The planter is the best solution for those who do not have much room to grow lush, voluminous flower beds. Located in a suspended state, it will not interfere with walking and doing everyday activities at their summer cottage. Since the upper part of the terrace is rarely used, why not use it for a small flower garden? Also, the pots can be hung in a gazebo, veranda, on a fence and even trees - wherever there are suitable conditions for the life of plants.

Today the cost of pots is high, so not every summer resident can buy it. But do not despair! We suggest you make a planter for the garden with your own hands! It is not only simple, but also very interesting. You will be able to realize your any, even the most daring fantasies. After creating such a planter, be sure - you will hear a lot of praise and positive feedback in your address. It is noticed that people who decided to make a flowerpot for themselves soon have already made this occupation a matter of their lives. Maybe this will happen to you?

How does the creation of a planter begin? First, try to find suitable materials - containers that you no longer need on the farm. You may also need some tools, paints and rope. We propose to consider several options for making pots:

Wood is the most beautiful, natural and aesthetic raw material. It fits perfectly into landscape design, does not need special care and will be an excellent material for creating pots. What will the design be? Of course, it all depends solely on your preferences and desires. Let's find out how to make the simplest, uncomplicated planter that looks like a box or bucket.

What do you need? Boards, branches, bars and other wooden products that were left after repair work or were simply lying around at their summer cottage. Also prepare rope, glue, hammer, nails and scissors.

Before creating a pots, you need to decide on the size of the product. What will it be? Large or medium? The amount of material used depends on this. So, first you need to cut the bars or branches of the same size. Now a standard knot is knitted on one branch, the next is attached to it, on which another knot is knitted, etc. Knit until the size of the design suits you. The result should be an original, highly bendable canvas that will wrap around the flower pot. But how do you make the bottom? To do this, you need to put several sticks on the cross ropes, which will become the basis.

  1. Planters from plastic bottles

Plastic bottles are the most readily available material that can be purchased at any store. To make a planter from a bottle, you only need the bottle itself, a knife, rope and paints. For greater aesthetics, you can cut the pots in the shape of the head of animals, for example, a bear with two ears, a lion with a large mane, etc. Then the product is painted and takes on a different, original appearance. The only thing that needs to be taken into account is that such a planter will turn out to be small, so it will not work to plant large flowers there.

  1. Pot from gramophone records

Finally, there was a use for the old gramophone records, which almost every summer resident has. Make other simple pots out of them. To do this, you will need a plate, a stove, gloves, twine and any object to form the product. First, make a hole in the plate and thread the string through it. Now, holding it in a glove, gradually heat it over the oven. After a while, you will notice how it begins to change its shape, soften and sag.

We considered three options for pots, but in fact there are a lot of them. It is made from burlap, wire, ceramics, plaster, clay, etc. The main thing is not to be afraid to experiment and try something new. DIY garden planter from scrap materials anyone, even an inexperienced master, can do it.

The design of flower pots, especially in the inexpensive segment, is rarely highly decorative. Lining them up on the windowsill gives rise to a rather dull spectacle, the impression of which cannot be corrected even by the lush greenery of the plants living in them. But what to do if the budget does not allow buying something more decent, but you really want to maintain the atmosphere of comfort and celebration? Try decorating your flower pots with your own hands.

You can transform existing flowerpots using a variety of techniques. Use literally everything in your home bins, from shreds to croup. With a little imagination, plus a little effort, your home garden will sparkle with new colors!

What and how to make a flower pot

Polymer clay

Mini pots made of this material will be a great addition to a minimalistic environment.

Mini polymer clay pots

To make them you will need:

  • small spoon;
  • polymer clay;
  • stove.

Do-it-yourself flower pot modeling begins with kneading the clay until soft. Once it becomes malleable enough, immediately shape it into a ball.

The workpiece must be sent to the freezer for 10 minutes. The cold will harden the material a little and facilitate further work on the formation and decoration of the flower pot.

Shape the clay into a ball

The last step is to shape the outer surface of the flowerpot. It can be left with a round or sharp knife to level the walls to get a cube. Interesting abstract ideas of sculpting flower pots.

Make a notch and shape the pot.

The finished product must be baked in the oven. Information about the temperature regime and the nuances of the process is available on the clay packaging. Whether or not to decorate do-it-yourself flower pots is a rhetorical question. In principle, they will initially be good for their exclusivity, but this may not be enough for non-minimalist interiors. The attractiveness of the flowerpots will have to be painted, painted in different colors. You can make decoupage on a flower pot or use any other decor technique.

Cement

Cement flowerpots are highly durable and original in design. They are welcome guests not only in home interiors, but also in open spaces of gardens. So how do you make a flower pot out of this material?

Depending on what size it is planned to make the product for it, either you will need to assemble the formwork, or use plastic containers as it. Let's focus on making a small accessory.

Cement flower pots

For a 5 liter plastic bottle, cut off the neck so as to obtain a rectangular or square blank. Lubricate its inner surface with oil. We mix the cement mortar and pour it into the resulting container. We also grease a two-liter plastic bottle with oil, but from the outside and immerse it in the center in the filled portion of the solution.

When making flower pots with your own hands using this technology, you need to take into account that the smaller the core to be inserted, the thicker the walls of the finished product will be and the more naturally its weight will be. Therefore, when making voluminous flowerpots for the garden, it is better to collect the formwork for them immediately in the places designated for location.

The process of making a flower slide from cement

When the cement has set and cured (usually takes 2 days), the plastic parts are removed. If the inner bottle can be easily removed, the outer part will need to be cut off.

A cache-pot or an unusual pot can emphasize the unique charm of a plant in it, add zest to a mini-garden on the windowsill, or become an interior decoration both inside the house and in the garden. However, the question of the material which should be preferred when choosing a container for flowers often arises. The article will talk about how to choose, or make a pots for flowers with your own hands.

Material selection

Depending on your needs and budget, you can choose from a wide range of planters. Before deciding on a purchase, it is worth comparing different options, and weighing the pros and cons.

Several points to consider:

  • finance... There are a lot of options on the market - from inexpensive pots to exclusive handmade ones;
  • destination... Will the flowerpot be part of a temporary project? In this case, it makes no sense to spend a lot on it. If it is an element of interior decoration, then it is worth investing in the long term;
  • self-production... Often, to save time, a ready-made planter is purchased, however, nothing beats your own unique product;
  • pros and cons... Before purchasing, it will be helpful to consider the advantages and disadvantages of different types of pots.

Types of materials for pots

Plastic flower pots

A cheap versatile material from which both small pots and large flower pots are made.

  • The color of the pot is preferable to light, this will not quickly heat up in the sun, the plants in it will be less susceptible to the spread of microorganisms.
  • If necessary, you can always make additional drainage holes for the root system in such a planter.
  • Of the minuses of the material, it is worth noting its fragility, especially if it is used outdoors, over time the material becomes thinner and becomes fragile.

Clay pots

Traditionally popular material for pots.

  • In terms of design, clay pots offer many attractive options.
  • However, for plants, a clay pot is not always the best place to live, as it is nearly impossible to provide adequate drainage in it.

Planters made of natural stone

It is most often used in the manufacture of outdoor flower pots, as an element of landscape design.

  • They are very beautiful, monumental and, of course, durable.
  • In addition, stone can be called, perhaps, the most environmentally friendly material.
  • Its main drawback is its heavy weight.

Wooden planter for flowers

Wooden pots are very attractive and distinctive.

  • They provide excellent thermal insulation for the soil. Help insulate plant roots from excessive heat from the sun where necessary.
  • However, due to the fact that wood is a natural material, insect pests can start in it, and wooden bottoms rot over time. To avoid this, it is recommended to combine wood with other types of planters, for example, put several plastic pots in a wooden pallet.

Metal planter

Metal containers add a touch of rigor to the design.

  • They are strong and durable, but have a very high thermal conductivity, therefore, like wooden pots, it is recommended to use them in tandem with insulating pots, for example, made of clay.

Nylon threads

With their help, flower pots in the macrame style are weaved. These are inexpensive, but at the same time exclusive pots that will perfectly fit into the interior of not only a country house in a rustic style, but also suitable for a modern city apartment.

Do-it-yourself flowerpot with self-irrigation system

A planter for flowers with a self-irrigation system consists of the following elements:

  • the actual pot. Any old plastic will do, the main thing is to make sure that it has the necessary drainage holes;
  • moisture-absorbing area, any plastic bottle is suitable for these purposes;
  • the tube for filling the tank with water is wide enough to make it convenient and easy to fill with water. You can use a plastic tube or hose;
  • barrier (mosquito net, plastic bag, etc.);
  • stones (for example, large river pebbles);
  • land (in which the plant will be planted);

Step one: preparation

  • In a self-watering pot system, the heart is the area that is responsible for transferring moisture to the roots of the plant. Therefore, the manufacture of the pot begins with this element.
  • For its manufacture, any plastic bottle is taken, from which it is necessary to cut off the bottom and make many small holes in it (through which the soil will be saturated with moisture).
  • The height of this plastic piece depends on the height of the pot and should be at least a quarter of that.

Step 2: preparing the tube and drain hole

  • The tube must be installed in the planter and cut to height. It can be 2-4 cm above the ground.
  • Then the level is measured at which the water drain hole will be made. It should be flush with the top of the plastic piece that was made to saturate the soil with moisture.
  • The drainage hole is responsible for preventing excess water from getting to the roots of the plant in order to prevent them from rotting.

Step 3: fill with soil and install a moisture-absorbing site

  • At this stage, a mesh or film will be required, the size is determined by the diameter of the pot, the fabric should be 2-2.5 times larger.
  • The middle is marked at the cut, which is inserted into a plastic drainage cup.
  • Then the mesh must be straightened, and earth must be poured into the glass. It is important to make sure that it lies flat on the edges, and the ground is carefully tamped.
  • Then the cup can be placed in the center of the planter.

Step 4: install the irrigation tube and fill stones

  • A glass with earth was installed in the center of the pot, a tube (or a hose for water supply) is installed on one side and then stones are poured to the height of the plastic cup.

Important: the protective barrier (mesh) at this moment must be held, then it will be neatly laid over the layer of stones. Its function is to separate the stones from the soil. You do not need to cover the glass itself with material.

Step 5: backfilling and planting the plant

  • The filling of the earth begins from the middle of the pot, from the place where the plastic glass is placed, which performs the function of saturating with moisture, moving from the center to the edges.
  • When filling the soil, the mesh can be gradually pressed down. When most of it is covered with earth, the plant itself is planted to the required depth. Then the earth is poured to the top of the pot.

Step 6: watering and finishing work

  • Now that the plant has been planted, the earth has been filled in, it's time for watering.
  • The first time after transplanting, the top layer of soil is watered, and then water is poured through a tube into the bottom layer.
  • The plant will now be able to take the moisture it needs with its roots through a moist patch of soil in a plastic cup.
  • To feed the plant, you can add fertilizer to the water, which is poured through the tube.

A flower pots made in this way can be used as a wall planter, if braided using the macrame technique, or as a floor planter for large-sized plants.

It is known that hand-made little things give the house a special charm, many are able to tell about the tastes, habits and hobbies of the owner. And one of these individual features of your home can be flower pots made by you yourself.

In addition, each of your green pet has its own character, requirements for planting and care conditions, and a pot made according to an "individual project" is able to fully satisfy both your aesthetic tastes and the vital needs of the plant.

Self-production of flower pots

Clay pots

Clay is considered a traditional material for making flower pots. And, of course, you can buy a clay pot in the store without any problems.

But you can make and independently, even without having a potter's wheel at hand.

For manufacturing you will need:

  • clay;
  • furnace for firing the finished product.

Before starting work, knead the clay thoroughly until smooth.

Separating a small part from the total mass, form a ball and, flattening, give the shape of a round disk. You have the base of the pot ready.

Form a tourniquet with a diameter of about 0.5 cm and a length equal to the diameter of the bottom. Reinforce the tourniquet on the bottom and start making the next one. This will shape the clay pot to the size you want.

Leave the finished work for a couple of days to dry, after which the product must be burned.

Not sure how to do it right? We'll tell you!

The basic conditions for the correct reproduction of hyacinths are described, do not neglect them if you want to grow a healthy and beautiful plant.

Cement pot

This product will not only be original, but also durable.

To work you need:

  • several bricks;
  • cement;
  • sand;
  • two plastic containers, different in volume;
  • In addition, you will need a hammer drill and an old basin or saucepan in which you will mix the solution.

Prepared grease clean containers with oil (can be vegetable): smaller in volume - outside, larger - from the inside. This will protect them from excessive adhesion of the solution.

Prepare a mixture of sand, cement and water. Place the prepared solution in a larger container, and place a smaller workpiece inside. The greater the difference between the volumes of these vessels, the thicker the walls will be for your pot.

Place bricks or other weights inside a small container. The cement slurry must dry within 2 days... After that, cut the plastic containers and free your product from them.

In this way, fairly large flowerpots can be made. Small pots made in this way will look quite cumbersome, but, nevertheless, also original.

If desired, such a pot, after drying, can be painted with acrylics or decorated in another way.

Plaster pot

The procedure for making a plaster pot is similar to that of cement technology. Only other ingredients are needed:

  • gypsum;
  • water;
  • two plastic containers of different sizes.

We take a larger container, grease it with oil inside, put a container with a smaller volume inside, oiled outside, set the desired level and fill in gypsum, having previously made a solution in a 2: 1 ratio.

To have a more complete idea, I recommend that you watch the video of this process below, in addition, at the end of the video, they will show how to decorate such a pot with the decoupage technique.

Wicker pot

If you are a fan of eco-style, you can try weaving a flower pot from twigs... This process is quite laborious, but the result will undoubtedly please you.

You'll need:

  • twigs, preferably even;
  • a piece of burlap;
  • strong twine;
  • glue;
  • container-base in the form of a cylinder.

Cut the twigs so that they are slightly longer than the base container.

Tie the twigs together with twine to form a solid "canvas" with which you could wrap a cylindrical base. Glue the base with a piece of burlap, and on top attach the resulting structure of twigs. Secure with twine. If instead of twine you take a bright jute cord, your product will turn out to be more elegant.

Mosaic pot

The pots made using mosaic technique are beautiful and original..

As a "mosaic" you can use small pebbles, shells, pieces of porcelain or dishes, or colored glass.

Thus, you can arrange both small pots and vases of solid sizes.

To work, in addition to the "mosaic", you will need:

  • tin base (this can be either an empty tin can or a tin bucket);
  • plaster;
