Dining table in loft style with your own hands. Do-it-yourself loft-style furniture. Interesting design solutions and beautiful examples in the interior

There are many design styles for interior decoration. Sometimes, to implement the idea, many things are redone, and sometimes they are simply thrown away. To realize their plans, people are ready to sacrifice the most expensive items of the former interior. Today we will talk about a very interesting style - Loft. It is quite possible to make furniture in the Loft style with your own hands. For such a design, many improvised materials that can be found in every home are suitable - pipes, boards. Such quite affordable things and decoration will not require a lot of money, time and effort. As for decor, lighting and furniture, investments are needed here. Believe me, these costs are worth such a gorgeous result. Let's get started with this style to find out, for example, how to make a Loft sofa with your own hands, and more.

Loft style features

This style appeared in the 40s. He was revived in New York, and to be more precise, in Manhattan. The reason for his birth was the lack of affordable housing. That is why many people tried to design affordable homes with their own hands. Completely different materials were used. As a result, quite cozy and comfortable rooms were obtained with minimal investment. If we take the current time, then to the above, you can add beautiful furniture and original lighting, which will become a kind of highlight in your luxury apartment.

Differences of the Loft style from other design designs:

  • The main feature of the Loft is its industrial focus, the use of unusual materials and decorative elements.
  • To embody this style, metal or chrome pipes, beams, rough brickwork or concrete are used. All these elements do not mask purposefully, but on the contrary, they open as much as possible.
  • Wall cladding is rough and not at all well-groomed. In this case, you can safely use textured plaster or putty to achieve the visual impression that you did not process the wall at all. To achieve this effect, many people buy quite expensive and very high-quality finishing materials.
  • Two design ideas can easily coexist in a room - vintage and modern items, furniture and accessories. For example, a stylish bright-colored sofa will fit perfectly into a room where an antique coffee table or a cabinet with glass inserts is located.
  • The use of damaged, scratched or worn furniture is very appropriate when decorating a room in the Loft style. Some people deliberately create such defects in order to recreate all the beauty and richness of their creative idea.
  • The most popular materials in the manufacture of Loft-style furniture are plastic, wood, textiles and leather. All interior items from the above raw materials are quite large and sometimes very heavy. For example, the wider the vertical metal pipe, countertop, seating and shelves in the closet, the more the Loft style will be recreated.
  • An obligatory element of such a design solution is the presence of various wheels. They are present on the shelves, on the tables, even on the dressers. It is advisable to use wheels in almost all possible places. It is these strange elements that are inherent in the Loft style, where furniture at one time should be in a minimal amount, and at another - be modern and multifunctional. To achieve such an ideal combination, it is better to entrust this difficult task to professionals.

Important! But you can also try to make a unique content for a unique interior. We hope that our master class "" will help you cope with this difficult task.

  • The ceiling surface, like the walls, is made in a rather sloppy design, decorating it with dark shades (black, brown, gray). The ceiling is processed roughly, with visible defects, chips, bubbles and various inclusions. Bulky metal pipes and other imitation structures can be added throughout the ceiling to further enhance the impression of the uniqueness of the interior.
  • To design floors in the Loft style, they use stone-like tiles, laminate or porcelain stoneware in order to convey the structure of a wooden board as much as possible. Materials that can create the appearance of a raw concrete floor are very popular. This includes the so-called self-leveling floors, which must be necessarily matte for this style. Sometimes linoleum and other cladding options are placed as flooring.
  • All objects in the room should be placed at a maximum distance from each other. One of the conditions for loft design is the maximum free space.
  • This style can be supplemented with original bright lamps on a long metal wire.
  • To highlight the kitchen area, it is appropriate to place a bar counter from profile pipes.

Important! Despite all the sloppiness, democratic and unusual style, the most due attention is paid to accessories and decor details. The presence of black and white paintings, prints on the walls, photo collages, vases and other decoration elements are integral and very important components of the Loft style.

Do-it-yourself Loft-style table

Wooden furniture in this style can be made from almost any material - waste boards or any old table or chest of drawers. Today we will look at several detailed workshops on making a coffee table.

First way

For work, we need the following materials and tools:

  • Wooden circle for the top and bottom of the table - 2 pcs.
  • Wooden spool or large barrel.
  • Saw or circular.
  • Metal wheels.
  • Coarse sandpaper.
  • Self-tapping screws.
  • Screwdriver.
  • Screwdriver.

Let's get started:

  1. We make two wooden circles from the boards (the diameter is up to you). We put the boards close to each other and, using a circular saw, cut them to the size we need, thereby creating the cover of our future table. We do the same manipulations with the second exactly the same part (for the bottom stop).
  2. We connect the boards to each other with the help of small rails (the number is optional).
  3. Using a screwdriver, we fasten 4 wheels to the bottom of a pre-prepared round wooden cover.
  4. We grind the cylindrical coil with coarse sandpaper. This part will serve as a support for our coffee table.
  5. We fasten the upper part of the cover to the base with self-tapping screws.

That's all the work! The lower part of such a table can serve as a stand for books.

Important! Interior decoration is a delicate matter. When decorating your living space, you want to fill it with not only functional, but beautiful and unusual pieces of furniture. Therefore, having decided to make something unique for your home, start implementing ideas after getting acquainted with our selection.

Second way

Let's look at another option for making a wooden table in the Loft style. Anyone can make it, the main thing is to pick up everything you need for work, namely:

  • Construction pallets.
  • Patina.
  • Wheels.
  • Self-tapping screws.
  • Sandpaper of the finest grit.

Step-by-step algorithm of actions:

  1. We disassemble the wooden pallet.
  2. We take out all the available nails from it.
  3. We connect two boxes with self-tapping screws.
  4. Seal the gaps with small wooden boards.
  5. We cover the surface of the pallet with acrylic varnish. It is advisable to apply 1-2 layers of a fixing coating. Otherwise, the varnish will flow, which will entail ugly streaks.
  6. We apply patina to the wheels to achieve the effect of “aging”.
  7. We rub them with fine-grained sandpaper.
  8. We fasten the wheels at the four corners of the pallet.
  9. The new table is ready to fulfill its intended purpose. So we got two items in one - a do-it-yourself Loft-style table and shelves. In such large and convenient recesses, you can store not only magazines, but also necessary things.

Important! Loft-style furniture can be decorated a little by first sanding it and painting it white, without using painting and patterns.

DIY loft bed

This method is very similar to the previous one in order of pallet assembly, but it has its own differences and an additional item - a mattress. Yes, it didn’t seem to you that the bed can be made independently from such quite affordable material. Having decorated it, you will receive not only a comfortable sleeping place, but also very practical furniture.

Important! In order for the bed to become not just a place to sleep, but also, a kind of point of comfort, inspiration and relaxation, it is necessary to choose the right accessories for it. Therefore, before buying or manufacturing your nest, read our blogs:

What you need for work:

  • Wooden pallets 6-12 pieces.
  • Sander.
  • Screwdriver or drill.
  • Hammer.
  • Hacksaw or electric jigsaw.
  • Self-tapping screws or nails.
  • Dye.
  • Brushes of different widths.
  • Brush with soft bristles.
  • Roulette.
  • Pencil.
  • Orthopedic mattress of the right size.

There is nothing difficult in the manufacture of such furniture - each master has his own personal secrets that will make such a product one and only. But since pallets are a technical material, when making furniture, you must follow a few simple rules:

  1. They need to be sanded well so as not to leave wooden knots. For our case, this is extremely important, since the convenience of our location during rest and sleep depends on the quality of the processing of the wooden surface.
  2. We are dealing with natural wood, so it is better to treat the surface of the pallets with a special antifungal impregnation. So we will protect the bed from all kinds of pests that will harm not only the material, but also its direct user.

Important! The optimal size of a double pallet sofa is 240 by 240 cm. This parameter determines the format of the pallets themselves, which come in three pallets in two dense rows.

A step-by-step process for making a loft-style bed with your own hands:

  1. We prepare our pallets. Their number can be different - it all depends on the height of the desired bed. Therefore, the higher the bed, the more pallets will be required. Using a soft brush, we clean them of debris.
  2. We grind and treat the entire surface of wooden pallets with an antiseptic, including corners and hard-to-reach places.
  3. We paint each pallet separately (choice of color at will).
  4. After complete drying of the pallet, cover it with varnish. Again we are waiting for the coating to dry.
  5. We lay on the floor first one pallet, then the second, fixing them together with self-tapping screws. We perform such actions with the second row of the bed.
  6. To make a headboard for our bed, we set two pallets vertically at the top of the bed.
  7. We put the mattress on top of homemade furniture and enjoy the result of the work done.

Important! If you want to make a durable Loft sofa with your own hands, then it is advisable to use only new wooden pallets, and not those that have been transporting various materials and equipment for many years.

Other furniture options in the Loft style

We looked at ways to make a wooden table and a loft-style bed, but this is not the whole list. If you add a profile pipe to the pallets, then you can make a lot more garden furniture with your own hands. This will be a great start for a beginner who has decided to get acquainted with welding. There is nothing complicated in the work, the main thing is that the pipes just need to be fixed with the base material. For Loft-style furniture, profile pipes serve as a support. They replace the legs of a chair, benches and so on. In a word, such material is very useful in creating an interior in the Loft style.

The list of furniture, the design of which includes a profile pipe:

  • Shop.
  • Armchair.
  • Chair.
  • Cupboard.
  • Bar counter.
  • Sofa.

It often happens that the “skeleton” of the structure is assembled from profile pipes, and then additional soft furniture elements are added. For example, a do-it-yourself loft-style rack is assembled according to exactly the same scheme. This includes a wooden chair: first, a furniture frame is made from profile pipes welded together, and at the end of work, a seat is placed.

Important! Furniture from a profile pipe is very reliable and durable due to the high strength of the material itself. Therefore, if you decide to make furniture yourself, then pay special attention to this multifunctional item. Moreover, we will be happy to tell you how to make "".

Loft-style furniture will complement any modern interior. This direction originated in New York in industrial areas in difficult times. Due to the ruin of industrial enterprises, buildings were rented out or sold for next to nothing to ordinary people.

Therefore, this style is characterized by simplicity, strict straight lines and natural materials. If you want to add some zest to the interior of your home, install it in a loft style. It will fit into any modern style, and will differ in functionality, practicality and original appearance. Such furniture does not have to be purchased in a store, it is quite easy and simple to make with your own hands.

The features of loft-style furniture include the fact that it combines the incompatible. That is, furniture items can have a rather interesting and original appearance.

It can be assembled from different parts. For example, you can assemble a loft-style table from different products: take from one table, attach to it from another, and install boxes from the third.

There are several areas of loft style:

  • industrial- is the most popular. It contains rough and untreated surfaces, metal parts. The table in this direction should be functional and simple. Its color scheme can be: white, gray, black or brown;
  • Bohemian. Here the industrial atmosphere is preserved and the mixing of styles is allowed. An excellent choice for such an interior would be a table with carved metal legs. It will be perfectly complemented by modern chairs;
  • glamorous. A variety of colors is allowed here. You can make the product blue or lilac. The tabletop can be not only wooden in this direction, but also glass.

Attention: a loft-style table should be large and strict lines. There should not be anything superfluous, the main purpose of this direction is functionality, practicality and ease of use. The loft style is characterized by rough and brutal textures.

As for the variety of models, the loft-style table can be used in rooms of different purposes:

materials

The table in this direction can be made from the following materials:

  • (for countertop). Here you can use both, and, and other lumber;
  • metal (used to build a frame or legs).

If you resort to original ideas, then the designers offer tables with wooden tops mounted on glass bottles. But most often, furniture makers offer solid wood tables combined with metal supports.

You can make such furniture from old building materials that almost all people have in garages. So it will be even more exclusive and designer.

This furniture must have an aged look. If you use new materials, they must be artificially aged.

Attention: particular importance in the manufacture of loft-style furniture is given to its color scheme. It should match the overall style of the room.

Drawing

Before we start manufacturing a piece of furniture, it is necessary to think over its design and dimensions, purpose, materials of manufacture, color scheme. For the manufacture of parts and assembly of the table, you will need to make a drawing. On it, with an accuracy of a millimeter, we indicate all the data. Further, you will often have to use the drawing in the process of manufacturing individual elements and when assembling the product.

If you are not familiar with diagramming, you can use certain computer programs. They will accurately calculate all the dimensions of the product and help you in drawing up a competent drawing.

Making tools

Since the design of the loft-style table is simple, it will take quite a bit of free time to make it. Most the main thing in manufacturing is to assemble the frame of the product. It can be of any shape, size and color scheme. The countertop for such a piece of furniture can be bought ready-made and painted by yourself.

As materials We have selected the following manufactures:

From tools we will need:

  • grinder;
  • vise;
  • Bulgarian;
  • drill or screwdriver;
  • jigsaw;
  • Ruler and pencil.

How to do it yourself?

So, the drawing of the product is ready, the materials and tools are assembled, now you can start the manufacturing process:

Finishing

Finishing includes grinding surfaces, painting them with stain and varnishing. This will not only give the product an aged look, but also increase its performance and resistance to negative factors.

Also, the craftsmen give the product a finished look. with clear hard wax oil. This material is applied to wooden elements with a brush or roller.

The loft style has been firmly holding the leading position in popularity over the past five years. After all, the loft successfully combines interior details that at first glance seem incongruous. The result of such a bizarre combination of objects is a space reminiscent of an industrial, but at the same time modern and comfortable.

Loft style: history of occurrence

The urban loft style in the interior arose as a direction that combines the features of the underground and bohemianism. Translated from English, loft means "non-residential premises": from a small attic to an industrial building. The second meaning was assigned to the term to a greater extent, which determined the main features of this style in the future.

The loft interior style began to take shape in the middle of the last century in American cities. The historical prerequisite for this was a sharp rise in the price of land within the city. Construction companies began to actively build industrial enterprises in the suburbs. But supply exceeded demand. As a result, many industrial premises, for which there was no worthy buyer, the developers decided to convert them into residential ones. Since housing prices within the metropolis were high, there were many who wanted to live in former industrial premises.

The first dwellings in industrial premises appeared in the 1920s in New York (in Queens and Manhattan). During this period, there was an economic crisis, and many enterprises were ruined, and their buildings were rented out as housing for the poor. But rather quickly, this kind of apartment became popular among people of creative professions: it was possible to live and work there in one room. In the early 60s of the twentieth century, Andy Warhol became one of the fans of loft-style housing.

Initially, the industrial interior in the loft style of the middle of the last century is housing for the poor. There were no partitions between the rooms; instead of a standard ceiling, there were beams and roof slopes. Kitchen and bathroom - this was the end of the minimal improvement of the industrial premises.

The interior of the loft would not have left a mark on the history of architecture and design if its originality had not been noticed by artists and other bohemian public. Industrial premises began to be used as studios: for work, exhibitions, social events. And huge windows, brick walls, metal pipes, floors and ceilings with a rough finish have become unusual decorations for art objects.

Gradually, loft design in the interior began to acquire modern features. Against the background of brick walls, various antique items, extravagant furniture, luxurious velvet and genuine leather appeared. But overfilling the former industrial space with everyday objects in a bohemian environment was considered a sign of bad taste. Gradually, the loft ceases to be a "decoration for the poor" and begins to be perceived as an elite trend.

Modern loft in the interior of the apartment: reasons for popularity

Nowadays, an apartment, the interior of which is designed in the aesthetics of a loft, has become familiar to most. In many ways, the loft is popular due to its versatility.

An ordinary large apartment or a private house is the right space to realize the industrial style of loft interior design in its purest form. If the room is small, then we recommend using only certain features of this style. For example, free planning, brick walls, modern equipment against the background of antique items are also appropriate if the room is modest in size.

Loft interior is open for any experiments. Rough metal furniture or an antique set on carved legs - a loft apartment will accept everything! Therefore, everyone can create an unpredictable design that is within the boundaries of style and at the same time individual. Each interior of a loft-style apartment is unique. Modern eclecticism and minimalism also borrowed many features of the industrial loft style.

In addition to artists, actors and musicians, successful businessmen and representatives of the "golden youth" liked this style. The special aura of spacious, industrial premises attracted people with non-standard thinking. The loft combined the old and the new, perfectly smooth and rough surfaces, completeness and incompleteness, the warmth of wood and the coldness of stone.

Fans of minimalism often choose a loft, but unlike it, a loft strives not for simplicity, but for exquisite conciseness. If there is one single chair or sofa in the center of the room, then they will be really bright and worthy of attention, thanks to their unique design and shapes, like art objects.

For whom is the loft style in the interior of the apartment suitable?

Many people like loft interiors, but they will feel most comfortable in it:

  • representatives of creative professions, for whom an apartment is not only a living space, but also an office, workshop or exhibition hall;
  • tenants with a minimum budget for the arrangement of the premises: brick walls, concrete floors and ceilings are left in their original form, which saves on finishing;
  • fans of the minimalist style: laconic furnishings in the spirit of minimalism are an integral feature of the loft space;
  • owners of large premises without internal partitions and walls, who prefer the apartment to remain spacious and free;
  • lovers of extravagant combinations who believe that the interior must be modern and unusual;
  • single people or married couples without children who do not need a personal isolated space.

Loft is diverse in its manifestations. Therefore, if the characteristics listed above do not suit you, do not get upset and forget about the loft style. A professional designer will find an original way to bring loft features to the design of the room. For example, a Scandinavian interior with loft style elements is an affordable and aesthetic solution.

A white loft in the interior is an idea that will appeal to those who consider this style too brutal. Pastel colors soften the excessive expressiveness of the situation, and it becomes light and airy.

Loft style: main varieties

Most often, this style is divided into two main varieties:

  • Hard (hard loft): when an interior is created from the space of an existing building.
  • Soft (soft loft): when the atmosphere of the loft is recreated from scratch.

Sometimes there are two more directions of the loft:

  • Commercial, which occupies industrial spaces with high (more than 3 m) ceilings. Such premises are used mainly for offices and businesses.
  • Residential, entirely focused on creating living space.

The modern loft style is presented in three main directions:

  • boho: the interior combines diverse things - from kitsch, bought on the market, to antique, having antique value;
  • glamorous: the furnishings consist of exquisite antiques or fashion items; the use of pastel colors contrasting with brick or concrete walls is encouraged;
  • industrial: the design of the room is “industrial” and rough; the atmosphere is replete with minimalist furniture, the latest appliances and equipment.

Use the loft style that best suits your tastes!

Basic characteristics of the loft style

Interior design in the loft style implies a number of mandatory characteristics:

  • free layout with a minimum number of walls and partitions;
  • careful zoning: to separate functional areas from each other, they use means that do not violate the principle of free planning: the wall and partitions are replaced with screens, tall furniture, and a change in types of finishes;
  • minimalism in the setting: only things that are used daily for work and leisure remain in sight, and household utensils and equipment are made as invisible as possible;
  • contrasting combinations of old and new: for example, dilapidated brick wall decoration is adjacent to a shiny metal pipe, transparent glass surfaces, chrome wall tiles;
  • industrial design: high ceiling, under which communications and pipes pass, brick wall decoration, concrete ceiling, rough wooden details;

  • rough floor coverings: reclaimed floorboards or concrete surface, which can be softened with a fluffy rug, fur or clear varnish;
  • modern household appliances: the interior, as a rule, is complemented by the most advanced technology with a stylish, up-to-date design;
  • the concept of space is emphasized with furniture: very spacious armchairs, comfortable chairs, huge sofas are selected;
  • "open access" and mobility: all items in the interior are as functional as possible, and it is convenient to approach them from different angles. Particularly popular are double-sided shelving, massive wall-to-wall shelves and furniture on wheels.

Interior furniture in loft style

Loft style implies the use of furniture not only for its intended purpose, but also to separate one functional area from another. For example, the reception area is separated from the dining area with a high-back sofa located perpendicular to the wall. Therefore, it is recommended to place furniture not along the walls, but at a certain distance from them.

The design of furniture used within the loft style is not limited by strict requirements. But most often these are vintage or ultra-modern products with laconic forms. A high-tech metal interior element can be located next to an elegant designer item.

The interior of the loft-style room also allows for the presence of plastic furniture. But any furniture that the loft interior style allows should be expressive and eye-catching. A leather sofa is considered a kind of classic furniture in loft aesthetics.

It is not customary to flaunt cabinets and storage systems, but placing a metal rack or a floor hanger in front of everyone is acceptable. The most popular loft-style furniture materials are aluminum, leather, stainless steel, plastic, copper, and brass. Loft style does not imply the use of furniture sets, especially cabinet furniture. Definitely not suitable and furniture in country or ethnic style - the apartment will look tasteless.

Loft style: finishing options

The decoration characteristic of the loft style is deliberately primitive and rough, looking casual. Walls, ceiling and floor can be aged using special technologies. All surfaces have an expressive rough texture.

If initially the walls, ceiling and floor are smooth, then decorative “concrete-like” plaster or brick imitating tiles are used. Another option to achieve a casual look of surfaces is to clean them from layers of finishing materials to concrete or brick.

  • An indispensable element of style - visible metal pipes. The metal surface is not treated with colored paints. An acceptable solution would be only painting “under the metal” in order to enhance the metallic sheen of the pipes. Often, in order to enhance the decorative effect, pipes are replaced by more massive ones.
  • Ceiling with wooden beams- Another characteristic feature of the loft style. The beams are left in their original form, without painting or varnishing. In the absence of beams, their false counterparts are mounted.

  • Brick-lined walls recognizable sign of loft style. But each of the walls can have a special, different finish from the others. So the apartment will be further divided into functional areas. For example, a plastered wall with a sofa next to it will become a guest area. And in the kitchen area, the wall can be concrete. As for the color range of coloring, the dark wall is a rare occurrence for the loft style. The decoration of the walls is kept in light or silvery tones.
  • Floor as part of the style, the loft is covered with tiles that imitate stone, or wooden flooring with an aged effect.

  • Palette includes predominantly natural shades (gray, brown, silver, metallic, white, black, beige, terracotta, etc.), without overly bright combinations.
  • materials, imitating natural wood, stone, rusty metal, rough concrete, brickwork will fit perfectly into this style.

Loft style lighting

The loft-style interior implies the presence of sufficient natural light. After all, this style cannot be imagined without large windows through which sunlight freely penetrates. Textile curtains are used extremely rarely. If necessary, they are replaced with blinds.

In order for an apartment or room to acquire a truly loft design, we recommend using lamps on busbar systems. Such lighting devices, resembling small spotlights, create a stream of directional light. As a result, the situation in the living room will approach the atmosphere of the production workshop.

Many designers specializing in loft style advise that there are a lot of lamps, but at the same time, the light should not hurt the eyes and be too bright. Multi-level lamps and even sophisticated antique chandeliers look spectacular. However, in addition to artificial lighting, daylight should pass well into the room, so the size of the windows, if possible, should be increased and thick dark curtains should be abandoned.

Loft style: characteristic decor

When creating a do-it-yourself loft-style interior, limit the use of decor. Small figurines and sentimental trinkets are out of place. A suitable decorative element is a large-sized artistic photo, a large vase, a designer chair. The picture for the interior of the loft is suitable abstract or in the style of pop art.

It is not necessary to post photos or paintings in the traditional way. It looks interesting to look like a similar decor in large frames, standing on the floor and attached to the wall. Homemade collages from photos and magazine clippings would be appropriate.

The loft style allows the use of all items included in the urban culture as decors. The interior will be decorated with road signs, advertising posters, posters and even graffiti.

Loft-style dining area and kitchen

The kitchen is a secondary room in the loft space, so its design fades into the background. It is customary for the kitchen to be small and located in the depths of the living space. It can be stylized "antique". For example, finding a retro refrigerator is not difficult. Thematic design of the kitchen will be complemented by old photos and wooden furniture.

The interior of the loft-style kitchen can also be designed in the spirit of high-tech. Its characteristics are the latest equipment, an abundance of metal, glass and chrome. Built-in appliances take up minimal space, so a high-tech kitchen will fit perfectly into the loft concept.

The idea for the kitchen is to stylize it as a catering establishment of the middle of the last century: for example, a small street cafe. Mandatory pieces of furniture for such a kitchen are a bar counter with high-backed chairs. If a bar counter in the kitchen seems unattractive, then try using a small island table instead.

The atmosphere of the kitchen will be complemented by a professional coffee machine, a lot of original utensils. The loft kitchen allows decor in the form of hanging flower pots with flower plants. So the kitchen will become more comfortable. The placement of photos and posters on the "kitchen" theme is welcome.

The loft kitchen can be equipped with a table and chairs made of any material: wood, metal or plastic. Chairs of different styles will look interesting in the kitchen - for example, an old model with a leather back and a trendy one made of glass and metal.

One wall can traditionally be supplemented with bare brickwork or concrete, and on the floor it is better to emphasize a rough wooden covering. For example, you can choose a laminate that mimics wide, unfinished wood planks. It is perfectly acceptable to leave the ceiling unfinished, even if it is ordinary concrete slabs. Against the background of a brick wall, modern plasma, an abstract panel or a graphite board will look contrasting and spectacular.

The palette emphasizes cold shades (white, pale brown, black, gray, terracotta). If you still want to paint one of the walls in a rich color, then it should also be present in several other interior items: for example, a table of the same bright shade can harmonize well with a red wall.

All kinds of chrome-plated fittings (handles, holders, roof rails, hangers) will help to add a characteristic hi-tech shine. At the same time, the kitchen apron should not be flashy and colorful: it is enough to use a plain stainless steel sheet. Warm and soft accents can be made with a few textiles in light colors.

Loft style living room

Complex textures become a real decoration of a loft-style living room: genuine leather and velvet upholstery, a long pile of a fluffy carpet, an exotic skin on the floor. The interior of a loft-style living room cannot be imagined without a home theater or a powerful stereo system.

The loft living room is a space where there is always a large sofa that can accommodate numerous groups of friends. The living room is complemented by a small coffee table. An antique model or a table made of pallets is decided taking into account the style in which the living room is decorated.

The living room is a suitable place to place a real fireplace or its imitation. This interior element will make the brutal loft style home-style warm and cozy. The loft living room is decorated with original candlesticks, photos or posters in large frames, standing on the floor, and designer figurines.

Wall, ceiling and floor coverings are best left in their original form. Or apply this approach to one thing - only to the walls or only to the ceiling. The easiest option is to stick photo wallpapers depicting brickwork or concrete on the walls. If there are communication pipes along the ceiling, it is better to leave them in plain sight.

Loft style bedroom design

The bedroom should be separated from the rest of the space, for example, with a high partition or a mobile screen. After all, the loft free layout does not contribute to the privacy necessary for a good rest. Also, the bedroom can be separated by a small chest of drawers.

A bright detail of the bedroom can be a high bed with wrought iron legs and headboard. When choosing bedside tables for the bedroom, try to play on the contrast. For example, if the headboard in the bedroom has a sophisticated design, then you should choose bedside tables of primitive geometric shapes, artificially aged. In the bedroom, a miniature reading nook will be useful, consisting of a miniature table, a trendy rocking chair and a wall lamp.

The loft style allows the bedroom to be decorated according to minimalist trends. Then the bed and bedside tables are chosen laconic, of small height. The loft bedroom looks harmonious with snow-white or light-colored linens. Such textiles favorably emphasize the overall brutality of the bedroom space.

It should not be colorful and too defiant. It is better to stick to plain, natural fabrics. To emphasize the spaciousness and air of the loft, it is advisable to choose curtains that are light, light, almost transparent. Instead of classic curtains, Roman blinds or blinds are also suitable.

The decor of the bedroom is the original lamps standing on the bedside tables, a plaid or carpet with a large ornament. Do not forget that a bedroom in any style should maintain an overall atmosphere of peace and relaxation. Therefore, excessively bright accents in the bedroom should be avoided. For example, instead of a flashy abstract painting, choose a discreet black and white photo as your bedroom decor.

It would be nice to organize a niche in the bedroom. This approach is especially appropriate when the house has a second floor, and the niche can be located under the stairs. For a contrast of styles that is acceptable when decorating a loft, you can simultaneously use different-sized interior items: a grandmother's chest, a modern bed, a chrome-plated wardrobe and leather furniture. But all of them should be simple concise forms and contain a minimum of details. If you plan to place a mirror, then it is better to take a large mirror sheet in an ordinary wooden frame and put it on the floor or attach it to the wall.

Bath and bathroom in loft style

The loft bath "antique" looks interesting. The extravagant loft style is effectively emphasized by gilded details - furniture legs, taps, communications. Do-it-yourself loft interior allows for independent, slightly careless, coloring of these details. The functional decor of the loft-style bath will be a mirror in a silver or gold frame.

As an additional finishing material, try using mosaic tiles. Often the bath, even in new buildings, has a partial brickwork. It should be treated with a moisture-proof composition, and the resulting surface will withstand temperature fluctuations in humidity in the bath. Another option to recreate the loft style in the bathroom is ceramic tiles imitating brick.

If desired, the bath is decorated in high-tech style. Then a jacuzzi, an ultramodern shower with many options, and lamps that change the color of the light flux become mandatory attributes of the interior of such a bath. The gleam of chrome and steel in the bathtub contrasts with the loft's rough textures. The bath is decorated with designer toothbrush holders and original soap dishes.

If the bathroom space allows, then you can occupy it with spectacular furniture that immediately attracts attention. And it is not necessary to choose only modern models: both vintage and antique quirky things will successfully fit into such a room. For example, an ordinary wooden bench from a Russian bath or an old chest can become a bold statement and a practical piece of furniture.

According to the canons of style, storage systems should be open and accessible. Therefore, instead of closed drawers, it is better to use racks, baskets and shelves. A stylish contrast with raw brick or concrete surfaces will be created by modern, laconic hi-tech plumbing. If the plan is to make a vintage bath the key center, then it is better to choose the most relevant faucet on the market for it.

Let the decor of the bathroom be minimal without cute vases and bottles. Interior items should be as practical as possible. Remove useless accessories. In the design of the loft style, urban things and modern art objects are welcome.

What is a loft style table

A table is a necessary piece of furniture in everyday life and at work. The horizontal surface, raised above the floor level, provides a comfortable stay for a person in a sitting position. Throughout the history of the existence of mankind, this accessory of being has undergone various constructive changes: at first it was rather primitive, and later it even became a luxury item.

In the 60s of the last century, in the wake of alternating economic crises, empty production areas appeared. The premises began to be occupied by various creative associations that filled the interior with homemade household items. This is how the loft design style was born (this word translates as an attic).

Today it has become fashionable to make tables in the loft style again. Of course, this style does not mean the creation of designer models from attic trash. The main idea is that the supporting structure (legs, box frame) is made of metal, and the countertop is made up of irregularly shaped decorative boards.

Loft style coffee table

The comfortable height of this furniture does not exceed 300–350 mm. In the apartment, the coffee table is not surrounded by chairs, it is moved to the sofa. If the interior design of the kitchen is made in the loft style, then such a table will look quite harmonious against the general background.

I will talk about how to make a loft-style table with your own hands. To do this, you need to prepare the appropriate tools and materials.

Instruments

In my workshop, I found all the necessary tools for making a loft-style table with my own hands:

  • drill for drilling holes in metal;
  • screwdriver for fastening wooden parts;
  • air compressor with a gun for cleaning the working surface from small debris and drying the painted parts of the support frame;
  • welding machine for welding a metal pedestal;
  • jigsaw for processing the ends of the tabletop;
  • brushes for primer, paint and varnish;
  • tray for paint and primer;
  • corner machine for cutting corners and strips;
  • hammer;
  • tape measure and metal ruler;
  • level;
  • chisel for cleaning wood;
  • screwdriver;
  • a set of clamps for fixing parts during welding.

materials

  • two oak boards 30 mm thick and 1200 mm long;
  • equal-shelf steel corner 32 × 32 × 1210 m;
  • steel strip 50 mm wide and 800 mm long;
  • screws;
  • primer for metal;
  • dye;
  • abrasive wheel;
  • furniture varnish.

In order to make it clear how to make a loft table yourself, I decided to present my actions in the form of instructions.

Step-by-step instructions for assembling a loft-style wooden coffee table

I assembled a loft-style table with my own hands in two stages:

  • production of a metal pedestal,
  • table top installation.

Making a pedestal

  1. On a sheet of paper I drew a sketch of a pedestal from a metal corner.
  2. An angle machine with an abrasive wheel cut the metal into segments according to the drawing.
  3. The ends of the corners were cut at an angle of 45 º.
  4. Using a welding machine, I welded two horizontal frames.
  5. A workbench was used to weld the metal frame. He fixed the details of the structure with clamps.
  6. The corners of the lower frame were arranged with a vertical shelf up, and the elements of the upper belt of the pedestal were assembled with vertical shelves down.
  7. I placed vertical racks between the frames and connected them by welding to the frames.
  8. I welded two transverse metal strips into the upper frame at a distance of 300 mm from the edges of the frame.
  9. Sanded welded seams with an angle grinder.
  10. Having installed the metal case on the floor, I checked the levelness of the upper frame of the pedestal with a level.
  11. I applied primer to the pedestal frame with a brush.
  12. After 12 hours, all the metal was covered with gray paint.
  13. Drill drilled in strips of 4 holes with a diameter of 4 mm.

If there is no possibility and experience in handling welding, then it is better to order the manufacture of a metal frame in a locksmith's workshop.

Tabletop fixing

I fixed the table top boards as follows:

Labor costs and cost of manufacturing a loft coffee table

  • two oak boards 30 mm thick with an area of 1.8 m 2 - 800 rubles;
  • 2 steel corners 32 × 32 mm with a wall thickness of 4 mm and a total length of 12.1 m (1 running meter costs 55 rubles) - 665 rubles;
  • steel strip 50 × 800 mm - 100 rubles;
  • electricity - 200 rubles;
  • bank of soil GF-021 0.9 kg - 70 rubles;
  • a can of enamel for metal 0.9 kg - 320 rubles;
  • tube with furniture varnish (aerosol) - 100 rubles.

The total cost amounted to 2255 rubles.

It took me no more than 16 hours to make the table, not counting the time for drying paint and varnish.

If you order a pedestal in the workshop, then the amount of costs will increase by about 30%.

In this video, you can see the various models of loft-style tables:

Tables in this style usually have uneven surfaces with wide slots. Because of this, small breakable objects can fall to the floor or simply get stuck between the boards of the countertop. However, these inconveniences are more than offset by the unusual design of the furniture.

A loft-style table will be a bright addition to any modern interior. Our article will tell about everything connected with this stylistic direction and about the features of such furniture.

Characteristic features of the style

To understand what the “loft” direction is, let's take a brief excursion into history. This style originated in the industrial areas of New York during the Great American Depression. Some enterprises went bankrupt, some were forced to move out in search of cheaper premises. As a result, many abandoned industrial buildings and structures appeared. Often, furniture and equipment remained in such premises.

Many of these buildings were bought up for junk money and rented out. And the furniture that remained in them was used in everyday life. Since the rent for such apartments was low, they were quickly chosen by people of creative professions. It was very convenient - on the lower floors it was possible to arrange workshops and exhibition areas, and the upper ones were converted into housing and workshops. This is how the “loft” style appeared, which literally means “attic”.

This concept in design includes three main areas:

  • Industrial (or "Industrial"). This is the most popular trend in interior design. Furniture in this style is very reminiscent of work machines: an abundance of rough unfinished surfaces, metal parts, concrete racks, ventilation pipes. An industrial-style table should be as practical, functional and free of anything superfluous as possible. No irregular shapes - only strict geometry.

The color scheme does not indulge in variety - white, gray, black, sometimes brown.

  • Bohemian ("boho"). This design retains the overall feel of an industrial shop floor. But some mixing of styles is allowed. A striking example of a boho loft is a table with carved legs from the time of Marie Antoinette, bought in some antique shop. And in the kit you can pick up chairs in the Art Nouveau style.
  • glamorous. This direction is distinguished by some variety of colors. A small interspersing of pastel colors is allowed here - blue, lilac. A table in the style of a glamorous loft can have, for example, a more elegant glass top or wrought iron openwork legs.

Furniture features

Thus, the "loft" style is a mixture of different directions, a combination of incongruous. Furniture can look like it's assembled from different parts: the top is from one table, the legs are from another, and the cutlery drawer is from a third. The main and main quality of a table executed in this manner is its impressive size. This direction does not tolerate diminutiveness and sophistication. Everything should be fundamental, large-scale and thorough.

Even if it is a coffee or bedside table, it should be strict and concise. Nothing superfluous, solid minimalism and practicality. The whole design must be compact, carefully thought out, all details must be strictly functional and have a specific purpose.

Even such small items as, for example, chairs or hangers, should be as concise and mobile as possible.

So that they can be freely moved in space, they can be made on rollers. Thus, you can change the interior of the room, freeing up additional space.

Loft-style furniture is characterized by non-standard solutions. This direction in design involves a departure from everyday life and routine. There is no place for boredom and banality. So, a table made in the "industrial" style should be moderately brutal and at the same time elegant. At the same time, it should be used for its intended purpose, and not just be an interior decoration.

When decorating a loft room, there are two main areas - natural design and artificially created:

  • A natural direction is when furniture is used in a living room that was originally intended for industrial premises - for example, scaffolding adapted for a dining table.
  • The artificial direction of the loft in furniture design is considered universal and can be reproduced both in the entire interior and in individual details. An example of an artificial direction can be considered an antique table.

materials

The kitchen worktop can be made from a metal slab. A metal footboard can be used as a support. Or the countertop can be mounted on glass bottles. For a table that is intended for a bedroom or living room, wooden parts are more often used.

It can be ash or birch. In elite models, oak details can be used. Fashionable furniture boutiques offer fans of this design to purchase a metal table with traces of rust. In some instances, broken bricks, raw concrete, aged wood can be used. The use of glass and plastic is also not excluded.

For the manufacture of tables in the style of "loft" there are no rigid frames. Everything is useful here. If it is a tree, then it can be either polished or completely unfinished. If you use metal, then it can also be either shiny or matte.

You can add originality to the design of the product by adding a few unexpected details, using, for example, leather, velvet or any other fabric.

Table models

As mentioned above, the loft style is characterized by practicality and functionality. The shape of such tables can be very different: with even corners or rounded. Sometimes designers go beyond the usual understanding of this direction and come up with non-standard forms for tables. One of the clearest examples of such furniture can be table transformer. It can be a real find for a small studio apartment.

Often in small apartments, a loggia is combined with a room. After the window block is removed, a part of the concrete partition remains, which can also be used as a bar counter or coffee table. The tabletop can be made from old boards, and the concrete base can be painted white or left untouched. This design is characterized by a large free space, divided into zones not by partitions, but by furniture. To do this, the desktop in the interior of the "loft" is often placed right in the middle.

When choosing a table for the interior in the described style, you can give free rein to your imagination. Both ascetic glass models on a metal support and wooden elements will be appropriate here. Moreover, all these materials can be mixed with each other. The most important rule is that furniture should not be “small”.

It should be as if with a slight touch of time, as if from an antique shop. The color scheme is chosen mostly neutral, but small portions of bright details are allowed.

Interesting design solutions and beautiful examples in the interior

Coffee and coffee tables

Many famous brands develop original designs of coffee and coffee tables in a loft design. For example, Starbarrel offers its admirers a table in the shape of a metal barrel, which is also a cabinet with shelves and a door.

Products from another brand look no less original. Cazarina Interiors. For example, a round table with a tempered glass top and sheet steel base.

You can use the most unexpected things as tables in the loft style. Even in the finished product, you can make changes with your own hands. It just takes a little ingenuity and skill. If you dig around on the mezzanine, there will surely be a couple of old grandmother's hard-framed suitcases - so why not adapt one of them under a coffee table? Another unexpected, at first glance, solution - connect the table with a worn leather sofa.

To make a fashionable designer thing, there is no need to spend a lot of time and effort on pre-cleaning a battered table from old paint. It is not even necessary to brush off a layer of dust from it - it is enough to cover it with several layers of colorless varnish. If you want to paint your work, choose cool shades such as wet asphalt, dark brown, black, metallic. Or, on the contrary, leave it as a bright spot in the middle of the room, painting it in white or pale blue. Shades of burgundy and brick are also welcome.

Desks

When choosing a desk, one should not forget that the concept of "loft" is characterized by large sizes and some negligence in decoration. It's nice if his legs are on wheels, then he can be moved around the room. You can even go even further and build a table top right on top of your old car wheels. Such an interior item will definitely not go unnoticed.

Traditionally, a desk involves the presence of a pedestal or drawer for stationery. So, the manufacturers of the Dutch brand Loft came up with a model Sea Container W, where the table top is made of solid oak, and the legs and built-in cabinet are made of corrugated metal.
