Facade cladding with siding. House sheathed with siding - practice and design, photo selection Houses sheathed with facade panels foreheads with siding

If you are looking to finish your façade using the dry method, siding your home is suitable for most modern buildings, especially sandwich panels or aerated concrete.

Decorating your home with this material can be done on your own without spending a lot of effort. Siding is distinguished not only by the beautiful appearance of the building that it can create, but also by its favorable price.

Considering the complex characteristics of the proposed materials for wall decoration, they pay attention to the following factors:

  • operating conditions of the finish;
  • total cost of finishing;
  • environmental friendliness.

Information about the characteristics of siding that can be useful for deciding on siding a house with siding:

  • durability;
  • subject to thermal deformation;
  • resists direct sunlight, adverse external influences;
  • shockproof;
  • it is easy to install;
  • the finished facade is easy to repair;
  • fire safety.

If you decide to use siding for cladding your home, first of all, you need to personally visit a hardware store. When buying over the Internet, it will be difficult for you to find out the following features:

  • uniformity of color on the outside and inside, indicating the quality of the material;
  • the quality of the mounting holes;
  • uniformity of the thickness of the panels around the perimeter and among themselves.

Types of finishing materials

Siding has excellent technical characteristics. Due to the wide range of colors and textures, there is a steadily growing demand for a house clad in siding on the materials market.

It is available in the following variations:

  • vinyl;
  • aluminum;
  • basement;
  • steel;
  • copper;
  • cement;
  • wood.

Any of the above types are suitable for finishing external walls. Focus on your budget, the desired appearance of the facade. The cheapest will be vinyl (the most popular), the most expensive - including wood or copper. It is customary to use the first two types to decorate a wooden house with your own hands without much time.

Amount of material

To calculate the amount of the main material (panels, hydro, vapor barrier), you need to measure the area of the facade for finishing minus the area of the windows, plus five percent from above. The number of the profile is equal to the length of the corner lines of the house, including the touching angles of doors and windows, the perimeter and doubled.

For a rack-mount profile, it is enough to find out the length of the walls from the ground to the beginning of the roof, multiply by the length of the perimeter, divided by 60 cm.To find out the number of additional parts, before sheathe a wooden house with siding with your own hands, and parts, you need to divide the length of the rack-mount profiles by a distance between the fasteners (70 cm). For you need self-tapping screws:

  1. LN 9 - for galvanized profiles, it is possible to find out only an approximate quantity.
  2. TN 25-30 - for a tree, for the calculation we multiply two by the U-shaped mount, adding five percent.

What will come in handy when facing

Usually, do-it-yourself siding house cladding requires the following tools:

  • screwdriver;
  • screwdriver;
  • roulette;
  • scissors;
  • grinder / saw with fine teeth;
  • hammer;
  • level;
  • square;
  • ladder reaching the roof.

Before decorating the house with siding, study its complete set, which consists of the following parts:

  • starting, corner, finishing, connecting strips;
  • elements for slopes;
  • drainage systems;
  • spotlights.

Let's get down to preparatory work

Without preparing the facade for work, you should not start cladding. Remove obstructions such as window shutters, external sills, cornices, window sills, drain pipes. Seal old cracks with mortar or foam. Remove mold, rot, old paint, and peeling plaster from a home built long ago.

After that, treat the walls: with a fire retardant, antiseptic, the walls of a wooden house, with a special primer, brick or concrete. Further, it is necessary to carefully examine the facade in order to understand whether the cladding of the facade with siding needs an additional frame. It may not be installed only for smooth log walls, in other cases, especially when insulating, its installation is mandatory.

Installing the frame

As we just said, in most cases you need a frame: from slats for a log house and from a galvanized profile in the case of concrete or brick walls of the house.

Attention: the slats, which are necessary to sheathe a wooden house with siding, after drying, are processed with the same materials as a wooden house.

So, how to sheathe the facade of a private building with siding:

  • make a marking of lines for a closed contour using a tape measure and a level;
  • put a mark on the lower point of contact between the wall and the plinth, making a second contour, where in the future we will set the initial bar;

Be careful: if the second circuit deviates from the level indicators, the wall finishing panels may skew.

  • start the installation with vertical guides, which are mounted using U-shaped mounts;

Tip: For a tight fit, you can place pieces of wood or foam underneath them.

  • additional guides are made on corner lines, places of future lighting, as well as near door and window openings;

Attention: if you connect the vertical rails to each other, there will be no air circulation, due to which the facade will be exposed to destructive biological effects, such as fungus or mold.

  • do-it-yourself layers of hydro and vapor barrier;
  • between the crate, layers of rolled mineral wool or foam plates are laid, if necessary, fixed with clamps.

Plinth trim

If you want to use this material and for, use the following instructions:

  • install horizontal profiles on the frame;
  • attach the initial strips on top;
  • measure the supporting parts with a level and a corner;
  • fasten the profiles and knees together;

Attention: for a strong fastening, use a dowel-nails up to 8 cm long for this process.

  • if you want to end up with a stable base, fix the profiles horizontally.

If this is your first time faced with the need to perform cladding with such material, and are not sure how to properly sheathe a house with siding, study the following material:

  • when fixing the panels, observe the gap between the siding and the self-tapping screw of 1 mm

Attention: if finishing the house, forget about the thermal gap, the finishing will soon be covered with cracks due to expansion when heated.

  • leave 0.3–0.5 cm between the edge and end joint;

Tip: If siding is done in winter, the gap distance is increased due to temporary compression of the material.

  • fasten all self-tapping screws in the center of the hole, with the exception of one at the top of the pediment, which is driven into the center of the panel itself and the self-tapping screws of the upper panels.

Without these simple rules, the technology of siding the house with siding will be incorrect, and the frame will not hold the material well.

Let's start cladding the facade with panels

Step by step, you have come to the main point that siding has - fastening the main panels, for this:

  • use a level to attach the initial profile;
  • put panels on it, attach each of which to the crate;

Attention: the mount is made using self-tapping screws in the color of the siding, when choosing which, attention is drawn to the cap - for strong fastening, it must be large and with corrugations.

  • fasten the panels from the bottom until you reach the pediment;
  • assemble the cornice, for which the serifs are applied to the pediment and the installation of the starting panel;
  • attach the crate to the bar;
  • mount the cornice with self-tapping screws.

What to do with openings

For finishing the slopes of doors and windows with panels, if present, there are special accessories that include the following elements:

  • slope profiles;
  • window aquilons;
  • platbands and others.

For facing slopes, after repairing windows and doors, you can use two mounting options. Ways to sheathe slopes with siding:

  • on the side - it is more reliable to protect against moisture;
  • end-to-end - has a more beautiful appearance.

Against the background of the complexity and high cost of implementing the previous options, the technology of siding a wooden house can exclude them. To do this, frame the frame along the perimeter of the opening and arrange it with a J-profile. In this case, the siding bypasses the slopes, which are lined separately using a different technology.

Conclusion

Vinyl siding will almost always match your requirements. Despite this, some owners use a log blockhouse in order to preserve the look of expensive natural wood with their own siding. It is very convenient to finish a house in which the windows are level with the walls, without external slopes.

Metal siding is used for commercial properties, where its capabilities provide the advantages of a clapboard, which it cannot do for a private home, except it complicates the work. If you don't have a strong desire to figure out how to sheathe your house with siding with your own hands, hire professionals.

The fact is that if you do the decoration yourself, in case of failure, there will be no one to blame. In addition, due to inexperience, you risk spending twice as much materials, especially if you are not in the habit of carefully studying the nuances of the plating process before starting it.

Houses that have stood for more than a dozen years lose their former attractiveness in appearance, and at the same time, under the influence of the environment, the thermal insulation and the very appearance of the walls deteriorate.

Facade cladding with siding of a brick, wooden or plastered house is a low-budget and practical solution that can give a building a neat look, thereby realizing creative ideas in terms of outdoor design. Finishing the facade with siding will give a private house a gloss and keep the building from adverse weather conditions, extending its operational life.

Fiber cement siding

The exterior cladding of the house solves several problems - improving the design of the facade, protecting the walls from atmospheric phenomena and warming. The value of any finishing material lies in the combination of several factors - durability, availability, decorative properties, ease of installation and maintenance. Such conditions are met by finishing the house with siding. Therefore, this is one of the most popular technologies, especially when you consider that there are several types of facade panels, united by a common name.

Home decoration with siding is a successful combination of tradition and modernity Source holds.ru

Types of siding and their features

Siding was invented by American settlers. It was exclusively wooden and consisted of ordinary boards, which were mounted horizontally with an overlap in such a way that the upper ones hung over the lower ones. Now only there are several types of materials, and there are even more decorative forms.

Wood siding

In the classical interpretation, it is an edged board, which is attached to the crate. Nowadays, the cladding of the facade of the house with wooden siding is often called in honor of the motherland of the technology "American". And in its usual form, a house sheathed in this way looks soundly, albeit somewhat rustic.

This is what the classic American upholstery looks like Source hi.aviarydecor.com

Fans of rustic style will surely like the slightly rough look of the facade made of unedged board - it gives the house a unique flavor, despite the modern "filling" of the wall cake made of insulation and a protective membrane.

Brutal style for a wooden house Source pinterest.cl

This method of fastening, which ensures the impermeability of the cladding to wind and precipitation, gave an impetus to the appearance of a profiled facade board. It greatly facilitates the installation process, since the geometry itself sets the exact pitch, and the inner side is mounted to the crate with a continuous deck.

The beveled profile of the board with a tenon will make installation easier and faster Source notperfect.ru

Even better in this respect for finishing the facade of a wooden house with siding is "American" lining. To the beveled profile and the protruding edge of the front part, a spike was added on the upper end and a groove on the lower one, which ensure complete tightness of the cladding and protect the facade from direct penetration of cold air in winter and hot air in summer.

Fiber cement siding

This type of siding for home decoration is an artificial stone in composition. But unlike its closest "relatives" among the facade panels (the surface of which is made to look like slate, limestone or brick), it imitates wooden boarding. And in terms of decorative abilities it is in no way inferior to the best examples of natural analogues.

Fiber cement panel is not inferior in "beauty" to wood siding, but significantly surpasses it in terms of service life Source 2gis.ru

On our site you can find contacts of construction companies that offer the service of finishing and insulation of houses. You can communicate directly with representatives by visiting the Low-Rise Country exhibition of houses.

Installation takes place according to the traditional scheme - with self-tapping screws in the upper part, so that the protruding edge of the overhanging panel covers the attachment points. And the inner side, in contrast to the classic siding, is located on the crate with a continuous flooring, like a profiled facade board. Although from the front side, the cladding resembles a traditional herringbone installation.

Although it is a relative of concrete, the fastening is no more difficult than that of wood. Source fibro-saiding.ru

In terms of durability and operational properties, fiber cement siding is one of the best in its class - it belongs to non-combustible materials, painted in the mass practically does not fade in the sun, is absolutely resistant to high humidity and fluctuations in its level, does not change its geometry when the temperature drops or rises.

Wood-polymer siding

This material is made from recycled wood and polymer and is usually referred to by the abbreviation WPC, where "k" is a composite. Initially, the technology itself was planned as a way of recycling wood waste and obtaining boards (panels) for outdoor use - terraces, facades, small architectural forms in landscape design

WPC has the same "specialization" as wood, but much more durable Source notperfect.ru

It turned out that the cost of manufacturing was higher than that of similar products from natural raw materials of conifers (including larch). But given the long guaranteed service life (from 25 years) without burnout, cracking and warping, such siding will pay for itself in the long term. Moreover, it does not need to be treated with antiseptics, fire retardants and paintwork.

There are different types of structure of WPC profiles for cladding a house with siding. They differ in the thickness of the front part, the shape of the "lock", the number and location of stiffeners. But they have one thing in common - an imitation of a high-quality wooden board.

Perfect surface quality is achieved already at the manufacturing stage Source woodexotic.ru

And although by the type of the front surface of the cladding and the method of joining the panels are more like clapboard or imitation of timber, they are still called "siding".

Metal siding

There are two types of metal from which the facade panels "for siding" are made: aluminum and steel. It is quite clear that the second option is popular for private housing construction because of its higher strength.

The simplest profile is a ship board Source zaborprofil.ru

The technology for the production of steel siding for the facade of a house is the same as that of a profiled sheet or metal shingles - it is a cold-rolled galvanized thin sheet with a protective and decorative coating. And the profile, which has several stiffening ribs, which imitate some kind of wooden sheathing panel, is responsible for the strength to mechanical stress. Therefore, statements that indicate that metal siding is more in demand for cladding commercial or civil buildings than for residential buildings are incorrect.

There are three profile options:

  • Herringbone is a classic siding.
  • Ship board - lining or timber.
  • Block house - rounded log.

Vinyl siding

This is one of the most popular types of facade decoration. The main reason is the affordable price. In addition, polymer panels have sufficient strength (provided that the lathing is correctly performed), simple installation and no less simple maintenance, high resistance to any atmospheric influences, a large palette of colors and textures, and quite an attractive appearance. And in terms of durability, it surpasses any facade board made of natural wood (even taking into account its heat treatment).

Vinyl siding, although it belongs to the "economy option", but can look very attractive Source liversal.com

Of course, the decorative properties of vinyl siding for the facade of the house is lower than that of natural, composite or fiber cement. But this is if we talk about the imitation of wood sheathing - like metal panels, its artificial origin is obvious. And he copies a cladding made of stone or brick quite convincingly.

One of the options for decorating a house with siding is vinyl panels for a stone Source pinterest.co.uk

Vinyl siding novelties include the products of the famous company Vinylit Fassaden GmbH. She has a series of a special type of facade panels, which differs from the standard ones not only by the type of profile, but also by the decorative design - imitation of decorative pebble plaster.

A novelty in our market - siding with the effect of decorative plaster Source okostroy.ru

The cost, as well as the appearance, of such a cladding no longer belongs to the economy class - on average, a "board" with an area of 1 m2 costs almost 2000 rubles. And the explanation is simple - to some extent this siding can be called a composite material made of polymer and natural stone chips, which is literally "recessed" in the front of the panel.

When is the best time to install siding

Facade cladding is a dry building technology. The only stage when mortars can be used is to prepare the surface for installation.

If the brick wall does not have cracks and crumbling areas, then it can be simply treated with an antiseptic primer before sheathing. And this is necessary only if the climate is humid, the house is surrounded by trees (or stands on the leeward side of the hill) and there is a high risk of fungus or mold on a mineral basis in conditions of poor ventilation of the facade.

If it is necessary to sheathe a wooden house, then an antiseptic treatment is required.

Therefore, when they say that the installation of siding can be carried out at any time of the year, they are a little cunning - for the preparatory stage, a positive air temperature is often required (the average daily should be at least + 5 ° C).

Siding installation

Each type of facade panel and each profile has its own installation technology.

Several prerequisites can be called general:

  • cladding is carried out according to the technology of a hinged ventilated facade with simultaneous wall insulation;

Insulation for siding is an obligatory layer of the facade "pie" for our climate Source dekoriko.ru

  • it is necessary to calculate the materials as accurately as possible so that there are no large leftovers left during "busting" and there is no need to buy it if there is a shortage (colored panels from different batches may not have the same shades);
  • there must be a precisely verified zero level at the starting bar or the first panel from the bottom - it is she who is responsible for the "simplicity" and correctness of the sheathing of the entire wall;
  • if the panels have a connecting groove, it should be at the bottom so that moisture does not collect in it;
  • all openings and corner joints must be decorated with appropriate profiles.

The selection contains photographs depicting siding buildings.

Today, more and more people are finishing the facades of private houses with siding. This material appeared with us quite recently, but has already managed to replace many types of cladding used before it. This happened because the siding is not expensive at all, while it has a very aesthetic appearance and is easy to install.

If you decide to finish the facade of the house with siding yourself, then first you need to find out what types of this material are on the market. Among them, the most commonly used are:

  • vinyl siding;
  • metal siding;
  • fiber cement siding.

In addition to the three listed types, there is also a basement siding. It imitates a stone or a tree, and it is almost impossible to understand from a distance that this is not both. Recently, they began to decorate not only the basements of houses, but also the entire facades. This material looks very impressive. Among the options for finishing the facade of the house with siding, you can choose not only various textures, but also combinations of colors and shades.

Vinyl siding is most often used for finishing houses in summer cottages and gardens. Its advantages include:

  • long service life - from half a century;
  • resistance to corrosion;
  • inertness of the material - it does not react with chemicals;
  • relatively low cost;
  • has a rich palette of colors and textures;
  • does not melt and does not burn;
  • prevents the formation of condensation;
  • it is easy to look after him;
  • there is no need for periodic treatment with antiseptic agents and painting.

Metal siding has special edges with holes for fasteners. It is durable, lightfast, and can last 30-35 years. The material is not exposed to high and low temperatures, as well as a harsh climate. Its advantages are as follows:

  • metal siding can be mounted both horizontally and vertically;
  • variety of components;
  • has increased reliability. This applies both to the material itself and to the locks;
  • installation is carried out on any type of surface;
  • works can be carried out in any season;
  • a wide range of all kinds of colors.

Fiber cement siding is made by mixing cement, wood fibers, various additives and water. The mixture then hardens and becomes very strong, waterproof, fire resistant and insect resistant.

A house finished with such material looks very aesthetically pleasing. If over time you get tired of its color, then the fiber cement siding can be painted. In addition, it does not require complex maintenance - it is enough to wash it with plain water.

If you set yourself the task of self-finishing the facade of the house with siding, the photos presented in this article will help you decide on the type of material.

Installation of lathing for siding

You can attach the cladding to any surface. Finishing the facade of a wooden house with siding is carried out on the same principle as finishing a brick house. It is quite simple to do it yourself, the main thing is that the base is even.

To fix the material on the wall, it is necessary to mount the lathing. It can be metal or wood. The first will require u-shaped profiles with a section of 27x60 mm, and the second will require bars of 40 and 70 mm in size. The walls of the house need to be prepared in a certain way, namely:

  • remove window and door trims, as well as all other convex elements;
  • remove dirt and old peeling paint or other finishes;
  • if there is a lining of the lining on the walls, then you should check the reliability of its fastening, fix the loose elements with self-tapping screws;
  • after that, the surface of the walls must be treated with an antiseptic. This is done in order to prevent the development of mold and mildew from accidentally falling under the skin.

Further, markings are applied to the surface of the prepared walls. The distance between the beams or profiles will depend on how dense and heavy the material you choose. The lighter it is, the larger the sheathing step can be and vice versa.

In addition to the weight of the selected type of siding, you must also take into account the presence of strong winds in your area. If they are constantly present, then it is better to reduce the step.

The direction of the battens depends on the direction of installation of the cladding you have chosen. If it will be installed vertically, then the crate should be fixed horizontally and vice versa.

If we are talking about finishing the facade of the house with basement siding, there are exceptions - Dolomite can only be attached to the vertical crate.

For the installation of metal lathing, perforated steel plates are used - suspensions or special brackets. The sequence of work looks like this:

  • we install the profile on both edges of the wall. We will be guided by them, leveling the plane;
  • using a punch, we make holes in the wall according to the markings. Insert plastic dowels into the holes and fix suspensions or brackets;
  • if you want to insulate the facade, then before installing the main profiles, you need to fix the thermal insulation on the wall. For this purpose, a slot is made in the slab of material opposite the suspension, after which the thermal insulation is put on it. In the same way, a film that protects from the wind is mounted under the crate;

  • we attach metal profiles to the brackets at the edges. Between them we stretch a cord or rope along which the rest of the profiles will be aligned;
  • to give the structure additional rigidity, we make lintels from the scraps of the profile and connect them perpendicularly to the main profiles;
  • at the end of the work, it is necessary to check the resulting plane using a level.

Wooden battens are cheaper than metal ones and are much easier to install. Before starting work, the bars are necessarily treated with an antiseptic to prevent the process of decay, as well as the formation of mold and mildew. The sequence of installation of wooden lathing:

  • cut the beams to a length equal to the height of the wall. If the timber is shorter than the wall, then you will need to join it with another piece, but this is best avoided;
  • in the same way as in the previous case, first we fasten the brackets, and already press the bars to them, equalize and fix with self-tapping screws;
  • if you will not lay insulation between the wall and the siding, then the crate can be attached directly to the wall. In this case, through holes are drilled in the bars, through which they are fixed on its surface. To level the lathing, mounting wedges made of plastic or wood are used.

Facade cladding with fiber cement siding

Fiber cement siding, like any other, is produced either in the form of slabs or in the form of long narrow slats. The surface of the material is smooth and embossed. Sequence of work:

  • the material is attached to the crate using steel nails with a small head;
  • each fragment is nailed, retreating from the edge by 2.5 cm. Further, the nail will be closed with the upper plate and will become invisible;
  • panels with a thickness of 12-15 mm can be fixed not only with self-tapping screws, but also with clamps - special brackets that create an invisible fastening;
  • screws are screwed in in thick places, retreating from the edges by 2-3 cm, otherwise chips may appear;
  • steel clamps are attached to vertical profiles with self-tapping screws from 0.5 to 2 cm. Such fasteners have the following advantages:
    • convenience and ease of installation;
    • the cladding remains intact in case of deformation from high temperatures;
    • even load distribution;
    • aesthetic appearance;
    • saving time and effort.

  • after the frame is assembled, installation begins, moving in the direction from bottom to top. Lay out the elements of the material, starting from the architectural features of the house;
  • you need to cut the plates as little as possible and strive for the continuity of the step in height;
  • first mount the basement ebb. The distance from its edge to the ground should be 5-10 cm. It is fixed with self-tapping screws on vertical profiles;
  • after that, the lower row of clamps is installed and the vertical bar is attached to the main vertical profile at the junction between the plates;
  • the first slab is supported on the clamps. At the same time, its end parts abut against the vertical seam bar. The cladding in the upper part is fixed with clamps. The next plate will rest on them;

  • thus, the first row, the second and all subsequent ones are mounted. The horizontal edges of the slabs are joined "in the lock", and the vertical edges are filled with a sealant. Before that, it is better to protect the edges of the siding with masking tape so as not to stain and spoil the view;
  • finishing the inner corners, join the plates at right angles, finishing the outer corners - at an angle of 45 degrees. For the subsequent application of the sealant, it is necessary to provide edges of 0.3-0.5 cm;
  • openings of windows and doors are framed with either steel galvanized with polymer coating, or fiber cement plates.

Finishing the facade of the house with metal siding

By the time the wall cladding begins, the roofing work must be fully completed. You also need to mount the drainage system and complete all manipulations with heavy equipment, such as, for example, a hammer drill. Otherwise, the facing material may be damaged.

Now you can start installing the siding:

  • we attach the starting bar to the wall;
  • sheathe inner and outer corners;
  • we frame the openings of windows and doors;
  • we install a connecting strip, which is an H-shaped profile;
  • we sheathe the facades of the house with siding;
  • fix the finish bar.

In order to properly install the cladding panel, it must be lifted upwards before it is aligned with the starter bar. After the lock clicks, the material will fall into place. Exactly the same way is the installation of vinyl cladding.
