Hide

With the arrival of warm weather, we open the windows, but along with the fresh air, insects often get into the apartment. Fastening mosquito nets to plastic windows has become the most popular way to keep small guests in apartments. Let's try to figure out how to choose and correctly place mosquito nets on plastic windows so that they serve well and for a long time.

Features of fastening a mosquito net

A mosquito net is an aluminum or plastic profile with a mesh tightened into it. There are several types of grids:

  • frame - installation on window frames;
  • sliding - mounting on runners (guides);
  • roll - a drum with a mesh is mounted above the window (door) and spins up as needed;
  • door - installation on a doorway;
  • anti-cat / anti-dust - modified nets that protect windows from dust and animal claws.

  • Z-shaped brackets (corners);
  • eraser flags (lambs);
  • pins (plungers);
  • metal hooks (hooks);
  • on skids (rollers);
  • on the hinges.

The choice of a mount for a mosquito net on plastic windows should be based on the type of mesh and the design of the window - the most common method is a mosquito net on metal mounts, mounted using Z-shaped brackets, but on sliding windows, mosquito nets are fastened on guides.

Types of mosquito net fastening

Mounting the mosquito net on the window with Z-shaped brackets

As a rule, when buying a ready-made mosquito net, Z-shaped brackets come with it together with self-tapping screws. The brackets are plastic or metal, but this does not affect the installation method.

Tip: if you were offered a plastic mosquito net holder in the kit, then you need to remember that the plastic can turn yellow and crack from sunlight, temperature drops and other "bad weather", so if you plan to use the same holders for several seasons, purchase metal brackets.

This type of fastening implies installation from the outside of the window. If you decide to do the installation of a mosquito net with your own hands, then you will need: a screwdriver (Phillips screwdriver), tape measure, pencil, self-tapping screws.

Procedure for installing the mesh with Z-brackets:

  • On the outside of the window, mark the attachment points for the brackets, 2 at the bottom and 2 at the top.

Tip: do not try to choose a place for fastening closer to the corners, on the contrary, fasten the mesh closer to the center, because the edges at the profile are rigid and fit snugly against the window frame, and the center may move slightly and give insects the opportunity to enter the house.

  • Use a screwdriver or screwdriver to drill the mounting holes on the frame.

Important! Some types of windows are equipped with openings on the outside for ventilation and condensation drainage, under no circumstances should they be used for fastening.

  • Attach the brackets to the frame - longer up, shorter down.

Tip: For ease of installation, glue the mosquito net bracket to the desired place with masking tape and screw through it, this will help to avoid the mount from shifting or falling.

  • Insert the mesh.

Installation of a mosquito net with plastic flags

The most obvious advantage of this fastening is the tight fit of the mesh around the entire perimeter of the window.

Important! This method of fastening is most optimal for the windows of the first floors, since during installation it is necessary to stick out strongly from the window to the outside.

When installing plastic flags, the procedure is almost the same as for fastening with z-shaped brackets, the difference in the location of the fittings and in the method of fastening the mesh. The flags are mounted on the corner part of the frame from both sides, so that each corner of the mesh is tightly pressed against the frame, but after inserting the mesh, the flags must be turned and tightened from the outside of the window.

The plunger is a prefabricated mount that consists of a metal rod, a spring and a cap. To install a mosquito net with internal fastening, you only need a drill - holes are made on the profile of the window frame and the mosquito net, then a pair of plungers are inserted into the mesh frame, pulled and the mesh is placed in the window frame, where the plungers are straightened and fit into the holes, then the fasteners are tightened. The procedure is quite simple, but requires some skill.

Important! With this method of fastening, it is advised to glue felt or pile (sometimes it comes in the kit) around the perimeter of the mesh, for better protection from insects and dust.

This type of fastening is suitable for windows equipped with bars or windows with small slopes, but it is worth remembering that the mesh is inserted into the window opening, thereby reducing its clearance by its width.

Installation of a mosquito net with metal hooks

Metal hooks help to attach the mosquito net to the window opening from the inside - the hooks are screwed to the mesh frame 2 at the top and bottom, then it is inserted into the window opening. Hooks hold the mesh on the window opening, preventing it from moving.

Important! Such holders are one of the easiest to install, but at the same time the most unreliable - in strong winds, the fasteners may not hold the mesh and let it fall out of the window.

Installation of a sliding mosquito net

The mosquito net on the guides is installed on the sliding windows - it is fixed at the top and bottom with runners and rollers that ensure its free movement. Self-installation of such a holder for a mosquito net on plastic windows is quite troublesome, therefore it is recommended to resort to the help of specialists.

Advantages of a sliding mosquito net:

  • Convenience - if the mesh is installed correctly, but it will easily move around the entire window, in addition, such a mesh can be installed on a sliding balcony door.
  • Functionality - since the mesh is attached, as a rule, from the inside, the width of the canvas can be adjusted and one large mesh can be installed over the entire clearance.
  • Durability Aluminum mesh parts are designed for long lasting performance.

Well, and the last advantage of such a fastening for the mesh on the windows is aesthetics - the mosquito net will become a continuation of the window, and the absence of fastening elements in prominent places will not irritate the eye.

Such an attachment for a mosquito net, as a rule, is performed on doorways. Mounts are of two types:

  • standard;
  • reinforced (with a closer).

They are mounted from the outside like regular door hinges, helping to protect the apartment from insects.

Important! When installing the mosquito net on the door, do not forget to mount the latch, as the hinged mesh can move away from the opening under the wind flow.

Outcome

Fasteners for mosquito nets on plastic windows are an important element in creating comfort and one should not rely on ease of installation in determining the choice of fastening, it is necessary to rely on reliability, because it is the reliable protection from insects in the house that the mosquito net should provide.

When winter ends, a warm time comes, insects become active on the street, which, on purpose or not, tend to get into a person's home. For this, there is the simplest one - through a window or a door. Therefore, it is natural that a person seeks to protect these "channels". And a modern solution in this vein is the use of so-called mosquito nets.

They keep windows and doors open to allow fresh air to enter the room, but protect against insects.

Therefore, it is worth considering this invention in more detail, including the features of its installation.

About the article:

Kinds

  • removable frame;
  • sliding frame;
  • pleated;
  • roll type;
  • fastened to tape or magnetic tape;
  • "Anti-cat";
  • Anti-dust;

  • for doors or windows.

Let's consider the main types in more detail.

"Anticoshka"

If there are pets at home, then when installing a mosquito net, their safety is also worth considering. For this there is a special model - "anticoshka". It is created from special durable threads, thanks to which the product can withstand the most severe loads. Therefore, the same cat will not be able to tear or ruin the net. Moreover, the product is equipped with an additional fastener that improves safety. And it is not worth removing such a mesh even for the winter, its strength is enough to withstand such a fierce time. This will not degrade the quality.

Sliding

Suitable not only for ordinary windows, but also for terraces and balconies. Such a mesh looks like two sliding parts that can open and close. In this case, there should be special guides on the opening for moving parts. And thanks to the gray color, the visibility from the windows does not deteriorate.

Roll

The most efficient solution. They look like a rolled roll in a box. It is mounted above the window. An important advantage of this design is its versatility. After all, the mesh looks good and is used comfortably. There is nothing difficult in installing such a mosquito net. This does not require special care. And, of course, there were some drawbacks - the high cost.

"Antidust"

Today, allergies are quite common among different segments of the population. Therefore, for such cases, it is worth thinking about yourself by installing an anti-dust grid. Such a product is created from a dense material that retains even the smallest particles. However, hence the disadvantage - rapid pollution. However, it is very easy to clean it. First, the surface is washed with a warm soapy solution and then wiped with a soft dry cloth.

Such a mosquito net does not impair the appearance of the window, while it transmits the sun's rays well. And its main drawback is the high price. Otherwise, everything is very worthy.

For doors

There are also such models. They not only protect the room from insects, but also play the role of a regulator of the incoming air. Such products are installed on the hinges. Fixation takes place with magnets. Such a mosquito net on the door is a guarantee of the absence of a draft. Of course, if they took care of this in the rest of the premises.

Mount

Speaking of mosquito nets, one cannot but touch upon the issue of their attachment. And it can be like this:

  • using ears;
  • on hinges;
  • on plunger pins;
  • on z-shaped fasteners.

The latter option is the most successful in terms of reliability and usability. This does not require making additional holes in the frame. This mount can be used for both wooden and plastic windows. The only drawback is the looseness of the mesh. Due to the remaining small gaps, especially dodgy insects can still enter the room.

The pins are screwed into the window frame. Therefore, the fastening is reliable. Elements are made of stainless steel. This solution allows the mesh to fit snugly to the frame, as well as easy to install and dismantle.

Hinged mounts are good for doors. In this case, a reinforced profile is used, because the load on the frame is greater.

Which mount to choose?

It all depends on the location where the installation will be performed. For a plastic window, you will need four fasteners and eight self-tapping screws.

To remove the mesh from the window, take the plastic holders with both hands and gently pull them up. First, the mesh will come out of the lower holders, then it should be bent, and then removed from the upper ones. After that, the mesh remains to be taken into the room.

As you can see, there is nothing difficult in installing and dismantling the mosquito net, even if a plastic window is used. Therefore, to perform such procedures, in most cases, it makes no sense to turn to specialists - your knowledge and skills should be enough.

Plastic double-glazed windows are found in almost every home today. Many owners have to deal with the need to independently install a mosquito net - a protective device that prevents flying insects from entering the living room. Flies, bees, mosquitoes and wasps can deprive anyone of sleep, so a protective mesh cloth is a necessary measure when warm days come. How to choose and install a mosquito net on the window?

A little about the design of mosquito nets

The traditional elements of a mosquito net are the following:

  • frame profile and impost reinforcing it (plastic lintel with metal reinforcement inside);
  • connection corners;
  • fixing cord;
  • corner profile;
  • plastic or metal fasteners.

The mosquito net requires minimal maintenance.

  1. It is easy to attach and remove.
  2. All dirt can be washed off with soapy water and a stream of water from the shower.
  3. The mesh is lightweight, resistant to UV radiation and temperature changes.

Modern mesh canvases are produced in a variety of shapes, but they have one function - to protect rooms from dust and insects.

Popular types of insert screens for plastic windows

The choice of mesh cloths to protect windows and doors from annoying mosquitoes is quite large. Of all the variety, the most popular models can be noted:

  • frame construction. It is the most affordable and simple, can be sliding or removable. If the area of \u200b\u200bthe window opening is large, a mosquito net with an additional reinforcing bar in the middle is installed;
  • mesh mounted on plungers directly into the window opening. Its advantage is a higher resistance to environmental factors. For example, strong gusts of wind;
  • velcro mesh. A popular model among those buyers who do not require constant protection from flying insects. Such protection can be removed at any time without assistance;
  • mosquito net, mounted on hinges according to the type of door opening. The closed position of the structure is provided by special magnets;
  • roll-type mesh. According to the principle of operation, it resembles roller blinds. The canvas is unwound and collected back into the box, installed above the window opening;
  • pleated mosquito net. This is also a roll type of construction, but it is assembled in a horizontal plane (by analogy with an accordion). The advantages of such nets are a wide range of colors, the ability to decorate the canvas with decorative elements and patterns.

Fasteners for mosquito structures

Installation of a mosquito net on a plastic window involves the use of one of 4 possible types of fasteners:

  1. The plunger is a spring-loaded metal pin that can be adjusted in length. The most expensive and most reliable type of fastener.
  2. "Checkbox". This mount is considered the most short-lived. This is a small plastic hook that can be easily torn off by the wind.
  3. Z-shaped metal corner. Fastened to the frame from the inside, used for the internal installation of a mosquito net.
  4. Plastic corners. Their main plus is that the window opens and closes freely during the operation of the mosquito protection.

How to put insect protection on frame fasteners

If the mosquito net is already equipped with Z-shaped fasteners, the procedure for installing it is as follows:

  1. Align the mesh by positioning it so that the mount is on the inside. They put fasteners with a large hook up, and down with a small one.
  2. Insert mosquito protection into the window opening.
  3. Raise the net as high as possible.
  4. Place a large hook on the top edge of the window frame.
  5. Fasten the net tightly by lowering the lower hooks.

Fastening with plastic corners

The peculiarity of this method is the installation of the structure on the fasteners of the window opening. Procedure:

  1. Make the necessary measurements of the window opening.
  2. Make preliminary markings on the outside of the window frame for future fixing of the corners. Fixation of plastic corners from below is performed 1.5 cm below the window opening.
  3. Measure the distance equal to the height of the mosquito net + 1 cm. This is the point of the upper corner.
  4. Fix the corners with self-tapping screws.
  5. Install the structure according to the scheme: lifting it all the way up, inserting the corners into the grooves, attracting the mesh to the opening, lowering it down.

Outdoor mesh size is different from plug-in design. The height should be 1 cm, the width - 2 cm more than the dimensions of the window opening.

Plunger option for installing mosquito structures

The peculiarity of plunger mounting is that the mesh is installed in the window opening itself, and not inside or outside. To fix the plunger, a hole is drilled into which the pins are inserted.

Plunger screens installation process:

  1. As many holes are drilled on the window opening as there are plungers installed on the mosquito net profile.
  2. Striker plates are fixed in the holes.
  3. The plunger is inserted. To do this, press its head towards the mosquito net.
  4. When the pins are secured on one side, the other side of the net is fixed in a similar manner.
  5. Finally, a seal is glued to the frame of the mosquito cloth to increase the protection against small insects.

Is it possible to install a ready-made mosquito net on a wooden window

Installation of the finished mesh on a wooden window is possible if the dimensions of the structure and the opening match. In this case, the order of work is similar to that used for plastic windows.

If it is difficult to choose a ready-made mosquito net for the window of a country house, and ordering custom-made production is expensive, you can assemble the mosquito protection yourself.

When buying a mosquito net, you must carefully study the mechanism of its installation. For example, plunger structures must have the size of the window opening and are not always suitable for consumers with non-standard plastic windows. The owner should think over in advance all the issues of the upcoming installation of mosquito protection and choose the most suitable option.

Reading time ≈ 10 minutes

Mosquito netting for plastic windows is an important accessory for the summer period. Manufacturers of plastic windows offer mosquito nets complete with window frames, but branded designs are not cheap, and multiplying the number of nets by the number of windows in an apartment will make a round sum. A more budget option is a self-made insect net - it will be just as effective, aesthetic, durable and lightweight. And to create it, you will need only a couple of hours of time and a simple tool.

Pleated insect screen.

Types of mosquito nets

Mosquito nets can be of several types:

  • Framed. They represent an aluminum frame with a stretched panel. This is the only type of structure that allows you to make a mesh of various geometric shapes, while other structures can be exclusively rectangular. Effective, easy to install, inexpensive and durable. They protect the room not only from mosquitoes, but also from sand and even dust, prevent animals from falling out of the window.
  • Pleated. These are modern, high-tech mosquito nets, the fabric of which is made of special plastic. The principle of operation is similar to an accordion. Pleated designs are great for large windows (width and height over 3 m).
  • Rolled. The design involves folding the mesh into a roll cassette in case of irrelevance (for the winter), while there is no need to dismantle the system. Due to this, the structure is less worn out and has a longer service life. The advantage is space saving.
  • Sliding. This design works on the principle of sliding doors. Used for sliding windows and doors on balconies, terraces, verandas. To reliably close the gaps around the perimeter in sliding systems, a special sealing nap is used.

Also, the nets can differ based on other parameters: the method of fastening (with Velcro / brackets / hooks / pins), by the presence of the frame (frame / frameless), at the place of installation (external / internal).

Characteristics of structures and features of choice

To be sure to determine the type of construction, the following points must be taken into account:

  1. Window opening frequency.
  2. House type (private / multi-storey). In the case of an apartment building, the number of storeys is also taken into account.
  3. Window frame material (wood / plastic).
  4. For plastic windows, the type of sash opening is taken into account: swing, swing, tilt, combined.
  5. When choosing the material of the panel, the features of the terrain (dustiness, poplar fluff), as well as the presence of pets in the house, are taken into account.

The main functional element of the insect screen is precisely the cloth, therefore, when choosing it, take into account the following parameters:

  • thickness;
  • the size of the cells;
  • the shape of the cells;
  • type of material and its strength.

To understand what size of cells you need, decide on the type of insects in your area, as well as other nuances (the presence of poplar, dustiness of the territory, etc.). The largest cells are 3.7 * 3.7 mm. If the holes are larger, they will not be able to protect against the penetration of mosquitoes and flies, not to mention midges and small debris. Cells of 3 * 3 mm are considered standard and are suitable for most areas. Cells measuring 2 * 2 and 1.5 * 1.5 mm perfectly protect against mosquitoes and gnats (small Diptera). The section of 1 * 1 mm and 1 * 0.25 mm allows you to protect the room not only from insects, but also from fluff, small debris, sand and even dust.

The most common types of cells:

  1. Anti-dust - section 1.5 * 1.5 mm (also 1 * 1 mm). Strong and durable, protects against large and small insects, but the light transmission is low, therefore it is recommended to use the Anti-Dust cloth only in southern regions with high insolation.
  2. - designed to protect the room from mosquitoes and flies (ineffective against gnat), it is good for air and light. The cross section can be 2.5 * 2.5 mm or 2.5 * 3.5 mm. For production, polyester is used, impregnated with a special substance.
  3. Standard - section 3 * 3 mm, average strength.

The main types of mosquito nets by appointment.

Cells are most often rectangular and hexagonal, like honeycombs. The former perfectly retain dust, but poorly transmit light and air. Hexagonal cells are suitable for areas with an abundance of gnats and little sunlight in the summer.

In terms of material, mosquito nets were previously made of PVC-coated fiberglass. Such material is now considered ineffective and outdated: it poorly transmits sunlight and air, and after a short time the panel itself turns into a dust collector due to destruction under the influence of ultraviolet radiation. Polyester is used for the manufacture of modern nets.

The color of the panel is important - contrary to popular belief, a light panel greatly reduces the clarity and contrast of the picture, but increases the visibility of the room from the outside. Therefore, when choosing a panel, you need to focus on dark colors: black, brown, gray.

After you have familiarized yourself with the main types and parameters of structures for plastic windows, and have decided on the choice, you can start making stacks on the window from mosquitoes with your own hands. At home, it is easiest to make a simple frameless mesh (stationary and removable) or a frame structure.

Frameless mesh production

The most inexpensive, easiest and fastest way is to make a stationary mesh. This requires a minimum amount of materials:

  • Cloth (dimensions correspond to the parameters of the window with an increase of 1 cm on each side).
  • Cloth tape (length equal to the perimeter of the panel) for better adhesion of surfaces.
  • Glue for fixing the structure.
  • Metal buttons for additional fixation in case of wooden windows.

The course of work is as simple as possible: you need to measure the parameters of the window and cut out a panel of the appropriate size, attach a tape to the glue around the perimeter of the panel and then glue the mesh panel itself to the fabric tape. All work will take about an hour.

This design has one significant drawback - it cannot be opened or removed for repair / cleaning. When the need arises for washing, the entire structure will have to be dismantled and, after the work done, reinstalled.

You can learn how to make a frameless mesh on burdock buttons from the video:

Detachable design

It is much more reasonable to choose a removable Velcro design. This option is also cost effective, fast and efficient. However, its obvious advantage is that it is “reusable” - if necessary, the net can be opened slightly or completely removed for washing. And if you choose high-quality glue (for example, Tytan transparent rubber assembly glue), then it can be removed without a trace, which is especially important for the preservation of the attractive appearance of the windows.

Mosquito net on burdock tape.

Necessary materials:

  • Mosquito canvas.
  • Construction glue.
  • Velcro tape.
  • Threads and a needle.

The work progress is as follows:

  • Measure the inner quarter of the window frame - the structure will be attached to it.
  • Cut the strip and the Velcro to the desired size.
  • On the mounting glue, attach one side of the Velcro (the one with the hooks) to the window frame, and sew the second part of the Velcro (fleecy) along the perimeter of the mesh.

Before fixing the Velcro to the frame, the window must be thoroughly washed from dirt and degreased with alcohol - this will achieve better adhesion.

You need to remove the mesh very carefully - in the process, the fleecy part of the Velcro can be detached from the panel. Therefore, such frameless structures are often installed on balconies, terraces and other rooms, where they remain to serve throughout the year.

Burdock buttons or soft bipolar magnetic tape can be an effective alternative to conventional Velcro

Making a frame mesh

Frame structures will take longer to manufacture, but they can also last longer. This option is suitable not only for windows, but also for doors.

To make a mosquito net for a window (for wooden or plastic windows) with your own hands, prepare the following materials and tools:

  • Anti-mosquito cloth (window dimensions + 10 cm allowance on each side).
  • Cable channel with rectangular section 10 * 15 mm.
  • Metal corners (4 pcs.).
  • Blind rivets (16 pcs.).
  • Assembly adhesive.
  • Roulette.
  • Scissors and knife.
  • Electric drill.

Cable channel with rectangular section 10 * 15 mm

Blind rivets for fastening the structure

The process of manufacturing a structure consists of the following stages:

  • Measure the window and cut the frame from the cable duct accordingly. The ends should be at a 45 ° angle.
  • Connect the structure using corners and rivets, pre-drilling holes in the profile.
  • Cut out the mosquito net according to the frame measurements and leave 2-3 cm allowances around the entire perimeter.
  • Starting from the long side part, we clamp the panel with the cover of the cable channel.
  • The sheet should be attached evenly, without distortions and sagging. To do this, you need to start fastening from the long side, then go to the opposite side. It is best to do this step with an assistant, since a slight tension must be created in the mesh.
  • Excess fabric should be cut off with scissors.
  • For greater strength and fixation, as well as to prevent snapping, some places can be additionally fastened with glue (applied between the profile and the cover).

Methods for fixing the frame structure

After the construction of the mosquito-repellent frame structure, it must be attached to the window. There are several ways to do this:

  • With plungers. A very simple fastening, however, it has a number of disadvantages: they spoil the window frame, poorly hold (can be blown away by the wind when fastened externally), are quite expensive.
  • Using Z-profiles. This is a reliable method of fastening, in which the whole structure looks very compact, neat, and takes up a minimum of space. The disadvantage is the loss of the guarantee for the window frames as a result of drilling them under the fasteners.

Also, this method of installation is extremely dangerous for self-fastening on multi-storey buildings - to do the work, a person must half lean out of the window.

  • With staples. This mounting method is similar to the previous one. The difference is that the brackets are attached to the mesh frame. The structure can be external or internal, during installation, the frames of plastic windows are not damaged, therefore the guarantee for the windows does not disappear. However, during winter storage, all structures will have to be shifted with material (for example, cardboard) so that the fasteners do not break the nets.

Various ways of attaching the frame to the window.

Caring for the mosquito net

Homemade mosquito nets must be properly maintained. As a barrier between the outdoor space and the room, it traps not only large and small Diptera, but also debris, water droplets, fluff, sand and dust. Over time, these impurities accumulate on the mesh, making it itself a source of dirt. Therefore, if the mesh is to be dismantled, it must be removed and cleaned 1-2 times a year. If the structure is not removable, it needs to be updated every year (given the low cost of stationary self-made structures, this will not be financially difficult).

  • The frame and mountings must be wiped with a damp sponge, you can add detergents.
  • The panel itself must first be dry cleaned (vacuum cleaned or gently cleaned with a soft brush).
  • Next, the panel should be washed with cool water without detergents (even the most non-aggressive ones).
  • To dry the fabric, a natural way is preferable, away from batteries and heaters - due to the temperature difference, the fibers of the fabric can be damaged.

In order for a do-it-yourself mosquito net to serve you for many years, it is recommended to remove it for the winter and store it upright (without folding!).

As you can see, a mosquito net for a window is very cheap, it is simply assembled and mounted on plastic windows. Having spent just a couple of hours on making a simple structure, you will receive reliable protection from dirt, dust and annoying insects without hitting the family budget!

You can learn how to make a mosquito net with your own hands from the video:

The long-awaited spring brings with it not only fresh air that enters the apartments through the windows wide open. Spring is also that time of the year when the invasion of all kinds of insects begins (and, unfortunately, continues until the onset of cold weather), trying to take a place next to a person.

Opened windows, unclosed ventilation ducts - this is the front door for mosquitoes, flies, and sometimes bees.

A natural decision arising from the desire of a person to choose those who have the right to be in his apartment himself was the invention of such a simple but irreplaceable addition to the windows as a mosquito net.

Protective mesh for PVC windows and doors

In the old-style wooden windows, the vents were open throughout the warm season. The owners of the apartments, in order to prevent insects from entering their homes and to leave poplar fluff on the other side of the window, attached gauze to the vents. It turns out that the mosquito net is a new accessory from the “well forgotten old” series.

The principle of action ends with what is common between modern mosquito nets and gauze on old windows.

Plastic windows, which have become ubiquitous and universally recognized, for the most part are opened by opening the entire sash or tilting it into an inclined position. This led to the need to refine the gauze version to the requirements of modern conditions.

Adjusting to these requirements, it was necessary to make the mesh easily removable, interchangeable, invisible either from the side of the room or from the street.

The frame on which the mesh is stretched has also been made convenient: it can be disassembled and stored in this form.

During one season, so much dust collects on the net that if you do not wash it off, then not only mosquitoes - even fresh air will hardly get into the room. A collapsible frame is very useful here: having removed the mesh, you can safely rinse it like the same gauze.

The door to the balcony, which in summer (like the window) is quite often open, has always been a separate headache in terms of fighting insects and poplar fluff. But here, too, a competent solution has been found - this is a swinging mosquito net.

Such a swing option is a mosquito net stretched over a frame the size of a doorway. For rigidity, the frame is reinforced with one or two crossbars. In principle, a swinging mosquito net is a prototype of a door, only this door is intended to stop insects and street dust, not people.

For wide doorways where it is not possible to install a frame, a protective mesh was invented, rigidly fixed on all sides except where it touches the floor. In the middle of such a grid there is an incision, which, allowing a person or an animal to pass through, closes itself tightly due to the magnets at the edges of the incision.

It would seem that it is impossible to come up with something else, radically different from the standard model of a mosquito net, stretched over a metal frame and fixed with rigid fasteners to the window frame. Here they came up with a swing option, here they made a grid with magnets, and that's it? No, the inquisitive design thought did not stop there.

Protective screens for windows in the form of roller shutters or blinds appeared on sale. Such structures can not be removed, sent for storage in the winter. It is enough to twist them into a roll, and they can be in this position until that time, until the need for their use again appears.

Unfortunately, mosquitoes are not the only ones trying to get into the premises through windows and doors. Sometimes a mosquito net attached to a door or window opening becomes an obstacle for a cat or dog living in an apartment. In the fight against these representatives of the animal world, the mosquito net suffers a complete defeat.

But clever heads also worked on this issue, creating a mosquito net with a protective PVC coating applied to it. This mesh, due to its purpose, received the appropriate name - "Anticoshka".

Varieties

Mosquito nets are not just window nets to keep out blood-sucking insects.

According to their functional capabilities, they can be divided into several types: standard, most often used frame mesh, stretched over an aluminum frame:

  • roll mesh, unwinding along the guides fixed on the window frame;
  • swing, which has hinges and opens like ordinary doors. Can be mounted both on a door or window frame, and in a window or doorway;
  • mesh with magnets. Installed in doorways and does not interfere with the passage of humans and animals;
  • net, folding in the form of an accordion in a special case - "pleated";
  • mesh with a special anti-vandal coating applied to it;
  • mesh protecting against fine dust entering the room... Recommended for installation in rooms where people who suffer from seasonal allergies to the flowering of various plants live.

If we briefly define the main types of mosquito nets, the list will look like this:

  • frame;
  • roll;

Since there are different types of mosquito nets, it is natural that they have invented different ways of attaching them to the supporting base.

These methods might look like this:

  • an option in which the size of the mesh frame matches the size of the sash. Such a frame is attached to plunger pins;
  • if the frame is larger than the opening in the frame, in which the sash is located, then it can be fixed from the outside of the frame on special ears. Previously, the ears themselves are screwed to the frame with screws;
  • the second option for fixing the frame larger than the sash - on hooks that are fixed on the frame itself and during installation they cling to the frame;
  • horizontal guides fixed to the window frame, along which one or two frames of the mosquito net can move, freeing the window opening;
  • rolled mosquito netsare installed on the upper part of the frame and unfold, moving along the vertical guides fixed to it;
  • sliding mesh on magnets can be fixed to the frame with tape;
  • frames can have curtains and be mounted on the frame, opening free access to the premises;
  • mosquito systems "pleated"with a complex mount, the device of which can only be entrusted to a specialist.

All these fastening methods can be systematized according to the main defining characteristics:

  • fastening on plunger pins;
  • on the hooks;
  • on the ears;
  • on scotch tape;
  • roll system with fixed vertical guides;
  • frame system with horizontal guides;
  • pleated system.

Mosquito nets with additional functions (for example, "Anticoshka") are usually used in a standard frame version and always have several additional fasteners. This is done so that the animal, which can use the net as a support, does not fall out into the street with it.

Almost all versions of mosquito nets installed on plastic windows are suitable for use on aluminum and wooden windows.

With an obvious variety of types of meshes and options for their attachment, it becomes difficult to determine which mesh is best installed in a given case.

To answer this question, you need to figure out what functions the barrier in the form of a mosquito net should perform.

If you just need to prevent insects from entering the room, then the standard frame option is the cheapest way out.

In cases where it is necessary to close the sliding balcony frames, it would be appropriate to use that frame option, in which two mosquito nets move along horizontal guides, changing places with each other like the doors of a wardrobe.

If there is a danger that the net can be damaged by the pet, then the version with a regular net should be replaced with a reinforced net.

How to handle correctly

It would seem that the main purpose of mosquito nets is to protect against annoying midges, but this is just one of the functions performed by this type of protective device.

The mosquito net, among other things, can even serve as a regulator of air flows entering the room through open door and window openings. If in the apartment there are nets on all windows, then in case of gusts of wind they will stop the speed of air movement, protecting the tenants of the apartment from the danger of getting a cold.

In addition, out of nowhere a layer of dust that appears on furniture will practically cease to appear if you put nets on the windows, designed to prevent the appearance of midges and mosquitoes, but also having an additional anti-dust function.

For allergy sufferers, this type of mosquito net will help not only to make their apartment cleaner by putting a reliable barrier on the paths of debris and dust penetration, but most importantly - it will help to maintain health, leaving the very cause of allergic reactions outside the window.

The only condition for the complete fulfillment of the anti-dust mosquito net its main purpose - to stop the penetration of fine pollen of flowering plants, is the periodic care of its surface.

To do this, you need to rinse the mesh itself with soapy water and install it in its place only after complete drying. If the mesh is installed without letting it dry, then the dust will immediately adhere to it, clogging all the cells, and the cleaning process will have to be repeated again.

There is no specific time after which a mosquito net with an anti-dust function has to be removed. It all depends on how quickly this mesh loses its ability to freely pass air. In cases where the room in which the grids of this type are installed are located on the lower floors of buildings, and trees grow nearby or a busy road passes, they have to be washed quite often.

How to correctly install

The easiest and most accessible way for the average user to install a mosquito net is to fasten it with hooks. The hooks themselves in the finished version are already fixed on the mesh frame, and the whole installation process consists only in positioning the frame in the place where it should be located, and turning the hooks to a position perpendicular to the frame.

No tools or special devices are used for this.

The device of all other methods of fastening, more precisely, the fixation of their elements is best left to professional installers.

The "pleated" system, in which a mosquito net is deployed, taking on a working state, cannot be made without the use of special tools and skills.

Attaching the ears to the frame from the outside is also not easy. Indeed, for this you need to accurately calculate the amount of tolerance required for the free exit of the frame between the upper and lower fasteners.

And the very process of tightening the screws that press the ears to the frame will have to be done, half leaning out of the window opening.

Similar difficulties will have to be faced when installing horizontal rails for sliding frames.

Even for the device of a mosquito net with plunger pins, a correct calculation is needed to mark the exact place of their installation and a tool with which you can drill the grooves to fix the pins.

How to remove without problems?

In order for the removal and installation of the mesh not to become a problem, the methods of fastening it should be chosen the most convenient. Such as, for example, fastening by means of hooks or on plunger pins.

The frame of the mosquito net, which is attached to the frame of the balcony door with curtains, can also be removed with a simple action. To do this, it is enough to raise the side of the frame where the hinges are located, and they will easily come out of their mountings to the frame.

Since the mesh that is used on doorways has to be constantly closed and opened, special handles are attached to it for convenience. For a snug fit, seals are installed on the frame, into which the frame itself is fixed.

On the frame-type nets, attached to the ears, hooks or pins, plastic holders are inserted into the frame from the inside, allowing you to hold the mesh when installing it in place.

To remove the mesh, which is standardly fixed on the outside of the frame, you need to raise it so that the lower horizontal bar of the frame comes out of the lower ears, then the bottom of the frame should be brought out and, lowering, the frame should be removed from the upper ears. The loose mesh can be returned to the room.

To return the mesh fixed to the hooks to the room, you need to rotate the hooks along its axis to a position along the frame, remembering to hold it by the plastic holders.

The mesh on the plunger pins can be quickly removed by simply pulling on the pin heads to release them from their seats. Once again, the freed net should not be forgotten to hold, so as not to run after it into the street.

Mosquito nets, which move along horizontal guides, despite their apparent complexity, are released from the guides as easily as with the option of attaching them to the ears. In the same way, you need to raise the frame and bring its bottom out of the lower fastening - this allows you to make a gap that is between the frame and the upper guide.

The most difficult to dismantle are the roll-type mosquito nets and the "pleated" mosquito system. Their periodic maintenance has to be done without removing from the mounts.

How to fix it without mistakes?

If you decide to independently install a mosquito net on the "ears" mounts, then first you need to take the necessary safety measures when working at height, since you need to work halfway out of the window. After marking for the installation of the fasteners, you need to choose screws of such length that they are screwed only into the plastic and do not rest against the metal frame inside the profile. The optimum screw length should be no more than 20mm.

There are guides for the movement of the frame, which are attached with double-sided tape. In this case, you need to make the markup especially carefully. If a mistake is made, then the second time it will be impossible to fix incorrectly installed and once dismantled guides.

In case, nevertheless, holes were mistakenly drilled in the plastic profile, they must be repaired. For this purpose, a special liquid plastic is used. But if this material is not available, then you can seal the holes with ordinary white silicone.

Frame mounting options

The first option is the easiest and safest, is provided to those owners of premises whose windows are at the height of free access from the outside. To implement this option, you do not need to risk leaning out of the window. It is enough with the help of a stepladder, attaching the mesh to the frame, mark its contours and screw either ears or guides relative to them.

The second option is that you can not immediately fasten the ears, and, after gluing double-sided tape, use it to install them in the marked place and check the accuracy of the marking by installing the frame. These actions will protect the profile from the appearance of holes on it, left by erroneously applied marks.

The most reliable option is to involve specialists in the installation of mosquito nets. Such a service is provided in combination with the installation of a window, provided that the installation of a mosquito net is included in the list of measures indicated in the contract.

If the need for a mosquito net appeared after a window or door was installed, then, as a rule, such a service is provided by the manufacturers of nets, providing their specialists for installation.

Can I install it myself?

Problems arising from open doors and windows force many people to take steps to fix them.

The easiest way out is to tightly close the opening, which causes inconvenience. But instead of some problems, others come, sometimes more serious than dust and mosquitoes.

Mold and mildew may appear on the walls of the room: they are always in a hurry to start up where there is no good ventilation. Micro-ventilation, available when installing almost all plastic windows, cannot eliminate this nuisance.

There are only two options for dealing with poor ventilation of the room:

  • insert into the window profile of a special air valveensuring sufficient air exchange in the room;
  • installation of a mosquito net on an open door or window openingthat does not obstruct air movement and eliminates the problem of an open window or door.

Lightweight and durable mosquito net does not disturb the general appearance of the window or door to which it is attached, because the color of its frame can be matched to the color of the profile. So that the mesh itself is not conspicuous, it is mainly produced in a light gray color, although options are possible at the request of the customer.

If desired, you can easily get the mesh itself from the frame. To do this, pull out the rubber sealing cord, which is inserted into the groove located on the inside of the frame-frame. This cord secures the edges of the mesh, preventing it from slipping out of the groove.

Having taken out the mesh, you can disassemble the frame itself by pulling forcefully on the strips at the joints.

Due to the fact that the frame is collapsible, it is not necessary to buy a new product in case of damage to the canvas itself. You can buy a new piece of linen and insert it into the old frame.

If it was decided to do without the help of the measurers and installers, then before starting the measurements, you need to carefully consider how the plastic window is located relative to the outer slopes.

Sometimes the upper profile of the window, which is deeply recessed under the slope, does not allow placing the “ears” fasteners on it. There is simply no room for that.

The same trouble can be expected in the event that it was decided to install a roll-up mosquito net on the side profile, which is almost completely hidden under the side slopes.

If the profile departs from the slopes at a distance that allows any type of attachment to fit, then you can proceed to the next stage - measuring the frame of the future mosquito net.

For the frame, which will be fastened with the "ears", you need to measure the width and height of the opening in which the sash is located, and add three centimeters to these dimensions - this will be the required size of the mosquito net frame. The frame must include fasteners and screws to fix them. If there are no screws, then you need to find those that meet two requirements: they must be made of stainless material, and their length must be no more than 20mm.

The set of "ears" fasteners consists of four pieces: two of them differ from the other two in length. Mounts with a smaller shelf are placed at the bottom of the frame, and those that are longer hold the top of the frame. This is done so that the gap in the upper "ears" allows the bottom of the frame to be raised and taken out.

The size of this gap must be measured very accurately - it is he who is responsible for how reliably the mosquito net is held in its mountings. Also, a correctly calculated gap will make it possible to easily install and remove the mesh.

For self-installation of a mosquito net, it is best to use the option with hooks. All actions for installing hooks can be performed indoors, because the hooks are attached to the very frame of the mosquito net. The finished mesh will only need to be carefully installed in the window opening, activating the hooks and turning them around their axis.

Does the installation make sense?

This is not to say that the mosquito net is the most necessary invention for a person, and one cannot do without it. It is quite possible to hang gauze on the window, and on the doorway there are plastic tapes that scare away all living creatures. It is for sure cheaper than buying and installing a mosquito net. But the whole question is whether such methods will be as effective and convenient as the effective and convenient mosquito net used for the same purposes, or correctly speaking, mosquito net.

It must also be remembered that, in addition to its main function (not to let winged insects into the room), there are additional functions that such a grid successfully copes with. Among them: the ability of a fine-mesh cloth to keep small dust formations, curb a draft, stop pets from flying through an open window.

Any of these functions in itself is worthy of installing a protective mosquito net on a window or door for its sake.

Unlike ancient methods such as gauze or tape on the window, the mesh fabric is almost invisible in an open window opening. Plus, the mesh is a reusable, easy-to-use product that has application options to suit a variety of requirements.

The mesh can be in the form of a roll, in the form of an accordion, be simply stretched over the frame, or with magnets for fixing behind a passing person (mesh on the doorway). Those who wish can always choose the option that suits everyone.

And at the same time, minimal care is required for it - as it gets dirty, it must be washed with soapy water, and this is all a simple maintenance procedure.

Step by step installation

The best option for installing a mosquito net would be to install it complete with a plastic window. Separate ordering and departure of a specialist will cost more than complex services. In addition, sellers of plastic windows often have promotions for which a mosquito net can be obtained as a gift.

But if you have to order the manufacture and installation of the mesh after the plastic window has taken its place, this is also not a big problem. In this case, there will be advantages. The distances from the glass to the side and top slopes will indicate which type of mosquito net (frame, roll) and which type of fastening is best suited for a particular option.

In order to order a mosquito net and install it yourself, you need to consistently take the following steps:

  • free the window sill and window opening from foreign objects;
  • open the sash and determine which part of the upper and side slopes is not covered by the outer slope. If they have a free distance of 3 cm, then you can start measuring;
  • with a pre-prepared tape measure, you should accurately measure the distance of the opening in the frame in which the sash is located;
  • it is best to give the obtained dimensions to the manufacturers of the mosquito net for processing. They will calculate exactly how to change the data so that the finished product fits perfectly into the window opening. This option is especially good when the customer does not know exactly which type of mounts is better to choose. Each mounting option has its own tolerances for the main size. But if a decision is made to carry out the calculations yourself,
  • then for the method of fastening with the help of "ears" you need to add three centimeters to the obtained dimensions of the height and width of the opening;
  • in order to fix the finished product on the window frame, first you need to make marks corresponding to the installation locations of the fasteners. The location of the two lower mounts should be such that the lower edge of the mosquito net frame installed in them is one and a half centimeters below the sash opening;
  • from the shelf of the lower attachment, measure the distance to the shelf of the upper attachment. This distance should be one centimeter greater than the height of the grid frame;
  • on the marks obtained, it is necessary to install fasteners with the obligatory condition that fasteners in which the shelf holding the frame, which is smaller in length, is installed at the bottom of the frame. Use stainless steel screws to secure the fasteners.
  • The installation of the grid itself is not particularly difficult. To do this, securely fixing the mesh by the plastic holders, insert it first into the upper mount, lift it all the way, and, pressing it against the frame, lower it into the grip of the lower mount. If the tolerance between the bindings has been calculated accurately, then the mesh frame will take its intended place without any problems.

About the types of mosquito nets in the video:

Mosquito net and its installation on the window

To determine which of the existing technical means is best suited for stopping flying insects trying to enter the house through the window, you need to understand the range of offered means.

For this purpose, you can use fumigators, special lights that kill insects, sticky tapes and much more. However, each of these means of dealing with annoying living creatures has its drawbacks: fumigators can negatively affect aquarium fish, lighting devices consume electricity, sticky tapes from flies hung around the house are unlikely to give aesthetic pleasure to anyone.

But there is a competent solution to this pressing issue every spring - this is the installation of an obstacle in the form of a mosquito net on the path of insects.

Sometimes mosquito nets installed on the windows of living quarters can be seen even in the winter season. This does not mean that the apartment owners forgot to put the netting away for storage. Some people need nets on the windows at any time of the year, because in addition to protecting them from insects, they also have other functions. Such nets can not only not let into the room, but also not let out of it (for example, a cat or a hamster that is walking on the windowsill while the owner is ventilating the room).

If the mesh fabric is covered with a special protective compound made of polyvinyl chloride, then it can be forgotten for more than one year, leaving it in the window frame.

After all, it practically does not interfere with looking at the street. The mosquito net becomes visible only if it is left untreated and allowed to become covered with a layer of dust. But this problem can be easily eliminated with soap and water.

If there is no need to use an anti-allergenic version of the mesh fabric with a fine mesh of 1 mm 2, then you can use a fabric with holes of 3 mm 2. This will significantly increase the time between when you need to take action to maintain the mosquito net.

Mosquito nets can differ from each other not only by the mesh of the canvas, but also by the shape of the cells. It is believed that the canvas, in which the cells are rectangular, transmit light and air worse, but are more tear-resistant and cheaper in cost. A canvas with hexagonal cells is recommended for use in places where gnats and small midges are common. This is due to the fact that a hexagonal cell transmits light and air twice as much as a rectangular one of the same size.

It is difficult to install a mosquito net on the frame only for the first time, since you need to perform several steps to accurately mark and then attach accessories that fix the mesh frame in accordance with the selected type of attachment. For this reason, it is better to seek help from specialists who, having installed the grid, will explain to the owner all the conditions for its further operation.

You don't have to ask for outside help if you use the simplest installation method, it does not require any measurements or special tools.

The mosquito cloth, not stretched over a metal frame, gave the name to a new method of installing mosquito nets - frameless. One side of the Velcro is glued to the window frame and connected to the other part glued along the perimeter of the canvas. This is the whole process, the difficulty of which is only in the fact that the tape on the window coincides with the tape on the canvas.

For entrance doors

The requirements for mosquito door screens are very different from those for window screens. The door mesh should allow people and animals to pass freely, while blocking the path of flying insects.

Since the requirements for these nets are different, the approach to their fastenings on the doorway is also somewhat different.

For this purpose, you can use nets equipped with magnets - they do not obstruct the passage of people and are an excellent barrier for insects.

Such mosquito nets are attached to the door frame with burdock Velcro on the side and top sides. The bottom of the grid and the place of passage have bipolar magnets, with the help of which the edges of the grid, having passed a person, instantly slam behind him.

There are other ways to install mosquito nets on doorways.

One of them is called "pleated". This method consists in folding the mosquito cloth into an accordion and fixing it in a special box. This method is used for large openings, which cannot be closed using other approaches to the device of a mosquito net.

A more common way of closing doors with a net is to install a frame with a stretched mosquito net on the door frame, which is attached to the frame using special curtains.

The disadvantage of this option is the short service life, since the aluminum frame can be easily damaged.

Both the "pleated" and the swing version of the mosquito net have two common serious disadvantages compared to the net with magnets. While a person enters, he needs to spend a few seconds to open and close the doors, and sometimes this time is enough for those whom the grid should stop to enter the room with.

DIY mosquito net

There is an emergency solution to the problem of annoying insects entering the room, if suddenly an unforeseen situation occurs, and the frame with a mosquito net removed from the window received mechanical damage and cannot be put in its place.

To do this, remove the canvas from the frame by pulling on the rubber cord that fixes the edges of the canvas. Then remove the sealing rubber from the window frame. Insert the edges of the canvas into the freed groove and secure them with a clothesline. There is no doubt that the canvas will fit in size, because the mesh frame is only slightly larger than the sash opening.

In the event that there is a finished mesh in working order, but the fasteners that should hold it are not yet secured, the following actions must be taken:

  • try on the frame to the opening that it should cover. If it is 1.5 cm on each side hiding behind the frame and at the same time does not rest against the outer slope, then its size corresponds to the given window opening;
  • mark the place for the lower mounts with a short pressure shelf so that later there is enough space to raise the frame up by 1 cm and at the same time it does not rest against the slope;
  • mark the place for the upper mounts so that they are 1 cm higher than the frame;
  • after the marking process, it is necessary, observing safety measures, to install the fasteners in the places intended for them.

After that, it remains only to put the mesh in the mounts, holding it by the special holders installed on the sides.

The task of setting the mesh is greatly simplified if you need to secure the mesh with Z-hooks. First you need to find the main hook, which should be the first to cling to the frame. The main one is the longest, it should be on the short side of the frame. This hook must be placed behind the upper inner lip of the window frame, while the frame of the mosquito net must be on the outside of this lip.

Further, firmly holding the frame, you need to turn the lower hook behind the inner ledge of the window frame and lower the frame down. After the frame is in place, you can fix it by turning the side hooks.

Installing the mesh on the balcony frame

The mosquito net can be installed from the outside of the window - these are fastening methods using "ears" and "hooks", as well as a "pleated" system and roll-type nets.

Installation of the mesh in the frame is allowed - fastening on plunger pins.

The only way to fix a mosquito net installed on a frame indoors is in openings with sliding frames. This is due to the fact that this kind of frame does not have protruding handles that can damage the mesh fabric.

As a rule, two frames are installed on the balcony, which can move, changing places with each other. For their movement on the inner side of the frame, two guides with two grooves in each are attached. Inside these grooves, mosquito nets, moving along the entire length of the balcony, can take any place.

Due to the fact that the installation of the guides is accessible from the balcony side, the installation of this type of fastening of mosquito nets is not considered too difficult. It is quite possible to make it yourself, just by correctly marking the places where the guides should be attached.

Door mosquito nets

The main difference between the two main types of grids that cover doorways is where the canvas is located - with or without a frame.

A mosquito blanket is considered a frame if it is a component of the pleated system or is stretched over a frame that is attached to the door frame with curtains.

Representatives of frameless mosquito protection are nets in which the edges of the incision after the passage of a person are connected with each other using magnets or Velcro.

Frameless nets are easy to install and convenient to use, which is not the case with framed door mosquito protection.

To install an additional mosquito net door, you need to take actions similar to installing a door leaf in a door frame.

What is the best type of mount?

All existing methods of using mosquito nets meet the main goal - to block access to the premises of small insects. In order for this function to be fulfilled 100%, all types of mosquito barriers have been developed, the essence of which has been detailed above.

The most popular framed mosquito nets are those that are attached with hooks and Z-shaped fasteners (“ears”). They are easy to install and also easy to dismantle. Affordable price also plays a big role.

A roll-type mosquito net will cost more, and its installation will not do without the help of a specialist.

Buying and installing the pleated system is the most expensive pleasure in the range of mosquito devices, but at the same time, the most convenient.

The cheapest mosquito barrier is a frameless Velcro canvas. But after several removals from the window to clean the dust, the Velcro stops sticking, and the question of how to protect the room from mosquitoes again becomes relevant.

We must not forget that mosquito nets can also carry additional functions - to help allergy sufferers survive the time of flowering plants, and can also stop small domestic animals from traveling outside the window.

To determine which type of mosquito net is better than the rest, you can only carefully read the available materials on this topic, or carefully read this article, which contains all the data for analysis.
