We screw the toilet. Attaching the toilet to the floor. Bathroom with vertical outlet

Equipping a modern home with a toilet room is a traditional touch of any project. In turn, installing a toilet in a toilet is also a long-established procedure. Installation is usually performed by default during residential construction.

We will tell you how to fix the toilet to the floor. Together with you, we will analyze which method of fixing plumbing fixtures is best to use if you suddenly have to change the device during operation. Taking into account our advice, you can quickly and easily complete the work without involving a plumber.

A toilet of any configuration, like a plumbing fixture in general, is installed in accordance with the installation instructions. The initial installation of these plumbing fixtures (during the housing construction stage) is usually carried out by professional performers.

But in the future, already established property owners often reconstruct the toilet, in particular, change the toilet. And they do it themselves in order to save on installation services.

Users often change equipment to suit personal preferences. Some of them do not know all the nuances of installation and fastening methods.

Installation of a toilet with subsequent fastening to the floor of the toilet room. The initial installation of such plumbing fixtures is usually carried out by professional plumbers

Self-reinstallation is not prohibited and is encouraged. However, such intentions of the owner must at least be accompanied by knowledge of methods for attaching the toilet to the floor. It would seem like a trivial detail of the installation procedure, but when they want to see a high-quality, reliable installation as a result, even the smallest details are important.

The nuances of installing toilets are directly related to the one chosen for installation. In everyday life, floor-mounted toilets are most often used. At the same time, most of the mounted devices have a compact product configuration.

How to fix a compact and any other toilet to the floor of the toilet room, doing the installation yourself?

Compact toilet model, mounted according to the scheme of attachment to the floor. In this case, the installation was done professionally. The high quality of installation and fastening of plumbing fixtures to the floor is clearly demonstrated

Self-taught craftsmen should strive for approximately this result.

Analysis of fastening methods

Construction practice indicates at least three methods of attaching toilets to the floor surface:

  • standard installation kit;
  • by using special adhesives;
  • by installation on cement mortar.

The standard installation kit (dowel-screw) is usually recommended for use as long as it is installed on an extremely flat floor surface.

The method, from the point of view of reliability and stability of the structure, is considered acceptable, but does not completely satisfy in all cases. We usually apply the “standard” to compact models that have light weight and modest dimensions.

Another method of attaching the toilet to the floor is glue mounting, which provides a high level of joint strength. But in this case, quick dismantling of the product if necessary is excluded. Therefore, the adhesive installation method is used where installation involves long-term use of plumbing fixtures without the prospect of replacing them.

The procedure for installing and fastening the toilet to the floor by placing the sole of the device on glue. For gluing, as a rule, special adhesive pastes and solutions are used

Epoxy resin is often used as an adhesive. This glue is distinguished by high characteristics in terms of reliability and strength of fastening.

Cement mortar is often considered as an alternative to the standard and adhesive methods. In fact, this method is not much different from “planting with glue”, since cement contains an adhesive component. Meanwhile, connecting the toilet to the floor with cement mortar shows a lower degree of strength compared to special-purpose adhesives.

The choice of fastening method largely depends on the type of base on which the installation is being made. You will learn how to install from the article, which covers this issue in detail.

Technology for attaching the toilet to the floor

When turning to one or another method of attaching a home appliance to the floor, the master will need a certain set of tools.

Usually, work is carried out without much difficulty when you have at hand:

  • construction hammer drill (plus a set of drills of different diameters);
  • hand drill (plus drills of different diameters for ceramics);
  • manual mechanical press (pistol-push);
  • screwdrivers, bench wrenches, pliers, hammer;
  • tape measure, pencil, core, rubber spatulas (wide, narrow);
  • sandpaper (coarse, fine).

Possible materials for plumbing installation:

  • plastic dowels (d=8-12 mm, 2-4 pcs.);
  • metal screws (d=6-8 mm, 2-4 pcs.);
  • gaskets for the screw head (2-4 pcs.);
  • glue (liquid nails, silicone, epoxy);
  • cement, quarry sand (at a ratio of 1:2);
  • wooden board (thickness 20-25 mm);
  • sheet rubber (thickness 10-15 mm).

Installing a toilet and attaching this type of plumbing to the floor with standard fasteners involves drilling holes for dowels. If the configuration of the plumbing fixture is made for fastening with two screws (screws), you need to drill two holes. In another case, respectively, four.

One of the methods for attaching a toilet to the floor is to attach the device to screws (bolts, screws). This mounting option is used in practice more often than others. Typically, the lion's share of all manufactured toilets are equipped with just such fasteners

Some difficulties accompany the drilling process when. Careless action, lack of experience, ignorance of the technology for drilling holes in ceramic tiles are the main reasons for installation failures. You need to drill ceramics with a special drill, observing the rule of gentle pressure and low drill speed.

Installation followed by fastening with cement mortar also has its own characteristics. Here, an important factor that determines the quality of the connection is the composition of the solution. Therefore, it is recommended to adhere as closely as possible to the established ratio of 1:2 (M200), where the first number is the amount of cement, the second is the amount of quarry sand.

Modern technology for fastening toilet bowls at home. All elements of the toilet are fastened to a special metal frame - an installation disguised in the wall

True, the “installation” is a metal structure and provides for a slightly different form of installation – suspended. That is, the plumbing fixtures are not installed with emphasis on the floor of the toilet room, but remain suspended after installation.

Plumbing fixtures are made from strong but fragile materials. Therefore, when securing a porcelain or earthenware appliance with screws (bolts), it is not recommended to use maximum force to tighten it. Be sure to use soft gaskets (silicone, rubber, plastic), placing them under the screw heads.

Attach the toilet to the metal screws carefully, using moderate force. It is strongly recommended to use spacers made of soft material under the screw heads.

If glue is used for fastening, the quality of cleaning and degreasing of the bonded surfaces is of great importance in achieving joint strength.

When using epoxy resin, it is necessary to strictly observe the ratio of resin and solvent during the preparation of the adhesive mass. The glue must be applied evenly to the surface, preventing the formation of air cushions.

When installing the device “on taffeta”, it is advisable to choose strong wood as the material. You can use multi-layer plywood, but in any case you should provide high-quality waterproofing for the taffeta. A humid environment dramatically reduces the durability of any wood.

Conclusions and useful video on the topic

One of the options for attaching a plumbing fixture to the floor is discussed in the following video:

Which method of installing toilets is the best is up to the owner of the property to decide where the plumbing is to be installed and secured.

However, when choosing a technique, it is recommended to take into account the possible loads on the toilet, the material of the device (faience, porcelain), as well as the design features of the toilet room. A careful approach to business will definitely help you achieve the desired result.

Modern technologies for the manufacture of plumbing fixtures make it possible to fill the building materials market with a variety of toilet models.

Sanitary fixtures differ in modifications of the flush tanks, materials of manufacture (porcelain, earthenware), fastening devices, location of the water supply and drain outlet. In most cases, bathrooms and toilet rooms are tiled.

Walls and floors are covered with tiles. How to fix a toilet on a tiled floor so that it stands firmly on its base? In this article we will give the reader information on how best to do this.

Preparatory work before installing the toilet

Find a comfortable toilet pipe length

The drain sink is installed when the work on tiling the walls and floors with ceramic tiles is completed.

If you install the plumbing first, and then start installing the ceramic floor covering, you will have to deal with rather complex cutting in the slabs to contour the base of the pedestal of the plumbing fixture.

This will cause a risk of damage to the cladding if the selection of cut tiles is unsuccessful.

When covering walls and floors with ceramic tiles, you need to achieve a convenient length for the protrusion of the water pipe from the wall.

The outlet of the water pipe must be such that a shut-off valve can be installed.

The sewer drain can protrude from both the wall and the floor. The sewer socket must provide a tight connection with the corrugation.

Required tools and materials

To successfully complete the task, you should have patience and prepare the following set of tools:

  • perforator, drill;
  • marker;
  • drills for glass and ceramics;
  • screwdrivers;
  • sealant;
  • spanners;
  • adjustable wrench and sockets with collar;
  • dowels with self-tapping screws;
  • pliers;
  • corrugated pipe;
  • tap;
  • core;
  • grinder with abrasive wheel;
  • connecting hose.

Installing a toilet on a tiled floor

Toilet installation

Installing a toilet on a tiled floor can be done in different ways, depending on the position of the mounting holes in the sink pedestal.

There are three options for attaching a plumbing fixture to a ceramic floor covering:

Most drain sink models are made with mounting holes for vertical fasteners. Installation of the sink is carried out in several stages:

Before installing the toilet, check the horizontal position of the installation site. If no deviations are identified, then the base of the pedestal and the tiles along the contour of the sink support are not cleaned.

Installing a toilet with side mounting holes is somewhat different from installing a sink with vertical fasteners.

The difference is that the mounting parts are hidden under the pedestal of the device.

Install this model of the device as follows:

This installation method is used if the base of the floor is equipped with a heating system. There is a risk of damage to heating equipment when drilling mounting holes. For more information about the work, watch this video:

In this case, cleaning the base of the pedestal and the surface of the ceramic tiles along the contour of the toilet support is mandatory. This is done to increase the adhesion of the bonded surfaces.

Press the toilet firmly to the floor

Glue the toilet to the tiled surface with liquid nails. The surfaces are covered with glue, then they are pressed against each other.

The toilet is removed from the installation site and placed on its side. Maintain the time specified in the instructions. Then set the sink in place and press it to the floor.

The remaining installation work is performed in the same way as in previous cases.

You can begin installing a toilet on a tiled floor yourself only if you have the skills and experience in this type of work.

Whether in a new apartment or an old one, finishing the bathroom is often done when the plumbing fixtures are either not yet there, or they are being dismantled in order to be replaced with new ones. In an empty room, it is naturally easier to lay tiles on the walls and floor, since nothing is in the way.

In addition, existing plumbing fixtures - bathtub, toilet, washbasin - can simply be damaged during finishing work. If laying tiles on the floor is done with the toilet standing, then imagine how difficult it is to cut ceramic floor tiles, which are much thicker than wall tiles, in order to replicate the configuration of the toilet.

We will try to tell you how to install a toilet on tiles in our article.

In order to properly place the toilet on the tiles and connect it to the sewer and water supply system, you will need the following tools and materials:

  • toilet;
  • fan pipe or corrugation;
  • flexible hose supplying cold water to the toilet;
  • ball valve for cold pipeline;
  • sealing material for winding threaded connections;
  • silicone sealant;

  • drills for concrete and ceramic tiles.

The tools you need to stock up on are:

  • drill or hammer drill;
  • adjustable wrench;
  • several screwdrivers;
  • rubber spatula;
  • pencil;
  • hammer;
  • core

Installing a toilet on tiles can be done in different ways, depending on the type of toilet.

There is a closed mount and an open one. With the open type of fastening, the fastening bolts are located on the protruding part of the toilet base. The closed fastening system is located inside the toilet base.

We fix the toilet using an open method

This method requires minimal effort and less time, but is inferior to the second method (closed) in terms of aesthetics.

The toilet is installed in its intended permanent location and marks are made on the tiles with a pencil in the holes intended for fastening.

It is important that the pencil is strictly vertical, otherwise a shift in the mark may result in you drilling holes that will not fit the mounting bolts.

In addition to markings for fastening, you need to trace the outline of the toilet base on the tiles.

After this, the toilet is moved to the side and holes are drilled in the places where the pencil marks are:

  • First, the glaze on the tile is scratched with a core so that the drill does not slip on the tile.
  • The first thing to use is a glass drill bit to go through the tiles.
  • Afterwards, a concrete drill is inserted into a drill or hammer drill and a hole of the required depth is drilled, depending on the size of the purchased dowels.

The finished hole must be cleaned of dust and filled with silicone sealant, which in this case acts as a waterproofing, preventing moisture from entering under the base of the toilet. Dowels are inserted into the drilled holes filled with sealant.

Before installing the toilet on tiles, A strip of sealant is applied along the previously outlined contour of the toilet, which will not allow water to penetrate under the base of the toilet.

Fastening elements - bolts, bushings or screws - are inserted into the mounting holes and tightened to the desired position. The mounting points are covered with plugs to give the toilet an aesthetic appearance and to protect the mounting bolts from moisture.

Excess silicone, which will inevitably come out under the weight of the toilet, must be removed using a rubber spatula or other available means.

Installing an internally mounted toilet

Before fixing the toilet to the tile, you must first make outlet holes to connect it to the sewerage system and to the water pipe.

The holes should be located as close as possible to the toilet being installed.

In the same way as when installing a toilet with an open mounting method, the outline of the base of the toilet is outlined on the floor tiles, and the marks of the mounting holes in the toilet are transferred to the floor.

The hidden fastening is placed on the floor, and marks are made for drilling holes, which are drilled in the same way as the previous method. The mount is installed on the floor and secured firmly with bolts. After this, the toilet bowl is installed empty onto the mount and secured through the side holes with bolts with the mount installed inside.

But there are situations when the floor cannot be drilled, since a heated floor system is installed under the tiles.

In this case, the question arises of how to glue the toilet to the tile. You can use:

  • liquid nails,
  • silicone glue,
  • epoxy resin with hardener.

In all cases, preparation of the tiles and the bottom plane of the toilet is required. The tiles and toilet are treated with sandpaper to provide roughness for better adhesion of the adhesive to the surfaces of the floor and toilet.

Connecting the toilet to the sewer system

A corrugated plastic pipe is used to connect the toilet to the sewer.

The corrugation allows you to change:

  • the distance from the toilet itself to the entrance to the sewer riser,
  • the angle of inclination depending on where the riser outlet is located - in the wall or in the floor.

Having a rubber membrane inside, the corrugation does not stick to the toilet outlet, it is tightly and hermetically connected to the toilet outlet, precisely through the membrane. The corrugation is also inserted into the sewer riser without the use of glue, using the existing special rim, which does not allow unpleasant odors and drainage to penetrate into the room.

After the toilet has been connected to the sewer system, you need to mount the toilet cistern to begin connecting cold water.

Plastic or silicone washers should be placed on metal bolts to prevent them from coming into contact with the faience of the toilet bowl.

Connection to water supply

Toilets have different connection systems to the water pipe:

  • external connection,
  • closed connection.

Despite the different connection methods, all joints must be sealed and prevent leaks.

With a hidden connection system, a copper tube or flexible water hose made of various materials can be used. If a copper tube is included with the toilet, then a flexible hose will have to be purchased separately.

The water pipe suitable for the toilet cistern requires special attention. It can be either with external or internal thread. If the thread is internal, then you will need to install an additional adapter and use a sealing winding.

After the connection is made, the operation of the drain tank and the possibility of leaks are checked. If everything works fine, then tighten the fastening bolts all the way and install the toilet lid.

Usually, fixing the toilet to the floor is carried out at the stage of housing construction and is carried out by professionals. However, during operation, sometimes there is a need to replace equipment, and this is where owners sometimes find themselves at a dead end.

Some people immediately turn to a company that provides the relevant services, but some home craftsmen decide to save money and make the change themselves. There are no big difficulties in this, and the installation methods are quite accessible even for people who do not have much experience in repair work.

In this article we will talk about different ways to attach a toilet to the floor, as well as what tools and materials you will need for this.

There are several different ways to attach a toilet to the floor.

The most popular include:

  • fit on the installation kit (dowels);
  • use of various adhesives;
  • installation on cement mortar;
  • taffeta fixation;
  • side mount.

The choice, first of all, depends on the quality of the floor in the toilet or bathroom and on the material of its finishing coating, since the same method of fastening is not relevant for all surfaces. Features and nuances of different installation options depend on the design and type of discharge into the sewer.

Toilet bowls of almost all modifications come with a standard installation kit (dowel-screw). It is suitable for mounting equipment, but requires the compact to be placed on an absolutely flat surface that does not have errors or slopes.

Plumbing fixtures attached to the floor in this way have good structural stability and do not wobble even during intensive use. However, the method is not suitable for all models and is usually applied to toilets of small size and light weight.

Some plumbing fixtures begin to work worse after prolonged use. A common problem with toilets is loose fixation. Because of this, it is inconvenient to use a wobbly device. You can secure the toilet so that it does not wobble with your own hands if you have some skills in handling tools. There are several ways to do this.

Features of plumbing installation

Plumbing fixtures are installed based on the installation instructions supplied with them. During construction or major renovations, this work is performed by professional plumbers. Later, after moving in, many residents independently make their own adjustments to the bathroom design and change the appliance to another one.

To perform such work efficiently, it is important to know what methods of securing the device to the flooring exist and how to perform them correctly. Installation features are directly related to the configuration of the plumbing. Typically, domestic bathrooms use compact floor-mounted models. The mounting of such plumbing fixtures varies.

Reasons for a loose toilet

Before fixing the device to the flooring surface, it is important to determine the reason for the loosening of the plumbing fixtures. There are usually several of them, but they come down to three main ones:

  • uneven floor coverings;
  • plumbing installed with errors;
  • defects and irregularities on the bottom surface of the bowl.

Bathroom floors are usually covered with a concrete base, but there are also wood options. Due to the loss of tightness of the fastening screws during operation, a toilet mounted on a wooden surface begins to wobble. Sometimes cracks form where the screws are attached to the boards. This is what most often causes loss of stability.

Sometimes the surface of the concrete screed is poured in violation. This leads to deformation and differences in floor height. This also makes the toilet “walk”. In some cases, the cause of unreliable fastening is non-compliance with the toilet installation technology.

Fastening plumbing fixtures to a wooden floor

If the bathroom floor is made of wooden planks, the loose plumbing fixture is not fixed back in its original location. It is correct to move the device slightly to the side and screw it in a new place. In this case, it is recommended to drill holes for reliable fixation, the location of which coincides with the mounting holes and secure with screws.

There is no need to try to tighten loose screws in the same place if the floor is made of planks. This will lead to cracking of the device itself. To make installation easier, it is better to make the supply line to the sewerage system from the toilet flexible.

Securing the toilet to a concrete floor

It is much more difficult to fix the problem if the flooring has a concrete base. In old buildings from the USSR, the devices were installed on concrete floors with embedded boards. In this case, to improve fastening, perform the following steps:

  1. They shut down the system.
  2. Disconnect the sewer drain pipe.
  3. Remove the bolts securing the plumbing fixtures to the floor.

Important!

Further work is carried out carefully so as not to damage the fragile material of the old toilet.

To eliminate the damage, the old backing board is removed and new lumber of considerable thickness is laid in its place. You can simply clear this place and concrete it.

After the concrete has hardened, plumbing installation is carried out in the following order:

  1. Having placed the toilet in the desired area, mark the points where it will be attached.
  2. The plumbing fixtures are removed and holes are made in the marked area using a hammer drill.
  3. The device is secured with bolts.
  4. Reinstall the drain tank.
  5. The plumbing is connected to the sewer pipes using a corrugated line.

Installation on ceramic tiles

In modern apartments, the floor in the bathroom is usually made of tiles. Then the plumbing has a backlash when the tiles are not level and have differences. This type of defect is the most difficult to eliminate. After all, in order to get rid of the wobbling of the plumbing fixture, you must first eliminate the unevenness of the floor. It is impossible to do this without dismantling the tiles.

Therefore, to begin with, the problem is eliminated by placing a plastic gasket under the base of the plumbing fixture. Such devices are sold in hardware stores and are quite inexpensive. If this option does not bring the desired result and the instability continues, dismantle the tiles and lay the covering again.

Important!

Silicone sealant is sometimes used as a gasket. They coat the area of the tiled floor where the device should be located. When the material is completely dry, install it. This method helps to temporarily solve the problem of a wobbly device.

How to attach a toilet to the floor

To do the job efficiently, the master will need the following tools:

  • hammer drill for construction work with several drills of various sizes;
  • a hand drill along with a set of drills of different diameters for ceramic tiles;
  • sandpaper with different grain sizes;
  • rubber spatulas of different sizes;
  • mechanical hand press;
  • screwdrivers, bench wrenches and other tools.

Additionally you will need the following materials:

  • plastic dowels of different diameters;
  • metal screws or screws;
  • several spacers for screws;
  • construction adhesive;
  • cement and sand;
  • rubber sheet 15 mm thick;
  • boards 25 mm thick.

Standard toilet fastening involves drilling holes in the floor for dowels. Then make 4 holes. If the device is mounted with screws, then only 2 holes need to be made. Difficulties are caused by drilling openings when the floor is covered with ceramic tiles. Due to awkward movement or incorrect selection of tools, the tiles easily crack.

Important!

It is necessary to drill ceramics with a drill designed for this purpose, setting the rotation speed of the device to low. During operation, the pressure on the tool should be light.

When fixing the device to cement mortar, it is important to properly prepare the working mixture so that the connection is of high quality. To do this, take 1 part of M200 cement and add 2 parts of sand.

Securing the toilet with screws

To secure the toilet to the toilet floor in the standard way with screws, perform the following steps sequentially:

  1. The exact position of the sole is determined on the toilet floor.
  2. Marks are placed in the center of the holes.
  3. Using a special tile drill, make recesses the size of which corresponds to the thickness of the tile.
  4. Then they take a concrete drill and bring the excavations to a depth of 70 mm.
  5. Insert dowels into the resulting recesses.
  6. The toilet is placed in the required place so as to align the mounting holes of the plumbing with similar ones in the floor.
  7. Connect the device to the sewer with a corrugated pipe.
  8. Secure the plumbing fixtures to the floor with screws from the mounting kit.

Having completed this work, you need to additionally ensure the tightness of the connection of the corrugated pipe with the sewer inlet and the toilet pipe. To do this, use any sealant. Then, if there is one, the gap between the toilet sole and the floor is cosmetically sealed.
