Lifting gates are the simplest do-it-yourself design. The best do-it-yourself overhead garage doors. Choosing and creating a shield for the gate

Nowadays, many types of garage doors have been created, which are distinguished by their convenience and reliability. The most ergonomic and comfortable to use among the available options are traditional lifting (folding) structures, which, when opened, effectively go under the ceiling.

Types of lifting structures - what can you make yourself?

Overhead garage doors are most often made in two basic versions. They can be sectional or rotary. Gates of the first type are structures assembled from several plastic, wood or steel panels up to half a meter high. The connection of individual elements into a common structure is carried out by means of hinge hinges. Moving parts (couplings, rollers) are made of plastic or metal. But the guides for the gate are always made of stainless steel. From the inside, the lift-and-turn structures are insulated with polyurethane foam. This ensures high-quality thermal insulation of the garage.

Swing garage doors are characterized by decent strength characteristics, simplicity and safety of operation. The disadvantage of these designs is that it is almost impossible to make them yourself. If you plan to equip your RV with these gates, you will have to purchase them as a kit from a specialist store. In this case, the installation of the factory set can be done independently, being guided by the manufacturer's instructions.

The up-and-over gate can be made by yourself. Their design, which we will discuss in detail in the next section, is simple and durable. The key advantage of these folding systems is the high level of garage protection. They cannot be hacked without noise. In addition, the pivoting structures provide a truly convenient exit. They also do not take up extra space in front of the garage, which is very important for many motorists.

Disadvantages of pivoting systems:

  • "eat" about 25 cm of the opening height (only when they are in the open position);
  • the need to use high-quality (and therefore expensive) materials;
  • large mass of the gate.

Another disadvantage of the rotary structure is that in case of significant damage, it is impossible to repair the system. The gate will have to be completely dismantled and then reassembled.

The device and the principle of functioning of the swing gate

Structurally, the systems described, which many garage owners make with their own hands, are made in the form of the most durable and reliable support frame and a canvas covering the entrance opening. A diagram of such structures is shown below.

Hinged gates can theoretically be built without guides. But experts do not advise doing this, so as not to reduce the operational reliability of the structure. The door leaf is made in one piece. If you have extra wood on the farm, you can actually collect the entrance shield from it. But it is better to make a canvas from profiled sheets. This material is relatively inexpensive. And the canvas from it provides excellent optimal protection from strangers. If the motorhome is used all year round, the profiled sheets must be insulated with polyurethane foam.

To facilitate the lifting of the web, we recommend using special compensator springs. In general, the movement of the gate leaf is carried out by levers, springs and rollers (the so-called hinge-lever mechanism). The system drive can be mechanical or electrical. The mechanics are considered to be more reliable during long-term operation. The electric drive is more capricious and more expensive. But on the other hand, it is much more convenient to use (opening / closing of the structure is performed by command from the remote control).

The folding systems function simply and clearly. When the doors are opened, their upper part deflects and then moves towards the beam along bearings or rollers, where it is fixed in a horizontal position (parallel to the ceiling). This system does not require the installation of external hinges that intruders can cut off with a grinder. This ensures the unique safety of the overhead door.

In addition, the sash covering the garage entrance is adjacent to the supporting frame from the inside. Consequently, it will be much more difficult for criminals to pull the gate out with a cable connected to a tractor or other powerful vehicle.

First steps - a competent start to work

The gates to the garage are made on their own according to a strict algorithm. First of all, decide on the type of mechanism for their closing / opening. We have already talked about the hinge-lever system. It is recognized as the most convenient, especially if the structure is being built by hand. The main thing here is to achieve a strictly vertical installation of the guide elements.

In some cases (in particular, when installing heavy and large-sized gates), such a mechanism may not cope with the lifting of the sash. Then you should pay attention to the lifting system, which includes a counterweight. When implementing it, a metal cable should be attached to the lower corners of the support frame and securely fixed, and it should be held in the direction of the pulley along the block. A load is placed on the end of the cable. The mass of the latter is selected taking into account the weight of the structure. The counterbalanced mechanism is laborious to install. Therefore, if the gate has a standard weight and normal dimensions, it is better to install a hinge-lever system.

Next, develop a design project. Measure the parameters of the caravan opening for your vehicle, view the drawings available in the public domain. Use ready-made sketches or create your own project based on them. Below we provide a detailed drawing that will allow you to create lifting with a minimum of time.

Then stock up on metal pins and rods, strong blocks of wood, brackets, steel corners, rigid springs, if you plan to finish the structure - also decorative elements. Now you can proceed directly to the assembly of the gate. More on this later.

Assembly of the lift-and-turn structure - we bring the project to life

The door frame is assembled from two vertical timber bars of the required dimensions and one cross member. These parts are interconnected by metal plates or corners (the second option is preferable). Then follow these instructions to enter:

  1. 1. Embed the lower part of the door leaf into the floor base of the garage (into the concrete screed) by 2 cm, and then fix the structure with the pins in the opening.
  2. 2. Assemble the frame, cover it with corrugated sheet.
  3. 3. Make a support from the corner. Drill three holes in one shelf of the product (they will be used for mounting the bracket), in the other - one hole (for attaching to the racks).
  4. 4. Using the channel bracket, make the spring support. Connect the spring and bracket with a steel plate. Bend the outermost coils of the spring (you should get some kind of hooks). Connect a metal bar to them, which will act as a tension controller.
  5. 5. Make a pivot (bottom) corner. Drill an 8.5 mm hole in the corner, weld this product to the base frame. Then install the lever to lift the gate. Weld a steel plate to its end.
  6. 6. Make a rail (connect the corners by welding), attach it to the previously prepared plate with one end. To the second end, stepping back from it about 0.15 m, weld a piece of the channel. Connect the latter with a bolt to the beam on the ceiling.

Now you need to install the rubber edging on the structure. If you wish, additionally glue the expansion joints. They will increase the stability of the folding structure. All you have to do is fix the canvas in the box with high quality. The gate is ready! You can use them for 10-12 years without the need for any repair work.

The garage is becoming an integral part of any home or summer cottage, since almost every family has a car and very often not one. As you understand, a garage cannot exist without high-quality, reliable and convenient gates, so you need to be very careful when choosing the design of future gates.

Varieties of lifting gates

Today, lifting gates have become commonplace and are very common. Their main advantage is incredible functionality and comfort of use.

Due to their compactness, they are perfect for all types of garages and yards, they can work in confined spaces and are great for saving you time and effort when opening. Today there are such types of lifting gates:

Lifting-sectional

The main canvas consists of panels, which are assembled into a single non-rigid structure and are capable of bending as it rises and leveling into a rigid canvas when closed.

Sectional lifting gates

Lift-and-turn

The front panel is one-piece and absolutely not deformable. The rise of such a structure occurs along a curved path, the upper part goes a little deeper into the garage, about thirty percent of the total height, and the lower part goes out, the remaining segment.

You should choose this or that variety, taking into account your preferences and features of the garage itself, as well as the amount of free space next to the entrance. Also consider the cost, as well as the complexity of self-installation, since both of these parameters will differ for each type.

The most widespread version of garage doors at the moment is an overhead garage door.

Further, in the article you will learn how to make an overhead gate with your own hands, but first you need to know the design of an overhead gate. They consist of a frame, which is securely fixed in the garage opening, the door leaf itself and the mechanism that carries out the movement.

The upper edge is fixed on two slats along which it moves on rollers approximately at a height of two-thirds of the lower edge, side rollers are fixed, which move along the side rivers. The whole system is set in motion by one or two drives, or in extreme cases it is manual opening of the gate.

We collect the necessary materials and tools

Depending on the features and type, the amount and type of material will change, but for the simplest gate, which you can easily make with your own hands, you will need the following materials:

  • Wooden bars with a section of 120x80 and 100x100, for the box and the ceiling, respectively.
  • Metal pins for fastening.
  • Frame and rail corners, 35x35x4 and 40x40x4.
  • Channel bracket 80x45.
  • Spring, with a diameter of 30 millimeters inside.
  • A metal rod with a diameter of 8 millimeters.
  • Actually, the canvas itself.
  • If required then buy a drive for automation.

Of the tools, you will need the simplest things that you can easily find in your garage, namely: a hammer, tape measure, pencil, a set of wrenches, a drill, a level, screwdrivers, drills for metal and wood, a grinder and a welding machine.

Step by step instructions

The whole installation process is quite simple and will take place according to the following plan:

  • Frame manufacturing.
  • Installation of rollers.
  • Creation of a shield.
  • Installation of additional elements.

So, we begin the process by designing the future structure. It is best to do this in advance so that in the process of work you do not have any hesitation and difficulties with calculations, since your head will be busy with many different things to do, and the work will move very slowly, and the result may turn out to be of lower quality.

Step 1: Measurements of the opening

The first step is to measure the garage opening, and then transfer it to paper. Based on the resulting values, make a small sketch of the future design, if you do not know this, it is better to use any of the ready-made drawings that you like.

Measurements must be carried out carefully during installation, because this type of design should not have even the slightest distortion.

Step 2: Fixing the main frame

Once you know which gate you want to make, you can get to work. Homemade lifting gates are made on the basis of a wooden box, which is assembled into a single frame. Individual bars are twisted with metal corners or plastics using a self-tapping screw, nails or bolts.

The resulting frame is fixed in the opening, the lower part should go deep into the floor to a depth of three to five centimeters. It is necessary to fasten the frame with metal pins to each wall and to the floor. For reliability, for each running meter it is necessary to use one pin with a length of thirty centimeters or more.

Watching the video: Making the frame of the canvas

Step 3: assembling the canvas

The fabric is assembled very simply: a metal frame is made for it from the corners, and on top it is sewn up with a sheet of metal. To decorate the gate, it is fashionable to decorate the sheet with various decorative panels. Penoplex, mineral wool and so on are used for insulation and sound insulation.

Step 4: We fix springs and mechanisms

It is best to choose springs from 65G steel.

We take the corners and make a support for the guide mechanism. We drill two holes on one of the shelves, through which the structure will be fixed on the supports.

On the other hand, we drill three holes with a diameter of one centimeter to secure the spring bracket. The bracket and the spring are connected with an adjustment plate.

Thus, a ring is obtained on the upper part of the spring, and a thread on the lower part. From below, using the corners, we make a knot of hinges, with a hole of about one centimeter.

It is welded to the frame next to the bottom rib and the middle of the hole for the lift arm, about twelve centimeters apart.

Step 5: We make guides, rails

We boil the plate for adjusting the tension on the end of the lever. We make guides from the corners. They are welded in such a way that the inner dimension is five centimeters.

The frame is formed with a thick corner. With a 25-ke canvas, it is best to use a 75th corner, and with a 50th canvas, a weave corner.

At the edges of the rail, latches are attached, which will hold the sash in the open and closed position and prevent the rollers from sliding into the rails.

We fasten the rails with bolts to the wall, accurately measuring the level, it is best to do this by opening the gate halfway so that the rollers are in the middle of both guides.

Step 6: The final stage

After all the installation work is completed, the entire system must be painted so that the metal does not corrode and deteriorate too quickly. Hard-to-reach places, and places adjacent to walls and other surfaces should be painted before starting installation. After that, letting the structure dry up, you can start operating it.

We make automation

Having made the lifting gates with your own hands, you should think about their automation, since it is not always convenient to run and open them all the time. For example, in winter or when it is pouring rain, you don't really want to go out and fiddle with locks and other things. It is best to do this while sitting in the car or just when leaving the house.

It is very easy to automate swing or swing gates, you just need to purchase a suitable operator and install it according to the instructions that come with the kit.

All drawings must be there and, the drawings will show you clearly how to install. The mechanism for swing gates depends on the method of its installation and can be of the following varieties:

  • Installation is carried out on the door leaf.
  • They are mounted on rails.
  • The drive is installed on the side racks.

Which one is more suitable for you must be decided independently, as it will depend on the design features, the weight of the gate, your preferences and other factors.

To date, a wide variety of garage doors have been developed and successfully implemented in practice. Among all the existing options, traditional lifting gates, which effectively slide under the ceiling of the garage during opening, are especially convenient and ergonomic. At the same time, you can assemble and install the overhead garage door yourself.

There are 2 main types of overhead garage doors.

Overhead sectional door

The curtain of such a gate consists of a number of individual panels, each of which is about 50 cm high. Steel, wood and plastic can be used for the manufacture of panels.

Hinge hinges are used to connect the panels. Rollers, couplings and other moving elements are made of steel or plastic; stainless materials are used for the manufacture of guides.

The inner part of the canvas must be insulated (mainly with polyurethane foam), which allows you to keep additional heat inside the garage.

Among the main advantages of overhead sectional doors, the following points should be noted:

  • safety of use;
  • simplicity and maximum ease of use;
  • good strength characteristics.

The main disadvantage of this type of gate is the almost complete absence of the possibility of breaking and illegal entry. In addition, you cannot make such a gate yourself - it is extremely difficult.

The only available option is to buy a factory kit and assemble the gate yourself according to the instructions.

Lift-and-turn gates

A similar structure can be assembled and installed independently. When these gates are opened, the whole leaf rises at once. A hinge-lever system is responsible for the movement of the movable part. The gates are characterized by excellent strength characteristics (the final indicator depends on the properties of the material of manufacture) and provide reliable protection of the garage from intruders.

The structure can be assembled without using guides and rollers. Thanks to this, the canvas will move silently.

The assembly of such a structure does not require narrow technical knowledge. This event does not require large financial investments either.

Advantages and disadvantages

Like all existing mechanisms, overhead garage doors have a number of strengths and some disadvantages.

Dignity

The main advantage of the systems under consideration is their increased anti-burglary resistance. The only way to get inside the garage is to cut through the canvas. It is almost impossible to cut the frame and get inside without attracting attention.

The second important design advantage is its long service life. However, in order for the gate to serve for a really long time, high quality galvanized metal should be used for the manufacture of the door leaf.

The gate does not take up the space in front of the garage, which makes entry and exit as convenient as possible.

Flaws

Among the main disadvantages of overhead gates, the following provisions should be noted:

  • heavy construction weight. The disadvantage is relative - other existing designs weigh no less. But in order for the operation of the overhead door to be safe, special attention must be paid to the quality and reliability of the frame;
  • slightly increased consumption of raw materials;
  • some inconvenience when entering the garage. For example, you will need to constantly get out of the car without reaching the garage about 1.5-2 m - without such a margin, the gate simply will not open.
  • in the open position, the gate takes away about 20-30 cm of the opening height;
  • in case of significant damage to the canvas, it will have to be completely dismantled.

However, despite all its small drawbacks, such a gate is an incredibly convenient and ergonomic solution.

Features of the design

Traditional overhead gates are composed of many elements. Check out the features of each.

The frame serves as the basis for the entire structure. The frame should be as rigid as possible and securely fixed in the garage wall.

The side profile is the guiding element along which the main part of the structure moves.

Guides - as already noted, you can do without them. But if possible, it is better not to exclude them from the structure.

Canvas. Manufactured as a one-piece device. Usually it is made of corrugated board. Sometimes wood is also used for the manufacture of canvases, but it is better to refuse such a decision - the material is heavy and relatively short-lived.

Insulation. Stowed between sheets of canvas. It is most convenient to use polyurethane foam.

Rollers, springs and levers. These elements are responsible for the movement of the gate leaf. The sash rises along the guiding element, takes a horizontal position closer to the ceiling and is finally fixed parallel to the ceiling surface.

Provides easier blade lifting.

Electrical or mechanical drive. Electronics is more convenient - to control the gate, just press a button on a portable remote control. Mechanics are more reliable in most cases. If you decide to use an electric drive, remember an important rule - the gate shield should have a slightly lightweight design.

If desired, the finished canvas can be decorated with a variety of decorative elements. They are all available for sale in specialized stores.

It is important to remember: any decorative element, especially if it is forging, contributes to an increase in the weight of the structure. Know when to stop.

What to buy?

Most of the gate elements can be made with your own hands. However, there are such things that it is better to buy ready-made and not waste time. Look for fixtures made from good quality metals. In general, you will need the following:

DIY gate

Hand-made production and installation of gates will allow you to save a significant amount of money on the purchase of a ready-made system and the services of third-party installers.

Video - Installation of sectional doors

First step. Select the appropriate type of gate opener.

The most popular are hinge-lever mechanisms. This design is durable and extremely simple. However, its installation requires the installer to be more precise when placing the rails and setting the tension level of the springs. The guides must be installed exclusively vertically and parallel.

The second option is a mechanism made with the use of counterweights. The cable is attached to the corners of the support frame in its lower part, passes through the block in the direction of the pulley, and already at its (cable) end there is some counterweight. The heavier and larger the blade, the heavier the counterweight must be used. It is recommended to give preference to this mechanism only in the case of installing massive and very heavy lifting gates.

Second step. Draw up a gate project. Pre-measure the existing opening and prepare a sketch (or choose a ready-made version from open sources).

Step three. Prepare accessories for gate assembly. You will need the following:

  • high strength wooden blocks;
  • good quality metal pins;
  • corners;
  • brackets;
  • stiff springs;
  • metal rods;
  • decorative elements.

Fourth step. Assemble the box of the future gate from a cross and a pair of vertical bars. Use squares to connect the bars, plates are also suitable.

Fifth step. Embed the bottom of the box into the concrete screed of the garage floor about 20 mm and fix the product in the opening with metal pins.

Sixth step. Assemble the frame and sheathe it with the material of your choice.

Seventh step. Make a support. Use a corner as a starting material. Use a drill to drill a hole in the shelf to fix it to the uprights. In the second shelf, prepare already 3 holes for installing the bracket. Use a channel bracket to make the spring support.

Eighth step. Prepare a plate from a strip of steel. Connect the bracket and a suitable spring with a steel plate. Bend the extreme coils of the fixed spring like hooks. Connect a metal bar tension controller from below.

Ninth step. Make the bottom hinge corner. You need to drill a hole about 8.5 mm in diameter in the corner and weld the product to the support frame of the structure, while stepping back from the bottom edge to the center of the prepared hole. The gap will allow you to place the lift arm in the desired location on the pivot.

Tenth step. Attach the plate to the end of the lift arm. Use welding to securely fix the elements.

Eleventh step. Make rails for the movement of the door leaf. Use a couple of corners as starting material. Arrange them and weld along one edge. The distance between the inner vertices of the steel corners should be 50 mm.

Twelfth step. Attach the finished rail to the previously prepared plate. Use welding for fastening. When doing so, leave an 8 cm gap between the axis of the guide piece and the edge of the cross piece at the bottom. Attach a piece of channel to the second end of the rail by welding, while retreating about 15 cm.Then screw the channel to the ceiling beam with a bolt.

Thirteenth step. Mount several translucent inserts into the canvas. This is an optional item. Use translucent inserts when you need to improve natural light inside the garage.

Fourteenth step. Stick on the rubber sealing bead. It also does not hurt to stick on compensating pads. Together, these elements will increase the stability of the self-made lifting gate.

Fifteenth step. Fix the canvas in the box.

Thus, in self-assembly of overhead garage doors there are no super-difficult tasks, but this work must be approached with maximum responsibility and knowledge of the matter. Follow the instructions, do everything as accurately as possible, and the doors of your garage will become its reliable and durable protection.

Happy work!

Technology does not stand still, which directly affects many structures. The same is true for garage doors. Once the most common option was swing gates, but gradually they began to use sliding gates instead, which after a while changed the lifting models. Speaking about the last version of garage doors, one should note their high reliability, due to which they become an impregnable barrier for burglars.

An important feature of overhead gates is that they do not require additional space when using the garage. This allows the owner to have more freedom to maneuver when he needs to drive into the garage. Despite the fact that lifting garage doors are offered by many companies, every car owner is able to independently make this structure. It is enough just to prepare the necessary tool, take care of assistants and become familiar with the technology of work execution.

Types of lifting gates

All lift-type garage doors presented to date can be divided into two types:

  • swivel;
  • sectional.

Installation of overhead gates seems the most reasonable solution in a situation where:

  • the level of placement of the lintel of the garage opening is too underestimated or it is absent at all;
  • the owner is faced with the task of providing the gate structure with increased reliability;
  • the owner had a desire to equip his garage with a more modern door option in terms of design.

It is wise to think about installing sectional doors when there is enough space in the garage to move the structure from a vertical to a horizontal position. In terms of installation technology, they are similar to rotary ones: the inner part of the opening acts as a place for their placement. The basis of the door leaf design forms several sections that remain mobile relative to each other. When using a similar design, access to the garage is opened by moving the sections upward along the guides installed on the surface of the walls and ceiling of the garage.

How to make an overhead gate with your own hands?

The first stage of work is the development of the drawing. This the sketch has a standard version, so you can easily find it on the net.

Based on the example drawing, you can start measuring to get the necessary data to create your own sketch. For this we need a pencil and a ruler. During measurements, it is necessary to determine the following parameters:

  • opening height;
  • opening width;
  • the height of the lintel (meaning the distance starting from the top point of the opening and ending at the level of the ceiling against the wall);
  • the distance the opening is removed from the side wall;
  • the depth of the garage.

When the drawing is created, you can proceed to create the frame. The frame from the old gate can serve as a basis for it. You can also do otherwise - make the frame yourself, using wooden beams as a material.

Frame design

The standard version assumes the following components:

To make a wooden box, you should take care of the following materials:

  • timber having a length of 2.3 meters and a section of 120 X 80 mm - 2 pcs.;
  • a bar having a length of 2.75 meters and a similar section as that of the first - 1 pc.

For joining bars use metal corners that can be replaced with plates.

A 35 x 35 mm corner corner can be used as the basis for the door leaf frame. The inside of such a frame is sheathed from the inside with a board, and from the inside with a steel sheet. When sizing the frame should be guided by the dimensions that has an opening in your garage. Most often, the canvas has the following dimensions - 2.5X 2.1 meters.

Channel # 8 is used to create the spring support. This element must be 70 mm long.

For the production of the guide rail, it is permissible to use several corners of 40 x 40 mm. It is very important that the length of the rail exactly matches the width of the door leaf. One end of it should have a plate with which the rail will be installed to the horizontal beam of the box. Having stepped back from the other end 12 cm, they begin to fasten by welding a piece of the channel, the length of which should be 100 mm. The installation of the rail to the ceiling beam is carried out through the upper flange of the channel, for fixing which a bolted connection is used.

The hinge assembly is made from a corner. To do this, you need to make a hole with a diameter of 9 mm in it. Then it is fixed on the frame, after which, using welding, a plate is installed with a similar hole. The used plate must be made with the following dimensions - 50 x 40 x 5 mm.

These are the main works that need to be done when making an overhead gate with your own hands. Large there will be no difficulties here however, it will be easier for you to perform operations if you have an assistant.

Sectional door installation

If you have an idea to make a sectional door with your own hands completely from the very beginning, then we recommend that you abandon this idea. They are distinguished by the presence of a complex structure, and therefore you are unlikely to be able to manufacture these gates as needed in accordance with the technology. It will be much easier for you if you buy ready-made gates, which any owner can independently install. In order to avoid problems during the execution of this work, there are some important points to keep in mind:

  • installation work should be carried out using original consumables. The use of cheaper analogs of unknown quality may negatively affect the quality of the installation;
  • during installation you should be guided by the original drawings manufacturer;
  • make sure that all elements are in place. Errors in their placement can affect the operation of the installed doors.

Sectional door installation process

Work begins with the preparation of the opening, following the requirements of the sectional door manufacturers. It should be remembered that according to their assurances, purchased from them products will demonstrate trouble-free operation provided that the lintel and the shoulder of the opening are located exactly in the same plane. In this case, skewing of the vertical and horizontal lines of the indicated elements, which should form a regular rectangle, is unacceptable. To make it easier to comply with the requirement of perpendicularity and parallelism, a measuring level should be used.

You need to make sure that there is enough space in the garage when the opening is completely open to install the panel. A similar check should be performed even when you decide on a design option.

The depth of the garage must match the height of the door. In this case, it is allowed to have an allowance of 500 mm in the event that you have no intention of equipping the gate with an automatic opening mechanism. If you want to add automation to the design, you will need to increase the door height by 1000 mm.

It is also important to remember that the weight of the gate will exert pressure on the ceiling and lintel. For this reason, materials of increased strength should be used for their manufacture. The material of the shoulders should also have the same properties, since they will act as the installation site for the gate guides.

You can easily cope with the installation of automatic gates with your own hands if you have experience in working with electrical equipment. If you have not yet managed to acquire a garage on your site, then alternatively, consider sliding gates, which can also be equipped with an automatic drive.

Having finished the work on preparing the opening, you can choose a place for fasteners and guides.

It is very important to correctly assemble the section. Install the bottom panel first. Try to do everything as carefully as possible, paying special attention to distortions and gaps between individual structural elements, which should be absent. It is forbidden to remove them using improvised means in the form of polyurethane foam or planks.

Try to exactly follow the assembly instructions, since in case of violation, the likelihood increases that at some point a malfunction will occur in the gate operation.

Then you can proceed to placing the canvas in its place. Pay special attention to ensuring that it fits as tightly as possible to the base. This is done by changing the position of the adjusting brackets.

The standard design of overhead sectional doors provides for the presence of seals, which can be made on the basis of rubber and polymer rubber. The place of installation of the rubber seal will be the side of the panel adjacent to the floor. As for the rubber element, it should be attached to the top and to the sides.

After completing the installation of the gate, you can start attaching handles, locks, bolts, as well as other elements and automation systems.

Do not forget that the do-it-yourself installation procedure for overhead and sectional doors has its own characteristics. To choose the most suitable option, proceed not only from your own preferences, but also from the size of your garage.

Pay special attention to the material from which the guides will be made. It must be metal of sufficient thickness, then the elements can cope with the weight of the door leaf. High the door leaf should also have reliability however, if you wish, you can decorate its outer part with plastic. Thanks to such a solution, you will give it a modern look, which will make it as similar as possible to the factory version.

Be especially careful with the rollers, as they are the least protected among all structural elements. When installing them, make sure they are secured as securely as possible. However, first you need to decide on a suitable version of the rollers. Considering that they act as a moving element of the gate structure, their strength characteristics will be the lowest.

Most owners are often limited to the installation of one or two videos. It is best if you choose a roller system with more elements. By acting in this way, you can count on their high reliability, while if one roller breaks, this will not affect the operation of the entire structure. The gate will function without visible changes, and you will be able to find a suitable replacement.

Do-it-yourself installation of overhead doors is an effective solution to the problem of protecting the garage, which, among other things, will provide you with comfort when using them. Any owner can do this job. But here, as in any other business, it is important to pay especially careful attention to the nuances. Having decided to make a garage door of a lifting type with your own hands, carefully approach the choice of materials that must have high strength characteristics.

Also it is important to follow the installation technology exactly, given the features of the garage. Provided that all recommendations are followed, you can count on your new garage doors to serve for a long time without requiring much attention to maintain them.

Garage owners decide to install do-it-yourself lifting gates. Buying a ready-made version is not a cheap pleasure, but everyone can assemble the structure on their own. You just need to familiarize yourself with the drawings and the principle of the mechanism. Photos and videos will help you understand how the garage doors are arranged and design them yourself.
