Wolf Mountain is a location that has become available to players in The Long Dark Sandbox mode since December 16, 2015. The peculiarity of this location is the presence of the consequences of a geomagnetic storm, which became the starting point for the development of the plot, which at the time of this writing had not yet been introduced into the game. At the location there is a transition to the Otradnaya Valley.

The whole value of these sublocations lies in the fact that when each of them is found, the percentage of explored game space is increased and a corresponding entry is made in the Journal. If you carefully study the list of wrecks, you will notice that the nose of the aircraft is missing at this location. Perhaps it will appear in future updates.

The easiest to find when exploring the location will be a piece of landing gear, wings and containers with supplies that were transported by plane. The tail section of the plane can be found at the top of the mountain range. It will also be interesting to find the only building at the location - this is the Climber's Hut. You can get to it by following the path to the Crystal Lake, on the shore of which this lonely house stands.

When you come to a location for the first time, thoughts immediately appear in your head: "Something important and terrible has happened here." Wolf Mountain is the very connecting thread between the silent world in which the hero found himself, and the civilization where the hero comes from.

Literally every cave, every glade and grove shows with its whole appearance that someone was here before you. Remains of bonfires, frozen corpses of people and pages of diaries only confirm these feelings. Climbing the mountain higher and higher, the feeling that everything is about to fall into place, begins to grow, press on consciousness, rush forward and upward.

With each cargo container found, your appetite will only be played out: the total weight of things (food, clothing, equipment, materials, weapons) from all containers can easily reach one hundred kilograms. In any case, the hero will not be able to carry it all away in one go.

The closer the hero to the top, the more difficult it becomes to survive. The abundance of deer and rabbits, which in the first days only pleased, soon begins to only frighten, because man is not the only predator in these forests. The fear of meeting a wolf or a bear makes you flinch at every rustle and go around a seemingly safe clearing with deer on the side.

Two weeks later, the hero has a full backpack, which is enough to turn around and run from this damned mountain along the beaten path to the nearest warm house, and from there - go without looking back, forgetting about the horror that he experienced during this time. However, the tail of the plane looms around the corner, and now my hands ache again from the last climb on the cable.

There is a blizzard around, my leg hurts in the place where it was dislocated a couple of days ago, but there is a torch in my right hand and nothing else can interfere with the achievement of the goal.

Mysterious lake.

On different difficulties of the game there is a different number of animals, for example, on the difficulty "stalker" get ready for frequent encounters with wolves and bears. Coastal Highway.

The next location is the Coastal Highway. This location differs from others in the number of buildings and the richest loot. It also has its own atmosphere. You will not wander through the endless wastelands, but will walk more through abandoned villages and towns. There is only one building hill in this location. And it is called "Abandoned Observation Post" ... It is very strange that the developers made the same texture of the building as that of the Forester's House. This location overlooks the Mysterious Lake and the Pleasant Valley.

The path to the Valley will lead through an abandoned coal mine, where, upon close inspection, you can find up to 6 cartridges, a pair of work boots and several gun cleaning kits. This is not all there is in the mine. You will find many good things. So, back from the mine on the Highway. This location is not rich in predatory wolves, but in hares. Yes, hares. A specially made building on a hill called "Island of the Horned Hare" - a hunter's paradise. The developers, apparently, "assigned" all the rabbits from the location to this place.

Also at the location there is a bear den, you will see it as a cave, at the entrance to which there will be gnawed yellow bones of the animal. On the "stalker", be careful, walking here, a bear may attack you, but usually it is empty and you can spend the night in it because it is warm there.

Pleasant Valley.

The next location is Pleasant Valley. There are few buildings at this location, but a large open world, in the truest sense of the word. The highest point of the location - "Radio Tower Hill" which is not so easy to climb. This hill is often walked by wolves and bears, so be careful when hiking in this area.

There is also a "Farmer's House", which I would not call that - the farmer is apparently too prosperous. The house is large, several bedrooms, a lot of fuel for the stove, and a lot of clothes. All in all, you'll love it here.

Wolf Mountain.

If you like hardcore, then try to survive on "Wolf Mountain". This is the most difficult location and paradise for climbers. There are many rocks and ledges on this map that you can climb. There are only a few buildings where you can wait out the night and not freeze to death, not "Go into the darkness."

Timothy grass, besides its nutritional quality, is also the most common food on the "intruder" difficulty, since the rest of the food most often falls under the chance of falling out (cans, canned food).

Collect mushrooms and rose hips, tea from them will give us a warming bonus. The healing effect of rose hips is the same as pain relievers, and mushrooms help against poisoning. Wolves gnaw almost always, I have not tried to defend myself with a knife, since death here means another ten hours to make this very knife. Meet fear, it is your closest companion throughout the game. Only in the house can you say goodbye to him for a short while ... until you get claustrophobic. It is extremely difficult to survive here, since we were deprived of not only tools. It seems that someone has already visited the boxes. Apparently we are from the previous difficulty. The shelves are almost as cleaned as possible, except that the bar has fallen behind the shelf, from where it is even difficult to get it. Wolves are aggressive and almost fearless. Finding clothes is very problematic, in general, no one is happy about you here.

Having walked the great path a dozen times, you understand two things. The first thing is that you can survive without an ax and a knife. The second is that you may not find the hammer, either in the climber's hut, or in the fishing hut nearby. In my case, out of ten successful attempts, only three times the hammer did not come across to me there. These three times I tried to run with a male character and with the icon turned on to run. Maybe there is a relationship, maybe not.

Usually they can be found in houses and sometimes in boxes (except for a magnifying glass). The hammer is not so rare in fishing huts.

In principle, you can survive starting in other places, but survival in the swamp is especially difficult. So now in more detail.

-Great pilgrimage

Except as "The Great Pilgrimage", this cannot be called. To technically win, we need a bow. For this we need an ax. For this we need a blacksmith's hammer and a forge. And there are only two forges in The Long Dark at a very decent distance from the places where you can somehow survive at the initial stage.

So, the most optimal solution would be to start the game in the "Wolf Mountain" location. Here almost every time you can find a hammer, matches, food (mostly in the form of timothy), water, firewood for further travel. It is more difficult in other areas. Old advice won't help here, we need a map! There is no map in The Long Dark, so you have to search the Internet and then learn how to use it. Wolf Mountain is not so difficult to identify, apart from the Echo gorge, which cannot be confused with anything, you can see the wreckage of an aircraft. Having started here and having decided on where we are, we need to find the climber's hut. It is located by the lake. In it or in a nearby fishing booth you can find a hammer, firewood, a bed, timothy, make some water, but it's better to leave before the evening. There will be a wolf nearby, so keep watch. What can you do, no one said it would be easy. We collect all that we can Timothy, loot the building and take the hammer. We leave before nightfall, 4-6 hours, because the house resembles a sieve, at night without a fireplace we will freeze.

Advice: pick mushrooms, tea from them will give us a warming bonus. Mushrooms do not grow back in The Long Dark, so this resource is worth saving.

Leaving the hut, we head to the gratifying valley. Do not miss, go for a long time and we will lose decent health in the cold. On the way, collect branches, without an ax and firewood, which we find in houses, this is the only source of heat. Try not to get overwhelmed. Once in the gratifying valley, collect firewood from the nearest house and go down to the bunker. If it's still light, look around, or go to bed and look around in the morning. If you find a sewing kit, mend your clothes immediately in the morning. It's still cold in the morning.

Next, we go to the house of the dodger. Here, depending on the time, we warm up and move on, or sleep. There are several mushrooms and rosehip bushes near the house. Our further path to the river and the nearest timothy. On the way, it will not be superfluous to pick mushrooms and rose hips, but only on the way. Otherwise, you will spend a lot of health on the journey. Then we go along the river along the center of the map in the direction of the estate of the gratifying valley, along the way collecting timothy. Having passed the first bridge, you can either collect more timothy trees, or head straight to the estate.

This is the most convenient place for sewing clothes, as there are a lot of curtains everywhere, which give a lot of fabric. Don't forget to check out the basement as well. Even if you don't have a sewing kit, you should stock up on fabric because it may not be nearby in the short term. Water can be drawn from toilet barrels. Do not frown, there are very few matches and we will all need them. Inspect all places with extreme caution, because a magnifying glass is the only source of heat that can always be available. Without it, it is impossible to survive in the long term.

The homestead is one of the most convenient places. There are a lot of rabbits nearby, not too close, but not too far away the timothy grows ... but the wolves are also not far away. The inside is full of books. They give the best chance of lighting a fire, thus saving matches. It is recommended to pump the skill of kindling a book to the second level, so you will save even more matches. Believe me, the author lost 20 matches on empty fires and when there were only 4 left, he decided by sinful deed that the journey was over. The next 4 hours had to look for others, greedily saving the rest. Just in case, I had to spend a match and a lot of firewood to boil 10 liters of water for a rainy day. We need a way to deal with them. Of course, you can scare them off, but it does not save for long. In principle, you can carefully leave them, they will pursue, but not pounce on a person if you face them at some distance. Don't let them get close.
