The original frame for the mirror can be made independently, for this we need:
- free-form mirror;
- fiberboard sheet;
- hacksaw;
- glue;
- brushes;
- wood primer;
- paints for ceramics;
- decor elements - shells, fragments of colored glass, ceramics.
Frame manufacturing steps:
- On a piece of paper, draw a sketch of the future frame.
- Transfer the sketch to the fiberboard and cut out the shape.
- Coat the plate with a primer, let dry.
- Apply background paint to the form, you can choose different options: with the effect of gold or silver, imitating natural stone.
- After the paint has dried, place a mirror in the center of the mold and lay out a pattern of shells, glass or ceramics around it.
- Glue the mirror and decor with glue, press it with something heavy.
- After the glue has dried, attach loops to the back of the plate. Mirror done!
To create a mirror of the original shape, you can prepare a stencil and cut a blank from the mirror using it.
In order to cut a mirror, you will need a glass cutter, a small hammer, a long metal ruler, special pliers with rubber gaskets.
Stages of working with a mirror:
- Clean the mirror from dirt and dust, rinse with a solution of soda.
- Put the mirror on a flat surface and attach a stencil to it and make a markup.
- Attach the ruler to the marking line, stepping back 3 mm for a diamond glass cutter and 1 mm for a roller glass cutter.
- Holding the glass cutter strictly perpendicular to the mirror, draw a line.
- Move the mirror to the edge of the table so that the cutting line protrudes 5 mm.
- Grab the cut edge firmly with both hands and press down.
- If a thick mirror is used, a hammer will come to the rescue, with which you need to knock on the part to be broken off.
- For thin, use pliers, which bite off excess pieces.
To decorate the sharp edges of a mirror with straight edges, a baguette is used, cut into pieces of the desired size.
Before inserting the mirror into the frame, a rubber gasket is put on its ends, which can be an ordinary medical hose with a diameter of 10 mm, cut along.
Where to hang?
When choosing a place where to hang a mirror in the hallway, you need to be guided by the following principles:
- If there is a window in the hallway, the mirror should be placed opposite it. Then the room will be much lighter.
- If the mirror is large, it should be hung so that you can see yourself as a whole.
- If you follow the rules of Feng Shui, the mirror should not be hung in front of the door, because it will not let positive energy into the house. On the other hand, it is believed that a mirror located opposite the front door will reflect all the negative external energy.
The mirror can be placed on the wall or on the walls of the wardrobe. The standard option is to hang it on the wall. The arrangement of mirrors on the doors and walls of the wardrobe saves space.
You can use multiple mirrors. If the mirrors play a purely decorative role, they are placed accordingly, decorating them in the style of the hallway interior.
How to hang?
After you managed to determine the location of the mirror, you need to hang it in the chosen place. If the mirror has loops on the reverse side, you need to drive hooks into the wall and hang the mirror.
Lightweight mirror can be attached to any surface with a special glue "liquid nails for mirrors".
