I passed the purchased timber through a thickness gauge and a trimming, on a circular with a homemade device (a high parallel stop with guides and rulers of 0.5 mm) made spikes and a profile, glued it, chose the hardware grooves with a milling cutter, hung the fittings - checked how it works, removed, sanded for painting. Since the double-glazed window is planned to be two-chamber, the total section of the timber is 80x78 mm.

If the equipment and experience allows, the frame elements are cut obliquely, at an angle of 45, it is possible to join without a bevel, although it is less decorative, but technically easier. The parts are assembled for a tenon-groove connection, with the vertical parts being the lugs, and the horizontal parts being the tenons. It is easier to make a single joint, but a double one is stronger and more durable, since the gluing area increases, and a triple thorn is even stronger. I made three spikes for myself and put them on PU D4 glue, on another glue and one spike under a glass unit, I would probably put a corner. As a check, you can glue one corner and test it for strength and deformation by loading the hypotenuse with a mass of one and a half glass units. Dried timber of the required thickness, neither solid nor glued, was not on sale at that time, it was necessary to get by with a material with a smaller section. But the timber was caught dry, already planed from all sides. The frames were glued onto a smooth joint due to the lack of a comb of a suitable width. To be on the safe side, the structure was reinforced with self-tapping screws - obliquely, from edge to center (the fastener heads will later be hidden in a quarter). Before cutting the thorn-groove, I prepared the grooves for the locks - I made a template from a bent steel corner. Holes - 8 mm in diameter, screw hole - 10 mm in diameter. First, mark the centers, then drill 8 holes - depth 26 mm. I set the stop and with a hand router combined the holes into a groove, dimensions: depth 28 mm, width 8 mm. There were no length stops - the groove borders are felt to the touch.

Chamfers, assembly, debugging

A cut or rounded corner is covered with a thicker layer of paints and varnishes than an acute one, therefore, it is more resistant to all external influences. Forum user Sukhov76, who made himself wooden windows, advises his own method.

Instead of chamfers at 45⁰, it is better to round the corner by a radius of 3 mm - it looks more aesthetically pleasing and lies well under the paint. Paints and varnishes are "afraid" of sharp edges, according to the law of surface tension, on sharp surfaces the paintwork layer is thinner, and according to the law of meanness, it is the edges that are the most vulnerable to use, and the coating wears off faster, but on the radius the layer is even and harder to damage it.

The assembled window frames and sashes are sanded and treated with special impregnations, then varnished or painted.
