Explanations of church and home prayers. Interpretation of morning prayers. Prayer to the heavenly comforter

“The greatest gift for a person is precisely the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

(From the program “UNITY ”)

“King of Heaven, Comforter, Soul of Truth,
Who is everywhere and fulfills everything,
Treasure of the good and life to the Giver,
come and dwell in us,
and cleanse us from all filthiness,
and save, O Blessed One, our souls.”

For the first time I got acquainted with the prayer to the Holy Spirit while reading the book “Ezoosmos” by Anastasia Novykh. Perhaps I did not understand so much in her mind, but inside she penetrated to the very depths. I felt an extraordinary spiritual trepidation, great gratitude for everything, everything that God has given us, for all His Love for us, His children. Then I returned to this place more than once in the book, each time experiencing this episode as if alive. Deep underground, in a cave, amid fatigue after a long, hard journey through the labyrinths of underground manholes- and suddenly such a solemn, such a penetrating moment, filled with a kind of life-giving force emanating from the very depths, from the depths, from the very source. As is prayer.

“Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and forever and forever and ever. A-mi-i-yin ...

His voice spilled over the hall, filling the space with its solemn sound. Batiushka was silent for a while, apparently listening to the echo, and, obviously left completely satisfied with it, he began to read a prayer to the Holy Spirit:

Heavenly King, Comforter, Soul of Truth, Who is everywhere and fulfills everything, Treasury of the good and Giver of life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save, O Blessed, our souls.

The sound reverberating through the hall really produced an amazing effect. Even goosebumps ran from such powerful vibrations of Father John's voice, resounding from the darkness. This sound gave rise to some kind of inner inspiration, penetrated to the depths of the soul, as if forcing every cell of the body to vibrate in unison with it. When Father John finished reading the prayer, there was absolute silence, thanks to which the last words, like an echo, were repeated in his own mind, accurately reproducing the timbre of the father’s voice to the smallest detail. As if spellbound, we sat motionless, enjoying this amazing sound effect. Batiushka got so excited that he began to conduct an entire church service. He changed intonation and gradually switched to a quiet, monotonous singing of prayers. His voice became velvety, soft, soothing. I closed my eyes. A slight drowsiness swept over my mind.”

(Anastasia Novykh, Ezoosmos)

The sermons of Archbishop Luke were recorded firsthand by the people themselves, reprinted, passed from hand to hand. In Soviet times, of course, all this was done secretly, with a huge risk to life. But such was the faith of the parishioners in the living word, filled with the power of God. I would like to carry this word further ...

The prayer "To the King of Heaven" is also the stichera of the service of Pentecost. We call on the Holy Spirit to come and dwell “in us” and this can be understood in two ways: either we want each of us to become the abode of the Spirit, or we want the Holy Spirit to dwell among us, uniting us into the Body of Christ. But one does not exclude the other. Priest Theodore LUDOGOVSKY comments.

King of Heaven
Comforter,
Spirit of Truth
ubiquitous
and all-filling
Treasury of blessings
and life Giver,
come
and dwell in us
and cleanse us from all filth,
and save, O Good One, our souls.

The prayer "King of Heaven" is addressed to the Third Person of the Holy Trinity - the Holy Spirit, the Life-Giving Lord, who proceeds from the Father (see Creed). The origin and authorship of this prayer is unknown, but there is reason to believe that it originated towards the end of the first millennium of the Christian era.

“To the King of Heaven” is perhaps one of the most famous prayers, along with the “Our Father” (the Lord's Prayer) and the 90th psalm of King David. It is part of the so-called "usual beginning", that is, the sequence of prayers that sounds at the beginning of many services and services, including at the beginning of our usual morning and evening prayers: "King of Heaven", Trisagion, "Most Holy Trinity" , "Our Father".

In addition, there is a custom to read "O Heavenly King" to invoke the Holy Spirit before starting any business. Undoubtedly, one of these things is prayer, church worship. And this, presumably, explains the inclusion of the prayer "O Heavenly King" in the composition of the usual beginning.
Finally, this prayer is one of the stichera of the Pentecost service - and it is precisely this circumstance that has become the reason for our article today. However, let us first consider the text of the prayer itself.

We address the Holy Spirit as the Heavenly King (cf. the beginning of the Lord's Prayer: "Our Father who art in Heaven..."). This address, strictly speaking, is not specific to the Third Hypostasis. So, for example, at Lenten Vespers, the prayer "Heavenly King, confirm the faith ..." is read, which most likely refers to Christ - however, this is not entirely clear; one can also think that it is addressed to the Holy Trinity.

This is followed by the appeal "Comforter" (Greek Παράκλητος). So the Savior called the Holy Spirit in a conversation with the disciples: “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Comforter, that he may be with you forever, the Spirit of truth, Whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him and does not know Him; but you know him, for he abides with you and will be in you” (Jn 14:16-17). In addition to the obvious meaning "one who consoles", this word can also be understood in the meaning of "intermediary", "walk", "intercessor".

About the Holy Spirit, as well as God "in general", we speak as about the omnipresent: "He who is everywhere." The Church Slavonic expression that follows - “do everything” - probably confuses many. As can be seen from the above Russian translation, in this case we are not talking about the fulfillment of our prayers and desires, but all about the same thing - about the omnipresent Deity: "fulfilling everything" means "filling everything with Himself." However, something more can be seen here: the Holy Spirit does not just “mechanically” fill the universe with Himself, but He animates it, every second maintains its existence - otherwise everything would fall apart and fall apart, since the world we see has no other reason for its own emergence and lasting existence besides God.

There is another expression in the Church Slavonic translation of the prayer, which, as one might assume, is misunderstood by many: “The treasure of the good” does not mean at all that the Holy Spirit is some kind of treasure for good people. No, the Life-Giving Spirit is the treasury of blessings, the receptacle and source of all that is good and good.

Further, we call the Spirit the giver of life - here it is appropriate to recall another hymn that sounds quite often at the vigil: “In the Holy Spirit every soul is alive, and exalted with purity ...”
All those words and expressions that were just discussed - all this was an appeal, which occupies about two-thirds of the prayer. And then comes the pleading part.
What do we ask God the Holy Spirit? We ask Him to come and dwell "in us". The latter can be understood in two ways (and one understanding by no means excludes the other): either we want each of us to become the abode of the Spirit, the temple of God; or (cf. John 1:14) - so that the Holy Spirit dwells among us, between us, uniting us into one body of Christ.

Then we ask that the Spirit, having settled in us, cleanse us of all filth - that is, from passions, from sin - and that He, the Good (i.e., good) will save our souls, that is, would deliver us from the power of the world, the devil and, again, our own passions, and that He would grant us the Kingdom of Heaven - that is, His own Kingdom (see the beginning of the prayer).

As mentioned above, the prayer "To the King of Heaven" is part of the service of the feast of Pentecost (in other words, the Day of the Holy Trinity). Recall that this prayer is not read in the period from Pascha to Pentecost: during the Paschal period it is replaced by three readings (or singing) of the troparion of Pascha, and from Ascension to Pascha it is not replaced by anything at all - and this significant absence emphasizes the tension with which the Church every year awaits the day of the sending of the Holy Spirit. And on the day of Pentecost, after seven weeks of a kind of abstinence, the prayer “To the King of Heaven” sounds again (it is often sung by the people) - first at the great vespers, as the penultimate stichera on the verse, and then twice at matins - after the 50th psalm and before the great doxology (instead of the usual "Blessed be Thou, Virgin Mother of God ..."). From that day on, "O Heavenly King" is read daily until the first day of Pascha.

Religious reading: a prayer to the comforting spirit to help our readers.

Heavenly King, Comforter, Spirit of truth, who dwells everywhere and fills everything, Source of blessings and Giver of life, come and dwell in us and cleanse us from all sin and save our souls, Good One.

This prayer is sung in the temple before the start of the prayer service, and is also read or sung before the start of any work to call on the Holy Spirit to help.

Prayer to the comforting spirit

Archpriest Seraphim Slobodskoy

Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Heavenly King, Comforter, Soul of Truth, who is everywhere and fills everything, the treasure of the good and the Giver of life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save, O Blessed, our souls.

Heavenly King, Comforter Spirit of Truth, who is everywhere and fills everything, the source of all goodness and the Giver of life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all sin and save our souls, Good One.

to the king- Tsar; Comforter– Comforter; Soul of truth– Spirit of Truth, Spirit of Truth; Izhe- Which the; Syi- existing, located; fulfill all- all filling; treasure of the good- a treasury, a receptacle of all blessings, all goodness; life to the Giver– Giver of life; come and settle down- come and settle in us- in us; from all evil- from all impurity, that is, from all sins; Bliss- good, kind.

In this prayer we pray to the Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Holy Trinity.

We call it the Holy Spirit King of Heaven because He, as the true God, equal to God the Father and God the Son, reigns invisibly over us, owns us and the whole world. Call Him Comforter because He comforts us in our sorrows and misfortunes, just as He comforted the apostles on the 10th day after the ascension of Jesus Christ into heaven.

Call Him Spirit of truth, (as the Savior Himself called Him), because He, like the Holy Spirit, teaches everyone only one truth, truth, only that which is useful for us and serves for our salvation.

He is God, and He is everywhere and fills everything with Himself: ilk, everywhere present and fulfilling all. He, as the manager of the whole world, sees everything and, where necessary, gives. He is treasure of the good, that is, the keeper of all good deeds, the source of all the good that only we need to have.

We call the Holy Spirit life giver because everything in the world lives and moves by the Holy Spirit, that is, everything receives life from Him, and especially people receive from Him spiritual, holy and eternal life after the grave, being cleansed from their sins through Him.

If the Holy Spirit has such marvelous properties: He is everywhere, fills everything with His grace and gives life to everyone, then we turn to Him with the following requests: Come and settle in us, that is, constantly abide in us, as in your temple; cleanse us from all filth that is, sin, make us holy, worthy of Your presence in us, and save, Kind, our souls from sins and those punishments that are for sins, and through this grant us the Kingdom of Heaven.

QUESTIONS: To whom do we address this prayer? Holy Spirit what Person of the Holy Trinity? What is He called in this prayer? Why - the King of Heaven, the Comforter, the Spirit of truth, who is everywhere, filling everything? What are we asking Him for? What does it mean: come and dwell in us? and cleanse from all filth? and save, O God, our souls?

King of Heaven

King of Heaven- the abbreviated name of the prayer to the Holy Spirit, which begins with the words: “To the King of Heaven, the Comforter, the Soul of Truth ...” From Easter to Ascension, instead of this prayer, the Easter troparion “Christ is risen ...” is read, and from Ascension to the Day of the Holy Trinity it is not read.

Heavenly King, Comforter, Soul of Truth, Who is everywhere and fills everything, Treasury of good things and Giver of life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save, O Blessed, our souls.

Soul is spirit. Izhe - which. Siy - existing, abiding. Fulfill everything - fill everything. A treasure is a repository, a source. Good - good. Indwell in us - indwell in us. Filth is sin.

Translation: King of Heaven, Comforter (Counsellor, Mentor), Spirit of truth, everywhere present (located) and filling everything (with His presence), Treasury of goodness and Giver of life, come and settle in us, cleanse us from all sin and save, Pre-good, our souls.

In this prayer we pray to the Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Holy Trinity. We call the Holy Spirit in it the King of Heaven, because He, as true God, equal to God the Father and God the Son, invisibly reigns over us, owns us and the whole world.

We call him the Comforter, because He comforts us in our sorrows and misfortunes.

We call Him the Spirit of truth (as the Savior Himself called Him), because He, like the Holy Spirit, teaches everyone only one truth, truth, only that which is useful for us and serves for our salvation. He is God, and He is everywhere and fills everything with Himself: He who is everywhere and fills everything.

He, as the manager of the whole world, sees everything and, where necessary, gives. He is the treasure of the good, that is, the keeper of all good deeds, the source of all the good that one needs to have.

We call the Holy Spirit - the Giver of life, because everything in the world lives and moves by the Holy Spirit, that is, everything receives life from Him, and especially people receive from Him spiritual, holy and eternal life after the grave, being cleansed through Him from their sins.

We turn to Him with a request: “Come and dwell in us”, that is, constantly abide in us, as in your temple, cleanse us from all filth, that is, sin, make us saints, worthy of Your presence in us, and Save us, Good Source of the highest good, our souls from sins and through this grant us the Kingdom of Heaven.

Prayer to the comforting spirit

Heavenly King, Comforter, Soul of Truth, Who is everywhere and fills everything, Treasury of good things and Giver of life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save, O Blessed, our souls.

Holy Trinity, have mercy on us; Lord, cleanse our sins; Lord, forgive our iniquities; Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities, for Your name's sake.

Our Father, Who art in heaven! Hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, as in heaven and on earth. Give us our daily bread today; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

I believe in one God the Father, Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, visible to all and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Only Begotten, who was born of the Father before all ages; Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, uncreated, consubstantial with the Father, Whom all was. For us for the sake of man and for our sake of salvation, he descended from heaven and became incarnate from the Holy Spirit and Mary the Virgin, and became human. Crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered, and was buried. And resurrected on the third day according to the Scriptures. And ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of the Father. And the packs of the future with glory to judge the living and the dead, His Kingdom will have no end. And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Life-Giving One, Who proceeds from the Father, Who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who spoke the prophets. Into one Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the remission of sins. I look forward to the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the age to come. Amen.

Virgin Mother of God, rejoice, Blessed Mary, the Lord is with you; Blessed are You in women and blessed is the Fruit of Your womb, as if the Savior gave birth to our souls.

It is worthy to eat as truly blessed Thee, the Mother of God, the Blessed and Immaculate and Mother of our God. The most honest Cherubim and the most glorious without comparison Seraphim, without the corruption of God the Word, who gave birth to the real Mother of God, we magnify Thee.

Having seen the Resurrection of Christ, let us worship the Holy Lord Jesus, the only sinless one. We worship Thy Cross, O Christ, and we sing and glorify Thy Holy Resurrection: Thou art our God, unless we know Thee otherwise, we call Thy name. Come, all faithful, let us worship the Holy Resurrection of Christ: behold, the joy of the whole world has come through the Cross. Always blessing the Lord, let us sing of His Resurrection: having endured the crucifixion, destroy death by death.

My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.

Chorus: The most honest Cherubim and the most glorious without comparison Seraphim, without the corruption of God the Word, who gave birth to the present Mother of God, We magnify Thee.

As if looking at the humility of His servant, from now on, all will please Me.

Yako do me greatness, O Strong One, and holy is His name, and His mercy from generation to generation to those who fear Him.

Create power with Your arm, squander their hearts with proud thoughts.

Depose the strong from the throne, and exalt the humble; fill the hungry with good things, and let go of the rich.

He will accept His servant Israel, remember mercy, as if speaking to our fathers, Abraham and his seed, even to the age.

Now let your servant go, Master, according to your word in peace; for my eyes have seen your salvation, if you have prepared before the face of all people, a light in the revelation of tongues, and the glory of your people Israel.

Have mercy on me, O God, according to Thy great mercy, and according to the multitude of Thy mercies, cleanse my iniquity. Wash me most of all from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin; for I know my iniquity, and my sin before me is taken out. I have sinned against you alone and done evil before you; as if you were justified in your words, and conquered when you judge Ty. Behold, I was conceived in iniquity, and in sins give birth to me, my mother. Behold, thou hast loved the truth; the unknown and secret wisdom of Thy revealed to me. Sprinkle me with hyssop, and I will be cleansed; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Give joy and joy to my hearing; the bones of the humble will rejoice. Turn Your face away from my sins and cleanse all my iniquities. Create a pure heart in me, O God, and renew a right spirit in my womb. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Give me the joy of Your salvation and confirm me with the Sovereign Spirit. I will teach the wicked in Your way, and the wicked will turn to You. Deliver me from the blood, O God, God of my salvation, my tongue will rejoice in Your righteousness. Lord, open my mouth, and my mouth will proclaim your praise. As if you would have desired sacrifices, you would have given them: you do not favor burnt offerings. Sacrifice to God the spirit is broken; a contrite and humble heart God will not despise. Please, O Lord, with Thy favor Zion, and let the walls of Jerusalem be built. Then be pleased with the sacrifice of righteousness, an offering and a burnt offering; then they will offer bullocks on your altar.

Reverend Moses Murin

Oh, the great power of repentance! O immeasurable depth of God's mercy! You, Reverend Moses, were formerly a robber. You were horrified by your sins, grieved over them, and in repentance came to the monastery, and there, in great lamentation for your iniquities and in difficult deeds, you spent your days until your death and were rewarded with Christ's grace of forgiveness and the gift of miracles. Oh, reverend, from grave sins he has achieved wonderful virtues, help the slaves (name) praying to you, who are drawn to death from the fact that they indulge in immeasurable, harmful to the soul and body, the use of wine. Incline your merciful eyes on them, do not reject or despise them, but listen to them who come running to you. Moth, holy Moses, Lord of Christ, that He, the Merciful, not reject them, and may the devil not rejoice at their death, but may the Lord spare these powerless and unfortunate (name), who were possessed by the destructive passion of drunkenness, because we are all God's creations and redeemed by the Most Pure By the blood of his Son. Hear, Reverend Moses, their prayer, drive away the devil from them, grant them the power to overcome their passion, help them, stretch out your hand, lead them out of the slavery of passions and deliver them from drinking wine, so that they are renewed, in sobriety and a bright mind, love abstinence and piety and eternally glorified the All-good God, who always saves his creatures. Amen".

Tea of the Resurrection of the dead and the life of the age to come. Amen".

Prayer of spouses without children

“Hear us, Merciful and Almighty God, may Your grace be sent down by our prayer. Be merciful, Lord, to our prayer, remember Your law on the multiplication of the human race and be a merciful Patron, so that by Your help the established by You will be preserved. By Your powerful power You created everything out of nothing and laid the foundation for everything that exists in the world - You also created man in Your image and sanctified the union of matrimony with a high mystery as a foreshadowing of the mystery of Christ's unity with the Church. Look, Merciful, on us, Thy servants, united by the union of conjugal union and pleading for Thy help, may Thy mercy be upon us, may we be fruitful and may we see the sons of our sons even to the third and fourth generation and to the desired old age they will live and enter into The kingdom of heaven is by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, to whom all glory, honor and worship is due with the Holy Spirit forever. Amen."

Waking up in the morning, mentally say the following words:

“In the hearts is the Lord God, in front is the Holy Spirit; help me start the day with you, live it and finish it.”

Going on a long journey or just for some business, it’s good to mentally say:

“My angel, come with me: you are in front, I am behind you.” And the Guardian Angel will help you in any endeavor.

To improve your life, it is good to read the following prayer daily:

“Lord, merciful, in the name of Jesus Christ and the Power of the Holy Spirit, save, save and have mercy on me, the servant of God (name). Remove damage from me, the evil eye and bodily pain forever. Lord, merciful, cast the demon out of me, a servant of God. Merciful Lord, heal me, servant of God (name). Amen".

If you have anxiety for loved ones, say the following prayer until peace comes:

“Lord, save, save, have mercy on (names of relatives). Everything will be fine with them!”

Heavenly King, Comforter, Soul of Truth, Who is everywhere and fills everything, Treasury of good things and Giver of life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save, O Blessed, our souls.

This prayer is read and sung many times at the festive service of Pentecost and is included in the number of initial prayers of almost all church services and home rule (in particular, morning prayers and for bedtime). Why is it one of the first to read? - So that during our prayer Spirit Himself interceded for us with inexpressible sighs(Rom. 8:26).

Before proceeding to explain this prayer, familiar to all of us, let us remember Who the Holy Spirit is and what His action is in man.

The Holy Spirit is a Divine Person, the Third Person of the Holy Trinity, the King of Heaven, the Comforter, the Spirit of truth, penetrating and filling everything, the Source of blessings and the Giver of Life (Life-Giving). He is the true God, eternally (out of time) comes from the Father. The Holy Spirit has omniscience, omnipresence, omnipotence, the ability to work miracles, cleanse people from sin, regenerate and sanctify their souls, and help them in doing good deeds. Inspired books were written by His intuition, He put the words of God into the mouths of the prophets and apostles. He descended on the apostles in the form of tongues of fire on the day of Pentecost.

The Holy Spirit is constantly at work in the Church of Christ. By its action during the Liturgy, a great Sacrament is performed: the transposition of the Holy Gifts - bread and wine - into the Body and Blood of Christ. During the Sacrament of Confirmation, which takes place immediately after Baptism, the Holy Spirit descends on a person and puts into his soul the seed of a new grace-filled life in Christ. Further, it depends on the person himself (and his relatives, if Baptism occurred in infancy) whether this good seed will sprout and bear fruit or be drowned out by weeds.

The Monk Seraphim of Sarov taught that the goal of a Christian's life is the acquisition of the Holy Spirit, that is, such a state of a person when the Holy Spirit incomprehensibly dwells in him and dwells in him, introducing him to the fullness of Divine life. Explaining this to his disciple N. Motovilov, Father Seraphim was transformed: his face shone like the sun. And then, through his prayer, the Lord gave Motovilov to experience the power of the action of the Holy Spirit: peace, silence, joy, warmth, sweetness, fragrance and light that exceed any earthly idea.

We call a person holy if he has acquired (that is, acquired) the Holy Spirit. The fruits of the Spirit in such a person are righteousness and truth (see Eph. 5:9), love, joy, peace, longsuffering, goodness, mercy, faith, meekness, temperance(Gal. 5:22-23).

What does it take to acquire these wonderful qualities? - Trust every word of Christ and try to live according to His will, seek more heavenly than earthly things, try to love everyone and not offend anyone, repent of sins and beg the Lord to save us. Let us not forget that spiritual work is not so much an external achievement (prayers, frequent participation in divine services, etc.) as painstaking, constant forcing oneself to fulfill the commandments of God in thoughts, desires, words and deeds. (We know all this, but we are lazy - we think that this is how, lying on a warm stove, we will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. However, thank God, we are doing at least something - maybe the long-suffering Lord, who took two mites, will look down on us, negligent.) In all these small labors of ours, the Lord the Holy Spirit helps us. He gives grace in the sacraments of the Church, in prayers at home; Our churches are filled with it, help is given to them through our prayer from holy icons and relics.

Let us pray together with the Apostle Paul, so that God ... gave US Spirit of wisdom and revelation to the knowledge of Him, and enlightened the eyes of the heart ours so that we know what is the hope of his calling, and what a richness of his glorious inheritance is for the saints, and how immeasurably is the greatness of his power in us(Eph. 1:17-19). And let's not forget the words of the Savior: Heavenly Father will give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him(Luke 11:13).

Now let's move on to explaining the prayer itself.

1. King, Comforter, Soul, Giver, Bliss- these are forms of the vocative case (now lost). Translated into modern language, these words sound like this: King, Comforter, Spirit, Giver, Good.

2. King of Heaven. We call the Holy Spirit King, Lord of the Kingdom of Heaven as God and the Third Person of the Holy Trinity.

"Heavenly" means spiritual, not earthly. The Kingdom of Heaven is also called paradise, "the life of the future age", "new heaven", "Heavenly Jerusalem" (the latter names refer to the time of the Second Coming of the Savior). In it blissful (are in eternal joy and mutual love) angelic forces and the souls of the righteous, for whom the Source of love and light, beyond all understanding, is God. There is no evil in the Kingdom of Heaven, including death.

The Lord has commanded us, above all things earthly, to seek the Kingdom of God, which is hidden in our hearts. “The ladder (ladder) leading to the Kingdom is inside you, hidden in your soul,” says the great ascetic of the 7th century, Rev. Isaac the Syrian.

3. Comforter means "Called for help, Patron, Intercessor." The Greek verb "comfort" also means "to calm, pacify, console in sorrow, convince, instruct to a virtuous life."

4. Soul of truth- The Spirit of truth, revealing to man the truth about himself and the visible and invisible world around him (that is, about the meaning of his life, the spiritual laws of being, heaven and hell, etc.), admonishing and instructing people on the true path of God, putting words in the mouth of prophets and confessors: The Spirit of your Father will speak in you(Matthew 10:20).

Before His death on the Cross, the Lord said to His disciples: When the Comforter comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will testify about me and guide you into all truth.(John 15, 26; 16, 13); But the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and remind you of everything that I have told you(John 14:26). After the Ascension of Christ, the Holy Spirit directly instructed and admonished the disciples who preached about Christ and His Kingdom.

5. Who is everywhere and fulfills everything- Which abides everywhere and fills everything (the whole world, the whole being).

6. treasure of the good- Source, Treasury of all that is good, kind.

7. Life Giver. The Holy Spirit gives life to the whole world, to all living things, that is, it animates, and it also gives people Divine, eternal life, that is, it inspires, provided that they seek, hunger and thirst for this life.

8. In us - in us.

9. Cleanse us from all filth. The Holy Spirit cleanses the faithful and humble in heart from sinful filth. This is necessary, since nothing bad can enter the "paradise of sweetness" of the Kingdom of Heaven. In the earthly world, Christ dwells only in those souls that are cleansed by sincere repentance.

10. Bliss. The Holy Spirit is called good as one of the persons of the Holy Trinity, for no one is good but God alone(Mark 10:18).

11. Save... our souls. The most important thing for a person is the salvation of his soul. That is why the Lord came to earth. This is what we plead with the Holy Spirit. If it is important to save a person's earthly life, then it is incomparably more important to save his eternal soul.

About prayer. Mistakes and temptations during prayer
Author: Archpriest Arkady Steinberg
The first and most serious mistake in the prayer business is the lack of prayer. This happens either because a person has never prayed and does not know how to start it (and often - and why? ..), or because the "cares of this world" have so weakened a person that there is no longer room for God in his life.

To a lonely woman about prayer
Author: St. Nicholas of Serbia
You are grieved that God does not hear your prayers ... Do not complain about Him from Whom we have both being, and life, and breath, and mind, and everything. I beg you, do not complain about Him Who has a thousand times more right to complain about us before His angels and His saints.
Even if the Lord did not literally fulfill our prayers, they still bear fruit for our souls, making our souls more mature and rich. This is the secret that those who walk the path of spiritual experience have come to know.

The prayer "O Heavenly King" is one of the main prayers in Orthodoxy. It must be read during every church service. It is also considered a home prayer, which is recommended to be read in the morning after waking up and immediately before going to bed. In addition, there is a tradition to read the prayer "King of Heaven" with the goal of invoking the Holy Spirit into your life before any undertakings.

The origin and authorship of this prayer appeal is unknown. It is clear that this prayer goes back to ancient times with horses. Most clergy are inclined to believe that it arose approximately at the end of the first millennium of the Christian era.

In the prayer text "To the King of Heaven" one of the incarnations of our Almighty Lord is sung. This is done infrequently and is due to the fact that the knowledge of believers is based on the Old Testament. And in it, the mention of the Holy Spirit occurs three times: twice in the book of the prophet Isaiah and once in 50 psalms.

But the power of the Holy Spirit is certainly known to all believers. Every Christian knows that the Holy Spirit descended to the Savior at the time of Baptism. He also came to the Holy Apostles before they went to preach.

Very often, believers have difficulties in understanding the image of God in three forms, but at the same time Inseparable and Consubstantial. It is on this dogma that the Orthodox Christian doctrine is based. In order to clearly explain, the clergy use an earthly comparison - the image of a woman.

It can be at the same time:

  • mother,
  • daughter
  • sister.

In general, in the Christian religion, the Holy Spirit is a certain independent entity. He represents an incorporeal creature that is able to permeate the world of the dead and the living. The Holy Spirit has no character, face, or emotions. But he is able to fill a person with Divine power and bestow blessings. It is through the Holy Spirit that Baptism is carried out. It is noteworthy that, due to incorporeality and invisibility, the Holy Spirit cannot act independently, but at the same time it can take various forms. The most popular image of the Holy Spirit is the dove.

It has been fixed since the beginning of the Christian religion.

The text of the prayer "To the King of Heaven, the Comforter, the Soul of Truth" in Russian

In Russian, the prayer sounds like this:

"O Heavenly King, Comforter, Soul of Truth,
You are everywhere and you can do everything.
You are the Treasure of blessings and life Giver,
Come and dwell in us, cleanse us of various filth,
And save, Holy Spirit, our souls.

Prayer text with emphasis

In order to correctly place the accents, one should understand what the prayer is about. Despite the brevity of the prayer appeal, it has a deep meaning.

This prayer contains an appeal to the Holy Spirit, as to the Heavenly King. The appeal “Comforter” is connected with the fact that this is how the Holy Spirit was called by Jesus Christ himself. In one of the conversations with his disciples, he promised that he would beg the Father to give the people another Comforter, who would stay with them forever. It will be the Spirit of Truth, which will be very difficult for people to accept, since it will be invisible. The combination of the words "Comforter" and "Soul of Truth" can be understood as "intermediary" or "intercessor".

The Holy Spirit is said in prayer to be present everywhere. This definition also applies to God. What follows is a confirmation that the Holy Spirit can do anything. By this is meant not only all the desires and requests of a sincerely believing person. Such a phrase indicates that the Holy Spirit fills the whole world around us and animates it. Every moment he maintains the existence of the world as a whole, otherwise everything will be destroyed. That is, this prayer focuses on the fact that God is the Creator and Creator.

The treasure of blessings means the source of mercy and all that is good. Since in the Old Slavonic version this phrase sounds like “The Treasure of the Good”, it should not be understood that the Holy Spirit is in itself a treasure for people.

In the prayer address, the Holy Spirit is called the "Giver of Life." This is an emphasis on the fact that every righteous soul is nourished by the Holy Spirit. This is what is affirmed in many church hymns.

After the appeal comes the pleading part of the prayer. First of all, the one who prays remembers that the Holy Spirit will come and dwell in us. This is understood in two ways. That is, on the one hand, we want each of us to receive the Holy Spirit and become his abode, and on the other hand, each of us has a desire for the Holy Spirit to dwell among us, and therefore unite us, excluding disagreements and quarrels. But it should be understood that neither statement excludes the other, they are fully compatible.

Further, in a prayer appeal, we turn to the Holy Spirit to cleanse us from various filth. By this is meant a request for forgiveness of sins and protection from the devil's temptations. We want the Good, which means the good Holy Spirit, to help save our souls and give hope for the Kingdom of Heaven.

In order to understand the essence of the prayer appeal to the Holy Spirit, you need to deeply understand this very concept in religion. You should know that even before a person becomes a Christian, the Holy Spirit already influences him.

As early as childhood, the Holy Spirit begins to communicate what has been done. And he does this by using such an internal characteristic of a person as conscience. It is through her that the Higher Power addresses a person and takes part in the formation of his character. If it happens that a person continues to act not according to conscience, and does not pay attention to the signs that are given from above, then the Holy Spirit leaves him.

The Holy Spirit, indwelling a person, brings him closer to God and eventually leads him to him. This means that a person receives reliable protection from the Lord God, because the Almighty loves each of us, therefore he does not even abandon sinners in difficult times, trying to teach them to live according to the commandments of God and guide them on the true path. Moreover, the Lord leads us to this truth through the Holy Spirit.

In every person who sincerely believes in God and decides to live according to the laws of the church, the Holy Spirit comes, inhabits him and lives inside such a person. Thus, the Lord promotes spiritual growth, and at the moment when a Christian begins to sincerely repent of his own sins, he feels that he has been heard by some Power. And that power is the Holy Spirit.

A believer is always humble. They never exaggerate their merits, they are not characterized by pride and they never deceive. Nor do they commit any other sinful acts. It is these features that indicate that the Holy Spirit is present in a person. The main gift of the Holy Spirit is the fear of God. In this case, a person understands that he cannot consider himself self-sufficient, since everything in this world depends on the Lord God. Only after realizing all the greatness of the Lord, a person is given to see the reality of the surrounding world. A sincere believer in time can, listening to the inner voice, make the right decisions and make the right choice. It is also proof of the presence of the Holy Spirit.
