it dries. This is not always convenient. After drying, the paints sometimes move away from the contour, leaving gaps. So then you have to go through all these gaps again, which is not very convenient if the colors were mixed - it is rather difficult to catch the same color.

Color palette:

Contours for the Marabu "Decorglas" series: "Marabu-Outlinerpaste"

An outline for drawing lines and preventing color fusion. The contour can also be applied to ceramics, porcelain, terracotta, plastic, wood and many other materials. A palette of 5 colors. The conventional name "ceramics" is usually understood as decorative and household items made of porcelain, stoneware and faience. It is customary to paint interior items with special paints. Artists paint not only porcelain dishes, but also cups, teapots, teapots, as well as glass glasses and bottles of unusual shapes.

for glass and ceramics

The coverage may vary. Some paints are applied to a "green" unbaked product and then subjected to heat treatment, this type can be attributed to cobalt paint. When applied to a product, it has a gray color, but after the oven it acquires the famous blue overflow of Gzhel.

However, there are many more non-fired ceramic paints on the market. They are applied to the finished product and allowed to dry. This group includes glass and ceramics. They have a rich palette, various packaging and it is very convenient to work with such a coating.

In shops for creativity, there is a huge selection of both paints for ceramics themselves and manufacturers. You can buy ready-made sets of 6-10 bottles of different colors, or you can choose the colors you need yourself.

The purpose and type of the finished product are of great importance. A craftsman who makes items for sale will give preference to quality; parents who decide to work out with their children are more likely to choose a ready-made inexpensive set for creativity. To create stained-glass windows, you will need special translucent water-based paints and the so-called contour. It is better to purchase the latter not universal, but special for working with glass and ceramics. Some paints cannot be applied to items that are used for serving food, others are completely unstable to water and detergents. It is worth carefully studying the annotation before buying paint or consulting the store's sellers.

Attention! Inexpensive acrylic paints can be washed off with water without firing, while expensive ones can be easily scratched with a knife or fork. Therefore, for painting everyday dishes, it is better to use coatings that require heat treatment.

Foreign manufacturers of acrylic paints

Italian paints IDEA Vetro for painting stained-glass windows are completely unstable to external influences and cannot be used for food purposes. They do not need to be fired and are organic.

Professional paints Kreul Hobby Line, made in Germany, are very resistant and have a rich palette of colors. After painting, the product must be kept in the oven for 90 minutes at a temperature of 160 degrees.

Professional Hobby deLUXE is a great choice for items for sale. Although the series is versatile, it is ideal for ceramic and glass work. The paints do not require heat treatment and are resistant to abrasion and water. However, you cannot use them for everyday dishes, the coated jars themselves are quite large and cost more than their counterparts, and the palette consists only of delicate pastel colors.

Domestic manufacturers of acrylic paints

Among the Russian manufacturers are Olki, Gamma and Decola paints for ceramics and glass. All of them do not require firing and are not very abrasion resistant. Olki series products can rarely be found on sale, the paints themselves are practically nothing different from universal acrylic paints. "Gamma" coatings have a too liquid consistency and are inconvenient to work with, and the color palette is meager, dull and inexpressive.

Perhaps, from domestic products, the choice of "Decola" paint for glass and ceramics will be optimal in terms of price-quality ratio. creates coatings of bright and rich colors. Paints for ceramics are waterproof and subject only to external mechanical influences, which means they are suitable for decorative purposes. The line includes ready-made sets and stained glass coverings. Decola paints for ceramics and glass are presented in two versions: matte and metallic, the same applies to the manufacturer's contours.

Paints for ceramics and glass

Special coatings are necessary for working with porcelain and faience, ceramics and glass. Universal paints cannot always adhere to smooth and even surfaces of materials.

You can purchase a ready-made set with basic colors and mix them on a palette, achieving the desired shade. But if the master's skills and experience in mixing paints are not great, the colors should be acquired separately. The "Decola" palette is very diverse, it contains delicate pastel tones, the usual matte, coatings with a gloss "metallic" and bright juicy colors.

Special colorless protective varnishes can preserve the brightness of paints and patterns. When buying, you need to find out if the coating is acceptable for food purposes. But even if it was not possible to find a special one, the product can still be put on the table, only it should be used rarely and carefully.

Contours for glass and ceramics

This type of material can be used alone or in combination with other paints.

The contour is indispensable for working on glass and creating stained-glass windows. You can also purchase them as part of a set or separately. The substances contained in the contours adhere well the pigment to the smooth surface. Stroke delineates the borders of the drawing and prevents paint from flowing over the surface. The most beautiful and unusual works are obtained when colors and contours are combined in creativity.

It is very easy to use the coating in your work. First you need to come up with a design and find a suitable item. Then take a tube of the contour and carefully transfer the drawing, being careful not to touch the lines with your hand or fingers. It only takes a little practice in the force of pressing to get the line of the desired thickness.

Stained glass paints

Glass painting has its own nuances. As a rule, it is required to maintain the transparency of the material even after application of paints. The light passing through the stained-glass windows is colored and, falling on objects, creates fabulous patterns around.

Stained glass paints are made translucent, since they must transmit light. To apply them, the glass surface must be degreased, this condition applies to other materials. You can purchase a solvent in the kit for the coating; you will need it when making changes to an already applied pattern or correcting errors. The finished work can be dried for 3 hours or fired at a temperature of 100 degrees, but no more than 30 minutes.

Stained glass paints and contour are simply made for each other and always go together. By combining both coatings, you can easily and simply create unique things. You need to draw the design of the picture and place it behind the glass, and simply transfer it to the surface with the outline. Stained glass paints are fluid enough and will easily fill the voids between the boundary lines.

The modern market for goods for creativity is ready to offer not only paints, but also a whole sea of related materials. For example, removable metal tips for contours, stencils for stained glass, felt-tip pens for ceramics and pencils-gels that, after drying, simulate glass.

Spot-painting ceramics

There are many techniques for painting ceramics and glass. Masters find themselves in 2-3 types of work, study all the subtleties of materials, coatings and successfully work with them, combining and combining the experience gained.

Dot painting is very popular in the painting of dishes and plates. On the already processed and painted ceramics, a pattern is applied - dots using colored outlines. Finished products are eye-catching, it is impossible to walk past them and remain indifferent.

Although the writing style is reminiscent of Arabic culture, it is impossible to say where the technique was invented. Similar paintings are found both in Africa and in India. The items will be reminiscent of the culture of the country, the characteristic elements of which have been chosen for the design of the pattern.

Animalism in painting

Plants and animals are often the subject of paintings for ceramics and glass.

Undoubtedly, such wonderful plates will delight both children and adults. Children can work with paints and try to paint a mug or dish themselves. The child will be proud and happy to have breakfast made from homemade dishes.

Working with special markers and gel pencils is much easier than using paints. If the drawing is erased, it can be easily updated or corrected. And although many people think that the felt-tip pen is too simple and boring, with the imagination, you can create beautiful things with limited means.

Minimalism in ceramics and glass painting

Even if the master does not have the skills of art painting or drawing by hand is not his vocation, the modern pursuit of minimalism in art will hide these shortcomings.

Unique things can be done using ready-made stencils. The main thing is to correctly beat the color and shape of the object. One simple but neatly executed pattern can attract more attention than a gaudyly painted oversized dish.

When a person has a desire to create and create, do not limit yourself to far-fetched reasons. The main thing in this business is to start, and skills and abilities will come with experience!

Polymer paints

Polymer paints are not often used for painting tiles.

Do you want to update the tiles in the bathroom or in the kitchen, but there are not enough funds for a thorough renovation? There is a way out - paint the tile or paint it.

The pattern can also be applied to new tiles before installation, if you have not found anything suitable for sale. Self-creation of decor will give a unique look to your interior.

Ceramic tile painting and painting are different concepts. When painting, the tiles are painted over completely, the painting allows you to create an interesting decor. But both methods complement each other well.

How to choose paint for ceramic tiles

When preparing for work, it is important to know which paint is suitable for ceramic tiles.

The tiles are fully painted with latex, epoxy, oil paints.

Paints for ceramic tiles are used for painting. The price of such paints is too high to paint the entire wall. On sale they are presented as paints for glass and ceramics. The advantage of such paints is that they are applied on a smooth surface - no preliminary sanding of the wall is required.

Painting ceramic tiles

It is difficult to paint a bathroom completely. It takes a lot of time to prepare the tile surface for painting.

Do not paint areas that are constantly exposed to water - over time, the paint will begin to peel off. For such places, painting tiles in fragments is better. If some of the paint peels off over time, it will not be so noticeable. The paint on the floor tiles will not last long. Paint the floor tiles around the perimeter - in places that are not exposed to heavy stress.

Tools and materials

  • Dish sponges - metal and regular
  • Degreasing liquid and abrasive detergents
  • Respirator, gloves
  • Sanding mesh, fine sandpaper
  • Brushes, foam roller
  • Paint tray
  • Primer, paint
  • Masking tape, stencils

Operating procedure

Tile cleaning

Clean the tiles with degreasing agents. Using a metal dish sponge and Pemolux, go over the entire surface. Pemolux and a hard sponge will remove dirt and lightly sand the tiles. If you have sand at hand, sprinkle it directly on the sponge and scrub the tile with effort. Abrasive cleaners and sand will remove dirt and damage the glazed layer of the tile. This is required to proceed to the second stage.

Grinding

The paint will not last long on a smooth tile surface. In order for the paint to last for a long time, you need to remove the top layer of the tile. Use fine sandpaper or a knife sharpening block. Rub the tile surface well.

The grinder will speed up the work process. When removing the top layer from a tile with a sander, a lot of abrasive dust is generated. Remember to wear a respirator mask. You need to achieve a roughened surface.

Sand the tile joints with a sanding mesh. Wrap the rubber spatula with a net. It is convenient to clean the seams with the edge of the trowel.

Primer

Before priming the tiles, rinse the surface with water. There should be no dust on the tiles. If this is not done, uneven roughness may appear when priming. Prime with a brush. Make sure there are no drips. It is best to use an epoxy primer.

After the primer has dried, lightly sand the tile again with fine sandpaper or a sanding mesh.

Coloration

It should be painted with a foam sponge or foam roller. It is easier and faster to apply paint with a roller, but streaks may remain if you roll it poorly. The paint is applied in a thin layer. Squeeze the roller well in the tray. For high-quality painting, two or three layers of paint are required. Observe the drying time for each layer.

Use masking tape for multiple colors. Apply base color. Wait for the paint to dry. Apply tape or stencil to the tiles. Paint the places you want with a different color. Apply the paint over the stencil with a foam sponge.

The use of masking tape or electrical tape allows you to create simple geometric patterns.

Varnish application

Apply varnish to the dried tile. The varnish will add shine and create an additional film to protect the paint. Glossy parquet lacquer or water-based lacquers will do.

What paints are used when painting tiles completely

For full surface painting, oil paints, epoxy, latex are suitable.

It is more convenient to work with latex paints. They dry quickly, have good hiding power, lie flat on the surface.

Tikkurila Luja is an acrylate latex paint. Suitable for wet rooms. Resistant to wear and tear and frequent washing.

How to properly use ceramic tile paint

For painting tiles, paints are used on tiles and glass.

The paints dry at room temperature. No firing required. This allows paint to be applied to a wall tiled with ceramic tiles. For white tiles, the paint can be diluted with a special solvent, which will give the paint transparency. A drawing applied with diluted paint will look especially delicate.

In appearance, the paint for ceramic tiles resembles thick sour cream.
Do not dilute acrylic paints for ceramics with water - this violates the resistance of the coating to washing. The painted surface requires drying for three days.

Rinse the tile well, dry it. When applying paint on vertical surfaces, it is not necessary to dilute it. Although the paint dries quickly, sagging may occur. To prevent the paint from spreading and mixing different colors, use an outline. The contour is a special paint from the same company. Sold in 18mg tubes. The contour is applied from the tube.

The photo shows the decor on the tiles, made using the outline.

After the outline is dry, start coloring your drawing. The paint settles, so it needs to be mixed well. You can draw paint on a brush from the jar in which the paints are sold. The jars are small - the paint is packaged at 50 mg, it is convenient to hold them in the hand. On small surfaces, paint is applied with a brush in one direction. Make sure that the strokes are applied evenly.

The paint can be stenciled. Lace is also suitable as a stencil.
