Self-finishing metal doors: useful tips. Sheathing materials, what is better to choose for the entrance group, door upholstery technology Interior decoration of the entrance metal door

Cloths may lose their attractive appearance over time, and the owners are seriously thinking about replacing them. But this is not always reasonable - in most cases, the situation is corrected by finishing wooden doors.

To return the canvas to a neat look, it is upholstered with different materials, decorated with fittings. It is quite possible to do this on your own. For sheathing wooden doors you will need:

  • scissors;
  • pencil;
  • roulette;
  • hammer;
  • construction stapler;
  • building and decorative nails;
  • mounting adhesive;
  • necessary accessories;
  • insulation;
  • pliers;
  • screwdriver;
  • ticks;
  • selected finishing material.

What materials are suitable for upholstery?

To update the door structure, spending a minimum of time and effort, you can simply paint the canvas in any color. Sheathing a wooden door is a more labor-intensive and time-consuming task.

Different materials are suitable for upholstery of wooden doors with your own hands.

  • Laminate represents boards for finishing, from the inside, laid with waterproof paper. The modern construction market offers many design options for this material: wood, stone, tile, etc. Thanks to this range, you can create a beautiful decorative design of the door in any interior. In addition, the laminate provides excellent heat and sound insulation. But due to the hygroscopicity of the material, it is used only for interior cladding.

  • Plastic- Polyvinyl chloride finish with the addition of chemicals that increase the resistance of the material to high temperatures, ultraviolet radiation and moisture. It is easy to install and maintain. Vinyl plastic is widely used for finishing - a durable, elastic material that is easily attached with glue to wood, concrete, metal. Usually products are not sheathed with plastic from the outside, it mainly serves for interior decoration.

  • If selected for upholstery, then experts advise sheathing the door with leatherette made on the basis of synthetic fabric. Such a material is elastic, stretches easily, does not crack even at high temperatures, has high strength, can be of various shades and is suitable for upholstery on both the inside and outside of the canvas.

  • Door trim MDF panels popular because of their resistance to moisture and mechanical damage. This is achieved by coating with a polyvinyl chloride film. MDF, you can finish the front door with your own hands.

  • A great solution would be to sheathe an old wooden door. clapboard. This material is a wooden slats of small thickness, equipped with special grooves for ease of attachment.

  • Marine plywood It looks like solid wood from the outside. It is treated with stain and covered with frost-resistant varnish, so it can be used to decorate entrance doors.

Preparatory work

  • Dismantling of locks, peephole, decor, handles.
  • Careful removal of the old coating. The main thing is not to damage the sash.
  • Removing the canvas from the hinges and laying it horizontally on a table or several stools.
  • Cutting material for finishing according to the parameters of the sash.

Leather upholstery

In the past, a leatherette-trimmed canvas was considered a luxury. Now it is already a more affordable decor option, and it is very popular. A neat appearance, good heat and sound insulation properties make leatherette an excellent solution for sheathing a door.

Wooden

Wooden doors can be finished both from the inside and from the outside. There are some differences in technology.

In the case of working with wooden products from the inside, they begin by determining the scheme for opening the door - inward or outward. This determines the size and location of the sealing beads.

Upholstery inside do-it-yourself leatherette doors step by step:

FROM outside the upholstery process is as follows:

  • The door is closed and 1 cm recede from the edge of the canvas.
  • On the bottom, just above the edge of the sash, a sealing roller is fixed.
  • The fabric is upholstered with insulation, starting at the top and descending evenly on both sides. It is important to prevent sagging of the material.
  • The last step is to cover the door with leatherette, securing the folded edges with nails. If desired, a pattern is formed with decorative fasteners.

metal

Facing metal doors with leatherette is a more complicated matter. Most modern manufacturers supply doors that already have interior trim. But some inexpensive models do not have such elements and require independent upholstery.

Scheme interior decoration metal door:

  • The steel sheet of the canvas must be overlaid around the perimeter with wooden slats, attach the foam and seal the cracks with mounting foam. Close the resulting layer with a sheet of plywood.
  • On the door, carefully pulling, impose a heater, fixing it with glue or staples.
  • Leatherette is cut to the size of the sash, leaving a margin for tucking.
  • The material is fixed from above, then, pulling, they fall along the edges.

If desired, a pattern is created on the canvas using decorative elements.

Scheme outer upholstery metal doors:

  • According to the size of the sash, a synthetic winterizer or foam rubber is cut, making it 8-10 mm smaller than the canvas.
  • Leatherette is cut according to the formula: the size of the insulation plus 6–7 cm.
  • Glue the insulation on the door. You need to wait a while for the material to adhere.
  • Attach a layer of leatherette, evenly stretching so that there is no sagging. The edges are folded over the ends of the canvas and fixed with glue.
  • Install the necessary fittings.

Clapboard lining

The lining is ideal for upholstery of wood and metal products, entrance and outdoor canvases. Reiki are easy to assemble due to the fact that they are equipped with special grooves.

Wooden

Independently and with a minimum of costs, you can sheathe a wooden door with clapboard. The technology is quite simple:

  • Prepare the door leaf for upholstery by removing it and removing the old covering.
  • Place horizontally.
  • Cut the lining to the desired size.
  • Attach the first rail with the finishing nail exactly along the edge of the canvas. Use a level to adjust.
  • The next panels are tightly joined to the previous ones and secured with nails.
  • Clean up ends when finished.
  • Treat the finished surface with varnish, wait until it dries, and install the fittings.

metal

This process is more complex. Preparation is the same as in the first case. Reiki are cut to the required size.

You can attach them to the door leaf in two ways:

  • use special fasteners (kleimers) to place the skin directly on the metal;
  • make a wooden frame from a narrow beam to the size of the door and attach the slats to it, joining them with each other and fixing them with nails. This option is well suited if additional door insulation is planned: the heat-insulating material is laid under the crate.

They finish the work by sanding the ends, varnishing and then installing the necessary fittings.

In the process of carrying out repair work in an apartment or a private house, it often becomes necessary to replace many coatings and systems. This includes windows and doors. After the installation of the front door is completed, an inaccurate opening remains with potholes in the partitions and a damaged coating. The finishing of these surfaces is carried out precisely in order to hide such working imperfections at the installation site of the front door. For such lining from the inside, a wide variety of materials are used, which you can see in the photo in this article. Moreover, today in the building materials market, each consumer can choose for himself exactly what is needed and suitable for the interior of the hallway.

Finishing materials

Well-executed finishing of the front door will add aesthetics, accuracy and completeness to the room. Today, many people are concerned about how to finish the front door with the highest quality. Which material, texture or color to choose?

The main task is to achieve such a result that would allow the front door from the side of the dwelling to fit as harmoniously and naturally as possible into the realized design idea of the hallway.

Before proceeding with the choice of material for finishing around the front door space, it is necessary to take into account a number of general requirements or wishes. For example, in a situation where the doors from the rooms lead to the hallway, it makes sense to make the front door a little different from the rest. After all, the front door is the main one.

If the hallway is not too spacious, or even cramped, you can consider the option of mirroring the front door. This option will not only create the illusion of increasing space, but also from an aesthetic point of view it will look very impressive. True, such a solution is not recommended to be implemented if there are small children in the home.

Also an important point when choosing the type of finishing of the front door is the need to carry out the insulation of the structure. It is better to lay the insulation on the inside, otherwise the material will not last too long. First of all, this rule applies to common staircases and private houses.

Most often, wood, natural leather or its substitutes, plastic panels, MDF are used as a material for finishing the inside of the front door. In addition, you can use self-adhesive film or paint.

In addition, we must not forget about the decoration of the doorway. Given the fact that residential premises are usually characterized by stability and constancy of internal temperatures, the front door can be lined with siding, plaster, decorative stone or clapboard.

Insulation and finishing of the door leaf

The first step is to prepare a heater, for example, foam. As a rule, the inner part of a metal door is equipped with stiffeners, forming a kind of cell. According to the size of these sections, it is necessary to cut out pieces of foam, the thickness of which will be about 30-40 mm.

The next step is to use a foam gun. It is necessary to apply a contour along the perimeter of each section, and two additional strips of the composition inside the recess. After that, the prepared piece of foam is glued. Identical operations should be performed with all cells in the door. It is important not to forget and leave a place for installing a door lock.

After that, it is necessary to prepare a place for finishing the inner surface of the door. For this purpose, a mounting plate is used. A sheet of plywood and self-tapping screws are installed in her pocket, with the help of which fastening to the door will take place. The bar must be fixed on three sides, with the exception of the upper part. This is where the outer upholstery will begin.

It should be emphasized that the plywood used must have moisture resistant properties. In addition, as it is installed, it is recommended to cover it with glossy paint in advance. Now you should take a sheet of plywood together and carefully, so as not to damage the foam, push it inside the installed mounting plate.

After that, it is necessary to smear the top of the plywood with prepared glue and install another part of the mounting plate on it. There is no need to fix it with screws.

On the resulting surface, you can stuff a layer of leatherette or another finish option.

Finishing the door portal

To minimize heat loss through the doorway, it is necessary to approach its sealing as responsibly as possible. The main role in achieving this result is played by the finishing of the slopes of the front door, which are to be faced after the completion of the main installation work.

There are several basic options for finishing the front door jambs. Among the main ones, plastering, the use of MDF panels, the installation of gypsum boards with subsequent painting, and the installation of a laminate should be highlighted. The first step is to level the slopes with plaster mortar or using drywall sheets. The first option is more laborious. For plastering slopes, it will be necessary to prepare a cement-sand mixture, and also use special paint corners for better leveling.

The space between the corners must be filled with mortar and gently smooth the surface with a spatula. After the plaster has dried, you can continue finishing the slopes with any material. In addition to the described method, it is possible to use slabs for cladding GKL. They must be pre-cut into pieces of the required size. To fix the GKL plates, a frame or frameless method is used. In the second case, an adhesive mixture is used. Let's take a closer look at some finishes.

Making the opening with plastic panels

Finishing the front door from the inside with plastic panels is especially popular among consumers. This is due to the affordable price and ease of installation of these structures. As a result of the implementation of such a technical solution, homeowners receive an impeccably even and outstanding coating that will add aesthetics to any interior.
The main advantages of plastic are simplicity and ease of installation, ease of maintenance, moisture resistance, resistance to different temperatures. In addition, plastic panels for door trim do not fade in the sun. Also, an important advantage of this solution is the absence of the need for preliminary preparatory work before installing the panels. The surface on which the panel will be laid does not need to be leveled.

Arrangement of the opening with a stone

The use of stone as a finishing material will not only add aesthetics to the hallway, but can make its appearance simply chic. Often, with this type of lining, artificial plates of small thickness are used. It is best to give preference to a stone no more than 4 mm thick.

For fixing stone slabs, a special composition. The use of a self-adhesive base will protect the material from kinks and cracks. The most popular solution for such a finish is to use a solid piece of stone. Such a cladding will look aesthetically pleasing, elegant, visually resembling a monolithic piece of stone. Such a door finish will look really beautiful with the corresponding decoration of the door portal.

Other options

It should be noted that not all consumers can afford finishing the space near the front door with decorative stone. This is a rather expensive material, so MDF panels or laminate can be used as an alternative. They are not worse than monolithic stone slabs, but they have a number of specific differences. The advantage of these materials is their availability and ease of use.

Laminate is a more practical option over MDF panels. This material is relatively inexpensive, beautiful and outwardly neat. Both laminate and MDF have a long service life, moisture resistance, and are also resistant to cleaners and disinfectants. To slightly improve the aesthetic characteristics of the inside of the front door, you can make a natural veneer over the MDF. This will add prestige and elegance to the appearance of the entire structure.

In a small hallway of an ordinary-sized apartment, the front door looks great, in the decoration of the space near which natural wood elements are used. And if the cladding pattern is combined with the ornament of the furniture installed in the hallway, then the interior of the room will become as harmonious as possible. A more expensive option is wood veneer.

Recently, a combination of different materials has been increasingly used for decoration. With this combination, it is important to pay attention to their compatibility, quality and reliable installation. To carry out the work, you will need certain tools and materials. First of all, it is polystyrene foam (polyurethane foam), mounting foam, a plywood sheet about 9 mm thick, a foam cutting knife, waterproof construction glue and a special mounting plate with self-tapping screws and a press washer.

Decorative trim is an indispensable option for the restoration of an old door. The durability, wear resistance of the door leaf is affected not only by production characteristics, but also by the quality of the lining. Facing panels, in addition to beauty, increase the performance of the canvas, increase the service life. This article details how to trim the front door.

Decorative trim is most relevant for metal doors, which are often installed at the entrance to an apartment or house. Such canvases are superior to analogues: their protection indicators and service life are higher. However, cold metal does not always harmonize with the warm colors of the hallway. To make the door look organic in the setting, it is sheathed on the inside. Old wooden, fiberboard and chipboard canvases can also be decorated.

To enhance the aesthetics, the doors are painted, pasted over with decorative films or tightened with leather. The most economical and energy-consuming way is sheathing with overlays made of plastic, wood, MDF and chipboard. The panels are easy to install, unpretentious in maintenance, durable. Many increase the protection and thermal conductivity of the door.

What materials can be used?

For sheathing, linings made of natural or artificial materials are used - these are wood, plastic, MDF, chipboard and PVC plates.

natural wood

Natural wood cladding is a premium method. Fragments or solid woods are used: beech, ash, oak for decoration of iron doors. The advantages of natural panels include aesthetics, but labor costs in processing and extraction explain the high cost.

Advantages of natural wood cladding:

  • the possibility of additional finishing and painting;
  • environmental friendliness, hypoallergenicity;
  • wide texture and pattern assortment;
  • frost resistance;
  • thermal insulation;
  • soundproofing;
  • compatibility with other materials;
  • service life of a sheathed door - 30-50 years;
  • chemical resistance.

Solid wood and fragments are easily restored. To increase moisture resistance, they are treated with protective coatings. Protection against microorganisms is provided by antiseptic impregnations. The natural origin of the material means the variability of its characteristics. The weight and density vary due to the hygroscopic nature of the wood, where swelling occurs even in rooms with low humidity.

MDF

Fibreboards are produced by pressing wood shavings under thermal action. For protection, they are treated with veneer, painted or laminated. Painted slabs are used in interior decoration, veneered - in exterior. Laminated products are universal, where in the ratio "price - quality" they have worthy performance characteristics.

Advantages:

  • simple installation;
  • environmental friendliness;
  • strength;
  • thermal insulation;
  • soundproofing;
  • unpretentiousness in care.

A wider range of textures and colors in relation to natural wood, but less resistance to chemical treatment. Abrasive cleaning is not allowed. Inexpensive panels have low moisture resistance. Not subject to fragmentary restoration after damage - dismantling is required.

Attention

Even MDF covered with PVC film is unstable to mechanical damage, ultraviolet radiation and temperature extremes. Recommended for interior doors.

Chipboard, plywood, OSB

During the temperature pressing of laminated boards, binder resins of non-mineral origin are used. Materials are sanded on both sides, veneered with phenol-formaldehyde glue. Marine plywood is treated with a frost-resistant varnish, which makes it suitable for outdoor use. A wide classification of chipboard, OSB and plywood allows you to choose the material for any premises and work.

Advantages:

  • do not deform;
  • affordable price;
  • stable workmanship;
  • low weight;
  • simple installation;
  • resistant to moisture (swelling - up to 10%);
  • strength due to the multilayer structure.

The heat and noise insulation performance of chipboard is higher than that of plywood, but the material is less moisture resistant and aesthetically pleasing. OSB at a low price and environmental friendliness has lower decorative parameters due to the pressing of large chips. Laminated boards are vapor-tight, resistant to microorganisms.

In case of non-compliance with environmental requirements during production, an increased emission of formaldehyde is observed. It is necessary to choose well-known and proven manufacturers.

Plastic lining

One-piece overlays made of composite plastic are used to finish the entrance doors. Due to the absence of a decorative layer, they are resistant to atmospheric phenomena: the coating does not crack, does not peel off.

Advantages:

  • moisture resistance;
  • long service life;
  • there are enhanced modifications to protect against pets;
  • affordable price;
  • a wide range of colors.

Among the shortcomings is the low representation on the market of finishing materials. Homogeneous texture limits design possibilities. Products of low strength in comparison with other materials.

Attention

Plastic pads do not lose their original appearance with regular care. They do not require the use of abrasives and are easy to clean.

PVC and fiberboard panels

A single decorative canvas is formed from PVC and fiberboard panels up to 50 cm wide. Possible sheathing is only with a uniform texture, but the problem is solved by installing decorative overlays. Experts are skeptical about this method of door design, but in practice they highlight its significant advantages:

  • affordable price;
  • simple installation;
  • service life of 10–20 years;
  • beautiful view;
  • shock resistance, wear resistance, moisture resistance of fiberboard;
  • PVC has absolute moisture resistance.

To clean, simply wipe with a damp cloth. Damaged fragments are easily replaced. The service life of fiberboard is less, but it is not subject to deformation. PVC panels are not impact resistant.

Do not use abrasives for cleaning. Burn out when exposed to direct sunlight.

Laminate

Floor coverings are initially prepared for high loads. Laminate finish will not suffer even from the claws of pets. Fragments are mounted through a thorn-groove with a longitudinal offset.

Advantages:

  • increased wear resistance in comparison with other materials;
  • resistance to temperature extremes;
  • easily restored with wax or valve markers;
  • service life - from 20 years;
  • a wide selection of colors, textures.

Cons - high price, susceptibility to moisture. Due to the narrow dimensional grid, it is difficult to calculate the amount of material needed, which leads to a large residue. For the same reason, fragments require trimming. Metal doors are sheathed after installing the gusset.

Laminate is not suitable for door trim on the street in private homes.

Coniferous lining

Unlike laminate, lining is more resistant to moisture, therefore it is suitable for interior work in rooms with high humidity. The canvas is formed from edged pine or spruce boards up to 20 mm thick. Mounted on a metal frame, so it is suitable for metal door trim.

Advantages:

  • coniferous smell;
  • can be dyed;
  • increases strength;
  • soundproofing;
  • low thermal conductivity;
  • unique design;
  • durability.

Attention

Due to the reduced refractoriness of the material, flame retardant treatment is required. To resist the development of pathogenic microflora, linden, larch are protected by antiseptics.

Required Tools

After selecting the material, consider the subtleties of its processing. For example, natural wood panels will require antiseptic impregnation, varnish or other protective coating. Necessary tools for paneling or slabs:

  • screwdriver, if self-tapping screws are used;
  • hammer if nails are used;
  • self-tapping screws, nails;
  • cross-shaped bits for a screwdriver;
  • drill for metal with a diameter of 3, 10 mm;
  • anti-corrosion primer;
  • clamps;
  • degreaser (white spirit);
  • medium grit sandpaper;
  • roulette, square;
  • brush, roller (for coloring);
  • marker, construction pencil.

If the products are fixed on an adhesive basis, then epoxy glue or liquid nails are recommended. If necessary, cutting parts will require scissors or a hacksaw. To dismantle the fittings, a screwdriver and pliers are required.

How to do the work with your own hands?

From the inside, the panels are often fixed to the frame, especially if insulation is used. Mounting on glue or self-tapping screws is relevant for exterior decoration.

  1. First remove the hardware.
  2. Metal sheets are sanded with sandpaper, degreased with white spirit, then treated with a primer layer.
  3. Dirt is removed from wooden doors, the surface is degreased, cracks are puttied.
  4. Self-tapping steps:
    1. remove the door, lay it horizontally;
    2. attach the lining to the door leaf;
    3. make markings for self-tapping screws - 3 vertically and 5-6 - on the sides;
    4. prepare the holes in the panel according to the finished markup;
    5. fix the panel with clamps;
    6. drill holes for self-tapping screws in the canvas through the markings on the panel;
    7. with a ten-millimeter drill, make recesses on the panel to drown the heads of the self-tapping screws;
    8. fix the panel;
    9. on the reverse side of the canvas, make markings for fittings;
    10. cut holes for the handle, peephole, lock using a drill or milling cutter;
    11. install fittings and plugs on self-tapping screws.

    Mounting on self-tapping screws in a hidden way is possible with a two-layer installation, when the panels are mounted on both sides of the canvas.

    Holes are drilled through the panel, the inner panel is attracted to the base with self-tapping screws. The outer plate hides the caps, and the heads of the hardware are closed with a sealant.

Both natural and artificial materials are used for door trim. They differ:

  • aesthetics;
  • operational characteristics;
  • availability;
  • service life.

When choosing a material, you need to take into account the purpose of the canvases, where only wear-resistant panels for decoration are suitable for entrance doors.

After the repair, many owners note that it is necessary to update some interior elements. Entrance doors often require updates. Some designs should simply be replaced, and some can be quite successfully given a new life. Thus, you will not only hide all existing surface defects, but also decorate your interior.

Internal lining

A variety of materials are used for the interior decoration of doors.

MDF

MDF board has become widespread due to its good performance, pleasant appearance and affordable price. This material is presented today in several versions:

  • Painted. It is applied to internal finishing of doors.
  • Veneered. Differs in the increased resistance to the atmospheric phenomena. For decoration, wood species such as oak, birch and more expensive options (beech, redwood, ash) are used.
  • Laminated. Differs in good moisture resistance and durability. The material is characterized by an inhomogeneous multilayer structure, where the upper layer is decorative, and the lower one is the substrate.

MDF has the following positive qualities:

  • easy to mount on the door;
  • has an environmentally friendly composition;
  • has good strength;
  • enhances thermal insulation;
  • improves sound insulation;
  • has a wide selection of different textures and colors of the front surface;
  • easy to care for.

The negative aspects of the material include:

  • easily damaged by abrasive processing;
  • poor moisture resistance;
  • the price is above average.

To independently trim the door with MDF panels, you first need:

  • make accurate measurements of the dimensions of the door;
  • buy a panel and immediately cut it to the size of the door in the store, if the company provides such a service, or take it to a workshop specializing in such work.

The process of finishing doors with MDF panels consists of the following steps:

  • The door is removed from the hinges, the fittings are removed.
  • Cleaning the work surface from the previous finish, removing dust and small pieces of matter, degreasing.
  • A primer is applied to increase the bonding strength between the door, the adhesive and the finish sheet.
  • Glue is applied along the edge of the entire door and in the middle.
  • The panel is superimposed and evenly pressed. To fix the sheet so that it does not move out, you can use masking tape that does not leave marks. The door is left for a while for the glue to dry.
  • With double-sided finishing with MDF panels, the operation is repeated similarly for the second side.
  • After the glue dries, the door is installed back on the hinges, the fittings are returned to their place.

Laminate

For finishing doors, an ordinary floor laminate is used. Such a coating is similar in quality to MDF, but is produced using a different technology and has a different composition.

The structure of the laminate board is as follows:

  • wood base;
  • wood fiber board;
  • several layers of special paper with a printed pattern;
  • protective film.

The positive qualities of the laminate include:

  • resistance to temperature changes;
  • durability;
  • ease of use;
  • aesthetic look.

The disadvantages include high cost.

The process of facing with a laminate occurs in the following order:

  • With the door removed, all fittings are removed.
  • A frame is made from wooden slats with a section of 20x20 or 30x30 mm, the structure is attached to the door leaf with the help of “liquid nails”.
  • The slats around the perimeter will be visible, so it is better to choose them to match the color of the laminate or paint them in the same color.
  • The laminate is interconnected so as to create a single plane that will be attached to the door.
  • The frame of the rails is superimposed on the laminate shield, the points of contact with the rails are marked.
  • The excess of the shield protruding beyond the dimensions of the door is sawn off, holes are cut out for the peephole, the handle and the lock slot.
  • A rack frame is mounted on the door, voids can be filled with heat and / or sound insulating materials, for example, foam plastic or mineral wool.
  • The laminate board is smeared with glue according to the marking and pressed against the rack frame, while the glue dries, a pressing load should lie on top, distributed along the width so as not to push through the laminate.
  • After the glue dries, the fittings are mounted in place, the door is hung on the hinges.

Lining, siding

Finishing material, made from various types of wood or plastic grades, is available in the form of lamellae. Lining is similar in quality to wood, but more affordable financially.

The positive qualities of lining include:

  • good appearance;
  • excellent heat and noise insulation;
  • strength, especially for oak, larch and other durable species.
  • low moisture resistance, can be improved by impregnation with special additives;
  • good combustibility, can also be reduced by impregnation.

Facing with clapboard occurs according to the same plan as with laminate. There is a variant of drawing up a decorative pattern from a lining of a small size and different colors. In this case, the assembled shield is attached to a thin sheet of OSB, and the sheet is attached to a frame of rails.

Faux leather

A material called "viniliskin" is used, which replaced leatherette in this niche, due to its higher performance and protective properties. It has an improved appearance, very similar to genuine leather.

The positive aspects of vinyl leather include the following characteristics:

  • relatively inexpensive material;
  • high moisture resistance;
  • resistance to temperature fluctuations;
  • pleasant, aesthetic appearance of the texture;
  • high elasticity;
  • convenient and undemanding material in operation;
  • good wear resistance;
  • improves noise and heat insulation of the door;
  • large selection of textures and colors.

The negative points include low strength; due to external attractiveness for pets, it gives a quick loss of aesthetic qualities.

Vinyl leather door trim consists of the following steps:

  • The previous finish is removed, for example with a spatula or other tool, the surface is cleaned.
  • Glue is applied along the perimeter and in separate, evenly distributed sections over the entire plane.
  • Insulation is applied (almost mandatory if the door is iron), fixed until the glue dries, after which the excess insulation is cut off.
  • Vinyl leather is cut with a margin: 12 cm wider than the dimensions of the door.
  • Glue is applied around the perimeter, but from the inside, so that the outside of the door is completely covered with a vinyl-leather sheet, and the elongated edges along the width (+12 cm) are wrapped inside.
  • When applying the material, you need to start from the top from the center of the door and move down and to the edges, leveling the “waves” that appear.
  • The lower part of the door is glued at the end.
  • After the glue dries, the excess vinyl leather is cut off, holes are cut in the canvas for the peephole, the handle and the lock slot.

Coloring

A good option for a quick and inexpensive door decoration. Improves appearance and does not require special skills. The following types of paint are used for painting doors:

  • Nitroenamel. The positive aspects of this paint are corrosion protection and aesthetic shiny color. The disadvantages include fragility, poor resistance to temperature fluctuations, strong odor. Poorly suited for painting doors directly to the street, for example, in a private house.
  • Alkyd enamel. Excellent paint based on alkyd resins with a large number of positive qualities, such as high resistance to aggressive environments, resistance to mechanical stress. Service life about 4 years, quickly dries, resistance to fading.
  • Acrylic paint. It has the same positive properties as alkyd enamel, in addition, it does not contain toxic substances. Very resistant to aggressive environments.
  • Powder paint. A premium option with excellent performance and aesthetic qualities, the only negative: staining is done only in special workshops. High resistance to any sources of negative impact.

The positive aspects of staining include:

  • ease of finishing work;
  • low price;
  • any colors and finishes.

Relative disadvantages include:

  • do not enhance sound insulation in comparison with MDF, laminate, lining, vinyl leather;
  • do not increase thermal insulation;
  • Some types of paints contain toxic substances.

The negative aspects include:

  • high price, varies greatly depending on the type of wood, especially its rarity;
  • good flammability, can be reduced by special impregnation;
  • a significant increase in weight, replacement of loops is possible;
  • poor moisture resistance, can be increased by appropriate impregnation.

To properly paint the door, you need to do the following:

  • thoroughly clean the surface of the door from the old finish with a spatula or other suitable tool;
  • wipe dust, remove any pieces of matter, degrease;
  • apply a primer;
  • gently and in small portions apply paint with a roller or brush layer by layer, do not paint everything in one go;
  • it is possible to overlay a decorative template or stencil to create a unique pattern using different colors.

pasting

The easiest option to refresh the appearance of the door is a self-adhesive film. Does not add any operational pros or cons to the door. Before gluing, the surface must be thoroughly cleaned and degreased. If there are dents, chips, tubercles, then they need to be sanded or puttied. It is more convenient and better to glue from top to bottom, slowly, so that “waves” do not turn out.

  • isolon of sufficient thickness;
  • polyurethane foam and other heaters.

The foam insulation scheme consists in the phased filling of cavities, namely:

  • we prepare the material by cutting it into pieces corresponding to the size of the intercostal cells;
  • mounting foam is applied to the metal ribs at the joints with the insulation around the entire perimeter and on the inner plane of the door in 2-3 strips;
  • a piece of foam is carefully inserted into the cavity and pressed down;
  • the process is repeated with all cells in the same way, except for the one where the door lock is installed, for it you need to cut the corresponding opening in the sheet, you should not completely skip the cell, this will create a large cold bridge.

When choosing a material, it is necessary to know where the door is installed, more precisely, whether its outer side will go out into the street or into the entrance, and also take into account the wishes of the customer and his financial capabilities.

Finishing steel doors with natural valuable wood is done manually, which is one of the factors affecting its cost. As a decoration, various carved patterns, frescoes and ornaments can be applied to the wooden finish of the canvas.

Laminate today is almost the most popular material used in the exterior decoration of steel doors, but it can also be used to decorate their inner surface. Laminate has a beautiful appearance, pleasant texture and fairly inexpensive cost. In addition, it is resistant to dirt and electrostatic. Exterior door trim with laminate will last for many years.

MDF panels, used for finishing steel entrance doors, perfectly imitate natural wood and have a huge palette of colors and shades. And this type of finishing of steel doors increases the heat, sound and noise insulation of the room.

The use of kozhvinil as a finishing material necessarily involves the installation of additional insulation, which significantly increases the noise and heat insulation of the door.

And the variety of shades of this film and the pattern applied to it allows you to imitate a natural tree of valuable species, an artificial finishing stone. In addition, it is not susceptible to ultraviolet radiation, moisture resistant and has a high fire safety.
