Do-it-yourself folding table: drawings, design features and recommendations. Do-it-yourself coffee table - a creative design for decorating a home interior Do-it-yourself coffee table

A do-it-yourself table may well be made even by a home craftsman who does not have any accumulated experience in the carpentry craft. Of course, this will become possible if the design of the table is simple enough and understandable.

For example, it is not always possible to find a suitable ready-made model of a table for a kitchen that is too small in size. Buying custom-made furniture made of solid wood is quite expensive. Therefore, sometimes you have to take up the tools and design your own "work" yourself, starting from the specific dimensions of the place where you plan to install the table.

In addition, there is often a desire to show their creativity in a summer residence, especially since there is always a desire to beautifully equip a veranda or a gazebo in a suburban area. If you have the right materials and tools at hand, then you can either sit down to draw up a drawing of the future table, or use a ready-made project, and then get to work.

To figure out which type of table you can build with your own hands, it is advisable to consider several options for this piece of furniture.

Tools for the job

Before starting work, it is necessary to prepare the appropriate tools that will be required to make any wooden table. The amount of material for each model will be different.

You can use the usual, traditional hand tools that carpenters have always worked with. This list usually includes:

  1. A plane with which the wood is leveled and the parts are driven to the desired size.
  2. Chisels for sampling various holes and grooves, removing small protrusions.
  3. Saws of various sizes and modifications with which to cut thick boards or make small cuts.
  4. Pencil, tape measure, corner and ruler.
  5. Screwdriver Set.
  6. Clamps for temporary fixing of glued parts.
  7. Sandpaper for sanding.

Many of the instruments can be replaced with more modern and convenient instruments:

  • The electric jigsaw will do all the work that the various saws mentioned above have previously been used for.

Jigsaw rating
  • The sander will help to make the surfaces smooth and polish them to a shine, eliminating the very tedious procedure of manual sanding.

  • Milling machine with a set of cutters. This device will help round off sharp corners, drill curly grooves for furniture hinges, and if you need and have some experience, you can use it to decorate the table with a relief pattern.
  • will significantly speed up the work, since you will not have to spend several minutes tightening each self-tapping screw. In addition, during certain operations, it is possible to install one of the cutters or conventional drills into it, for example, in order to process an edge or make a perfectly even large or small hole (groove).
  • The building level will help to make the product even and neat, as it will show all possible irregularities and distortions.

To prevent the finished furniture from being "skewed", the assembly is controlled by the level

An easy-to-manufacture table for a summer cottage

Making such a country table is within the power of everyone

Necessary materials

For such a country house, having a tabletop size of 1680 × 850 mm, not too many wooden blanks will be required. You need to prepare the following:

  1. Beam, section - 750 × 100 × 50 mm - 4 pcs. (table legs).
  2. Self-tapping screws, bolts and possibly metal corners.
  3. Joiner's glue.
  4. Board, size:
  • 1680 × 100 × 25 mm - 4 pcs. (longitudinal elements of the frame);
  • 850 × 100 × 25 mm - 2 pcs. (transverse parts of the frame);
  • 1580 × 100 × 25 mm - 2 pcs. (facing boards for side frame elements);
  • 950 × 100 × 25 mm - 17 pcs. (boards for countertops).

All wooden elements must be treated with compounds and have a prepared smooth surface. If it is planned to "darken" the wood, then it is covered with a stain, and for the appearance of a textured pattern, they are carefully passed from above with a grinder. Fine-grained sandpaper will remove the soaked raised parts of the wood grain, and they will become lighter than the indentations.

Mounting a garden table

When all the parts for the frame are prepared, you can proceed to the assembly.

Frame or "box" of the table
  • The first step is the details of the tabletop frame - four longitudinal boards measuring 1680 × 100 × 25 mm and two end boards 850 × 100 × 25 mm, laid out on a large table or on the floor. On the end boards, the layout of the internal and external boards is marked. Using a ruler, based on the drawing, the required distances are measured and marked with a pencil. It is imperative to accurately mark the width of the longitudinal board at the junction with the end board, especially if the connection will take place by a tie-in method.

The connection of elements can be done in different ways:

Connection with a choice of "quarter" and using metal corners

- using a steel angle - this is the easiest and most reliable way;

- the cut-in method is a more complicated method, since it requires exact dimensions not only in the width and length of the connecting elements, but also in the depth of the board;

Several types of tongue-and-groove connections

- "groove-thorn" shown in the second figure a), b), c), d) and e) such a connection is also quite difficult for novice craftsmen who have no experience;

- the connection with dowels is shown in f) - this method also requires perfect accuracy when marking and drilling holes in the parts to be joined.

  • All connections are usually made using glue. The only exception is the butt joint of the parts with a metal corner.
  • The frame must have perfectly adjusted right angles, therefore, after connecting all the elements, it is necessary to carry out control using a building angle and measuring and comparing the length of the diagonals.
  • If the parts are fixed with glue, they must be fixed in clamps and left until it dries completely, otherwise they will not be connected securely.

  • When the glue dries and the frame acquires a certain rigidity, facing boards measuring 1580 × 100 × 25 mm are fixed to the outer longitudinal sides. The place of their attachment also needs to be marked, since there should be a distance along their edges for mounting the legs. Facing boards are also glued and fixed with self-tapping screws, the caps of which should be sunk in the wood by 1.5 ÷ 2.0 mm.

  • The next stage is the transverse sheathing of the table top with 950 × 100 × 25 mm boards. The place of their fastening must also first be marked, starting from the middle of the frame, since they must be installed at a distance of 5 mm from each other. The overhang of the worktop above the frame must be 25 mm on all four sides.
  • Further, each of the boards are fixed in four places to the longitudinal elements of the "box" of the table, and the outer boards are also fixed to the end sides. So that the caps of the self-tapping screws are recessed, for them grooves with a diameter of 8 mm are drilled in the boards to a depth of 2 ÷ 3 mm, then, in the center of these grooves, through holes are drilled with a drill of a smaller diameter (usually 3 mm), into which the self-tapping screws will be screwed. To avoid cracking of the boards during installation work, through holes must be drilled.

  • After that, legs from a bar with a section of 750 × 100 × 50 mm are fixed to the edges of the longitudinal boards, they must exactly coincide with the width of the table top.

The next step is to install the legs
  • The legs can be fixed to the frame with self-tapping screws, but it is better to fix each of them with two bolts, placing them diagonally at the junction. Through holes are drilled for the bolts, and the nuts are tightened on them from the inside of the frame using a wrench.
  • The final stage of manufacturing is the sealing of the caps of the self-tapping screws with a mixture made of carpentry or epoxy glue and sawdust. This homemade putty is used to fill the grooves above the caps and level them well. After the glue dries, the entire worktop, and especially the places covered with glue "plugs", must be well sanded.

  • The table can then be coated with varnish or water-based paint. After waiting for the decorating or protective layer to dry, the product can be installed in a summer cottage, on a veranda or terrace in a recreation area.

If desired, it will be easy to make a bench or a set for a table.

Small folding table for the kitchen

Such a small folding table is perfect for a small kitchen or a very small room.

  1. Its design is designed in such a way that the tabletop cannot fold on its own if the table leg is accidentally hit, so the table is quite safe for installation in a children's room.
  2. The presence of a double-sided roomy bedside table will allow you to store various little things and small toys in it.
  3. The table is equipped with a table top that is large enough for a child, sitting at it, to do their homework.
  4. In addition, there is space on the tabletop for a laptop or books necessary for study.
  5. If necessary, this small table can easily replace an ironing board if you put a soft cloth on its surface.

Considering all of the above, the table can be called multifunctional, despite its very compact size.

For the manufacture of all the parts listed in the table, you will need modern electrical tools that can bring the workpieces to professional perfection.

Find out how to do with photos and descriptions in a special article on our portal.

Installation of a folding table-pedestal

It is worth starting the manufacture of a table with the most important and largest part of it - the table top. Since the table is folding, this element will consist of two parts - stationary and "mobile", that is, one that can be folded down if necessary. When folded, this table may well serve as an ordinary compact cabinet.

IllustrationBrief description of the performed operation

The first step from plywood with a thickness of 25 mm, using a jigsaw or circular saw, it is necessary to cut out blanks for the tabletop, measuring 600 × 600 and 600 × 475 mm.

Further, on the larger panel, marking is carried out - a semicircle is drawn, since the front of the table should be rounded.
In order to achieve the correct shape of a semicircle, you can use a large construction compass, or make it yourself - from a nail, pencil and rope.

Then, along the marked line, the table top is rounded.
This can be done with a jigsaw or circular saw by attaching the appropriate compass attachment to it.

Further, a cutter of the desired configuration is installed on the milling machine, which will make the edges of the tabletop smooth, if desired, even or rounded.

The semicircular part of the panel is processed with a milling cutter, leaving the side even, which will dock with the second part of the tabletop.
Then its edges are processed in the same way.

In the next step, the two processed parts of the tabletop are placed on a flat table at a distance of 5 mm from each other.
Marking is made for the installation of furniture hinges. They must be placed at a distance of 100-120 mm from the edge of the table top.
Furniture hinges can be of different shapes, so they should be laid in the marked place and outlined with a simple pencil.
Then, using a router, special curly grooves are arranged in the plywood, the depth of which should be equal to the thickness of the furniture hinges.
The hinges are fixed into the finished holes with self-tapping screws.

After hingeing the two parts of the table top, in the middle of the panels, on their bottom side, a marking is made to fix the parts that will form a closed channel for the movement of the moving table leg.
The guides must be fixed at a distance of 30 mm from the joint between the two parts of the table top.
For the manufacture of parts, plywood with a thickness of 18 mm is taken. Then, 10 elements are cut out of it and processed with a router: 530 × 30 mm - 2 pcs., 530 × 20 mm - 2 pcs., 120 × 30 mm - 2 pcs., 122 × 30 mm -1 pcs., 120 × 20 mm - 2 pcs., 122 × 20 mm -1 pcs.
It is important to remember here that long slats should have 45˚ cuts on both sides, and short elements on both sides, so that when joined, they form a right angle. In addition, the upper long and short parts, fixed over the lower rails of the guides, are cut from the ends, also at an angle of 45˚. These cuts are necessary so that their corners do not interfere with the movement of the leg along the formed channel.
Then, parts are glued to the lined section of the rounded, and then to the rectangular part of the table top. First, they are fixed with glue, and then the longest strips with a size of 530 × 20 mm are screwed on with self-tapping screws, then a piece of 122 × 20 mm overlaps the channel.
On top of the long and short fixed rails, the second ones are glued, having the same length, but a greater width - they are also additionally screwed on with self-tapping screws. Thus, an even channel is formed between the tabletop and the top rail, along which the leg will move.
It is very important to calculate the location of the screwing points of the self-tapping screws so that the upper ones do not stumble upon those that fix the lower rails.
In the same way, four parts are fixed on the rectangular part of the tabletop.
All elements must be processed to smoothness and ideally evenly fixed to each other, otherwise the leg will run into obstacles and jam when moving.

The leg is usually made on a lathe. If it is not there, then you can order it from the master or purchase it ready-made.
As a last resort, you can make it square by processing the timber of the desired height until smooth.
Then, on the upper end part of the leg, using a dowel and glue, a square guide plate made of plywood with dimensions of 80 × 80 × 18 mm is fixed exactly in the center.

Further, after the glue dries, the leg can be installed in the channel intended for it and tested for its free movement, without jamming.
If necessary, you can carry out minor adjustments and improvements.

The finished tabletop is painted or coated with water-based varnish - if the goal is to preserve the textured pattern of plywood.
After that, the finished countertop is laid aside and proceeds to the manufacture of the curbstone.

The elements of the curbstone do not have complex configurations, therefore, in order to make them, it is enough on MDF or thick plywood panels to accurately transfer the dimensions of the parts indicated in the table and carefully cut them with a jigsaw or saw.
After the parts are made, their end parts must be processed to smoothness with a milling cutter, otherwise they will look sloppy.

If you plan to paste over the visible end parts of the cabinet parts with a special laminated edge band, then this process is carried out using a conventional iron.
The tape on its inner side has a layer of glue, which heats up under the influence of heat and ensures reliable fixation of the edge on the surface of the end parts of the MDF panels.

The next step in the cabinet door panel is to make curly grooves into which the furniture hinges will be installed and fixed.
The holes are made in the same way as in the tabletop using a router, but in this case the router can also be installed in a screwdriver, since MDF has a lower density than plywood and is easier to process without chipping the material.
The hinges should be positioned at a distance of 100 mm from the edges of the door - before starting drilling, it is imperative to carry out a thorough marking.
A similar procedure is carried out with the wall of the cabinet, on which the door will be fixed.
Then the door wall is joined together to check the correct installation and to mark holes for self-tapping screws.

In addition to the hinges, you can immediately screw the prepared handle to the door.
To do this, stepping back 50 mm from the edge of the panel and finding a convenient height position, mark a point through which a through hole is drilled to fix the handle.

All manufactured parts of the curbstone are painted with paint of the selected color using a roller and a brush.
The paint will not only make the product aesthetically pleasing, but also protect the material from the negative influence of a specific kitchen humid environment.

Next, you can proceed to the assembly of the bedside table.
Professionals carry out this process using special tools, but they can be easily replaced with improvised devices. For example, you can carry out the assembly on a flat table, and for ease of installation, the pedestal is additionally installed on flat bars.
Mutual fastening of parts can be carried out using wooden dowels, metal furniture corners or self-tapping screws - the latter option is the simplest, but also the most unreliable. In addition, after assembly, the caps of the self-tapping screws will have to be masked with various compounds.
The build process is as follows:
- Place the bottom panel on the supports.
- One of the side panels is set on it according to the level and with the help of the building angle, and its location is marked with a pencil.
-At the same time, the location of the fastening parts is outlined on the horizontal and vertical panels.
- Exactly the same procedure is carried out with the second side and dividing center wall.
- Then, holes are drilled at the marked points of the bottom and end faces of the side panels for installing the dowels.
- After that, before gluing the parts, the places for installing the shelves are determined on the side walls. Then, in the marked places, brackets-shelf supports are mounted, for which holes are also drilled.
- Further, dowels lubricated with glue are installed in the holes drilled in the bottom, side walls are put on their upper, protruding part.
- In the same way, non-removable lintel shelves are mounted, simultaneously with the side walls.

Before continuing to work, you need to make sure that the glue in the assembled structure is well dried.
To make the cabinet stiffer, it is laid on its side and squeezed with clamps for the duration of drying.

While the glue dries, you can start assembling the drawer.
Since it will be completely assembled from MDF, the installation of the box can also be carried out using dowels.
The sides are attached to the bottom of the box, and a line is drawn along them with a pencil, and then marks are made where the dowels will be installed.
Then, the sidewalls are removed, and in the marked places, holes are drilled in their end to install the fasteners. The same is done on the bottom panel.
Further, the dowels are coated with glue and carefully inserted into the holes, connecting the sidewalls to the bottom.

The sidewalls are twisted between themselves using self-tapping screws, the caps of which are recommended to be sunk into the wood, and the holes should be repaired with a mixture of epoxy glue and sawdust.
Furniture corners, which are screwed to the sides with self-tapping screws from the inside, can become another mounting option. You will need two corners on each side.

When assembling a box, it is necessary to control the evenness of its corners with a building corner and a change in diagonals, otherwise a skew may form.

If you plan to install metal roller guides for easy movement of the box, then for a start, the place of their attachment is determined on the sidewalls of the boxes and on the inner walls of the cabinet.
To do this, using a pencil and a ruler, a line is drawn along which the guides will be fixed.

Next, a front panel is installed to the front of the drawer. It is screwed on from the inside of the box, through pre-marked and drilled holes.
It is recommended to use glue in addition to self-tapping screws for fixing the panel: it is applied to the front panel, and then the front panel is pressed against it, and they are pulled together with four or five self-tapping screws.
After the glue dries, a hole is drilled in the center of the facade panel through which the handle is screwed.

Finally, the long-awaited moment comes - the combination of the cabinet and the tabletop.
It is recommended to first glue the stationary part of the tabletop to the surface of the cabinet, and then fix it with self-tapping screws, which are screwed in from the inside of the lower cabinets.
But, first, the tabletop must be correctly positioned. The part of the channel located on the permanently installed tabletop panel should rest against the side of the cabinet - it will serve as a stopper for the movement of the leg towards the table.
The table top should extend beyond the edges of the cabinet on the side of the drawer by 50 mm, open shelves by 30 mm, and from the side of the leg - by 120 mm.

Having secured the tabletop, proceed to the final installation and screwing the cabinet doors onto the screws.
Then the drawer is inserted, and the shelves are installed on the shelf supports.

When closed, the table is compact, therefore it does not take up much space and looks quite aesthetically pleasing.
If desired, for its decoration, you can choose other colors that will better harmonize with the interior of a particular room.

In the open state, the table also does not take up much space and will fit perfectly into one of the corners of the room.
Thanks to its "light" design, it does not weigh down the interior, and the shape of the table top makes it safe for children. Therefore, this version of the table can be considered ideal for small apartments with small kitchens and rooms.

If there is a need to save money, or there is simply a great desire to prove yourself in carpentry, then you should not postpone making it yourself. Moreover, the assembly will become not only an interesting and useful activity, but also a very pleasant one, especially at the moment when the work will be successfully completed.

For those who are confident in their abilities, another interesting version of the round table is offered, which may well serve both at home and on the territory of the site.

And one more idea for a kitchen table, which, if not true, can be realized independently by a skilled owner:

Video: lightweight kitchen table of collapsible design

The coffee table is an optional piece of furniture. Moreover, its presence makes any living room more comfortable. You can put a newspaper on the table, put a cup of tea or coffee. We will make this piece of furniture ourselves, making it truly original and comfortable.

Low table - a practical interior decoration

The very first coffee table was created in the middle of the 19th century in England. Within a couple of decades, this furniture adorned the living rooms of all European houses. In the 20th century, the fashion for it came to our country. True, in Russia the tables we are interested in are called coffee tables, not coffee tables. But this does not change the essence of the matter. Under such a piece of furniture is meant a small table no more than 40-50 cm high, which can have any ergonomics, look and design. It all depends on the preferences of the consumer.

In furniture stores, low tables are sold in a wide range. You can find both an inexpensive construction and a designer item that can make any interior chic and unusual. But many home craftsmen want to make an original table themselves, using a variety of materials at hand. We put a piece of our soul into homemade furniture. This means that it will turn out to be really comfortable and will be able to fill the home with coziness and warmth.

Coffee tables are made of wood and glass. Also, unusual and beautiful designs can be really assembled from:

  • an old window and ordinary books;
  • unused heating radiator;
  • wooden pallets or boxes;
  • dismantled interior or front door;
  • car tires;
  • wicker basket;
  • coils from the electrical cable.

There are a lot of options for making a table for tea drinking. You just need to show your imagination and listen to the advice of experienced craftsmen who are engaged in self-decoration of their homes. Next, we will describe the most popular ways to build coffee tables. And you will choose the most suitable option.

We make furniture from chipboard - as easy as shelling pears!

Chipboards are the most affordable material to create. Chipboards can be processed without problems, easily cut to the required dimensions, and have an affordable price. For the assembly of low tables, it is recommended to use laminated boards, as they are characterized by an attractive appearance, and the products from them are durable. There are many sites on the Internet where it is not difficult to find various dimensional drawings for making furniture from chipboard. We propose to make a table, focusing on the sketches below.

The structure planned by us consists of the following elements:

  • shelf with dimensions of 500x700 mm;
  • table top 736x736;
  • 4 slats 100x464;
  • 4 plastic corners and the same number of legs (or wheels);
  • 2 bottoms (dimensions of each of them - 500x700);
  • 4 slats 100x464.

We will carry out the fastening of these elements with cofiers, they will need 8 pieces, and 16 3.5x16 mm.

We make the table step by step. First (position 1 on the diagram) we make a shelf from chipboard (preferably, as mentioned, laminated) board. We cut it with an electric jigsaw, using a file with a small step. Such a tool will eliminate the likelihood of chips. Then (position 2) we attach the strips to the tabletop (we put them on the plastic corners). We mount the shelf (pos. 3) in the center of the planks installed vertically. We make holes in it with a cross section of 4.5 mm (you will need a drill with an appropriate drill). We fix the shelf with confirmations. Without them, our tea table may not turn out to be very stable and reliable in operation. Using the confirmations, screw the bottom of the structure (pos. 4).

After that we fasten the legs (pos. 5). They are not attached from the very edges of the table, but departing from them by about 15 mm. Instead of legs, it is allowed to mount small wheels (fixed with self-tapping screws). Then we have a mobile coffee table that can be moved around the house. It remains only to bring homemade furniture to mind. We glue all visible joints of our table with melamine edge. Visually, the construction of laminated chipboard will look perfect! By the way, instead of wood-shaving blanks, you can use MDF (wood-fiber products). The result will be approximately the same.

Glass table - stylish and elegant

The interiors, made in a modern theme, are superbly complemented by compact glass tables. They are installed on wooden or chrome-plated legs. It is desirable to use frosted glass. It usually has a special film that protects the countertop from mechanical damage. In addition, stains from spilled tea, coffee, other drinks and fingerprints will not be so noticeable on frosted glass.

The recommended tabletop width is up to 120 cm. It is not necessary to construct a table with large parameters. It will be difficult to fit it into the interior of a standard apartment or a small private house. Choose any form of construction. But if you are making a glass coffee table with your own hands for the first time, it is better to stop at a rectangular configuration. We will buy chrome-plated legs in a furniture store. And components made of wood are easy to make yourself. A drawing of a table with standard dimensions is shown below.

Let's get to work. To begin with, we cut out the glass according to the specified geometric parameters. This operation must be performed slowly. Place the glass on a flat surface. We outline the cutting lines with a simple pencil. We moisten the glass cutter with sunflower oil (or other lubricant). We apply a metal ruler to the outlined line. Carefully (without strong pressure) we go through the markings with a glass cutter. Then we move the glass from the surface, making sure that the extra pieces of material are on the weight. We knock with our fingers along the marking line, lightly press. After these actions, unnecessary parts of the glass break strictly along the lines made.

The trimmed material needs to be processed. First, we clean the edges of the glass with a file, then with a grinder equipped with a diamond tool. Additionally, it is recommended to grind potentially unsafe glass parts with sandpaper (fine grain). Then we take a thin felt, mount it on the edges of the countertop and press it against it. This will protect our furniture from scratches. We turn the table face down. We make marks for the installation of the legs. It is advisable to install them from the edges of the tabletop at a distance of at least 50 mm.

Drill holes at the top of the bases of all legs. You will need them to attach the suction cup. Everything is simple here. We process the suction cups with adhesive, mount them in the prepared holes, press the elements as tightly as possible. After the glue has set, we turn the homemade structure over to its normal position and wait about two days. After 48 hours, the coffee table will be ready for use.

We will build a structure made of wood - a win-win option

Wooden tea tables are suitable for any living space, no matter what kind of decor is implemented in them. Wood products look great both in classic interiors and in the most modern ones. Making wooden furniture with your own hands is really easy. Moreover, we can build a table of any design - the simplest one, with many additional drawers, stands, shelves. With the right approach to business, we will get a piece of furniture that is no different from expensive store tables.

We will not offer a drawing of a timber structure. Any craftsman is able to draw up a simple sketch of such a structure with the required dimensions. But let's say a few words about the materials and tools that will be needed to complete the work. Stocking up:

  • with bars or scraps of wood planks (we will make table legs and crossbars from them);
  • two thick boards;
  • varnish and stain;
  • grinder, sandpaper;
  • a saw for wood;
  • glue;
  • with an electric drill.

We start to create. We cut thick boards to the required dimensions to make a tabletop out of them. We connect them with a friend with another glue. We are waiting for the structure to stick together firmly. At this time, we make crossbars and legs from scraps of boards or bars. We give the tabletop the chosen shape. It can be rectangular or square (it's easier this way), but tables with a variety of roundness and bends look better. The tree is easy to handle. With the help of a hacksaw, we can easily create the tabletop of the configuration we need. After that, using a grinder, we carefully process the finished elements. Additionally, we rub their surface with sandpaper.

We apply stain on the countertop, legs, rungs. This composition gives the wood a noble appearance, providing an antiquity effect. The specified elements are treated with a stain completely. We need to apply it not only on the surface, but also on the end parts of the coffee table parts. Nuance. The ends of wood products can be covered with decorative materials, for example, butterflies, which are often used for this purpose.

Next, we attach the crossbars to the tabletop, assembled from two boards. The operation is carried out using glue and round spikes inserted into pre-drilled holes. The latter are drilled in the right places with an electric drill. We fix the legs in the same way: we make holes, grease the spikes with glue, insert them into the grooves. The tea table is ready. We will cover it with varnish so that the structure looks perfect, and we rejoice at the new interior item in the house.

Books, waste paper and an old window - you can even make a table out of them!

As we have already noted, an original coffee table can actually be made from various materials at hand. If you have a lot of old magazines and newspapers, you don't have to throw them away. Let's make an unusual table out of them according to the following scheme:

  1. 1. We turn waste paper into tight tubes.
  2. 2. Fix the resulting blanks with rubber bands.
  3. 3. We immerse the prepared tubes in a bucket filled with an emulsion on a water-polymer basis.
  4. 4. We are waiting for 5-7 minutes.
  5. 5. We take out the soaked paper blanks and hang them on a rope on wire hooks. Drying should be done in a dust-free room. Don't forget to put plastic wrap under the rope. Streams of water from the waste paper will flow onto it.
  6. 6. From the dried tubes we form a cabinet under a coffee table - we just glue them together (as tightly as possible) with PVA glue.

The created cabinet is usually secured with strong threads and left to dry. Then we trim our homemade table top and bottom. We get a neat bedside table. We glue plain or mirrored glass on top of it using silicone, which is used to repair aquariums. Advice. The glass should have a thickness of 1.2–1.5 cm. Thin tabletops will be unreliable in use. One careless movement and they will crack.

In cases where the old window structure in a dwelling is changed to a new one (for example, to a plastic one), the dismantled product can also be adapted for a coffee table. A minimum of difficulties awaits us. We remove hinges, handles, other accessories from the window, wash the canvas well. If necessary, rip off the old paint layer, polish the surface and paint with a fresh compound. Before us is a finished tabletop. You can install it on any legs. A great option is to make them from volumes that have been gathering dust on bookshelves in your home for decades.

We fasten the books to each other, forming legs of the required height from them.

The procedure is carried out using superglue. Another option is to drill neat holes in the books and thread a steel bar through them. We install the updated window frame on homemade legs and rejoice at our ingenuity. These coffee tables are good for interiors in retro, vintage, Provence styles. Instead of a window, by the way, it is allowed to use old doors, a mirror or just a large board that did not have a place on the farm.

Furniture for tea parties from pallets and boxes - simple and original

Wooden pallets are products used for the transportation and storage of various goods and cargo. Pallets serve the same function. But they are considered more modern designs. Both the first and the second are ready-made countertops. Low tables are made from them wonderfully well. Moreover, the entire process of making homemade furniture from such products requires a minimum of time and labor from a home craftsman.

We just need to thoroughly clean and wash the pallet, process it with a grinder and sandpaper, paint it in the chosen color. It is not necessary to apply a solid color. Color the table to your liking. Apply any ornaments and symbols to the pallet. And if you wish, you can not paint the workpiece at all, leaving the wood in its natural form. Small chips, scratches, cracks will emphasize the natural texture of the structure.

We install the prepared tabletop on low wooden blocks or on castors. Here you need to understand that the mass of the pallets is quite serious - up to 15-25 kg. Therefore, the wheels and legs for the table from the pallet should be selected correctly. They must be able to withstand the specified load. However, a pallet of sufficient height does not need to be equipped with legs. The design without them will be convenient and reliable.

If there are no pallets at hand, a table can actually be made from any empty wooden boxes. Containers for wine, vegetables, fruits are suitable. From two drawers, you can build a small coffee table, and from four, a spacious structure for gatherings with friends. We collect boxes in square or rectangular furniture. We fasten them together with nails, putty the places where the hardware is installed with a mixture of glue and sawdust. We decorate the structure, cover it with varnish. We get a gorgeous table.

We put a vase or a pot of flowers in the free space between the boxes. You can also cover it with a suitable sheet product. Nuance. Design experts advise making a plastic surface on the countertop if the interior of the home is made in the style of minimalism and modernity. For hi-tech and art deco decors, it is better to use a sheet of polished steel. Country-style interiors are beautifully complemented by wood flooring. And the glass, placed on the table from the drawers, will harmoniously fit into any decor of the room.

More ideas for assembling structures - some more creativity

A massive coffee table can actually be built from an old cast-iron radiator. It is enough to tint it a little, install it on strong wheels, and cover it with glass on top (if possible with rounded edges). The functionality of such a design is, of course, in question. She, nevertheless, weighs 60-80 kilograms. But she does not lack originality. Not a single guest of your home will be able to ignore such an unusual piece of furniture.

And car lovers have the opportunity to make a comfortable table from an old tire from their iron horse. Very often tires are used for garden and vegetable garden decoration. But even in the house, with proper preparation, they will look appropriate. To create a table from a tire in the now popular eco-style, you need to stock up on:

Old tire table

  • two circles cut from a plywood sheet (we take their section slightly less than the diameter of the tire used);
  • superglue;
  • cord, plait or decorative rope;
  • varnish;
  • self-tapping screws, electric drill;
  • wheels.

We attach plywood circles to the tire on both sides. Products can be put on superglue or (which is more reliable) on self-tapping screws. If you want your homemade plywood lid to open, one of the circles should be set on small tabs. Then in the tire niche it will be possible to store various household items.

After that, we proceed to decorate the coffee table. We make a small circle from the rope (harness). We coat the middle of the plywood tabletop with glue. We carefully fix the rope element on it. In the same way, going from the center to the edges, we decorate the rest of the surface. Then we turn the tire over and continue to braid it on the sides. The bottom of the structure does not need to be decorated. We attach the legs to the bottom sheet (as an option - wheels). The table is ready. It remains to cover it with varnish or a special wax composition.

Dream more daringly! Original tables for tea drinking can be made from other materials at hand. The more creative the craft looks, the more positive emotions you will experience looking at it. Decorate your home with unusual home-made furniture, creating unique interiors. Good luck.

Making a coffee table with your own hands is the perfect way to add originality to the interior and surprise guests. This piece of furniture is an integral part of any recreation area and always attracts attention.

Making a coffee table with your own hands is the perfect way to add originality to the interior and surprise guests.

Comprehension of the science of turning ordinary things into a highlight of the situation is subject to everyone. And in order to understand how to make a coffee table with your own hands, you just need to be inspired by creative ideas, show your own imagination and make a little effort.

What source materials do interior designers use in their work? But the undoubted favorite is always wood. She is loved for her naturalness, environmental friendliness, natural texture and color palette.

The original coffee tables made from stumps or cuts of a natural tree trunk, despite their apparent simplicity, will become a completely unique piece of furniture and will ideally fit into the design of a bedroom or living room decorated in an eco-style.

What source materials do interior designers use in their work? But the undoubted favorite is always wood.
  • blank (a stump with a part of the root system or a saw cut from a whole tree trunk);
  • chisel;
  • hammer;
  • saw;
  • building level;
  • manual or electric plane;
  • sander or sandpaper;
  • brush.

How to make:

  • a piece of wood of the required size must be thoroughly dried in a warm, dry room;
  • use a hammer and a chisel to remove the bark from the tree (if desired, the bark can not be removed);
  • using a saw, form the base of the table or legs from the root branches;
  • with a building level, check the evenness of the tabletop, if necessary, trim it with a planer;
  • brush to clean the workpiece from debris and shavings;
  • grind the sections and the side surface of the stump with a sander or fine-grained emery paper.

A stump processed in this way is already a kind of small table in itself. If desired, it can be primed with a bio-protective primer, painted over with paint, applied in various patterns and varnished.

Woody layered fantasy

A plywood coffee table is a more affordable alternative to natural wood. The multi-layered, faceless and unsightly at first glance material has almost the same qualities as wood, but at the same time it is an ideal basis for simple furniture design. Plywood elements can be given any shape: rectangular, rounded, broken - which stimulates the master to bold design experiments.

Having conceived a plywood coffee table, work should start with a drawing, using existing sketches or creating your own. In the latter case, we will receive a 100% original product at the output.

Plywood coffee table - a more affordable alternative to natural wood

How to make a small round plywood table on rectangular bases:

  • prepare a drawing including 4 parts - 2 identical round shapes for the base and table top, 2 identical rectangular shapes for the table supports;
  • transfer the patterns of parts to a plywood sheet with a nominal thickness of 9 to 30 mm (the thicker the sheet, the stronger the final product will be);
  • cut out the required elements with a jigsaw or a hacksaw;
  • process the ends of each template with a grinder;
  • in rectangular shapes in the center, using a router, make cuts with a width of 1.5-2 cm so that you can cross-insert the parts into each other;
  • connect the rectangular parts, having previously lubricated the joints with wood glue;
  • fix the tabletop and table base on a wooden cross using liquid nails (to increase the strength of the product, additionally fix the round parts with self-tapping screws or tongue-and-groove piles);
  • treat the finished product with wood stain, paint (optional) and open with varnish.

The simplicity of the design makes it easy to screw the wheels to the table. Interior design in which plywood furniture will look great - grunge, minimalism, constructivism.

The idea of a quadrangular shape

A coffee table made of drawers is another unexpected idea of designers, captivating with its simplicity. Rectangular storage containers of various sizes are a universal basis for creating DIY furniture. Fancy tables, dressers, wardrobes and chairs can be assembled from simple plastic drawers, but the more elegant and vintage look of homemade furniture is easier to achieve using antique wooden drawers.

What you need to make a table from boxes on wheels:

  • 4 wooden boxes, the same size;
  • plywood sheet with a thickness of at least 10 mm;
  • 4 swivel castors for containers, trolleys and scaffolding;
  • puncher or screwdriver;
  • joiner's glue;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • fasteners (dowels);
  • impregnation for wood;
  • water-based varnish;
  • brush.

A coffee table made of drawers is another unexpected idea of designers, captivating with its simplicity

How to make a table:

  • clean the boxes with sandpaper, apply impregnation and open with varnish;
  • let the product dry;
  • put the boxes on their side and put them together in such a way that a table is formed (in this case, a kind of shelves are formed on the side of the structure);
  • mark the places of fasteners and drill holes for fasteners;
  • connect boxes;
  • using self-tapping screws, fix the wheels at the corners of the plywood sheet;
  • fix the fastened boxes on the plywood base.

In the resulting recess in the center of the product, you can pour a variety of decor, put a vase of flowers, a lamp, put magazines or books in the side shelves, turning the coffee table into an original bookcase. This type of furniture will fit well into the design of a home furnished in eclectic, country or French Provence style.

Car industry element in the house

A completely unusual piece of furniture can be made using an old car tire. This technique is used by the most fashionable designers, and, perhaps, it is this idea that will form the basis for creating an exclusive coffee table with your own hands.

For a coffee table you will need:

  • old tire;
  • plywood;
  • rounded wooden beams for making legs;
  • studs and nuts;
  • liquid Nails;
  • glue gun;
  • drill and self-tapping screws;
  • natural tourniquet for decorating;
  • topcoat.

How to make:

  • choose the most surviving wheel, wash and dry;
  • cut a wooden beam into three equal parts and make table legs (if you have your own lathe, it is advisable to make conical supports);
  • to give the tire stability using studs, nuts and rigid plywood inserts in three places;
  • plant a wooden tabletop on liquid nails and fasten it to the tire with self-tapping screws;
  • attach the legs to the base and screw them to the tire (it is desirable that the self-tapping screws enter the plywood stiffeners through the rubber);
  • use a glue gun to fix the natural twine in the middle of the countertop;
  • braid the tabletop in a circle from the center to the edges, constantly gluing the rope;
  • continue decorating until the string covers the entire rubber surface of the tire;
  • fix the end of the braid with glue and a metal bracket;
  • cover the table with a topcoat (wax or varnish).

The bus table does not need to be decorated. By installing special wooden stoppers at the bottom of the tabletop, it can be made removable like a cover, which will allow you to store various useful little things inside the tire.

A table made of a car tire and decorated with a rope can become a highlight of the interior, and a brutal rubber table will perfectly fit into hi-tech and techno style.

Travelers club exhibit

Retro style lovers and avid travelers looking to express their passion in interior furnishings can easily make a table from their grandfather's old suitcase with their own hands.

What you need:

  • a suitcase with rigid walls;
  • wooden furniture legs or casters;
  • a sheet of thick plywood;
  • screws and screwdriver.

Even a sturdy suitcase is better to be additionally reinforced with plywood sheets. This will allow you to get a flat "table top" without dips, on which you can put both food plates and glasses. Stages of product manufacturing:

  • cut 2 templates from plywood and attach them from the inside to the walls of the future table-suitcase;
  • make markings for the legs and screw them to the lower plywood template inside the suitcase using screws;
  • paste over the inner surface of the resulting table with a bike, linen cloth or felt.

Original suitcase tables can be decorated to your taste in a variety of ways. They are decorated with travel stickers, envelopes, stamps. Decor made using decoupage technique with aging effect looks very profitable and elegant. The interior design, in which the suitcase table will organically look, is avant-garde, eclecticism, loft and fusion.

Product from euro pallets

Few people know that you can create an exceptional home interior using conventional production pallets (Euro pallets) made of wood. The process of making a coffee table from one or several pallets does not require much effort, since the product itself has an extremely successful shape.

Required materials and tools:

  • wooden pallet;
  • swivel wheels;
  • brush;
  • sanding machine;
  • joiner's glue;
  • drill and screws.

Build order:

  • clean the pallet of dirt with a stiff brush;
  • sand the boards;
  • cover the structure with a primer for wood products;
  • fix the swivel wheels at the corners of the product base with a drill and screws.

Having remade the pallet, you should give it a designer look with the help of finishing. This will help white or bright acrylic paint, water-based varnish. The table from the pallet can be painted all over or an original drawing can be applied to its working surface.

If desired, the pallet can be refined by placing on top impact-resistant glass of the same size as the pallet or treated plywood. A pallet table can be static and just stand on the floor, or it can be able to go to a place in the room convenient for the owners if rotating wheels are attached to its base. Plus, the rubberized castors do not scratch the floor.

New life of old things

Changing the windows in the apartment for fashionable metal-plastic, many throw away the old frames, not even suspecting that they can be used to make an amazing homemade coffee table.

All you need to do is:

  • remove the metal fittings from the frame;
  • clean up the rest of the paint;
  • strengthen the corners of the structure with additional fasteners;
  • lay the frame with glass on unusual legs (piles of books or packs of old magazines can serve as supports for such an impromptu table).

In the case of using a double frame, the presence of a wide variety of decor between the glasses is permissible:

  • beads;
  • colored sand;
  • seashells;
  • dried flowers.

Changing the windows in the apartment for fashionable metal-plastic, many throw away the old frames, not even suspecting that they can be used to make an amazing homemade coffee table

Not a single guest will remain indifferent after seeing such a creation by the master. Interior design, assuming the presence of hand-made furniture from old things - eclecticism, kitsch or pop art.

As a basis for the table, you can use:

  • cast iron battery;
  • car engine skeleton;
  • barrel, grandmother's chest, large stones;
  • rolls of old wallpaper.

Unusual legs will turn out from water pipes, and from plastic, a door leaf or an old mirror - an original tabletop.

Using fragile glass as a work surface, one-legged structures should be avoided; those who have small children and large pets in the family should be careful with glass.

From the materials at hand, by showing imagination, you can make an original and multifunctional transforming table, an exclusive bedside table and a convenient side table-shelf.

Anyone who at least once tried to remake banal things into unique "living" interior items is unlikely to be able to stop. Independent design and manufacture of furniture is a fascinating, addictive process that for many becomes a real hobby. A homemade coffee table is the perfect subject for a first experience. Thinking outside the box, an ingenious design approach, and a little bit of skill are all that are needed to be successful.

Attention, only TODAY!

The table is the second object after the stool, which should be tackled by a novice amateur furniture maker. The design of a simple table is no more complicated than that of a stool; an unpretentious comfortable table for a dacha or for a picnic can be built in half a day using a hacksaw, hammer and drill. But a table made according to the same technology and slightly ennobled can look great at home, on the left in the figure, instead of an expensive purchase. However, the table also gives great freedom of creative expression, it can be a significant and even key element of interior design, it is not for nothing that handicraft furniture makers are called carpenters, and not sofa chairs, cupboards or bedside tables. Having dabbled in the carpentry craft, you can eventually take on exclusive tables, the rest of the pos. in the same place.

This article looks at how to make wood tables. Wood is an environmentally friendly, affordable and easily processed material with remarkable aesthetic benefits. In utilitarian products, she forgives rather gross mistakes for beginners, but delicate woodwork requires high skill. Having learned how to make wooden things, then it will be much easier to master glass, metal and plastic.

Tool and workshop

To make a table with your own hands, you need a production room separate from the living rooms: woodwork, as you know, is dusty. In addition, such good means of tinting and wood protection, such as stains, emit harmful fumes during the staining process; nitro lacquers too, although to a lesser extent. Therefore, home carpentry should be well ventilated, or better - with forced ventilation. You can use the garage, but there will be a lot of sawdust, and they will not benefit the car. Better to work in a barn; if it is not yet there, then it can be built, but on the farm it will come in handy for a lot.

An ordinary carpentry tool, on the left in the figure, is enough for a start. But the work will go much faster, and the result will be better if modern achievements are brought in to help, on the right in the same place:

  • Swivel miter box, pos. 1, allows you to make cuts exactly in size and angle in 2 planes. It is advisable to take it with a complete bow saw, so everything together will be cheaper, and the work is more precise. The miter box is a universal device, it will always come in handy and it is better to buy it.
  • A manual jigsaw with a tilting shoe, pos. 2, which allows you to cut at an angle to the vertical plane.
  • Disc grinder, pos. 3 and 4, the beginner is given the opportunity to get the surface of a wooden surface in 5-15 minutes, on which an experienced carpenter with a skin in his hand will take at least an hour, and a strip, pos. 5, also quickly and efficiently process the ends; there are also belt sander for grooves and recesses with a protruding working body. These are already specialized tools, unsuitable for other works, and quite expensive, so at first it is better to rent them. True, the masters are still successfully brushing with grinders, i.e. artificially aging, wood, but this is a delicate work.
  • It is also preferable at first to rent a hand-held wood router, pos. 6, with a set of cutters. Shaped edges are processed with it, holes and grooves are selected.

Very useful on the farm in general is a universal household woodworking machine (UBDS) of various modifications. It is compact, fits on a table, power supply - 220 V 50/60 Hz 380-500 W. UBDS combines a circular saw, planer, wood turning machines and a set of cutters. True, you can't just grind the table legs on it, the overhang of the tailstock support is too small. But the caliper itself is just a round steel pipe, it is not difficult to lengthen it. The cutter stop remains standard, it is movable, the leg and with a long support are sharpened in one setting.

How to choose a tree?

A wooden table can be made from any wood of average resistance to decay, except for the softest species: poplar, aspen, alder, willow, ailant. Of the domestic ones, these include:

The breeds are ranked in order of availability. For example, the harvesting of horse chestnut, sycamore and juniper wood is not carried out at all: the former are too valuable for landscaping in the southern regions, and the juniper is endangered and protected. The industrial harvesting of elm is almost entirely used for shoe stocks, weaving shuttles, etc., and mountain ash is used for armory; there is no full-fledged plastic replacement for them yet. Stone birch grows very slowly, in limited places, it does not renew itself well, therefore its harvesting is strictly regulated, and timber is expensive.

Note: walnut is especially valuable for furniture - its wood combines high hardness with excellent toughness, the most delicate walnut carving does not prick. And walnut wood from burls - large growths on the trunk - is not inferior in texture to Karelian birch.

At the beginning of a carpentry career, it is better to limit yourself to pine, birch, oak, acacia and boxwood. Pine or oak will go to the countertop; birch - on the legs of a pine table; in the countertop, it is strongly warped from a spill. Acacia and boxwood make excellent dowels, see below.

On a pine tabletop made of boards, you can and even need to take off-grade cheap boards - knotty, twisted. But, of course, without falling out knots, cracks, wormholes and traces of rot in the form of spots of an unnatural color: black, gray, blue, green, in general, not similar to this tree. For example, traces of rot on black (ebony) wood can be whitish or yellowish.

Why is the countertop substandard? Perhaps also unedged, which needs to be finished on a circular and a jointer? And after skillfully processing them, layers of remarkable beauty are obtained, on the left in Fig. Manufacturers do not like such a tree: the production cycle is delayed, waste increases. But for yourself with your own hands it is not so scary compared to the result.

Wooden top

Business pine has a clearly expressed zoning of wood in the form of growth rings; other conifers and many deciduous species also have it. On the saw cut, the rings form the so-called. a hump in the form of thin concentric arcs. If the top of the tree is directed across the face of the board, as in Fig. in the center, then when rallying the board for the table top (see below), the boards are oriented with humps alternately up and down, from below in Fig. If the peaks are directed to the end of the board (on the right in the figure), then the boards are placed in the shield with peaks in one direction. These subtleties are necessary so that during operation the tabletop does not split and warp.

Varnishes, paints, impregnation, glue

Waste engine oil is a free remedy to protect wood from rotting, but for what one eats from, this is not the best option. Optimal will be 2-fold, with a break of 3-5 days, impregnation with a water-polymer emulsion (VPE), it will give the table protection for the entire period of its life. Even birch plywood, impregnated with WPE, is suitable for the front panels of furniture: covered with varnish on top, it does not delaminate.

Old furniture nitrocellulose varnishes NTs-218 and NTs-2144 with solvent No. 647 are gradually falling out of use: in all respects they are superior to water-based acrylic varnishes; in addition, they are safe to work with. Also, adhesives, bone carpentry and BF-2 for alcohol are inferior to PVA; however, to obtain a high-quality seam, the latter requires the application of glue to both surfaces, keeping them tack-free before joining and holding under pressure for 1-3 days, but in home production this is acceptable for oneself.

Wood for furniture can be tinted in advance and protected with a stain, which allows you to make beautiful typesetting parts; an example will be given below. To touch up the assembled units, you can use paints based on the same varnish and artistic (not painting!) Dyes: oil in tubes for NTs varnishes and acrylic water colors for the same varnish.

First, a "paint" is prepared: they take 30-50 ml of varnish and squeeze 1-1.5 cm of paint into it with continuous thorough stirring with a painting brush. The paint is stored in a tightly closed vial and added to the varnish to the desired tone; a test for it is done on a piece of wood, the tone is determined by the complete drying of the varnish. Colored varnishes on NC and oil paints can be mixed according to the rules for mixing oil paints for painting; acrylic - no restrictions.

First steps

The country table is the first of the homemade ones. If there are 1-2 brick pallets left from the construction site, then the pallet table will be the first of the first. Not only because it is extremely simple, but also because it is very useful on the farm.

From one pallet, sanded, impregnated and varnished, you get a garden table like a coffee table, on the left in Fig. If you have a couple, you can make a wall-mounted desk-rack, in the center and on the right, in just half an hour. Chains for him can also be woven from soft wire, covered with a PVC tube or, better, heat-shrinkable. To fully raise the tabletop, place the small tool on the shelf of the wall pallet.

With a little more work, a collapsible cutting table is made from one pallet for a summer residence, which allows you to transfer the summer-autumn harvesting campaign to the street, without littering with husks and without treading on stumps. For the winter, this table is assembled in a compact package. The design is clear from the pic; a bucket is placed under the hatch in the countertop.

The next in order of complexity is the well-known country table-goat, in common parlance a goat. Its 40mm plank construction is shown on the left in the figure, and in addition to it is a bench from the same device. And on the right is a suburban folding table based on the same principle. It has hinge joints (bolts М8-М12, washers and nuts with locknuts); in the place indicated in green, a boss-stop is placed on the nails between the crossbars of the tabletop. When folded, this table fits in the trunk of a car, so it will also go for a picnic. If this is not foreseen, or the trunk is larger, the tabletop can be made longer.

Finally, the table for the gazebo also does not require special tools and skills, see fig. below. The material is the same forty board and some inexpensive fasteners.

One step closer to art ...

To get ahead in dining, you now need to learn some of the basics of carpentry. The table, in general, consists of a tabletop, its support frame, possibly with niches and / or mechanisms, or just a plate - a subframe - legs, and assemblies that hold everything together. Let's go through them starting with the connections together with the legs, because their fastening is the weakest point of the table.

Connections and legs

At first, we need to master the connection on dowels - round wooden bosses, see fig. Dowel joints are assembled on quick-drying, non-aging glue: carpentry, BF-2, acrylic. Sometimes, instead of dowels, nails with bitten off caps are used to connect thin boards, pos. 4, but this is bad: the wood dries up, but the metal does not, and over time, the connection looses.

A thin-layer wood is taken on the dowels, which is stronger than both parts to be joined, i.e. the hardest rocks. A pine table with birch legs can be joined on oak or beech dowels. On sale there are ready-made round sticks for cutting dowels; before use, the edges of the dowels are chamfered. Plastic dowels are also sold, but they are intended exclusively for detachable connections, for example. inserts in sliding tables.

Legs are attached to industrial tables with detachable drawers, see fig. on right. The pos. Marked in yellow is the simplest, cheapest and worst. Buyers of Shiroptrebovskaya Soviet furniture are well aware of its shortcomings in the complete absence of merits, even if it remains there. They are reliable, they hold well, except for the legs, and underframe boards, tsars with cut-in jibs, "green" pos. They also require the lowest costs, but are quite laborious, therefore they are rarely used in industry, but just right for an amateur. The tsarga with a shaped steel jib, in the upper right in the figure, is even stronger; in this way, you can fix the legs with a round head and in general any, however, purchased fittings made of high-quality steel are required.

Note: the legs are attached to the round table as shown below in fig.

Detachable legs are needed not only for easy storage and transportation. In a small apartment with a narrow corridor, a table with legs is often simply impossible to push to the living room, no matter how you twist it. Modern apartments are more spacious, and in 1-storey private houses, the table can be served / issued through the window, therefore, in such cases, the strength and durability of the table with tightly fixed legs comes to the fore.

For tables on a rectangular base, the heads of the legs for blind mounting should also be rectangular, pos. 1 in fig. By the way, the tsars are also one-piece: then the legs with dowels that go through the cut-in wooden jib. From the inside, the dowels are cut flush and wedged with cornel or boxwood wedges inserted across the jib wood grain. Assembled with glue, such a connection is so strong and durable that you can fight with these 200-year-old tables by grabbing the leg.

Sufficiently high-quality tables on chiseled legs are assembled simply on dowels, pos. 2. For simpler tables, the legs are made of timber and fastened with self-tapping screws after attaching the tabletop to the tabletop, pos. 3. Even simpler and easier are the legs of a pair of boards each, pos. 4 and 5. So that they do not cling to the floor, you need to stuff the heels on them below or put the table on wheels.

Table top

The easiest, but not cheapest, is to order a worktop made of laminated chipboard (laminated chipboard, laminate). Chipboard for countertops is produced in the form of the so-called. postforming - slabs 3.6x1.2 m with a thickness of 20-60 mm with a decorative coating. The upper edge of the post-forming plate is rounded, the lower face with a drip tray, see fig. Modern furniture laminate is quite environmentally friendly, no matter what those who do not want to forget, the joint furniture, which smelled of phenol for months, may gossip.

Postforming is well bought by small furniture companies. They always have his waste; of them, they will willingly and at a very affordable price cut the tabletop to size, if the company has a coordinate cutting machine. Perhaps such an order will be accepted by a single individual entrepreneur if he is sitting idle. The finished slab will be trimmed, i.e. cover the PVC end with a piping (edge). If you will trim yourself (sometimes they ask for an awkward surcharge for edging), then consider:

  • The upper and lower flanges of the edge have a different profile, see on the left in fig. Confuse - there will always be a mud edge on the table.
  • The edging must be taken exactly according to the thickness of the slab. You can put a 24 mm edging on a 25 mm slab, but it will slide off soon.
  • The groove for the edge ridge must be selected with a manual disc cutter; with a saw, it seems, no one has done it well yet.
  • Before installing the edging, a thin layer of silicone sealant is applied to the end surface and the "sausage" is squeezed into the groove; in this case, the silicone will also be a lubricant, without which the edge ridge can simply crumple.
  • The comb is inserted into the groove with light blows from a mallet, gradually moving along the contour. At the same time, the table top should lie on the support, facing up; Any excess silicone that has squeezed out is immediately washed off with a clean cloth slightly moistened with vinegar.

Plank tabletops are rallied in plank casings with wedges and spacers - vaimah. It is quite possible to make Vimes yourself; on the countertop you need 3-4. The boards (cheeks) are wrapped in polyethylene so that the shield does not stick to them. In fig. for example, the process of making a round tabletop; rectangular rallies in the same way, only trimming to size is easier. The shield is rallied to the tabletop with glue and dowels (see below); if the boards are grooved, dowels are not needed. When rallying on PVA, the next plot before installation in the clamp is kept until the applied glue is tack-free.

Often, countertops are assembled without vines on a plaza - a flat surface covered with plastic wrap. It will not work to assemble a good boardboard on the plaza: either it will come out slit, or they will stand on end when assembling the boards. But inlaid tabletops from fragments are simply wonderful in skilled hands. For example, at pos. 1-3 fig. - table top made of sawing waste, stained with stain. And at pos. 4-5 the base of the tabletop is the plaza itself, made of thick plywood. The tile and its battle are glued with tile glue, then the hollows are filled with grout for drinking, the surface is lacquered and the outline is edged with a wooden strip.

Note: these examples illustrate by no means all the possibilities of making type-setting art tabletops with your own hands.

Underframe

The underframe of the table with fixed legs is a simple wooden frame, on the left in fig. Niches and details of mechanisms are not involved in the power circuit. If the table is longer than 1.2 m, or the table top is removable / extendable, or high operating loads are expected (eg work table), the underframe is reinforced with stiffeners in the center. If the legs are fastened with tsars, then the underframe is performed at the same time as the tabletop, so that a single power circuit is obtained, on the right in Fig.

No frame

Tables without a base are also known, in which the table top with legs work in a single supporting system. Very durable, e.g. plywood table on the left in rice; its connections are dowel. Unfortunately, this is not an economical design for an amateur: the sidewalls cannot be assembled from pieces, they must be solid. In mass production, the waste is not very large, but a piece of plywood with a thickness of 24 mm and more will go to large sidewalls, and another 1 for smaller ones. The table on the right is already quite possible to make with your own hands: the supporting frame is prefabricated; connections - in a thorn with a bolt tightening and half a tree. However, the table top in this case should be round or square, with rounded or right corners.

... and we get into the kitchen

Exactly. The table for the kitchen is the next in order of complexity after the simplest summer cottages. It must already meet the requirements of apartment ergonomics, dimensions - 75 cm in height for people of average completeness; the width of the seat for 1 eater / rider is 60-80 cm, depending on its corpulence, the width of the table top is not less than 70 cm. Aesthetic appearance is very desirable, but it is not decisive: he suddenly pulled up with decoration, and that's what the tablecloth is for. The worktop should be easy to clean, durable, and resistant to spilled heat from hot dishes.

All these requirements will be met by a laminated chipboard table with metal legs; they are also sold separately in sets of 4, with fasteners, on the left in fig. Factory table legs are usually equipped with height-adjustable heels. The table, the manufacture of which will be reduced to screwing the legs of the legs with confirmatory screws, will cost 30-50% cheaper than the whole purchased one, and in appearance it will not yield to it, on the right in Fig.

If you are not too lazy to put your hands on, steel legs can be made with your own hands. This is not only a cheaper, but also a more durable option: the nests of the branded legs are cast from a rather fragile silumin, the fasteners weaken over time, they need to be tightened. You yourself can cut the nests out of good steel, and weld the very legs into them.

The kitchen is more spacious, perhaps there is room for a larger table. In such a case - on the trail. rice. kitchen table drawings in a rustic style. This table is "rustic" not only in appearance: it does not contain a single nail and, in general, metal fasteners. Only wood and glue. A connoisseur, seeing one, nods his head in understanding and approval, and the design is simple and accessible to a beginner. True, in addition to the table top, the shields on the sidewalls will also have to be rallied, but in this case the extra work is worth it.

Kruglyashi

A table with a round top is appropriate in any room, as long as it fits there. But a tabletop made of boards in this case is not the best option: due to the presence of sharp corners, it is without a frame, which is very complex and time-consuming, prone to splitting. From this drawback, type-setting tabletops from small fragments, like the one described above from waste, are free; unlike round laminate, they are decorative, stylish, unique and practically free.

There are even more sharp corners in the small-type worktop, but here the “law of the broom” works. Not the American Senator Venik, who loves democracy in Russia to the point of being completely forgotten about it at home, but the broom with which they sweep the rubbish. As you know, it is impossible to break it (a broom, not a senator) tied up, and a child will break twig by twig. So here, thanks to the ease of distribution of loads between small fragments, the type-setting of them worktop as a solid plate, and after assembly it can be cut off even with the letter si.

Note: the idea of the senator-broom, sorry, Broom, was inspired by the statement of his compatriot Samuel Clemens, world famous as Mark Twain: “I affirm, and undertake to prove it, that Mr. Cooper has no more fantasy than a bull. But not the bull that bellows in the pasture, but the one that is the pillar of the bridge. "

How to make a semi-folding round table is shown in fig; on the right there are the dimensions of the table top and the assembly order. And in fig. on the right above - a small round table for the hallway, according to the old classification - a business one. Its feature is the minimum number of connections; assembly with glue. Any round will go to the countertop, from a saw cut to a cardboard stump, made by the method of making cardboard shelves, but the underframe is necessarily strong, made of wood (two hundred board) or chipboard.

Moving on: into the living room

The table in the main room of the house should be suitable for the whole house. At the same time, with the modern striving for laconic design (which also saves the cost of living space), the table should, for the time being, not be conspicuous and take up less space. Therefore, one of the most popular pieces of furniture of our days has become a transforming table.

The simplest transformable table, which, with all its transformations, remains a table, and does not turn into a wardrobe or a bed - a table-bedside table; it is quite possible to do it yourself "from scratch". Here, 2 options are most commonly used. On the left in Fig. - unfolding table, it has a record ratio of occupied areas in expanded and folded form. These are most often placed in studio apartments perpendicular to the wall on the border of the kitchen and living areas. With the countertop fenders lowered, it serves as a bar. By raising the wings one at a time, you can get a kitchen or everyday dining table, and fully deployed (in the center), it will provide a place for a rather crowded banquet.

A bachelor living in a small apartment is more suitable for a folding table-bedside table, on the right in Fig. These are, in essence, 2 small round folding tables described above, connected by a rectangular insert. You can dine with one folded from it, because, unlike the previous version, there is something to do with your legs. And when unfolded, spend a romantic evening with a beautiful stranger or heartfelt gatherings with friends.

All of the above qualities combine transforming coffee-dining tables with a mechanism. The variety of transformation mechanisms is great, but for tables, which are always tables, they basically come down to 2 types: an elevator (pantograph) and a book. How one and the other work, see the video:

Theoretically, a book is more stable than an elevator, although a lot depends on the quality of execution. Books are more popular with book lovers, because a book mechanism can still be made independently, and an elevator outside production conditions is unlikely.

How the book-table is laid out is shown in stages in Fig. on right. To make it yourself, you need to know that the key unit is a damping-balancing elastic link. In fairly expensive proprietary designs, very soft working gas dampers (gas lifts) are used, but an amateur is better off choosing a spring damper, and not because gas lift is much more expensive.

The fact is that the gas lift must be, within fairly narrow limits, coordinated with the kinematics of the lever system, the weight of the table top, the underframe and the own weight of the levers. If the balance of the entire system does not fit into its characteristics, the mechanism simply will not work. And the spring can always be tightened / loosened; as a last resort, replace. In general, an unsuccessful home-made transforming table with gas lifts is rarely "brought to mind", and a spring one almost always. If you decide to still torment yourself with a homemade acrobat table, in fig. - drawings of the spring transformation mechanism.

Without the presence of drilling, turning and milling machines for metal or access to them, most of the parts of the transformation mechanism will have to be ordered. Then its production will cost a little about $ 40, and you can buy a good ready-made one for $ 50- $ 60. A factory transformer coffee table rarely pulls less than $ 200, so even in this situation, the savings are significant.

The transforming table is made for the mechanism. One of the most popular are Mazetti transformation mechanisms, due to their good quality at a moderate price for this class of products. In addition, Mazetti mechanisms are produced in a supporting frame (inset in the center in the figure), which greatly simplifies installation. The rest of the pos. in fig. show the device and dimensions of the table for this mechanism.

For a strong revelry

Say what you like, but in a normal family with children, friends and relatives, you cannot do without crowded gatherings at the table, and here a transforming table will not always help out. However, we will leave the banquet tables for the living room in more or less full volume, as they say, for later: these are products of a higher order of complexity; primarily due to the sliding mechanism.

By the way, the good old "sliders" with wooden guides and wooden sliders of the countertop halves (item 1 in the figure), if properly executed, are quite convenient and reliable, in addition they can be made by yourself, but this process requires a special detailed description. Modern sliding mechanisms with telescopic rails of full extension, pos. 2, allow the use of not 1, but up to 3-5 inserts, which increases the capacity of the table by 6-10 persons, respectively, but is quite expensive, and their installation requires a description that is no less voluminous.

There are banquet tables with folding bed inserts, pos. 3. In elite models, when sliding / sliding the halves of the tabletop, the inserts raise, unfold and put in place or put back into the underframe a very complex mechanism, but its manual versions are available for making at home.

As for banquet tables with pull-out individual tables, arranged like a keyboard stand in a computer desk, they cannot be called popular: leaning forward (and how to avoid this if the house is without servants?), We get the board back to the underframe, and our portion of the treat - for festive clothes.

But let's not talk about sad things. Recall that the table is not always pushed apart, and you can use the side table, but a solid table is more reliable in any case. Therefore, in the series of pictures below, there is a way to make a very durable and inexpensive dining table, and how it looks "alive" - see on the left in fig. at the beginning.

In addition

The table, and indeed any furniture, often wants to be painted not just with stripes or artistically painted. To protect the design from external influences and to ensure that the varnish can be refilled if necessary, paint should not be applied, but rubbed into the wood before varnishing. The technique of painting by the method of layer-by-layer rubbing of paints is called glaze. So, in conclusion, we offer a master class on wood glazing.

In the age of electronic media, few people bother reading print media. Despite this, coffee tables still take pride of place in every home.

In addition to their direct purpose, they can be used for other useful things: serving a light breakfast or dinner, minor repairs and homemade creativity.

Simplicity of construction, a variety of shapes and designs, a minimum of tools - all these advantages of coffee tables attract the attention of home craftsmen. In our article, we will make a detailed overview of popular homemade products and give practical advice on how to make them.

Design options for coffee tables

The easiest way is to make a coffee table with your own hands, using boards made of edged boards, veneered chipboard or MDF.

In order to hide the connection points of the slabs, the classic method is used - assembly on round wooden spikes (dowels). All that is required from a home craftsman in this case is to accurately mark the installation locations of the spikes at the ends of the sidewalls and drill the mounting holes for them in the lower and upper covers.

The simplest coffee table made of MDF board

To increase the rigidity of the structure, a vertical cross member must be installed between its side walls. A small niche for storing magazines and other little things here will not be superfluous. It can be made from the slab left after cutting out the covers and sides.

Mobility is a useful option for a table. It is realized by installing furniture wheels on the bottom. The compact transport wheels can be hidden, or you can buy larger ones and make them stand out on purpose. So we get an original table on wheels made of polished bars that support a massive wooden table top.

For those who do not play a big role in mobility, and want to see a solid table in a rustic style in their home, we can offer an option from powerful boards. Such a table will undoubtedly become one of the main decorations in the living room of any country house.

Reasonable laziness, combined with a thirst for creativity, often leads to interesting discoveries. One of them is a table made from an old tire.

It is assembled very simply:

  • In the chipboard plate, two circles with a diameter of 3-4 cm less than the outer size of the tire are cut.
  • Four metal legs are screwed to the first circle.
  • The bottom and the lid are fastened with self-tapping screws to the sides of the wheel.
  • The sides and lid are decorated with jute rope.

Homemade construction from an old tire looks great

This creates an unusual coffee table, which, if necessary, can be used as a bench.

The idea of using "random" items to create home furnishings has proven to be extremely productive. She gave birth to numerous homemade crates and pallets. A little imagination and minimum costs are required in order to assemble a wooden coffee table based on four standard drawers.

The assembly algorithm looks like this: the boxes are placed on the edge, placing them in a circle one after the other. Having connected the structure with self-tapping screws, a shelf is made in its center. Here you can put a flower vase or sprinkle decor from river pebbles or shells. The work is completed by processing the wood with sandpaper, stain and varnish.

Natural wood does not need sophisticated decor. Using it for interior decoration, complement the decor with a simple table. To assemble it, you will need several planed bars and fence strips.

The base frame will look solid and solid when used in a contrasting color combination with the countertop. To do this, the bars must be tinted with a dark stain, leaving the lid in the natural color of pine logs.

Wood in furniture goes well with metal. You can verify this by making a loft-style coffee table with metal legs. Its lid is assembled from three pieces of grooved board "forty" and framed by a cornice strip.

To make the legs, you will need a welding machine, a piece of steel plate 1.5-2.0 mm thick and several scraps of smooth reinforcing steel with a diameter of 10-14 mm.

Having bent four rods according to a pattern, square pieces of plates (or thick carpentry corners as in the photo) are welded to them and alternately attached to a tabletop assembled from a grooved board. For final finishing, you need to grind, tint and varnish the lid, sides and paint the legs.

Instead of a rod for making a base, you can use a rectangular profile pipe. Welding two rectangles from it, cleaning the seams and covering the metal with silver paint, we get reliable supports for the tabletop, assembled from thick oak planks.

To increase stability, the metal sidewalls under the cover are connected with a section of a shaped pipe.

Coffee tables with a saw cut table top look very impressive. Finding this basic element is not difficult. On any sawmill you will be offered a "semi-finished product" of the required size. An electric planer and a belt sander will help you to bring it up to condition.

The legs of the table can be made from thick bars, or you can use a reinforcing bar for them. The contrast between the solid worktop and the lightweight metal base lends the structure a touch of exclusive design.

Another interesting option for combining materials is wood and glass. The table top can be oval or round, resting on a cruciform base of two bar frames.

A mobile coffee table made of a wooden pallet and covered with square glass looks stylish and modern.

Glass gives a rich appearance to the entire structure and closes the gaps between the pallet strips through which small objects can fall onto the floor.

Those who prioritize functionality will surely like the transforming coffee table. Through simple manipulations, it radically changes not only its height, but also its appearance.

When assembled, it is a regular magazine and newspaper holder. By raising the two sides with legs, we increase the height of the table and expand the surface of the tabletop to a "dining format".

The basis of another transforming system is two metal frame-pedestals. Each of them is hinged to the table top. In the assembled position, they lie horizontally, and when the cover is lifted, they rotate on the hinges and stand up vertically.

The unfolded height of the structure is 73 cm. This is quite enough to use the transformer as a computer desk.

Its lid consists of two plates that can be shifted horizontally. In this case, one plate pivots on a hinge around its axis. If necessary, such a transformer can be turned into a dining table for 4 persons in a matter of seconds.

Three-in-one transformer coffee table

Someone creates folding adaptive systems, and someone successfully experiments with ordinary plywood scraps. The search for new forms resulted in such an unusual coffee table.

We can only be surprised at the scrupulous accuracy of the calculation and its talented embodiment in a visible image.

In theory, everything looks simple: the base is sequentially glued from three dozen plywood frames. Each of them has a certain angle of inclination of the legs.

In practice, however, a 3D modeling program is needed to calculate all the elements of a plywood base.

The assembled plywood "cake" attracts the eye with an unusual futuristic shape. A glass lid crowns this piece of innovative joinery technology.

“We would have something simpler, but also beautiful,” the home master will say. Please, there is a table, no less elegant, but more affordable to manufacture. It consists of three packages of thin planed boards.

Numerous slots in the type-setting table top can be covered with a glass lid.

A few words must be said about joining glass to wood. The best solution is to use transparent "optical" glue. It is quite difficult to drill through thick glass at home without causing irreparable damage to it. Therefore, abandon the idea of mechanical fixation and let modern chemistry show its best qualities.

Self-production

Speaking about the material for the table top, we completely forgot about the wooden Euro lining. It is a great material at hand and is equally useful for making lids, sides, and legs.

Eurolining worktop - beautiful and reliable

The shape of the lining tabletop can be any. The cover, assembled from wooden planks, is cut with a jigsaw along a given contour.

To make a coffee table from lining, we need several tools:

  • screwdriver;
  • jigsaw;
  • belt sander;
  • hacksaw;
  • roulette.

The dimensions of the finished product and the design of the docking points should be thought out in advance and entered into the sketch drawing.

The table is finished in two stages. Before starting the assembly, grind the surface of the lid, bottom and legs with emery paper. After the completion of the work, the wood is covered with a toning stain and colorless varnish.

It is even easier to make a coffee table from chipboard. This material performs two functions at once: it forms a continuous surface and bears a load. We recommend using a veneer board, as paint and varnish cannot hide the texture of the wood chips on "bare" chipboard.

After completing the assembly, you need to close all the edges (countertops, bottom and legs) with plastic furniture tape, warming it up with a construction hairdryer before gluing.
