The nominal resistance value limits the flow of electrons through the conductor. Exceeding the normal current causes more heating of the core. The permissible current flowing through the conductor for a long time does not lead to changes in electrical parameters due to heating. The permissible current is limited not only by the nominal cross-section. The mutual inductive influence of conductors laid together reduces the permissible current in accordance with the data in the table:

The table can be used by selecting the section of the PGV wire required for installation or repair. We find out in advance the maximum estimated power consumption for the installed network or site. Using the formula I \u003d P / U, dividing the power value by the voltage, we calculate the maximum current. Comparing the obtained value with the tabular data, we select the required section.
The electrical protection of the conductor is provided by a sufficiently thick layer of high-quality insulation. The thickness of the plastic depends on the nominal cross-section of the conductor, the standard values \u200b\u200bare given:

High-quality insulation must provide a resistance of 5 mΩ per kilometer section at an air temperature of 20 ° C. Mechanical properties provide:
- Adhesion of PVC to copper and unhindered removal of plastic;
- Smooth, dense plastic surface without pores, dents, cracks;
- Stretching before destruction occurs - 150%;
- The bending radius is made from five diameters of the insulated conductor.
Temperature characteristics:
- Operation is normal in the range, ° С: -40 ÷ +65;
- Working long-term heating, up to ° С: +70;
- Short-term, up to 8 hours, heating is allowed, ° С: +80;
- Efficiency is maintained when overheating by short-circuit current up to 4 seconds, ° С: +160;
- Installation, without special measures for heating the work area, is prohibited in frost above -15 ° С;
- Retains resistance to air moisture up to 98% with a temperature not exceeding, ° С: +35.
Compliance with the conditions of normal operation will ensure the life of the PGV unit for more than 15 years.
Scope, operation
The parameters of the PGV wire correspond to the standard. This allows it to be used as an installation in fixed networks. Insulation properties, strength and a huge temperature range allow for open and hidden installation. The open method will require the organization of a minimum protection with a cable duct or corrugated hose. Under plaster, in building voids, it can be installed without additional protection. Flexibility will fully manifest itself positively when passing a laying route with numerous turns of channels and gutters, pipes and cable ducts.
For inputs to objects, switching on sockets, it is better to use a hard wire, but the PGV wire is good when connecting devices and equipment not fixed permanently. It is in great demand when laying a lighting network. At the points of connection of lighting fixtures, a fracture of a rigid conductor often occurs.
The use of a soft conductor when connecting under the terminal screw, according to the PUE, requires additional trouble. The stripped ends should be half-tapered or crimped with special tips to prevent fluffing of fine wires.
The use of a wire mainly determines the type of manufacture for fire safety:
Execution type | Designation | Advantageous areas of application |
---|---|---|
Flame retardant with a single gasket with insulation and sheath made of PVC compound | No designation | Laying single lines and performing power circuits for pantographs located in rooms |
Insulation and sheath made of PVC compound of low fire hazard with low smoke and gas emission | ng-ls | Group laying of lines in the premises of internal (closed) electrical installations. For electrical wiring in residential and public buildings |
Reduced smoke and gas emission, with insulation and sheath made of halogen-free polymer compositions | ng-HF | Lines and wiring for group and single laying in office premises equipped with computer and microprocessor equipment, entertainment complexes and sports facilities |
Insulation and sheath made of PVC compound of low fire hazard with reduced smoke and gas emission and low toxicity of combustion products | ng-LSLTx | For electrical wiring in public buildings, in buildings of preschool educational institutions, specialized homes for the elderly and disabled, hospitals and boarding schools |
Reduced smoke and gas emission, with insulation and sheath made of halogen-free polymer compositions, with low toxicity of combustion products | ng-HFLTx |
A relatively small increase in the purchase cost of modified wire brands will pay off by guaranteeing the safety of people.
The disadvantage in the form of a single-core design is eliminated by using the KGV installation cable.
Is a single conductor PVC insulated wire. It is used to connect electrical appliances to the network, as well as to organize power and lighting lines in electrical wiring. It differs from PV-1 in greater flexibility, which makes it possible to use it for connecting mobile equipment or for operation in confined spaces.
Marking and design PV-3
Decoding of wire marking:
- "P" - wire;
- "B" - PVC insulation;
- "3" - flexibility class of the conductor.
The core is made of one or more wires, depending on the wire size. Insulation in solid color or with two longitudinal stripes. If the wire is used as a ground wire, the insulation will be colored yellow-green.
Specifications
Wire insulation reliably protects it from moisture, steam and mold. During production, a special component is added to the plastic compound that scares away rats and other rodents. The wire can be used at temperatures up to + 60 ° C in damp rooms, therefore it is used in such rooms as baths, bathrooms, etc.
The product can be used for up to 15 years, and even more. The wire is sold in rolls up to 100 meters long.
The main technical characteristics can be found in the table below:
Current load for certain wire cross-sections:
Application area
Due to its simple design, low cost and a variety of cross-sections, PV-3 wire is used almost everywhere. In production and storage facilities, residential buildings and commercial buildings.
PV-3 and PGV: what's the difference?
Currently, the wire marking has been changed from PV-3 to PUGV. In the past, GOST 6323-79 was in force in Russia, but now GOST R 53768-2010, as well as TU 16-705.501-2010, have been introduced. According to the new standards, the wire became known as PGV, and its flexibility class increased to 5.
For the organization of electrical wiring, which is located inside or outside industrial premises, as well as for connecting various electrical equipment, electrical appliances, electromechanisms, etc. use the installation wire. It is used most often in the case of a stationary installation, that is, when the equipment is installed in its permanent place. There are several brands of these cables that are designed to work in different conditions.
When installing an AC electrical network with a rated voltage of 450 / 750V and a frequency of no more than 400Hz or a DC with a voltage of not more than 1000V, the electrical cables and wires used during installation must comply with GOST 31947-2012.
Marking of installation wires and cables
According to GOST, the marking of such electrical products is deciphered as follows:
- The first two letters determine the type: wire (Pu) or cable (Ku);
- The third letter represents flexibility. The D symbol indicates that the product has increased flexibility. If you do not plan to bend the conductor during the installation process, then you can choose a brand without the letter G;
- The fourth character identifies the insulation material. If the protection is made of polyvinyl chloride plasticate, then the marking contains the symbol B, if polymeric materials, then the symbol P.
- The fifth symbol characterizes the degree of fire hazard. For example, if the letter is absent, then the conductive element does not support combustion in the case of a single gasket. If the designation is "ng (A, B, C, D) - LS", then it does not support combustion during group laying (A, B, C and D denote categories), if the marking is "ng (A, B, C, D) - LSLTx ”, then when laying in a group, the cable not only does not support combustion, but additionally has a reduced gas and smoke emission. In addition, conductors marked with this marking do not emit toxic substances into the environment at elevated temperatures.
Also, the marking includes the following characteristics:
- Climatic version is written with a hyphen from the brand (determined according to GOST 15150);
- The number and nominal cross-section of the veins (written through the multiplication sign). If there is a ground wire in the cable, then after the "+" symbol, the symbols "PE" are added, if it is zero, then the symbol "N" is added. Next are their characteristics;
- At the end of the marking, technical conditions for the operation of products are indicated (determined in accordance with GOST 15150).
PUGV design (analogue of PV-3)
According to GOST, for the PUGV marking, the decoding is performed as follows: an installation wire of increased flexibility with insulation from PVC compound. It can be laid in trays, troughs, ducts and other places where bending of conductors is necessary.
PUGV inside have one conductive core, which is made of twisted annealed copper wires. For different diameters of conductor cross-sections, a minimum number of wires and their thickness are provided.
According to the standard, for conductors with increased flexibility, the conductors must comply with class 5.
Decoding of the cable with pugv marking - 1x4. The numbers at the end of the name indicate that the product has one core 4 mm in diameter.
For isolation, the following requirements are imposed:
- must cover the core tightly enough;
- when removing it, it must be freely removed without damaging the conductors;
- the protective coating should not have any damage: cracks, dents or thickenings;
- the shell should be homogeneous, free of foreign impurities and free from pores.
Technical characteristics of wire PUGV
According to GOST, installation cables can be used in the temperature range from -40 ° C to + 65 ° C. Also, they should not lose their performance in rooms with high humidity (up to 98%) and temperatures up to + 35 ° C. Long-term heating of the product to a temperature of + 70 ° C is allowed.
The minimum service life for this brand is at least 15 years, although some manufacturers guarantee a longer period - up to 20 years or more.
Technical characteristics of ПУГВВ
When laying electrical networks, a ПУГВВ wire can be used. The insulation and the conductive part in it are made of the same materials as in the PUGV, only it additionally has a sheath, which is made of PVC compound with filling the space inside the conductor, can have from one to four cores.
This type is used when installing electrical wiring in the voids of various building structures, in concrete, as well as under plaster, drywall, etc. It can be used when installing electrical wiring located on the surface of walls and ceilings.
Interesting. The color of PVC compound in the case of a single-core version can be any. If the wire is stranded, then different colors of insulation are used for each core.
For a two-core, white and blue are most often used, for a three-core - white, blue and yellow-green.
Yellow-green is usually sent to the ground, blue - to zero, white (or another color) to the phase.

Storage and gasket features
The shelf life of electrical products depends on the conditions in which the cable is located. So, in an open area, the period should not exceed 2 years, under a canopy - 5 years, indoors - 10 years.
Wires PGV, PuGVV, PuV, PuGVng (V) -LS represent a subgroup of installation wires widely used for the installation of electrical equipment. Actually, a good idea of \u200b\u200bthe purpose of this type of cable and wire products is given by the decoding of the abbreviation in the names: the general part (Pu) stands for "" (that is, the often used expression "PGV cable" is not entirely correct), the letter "G" appears in the name wires with flexible current-carrying conductor, the letter "B" indicates the presence of insulation made of polyvinyl chloride plastic; finally, the marking and LS (from the English "low smoke") means that it does not spread combustion and has a reduced smoke and gas emission.
The wires of this group comply with the requirements of GOST 31947-2012, the conductors are made of annealed copper wire (class 1, 2 or 5 according to GOST 22483).
PuV - single-core wire with a copper core, PVC-compound insulation, without sheath. Designed for laying in steel pipes, boxes, on trays for mounting electrical circuits.
PUGV - single-core wire with a flexible copper core, PVC-insulated, without sheath. Designed for laying in steel pipes, ducts, on trays for mounting electrical circuits, where increased flexibility in laying and installation is required.
PuGVV is a single-core wire with a flexible copper core, with insulation and sheath made of PVC compound. Designed for wiring electrical circuits where increased flexibility in wiring and installation is required.
PuGVng (V) - LS-single-core wire, with a flexible copper conductor, with PVC insulation of low fire hazard, without sheath. The wire has low smoke and gas emission, does not spread combustion.
The PGV wire is a power conductor, the cores of which are made of copper. PVC compound is used as an insulating compound. This cable lacks a sheath. Produced in accordance with GOST R 53768-2010. The veins are assembled from tinned copper wires (rods). The number of rods is 7 or more. Operation is carried out in closed rooms for stationary units. In the absence of direct exposure to solar radiation, installation under awnings is allowed. Work in conditions of atmospheric precipitation is not allowed. With a closed installation method, installation work can be carried out under layers of plaster, in brick and concrete masonry.
Decoding
The PGV cable is deciphered as follows:
- P is the common name for cable conductors, then a wire.
- y - a product of the installation type used in the wiring of conductor lines.
- Г - index of flexibility of the wire. This marking refers to conductors of a multicore design as opposed to, for example, cords.
- B - PVC is used as insulation.
Thus, this product is a solid conductor. Current-carrying elements are made of copper wires, twisted together. No sheath, PVC insulation.
The following numbers indicate the cross-sectional area of \u200b\u200bthe wire in mm 2. For example, PGV-4. The next letter index characterizes the color marking of the insulation (B - white, K - red, etc.). This condition is discussed when placing an order for a product based on information on the further use of wiring products.
Features and Benefits
The PGV power wire meets the requirements of numerous international standards based on its design, technical and technological parameters. Due to the great flexibility of the product, it is possible to lay the wire in a box, various pipes, etc.
There is no risk of fire with a single installation method. The service life is over 20 years. The duration is calculated from the moment the product is released. In this connection, NTD has high requirements for various cable characteristics.
Information about the manufacturer, as well as the marking of the product, is stamped or embossed on the surface of the insulation. The designation should not be interrupted, possibly additionally several designations, the distance between which should not exceed 500 mm. The above information includes length, manufacturing plant, production time, weight and GOST number. Has a corresponding confirmation of technical control in the form of stamping and certification marks.
Wire colors
The installation wire PUGV has a variety of colors. The colored coating is only continuous. Coating is possible in the form of double longitudinal stripes, which are located diametrically. Each stripe has a natural color. Provided that the PGV cable is used as a grounding cable, the insulating coating should be yellow-green. When used as neutral wires, blue is used. Color coding is discussed when placing an order.
In the absence of instructions on the color coding, the manufacturer reserves the right to choose. This is possible when ordering, for example, conductors with mixed and transition colors. However, the content of such items should be less than 10% of the total order.
Application
This type of conductor is used to supply power to stationary electrical units in lighting networks and electrical systems. In addition, for the electrical installation of various electrical devices, apparatus and mechanisms in closed rooms. The magnitude of the alternating voltage is up to 450-750 V with a frequency of up to 0.4 kHz. In networks with a constant voltage of 1 kV.
This conductor complies with the rules and regulations of the following international standards for structural and technical and technological characteristics: IEC 60227-1: 2007, IEC 60227-3: 1997, IEC 60227-4: 1997.
The products are used for installation in electrical systems with a requirement for increased flexibility in the installation process. Laying is possible in boxes, pipes, etc.
Wire composition
- The cores are made of tinned copper wires in accordance with GOST 22483-77.
- The insulation is made of colored PVC plastic.
