Hanging mechanism for sliding doors. Features of the mechanism of sliding doors to the room. Rollback system design

Sections of the article:

Before determining what is good and bad for a particular mechanism for sliding doors, it is advisable to conduct a brief overview of its most common types. Most doors use only three design principles: sliding, swinging open and folding.

Of these three, swing doors are the most popular. They historically appeared earlier than others and have a design familiar to everyone: the door is fixed in the opening with hinges and can move in one of two directions. This design has a significant drawback: when open, the door occupies a fairly large area.

Folding doors are used relatively rarely. Sliding door mechanisms of this type involve the movement of several panels with the help of springs, allowing the structure to fold quite compactly. You can observe this type of door in public transport. The disadvantages of this type of construction include a small degree of sound insulation.

Sliding door design

The construction set of mechanisms for sliding doors, in addition to the door panels, also contains a number of parts necessary for assembly. Here is a list of the standard delivery items:

  • door panels;
  • Box;
  • Guide elements;
  • Fittings;
  • Cassette.

The listed parts are included in the standard minimum, so even the absence of one of them may make assembly impossible.

door panels

The number of panels for a sliding door can range from one to eight. Any door can be used as a door panel, except for doors with a non-standard profile, such as, for example, arched doors.

Single sheet system.

door frame

Despite its name, the door frame is U-shaped. This structural element is placed in the opening, and panels are mounted directly on it using the mechanisms of sliding interior doors. The process of mounting the box is carried out using screws or adhesives.

Most often, the door frame is completed with decorative elements, the only function of which is to enhance the aesthetic qualities of the door.

rail mechanism

The rail mechanism is the part that performs all the functionality of the sliding door mechanism, so the installation process of this element should be taken with all responsibility.
To limit the possible gap of movement of the door, two limiters are provided, one of which is attached from below, and the second from above.

The number of rollers that ensure the sliding of the door along the guide rails should depend on the mass of the door leaf: the greater the mass, the more rollers.

The rail mechanism is a rather complex structure, so choosing it yourself is not recommended. The best solution would be to purchase this roller mechanism complete with sliding door panels.

accessories

For the most part, a variety of door handles belong to this class of parts. But in the case of sliding doors, the handles must have a special shape that minimizes the protrusion of the handle beyond the surface of the door leaf. This design allows you to hide the sliding mechanisms in the door cassette.

The standard set of mechanism for sliding interior doors already includes such a handle, but if necessary, you can choose and mount the appropriate fittings yourself.

Sliding door fittings also include cylindrical elements that allow the door panel to move with a light touch of the fingers.

Cassette

This structural element may not be included in the standard configuration of the sliding door. Its principle can be illustrated by the example of a video cassette: if we imagine that the door leaf is a video cassette, then the cassette is a box in which the video cassette fits compactly.

The key to quiet and smooth operation of sliding interior doors is high-quality fittings. Roller structures have a complex structure and require the use of an extended set of elements.

The set includes:

  • guides. As a rule, modern door systems are hinged. Large and heavy sliding doors are often equipped with a floor rail. Guides are made of steel and aluminum;
  • rollers equipped with bearings. Elements often have a rubberized shell for softness of movement;
  • accessories for rotary models. The functioning of these original products provides a rotary mechanism;
  • pencil cases. Metal structures are built into the wall, only the sash remains in sight;
  • special handles.

The main criterion is the weight of the wings. For heavy sliding doors made of solid wood or glass, it is better to purchase reinforced rollers. Also pay attention to the following nuances:

  • the rail should be twice as long as the interior canvas;
  • the floor track should ideally have a seal that prevents clogging;
  • aluminum profile is quieter than steel;
  • the number of accessories is selected based on the size and number of sections.

You can personally evaluate the entire range in the showroom in Moscow.

Traditional swing doors are not always a good solution. When opening for such a model, you need to leave a fairly decent area unoccupied. But sliding doors on rails and rollers do not take up space at all when opened.

Sliding folding door mechanism

Sliding system mechanism

There are several options for interior doors of this kind, but the principle of movement remains largely the same. Its essence is to provide not opening, but displacement of the sash along the wall or the second sash. At the same time, the area near the doorway remains free, and the doorway remains open.

Sliding door bottom rail

To achieve this effect, use a special mechanism. Along the movement of the door leaf on the floor, wall or ceiling, a special type of profile is fixed - guides or rails. Rollers are installed on the door itself. When opening, the rollers move along the guide, and the sash moves to the side.

Sliding doors with glass inserts

There are 2 types of such a system.

  • Floor - the door leaf is inserted into two guides - upper and lower. The main rollers in the lower part of the web provide movement along the lower guide, the upper rollers move along the upper rail, holding the web in a strictly vertical position. This option is very reliable and durable.
  • The suspension system assumes the absence of a lower guide. In this case, the rollers are fixed only in the upper part of the product. When opened, the rollers move along the top rail, providing both movement and vertical hold. The option is more effective and more suitable for interior doors: the lower guide forms an unpleasant threshold, and in this case it is absent.

Hanging sliding door system

However, the suspension system requires reinforced fittings, so it is not suitable for doors made of heavy materials - solid wood, glass, for example. In the photo - doors on rails in Leroy Merlin.

Varieties of interior doors

In Russia, a solution of this kind is extremely popular, so you can find products that are optimal in terms of cost and quality not only in specialized stores, but also in large hypermarkets, for example, Leroy Merlin. There are always several dozen different models in the catalog.

Accordion doors in Leroy Merlin

But before choosing a product by color or shape, you need to decide on the type of interior door and the principle of opening, and they are different.

  • Sliding doors - 1 or 2, the most famous option in Russia. This is a classic model - hanging or floor, performed in all possible styles. Guides can be installed both on the wall and on the opening or even on the ceiling, and the material used for manufacturing is very different - from chipboard to glass.

Sliding interior doors differ from the sliding wardrobe option by the principle of convergence.

The sashes do not go one after the other, but are joined in the center of the doorway, so that only one rail is fixed on the floor.

  • Cassette - the sash moves according to the same principle, but it does not move along the wall, but inside it. More often, this does not mean a recess in the main wall, but a false panel that is mounted on the outside of the wall. The solution looks very elegant. Doors can be either single or double doors.

  • Folding - the mechanism of interior doors on rails and rollers of this kind is different. When opening, the sash folds at least twice, and then shifts to the side of the opening. In this case, it blocks part of the opening, but practically does not occupy the area of the room. The rollers are fixed only on the top of the product in the center of each part of the sash. They move along the upper guide, the lower one is missing. Folding of a cloth is provided by usual door loops.

Sliding interior doors are increasingly being installed not only in apartments, but also in country houses, office buildings. Such gates have a number of advantages, the main of which are space savings and an increase in the usable area of \u200b\u200bthe premises.

Advantages and disadvantages of interior sliding doors

The choice of this functional element of the interior is due to a number of advantages:

Sliding systems for interior doors also have disadvantages: first of all, poor sound insulation and high cost of fittings. The first takes place when embedding the mechanism into the wall. If you place the sliding door mechanism along the wall, the sound transmission will decrease.

Mechanisms for sliding interior doors can be improved by installing special sensors. In addition, when automating sliding doors, access levels can be taken into account. That is, the door can be opened by code, plastic card or fingerprint.

Design and types of sliding doors

Sliding systems for interior doors consist of the leaf itself, guides and a roller mechanism. Different types of doors may include more than two roller mechanisms, several sections and guides. Consider the principle of operation and the device of sliding doors. The mechanism for a sliding interior door works as follows: the roller mechanism is attached to the canvas, as a result of which the rollers move along the guides, opening or closing the sash.

There are many types of such products, but the following are the most popular: interior sliding compartment doors; cascade sliding; folding type "accordion"; radius. The latter are the most difficult to install. The most commonly used compartment doors, which are the easiest to install.

About the quality of components

The mechanism for a sliding interior door is selected based on the following factors: weight, material and height of the leaf, the need to be built into the wall, the number of rollers. The more complex the system, the better the fittings should be. So, single-leaf interior sliding doors are lighter in weight than double-leaf ones, and you can choose simpler and lighter components for such a product.

Most ready-made kits are equipped with plastic rollers, which are not durable. It is necessary to choose a mechanism for a sliding interior door in advance, even in the process of finishing work, so that you do not have to fix the walls and floors.

Web material

The most commonly installed classic wooden interior doors. High-quality material (oak, maple, cherry) is quite expensive, but the most durable.

Fiberboard products are cheaper, do not deform, but are inferior in quality to their more expensive counterparts. These doors are distinguished by low strength and fairly good sound permeability.

MDF sheets are distinguished by an average level of quality and durability. The most exquisite doors are made of solid wood, but such products will also be very expensive.

Sliding interior doors glass are becoming more and more popular. They use special shatterproof glass, which makes them safe to use.

Glass is tempered during processing during the manufacturing process, so it can be stronger than wood. Products made from this material differ in many parameters: material thickness, surface appearance, properties. They can be installed in rooms with high humidity - swimming pools, bathrooms. The glass door is easy to care for and environmentally friendly.

Plastic sliding doors are best suited for installation in administrative premises.

To decorate the interior, preference should be given to a door leaf made of solid oak or tempered glass. Such products can become the highlight of the room and emphasize the status of the owners.

Choice of accessories

Hardware is of great importance. Poor quality will lead to a quick breakdown of the door mechanism. It is better to give preference to steel or aluminum when choosing a material, as it takes on the main load. Despite the tendency to complete the mechanism with plastic wheels, it is better to replace them with metal ones.

The more metal parts, the more durable the door will be. High-quality components can provide, with proper care for the system, more than a dozen years of service. Accessories for sliding interior doors also include a special cassette if you plan to install the mechanism into the wall.

The locks and door handles in the interior doors also differ. They are "recessed" into the canvas, while in conventional swing doors they are installed on the surface. Locks and handles are usually included in the kit and are combined in style with other details.

Stages of installation of sliding doors

Fasteners and instructions with step-by-step installation are usually included in the finished kit. Typically, sliding systems for interior doors differ in the profile and type of roller system. Therefore, the general principle of installation will be the same.

Installation of a sliding door can be divided into several stages:

Information on how to install sliding interior doors is given in a general way. When installing a sliding door, two mounting options are possible - placing the leaf along the wall or in the thickness of the opening.

Guide marking

To mark the guides, it is necessary to measure the height of the door leaf and set aside its size on the wall above the doorway. From this point, it is necessary to step back seven centimeters up and draw a horizontal line with the help.

Installing guides

The lower edge must be attached to the bar to the drawn line. should be 50 x 50 mm. The beam is screwed to the wall using anchor bolts. In this case, its position must be strictly horizontal.

Several mounting holes are drilled in the metal guide in increments of no more than fifteen centimeters. This part is attached to the lower end of the beam at a distance of 5 centimeters from the wall. This distance is due to the need for free movement of the door along the wall.

Installing brackets for roller carriages

The rollers are assembled by connecting to the carriages and brought into the guide. In this case, it is necessary to check the movement of the rollers along the guides. The wheels should move freely and without excessive noise. The ends are closed with plugs that serve as a stopper for the rollers.

Staples are installed on the upper end at regular intervals. In this case, the number of staples must correspond to the number of carriages.

Door installation

The canvas must be hung, while connecting the carriages with brackets, while it should move easily and not touch the wall.

If everything is done correctly, you can continue with the installation. To do this, the door leaf must be opened all the way and mark the place on the floor where the lower guide element will be attached. After that, the door is removed again.

Using a milling cutter, a full-length groove is made at the bottom end of the blade. In this case, the depth and width of the groove depends on the size of the lower leash. For free movement on the mechanism, it must be slightly larger.

The plumb bob is fixed on the top rail. After careful measurement, the most accurate position of the leash is determined, which is screwed to the floor with self-tapping screws.

The canvas is installed in a vertical position and put on a groove on a leash. By adjusting the bolts of the carriages, it is necessary to achieve their correct placement. The mechanism for a sliding interior door at this stage can be considered installed.

Next, you need to cut the lock and handle into the door leaf, as a rule, the installation hole is already provided by the manufacturer, and the installation process is described in detail in the instructions. Often the kit comes with a lock and handle already installed.

decorative trim

The mechanisms for sliding interior doors have been installed, and only the final part remains - the masking of structural elements. The decorative box is designed to hide the load-bearing timber. Platbands are installed around the perimeter of the entire structure to give it a finished look.

A sliding door today will not surprise anyone. Sliding structures are easy to meet everywhere. They are used for any type of doors, including glass and metal, but are more often used as interior doors and wardrobe doors.

In most cases, cabinets are assembled and installed by hand. The assembly and installation scheme is not very complicated. It is important to choose a quality sliding mechanism and strictly follow the chosen scheme.

Advantages and disadvantages of sliding structures

The main advantages of using a sliding structure are the following:

  • Space saving.
  • Ease of installation, which allows you to install them yourself.
  • No need to mount the box.
  • Noiselessness, reliability and durability of work.
  • Reducing the risk of injury.
  • Possibility of installation of dense any size and automatic control system.

The disadvantages include low tightness and the need to install a canister (in some cases).

Sliding door types

Sliding doors are different from sliding doors. The latter can be folding, in which the wings are folded into an "accordion" or "book".

Retractable structures differ in the ways of opening and the number of wings.

  • Sliding doors. One or two sashes move along guides parallel to the wall in one or opposite directions. They are also used in Versailles compartment systems.
  • Cassette. The difference from the first is that the doors are hidden in a pencil case when opened. It is made by hand from drywall, other materials, or purchased complete with a sliding structure.
  • Radius. They differ in their original shape, determined by the curvature of the guides.

  • Cascading. Each sash has its own guides. There are one stationary and several movable canvases.
  • Intra-hole. The device assumes an option when at the moment of opening the two doors move towards each other, and only part of the opening remains for the passage

Rollback system design

Depending on the weight of the canvas, the sliding mechanism may have a different design. In a simplified form, the sliding door mechanism consists of the following structural elements:

  • Guide with roller carriages. The number of these elements may be different for different types of doors. Made more often from thick-walled aluminum profiles, they are used to fasten leaf flaps in them. Polymer rollers on bearings are installed inside the rails, which provide the necessary smoothness of opening. Attach to wall, floor or ceiling.
  • Limiters or locking mechanisms. Used to hold the sash in the guide.

Types of sliding systems

Depending on the implementation of the constructive idea, retractable systems can have several guides. More often one or two. The location of the support rollers can also be different:

  • Up. This is a hanging system. The suspension of the web is carried out only to the upper guide. The load is distributed only on the upper rollers, and the door is opened without touching the floor.
  • Down below. This is the support system. All load falls on the bottom rail. The top hanger is not used.

The mechanisms themselves for execution and purpose are divided into the following:

  • Standard. This is the simplest and most common option, which does not cause difficulties when installing with your own hands. As a rule, thresholdless.

Designed for a maximum load of 40 to 120 kg, it has bearings in the design.

  • Open type. It is called so because all structural elements are visible. The suspension is designed for a door with a leaf weighing up to 100 kg. Let's do-it-yourself installation of a pencil case.
  • Hidden type. Structural elements are hidden behind the sash leaf. The bottom rail is not used. Not recommended for glass doors. Due to its simplicity, do-it-yourself installation is allowed.
  • With a conductor. A special device ensures smooth movement of the valves. The closer is installed on any type of door and can work in both directions of movement of the wings.
  • Synchronous. The mechanism provides synchronous opening of the wings in different directions. Designed for doors weighing no more than 80 kg. Additionally, the kit includes tension rollers, cable, fasteners and hooks. Do-it-yourself installation is not recommended due to the complexity of the work.
  • Telescopic. The mechanism provides opening of shutters in one party. There are two parallel rails on which doors are suspended, connected by a synchronous opening device. Suspension of up to three wings is allowed.
  • Rotary. This is a new type of mechanism for interior structures. It has the advantages characteristic of sliding, pendulum and swing doors.

What is needed for installation

Do-it-yourself sliding mechanisms are installed on the door using the following tools and components:

  • Drill, screwdriver, screwdrivers.
  • Fasteners - self-tapping screws, dowels and screws.
  • Roulette.
  • Pencil.
  • Aluminum profile. For the standard Versailles design, it is enough to purchase a two-meter bar. The selection of the length for the individual dimensions of the openings is carried out using calculations that can be found on the network.

  • Wooden beam. One or two according to the number of upper guides. The thickness is chosen according to the thickness of the canvas, taking into account the dimensions of the mechanism. Usually - 4-5 cm.
  • Limiters. The number of restrictive brackets must correspond to the number of rails multiplied by two.
  • Guides. The slats should be even, and the material durable and lightweight.
  • Rollers with carriages. The retractable block is the most important part of the system. The service life and functionality of the entire system depends on its reliability and quality. This must be taken into account when choosing.
  • Decorative caps.

After preparing all this, proceed to installation on the sash. Installation can be carried out both on their own and with the involvement of specialists.

Mounting

The scheme and installation order are as follows:

  • The first step is to mark the position of the guides. The rails are installed 15-20 cm above the door, taking into account the height of the roller mechanism. Height is measured from the floor. Horizontal lines are drawn on the wall, which are checked by the level.

Irregularities can lead to spontaneous rollback of the wings, especially when installing the Versailles compartment system.

  • Then a beam is attached under the guide rails. It is mounted above the drawn marking lines. Dowels are used.
  • Guides are attached to the beam. Sometimes they are placed directly on the wall. Be sure to make a small gap between the wall / beam so that the sash does not touch it. The length of the rail must exceed the width of the widow opening.

  • A block of roller carriages with fasteners is inserted into the rails.
  • Brackets are installed to lock the roller mechanisms. They are placed 5 mm from the edge of the canvas.

On the video you can see the installation of the mechanism with your own hands:

  • Next, the canvas is screwed to the brackets with screws. When installing the Versailles compartment system, special attention is paid to the absence of gaps. In the Versailles system, they often already appear due to the synchronous movement of the rollers.
  • Plugs are put on the rails from the ends, and the sliding block is closed with platbands or decorative strips.

Installation of a sliding structure and an automatic control system is not so complicated. If there are skills, the scheme is observed, then any uninformed person can put the sliding block with their own hands.

The quality of components is important. Each element plays a role - a sliding block, a guide, a suspension, a stopper and even screw connections. Italian products of high quality are very popular. They provide exceptionally easy movement of the leaf and tight closing of the wings.
