Street electromechanical lock on the gate. Diagrams of how to connect an electromechanical lock to a gate. Selection and installation

The electromechanical street lock for the gate is most often used in conjunction with an intercom. This is one of the most convenient types of locking devices, which is used both autonomously, for example, in a private yard, and is part of the access control system in enterprises. Such locks can have one working level, as well as additional vertical crossbars for the implementation of 3-point locking. In addition to gates, they are also placed on the gate.

Advantages and disadvantages of an electromechanical lock for a gate

There are many different types of locking devices, but it is not in vain that electromechanical normally closed type locks are used for gates. Here are the main advantages that make them popular:

    reliability. Even when the power is turned off, the bolt of the lock remains in the extended position, which makes it possible to avoid sudden opening of the gate;

    convenience. Guests can open the door with an electromechanical lock remotely using the remote control or the intercom button, for this you do not need to go outside and go to the gate;

    alternative way to open. The electromechanical type lock works not only with programmed electronic keys, but also with traditional ones. If you suddenly forgot your contactless card at home and have already slammed the gate, you don’t have to sit under the door, the lock can be opened with an ordinary key.

Electromechanical locks for gates also have their disadvantages:

    the mechanism of the locking device is constantly exposed to moisture, dust, temperature changes, and therefore requires regular cleaning and lubrication. Otherwise, there is a risk of breakage or jamming of the lock;

    a bolt protruding beyond the end of the door can scratch the skin or tear clothes;

    In order for the lock electronics to work properly, it is necessary to provide a stable power supply to the device.

Complete set of electromechanical lock on the gate

Ready-made solutions for locking gates include all kinds of equipment variations. The devices differ in the way of installation, types of identification, side of the door and other parameters. Can pick up electromechanical gate lock, which will work in conjunction with an intercom, open with a classic key, tablet key or contactless card. For commercial structures, identification using a digital or alphanumeric access code, which is entered on a special panel, is also suitable.

A typical set of equipment for the gate includes the following devices:

    electromagnetic lock of a suitable design;

    reader of an electronic key ("tablet", contactless card);

    power unit;

    electronic and mechanical keys.

In addition to the standard equipment, it is also desirable to connect the electromechanical lock to an uninterruptible power supply. This is especially true for facilities where there is a problem of frequent power outages.

The procedure for installing an electromechanical lock on a gate

Compared to overhead locking devices, an electromechanical mortise gate lock requires more effort and time during installation. The rest of the equipment mounting procedure is as follows:

    A label with markings is applied to the wicket door from the inside with a pencil or glued, all the necessary holes are drilled to screw the lock. A hole for the larva is cut out from the outside.

    The case with an open lock mechanism is attached to the gate with self-tapping screws, a larva is inserted from the opposite side. A striker is mounted to the frame at the level of the crossbar.

    When all the elements of the lock are fixed, the operation of its mechanical part is checked.

    An electronic key reader, a numeric keypad or an intercom entry panel is mounted on a support post outside the gate.

    Power is supplied to the lock and additional equipment is connected in accordance with the wiring diagram.

    After power is applied, the correct operation of all devices is checked.

    The lock mechanism is closed by a cover.

An electromechanical lock installed on your gate in the fence is able to ensure the safety of the house and the comfort of its owners. Such a “guard” will not let strangers into the site and will allow you to open the gate remotely without going outside.

We will analyze the nuances of choosing, installing, connecting and subsequent operation of street electromechanical locks in more detail.

The principle of operation of an electromechanical lock

The principle of operation of locks is simple. The lock closes thanks to a latch included in the groove holding it. Under the influence of voltage supplied to the contacts, the spring retainer is reset and the lock opens. From the inside, it can be opened by pressing a specially built-in button, or using an electronic key or card. While in the house, a wireless key fob or remote control will allow you to open the gate locked with such a lock.

Varieties of electric locks

Electromechanical locks differ in design and principle of operation.
Locks come with:

  • electric latch;
  • motor;
  • electrical interlock;
  • solenoid.

Lock with electric latch allows you to open the gate by turning the handle due to the incoming voltage, which removes the lock from the latch. If such a lock is installed on the gate, they can be left open.

Motor locks are powered by a small electric motor, so the gate will open with a slight delay. In such models, when closing, a pressure force acts on the latch, due to this it will be extremely difficult to squeeze the bolt. Some models allow you to set a certain number of crossbars. For example, during the day, the lock can be closed with one latch, and at night - with everything.

Locks with electric interlock are opened by applying voltage, due to which the spring retainer is reset and the latch is inside the device. When the latch enters the groove, the lock closes.

Solenoid locks work due to the displacement of the crossbar from the influence of a magnetic field on it, excited by a special coil - a solenoid. An electrical voltage is applied to this coil and a magnetic field is generated.

You must understand that the function of access control to the territory due to the installation of such a lock is practically reduced to zero if it is installed on a light wooden fence gate. Most often, the lock has an opening button and it is quite easy for an attacker to get to it and open the device.

Varieties by type of installation

Electromechanical locks come in two types of designs:

  • mortise - can be equipped with a three-point locking system with vertical bolt bolts and connected to an intercom;
  • overhead - they have a cylinder on the outside, and a mechanical element inside, so they open even in the absence of electricity.

How to choose an outdoor electromechanical lock

When choosing a lock, you need to consider:

  • how the gate opens: to the right or to the left, inward or outward;
  • lock power;
  • the holding force of the model - the larger it is, the more reliable and expensive the lock;
  • the state of the device in the event of a power outage, i.e. will the lock remain closed or open;
  • the presence or absence of a keyhole - locks without a keyhole are more reliable.

In order to make it easier for you to decide on the complete set of the lock in a particular case, we suggest watching a short video.

Mounting sequence

To install the lock, you can use the services of a specialist or install it yourself, following the instructions.
The lock is installed as follows:

  1. Align the lock with the gate and fix a small gap between them and the bar (preferably 5 mm).
  2. Mark where the fasteners will be.
  3. Drill holes with a puncher in the appropriate places.
  4. Fasten the lock to the gate with bolts or screws.
  5. Make a hole for the cylinder with a crown.
  6. Fix the main part on the door leaf with the lid open, and the counterpart part on the wicket frame.
  7. Check if the lock works, if there are any jams.
  8. Strip the wires and connect them to the terminals in the lock.
  9. Apply voltage.
  10. Check the lock again.
  11. If the lock functions properly, close the cover.

Since the installation of an electromechanical lock requires an electrical connection, and the electrical wiring is most often carried out in pipes underground, the power cable of the device must be protected by an RCD or differential circuit breaker.

Electromechanical locks differ from conventional mechanical locking devices by the presence of an electric mechanism that opens the locking element and automatically locks the doors after it is closed.

Set of overhead electromechanical lock brand HiQ Lock-014

Principle of operation: after closing the door, the bolt enters the locking tab under the influence of a spring, magnet or electric motor (depending on the model), and returns back after applying voltage to the latch. The kit includes a key to unlock the doors in the absence of electricity.

Checking the electromechanical lock for operability before installation

Before buying a specific model, it is important to choose the right lock for a street gate. You should think in advance what functions it should have, and on what surface it will be installed. After all, different types of locks are distinguished not only by the price, but also by the features of installation and operation.

Advantage: in the absence of electricity, the gate door will be closed.

Electromechanical gate locks made in Italy by CISA are the best solution for any type of door and operating conditions.

Kinds

Electromechanical locks are classified:

I. By design:

  1. Mortise.
  2. Overhead.

Design classification

II. By type of mechanism (principle of action):

  1. Electroblocking.
  2. Motor.
  3. Solenoid.
  4. Electric strikes.

III. By way of management.

IV. By supply voltage.

V. By type of loop arrangement:

  1. Right-sided.
  2. Left-sided.

VI. By type of door leaf:

  1. For plastic and aluminum doors.
  2. For profile doors.
  3. For metal doors.
  4. For street gates.

Mortise locks are installed on street and entrance doors. Some models are equipped with three-point locking (they have an additional bolt - a vertical deadbolt). CISA mortise locks series 12011 and 16215 are perfect for office and home doors. designed for frequent use (service life up to 10 years).

General characteristics of CISA mortise locks: power supply - 12 V, current strength - 3.1 A, DC resistance - 3 Ohm, insulation - class F. Price from 3950 r. up to 4350 r.

Overhead locks have a cylinder on the outside, and a mechanical element on the inside, providing the ability to open the door in the absence or sudden power outage. CISA 11610 and 11630 rim locks are highly secure and resistant to extreme temperatures and heavy rainfall.

The model can be selected according to the material of the door and the side of the hinges. General characteristics of CISA locks: DC resistance - 3 Ohm, power consumption - 15 W. Price from 4250 r. up to 4450 r.

Electric blocking locks are equipped with powerful springs that lock the mechanism. The crossbars of such locks are equipped with a hard-alloy nozzle to reduce wear. The door is opened with a magnetic card or a key. In the closed state, the lock leaf is fixed with a latch. Under the influence of voltage (supplied by an intercom or a magnetic key), the latch jumps back into the housing due to the release of the spring retainer.

Motor locks are also called crossbars. They are equipped with a 24V electric motor. While the door is closed, the motor presses on the latch, so it is not possible to press the bolt. Some models have two modes of operation: lock only one latch or several strikers. These locks differ in opening delay. In this case, the duration of the delay can be chosen by the user at his discretion.

The insides of a solenoid electromagnetic lock

Solenoid locks move the bolt using an electromagnetic field, but in the absence of mains voltage, the lock will open automatically (in accordance with fire safety regulations). Therefore, a fallback should be considered.

Electric strikes are ideal for installation in light and thin doors

The lock with electric latch is practically the most ideal electromechanical lock for the gate. It is installed on any type of doors and gates. Unlocking and locking of the latch is performed when an appropriate command is given. This allows you to leave the lock unlocked for a long time. At the same time, it opens by turning the handle.

Wireless self-powered mortise lock with remote gate opening

There are wireless electromechanical locks on autonomous power supply (batteries). The installation of such locks is recommended in places where wiring is impossible or extremely difficult. On average, the batteries last for a year, and after the expiration of the period, it will be possible to open the lock using a regular key.

The CISA-Nimeo mortise wireless electromechanical lock is ideal for offices and residential premises. It is equipped with handles, which allows it to be used as a regular lock. You can open CISA-Nimeo with a card, code, remote control or a mechanical key. Powered by 4 AA 6V batteries, which last for 8 months. Price - 19000 rubles.

Advantages and disadvantages

Advantages:

  • durability;
  • can be combined with other security systems;
  • reliability.

Disadvantages:

  • the bolt of the open door protrudes outward and may cause injury or damage to clothing;
  • the need to apply a lot of effort to unlock the latch;
  • when exposed to low temperatures or high humidity, interruptions in operation occur. Therefore, it is better to equip the lock with a protective visor;
  • the device must be connected to the mains and ensure that the voltage is constant.

The price of electromechanical locks refers to both advantages and disadvantages. It depends on the financial condition of the buyer. Although some models have quite a budget price. For example, CISA mortise street lock model 16215 (the price is only 3950 rubles)

Intercom connection

Typically, an electromechanical lock is connected to an intercom with a two-wire wire through which an electric current flows to hold or open the lock (depending on the type).

The operating voltage of the lock must correspond to the control voltage of the intercom, mainly 12 or 24 V. Some models allow you to select the operating voltage by moving a special jumper in the lock body.

Electromagnetic locks, which hold the door closed only when there is current in the winding, consume relatively large currents. Solenoid locks also draw quite a lot of current when opened. Therefore, when connecting the lock to the intercom, it is necessary to make sure not only that the lock supply voltage matches the control voltage of the intercom, but also that the intercom is capable of delivering the current necessary to control the lock.

Wiring diagram with video intercom

In a situation where the intercom is unable to control the lock itself, an external relay and an additional power supply can help. The voltage of the relay operation must correspond to the voltage that the intercom gives out, and the parameters of the power supply must match the electronic lock. Thus, the intercom will control the relay, and it, in turn, will switch the connection of the lock with an additional power supply.

Keeping your home secure is a top priority for every homeowner. Along with a variety of alarm systems and anti-burglary mechanisms, the installation of a special electromechanical lock on the gate also proved to be excellent.

Such a barrier will be a serious obstacle in the way of an intruder and will not allow him to quietly and quickly penetrate further. The second advantage is that you can open the gate to a welcome guest without leaving your home on the principle of an apartment intercom. Before asking for a similar novelty in stores, check out a brief educational program on electromechanical locks.

The principle of operation and types of electromechanical lock on the gate

The entire range of such products can be divided into four types. It is easiest to classify locks depending on the mechanism and principle of operation. According to the type of location, locks will be divided into overhead and mortise. When buying, you should also ask what direction the doors are intended for: when installing a right-hand or left-hand lock, there will be some nuances. Of course, in order to place the mechanism on the street, it must also have sufficient strength against weather conditions.

Types of electric locks

Classification by mechanism type:

  • Electrical blocking. The door is opened by a magnetic key or card. The device is supplied with the voltage necessary to act on the spring latch and open the latch.
  • Motor (crossbar). The device is equipped with a small electric motor that holds the bolt of the lock in the closed position. When opening, there is a slight delay, which distinguishes these types of locks.
  • Solenoid. When the mechanism is triggered, a small electromagnetic pulse occurs in the system, which acts on the bolt of the lock. The disadvantage in use is that it is impossible to open without power supply, so a backup option is needed for this type of device.
  • Electric strikes can be successfully used on all types of gates and wickets. The locks are released automatically when voltage is applied. A big plus and ease of use is the ability to leave the gate temporarily open until the locking mechanism receives another command.

Some models are also equipped with an additional device - an intercom, everyone is familiar with the principle of its operation, especially apartment owners. For a private house, such a device will also not be superfluous, especially if the site is quite large and it is problematic to constantly go out and open the doors. You can see how it looks by reading the article.

Along with the indisputable advantages of using electromechanical locks for gates and gates, such devices also have a number of design nuances that can be attributed to disadvantages.

On the video - an electromechanical lock for the gate:

Negative sides

  • When opening, the bolt of the lock is not completely hidden, but protrudes from the plane of the door leaf, which can cause injuries, damage to clothing, and simply a distraction.
  • Under extreme use, such as heavy rainfall and low temperatures, the mechanism may fail. At the same time, it is extremely necessary to take care of the protective visor for the lock during installation.
  • Mandatory connection to the power supply may also not always be convenient. Laying the power cord during installation can also be attributed to inconvenience in use.

Despite some shortcomings in the work, electromagnetic locks have proven themselves well in operation, therefore, among all types of locking devices, there is a steady demand for them. Before buying, as mentioned earlier, you should carefully study the design of the lock and obtain comprehensive information from the seller.

Rushing to purchase a kit is not very rational; this thing should serve you without problems for many years. Pricing will also be an important factor. Electromagnetic locks are expensive by default, well above the usual standard models. This fact can be explained not only by the design, but also by the build quality, which bona fide manufacturers guarantee. And how it is installed can be seen in the description for this article.

Any owner of a private house wants to protect his yard from intruders. And the decisive moment in this matter is the correct choice of the lock on the gate. They are different - from the good old padlocks and mortise locks to complex security systems. The most popular option today is the electric gate lock. This article will tell you about the features of the selection and operation of such devices.

Advantages and disadvantages of an electric lock

First of all, let's understand the principles of operation of an electrically controlled lock. From the outside, the device is opened with a key (magnetic or conventional), and from the inside - either by a button located on the inside of the door, or remotely, using an intercom.

Important details in the device of the electric lock are two crossbars - cocking and working. When the door closes, the first cocks the spring, and the second enters the part of the lock, called the reciprocal. At the same time, the door is locked, and it becomes impossible to open it by simply pulling the handle. When we need to unlock the gate, an electric signal is applied to the electromagnet solenoid in the lock with the help of a button, the spring retainer is reset, and the working bolt is pulled back into the lock under its action.

A modern electric gate lock has the following "pluses":

  • to open the door, there is no need to go outside (if you have an electric lock installed on the gate with an intercom);
  • magnetic keys are difficult to fake;
  • resistance to environmental influences allows you to extend the life of the lock;
  • electric locks provide a high level of security for your home.

The disadvantages of the electric lock on the gate include, first of all, the complexity of installation (the installation of such a lock should be carried out only by an experienced specialist), as well as the dependence on the power supply and the high cost of the device itself.

However, there are several types of electrically controlled locks:

We also note that for the correct operation of the device, it is required that the control voltage is within 12 V, and the current strength is from 1.2 to 3 A, depending on the model of the lock.

LOCK ON THE GATE

ELECTROMECHANICAL - ELECTROMAGNETIC - CHOICE

There is an opinion that the installation of a reliable locking device for the gate is an unjustified excess and has no practical value. After all, you can get into the courtyard of the mansion simply by climbing over the fence.

However, for areas with reliable fencing and the presence of a perimeter alarm system, installing an electric lock on the gate becomes an important part of ensuring security.

The choice of the type and model of the lock for the gate is carried out in accordance with the following criteria:

  • level of protection against hacking and selection of keys;
  • design fault tolerance;
  • body tightness;
  • frost resistance.

Be sure to have silicone and rubber seals, various nozzles, gaskets and caps for moving parts and structural holes. Internal mechanisms must be completely protected from moisture and dust. Another important parameter is the ability to open the lock with a key from the inside and outside.

The possibility of remote control is currently one of the most important parameters when choosing locking devices. An electronic lock on the gate will not only make it possible to open it without leaving your home, but will also reliably block the possibility of penetration, since the methods of selecting keys, mechanical master keys, etc. are not applicable to it.

Of the entire range of modern locking devices, only electromechanical and electromagnetic locks meet the requirements. They are widely used as part of smart home control and management systems.

The most common types of gate locks are overhead and mortise. In both cases, the housings of the devices must be protected from the side of the street with armor plates (mortise lock - on both sides) to prevent the possibility of knocking out.

ELECTROMECHANICAL LOCK FOR GATE

Due to their principle of operation, electromechanical locks have a whole list of advantages over conventional locking mechanisms. Modern manufacturers produce quite a few models with different configurations, however, the fundamental design and arrangement of internal devices are quite similar.

One or more crossbars made of high-strength steel can be used as a locking element. In the closed position, the crossbars are pressed by tight springs into the holes of the reciprocal plate, reliably blocking the gate. This does not make it possible to unlock the bolt by pushing, as is the case in mechanisms with a toothed shank comb.

When the device is opened, an electrical impulse is applied to the solenoid, which resets the spring retainers and draws the bolt into the body under the influence of electromagnetic induction. As a rule, an impulse is applied to the solenoid for a short period of time, after which the lock is brought to its original position.

There are models with the possibility of mechanical blocking in the open state. In this case, the functions of opening and closing the lock are duplicated using a conventional mechanical key. Consequently, the burglary resistance of such structures is significantly reduced and directly depends on the possibility of selecting master keys.

It is most expedient to use a street electromechanical lock for a gate with an electronic key.

Of the main advantages of the electromechanical lock for the gate, the following can be noted:

  • high reliability, both in terms of burglary resistance and fault tolerance;
  • the design is resistant to most types of mechanical stress;
  • convenient use. The use of Touch Memory keys significantly reduces the opening time, which can be very useful in critical situations.

LEADING MANUFACTURERS OF ELECTROMECHANICAL LOCKS

A reliable electromechanical gate lock can be purchased from the following manufacturers:

Manufacturing company from Italy. Specializes in locking mechanisms for outdoor use. Its electromechanical locking devices withstand significant temperature fluctuations, ultra-low temperatures down to -50 C, and are able to successfully operate in conditions of constant high humidity.

Sheriff.

Another brand from a domestic manufacturer. The main emphasis in production is on the safety of the structure and the use of high-quality materials. Very reliable products with a high degree of resistance to burglary. Basic models withstand up to 300 kg per bolt.

The products of this manufacturer are widely used in safes, depository bank vaults and other facilities with a high level of security.

ELECTROMAGNETIC LOCKS FOR GATES

Electromagnetic locks are of two types holding and shear. The first, as a rule, are overhead, and the second are mortise. The principle of their operation is the same and is based on the effect of electromagnetic induction. The design has no rubbing moving parts and therefore has a high degree of reliability.

The main element consists of a core made of transformer steel and a coil (winding) which is an enamel-insulated wire wound around the core.

The principle of operation of the retaining overhead electromagnetic lock is as follows. A metal plate attached to the door leaf with the help of an electromagnetic field is held by the body (fixed on the door frame) in which the core with the winding is located.

Shift electromagnetic locks have a more complex design. A box with metric crossbars is mounted directly into the door leaf. After activation of the electromagnetic coil, they move forward, blocking the door mechanically.

The use of shift electromagnetic locks for street gates is not typical. They require more careful installation and precise compliance with all tolerances. At the same time, they are more reliable and economical, since much less electromagnetic induction force is required to securely hold the door leaf.

IMPORTANT! Electromagnetic locks, unlike electromechanical ones, open automatically after a power failure, so you need to take care of an emergency power supply device.

Benefits of using electromagnetic gate locks:

  • ease of installation (for holding models);
  • high reliability of holding the gate and the impossibility of influence from the outside with the help of master keys, selection of keys, etc.;
  • compact size - devices can be disguised or placed in the internal cavities of building structures;
  • convenient use - Touch Memory keys or magnetic cards are used for opening;
  • low power consumption - some models through uninterruptible power supply devices can operate up to a day on a charge from one battery.

FEATURES OF CHOOSING ELECTROMAGNETIC LOCK

Durability and reliability.

Particular attention should be paid to the fastening with which a metal bar is installed on the gate. The housing where the electromagnetic coil is located should have as few seams as possible through which dust and moisture can get inside.

It is best if steel is used as the material for the manufacture of the case. Models with aluminum alloy cases need additional protection with external steel plates.

Corrosion protection.

The product must be coated with anti-corrosion compounds, preferably powder paint.

Compatibility with external control systems.

It is necessary to select such energy consumption parameters, which in the future will allow the use of an electromagnetic lock for an intercom or any other remote access control system.

Reliable Manufacturers:

Domestic manufacturer producing high-quality and reliable products. Gained wide popularity due to the rich range of intercoms and accessories for them. Electromagnetic locks are fully compatible with other equipment of this company.

do-it-yourself electromechanical lock on the gate

The company was founded in Ukraine in 2005. Produces a wide range of equipment for access systems. Its products are of high quality and reliability at an affordable price. All products have a certificate of conformity of the Russian Federation. And adapted to harsh operating conditions.

Electromagnetic locks of this company differ significantly in their design from the generally accepted ones. The locking element is a special curved crossbar, which is included in the reciprocal bar of a special design. When disconnected from the power supply, such a device remains in the closed state.

Thus, electromagnetic and electromechanical locks are one of the most reliable and easy-to-use locking devices that can be controlled remotely.

When choosing them, it is recommended to provide for the possibility of connecting to a video intercom or burglar alarm system. Naturally, when buying, you should pay attention to more expensive models, since the service life of cheap Chinese products is very limited.

Locks for gates, gates, garages.

Selection and operation of the castle for the street.

Now outside the window it is snowing with rain, mud and slush on the streets. Brrr. And, sitting and looking out the window at all this, I decided that it was time to write an article about the operation of locks in the harsh conditions of the street.

Doors that lead to the street are found all the time - these are the entrance doors of private houses and cottages, doors to the entrances of apartment buildings, doors leading to various organizations, gates, gates, garages, etc. All these doors combine severe operating conditions - frost, high humidity, or, conversely, direct sunlight and heat over 40, and sometimes even sudden changes in temperature. Naturally, in such conditions, locking mechanisms must have certain design features that allow such a mechanism to work for the prescribed period and maintain its characteristics in full. Unfortunately, in our State Standard 5089-2011 "Locks, Latches and Cylinder Mechanisms" there is no such thing as "outdoor locks" or something similar, therefore, describing these mechanisms, I will proceed from my own experience. For convenience, we will divide the locks not only by the principle of design (electrical and mechanical), but also by type (lever, cylinder, rack, electromechanical and electromagnetic).

What characteristics should a street lock have? In my opinion, the first thing to pay attention to is the anti-corrosion properties of the mechanism. For example, locks of class 1 and 2 according to GOST are not tested for corrosion resistance of lock elements, they are intended for indoor use. The mechanism of locks of 3 and 4 classes has special coatings that prevent metal corrosion, and some locks are generally made of stainless steel. I prefer good galvanic coatings (zinc, nickel is better), less often, powder painting. Locks made of stainless steel are rare, and their price is quite high, while the lock is not completely made of this material, but, as a rule, only the body and the deadbolt. Most locks have a body, crossbars and a mechanism made of galvanized steel, spacers in such locks made of plastic, brass or bronze - this is the "golden mean".

The next important factor is the “impenetrability” of the case, i.e. the absence of holes, especially in the top of the case, through which atmospheric precipitation will enter the lock. This is especially true for overhead locks, the case of which is located directly on the street, as well as mortise locks in "hollow" doors that do not have any skin. In such cases, it is very desirable to have a visor above the door, covering the lock from precipitation and direct sunlight. There is a funny example in my practice: a steel security door on the street had such small gaps between the leaf and the box that in the summer, in the afternoon, when direct sunlight hit the door, the metal of the door expanded and blocked the door. The owner poured several buckets of water over the door, after which the door cooled down, and he went home.

Another characteristic (although perhaps some will disagree with me) is the presence of sufficient clearances in the lock mechanism. For example, in modern "advanced" cylinders, the gaps of the mechanism are minimal and are calculated in microns, this is done to increase protection, small gaps are harder to "probe" for a potential burglar, but this design also has disadvantages - the amount of moisture that has entered the lock mechanism with small gaps and frozen there, you need disproportionately less than for a "sovdepovsky" castle with gaps the size of a finger ...

I would like to draw your attention to another important detail - the lubrication of the lock. In my opinion, you should not use thick lubricants, such as grease and lithol, since the lock body is not airtight and such a lubricant, mixing with dust and fragments of the mechanism that form during the operation of the lock, turns into a real abrasive, thereby reducing the "life way" of the castle at times. Also, thick lubricants are of poor quality and corny freeze in winter, so much so that people break the keys, trying to turn the lock. For example, in expensive Italian locks it is very rare to find any lubricant, and in cheap Chinese “handicrafts” the details of the lock simply “float” in it. That is why I recommend using liquid lubricants such as WD-40 or silicone sprays to lubricate locks and cylinder mechanisms.

Street locks. Locks for gates and garages. Installing a lock on a front door

The range of lock products for swing gates is very wide. In stores, you can find both locks designed exclusively for garages (for example, locks from the Kirov factory with a cross-shaped key), and dual-use locks that can be installed on both doors and gates. It is worth noting here that we are talking about swing gates, not sliding ones, for the latter there are special locks with a hook-shaped crossbar, and I will not discuss them within the framework of this “opus”.

The first thing that distinguishes gate locks is, first of all, the dimensions of the lock, as well as the projection of the crossbars. As a rule, push handles are not installed on the gate, and the lock is actuated only by a key. Also, on large gate leaves, the use of vertical rods is relevant, since the dimensions of the leaves here are large, and it is possible to “squeeze out” one corner, thereby gaining access to the protected premises. Vertical rods can also compensate for the low rigidity of the leaf, slightly increasing the protective properties of the gate. It should be noted that vertical "struts" are very demanding on the quality of installation, their distortions are unacceptable, they must be made of the lightest possible profile in order to reduce the load on the key that drives them.

The lock on the gate has another difference - the fastening of the lock to the sash. Here, the flight of the installer’s imagination is not limited, you can also make a “chassis” for the lock, you can install it inset, etc. I will only note that the lock should be installed as firmly as possible, using threaded connections (there are cases that it is simply welded, and this is unacceptable for a number of reasons).

When choosing such a lock, you should pay attention both to the products of Italian brands - Cisa, Mottura, Iseo, and to Russian manufacturers. The Italians have now become too expensive for many, which our factories are very happy about, I think. From overhead locks, I would recommend Guardian 20.05, Barrier 3 and 4, Mattem ZN4, Elbor Sapphire, and, for example, Kerberos. Of the more budgetary ones - Elbor Granite, Kirov castles Stalf, St. Petersburg castles Cerber, etc. To the mortise locks most suitable for gates, I would include any "heavy" lever (!) Models of the factories Guardian, Mettem, Kerberos, Border (they or Pro-Sam) and some models of locks Crit. All of these mechanisms have their advantages and disadvantages, and it is worth choosing them, taking into account the design of your gate.

Street locks. Gate locks.

The variety of designs and materials of gates is so great that one could write a separate article, and more than one. Let's divide them all into two types, gates made of steel profile or corner, having a solid sheet of steel on one side, and the rest. The rest I will include gratings, gates made of corrugated board, all kinds of combinations of aluminum profiles and sandwich panels, etc. On the gates of the first type, as a rule, the choice of lock for installation is practically unlimited, and the gates of the second type have an unpleasant feature: the small size of the lock , a limited place for its installation and the presence of porches and ledges that do not allow the installation of an overhead lock. Therefore, the choice of a lock for gates of the second type should be individual, and I will not describe it here.

And so, we have a steel gate, maybe even lined with something, maybe even has forged elements. First of all, let's define the principle of the castle. Will we have an intercom? Then the lock is put electromechanical (less often electromagnetic). I can say one word about electromechanics - Italy. You can of course add a second China.

How best to protect your site - put a combination lock on the gate

But it is better to leave Italy, and explain - Iseo. If you want to install a lock once and for all, then this word and about $ 100 will be enough for you. Overhead electromechanical gate locks in Rostov Iseo are the best on the market (in my humble opinion), with proper installation and operation, they are reliable and resistant to all weather conditions. In recent years, a large number of Chinese electromechanical locks have appeared on the market, they cost from 1,500 to 3,000 rubles, the quality is often not bad, but they are far from Iseo, and you choose which lock to install. There are also electric mortise locks. From the inside, they are opened with a push handle, from the outside with a key or an ACS “tablet”. Basically, these locks are made in Europe and their price is high. Another point: the latches of electromechanical locks must be lubricated frequently! At least once every 2-3 months.

If the intercom is not planned, then an ordinary mechanical lock is installed. It can be both mortise and overhead, preferably lever, but it is also possible to install a cylinder lock (it is possible to replace the lock cylinder in it). Overhead, it is better to put the level models described in the section above “locks on the gate”, at a price of 1000 rubles. The choice of mortise locks is large, many models are suitable, for convenience I would recommend using push handles, since the gate will not always be closed, and the latch, actuated by the handle, will fix the door, preventing gusts of wind and any other animals from opening your gate . About handles for street locks, I will write below, I will give a list of lock models in the same place.

Street locks. Handles and locks for entrance doors.

Pens.

In my opinion, the most suitable handles for outdoor use are products painted with powder paint, fixed with a coupler through and through. Any chrome and "gold" ones will peel off in less than a year, but painted ones will last much longer. Therefore, I recommend...

Mortise locks for the street:

Guardian 30.11 (there are painted handles for them)

Kale 252 (both lever and cylinder)

Elbor Granite and Lapis Lazuli (poor quality in recent years, considered only as a very budget option)

In principle, any cylinder and lever locks Mettem (there are also budget ones)

Overhead locks for the street:

Guardian 20.05

Mettem ZN4

Stalf ZN 053 and ZN075

Offhand, nothing else comes to mind, I will gradually add more ...

Sincerely, Sergey, master of locks in Rostov on pro-zamok.ru

Installing an electromechanical lock for a gate

Keeping your home secure is a top priority for every homeowner. Along with a variety of alarm systems and anti-burglary mechanisms, the installation of a special electromechanical lock on the gate also proved to be excellent.

Such a barrier will be a serious obstacle in the way of an intruder and will not allow him to quietly and quickly penetrate further. The second advantage is that you can open the gate to a welcome guest without leaving your home on the principle of an apartment intercom. Before asking for a similar novelty in stores, check out a brief educational program on electromechanical locks.

The principle of operation and types of mechanism

The entire range of such products can be divided into four types. It is easiest to classify locks depending on the mechanism and principle of operation. According to the type of location, locks will be divided into overhead and mortise. When buying, you should also ask what direction the doors are intended for: when installing a right-hand or left-hand lock, there will be some nuances. Of course, in order to place the mechanism on the street, it must also have sufficient strength against weather conditions.

Classification by mechanism type:

Some models are also equipped with an additional device - an intercom, everyone is familiar with the principle of its operation, especially apartment owners. For a private house, such a device will also not be superfluous, especially if the site is quite large and it is problematic to constantly go out and open the doors.

On the video - an intercom with an electromechanical lock on the gate:

Rushing to purchase a kit is not very rational; this thing should serve you without problems for many years. Pricing will also be an important factor. Electromagnetic locks are expensive by default, well above the usual standard models. This fact can be explained not only by the design, but also by the build quality, which bona fide manufacturers guarantee.

Before buying, you should also take care of who will carry out the installation and the level of qualified specialist training. Simple overhead models of an electromagnetic lock are quite capable of being installed independently, the main thing that you will need is detailed instructions and a set of necessary tools.

Self-assembly

It is still desirable to entrust such a device to be mounted by a specialist, but they are also suitable for self-installation. In order to perform the installation of an electromechanical lock with your own hands, you will first need to take into account the design and type of the locking mechanism. It is easier to install an overhead model, but you will have to tinker with a mortise lock and such work is not always justified: you can damage the system or reduce the security effect by improper installation.

On the video - installation of an electromechanical lock on the gate:

Installation

  1. Marking in place, taking into account the actual dimensions of the castle.
  2. Through the fixture of the device, make the necessary holes in the door leaf.
  3. A hole for the cylinder is made separately.
  4. The lock is fixed on the door leaf and the wicket frame, the closing of the crossbar is regulated.
  5. Connecting the lock to the power supply.
  6. If necessary, a display for a digital code or a magnetic card and key reader are additionally installed. At this stage, you can perform additional protection of the mechanism from weather influences. This will significantly increase the life of the lock.
  7. System control, performing several opening and closing operations with possible system debugging.

It is also desirable to secure the power wire with a plastic or rubber casing, which will also play a decorative role, masking an unaesthetic appearance.

Manufacturers and estimated cost

The price range for electromagnetic locks is quite wide, as for all goods, the price / quality ratio applies here, so it is simply irrational to skimp on such a purchase. If after a short time the lock fails, it will be quite problematic to prove the fault or defect of the manufacturer, especially if the installation was carried out independently.

Otherwise, if preference was given to a trusted manufacturer with an excellent business reputation, warranty obligations and long-term experience in this field, you will be protected as much as possible from low-quality products. The only drawback is that the cost of such an acquisition will be many times higher.

Estimated cost of an electromagnetic lock from different manufacturers

You can choose the appropriate option by examining product catalogs both in specialized stores and on the Internet. The price range can vary significantly in different regions, the main rule is not to rush to buy in order to choose the best option.

Electromechanical locks perfectly preserve the security of housing. There are many types of similar products in the assortment, the price range for it will also be quite extensive. Having bought a suitable option, one should not forget about qualified installation. For fairly simple devices, it can be done independently, and complex systems are best left to a specialist.

Home safety and ease of use are guaranteed by electromagnetic locks from the best manufacturers!

Corrugated gate lock: types and basics of choice

The fence is needed in order to protect the territory from unwanted guests, as well as to ensure that the personal plot has a finished, aesthetic appearance.

The most common material for the construction of fences is C20 corrugated board, the technical characteristics of which give it aesthetics, durability and reliability. And in order to prevent unauthorized persons from penetrating beyond it, it is necessary to choose and install the lock for the gate from corrugated board correctly. True, it can be quite difficult for an ordinary consumer to navigate what the market offers.

It will be much easier to do this if you make some kind of classification of castles, which can be classified according to these two criteria:

  • By installation type
  • Depending on locking mechanism

Corrugated fence locks by installation type

After the gate from the profiled sheet with your own hands, the fence, and the gate are installed, it is the right time to think about choosing a lock. For gates made of corrugated board, you can buy the following locks:

  • hinged
  • mortise
  • Overhead

Padlocks, although they are rather bulky and not always convenient mechanisms, do not cease to be purchased for installation on gates made of corrugated board. And this despite the fact that today the market offers more modern models.

The padlock is made of anti-corrosion material, so it is not afraid of snow or rain.

Depending on the design, padlocks for corrugated fences are:

  • Classic, in which there is a mechanical secret and it opens with a key
  • Code ones open without a key, but after setting a certain code combination

For gates of hollow structures, a mortise lock is suitable, which cuts directly into the leaf itself. Their installation is more laborious, but this does not diminish their popularity.

Box, flat or rim locks are easier to install than previous models. During installation, the canvas is not damaged, and the installation itself is reduced to screwing. In order to unlock it from the outside, you need a key, but inside there may also be a key or a latch.

Tip: to protect against the influence of precipitation, it is advisable to build a special visor over the castle.

Types of locks depending on the type of locking mechanism

There are three groups of locks in this category:

  • Lever
  • Cylinder
  • Smartlocks

The levers are considered the most reliable, and the reliability is determined by the number of levers. Its large size is a significant drawback, as it may not fit all gates. You can buy it in specialized stores, and the price starts from 550-650 rubles.

Cylinder mechanisms are simple and reliable. The degree of protection depends on the larva, more precisely on its complexity, and this criterion also affects the price of the entire castle. Its plus is that if the lock is broken, then it is enough to simply replace the larva, and there is no need to completely dismantle the entire structure.

Gate lock: do-it-yourself selection and installation

The cost of such locks is slightly lower, and you can buy it for 300 rubles.

Smartlock is a gate lock made of corrugated board, which is the most modern and in order to open it, a code, a fingerprint, a retinal pattern can be used. Their price is quite high and will cost the buyer from 3,000 to 11,500 rubles.

How to choose and install a mortise, overhead and padlock in a corrugated gate?

In order for the mortise lock to be reliable protection, it is necessary to pay attention to its choice. This takes into account such parameters as the ratio of the width of the gate itself and the width of the front plate of the lock itself, and it is also necessary to take into account the depth of the lock body.

If the gate has a hollow structure, then you can immediately start marking the place for the mortise lock at the end of the gate. Cut a niche for further installation, drill holes for fastening, make a hole for the larva on the canvas, as well as holes for the handles, and for this the preparatory work can be considered completed.

Direct installation consists of inserting the lock into the prepared niche and fixing it with self-tapping screws, after which the rod for the handles and the handles themselves are inserted.

Installation work with an overhead lock can be reduced to three main stages:

  1. Make markings on the gate
  2. In accordance with the markings made, drill holes for screws for fastening and for the core
  3. Lock and handle attachment

When choosing a padlock, it is necessary to take into account the fact that it will need metal eyes. Eyelets must be reliable, durable, so it is best to choose metal ones. They require welding to install.

Eyelets are flat, but they are only suitable for wooden doors, as they are installed flush. But for a gate made of corrugated board, you will need corner eyes. They are welded at the same height, but in such a way that they do not interfere with each other when opening the gate.

When choosing a lock for a gate made of corrugated board, you need to understand that it should serve not only as a reliable protection of the area around the house. In addition, it is necessary to pay attention to how easy and convenient it is to use, because it will have to endure numerous openings and closings over a long period. It is also important to think about protection from high humidity, frost.

It is better to buy locks for gates in specialized stores. Store consultants will help you choose the most suitable lock model, which will:

  • Serve as reliable protection for the entire yard
  • Practical to use
  • Resistant to changes in humidity and temperature
  • Will defend the territory
