Step-by-step guide to choosing the right pipe for a bath: external or internal? Proper installation of a chimney from a sandwich pipe for a bath Chimneys for a sauna stove

You should pay quite a lot of attention to the selection of pipes for the bath. The fire safety of the steam room depends on the correct choice of material, as well as the complexity of care and the characteristics of the microclimate, and much more. Let's consider all the features of this issue in more detail.

Varieties of pipes for a bath

In the manufacture of pipes for a steam room, a variety of materials can be used:

  1. Black metal.
  2. Ceramics.
  3. Asbestos-cement building.
  4. Brickwork.
  5. Stainless steel.
  6. Sandwich panels.

Each variety has its own characteristics, which we will discuss further below.

Ferrous metal pipes

Ferrous metal is used extremely often in the manufacture of pipes. The main advantage lies in the low cost. It should be borne in mind that, in comparison with brickwork, ferrous metal pipes cost about 80% less. However, it is worth considering a fairly large number of disadvantages:

  1. Big weight. Pipes made of ferrous metal, as a rule, have a fairly large weight. Therefore, the work on its fastening is significantly complicated.
  2. High fire hazard. The walls of steel pipes are heated in a short time to a sufficiently high temperature. As a result, the surrounding materials may become hot and ignite.
  3. The fragility of the structure due to corrosion instability. As is well known, metals are susceptible to water attack, resulting in corrosion on the surface. Because of this, the metal begins to rot and the strength is significantly reduced.

In addition, do not forget that when the furnace is heated, a sufficiently large amount of condensate can form on the pipe. Such a system has many more disadvantages than advantages. However, one positive side often becomes decisive - if you need to save money, then ferrous metal pipes are more suitable than other materials.

Asbestos-cement pipes

Asbestos pipe has recently been used extremely often. It is produced on the basis of asbestos, which is a non-combustible silicate mineral. Among the main advantages, corrosion resistance can be noted. At the same time, in comparison with brickwork, an asbestos-cement structure is much cheaper. However, there are several significant drawbacks:

  1. Due to a significant decrease in the heat capacity index, the thrust index decreases. As a result, smoke can enter the room from the stove.
  2. A fairly large amount of condensate is released on the surface of the product.
  3. Design features determine the inability to carry out the installation in an inclined position.
  4. It is impossible to create hatches through which it is possible to clean the structure from soot.
  5. Do not operate the pipe at high temperatures. It is worth considering the moment that at a temperature of more than 360 degrees Celsius, the material begins to crack and break.

It should be remembered that the material in question can release harmful substances when heated strongly. An asbestos-cement structure can be called a fairly economical proposal that cannot last long. If there is a need to save money, then pipes made of this material are a fairly profitable and reasonable solution.

The use of bricks in the construction of masonry

The traditional version of the chimney can be called brickwork. The peculiarity of this design is the need to erect the structure at the time of the construction of the structure itself. Most often, brickwork has a rectangular shape, which determines the accumulation of soot in the corners. It is possible to create a round shape, but serious difficulties arise when carrying out such work. The advantages include:

  1. High temperature resistant.
  2. The design provides additional heat transfer, which reduces the likelihood of condensation.
  3. Pretty attractive look.
  4. High reliability and environmental resistance.

But there are several significant drawbacks:

  1. The construction of such a structure requires very large funds.
  2. Due to the high porosity of the surface, a very large amount of soot accumulates on it. That is why there are serious cleaning problems.
  3. Big weight. When considering brickwork, one should take into account the moment that the structure exerts a very large pressure. That is why a solid foundation must be created under the stove and the chimney itself.
  4. Due to exposure to soot and other combustion products, as well as high humidity, poor-quality material is destroyed. If the construction technology is violated, it can collapse very quickly.

In addition, do not forget that strong vortex flows form in the corners, resulting in serious traction problems. Many solve most masonry problems by installing stainless steel pipe inside the masonry.

Stainless steel pipes

There are quite a few reasons why condensation occurs on the inside or outside of pipes. That is why some experts recommend using stainless steel as the main material in the manufacture of pipes. This type of metal has a high resistance to weathering and can last for a fairly long period. Among the main advantages we note:

  1. The light weight of the structure, which determines the absence of the need for the construction of a special foundation.
  2. Due to the increased resistance to high humidity, the design has a long service life.
  3. The inner surface is smooth, which determines the absence of the likelihood of plaque accumulation.
  4. Ease of installation work.
  5. The stainless steel pipe can be installed at the time of construction of the structure or after completion of this work.

In addition, we will pay attention to the acceptable cost of this material.

However, there are several disadvantages, among which we note:

  1. There is a need to perform work on insulation from the outside. Otherwise, the temperature difference causes the formation of a large amount of condensate.
  2. In some cases, stainless steel does not fit the design style of the building.

If desired, you can decorate the pipe with a special casing that imitates brickwork or other finishing material.

Ceramics

For many years, ceramics have been used as the main material. This is due to the fact that this material can withstand high temperatures. Quite often, the finished structure is closed in a special casing. The advantages of ceramic construction include the following points:

  1. The material retains heat well. Ceramics warms up well, and also keeps heat for a long period.
  2. Ceramics tolerate temperature changes. This material can withstand several cycles of heating and quenching without changing the structure. This property of ceramics has been known for many years.
  3. High humidity and chemicals are not corrosive.
  4. High degree of versatility. Ceramic pipes are suitable for a wide variety of furnaces and structures.
  5. All surfaces are smooth, which reduces the likelihood of soot formation.
  6. The structure is practically not affected by condensate.

However, there are certain disadvantages, among which we note the large weight of the structure. That is why it is necessary to create additional fastening elements. Many experts point out that the complexity of the installation work fully pays off.

In addition, do not forget that ceramics have a very high fragility and are afraid of strong blows. That is why in many cases the use of special protective covers is carried out.

Sandwich pipes

Sandwich pipes can be called modern building material. Their features are as follows:

  1. The structure is multilayer, which determines the large thickness. It became possible to produce this type of material only with the advent of modern technologies.
  2. Each layer is responsible for certain functions. An example is that insulating materials are located on the outside, more durable inside, which can withstand a significant load.
  3. The cost of sandwich panels is very high. This is due to the high complexity of the production of sandwich panels, as well as the use of a fairly large amount of expensive materials.
  4. When creating a chimney, technology must be observed, otherwise the design will not have the proper performance.

In addition, the durability of the chimney should be taken into account - many manufacturers guarantee a service life of more than 10 years.

Features of installation work

There are quite a few features of the installation work that need to be considered. An example is the following information:

  1. To begin with, a hole for the chimney of the appropriate diameter is created.
  2. A metal apron is being installed.
  3. After completing the preparatory stage, the installation of the chimney itself is carried out. To begin with, the preparation of fasteners is carried out in increments of about 20 centimeters.
  4. The structure is assembled, after which the pipe is connected to the furnace.
  5. Shibr is installed.
  6. The last structural element that is mounted is the outer part of the pipe, which rises above the roof.
  7. Experts recommend fixing protective bends that will not allow precipitation to enter the furnace.

In general, we can say that there are no special problems when performing this work. When carrying out installation work, attention should be paid to insulating the pipe from external materials that ignite when heated.

In conclusion, we note that before performing the work, the development of the corresponding project should be carried out. Also, for the implementation of the project, you will need a variety of tools, as well as assistance, since it is difficult to perform pipe lifting and other work alone.

It is better to entrust the arrangement of a chimney for a sauna stove to an experienced craftsman, but it will not hurt the owner of a future building on a personal plot to understand the intricacies of such work.

The duration of the preservation of thermal energy in the room, the fire safety of the building, as well as the timely removal of fuel combustion products depend on the correct arrangement of one of the main elements of the bath.

Today, in specialized stores, you can get detailed advice on the purchase of a set of elements necessary for installing a chimney in a bath building. To do this, sales consultants have specially designed software.

Varieties of chimneys for sauna stoves are not limited to metal structures.

What are they like?

Types of furnace chimneys

Chimneys for baths are different:

  • according to the material of manufacture;
  • according to the design features and the place of installation.

For many years, sauna stove chimneys have traditionally been made from fired bricks. Now metal products have become increasingly popular.

According to the location and design solution, they are of two types:

  • chimneys installed indoors and passing through the ceiling and roof;
  • structures brought through the wall and climbing it outside the building (read: "").

Choose the best option, taking into account the advantages and disadvantages of each type of flue pipe.

Brick chimney structures

Previously, chimneys were laid out of bricks, since there was no alternative to this building material during the construction of this element of furnaces. The creation of brickwork is a laborious process. In this case, one cannot do without the use of a laying scheme and the obligatory observance of all design parameters.

Brick chimneys are durable and durable, which has been proven by time. A material such as brick has a structure capable of accumulating thermal energy and evenly dissipating it. A brick structure is much more fireproof than a prefabricated metal chimney produced according to the latest technologies.

A significant disadvantage of a chimney lined with bricks is their rough and angled inner surface. Soot collects on it, which over time begins to interfere with the passage of smoke and reduces traction, which negatively affects the degree of heating of the heating unit.

A brick pipe for a bath stove, heavily covered with soot deposits from the inside, can cause a bath to smoke or even catch fire during kindling from sparks that fall on it (read: ""). As a result, such a situation can lead to sad consequences.

Metal chimneys

Mounting a metal chimney is much easier than a brick building and its installation will cost much less. Sandwich structures currently in use are made with insulation. They are practical compared to single-walled metal products, but they lack the ability to retain heat inside the unit for a long time.

The main advantage of metal structures is the presence of a smooth inner surface, on which there are no edges. Thanks to this feature, the smoke will freely go outside under the influence of a turbulent flow.

Metal chimneys also have a disadvantage. When there is a sudden change in temperature, condensation may form on the inner surface. If such a design for a heater is planned to be installed in a region with long severe winters, then pipes with the thickest possible layer of heat insulator should be preferred.

External and internal smoke extraction system

When choosing a chimney, you should consider which type of installation will be used - internal or external. Each installation method has its advantages and disadvantages, and you also need to know about them before deciding which pipe to use for a sauna stove.

At one time, American architects came up with a method that allows you to take out the smoke exhaust structure on the outer surface of the building wall. This option for installing a chimney began to be used in domestic baths due to the simplicity of the device. The pipe connected to the furnace does not rise to the ceiling of the room, but is led out through the wall of the building.

The advantages of a chimney mounted in this way include increased safety and the fact that it is not required to make isolated transitions in the roof and attic. Laying the pipe out through the wall saves the building from the possible flow of precipitation through the cracks and gaps formed between the roof covering and the pipe.

But the external chimney has a significant drawback - it quickly cools down, which means that condensation forms inside it. To eliminate this problem, the pipe should be carefully insulated.

Another negative point inherent in chimney structures taken out to the outside is the inability to give off additional heat, despite the fact that fuel consumption increases.

There are also combined chimneys. In them, a metal pipe is removed from the device, after which it is taken outside to the street. Then it enters a brick-lined chimney built into the wall and rising to the required height.

The metal chimney structure located inside the bath is placed on top of the heater and raised to the ceiling, laid through the attic and the roof to the level of the ridge located on the roof.

Such chimneys have a great advantage, since all the heat energy received in the furnace, when moving through pipes made of stainless steel or steel, will simultaneously heat the attic and the rooms of the bath building. This means that indoor air takes longer to cool down, resulting in significant savings in fuel consumption.

Provided that the installation of the internal smoke exhaust structure is correctly carried out and the integrity of the joints of the elements is constantly monitored, the system is able to serve without repair for many years.

Such options have a drawback, which is the need to lay a pipe through the ceiling and roof.

Materials for the construction of chimneys

All necessary materials must be purchased after choosing a chimney design option.

To install a brick chimney, you should purchase a heat-resistant brick and a special composition designed for masonry, which is a dry mix. Some experienced stove builders prefer to work with a clay-based mortar. You will also need material to create a fungus above the pipe.

To mount a chimney for a stainless steel or steel sauna stove, first draw up a detailed design drawing with all pipe bends applied to it, and only then acquire the required details.

The places where the smoke exhaust system passes through the enclosing elements of the building should be reflected on the paper. At the turning points of the pipe indicate the approximate value of the bending angle. Based on the prepared scheme, sales consultants of a specialized store will always select all the necessary materials for installation work.

In addition, you will need two metal sheets with holes that are similar to the diameter of the pipe. They will be required for mounting on the ceiling of the bath and on the floor of the attic. A heat-resistant material is also needed for laying around the pipe in the attic. It will serve as protection for flammable elements located around the smoke exhaust structure.

To equip the waterproofing near the pipe on the roof of the building, you will need an adhesive-sealant and a special rubber seal that is placed on the chimney.

Pipe selection criteria

When buying these elements for a chimney system, be sure to consider the following:

  1. The size of their internal section. Pipes for bath stoves made of stainless steel or steel are calculated taking into account the designed power of the unit. For bath buildings, the inner diameter is usually 15–20 centimeters. In the event that the cross section is too large, heat will not be able to linger in the furnace, and pipes of too small a parameter will not create the draft required to remove smoke. At the same time, in none of the sections of the structure, the diameter should be less than that of the outlet pipe of the heating unit.
  2. The length of the chimney pipe cannot be less than 5 meters, and the more accurate value of this parameter depends on the installation location on the roof. If it is planned to bring it out in the middle of the slope, then the pipe must be raised above the level of the ridge by 50 centimeters. The best option for the location of the chimney on the roof is considered to be 1.5 meters from the ridge, but this value is not mandatory and largely depends on the location of the furnace in the room. The quality of traction is affected by the height of the pipe.
  3. In order for the structure to serve for a long time, the thickness of the metal for the manufacture of pipes must be at least 1 millimeter.
  4. Provided that it is planned to install a tank for heating water in the chimney system, this container will operate according to the “samovar” system - it is welded to the chimney pipe. See also: "".

Companies producing this type of pipe make them with a pre-installed hot water tank. It has 2 - 3 holes designed to connect the water supply elements in order to fill the tank and dilute the heated water at the points of its intake.

The device of internal metal chimneys

After the installation of the heater is completed, they begin to equip the chimney structure, performing work from the branch pipe of the sauna stove. This can be either the beginning of a metal chimney or a section of the smoke exhaust structure that connects the heating unit to a brick pipe.

Since there are two types of chimneys, their installation is different. When the pipe is placed inside the bath building, then almost the entire structure is located vertically. The installation of the individual elements is carried out in such a way that each part located above is placed on the one below. This method is called "smoke" editing.

When using the sandwich pipes shown in the photo, they are installed differently, using the "condensate" method. Its essence is that in order to equip the internal part of the system, the upper pipe is placed in the socket of the lower element. For the outer part of the structure, the "smoke" method is used.

Thanks to such a chimney device, the moisture accumulated in the pipe can freely flow down and enter the condensate collector without touching the heat-insulating material, which, in the event of an excess of moisture in it, loses its inherent properties.

The joints of the elements should be located so that the connection is not at the level of the roof, and also does not fall on the attic and interfloor floors. If the heating unit is planned to be mounted in close proximity to wooden walls, they must be protected from fire or overheating. For this, heat-resistant materials are used, such as asbestos boards, which are fixed in two layers.

When installing samovar-type hot water tanks, they must be located near the furnace compartment, directly above it or in the attic, if hot water needs to be distributed not to one room, but to two - a washing room and a shower room.

Before proceeding with the installation of pipes, their joints should be smeared with a heat-resistant sealant and, after completion of work, additionally fixed with special wide clamps.

When, when connecting the individual parts of the chimney, significant gaps remain between them, the part to be inserted is sealed. For this, an asbestos cord is used - a pipe is wrapped around it.

The first of the sections of the structure, attached to the branch pipe of the unit, cannot be made multilayer, it must be made of a single-walled metal pipe with special connections, in which there is a valve. This chimney adjustment element (damper) is used to create and maintain the required level of draft for a while while the bath is warming up. After completion of the furnace, the valve allows the heating unit to store thermal energy for a long time.

To make it easier to lay the pipe through the ceiling, it is advisable to use a box. The height of its walls should exceed the thickness of the barrier by 30–40 centimeters. A distance of at least 18–20 centimeters is left between the walls of the box and the pipe.

The order of installation of this element is as follows:

  1. A square-shaped hole is cut out in the ceiling so that a box enters it, the lower part of which is fixed to the ceiling.
  2. Through a hole made in the bottom, the chimney is taken out to the attic.
  3. Then the box is completely filled to the very top with heat-resistant material having a small weight, for example, mineral wool or expanded clay of the middle fraction. The insulation must be laid as tightly as possible.
  4. In the attic, the box is covered with a metal lid equipped with a round hole. It is placed on the protruding part of the pipe.

As a rule, the elements of the chimney are placed vertically in the attic, but sometimes they can get on the bars of the crate. In this case, a slight bend is made in the structure using bends.

After the roofing material is laid, waterproofing measures are carried out, since moisture can sometimes get into the gaps between the coating of the building and the pipe. An elastic element is put on the pipe. It is fixed to the roof surface with a moisture-resistant sealant, and then securely fixed using roof fasteners. A protective umbrella is installed on top of the pipe - it will not allow various debris, dry leaves, branches, dust and precipitation to enter the structure.

Installation of external metal structures of the chimney

If the chimney installation scheme provides for its external placement, the pipe coming from the heating unit is laid through the wall of the building. To ensure the safety of the operation process, experts advise laying out brickwork, which will insulate the wall when the chimney is led through it.

To turn the pipe in the direction of the wall, you will need a product such as a bend or elbow. These structural elements have bends at an angle of 45 or 90 degrees. They are selected taking into account the installation scheme of the smoke exhaust system.

The pipe to the stove in the bath can be brought out through the wall, both through the box and through the attic floor. The box is then filled with stone wool. Since there may be small gaps around the pipe, they are treated with a heat-resistant sealant.

A tee is installed on the outside of the building. Further from it, the installation of structural elements will be carried out: up, along the wall and to the condensate collection point located below.

For vertical fixation of the chimney, holders are used. To ensure good traction, the pipe should rise about 50 centimeters above the height of the ridge. A protective fungus is placed on top of the head.

Brick chimneys

A chimney lined with bricks can be root or mounted. For stoves installed in bath buildings, the first option is more suitable, which is placed next to the heating unit.

If the stove is built of bricks, then a chimney is attached to it. When the unit is made of metal, it is connected to a brick smoke exhaust system through a metal pipe.

Approximately a brick chimney diagram consists of the following elements:

  1. Smoke damper, which regulates the internal draft of the heater. It is arranged in close proximity to the ceiling. The intensity of fuel combustion and the time the furnace is in a hot state depend on the valve.
  2. Fluff (cutting). Designed for laying pipes through the attic floor. So it is customary to call the thickening of the walls of the chimney, provided that the value of its internal section is maintained. This structural element is needed to protect the materials for the manufacture of the ceiling from overheating and subsequent ignition.
  3. Riser- a straight piece of pipe. It is located above the fluff and runs through the attic.
  4. Otter. It is laid out in the place where the chimney exits through the roof. Its purpose is to protect the truss system from possible overheating. In addition, due to the bricks protruding from the structure, the otter covers the gaps between the roofing material and the chimney masonry.
  5. Neck- this is the place where the pipe narrows to the initial external parameters.
  6. headroom. It is located above the neck. When arranging it, the bricks are laid out so that they protrude outside the walls of the chimney. As a result, the headband provides additional protection from atmospheric precipitation.
  7. Metal cap. Installed at the very top of the chimney. Does not allow dust, dirt, water to penetrate into the system.

Construction of masonry chimney structures

The chimney should turn out to be smooth, without protrusions and openings, with the exception of a hole designed for walling in a stainless steel or steel pipe.

It is laid out of bricks in the form of a pillar with an internal section in the form of a well, the size of which may depend on the power of the unit:

  • "in half a brick" - 130x130 millimeters;
  • "in a brick" - 130x260 millimeters.

The basis for the smoke exhaust system is the foundation. It is laid out of the same thickness as for the oven and forms a common structure with it. The pipe is lifted to a certain row and the valve is mounted. Then they continue to do work according to a scheme suitable for both types of chimney. The number of bricks laid on each side of the structure may vary according to the size of the structure.

The sequence of actions when laying according to the order:

1st row - is the last row of pipe neck arrangement.

2nd row. They start laying out the fluff - the bricks are placed with a shift outward by approximately a third of the length of the brick. In the process of work, it will be necessary to use not only whole products, but also their fragments. To do this, they are broken into the necessary parts with a small pick.

When the bricks are shifted to the side, they should be supplemented with fragments from the inside of the structure, since the inner diameter of the well should remain unchanged during the laying. If this rule is not followed, the traction force can be significantly reduced.

From the 3rd to the 5th row. They continue to lay out the fluff, shifting the bricks by a third of their length and maintaining the value of the internal section.

6th row. Its size is similar to the fifth, but it fits without shifting.

7th and 8th rows. The laying order is similar to the first row.

After completing the creation of the cutting, they begin to build the otter, but this work is difficult, because with the help of each subsequent row, the result should be a step with bricks protruding by a third:

  1. Its first row in size and shape is made similar to the last row of fluff.
  2. Starting from the second row, they begin to lay out the steps, which will expand the structure by one third of the width of the brick to the outside.
  3. All subsequent rows are laid according to the scheme for creating an otter.

Then follows the neck, and after it - the head, consisting of two rows, while the bottom row is made protruding outward. At the final stage put the cap.

As a result, the combustible elements present in the attic floor will be protected by fluff, but it is still necessary to create waterproofing of the pipe, and before the roof is covered with roofing material. Do waterproofing work using mastic and roofing material. It is necessary to apply the mastic on the surface of the lower part of the pipe, and then heat it up with a burner. Next, roofing material is glued onto the hot composition.

Then, a roofing material is mounted on top of the waterproofing close to the pipe, and a decorative finish, called the "apron", is already applied to it. All remaining gaps are filled as densely as possible with sealant so that moisture does not penetrate into the gaps between the brick pipe and the roof.

Despite the fact that it is better to entrust the creation of a chimney to professionals, you can build it yourself. The most difficult task is the installation of pipe laying units through walls and ceilings. You should first study the information available on this topic.

Experts warn: the chimney is a structure, the quality of the device of which depends not only on health, but also on the lives of people, not to mention the integrity of the bath building and the safety of property.

Particular attention should be paid to the fire safety of the structure, since during active combustion the temperature in the chimney of the sauna stove can reach 500-700 degrees. During the construction process, no simplifications in work should be allowed - this can cost a human life.

If you have the slightest doubt about your own capabilities, it is better to order the arrangement of the chimney from specialists.

For quite a long time, stoves were deprived of chimneys, which is why our ancestors had to take bath procedures “in a black way”. Today, such problems do not exist, so being in a steam room brings more positive emotions. Now anyone who has managed to build the bath itself can install a chimney for a bath, because it is not difficult if all the rules are observed - below, in fact, we will describe how to make a chimney in a bath with our own hands - a step-by-step guide is attached.

The installation of a chimney in a bath requires special responsibility, because if even one mistake is made, the correct functionality of the bath will be called into question. It is very important to create all the conditions under which carbon monoxide would under no circumstances be able to penetrate into the steam room. To do this, before starting work, you should outline a plan, including all stages of construction.

What are chimneys

A do-it-yourself installed chimney for a bath can be external and internal. In Russia, you can most often find the second option - it fits perfectly into the architectural style of the steam room, and does an excellent job of saving the heat generated by the stove. External chimneys are usually installed on American farms.

The internal version of the chimney is good because it has a more efficient draft, and is easier to maintain. In addition, there is no need to insulate such a chimney.

The external chimney is remarkable in that there is no need to violate the integrity of the roof, moreover, it is clear that such a design is safer for the bath itself and the visitors inside. The internal brick chimney in the bath must have a wall thickness of at least 12 cm, while the outer chimney will require a thickness of more than 38 cm.

Variations and designs of chimneys

It is worth considering the arrangement of the chimney in the bath for a wood-burning stove. As a rule, such a design includes a pipe, flanges and connecting components. The main thing is that the finished chimney can withstand high temperatures without releasing harmful compounds at that moment.

In order for the chimney located in the wall of the bath to retain as much heat as possible, it should be placed with a shift inside the room - then the draft will be as efficient as possible. If, for some reason, this goal cannot be achieved, provide for sufficiently thick walls, the width of which is determined based on the ambient temperatures.

For example, if the temperature outside does not drop below -20 ° C, then a wall thickness of 38 cm is sufficient, however, if frosts sometimes fall below the above indicator, then the thickness will have to be increased to 58-65 cm.

If there is more than one stove in the bath, there should be several chimneys to maintain normal draft. Otherwise, a cutting structure is installed at a height of 75 cm. In any case, the inside of the chimney should be as flat as possible so that a minimum of soot accumulates on it.

The simplest design of the chimney

Installing a chimney in a stainless steel bath is the simplest type of chimney.

For the design you will need:

  • galvanized knee 20 × 120 cm - 1 pc;
  • galvanized knee 16 × 120 cm - 2 pcs;
  • stainless steel knee 16 × 10 cm - 3 pcs;
  • tee 16 cm with a plug - 1 pc;
  • fungus 20 cm - 1 pc.

To understand how to properly make a pipe in a bath, you will need to do the following work. The pipes are fastened with self-tapping screws, a hole of 16 cm is made in the slab. At the installation site of the chimney, within 15 cm, soft roofing material with thermal insulation is temporarily dismantled from the roof.

The part of the pipe that will protrude into the street is wrapped with basalt wool and asbestos cord to fill the width of the hole made. Next, a pipe lubricated with bituminous mastic is put on, which will be attached with a 20 cm overlap. At the junction of the pipes, to prevent precipitation from getting inside, an asbestos cord is wound.

Chimney installation methods for various stoves

Brick is now increasingly used in the manufacture of chimneys for baths. Although both brick and stainless steel have their own positive and negative qualities, their installation is somewhat different.

Installation of a chimney to a steel furnace

The installation of the chimney is started after the installation of the furnace. The process begins by connecting several supports with the clearances necessary to install wider asbestos or sandwich pipes - they have increased fire resistance. Although, it is still undesirable for open fire to fall on them. In this regard, before the first knee, a steel pipe is installed in the bath, and after that - a sandwich pipe.

Lastly, a protective cone against precipitation is installed on the upper end of the chimney. The lower part of the pipe is closed, as a rule, with a plug, through which in the future it will be possible to drain the collected condensate and clean the inner surface of the chimney.

Fixing a chimney to a brick stove

The scheme for installing a chimney for a bath on a brick oven is also simple, and all work can be done by hand.

The construction of the chimney begins after laying the last brick row of the stove - often this corresponds to the 12-19th row, when the upper level of its side doors is reached.

Somewhere on the 21st row, two channels are created, the size of which is equal to one brick. Then they will merge into one channel. At this stage, three quarters are added to the right in order to cover the free space above the core. You will get a gap between the main masonry and the core of 2-3 cm.

The voids are filled with mineral wool. The 22nd row will completely cover the core, and you can move on to shifting the channels to the central part. So that after a while cracks do not form on the floor, an additional row of bricks can be laid above the core.

The narrowing of the chimney is carried out on the 23rd row. Laying is carried out in five. At this stage, valves are installed - first one, and the second - through the row. Further, the type of masonry gradually changes to fluff.

When doing all the work on installing a pipe for a bath with your own hands, make sure that no cracks form, as condensation may appear in such places in the future. Also, don't take larger diameter pipes than required, as the gas will not be able to rise at the proper rate and it will cool faster.

Installation of a finished chimney for a bath

Naturally, there are also ready-made chimneys. They are easier to install, and it takes much less time to do so. In this case, it is also important to do everything as correctly and efficiently as possible, especially if you are doing all the work without anyone's help.

Whatever the chimney, its installation is carried out so that it protrudes exactly half a meter beyond the building. At the junction of the roof and the pipe, you will need to make an “otter”, thanks to which precipitation will not get inside.

It is worth noting that the appearance of soot on the walls after some time indicates poor installation of the chimney. In this case, it will be necessary to identify the resulting gaps as soon as possible and eliminate them.

Cleaning the chimney from pollution

Among other things, it is necessary to provide a list of measures for the timely cleaning of the chimney. It is best if it is a mechanical method. For cleaning, you will need brushes, a special load, and even a sledgehammer with a crowbar. This process is very dirty, so it is advisable to take out everything that is possible from the bath, and cover the rest of the things with something, such as plastic wrap.

The easiest way to operate is with a brush - it is inserted into the chimney, and is slowly pushed up and down until the movements begin to become more and more easy.

If you notice that small accumulations of soot have begun to appear on the pipe, they can be removed by heating the stove with aspen wood. In the process of burning, a huge thrust arises, which carries the ashes out of the pipe. In addition, when the aspen burns, a strong heat appears, due to which the resins in the pipe instantly burn out. Potato peels are considered no less effective, the main thing is to prepare them in sufficient volume.

However, the latest methods of cleaning with chemicals are gaining more and more popularity. They also effectively carry away all the soot and eliminate build-up. It is worth noting that it is better to clean the chimney after rain.

So we learned how to make a chimney in the bath through the ceiling, while making a minimum of effort and time. With proper timely care of the pipes, firewood will always give maximum energy, keeping the temperature at the proper level, and delighting you and your loved ones!

One of the advantages of such a system

External chimneys

  1. The chimney will not heat the steam room, which will significantly increase the consumption of wood fuel.
  2. The pipe located on the street must be carefully insulated, otherwise the rapidly cooling exhaust gas will not have time to go outside. In this case, the chimney system will need to be cleaned frequently.

There are combined chimneys, which are a metal pipe installed on a wood-burning stove. The design is displayed in the brickwork built into the surface and rises to the required height.

Materials for manufacturing

by the most popular materials for the chimney of a wood-burning stove in the bath are bricks and metal.

brick structures

This is the most common and at the same time labor-intensive version chimney for the stove in the bath. The structure is strong, durable and has high thermal insulation properties. A bath with a brick chimney is most protected from fires. The only disadvantage of the brick system is its rough inner surface, due to which there is a need for frequent cleaning.

Metal chimney

Metal construction is easier install on wood stove and get her out of the room. The disadvantage of metal pipes is the need to create high-quality thermal insulation and the formation of condensate on the inner walls.

When constructing a metal chimney, the following nuances of material selection should be considered:

The easiest way to install a chimney

With the help of a stainless steel pipe, you can make and install the simplest and cheapest chimney structure for a bath. In addition to pipes, you will need to prepare the following elements:

Installation of an external chimney

  1. The entire structure of the chimney rises up and is attached to the wall. It is recommended to install it already assembled. This will make it easier to work at height.

Having fixed the structure to the wall, care must be taken to seal the joints. The vertical pipe must be insulated, and in order to avoid condensation, make insulation.

Since, on which the safety of the structure and the health of people directly depend, there should be no errors and omissions during its installation. Before installing the chimney, it is necessary to study its device in detail.

Chimney device in the bath: types of chimney structures for a wood-burning stove and features of their installation

To remove the products of combustion of fuel, to ensure long-term preservation of heat in the bath and fire safety, a properly arranged chimney is necessary. Therefore, before installing it, it is necessary to find out the main parameters of the chimney and study all the details of installation.

Types of chimneys for a wood stove

Furnace bath chimneys differ according to several criteria. According to the method of installation, they are divided into internal and external.

Internal structures

One of the advantages of such a system is its maximum vertical arrangement, which contributes to good traction. The internal flue provides heating in a steam room and considerably reduces time of its warming up. When installing this design, the cost of wood fuel is significantly reduced.

The disadvantages of the internal system for the furnace include:

Laboriousness in installation. To install the structure, you will need to pierce the ceiling and roof, which reduces the quality of the pipe sealing.

  • Fire hazard. When installing a pipe for a bath, you will have to isolate the passage in the ceiling with special heat-resistant materials.
  • Difficulty in maintenance and repair.
  • High risk of smoke in the sauna room. With a negative impact on the structure and the appearance of cracks on it, smoke will begin to enter the room.

But, despite the listed disadvantages, the heat given off by the chimney installed inside the bath is much more important.

External chimneys

Such designs are an American idea. They are very popular due to the fact that the chimney system located on the street significantly reduces the risk of fire. When installing an external system, the pipe is connected to a wood-burning stove and exits through the wall. On the outer surfaces of the bath, it is attached using special brackets.

The disadvantages of such structures are:

A hole with a diameter of 16 cm is drilled in the slab, pipes fastened with self-tapping screws. The 16 cm part of the pipe exiting through the roof is wrapped with basalt wool and asbestos cord. An upper pipe is mounted on it by 20 cm, which must be well fixed and treated with bituminous mastic. To prevent precipitation from entering the chimney, an asbestos cord is wound around the upper gap between the pipes.

This is the simplest chimney device in the bath. You can easily do it with your own hands.

Device and installation of a sandwich chimney for a wood-burning stove

Made with new technologies chimney system has a multilayer structure. Her body consists of two pipes of different diameters, which are inserted into each other. Between them is placed a heat-insulating gasket in the form of basalt fiber or mineral wool. These materials are resistant to open flames, high temperatures and are immune to chemicals. They perfectly retain heat and dampen sound waves.

The components of a sandwich chimney include elbows, tees, roof passage elements, a condensate collector, a wall clamp, a support console, a mouth, an inspection tee with a door. When choosing these materials, it is necessary to take into account the features of the chimney device in the bath.

Installing a sandwich chimney

Provide construction safety through surfaces is possible only if all the rules and features of its installation are observed.

Stages of work on the installation of a sandwich pipe:

If the distance between the attic floor and the roof is more than one and a half meters, then an unloading unit must be installed on the attic floor. It consists of installation elements and metal corners that are attached to the legs of the truss system. The unloading unit takes on the loads of the pipe coming out of the ceiling and will prevent lateral vibrations.

  • A starter sandwich is installed on the outlet pipe of the wood-burning stove. It must be ensured that the inner pipe at the outlet of the furnace enters the nozzle, and is not located on top of it.
  • Pipe sections inserted into each other, places of bends and transitions are additionally fixed with clamps.
  • To give stability to the structure and close the outlet in the ceiling, a ceiling groove is installed at the place where the pipe passes through the surface. A passageway is welded to it in the form of a pipe of a slightly larger diameter than the diameter of the sandwich pipe. Mineral wool is placed under the ceiling cut, and the structure is tightly attracted to the ceiling with nails or self-tapping screws.
  • In the roofing and the crate, holes are made for the exit of the chimney, which are sealed using a roof penetration. The joints are coated with a special sealant.
  • The outlet of the pipe should be half a meter above the level of the roof covering. A fungus is installed at the top of the sandwich chimney.

After the assembly is completed, the protective film will be removed from the pipes, and all gaps and seams will be sealed. For this, a special heat-resistant sealant is used.

Installation of an external chimney

The best option for chimney construction is a stainless steel pipe. When installing an outdoor system, the main condition should be the absence of horizontal transitions. Otherwise, condensate and a large amount of soot will accumulate in the chimney. As a result, there will be no normal traction.

Basic requirements for the installation of an external chimney for a bath:

It is necessary to exclude the contact of gas pipelines and electrical wiring with sections of the structure.

  • Pipes are attached to the walls of the house using special brackets, between which the distance should not exceed one to one and a half meters. Other structural elements are attached additionally.
  • Each joint between the pipes is clamped with a clamp and treated with a special sealant. This will provide the system with a better seal.
  • For convenient cleaning of the structure, it is necessary to provide removable parts or an inspection window.

Installation of an external chimney starts at the bottom of the structure. Each subsequent pipe section is inserted inside the previous one.

Stages of work on installing a metal chimney outside the bath:

  • The lower part of the pipe is connected to the furnace nozzle in the bath and treated with a sealant. A collar is put on top. It is necessary to connect the chimney to the branch pipe using a tee, pipe or elbow. It all depends on the design.
  • At a height of half a meter from the stove, a hole is made in the wall, through which the chimney is passed through with the help of a passage pipe.
  • At the end of the horizontal pipe brought out, a tee is installed, equipped with fasteners for the vertical part of the chimney. The lower outlet is blocked by a plug, which, if necessary, will be removed to clean the chimney.
  • Pipes are attached to the walls using special brackets. If the main pipe is heavy, then a knee is installed on the support.
  • The entire structure of the chimney rises up and is attached to the wall. It is recommended to install it already assembled. This will make it easier to work at height. Having fixed the structure to the wall, you need to take care of sealing the joints. The vertical pipe must be insulated, and in order to avoid condensation, make insulation. Since chimney is a structure, on which the safety of the structure and the health of people directly depend, there should be no errors and omissions during its installation. Before installing the chimney, it is necessary to study its device in detail.

To remove the products of combustion of fuel, to ensure long-term preservation of heat in the bath and fire safety, a properly arranged chimney is required.

The device of the chimney in the bath for a wood-burning stove

It is difficult to overestimate the importance of the chimney system for comfortable, convenient and safe operation of the bath. Requirements for the performance of work on the device of the chimney:

  • Compliance with fire safety rules. One of the most important requirements, as it is directly related to the safety of human lives. Executed by
    • careful isolation of the chimney from floor materials, usually combustible. In addition, during the design and construction, a significant thickness of the chimney is laid;
    • compliance with the minimum required distance between the chimney and the wall;
  • Good traction. It is also achieved in two ways:
    • the length of the chimney (optimally - 5-6 meters) - the longer it is, the stronger the draft;
    • reducing resistance by maximizing the alignment of the walls of the chimney;
  • High-quality materials that meet the operating conditions;
  • Optimal temperature. The operating conditions of the chimney must correspond to those planned. For example, if the smoke temperature is insufficient at the inlet, condensate will form, which will subsequently lead to the destruction of the chimney structures from the inside.

Features of chimneys for wood stoves

The main feature of the use of wood-burning stoves in the bath is the greater, in comparison with other types of stoves, the heat from them. As a result, the requirements for chimneys must be increased.

thick wall pipe

The simplest chimney design is an installed thick-walled ferrous metal pipe with a wall thickness of 3 mm. and more. Installation takes place using welding. But such a semi-handicraft design is not reliable and fireproof.

Chimney supplied with the stove

In most cases, when purchasing a wood-burning stove, a chimney system is supplied that is ideal for this type of stove. You can install it both independently and with the involvement of third-party specialists. Moreover, the cost of such work is relatively small - it starts from 4-5 thousand rubles.

Structures can be made from a variety of materials, ranging from steel with a diameter of usually 9 to 20 mm. and ending with ceramic pipes. Moreover, it is the latter that are considered the safest and most durable. The following are chimneys made of stainless steel. The next in terms of quality are sandwich pipes. If we return to steel pipes, then the most preferred steel grade is AISI 310S, which has increased heat resistance.

The complete scheme of the "furnace - chimney" design and related systems is as follows.

Particular attention is paid to the passage through the roof or through the wall, depending on the type of chimney construction.

Types of construction of chimneys for wood stoves

The principle of the device is that the exhaust gas is discharged due to the natural draft created. The chimney pipe is led out through the wall and then rises vertically upwards. The minimum height required for normal operation is 5 meters.

Interior

The chimney pipe rises directly from the boiler, passing through the ceiling, upwards with a final exit to the roof. Typically, this type of chimney is made in two layers to increase the fire safety of the system. In addition, the presence of thermal insulation between the layers helps to avoid the occurrence of condensate inside the pipe.

Brick chimney

When constructing a chimney, refractory bricks should be used, laid on a mortar of special heat-resistant mixtures, or using a conventional clay-sand mortar, which is a more economical option that practically does not lose in quality of construction.

Brick chimney device

  • The overhead pipe installed on the furnace. It is equipped with a valve to control the flow of smoke. Masonry is carried out with a mandatory special dressing of bricks.
  • Fluff. It starts 5-6 rows of bricks before overlapping. The cross section of the chimney remains unchanged, and from the outside it becomes wider by 25-40 cm.
  • Riser. Part of a brick chimney running through the attic.
  • Otter. Expansion of the chimney after reaching the roof, preventing precipitation from entering the junction of the chimney and the roof.
  • Neck. The dimensions are similar to the main chimney. An umbrella is placed on it.

The device of the chimney in the bath for a wood-burning stove - types of structures

In this article, we will consider the construction of a chimney in a bathhouse for a wood-burning stove, the requirements for performing work, and the types of chimney designs for wood-burning stoves.

In those days when bath stoves were built without a chimney, our ancestors had to wash themselves “in black”. But today there is no more carbon monoxide or settling soot in the baths - and therefore the design of modern steam rooms has become much more attractive. And those who managed to build a sauna stove even without experience can easily cope with a chimney. The main thing is to follow all safety rules and not to miss any of the details.

The installation of a chimney for a bath is a responsible matter. After all, one mistake is enough - and the bath will not be able to function, and therefore it is so important to do everything slowly and accurately. And it is important in no case to prevent accidental penetration of carbon monoxide into the steam room - and for this it is better to check each completed stage of construction seven times. And everything will work out!

Types of chimneys - internal and external

So, the chimney in the bath can be internal or external. In Russia, it is the internal ones that are more common, which do not violate the architectural style of the steam room and significantly save the thermal energy of the bath - it all remains indoors. But the external ones are more a tradition of American ranches, although you can’t refuse the spectacular exterior of such a design.

Scheme with differences between the external chimney and the internal one

An internal chimney for a bath is good because it has much better draft and is much easier to maintain. Yes, and it does not need to be insulated additionally.

But if you equip an external chimney, you don’t have to make holes in the ceiling and roof, which also has its undoubted advantages. In total, the thickness of the masonry walls of the chimney inside the building is at least 12 cm, and in the outer walls - from 38 cm.

Variants and diagrams of the chimney device

So, what is the device of the chimney for the bath? It usually consists of a pipe, flanges and connecting elements. And the main requirement for it is the ability to withstand really high temperatures and at the same time not emit any harmful substances.

Differences in chimneys along the path of the smoke

To prevent the chimney from losing a lot of heat, you need to place it closer to the inside of the wall - such a draft will be the most effective. But if for some reason this cannot be done, then it is necessary to make solid, solid walls for it, the thickness of which depends on the external air temperature. For example, if it is not lower than 20? C, then it is up to 38 cm, and if there are severe frosts in the area, then a thickness of 58-65 cm will be more optimal.

If more than one furnace is built in the bathhouse, each chimney must still have its own - otherwise the traction force will be seriously impaired. In extreme cases, at a height of 75 cm, a dissection device is still being built. But the surface of the chimney from the inside should be without any roughness - of course, it cannot be made ideal, but it is important to minimize such manifestations so that soot cannot accumulate inside its walls (this is fire unsafe).

The simplest version of the chimney device

So, the easiest way to make a sauna stove chimney is to use a stainless steel pipe. All you need is the following details:

  • One galvanized elbow 20 x 120 cm
  • Two galvanized elbows 16 x 120 cm each
  • Three stainless steel elbows 16 x 10 cm
  • One 16 cm tee with plug
  • One mushroom per 20 cm.

The pipes are fastened with self-tapping screws, and a hole of 16 cm is drilled in the slab. Soft roofing material and thermal insulation are temporarily removed from the roof of the bath 15 cm from the hole. The part of the pipe that comes out must be wrapped with 16 cm of basalt wool and additionally with asbestos cord. After that, a pipe is put on for 20 cm, which must be fixed and well coated with bituminous mastic. An asbestos cord is necessarily wound between the pipes on the upper gap - so that precipitation does not get inside and fungus does not form.

This is the simplest chimney device in the bath, which you can either do yourself or purchase for a small price.

Differences in chimney installation for different stoves

Chimneys for modern baths today are more often made of either brick or steel pipes. Both that and that material have their pros and cons, and their installation is also different.

How to install a chimney to a metal furnace

As soon as the steel or cast iron stove is installed, the installation of the chimney to it begins. In order to the chimney itself, several retaining supports are connected with special gaps for pipe expansion - it is better if they are asbestos pipes or special “sandwiches”, which are much more fire resistant than ordinary iron ones. But the direct effect of fire on them is also undesirable, and therefore the iron pipe is installed up to the first knee, and only then only a sandwich pipe or asbestos-cement pipe.

It remains to equip the upper part of the pipe with rain protection - for example, with a cone-shaped iron plug, which will rise slightly above the pipe and allow smoke to escape more freely. And a special plug is traditionally installed on the lower part of the pipe, which will serve more than once in the future to drain condensate and clean pipes.

Brick oven option

If you make a brick stove for a stove and in the standard order, then it will not be difficult to make a chimney for it with your own hands.

So, as soon as the last brick row of the stove blocks it, the construction of the chimney begins. This usually happens on the 12-19th row, when its side doors overlap.

In this case, two channels are formed on the 21st row - each one brick in size. Later they will be combined into one. Now, on the right side, three or four should be thrown into the opening - to block the space above the core. As a result, the gap between the main masonry and the core will be 2-3 cm, and all voids should be filled with mineral wool insulation. On the 22nd row, the opening above the core will be completely blocked, after which the laying of the channels to the middle begins. And in order for the overlap to not crack in the future, you can lay out another row of bricks above the core.

On the 23rd row, the narrowing of the chimney will begin - the masonry turns into a classic five with the size of a brick of the interior space. This is where the valves are installed - one after the other, where the second is placed through the row.

Now the masonry will smoothly turn into a classic fluff.

When installing the chimney yourself, the most important thing is to prevent any cracks so that condensation does not form. Secondly, the cross section of the pipe should not exceed the norm - otherwise the rise of the gas will be slowed down, which means that it will cool much faster.

What to do if you already have a ready-made chimney?

Of course, it is much faster and easier to purchase a ready-made chimney for a bath - but it is important to install it correctly, although outside help is not required for this.

So, any chimney is placed so that the pipe goes into the open air by exactly 50 cm. At the place where the roof and the pipe join, it is necessary to make the so-called “otter”, which will serve as an obstacle to precipitation.

By the way, the first sign of a poor-quality chimney installation is the soot that has appeared over time on the walls of the bath. In this case, it will be necessary to urgently look for the resulting gap and correct it.

Technology for cleaning a clogged chimney

And finally, it is important to take care of the regular cleaning of the chimney. Its most proven and oldest method, for example, is mechanical. To do this, pick up ruffs, special weights, and sometimes even a sledgehammer with a crowbar. True, this work is so dirty that you will have to take everything out of the bath in advance and cover the remaining surfaces with layers of newspapers.

The easiest of the above is to clean with a brush - for this it is enough to insert it into the chimney and gently push it up until the resistance of the accumulated soot weakens. You don’t just need to twirl it - otherwise you will have to get this tool in parts later.

If small growths have become noticeable in the pipe, you can use aspen firewood - when they burn, an excellent draft is created, which takes the ashes out of the pipe. In addition, the aspen has a dry and strong heat, in which the resinous substances in the pipe from the firebox with conifers immediately burn out. By the way, potato peelings also have the same properties, if they can be prepared in the right amount.

But modern methods of cleaning the chimney are becoming more and more popular - these are chemicals that contain special substances that can carry soot with them when burned, or loosen it so that it falls off by itself.

And it is best to clean the bath chimney after rain. Simple care and regular care for the cleanliness of the pipes - and the firewood in the bath will burn at "five"!

Previously, sauna stoves did not provide for a chimney. Then the ancestors of modern people washed in black. Today there is no more need to inhale and there is no soot - all this is true, because modern baths are created according to new design laws. Basically, people build steam rooms on their own. You should also build a stove and build a chimney for a bath. But we must remember that this is a very responsible matter that requires a serious approach. You can accidentally make one small mistake, and the steam room will not work as intended. Therefore, it is very important to work slowly and very carefully.

Types of smoke exhaust structures

The chimney for a steam room can be external or internal. In our country, you can often find it is the internal options. Among their advantages is the absence of violation of the architectural style, as well as saving heat in the room.

All heat remains inside the steam room. Internal systems are good because they have better traction. They are also easier to care for. Even the internal structure does not need insulation.

External systems are more like American traditional chimneys. They were previously used by the Americans on their ranches. They differ in quite an interesting appearance. If you decide to build an external solution, then there is no need to make a hole in the roof and ceiling, which definitely has advantages. The wall for the chimney inside must be at least 12 cm thick, and for the outer wall, the thickness must be from 38 cm.

Popular schemes for arranging bath chimneys

How is the smoke outlet structure arranged? Any element is a structure of pipes, flanges, fasteners. The main requirement for this building is the ability to operate at high temperatures without any changes in the properties and emissions of combustion products.

So that the chimney for the bath does not lose large amounts of heat, it is located as close as possible to the inner wall.

In this case, you will get the most effective traction. And if there are reasons why this configuration is not possible, then a thicker wall is created.

Thickness parameters depend on temperature. For example, if the temperature is lower than 20 °, then it is necessary to make thick walls, from 38 cm. If there are severe Russian frosts in the region, then the thickness should be about 58-65 cm.

When there is more than one stove in the steam room or bath, then each of them must be equipped with its own chimney. Otherwise, the thrust will lose strength. Smoke extraction experts recommend the following. In cases where it is not possible to build several systems for furnaces, it is necessary to equip a cutting system at a height of about 75 cm. It is also important to consider that the inner surface of the future chimney is as smooth as possible. If there are any roughness inside, then soot will accumulate on the walls. This may increase the risk of fire.

The simplest chimney

This element will be based on a stainless steel pipe. And besides it, you need to prepare one elbow with a diameter of 20x120 cm made of galvanized steel, two elbows of 16x120 cm, three of stainless steel of 16x10 cm. You will also need a tee with a diameter of 16 cm and a plug to it. You also need a fungus that is suitable in size. The diameter of the chimney for the bath specifically in this case will be 16 cm.

Prepared pipes should be connected to each other using self-tapping screws.

It is necessary to make a hole in the ceiling slab, the diameter of which will be 16 cm. Next, it is necessary to remove the soft roof and thermal insulation from the roof surface 15 cm from the hole made.

The section of the pipe that will be outside is wrapped with basalt wool. The layer should be approximately 16 cm. You should also additionally wrap the cotton wool with an asbestos cord. Then a pipe with a diameter of 20 cm is connected, which is fixed and carefully smeared with bituminous mastic. An asbestos cord is laid in the gap between the two pipes. This is necessary to protect from rain.

This is how you can independently design and install stainless chimneys for a bath. This is a very affordable solution.

Features for different types of ovens

Modern equipment for baths is equipped with brick smoke exhaust systems.

Pipes made of ordinary or stainless steel are also used. Each material has advantages and disadvantages, and there are also certain nuances in the installation.

for saunas for stoves metal

After the installation of the furnace is completed, you can immediately begin to equip the chimney. The first step is to attach several expansion supports to the pipe. Well, if these are pipes made of asbestos or "Sandwich". The latter can withstand significantly higher temperatures, unlike other analogues. However, you should not allow direct flame exposure to such a pipe. That is why a steel pipe is first mounted, and then, after the first bend, there is a sandwich or an asbestos-cement structure.

Now it remains only to organize the protection of the upper part from the rain. A stub might work for this. From below, another pipe is mounted on the pipe, which will then facilitate the process of draining condensate and cleaning.

If the oven is brick

This chimney for a bath is easy to build with your own hands. When a row of masonry blocks the stove, the construction of the chimney system begins.

So, on the 21st row of brickwork, it is necessary to form two channels. Then they will be merged. Further - on the right, the space above the core should be blocked. The gap between the core and the masonry will be 2-3 cm. Any voids are filled with mineral wool insulation. With 22 rows of masonry, the opening will already be closed, and after that you can start laying and shifting the channels to the middle. So that this overlap does not crack in the future, it is advisable to lay another row of masonry above the core of the furnace.

For those who managed to build a brick oven, making a chimney will not be difficult. The main thing is that there are no cracks. Also, the norm for the cross section of the pipe should not be exceeded. Otherwise, the gases will quickly cool.

How to make a chimney for a bath through the ceiling

Often built from pine. This wood sometimes overheats. The process of smoke passage must be created with the utmost care. The wall must be protected by any non-combustible materials. You can slash steel sheets, mineral wool or brickwork is also suitable.

Another effective way of protection is a special ceiling-passage assembly.

To do this, cut holes in the ceiling where this very box will be installed. After this operation, a pipe is pulled through the knot. It, in turn, must be insulated on each side.

At the next stage, the pipe is erected above the roof. Its height must be at least 1.5 m. When it passes through the roof covering, it is necessary to apply a sealing cover. With this operation, it is possible to hermetically connect the chimney pipes.

In order to get good traction and a long service life, you need to clean the pipe from accumulated soot and debris once every six months. And then the bath will please its owner for a very long time.

Bath pipes

The chimney plays a very important role in creating a comfortable microclimate. The choice of pipe material for it is also important. The pipe is not only a chimney system, but safety in case of fire, as well as health. Let's find out which chimneys are best for a bath.

The pipe in the steam room can be made from a variety of materials. However, it is best to use stainless steel for this. This material has a lot of important characteristics, such as resistance to high temperatures, light weight, ease of use, good traction, resistance to aggressive environments. The best chimney for a bath is made of stainless steel.

Asbestos cement pipes are not very desirable. They do not comply with fire safety standards.

When exposed to high temperatures, a product made of this material may collapse and a fire will occur, which is very dangerous in a steam room where the walls are made of wood. This is a rather dubious economy.

Ceramics is reliability and durability. Such chimneys are able to withstand high temperatures up to 600 degrees. But for the bath, these pipes are also poorly suited. It's all due to the weight. They are definitely not suitable for wooden structures.

Sandwich

This is the modern version. Chimneys for a wood-burning bath are assembled from it.

This product consists of two pipes. Non-combustible insulation is provided between them. Modern materials are used as it, such as basalt or ceramic wool, vermiculite. The smaller pipe acts as a chimney. The big one is the outer casing. Its task is to keep the insulation dry. The casing can be made of galvanized or stainless steel.

These are the types and everyone can make such a design with their own hands.
