Modern bathroom tile design. Tiling options in the bathroom. Tile layout schemes

Most often, the bathroom is tiled. This material is durable, hygienic and easy to clean. But the cost of such repairs is considerable, therefore they are trying to arrange everything so that the bathroom looks the best way over a long period of time. To solve this problem, they carefully choose a collection, select colors, a layout method. About what options for laying tiles in the bathroom exist, how they are perceived - in the article.

General principles and rules

Everyone knows that light walls visually make the room more spacious. No one is going to argue with this and this fact is taken into account when choosing options for laying tiles in the bathroom. But there are a few more interesting points, the knowledge of which will help to avoid mistakes when drawing up a layout and selecting a tile color, its location, grout color.

Vertical and horizontal layout

Recently, rectangular tiles are more often laid on the walls. In this case, the first thing to decide with is to place tiles horizontally or vertically on the walls. It is believed that the horizontal layout visually makes the room wider, and the vertical one - higher. In fact, on colored, bright tiles, the seams between which are filled with grout of the same or similar color, the difference is very small (in the photo there are a couple of pictures below). In this case, the direction of styling has almost no effect on perception. In this case, you can choose the options for laying tiles in the bathroom based only on your preferences.

This effect is more pronounced when using light tiles with a contrasting grout (top pictures). In this case, the gaze "slides" along the seams, creating the desired visual changes. In this case, the vertical or horizontal layout really affects our perception.

Guide strips

To expand the room or raise the ceiling, when choosing a layout, make vertical or horizontal "guides". These are stripes of tiles of a different color, along which the eye glides. These stripes change the visual perception of the size of the room.

A lighter horizontal strip, which runs along the perimeter of the room approximately in the middle of the height, visually significantly expands the space. If you add a dark stripe to light walls, no effect is observed. Rather, the room will look at its "own" volume, as the dark stripe neutralizes the visual increase in space due to light colors in the decoration.

If necessary, make the ceiling visually higher, with a vertical layout, you can lay out a strip of lighter tiles on one of the walls (preferably opposite the entrance). Even with bright or dark tiles and matching grout, the ceiling will "rise". If, on this wall, you use a tile of a lighter tone, and even with a contrasting grout and a vertical strip of tiles with an ornament, the effect will be even more pronounced (in the picture below on the right).

Border

Another way to make the room taller is to place decorative curb tiles closer to the ceiling. Being high, they attract attention, while the room appears taller. The border does not have to be done around the perimeter. It is enough to make one wall of a different light shade, place a border at the top. Moreover, this contrasting wall can be darker or lighter.

All these techniques are simple to implement, but they help to correctly draw up a tile layout. To visualize what you get, you can use special programs.

Examples of tile layout

In addition to the above examples of layouts, there are tile laying options that can be considered classics, others, on the contrary, have appeared quite recently and, although they often go against many recommendations, they look very good.

Darker bottom

This technique belongs to the classics: the lower third of the wall is made a darker color, the upper one - a few tones lighter. This method of laying ceramic tiles, to put it mildly, is not at the peak of popularity. It was popular about a decade ago. But there are several tricks that give the classics a modern sound.

With this method of laying the tiles, the room seems spacious, since most of the walls are decorated in light shades. In this case, the tiles on the floor are chosen in the same color as the tiles on the lower part of the wall. If you can't find exactly the same one, they are looking for a very close one in texture and color. In its "pure" form, this method of laying tiles does not look very modern.

To make this bathroom tile look more modern, you can add vertical or horizontal stripes that break up the monotonous decor. Many collections offer not only darker and lighter tile options, but also decor of different sizes, from which stripes of different widths are formed.

More often they combine not two, but three types of tiles: two monochromatic and a decor that combines both primary colors. Decorative elements can be of different widths. Then they can be used to make strips or columns of different widths. So that the upper part is not so monotonous and boring, thin stripes of the same color as the lower part of the wall are added, and a vegetable or floral border is added below.

Most factories produce collections in which there are two basic tile colors - darker and lighter - and a set of decorative elements. Such collections are usually not cheap, but it is easier to compose a competent composition of them, and they are suitable in size, so there will be no problems with styling and fitting.

Accent wall

If the division of the walls by height does not appeal to you, but the monochromatic design inspires discouragement, you can consider the option with an accent wall. Most often, it is decorated with tiles of the same color, but in a different shade - several tones lighter or darker than the main one.

In this case, not one wall is trimmed with brown tiles, but it also enters a part of the neighboring one. This technique is suitable for narrow, long rooms - it visually makes the room look more like a square.

The accent wall does not need to be the same size tiles. One wall trimmed with mosaics or small tiles looks great.

The mosaic looks great both on its own and in combination with tiles of different formats - square, rectangular, large and medium. It is used for finishing curved surfaces - due to its structure, it fits even columns with a small radius.

Floral motives

Recent design trends have led to the fact that most bathroom tiles are made in solid colors. Many collections are distinguished by interesting textures, but they are made in the form of monochromatic fragments. Not everyone likes this design - the interior is too "cold". You can add fantasy using tiles with flowers or butterflies, plant or geometric motifs.

But with this type of decor you need to be careful: it is too easy to "overdo", especially in a small volume. But even a few single fragments do not look good either. So it is advisable to work with floral decor in programs that give a three-dimensional picture - it will be easier to imagine what you actually get.

Laying tiles on the floor

In addition, in order to choose options for laying tiles on the walls in the bathroom, you need to decide how to decorate the floor.

When using a square tile, it is usually laid in the form of a checkerboard (checker pattern), a 1/2 tile offset method can be used. There are two directions of installation - parallel to the walls and diagonally.

If a rectangular tile is selected, there are more layout options - with an offset (deck, braid, herringbone).

There are also options for combining rectangular and square tiles - a maze, if methods using fragments of different sizes.

It makes sense to implement all more or less complex schemes in large rooms - here unusual compositions can be appreciated. In small bathrooms, the simplest schemes are most often chosen - usually only a few tiles fit, so there is simply no point in complicating the work.

More options

In the bathroom, decorative tiles are often used as the most practical, economical, inexpensive material with a huge selection of colors, textures and shapes. It can be used both on the floor and for wall decoration. With this finishing material, you can create any design, depending on the style that you want to implement.

Today, there is a tile layout in the bathroom in a wide variety of options. Experienced craftsmen know many ways. But most often 3-4 are used. In the article, we will figure out what are the ways to lay out tiles in the bathroom, what are their advantages and weaknesses, what design they allow for.

Pros of using tiles in the bathroom

Why do most bathroom owners prefer to decorate these rooms with ceramic tiles:

 • The material is very practical. Horizontal and vertical tiles are moisture resistant, long lasting, easy to clean.
 • A large selection of colors, sizes, textures allows you to experiment with design, finding the right combination of shades, to implement any decor ideas, even in a small bathroom. For example, a black and white chess board design is very popular.
 • Many options for the layout of tiles make it possible to combine different colors, thus achieving individuality of the room, making it an original, author's work. There is an individual layout scheme for each interior in the bathroom.

Options

What are the most popular layouts of tile and ceramic material in the bathroom on the floor and walls today:

Standard no offset

This is the most popular layout plan. In Soviet times, all bathrooms in new buildings were decorated in this way, so for many, this layout causes an instinctive visual rejection. Her example in that performance can be observed to this day in the apartments of the elderly. However, if it is carried out using large tiles, then the standard layout without displacement looks quite stylish and original.

Diamond laying

Or diagonal. Also a very common layout option. Features:

 • Creates a very interesting visual effect, looks stylish. With its help, the most original and stylish designs are obtained. Gives the room depth, design - sharpness.
 • A rather laborious option, therefore, only an experienced master finisher can carry out such a layout. Requires careful calculations and accurate cutting of the material. In terms of labor costs, it is comparable to laying a mosaic.

Wall panel

This scheme is a classic of the genre, when the lower third of the wall is laid out with dark tiles, and the upper two-thirds are lighter. The junction of tiles of different colors is usually still decorated with a contrasting border to match, it is also possible from a mosaic. Often this way of decorating bathrooms can be seen, as an example, in various public institutions. These methods can be used for your own bathroom, but it gives the bathroom a little rigor and formality.

Features and rules:

 • This layout design makes the room lower while expanding it. The floor plan should be carefully examined.
 • At the same time, the floor can either coincide with the walls, or be completely contrasting with them. Each design is interesting in its own way.
 • In some variations, you can see a combination of a light bottom and a dark top. However, this layout of tiles in the bathroom lowers the level of the ceiling, so it is suitable for narrow and high rooms. And in most of our standard apartments, small and not too high bathrooms are still more common.
 • The curb on the walls of the bathroom can be made as a narrow strip, or as a fairly wide independent section, tiled in several rows. In addition, there may well be several of these strips, especially if they are narrow. Just do not forget that each of them will make the room lower a little more.

With a border

In this version of the layout, the tiles that are laid out on the floor continue on the wall. But not completely on the entire wall, but 2-3 rows above the floor. Above, it is desirable to make a tile of a different shade, most often a lighter one. Such a layout plan will make the design of the room lower and wider.

Fragments with emphasis

A very popular layout plan today. But these options for laying out tiles in the bathroom are only suitable for a decent-sized room. In a small room, contrasting accents can create a visual imbalance that looks disharmonious.

 • If you decide to choose such a bathroom tile layout project, then you should know that you do not need to focus on more than 2-3 parts of the bathroom. A perfect example of a layout where the emphasis is on the washbasin, heated towel rail and shower area. Or in another similar version.
 • If you do not want to increase the height of the ceiling, then you should not start the accent section directly from the floor, but it is better to do it at some distance. It is also not necessary in this case to bring the accent to the ceiling.
 • You can make accents using mosaics.
 • On the floor, this layout plan does not apply. Accents on the floor look ridiculous and inappropriate.

Equality of colors

In this case, several colors are taken - contrasting or similar, usually 2-3 shades and they are used to decorate the bathroom walls. In this case, the colors should not be mixed. One wall is laid out in one color, the second in another, etc. It is imperative to choose a harmonious combination of colors. Features:

 • Thus, you can visually clearly divide the functional areas in the bathroom. For example, highlight the area near the washbasin in red, and trim the area near the shower room with black tiles. The layout can be both horizontal and vertical.
 • The floors in this case are finished with tiles of the same colors, but at the same time they can be mixed. For example, it would be great to use a checkerboard layout for the floor.
 • This design does not look good in a small bathroom, as it will visually make the room narrow and small.

The appearance of the bathroom is ensured not only by the beautiful modern furnishings, but also by the choice of tiles and tiles.

A variety of types of this material, the ability to choose different methods of installation allow you to give the room a true appeal and uniqueness.

Advantages and disadvantages of tiles

Tiles are rectangular or square plates that are made from clay with sand and minerals, followed by firing. From above, they are covered with a special composition - glaze.

Such cladding material has various sizes and colors.

You can choose a small-sized tile with a side length of no more than 5 cm or choose larger-scale options 40x60 cm.

The main advantages of tiles include ...

Moisture resistance, thanks to which walls and other structures will be protected from destruction and mold formation. That is why it is recommended to take tiles with less porosity.

Hygiene - the plates do not require serious care and cleaning, but it is simply necessary to treat them with antiseptic agents and regularly wash them. Therefore, it is advisable to choose a material that will be resistant to chemical attack (type "AA").

Resistance to mechanical stress - the tile should not only be aesthetically attractive throughout its entire service life, but also be protected from abrasion.

The bathroom can be tiled using PEI II grade plates. But it must be remembered that different options are used for walls and floors, depending on the strength and resistance to mechanical abrasion.

Reduced electrical conductivity without static build-up.

Natural origin and environmental friendliness.

A variety of designs.

At the same time, there are some features that you should consider when choosing this material for your bathroom:

 • so that the tiles are laid aesthetically and reliably, it is advisable to entrust the installation to experienced specialists;
 • the price of the material and the cost of work are quite high;
 • the need to process the seams between the plates.

What type of styling should you choose?

To create an original atmosphere in the bathroom, you can choose various types of tile installation:

Laying a seam into a seam is a fairly simple option that allows you to visually raise the ceilings if you mount the rectangular plates vertically. And the horizontal direction visually expands the bathroom.

The diagonal version at an angle of 45 degrees requires the involvement of specialists. By placing the tiles in this direction, you can hide the unevenness in the surface.

The checkerboard pattern is original, but it requires square tiles in two different colors. It is possible to place such tiles, both at the seams and diagonally.

Mosaic is a laborious way of arranging any bathroom surface using plates assembled from small pieces of ceramic.

To separate tiles of different colors, decor can be used - plates with a picture or ornament.

Color variety and style

A classic option for bathroom design is the use of white tiles, which can be visually separated with bright decor, borders or inserts.

Black is not very popular as it creates a somewhat gloomy, albeit stylish background. With a checkerboard style, it can contrast well with the white version.

Red will give you an original look, but due to its aggressiveness, it can reduce room comfort. It is recommended not to tile more than one bathroom wall with such tiles.

Green shades, due to their cheerfulness, can give the room originality and tranquility.

Designers advise to combine the colors of the tiles.

In addition to the classic chess version, combinations of blue and yellow tiles, tiles of red, black colors with the addition of white plates are popular. Blue and white cladding combinations also look good.

Features of the choice of tiles

The main factors to consider when choosing are the price and taste of the apartment owners. But the size of the bathroom also plays an important role.

Large rectangles can only be used for larger rooms. But if your bathroom is small or has a large number of curved surfaces, then it is better to stay on medium-sized tiles or mosaics.

After all, when you buy large plates with a pattern, you will have to cut them, and this will lead to a violation of the integrity of the pattern. To visually expand a small bathroom, buy a glossy version.

When buying, you should carefully consider the following points:

 • there should be no damage on the surface, even small ones, uneven coloring or mismatch along the lines of the drawings;
 • smooth tiles should be even, without the formation of gaps between the two plates;
 • the corners of the plates must be straight and the dimensions according to the marking.

How to calculate the number of tiles?

To solve this problem, you can use the services of specialists, calculate it manually or on an online calculator on the Internet. It is necessary to take into account the planned design, the method of installation, color characteristics, the presence of borders and decor.

For manual calculation, you need to do the following calculations:

 • measure the length and width of all surfaces, subtracting the area of doors or windows;
 • calculate the surface area;
 • determine the number of solid plates per 1 sq. m;
 • add 10% to increase the amount for pruning, damage or repair.

Tile care

The bathroom is cleaned with soapy water. It is recommended to use a warm solution for washing, and it must be applied from the bottom up.

Before cleaning, you can leave the hot water running in the bathroom for a few minutes. Steam generated on the surface helps to clean them better. Wall wiping is done from top to bottom.

For a more thorough cleaning, you can use ammonia or dissolved vinegar in a volume of 200 ml per 1 liter of water.

Seams and tiles can also be treated with antibacterial agents to remove mold.

The floor is first cleaned with a vacuum cleaner, and then it must be washed with a soft cloth.

Choosing the right material for the style that best suits your bathroom will help you create an original look. But for this, it is necessary to make a qualified laying of the tile, and during operation, regularly take care of the surfaces.

A bathroom is an intimate room, as a result of which it must have certain characteristics: simplicity, originality and, most importantly, convenience. The most important components of these qualities are floor and wall finishing. There are many options here, however, the tile finishing option has become the most proven one.

Tile characteristics

Having decided on the choice of finishing the bathroom, when buying a tile, you should consider the characteristics:

 • technical standards (here we mean a class of wear resistance from 1 to 5, and for bathrooms you should stay no lower than the 3rd class);
 • the purpose of the tile;
 • coverage parameters.

Tile types by purpose

In a broad sense, tiles are used for walls or floors, but in some cases the task of choosing tiles for steps and ceilings appears. Yet, according to their characteristics, only two types stand out - for walls and floors. Wall tiles are less resistant to chemicals and abrasion of the surface layer, they also have a fairly high level of moisture absorption - up to 20%. The coating of this type of tile can be in the form of glaze, matte, embossed and imitation of other materials.

Floor tiles, firstly, are stronger than wall tiles; secondly, it has a low level of moisture absorption - up to 5-6%; thirdly, the surface of the tiles is always made in a matte anti-slip version.

Materials

Depending on the materials used for the production of tiles, 4 types of tiles can be distinguished:

- ceramic tile. The cheapest, but this does not mean that its appearance has any flaws. Simply by its technical characteristics, it can be inferior to other types of materials;

- porcelain stoneware. Material similar to natural stone, but less prone to breaking and splitting. Its composition is close to porcelain. Differs in moisture resistance close to zero, is not afraid of frost and sudden temperature changes. Most often used for flooring;

- a natural stone. With the development of technologies for processing building materials, this type of tile has become more in demand due to a decrease in price. A pure natural material, however, inferior in wear resistance to porcelain stoneware. It is also more susceptible to the development of various bacteria on the surface;

- glass tiles. The most expensive pleasure from the presented range, capable of embodying the wildest fantasies in the interior of the bathroom. This type of tile can be used not only for walls and floors, but also for decoration.

Color palette

When choosing the colors of the tiles for the bathroom, there is basically one important point to consider - the lighting of the room. The darker the room will be, the lighter tiles you need to pick up. Designers identify several of the most successful color palettes for the bathroom:

White and black tones

This choice is for connoisseurs of style. These colors are always fashionable - they are classics. When combined with pure white and black with any accent, you can create a pleasant sense of sophistication in design. However, it must be borne in mind that white can cause a feeling of coldness and lack of comfort, which is why special attention should be paid to accent walls. In addition, plain tiles should be cleaned (wash, wipe) quite often, since even the smallest dirt, soap spots or streaks are visible on it.

Blue and green tones

These colors are leaders in bathroom design. Blue is the color of water and is perfect for a bathroom like no other. Green - does not irritate, soothes and harmonizes the internal state. However, here one should not forget about the accent: various fish, shells or boats in blue design or bright frogs in green will add taste to the overall design of the room.

Successful alternative color palettes

Floral tones will look pretty aesthetically pleasing. Purple or peach palette, pink palette - for young girls, red tones - for confident adult women and men. If you are constantly freezing, then yellow is the best choice. It is the color of warmth, summer and sun. In such a room you will not freeze even on a frosty winter day.

Tile size and shape

Despite the huge variety of color style options and materials for tiles, the choice of tile size and shape is not the last place in the decoration. According to the size classification, standard tiles, large, small and mosaics can be distinguished.

The size of a standard tile is 20 by 30 cm, therefore, the one that is larger than this size is large, and the smaller one is small. Also, a mosaic is distinguished, which is in the size of a square with a facet of 2-3 cm.

Finishing nuances

For finishing the bathroom, the most optimal choice will be the choice of medium-sized tiles - it will not seem too bulky, and on the other hand, there will not be a lot of distracting joints.

The bathroom should be comfortable, warm and cozy, so more attention should be paid to light, warm colors when choosing colors. To visually enlarge a small room, it is recommended to use tiles with a reflective glazed surface or mirror tiles.

An important point when laying tiles is its orientation: to visually increase the height of the room, you need to focus on the vertical installation option. It is more profitable to lay the floors diagonally to increase the space.

Zoning

To give originality to the lining of the room, you can use some kind of zoning or covering certain parts of the room with tiles. There are three options depending on the area to be covered:

 • tiling the entire room;
 • facing up to a certain point. In order to save money, some apartment owners tile the room half the height;
 • finishing of contact areas. For example, areas above the sink or bath.

It should be noted that in the conditions of small, compact rooms, only the first two options are suitable for decoration, since when using the third option, individual fragments can visually merge and a "heap effect" will develop. For spacious rooms, any of the three options are suitable.

Classic bathroom

The choice of the classic style shows the aristocracy of the landlord. To give the style of classicism in the interior of the bathroom, it is not enough to design the walls with tiles - here you need a combination with marble and onyx. An important point will be the presence of antique furniture, combined with tiles. Particular attention must be paid to the little things, using the same tiles on the border with small details or decor in the form of bronze elements. You need to understand that this style is suitable exclusively for spacious high rooms.

Minimalism style

The very name of the style suggests that everything in this room should be used to a minimum. In the decoration of walls, ceilings and floors, no more than 2-3 colors should be used, and in the same tone. There should be a minimum of furniture, so the walls should be finished perfectly, simply and at the same time original. As a result of applying this style, additional territory will be freed up in the room, the room will become more spacious and comfortable.

Country style

Recently, more and more homeowners prefer country-style interior design. This style combines the use of natural materials (or imitations), and natural colors. The tiles can be matched to wood or stone. Better to stay on brown, coffee, beige and green shades. Particular attention should be paid to accessories that must be combined with the decoration of walls and ceilings.

Decorating a small bathroom

The main factor when designing a small room is to visually increase the space. For this, there are certain techniques developed by designers and their experience:

 • colors in the design should be light colors;
 • for a rectangular room, the tile size is better to select no more than 20x30 cm, for square rooms - 20x20 cm;
 • to visually increase the height, the tiles must be laid vertically, to increase the width - horizontally;
 • it is not recommended to use embossed tiles - it visually reduces the space;
 • the surface of the tile should be glossy, glazed or glassy, but in no case matte. Gloss will visually enlarge the room, matte surface will reduce it.

Tiles in a spacious bathroom

If you are the owner of a large bathroom, then the restrictions applied to the design of small rooms are automatically discarded and you are free in your decisions and design delights. Here the play of colors, shapes, materials and accent elements is limited only by your imagination. However, in this case, you can overdo it and the room will become too colorful, and the decoration itself will "crush", as a result, the room will become uncomfortable, and one of the determining factors for a successful bathroom design is convenience, coziness and comfort.

As a result of applying the above tips and tricks for decorating a bathroom, you can create a cozy comfortable environment in your room, which will be distinguished by the originality of the design and the functional convenience of each element, which are the most important components in the interior design process.

Bathroom tiles: design ideas

Pictured: Bathroom design with beige and brown tiles

Tiling a bathroom helps achieve two main goals: to give the space an aesthetic appearance and to protect the floor and walls from moisture. Today, there is just a huge selection of tiles on the market of finishing materials. The cladding options offered by manufacturers differ from each other not only in color solution and design, but also in manufacturing technology. Bikottura, monocottura, mosaic, porcelain stoneware, clinker, metlakh, glass and mirror tiles - all these types of tiles you can find on the market today. Each of these types of tiles has its own characteristics. So, monocottura, in contrast to bicottura, is more durable, and therefore it is often used in floor decoration. Mosaics are usually used to decorate some details of the furnishings: countertops, furniture aprons.

In today's review, we want to bring to your attention a selection of photos of bathroom interiors with tiles. All design projects were developed by the specialists of the Fundament Group of Companies.

Bathroom color palette

If you look at the photos of recent years, you can see the prevalence of such a modern idea of design and decoration of bathrooms as the use of light beige tiles. This trend is not accidental. Beige, being as close to skin tone as possible, is very harmonious in rooms for taking water treatments. In addition to light-colored tiles, coffee-colored tiles are also popular. And by mixing light colors with black or dark blue, interior designers manage to create contrasts. To make the monochrome interior seem more attractive, experts combine tiles with different patterns and textures in one room.

1.Blue and white monochrome

In the photo: Bathroom design with tiles

The interior of this bathroom, with its curly forging in the finish of the sink stand and the shelving unit, is imbued with Provencal charm. And we owe this effect not only to the mirror in a fancy baguette, but also to the tile itself. The bathroom design and decoration uses blue and white striped tiles. The upper part of the room is faced with light polka-dot tiles, which disguises the tile texture with cozy chintz or cute paper wallpapers. The interior is close to the classic "chess" monochrome. Only instead of black, a dark blue scale is used here.

2. Shades of cappuccino in the lining

Pictured: Bathroom design in shades of cappuccino

Shades of cappuccino, like the entire coffee range, are an excellent solution for renovating and decorating a bathroom. After all, this range is associated with the morning, and therefore a contrasting shower surrounded by such shades will be the best start to the day. In the decoration of the bathroom in the photo above, large tiles with a floral pattern are combined with the now popular mosaic tiles. In the shower area, we can also observe a solid color cladding. However, all tiles used are in the same color, which creates a monochrome space.

3. Matte gray shades in the bathroom

In the photo: Finishing the bathroom with matte gray tiles

Matte blue-gray tiles in bathroom finishes will look spectacular in certain lighting conditions. For example, in the example shown in the photo above, point ceiling lights give the walls a certain volume, emphasizing their texture. Embossed tiles are used in the decoration of the mirror and sink area to help outline the boundaries of the functional area.

4. Tiles in shades of champagne

In the photo: Decorating the bathroom with light tiles

Decorating a bathroom with champagne-colored tiles is often used in design projects of apartments and houses in the spirit of neoclassicism or art deco style. If you combine matte and glossy beige tiles in the room, you will be able to create a very elegant festive atmosphere. The presented project of a bathroom with a shower stall combines pearlescent glossy and patterned beige tiles. Vignette patterns give the interior composition a classic touch. And the glossy texture of the finish allows you to visually increase the space.

5. Black tiles

In the photo: Design of a modern bathroom with black tiles

Black tiles are commonly used in modern or art deco bathroom furnishings. It can only be used in large bathrooms. Moreover, it is highly desirable that the room also has a window. After all, black is known to be able to visually reduce space. The modern minimalistic bathroom in the photo, thanks to the dark tiles in the decoration, has acquired a brutal "masculine" character. A white console, a light curtain and even an elongated mirror help to dilute the dark monochrome.

Finishing bathroom with shower

It is important for tiles in the shower area to be particularly resistant to moisture. It is also worth considering that the tile in this area should be easy to clean, because you have to wash drops of water from it quite often. The tiles in the shower area can also be used to decorate the rest of the walls of the room. However, designers often choose a tile different from the main one for this zone, which becomes a decor or color accent.

6. Floral pattern

Pictured: Bathroom design with floral tiles

Crystal drops on invisible threads in the shower are like the jets of water captured by macro photography. Such "watery" decor forms interesting optical solutions in the interior. It is versatile, as it can be used in almost any modern interior and even in art deco and modern design projects.

8. Sand pebbles and tiles

Pictured: Design of a modern bathroom with a shower

Do you want to feel like a guest of the ocean lagoon when taking a shower? Then decorate the area with a pebble mosaic tile. As an alternative, textured tiles can also be used. The interior, which uses pebbles, looks more natural, acquiring eco-style motives.

Tiles in the bathroom in the attic of a private house

In the photo: Design of a white bathroom in the attic of a private house

The design of a bathroom with white tiles in the attic of a beautiful country house, thanks to the floral pattern on the tiles and plants in pots, acquired eco-style motives. The backlights directed to the sloping ceiling are designed to visually "raise" it. A lemon-colored translucent curtain brings a sunny mood to the room.

10. Fashionable white tiles for brickwork

In the photo: Bathroom design in the attic

And in the design of this bathroom, the echoes of Provence are clearly "heard". White tiles stylized as brickwork, matte blue-gray walls, wicker laundry baskets, a wooden vanity unit, a white curtain on the window - all these furnishings “work” to remind of Provencal vacations warmed by the rays of the gentle sun.

Tiled bathroom decor

Pictured: Design of a neoclassical bathroom with tiles

Candlestick-like sconces are typically used to decorate neoclassical bathrooms. Shown in the photo is a beige interior with mosaic tiles, a modern interpretation of the classic theme. The graceful sconces in this example are complemented by crystal trimmings and placed in the area above the sink.

12. Chandelier with crystal trimmings

Pictured: Design of a large bathroom with a shower

A chandelier with a cascade of crystal drops often "accompanies" art deco interiors. The bathroom interior design project in the photo is no exception. Monochrome bathroom with shower is finished with chocolate-colored tiles. Tiles of different textures are combined in wall decoration, which creates an additional decorative effect. The chandelier, reminiscent of water droplets in slow motion, creates an interesting play of light and, along with an original heated towel rail, similar to an installation in a modern art museum, helps to make the composition unique.

13. Decorative curtain

Pictured: Bathroom design with a curtain

The room curtain in the bathroom is one of the main trends in bathroom design in recent years. Textiles make the space feel more comfortable. In the design of the bathroom in the photo, the light green curtain is "echoed" by mosaic tiles in the decoration of one wall. This repetition in color forms unity.

14. Crystal curtains

Pictured: Bathroom design with tiles and crystal curtains

Tile is the ideal material for decorating a bathroom. It is durable, moisture resistant and easy to clean. With it, you can create original ideas in the interior and hide the imperfections of the room. If you're unsure how to turn a bathroom into a trendy, cozy room, use the examples and tips in this article.

Bathroom Design Ideas

Replacing tiles in the bathroom is not the most budgetary item for renovation work. Therefore, this is done not so often, but especially carefully. In shape, the tile is most often square or rectangular, and there are many options that differ in size and texture. The standard installation method is a combination of a light bottom and a dark top, separated by a border.

Advice! Try to choose "serial production", then you do not have to select different elements separately.

When choosing color combinations, do not forget that bright colors (orange, red, yellow) charge with energy and vigor, and cold ones (green, blue, lilac), on the contrary, soothe.

Combination of tiles and wood finishes

If you want to make a bright bathroom, play with contrast, try to combine yellow and sky blue, red and black, green and gray.

For small baths, it is better to purchase tiles in cold blue and gray tones, measuring 30 x 20, and laid horizontally. In order not to create a "well" effect, it is impossible to lay out the entire wall with a single-color tile. Try to paint the remaining distance (20-30 cm) from the ceiling with water-based paint or lay out to the level of the bathroom - a dark tile, and above it is light.

Attention! In rooms with a small area, you cannot use embossed tiles.

If you want to visually increase the height of the ceilings, you must:

 • lay the tiles vertically;
 • use bright friezes;
 • decorative panels, borders, to be laid not below eye level.

An interesting finish for a small bathroom

The classic combination of white and black will never lose its popularity. It will look very impressive if the black tile is matte and the white is glossy.

Tile laying schemes

Methods of laying out and tiling with tiles in the bathroom

When starting a bathroom renovation, you need to decide how you will lay out the tiles, what area you will cover with it. There are three options for tiling the wall with tiles:

 1. Tiling the entire room.
 2. Facing with tiles to a certain level. Those. the bottom will be tiled, and the top with another coating (wallpaper, water-based paint, plastic panels).
 3. Allocation of certain functional areas with tiles: washbasin, bath, washing machine.

Laying tiles only on the floor

There are many more laying patterns:

 • seam to seam - that is, the tiles are laid in a row, one after another, both horizontally and vertically. In this way, square and rectangular tiles are laid out, and to give aesthetics they are decorated with beautiful borders. You can combine tiles in two different colors. This seam-in-seam technique is called a checkerboard.
 • "Brick layout" or "in a bandage". For this method, rectangular tiles of different shades, laid horizontally, are suitable. In appearance, such a scheme resembles laying a brick, i.e. the lower row of tiles is laid with a shift of half a tile in relation to the upper one. Do not choose tiles in two contrasting colors, this will create an uneven floor effect.

Brick layout

 • diagonal scheme. The tiles are laid at an angle to form a rhombus, but seam to seam in relation to each other.

Diagonal tile layout

 • modular way. For this scheme, you will need tiles of 3 different sizes. Before laying tiles in this way, lay out all the elements on the floor to see the finished drawing, and then transfer them to the wall.

Modular laying method

 • ornamental way. In this case, a certain pattern is laid out from the tiles, for example, a color composition in the center of a plain background.

Ornamental styling

 • patchwork scheme... For this method, you will need multi-colored tiles that do not repeat with each other in the pattern and do not have a common theme.

 • floor with border... As a rule, for this method, a bright floor tile or mosaic is chosen, while part of it goes onto the wall, by 1-2 rows. The rest of the wall is covered with plain tiles in pastel colors.

Curb floor

Attention! This scheme allows you to visually increase the space, but at the same time visually reduces the height of the ceilings.

How to choose tiles for bathrooms in different styles

The choice of tiles will depend on the choice of the style of the bathroom. The following main areas of design can be distinguished:

 • ... Opt for ceramic tiles in pastel soothing colors that imitate marble, complement them with ornate friezes and frescoes.

Classic bathroom

 • Minimalism. This style provides for the rejection of everything superfluous. Use a combination of no more than 2-3 colors in the interior. For example: brown floors, beige walls and white plumbing. In this design, borders or stucco moldings do not look appropriate.
 • Country style. The main rule of this trend is the use of tiles that imitate natural materials. For walls, you can buy tiles for stone, and for the floor. The interior should be dominated by brown, green, beige colors.
 • Modern style. The tiles you choose should create a spacious effect and add light to the room. To do this, use light shades, simple lines in patterns, a minimum of decorative elements. You can play with contrast using light walls and dark floors.

Modern bathroom

 • For style, use pastel colors: blue, lilac, coral, cream. You can make a partial division of the wall: first, a medium-sized tile of light colors, and above - wooden panels. Plain tile slabs, decorate with floral borders.
 • High tech. The characteristic difference for this style is the monochrome wall covering and lack of decoration. Basic colors: white, black, beige, brown, silver.

Mosaic in the bathroom

A distinctive feature of tiles is the ability to create colorful panels on the entire wall. Most often, a floral or floral ornament is used for the bathroom. Mosaic creates "accent walls" - for example, lay out an original geometric pattern or a colored panel on the side where the bath is installed.

Mosaic in the bathroom

It is not necessary to use a mosaic for laying out drawings; lay out the wall with mosaics of different shades: blue, turquoise or green in a chaotic manner. Even a narrow strip of multi-colored pieces will create an unusual and bright look, as well as increase the height of the room.

Using our advice, you can create your own unique design or make it easier for yourself when choosing a ready-made option. As a result, you will get a cozy room that will be beautiful and fashionable, and by choosing the right tiles and installation method, you can hide the room's flaws and emphasize your own style.
