regular painting with a roller;

materials with a vinyl layer can be painted before gluing to the wall, the paint will be absorbed into the non-woven base, and the pattern will remain unchanged;

Hot Stamping Vinyl Wallpaper

A more modern direction in the production of duplex paper-based coatings is to impart structure to the canvas by filling it with sawdust of various fractions. Non-woven fabric

Structural wallpaper on a non-woven base for painting on the modern market is presented in the widest range. They are made by spraying vinyl onto a non-woven fabric and subsequent hot stamping.
It is this material that best hides small defects and cracks on the walls. If you are doing repairs in a new building, then this is exactly your option. Both non-woven and vinyl in themselves are quite elastic materials and when the house shrinks, minor movements of the base will easily be hidden by such a coating.
The back of the wallpaper is absolutely smooth and thin enough to show through. As a result, it is possible to give the original background to the coating by painting the canvas from the wrong side.
But there are also disadvantages, it is not advisable to leave vinyl spraying without staining. The paint will strengthen the surface structure and it will become less susceptible to mechanical stress. But if you have pets with sharp claws, then even paint will not help here, a scratched dusting is almost guaranteed to you.

Fiberglass cloth

This material is considered the most environmentally neutral... Glass fiber, like many types of glass, is made from quartz sand, with the addition of various additives, dolomite, lime, soda, etc.
There are 2 types of goods... The production technology of the former is somewhat simpler and cheaper, of course the price of the wallpaper itself is lower. They are made by pressing fiberglass with a paper base. The result is a painting canvas with a light texture. Among professionals, this type is called a cobweb.
The second type of glass fiber wallpaper has a standard woven ligature... Such a fabric is produced on special weaving machines. The range of textures presented here is incomparably wider. The mechanical strength and resistance to chemical attack are much higher. The canvas is impregnated with environmentally friendly starch-based strengthening compounds.
Such a coating not only masks small cracks on the wall, but also reliably reinforces it, preventing it from growing. 10 - 20 times. Modern manufacturers give a guarantee for the durability of the texture up to 30 years. Walls can be washed with any non-abrasive detergent.
But because of their strength and durability, they are not popular in private houses and apartments.... Subtleties of pasting

Non-woven and fiberglass wallpapers do not pose these problems. The material is strong enough, does not tear or stretch. Only the wall is smeared with glue, the canvas itself remains dry. They are also mounted end-to-end, but they can be pressed tightly without fear of wrinkling or deformation.
... For the economy option, you can use water-based paint. But water-dispersion, acrylic or latex, is much more beautiful, more reliable and more durable.

Advice: if the texture has a large pattern that needs to be combined, then when buying, take with a margin of 15 - 20%. It is better to take a special glue, for this type of canvases, with an antifungal effect. When gluing smooth concrete or tiles, pre-treat the base with concrete contact.

Paper wallpaper for painting can be pasted over not only the walls of the room, but also the ceiling, and then the feeling of a homogeneous seamless surface is created. Wallpaper is applied quickly and easily. They do not have any specific pattern, so the edges can not be adjusted.

Therefore, less glue will be needed, and the work will go more fun.

The non-woven base evens out and hardens the surface texture. It is because of their strength that experts especially recommend gluing them in new homes. The walls in a new house, as you know, shrink, and for quite a long time, several years, sometimes irregularities and cracks even appear. So, wallpaper on a non-woven base will not only not tear, but in a sense will keep the crack, will not allow it to go further.

True, they have one “harmfulness”: they must be handled very carefully. The fact is that the relief (foamed vinyl), in principle, can be scraped off even with a fingernail, not to mention touching heavy furniture. Therefore, they must be painted, then the top layer will become much stronger. They acquire special strength, resistance to abrasion and moisture only after sticking and painting.

Glass fiber for painting

Glass fiber for painting is produced using a completely different technology. They are made up of fiberglass strands made from silica sand, soda, dolomite and lime. This coating is bonded to the paper backing during the manufacturing process. The material is obtained in various densities and structures, with beautiful textures, reliefs and ornaments.

Glass fiber has a number of valuable qualities, among which we note the decorative effect and the ability to correct small flaws in the walls. To increase the fire resistance, fiberglass is treated with a special impregnation, its composition is kept secret by the manufacturers.

Glass fiber can be smooth and embossed, and the interlacing of threads imitates various textures and patterns: “matting”, “herringbone”, “cobweb”, “rhombuses”, etc. Before gluing the glass fiber, it is recommended to cover the wall surface with a latex primer of a neutral color. Glass fiber is glued with a special glue, after which it is painted with water-dispersion paints (latex or acrylic).

The main advantage of fiberglass wallpaper is its exceptional strength and durability (the wallpaper can easily withstand frequent washing with a brush). Due to its strength and durability, glass wallpaper is successfully used not only in residential buildings, but also in offices, hotels and other public premises. They are glued as easily as paper and non-woven wallpaper. But it is very difficult to tear them off the wall, so it is believed that they are more suitable for offices. Although, as you like.

Structural wallpaper for painting is mainly produced by foreign manufacturers: ERFURT, MARBURG, MOHR, ERISMANN, AS CREATION (Germany), MITEX, TASSO GLASS (Sweden), FINTEX (Finland), MERMET (France), ASSATEX (Finland). In any store, they will definitely tell you that, they say, you don't need any special preparation of walls for wallpaper for painting. But, you must admit, any surface before starting repair work should still be thoroughly putty.

In this case, the surface must be dry and hard, and the plaster must not be crumbled at hand. In order not to damage the texture, the glued canvas is rolled out with a brush or a soft roller. And most importantly, you need to glue the edges of the wallpaper with glue as carefully as possible, otherwise the seams will disperse.

It is better to choose the glue that is recommended by your chosen master or wallpaper manufacturer. They know better. Wallpaper should be painted with water dispersion paint. Whichever paint you choose, this is how the surface will look: wallpaper can appear matte or, conversely, silky. Again, paint determines whether your wallpaper is washable or not.

Most of these wallpapers will withstand 5 to 15 coats of paint. But professionals advise you not to get carried away and repeat your art a maximum of 10 times. So choose the wallpaper that you like for painting and give the walls your favorite color.

First, let's talk a little about the composition. Non-woven material is a whole class of cellulose-based materials. Non-woven fabric has long been used in the clothing industry as a backing for fabrics, as well as in medicine.

Non-woven advantages:

breathability;
low moisture content;
no shrinkage upon drying;
good susceptibility of non-woven fabric to anhydrous paints;
repels dirt;
non-woven fabric almost does not wrinkle and easily returns to its previous shape;
good strength, due to which the wallpaper is very resistant to various kinds of scratches, they are less likely to tear;
fire resistance;
environmentally friendly composition.

Non-woven textile wallpaper:

It is thanks to these properties that interlining has become quite common as a substitute for paper. And then there were wallpapers made from it.

Non-woven wallpaper

Like any other type, non-woven wallpaper also has advantages and disadvantages. And these are:

Advantages:

due to its dense base, it is possible to hide small irregularities and imperfections on the surface of the walls;
they do not fade in the sun, they do not tend to accumulate dust and dirt on their surface;
the material is highly breathable;
waterproofness;
fire resistance;
wear resistance;
if you nevertheless damaged the surface of the wallpaper, you can simply tear off the strip on which there is damage and stick a new one without damaging the interior;
they are easy to stick. The glue should only be applied to the wall. Thanks to this, your floor remains completely safe.

Disadvantages:

low resistance to all kinds of damage;
dust accumulation;
quite high cost.

Types of non-woven wallpaper

Paper

This type can consist of one, two or three layers, between which a filler is introduced, then the desired pattern is created using a press.

Advantages:

environmentally friendly composition;
materials allow air to pass through well;
affordable price.

Disadvantages:

susceptibility to mechanical damage;
unstable to moisture;
will not hide existing wall defects.

Vinyl

Advantages:

do not accumulate dust and dirt on the surface;
resistant to mechanical damage;
easy to care for;
moisture resistance;
affordable price;
a very large selection of various textures and colors, each consumer will find something to their liking.

Disadvantages:

easy flammability of this material at 110 - 120 degrees, and during combustion they emit harmful substances;
polyvinyl chloride, from which the top layer is made, does not allow air to pass through. This can cause condensation to build up.

Advantages:

the possibility of painting;
high performance properties;
huge selection.

Disadvantages:

Not found. This type makes it possible to choose wallpaper for any discerning taste. As already mentioned, there is a huge variety of textures, colors, various properties and purposes. The photo shows structural wallpaper on a non-woven base:

Textile

The most expensive and the most beautiful. The top layer can be of different types of textiles: velor, silk, linen and others.

A little about the various top layers of textile wallpaper:

linen. The most common top layer. They are environmentally friendly, aesthetically pleasing and quite affordable. And the manufacturing technique allows you to make them very similar to real linen;
jute. From this material, very dense and thick enough wallpaper is obtained, so that serious flaws in the walls can be hidden. In addition to this, the material is completely environmentally friendly;
felt. Not everyone likes it, but it is very good warm - and soundproof the room;
velours. Ideal to combine with antique furniture and semi-antique interiors. This material is soft, beautiful, exquisite;
silk. Makes your interior look luxurious and rich. It goes well with wood, upholstered furniture, bronze;
jacquard. This material is obtained by weaving threads of different thickness and sometimes color. Textured, it looks quite interesting and unusual in the interior.

This is the most basic and common textile non-woven wallpaper. But besides them, there are still quite a few that are definitely worth attention. For example, suede, cotton, velvet, viscose, etc.

Advantages:

very effective appearance;
the joints between adjacent strips of wallpaper are almost completely invisible;
such wallpaper additionally insulates heat and sound;

Disadvantages:

collect dust and absorb odors;
difficult to care for.

These are new modern developments from the wallpaper world. The top layer consists of expanded polyvinyl chloride. Vinyl itself is quite durable, and if you add a non-woven base to it, you get a great combination.

The advantages of non-woven-based foamed wallpaper are not much different from vinyl, because the latter are also made by foaming.

easy to use, do not require super complicated care;
environmental friendliness;

Hot Stamping Wallpaper

First, let's try to understand a little what hot stamping is.

The basis of such wallpapers, as you already understood, consists of non-woven fabric. The second layer is the already familiar vinyl, followed by another layer of foamed vinyl and the sheet is passed through the heating chamber, creating a pattern. This last action is called hot stamping.

The advantages of the hot stamping technique on wallpaper are quite high:

in terms of strength, they can be compared, perhaps, with fiberglass;
water resistance;
do not fade in the sun;
can be safely washed with a sponge and detergents;
ease of gluing;
thanks to the hot stamping technique, it is easy to fit on walls made of various materials, for example, wood, concrete, plaster.

Wallpaper for painting

This is the most common type of non-woven base. They are made in light colors: white, cream, light yellow, pale pink, etc. They can be either without a relief pattern or with a relief pattern.

Also, due to the fact that they are colored, the structure becomes denser and stronger. But the air passes after painting, of course, much worse. There are different types of paints, therefore, after painting, the wallpaper acquires additional properties. For example, after using latex paint, they can be washed safely.

There are several color options. You can do this before gluing, this way you can achieve light pastel colors. Or paint them from the back side and then the color is soaked through the non-woven layer, and only the base is tinted, and the drawing will remain its original color. You can also paint them with a short-nap roller after gluing, then only the convex pattern will become colored, and the base will remain unchanged. And, of course, you can paint the entire surface as a whole. It is very important: if you decide to paint the wallpaper after gluing, then you can do this only after the glue has completely dried.

Coloring can be done several times. The more layers and the more relief the structure of the wallpaper, the more times you can do it.

Care

It is quite easy to care for non-woven wallpaper or non-woven wallpaper. Enough and simple wiping with a dry or damp cloth, depending on the type, of course, as we talked about earlier, or a little vacuum cleaner.

The instructions from the manufacturer will help to determine what can and cannot be done with the wallpaper. Each package contains all the information you need.

Repair non-woven

It is also worth mentioning separately about the repair non-woven liner.

Repair non-woven fabric is just one non-woven base without any top "decorating" layer. It is specially designed to eliminate any defects on the walls, cracks, irregularities, etc. And also for heat and sound insulation of the walls of the room. The repair non-woven liner is glued directly under the wallpaper. On top of it, you can choose absolutely any type of wallpaper, both on a non-woven basis, which will further enhance the advantages of the repair non-woven fabric, or without it.
