There are many ways to classify the health effects of electromagnetic radiation.

Here it is necessary to distinguish between biological changes (which are proven by experimental observations at the cellular level) and pathological effects (the generation or aggravation of diseases) proven by epidemiological studies.

The list of health effects of EMR presented here is in fact only a small sample of the large scale studies currently reported in the scientific literature.

Biological Effects of Electromagnetic Radiation

Here are some of the electromagnetic radiation-induced biological changes in research (most recent data first):

Protein changes in the Skin.

Ten women were asked to volunteer to participate in a study in which they were exposed to EMR (900 mH) via GSM cell phones for one hour. After the experiment, the Scientists removed their skin cells for examination in order to find any stress reactions. They examined 580 different proteins and found two that were significantly affected. (It was increased by 89% while the other was reduced by 32%). Source - NewScientist Magazine February 23, 2008.

Abnormalities in sperm production and quality.

Researchers at the Cleveland Clinic studied the sperm quality of 361 men examined at the Fertility Research Clinic. On average, those who spent more hours talking on their cell phones had lower sperm counts and higher rates of sperm abnormality. Source - New Zealand Herald.

Irritation of brain cells.

Researchers at Fatebenefratelli Hospital in Isola Tiberina have found that the electromagnetic field emitted by cell phones can cause some cells in the cerebral cortex (adjacent to the side of the head where the phone was used) to become highly energized for an hour, while others become depressed. DNA damage.

The German research group Verum has studied the effect of radiation on animal and human cells. After the cells were placed in the electromagnetic field of a cell phone, they showed an increase in breaks in their DNA, which could not be repaired in all cases. This damage can be passed on to future cells, which, in turn, could degenerate into malignant ones. Source - "USA Today", December 21, 2004

Damage to brain cells.

Adverse effects of electromagnetic radiation.

Here are some of the pathological (disease-causing) effects caused by electromagnetic radiation, as reported in the media (in reverse chronological order):

Salivary gland cancer.

Israeli researchers report that people who used cell phones for 22 hours a month or more were 50 percent more likely to develop salivary gland cancer than those who used cell phones infrequently or never used them. Source - "Health24", February 19, 2008.

Brain Tumor.

An analysis of several previous studies concluded that cell phone use for more than 10 years causes an increased risk of acquiring certain types of brain tumors (2.4 times for acoustic neuroma and 2 times for gliomas). Source - "News24", October 3, 2007.

Lymphatic cancer and bone marrow cancer.

Researchers at the University of Tasmania and the University of Bristol studied reports from 850 patients who were diagnosed with cancers of the bone marrow and lymphatic system. They concluded that people living within 300 meters of high voltage power lines for extended periods (especially during childhood) are 5 times more likely to develop these diseases later in life. Miscarriage.

Researchers in California have found that EMR from electrical appliances (such as vacuum cleaners, hair dryers and mixers) can significantly increase the risk of miscarriage in women. Source - Journal of Epidemiology, January 2002

Suicide.

American researchers found that the rate of increase in suicide among 5,000 electrical workers exposed to ultra-low frequencies doubled compared to a control group of the same size. The effect was especially pronounced among young workers. "Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine", March 15, 2000

In addition to the above, many other studies have been done, but not all of them received media attention.

How does EMR work?

Some scientists previously believed that the only way the radiation could produce harmful effects was by its intensity sufficient to cause the effect of heating the tissue. (Earlier it was reported that talking on a cell phone for half an hour can raise the temperature of the brain in the part of the head where the apparatus was in contact with it).

Subsequently, this theory was strongly condemned by many studies, which proved that the intensity of EMR is not enough for harmful effects.

The mechanisms by which electromagnetic radiation can trigger disease are not fully understood yet, but experiments are underway on this issue.

DNA damage.

Our cells have mechanisms that allow limited repair of damage caused by DNA, but, apparently, EMR can disrupt these mechanisms. Damaged DNA has been implicated in several diseases at once, including various types of cancer.

The host cell's protective antiviral mechanism (interference) with the production of Melatonin.

Electromagnetic radiation is introduced into the production of melatonin, a hormone produced in the human body. Low melatonin levels have already been shown to be associated with several diseases, including cancers. (Recent research indicates that serotonin production may also be affected by EMR.)

Influence on intercellular communication.

Our somatic cells communicate internally and externally through electrical signals. These signals can be altered by electromagnetic radiation through the production of electrical currents within the body, causing changes in both cellular activity and cellular structures.

The harmful effects of electromagnetic radiation on health may depend on ...

We do not have all the answers at this stage, but clues from various studies indicate that the health effects of EMF may depend on:

EMR intensity.

Exposure to strong electromagnetic waves can be harmful, even for a short time.

In one study, pregnant volunteers were asked to wear a device that measured the highest EMR intensity (peak) over a 24-hour period. The results indicated that higher peak EMR levels were correlated with higher rates of damage to health (miscarriage).

Cumulative effect of EMP.

During the day, a person is exposed to electromagnetic radiation of various frequencies. For example, they can come from electric razors and hair dryers, equipment in cars, buses or trains, household items such as heaters, ovens and microwaves, neon lights, household wiring, power lines, wearing and using a cell phone. These are the most common sources.

The combination of these effects can overwhelm the body's defenses and defense mechanisms.

The duration of the EMR.

Numerous studies indicate that health damage only begins to be noticeable after many years of exposure to EMR, such as from high voltage power lines or cell phones.

The transience of the EMF.

The body experiences greater biological stress from exposure to EMP from devices with variable, fluctuating cycles of work (photocopier, printer, etc.) than from constant work.

EMF frequency.

Until now, it is not known for certain what types of electromagnetic waves cause negative health effects, but, apparently, different frequencies cause different negative effects.

Signal overlay.

To produce an analog or digital signal - an electromagnetic wave can be modulated in a variety of ways. Where the wave is used for communications (eg radio, television, mobile telephony, etc.), the signal is superimposed on the carrier frequency. There is evidence that, in some cases, the signal component can be more harmful than the EMP of the carrier.

The medical danger of EMR is real.

The dangers to our health from high levels of human-generated electromagnetic fields are real. This is the general conclusion reached by many of the growing number of responsible scientists and health professionals.

Fortunately, there are many ways to protect ourselves and our loved ones before our health is affected.

Now it is absolutely certain that electromagnetic fields can and do have a negative impact on your health.

If you are still skeptical, please read this article (Effects of EM radiation on human health).

Aware is armed. If you are aware of the risks of EMR and protection strategies, then you can make the best choice to keep yourself and your loved ones healthy.

If you cannot follow all of the recommendations below, do at least what you can.

In this case, everything helps.

General EMP Protection Rule # 1

Reduce your exposure to EMP by increasing your distance to radiation.

This is the most important rule for EMI protection and is often the easiest to apply.

How far away from the radiation source should be depends on its intensity. For example, to reduce field intensity, you may need to travel a distance:

25 meters for power lines and cell towers.

30 cm from your computer monitor

5 cm from the electric clock next to your pillow

2.5cm from cell phone

Many people understand that they can increase their level of safety from EMP by moving a hundred meters further from power lines or cell towers, but few people think that in everyday life you can protect yourself even more by placing a computer on the floor or pushing the TV further. further away from yourself and your children.

To understand what distance is safe for different types of devices, study this document, but keep in mind that the EMP of your devices may differ significantly from those shown in this list. If you have the opportunity to use a fluxmeter, it is better to take advantage of this opportunity.

General EMP Protection Rule # 2

If you cannot avoid exposure to EMP, try to limit it as much as possible.

For many, it may be commonplace for a long time - to observe working equipment at work, walk by and chat with colleagues near office printers and copiers, or stand next to the oven while preparing dinner.

In all these cases, as in many others, it would be better for your health to apply Rule # 2.

General EMP Protection Rule # 3

If there is no real need to turn on the device, turn it off (or do not turn it on).

EMP comes from many devices that people unwisely leave running, such as chargers (for batteries, cell phones, laptops, etc.), as well as sleep computers and printers.

Turning off appliances is also good for the health of the planet and your wallet.

You should also be aware of and be aware of all sources of EMR in your environment, at home or in the office. This may sound unusual against the backdrop of general behavior, but this is the only responsible approach of a mature and knowledgeable person.

Also investigate all the main sources of EMP in your home or apartment.

Pay attention to the location of the building where you live. Power lines at a distance exceeding 400 meters are unlikely to have a serious impact on your health. If this distance is less, we recommend using a flux meter.

Local power lines (which supply electricity to your home) can also cause significant electromagnetic radiation.

Pay attention to the distance from your home to transformer buildings or technical substations. Electromagnetic radiation from local substations can radiate up to 5-10 meters. Do not let children play in this area.

400 meters is also the optimal distance to be safe from cell towers so you know they are in your area.

As you scan the area, pay attention to how far away you are from TV and Radio antennas. They can have much stronger radiation than cell towers.

Several studies have linked the increased rates of cancer and leukemia to proximity to television antennas, especially the very large and powerful ones, which increase cancer rates when they are 3 to 5 kilometers away.

Unfortunately, there is no better defense than Rule # 1

Protecting your home from EMP

In a house / apartment, sources of EMP are internal wiring and from all types of electrical appliances.

Internal wiring is an essential and one of the main sources of EMP, but rarely does anyone think about it. Some companies offer an examination for the presence of EMR in apartments.

Radiation protection of household appliances

When it comes to electrical appliances, some very common household appliances have a fairly high EMI level. Place them at a farther distance from people, and remember that your communication with them should not be long.

If you use a certain device often or for a long time, it may make sense to find an alternative with a lower EMI level (for example, a laptop or a telephone).

For example, portable hair dryers often have a high level of EMR, but if you use it for only 1 minute a day, then you are unlikely to be exposed to any serious exposure.

However, if you are a hairdresser who uses a portable hair dryer for a total of about 60 minutes a day, then you should consider purchasing a hair dryer with a low EMI. The same applies to sewing machines.

Appliances in the bedroom - or EMP protection in the bedroom

Try to identify your personal exposure to electromagnetic radiation. Pay special attention to those devices and equipment that you encounter most often during the day. Start in your bedroom, because you spend about 8 hours a day here, so even a small amount of EMR in your bedroom can seriously harm your health.

Turn off electric blankets if not needed, or use the lowest setting. Keep the electric clock / radio as far away from the sleeping person as possible, preferably 60 cm or more for networked devices. Even battery-operated clocks and timer radios should not be near your head.

Pay attention to the place where the electricity is brought into your house and the position of the main junction box.

If it is in a bedroom, place the beds at least 1.5 meters away from it. The magnetic part of the EMP will easily penetrate the walls, so also think about what is on the other side of the wall.

Cell phone radiation protection.

Cell phones are becoming a major biohazard, almost a weapon, perhaps as deadly as smoking. In order to reduce their negative impact - use alternative communication methods (land lines) whenever possible.

Don't use cell phones for long conversations and think about others - don't keep them on the phone any longer than necessary.

Children, for their health, must be completely protected from cell phone use because their developing brains are particularly vulnerable to cell phone EMP and their skulls are thinner.

EMP protection in the workplace.

If you spend a lot of time working in an office or manufacturing facility, try to stay at least 1.5 meters away from any electrical equipment such as heaters and air conditioners, file servers or printers. Maintain the same distance from neon lights or electrical wiring connections.

If you work at the computer for a long time, place it as far away from you as possible (especially from your head), if cables allow. If possible, choose an LCD monitor over a ray tube monitor. Also keep as far away from it as possible, and at a distance that the length of the cables allows.

If you have uninterruptible power supplies installed, remember that electromagnetic radiation from them is much higher than from the computer itself. Try to place these devices 1.5 meters away from you and other people.

It is worth making some effort once to optimize your living space if you spend many hours each day in such an environment.

Try to avoid finding or working in an environment where wireless devices such as networks, Wi-Fi, modems, and cordless phones are used. Do not be fooled by their alleged "security". Radio and microwave radiation is even more dangerous than low frequency radiation.

Calculate your personal exposure to low frequency waves.

After you have implemented the above recommendations, it is worth checking the level of daily low frequency radiation to which you are exposed. This will help you understand where most of the EMP is coming from.

The acceptable limit for EMP, in our opinion, only applies to low frequency radiation, but not to Radio and Microwave EMF (which are probably dangerous at much lower levels).

Constant exposure to ELF (ultra-low-frequency, i.e.<100 Гц) и ОНЧ (очень низкочастотными, т.е. 100 Гц- 10 кГц) волнами в 1.0 миллигаус считается безопасным. Это было бы эквивалентно 24 миллигаус/час (1.0×24) в день.

To correctly make this calculation, you must add all calculations of the EMP level from all sources.

For example, if you use a hair dryer (EMR strength of 100 milligaus at a distance of 30 cm to the object of radiation) for 1 minute every morning, this is 100 milligaus / minute, or 1.67 milligaus / hour (100/60).

If you sleep for 8 hours next to an electric clock, the EMP force on your head is 4 milligaus, then you have accumulated 32 milligaus per hour (4 × 8) and reached your EMP limit before you got out of bed!

To calculate the EMR effect in milligaus per hour (mg / Hour):

List all the devices you use every day, along with the duration of exposure (in minutes).

Then calculate the value for each of these points according to our table, choosing the appropriate distance for each fixture.

Multiply the millihaus value by the number of minutes for each point. Add up mg / minutes for all items. Then divide the total by 60 to get the milligaus / hour value.

Adapt the overall result to general factors such as proximity to power lines (see table), travel time, and any other known ELF / VLF sources.

This method is a somewhat crude tool in order to fully and correctly determine the level of your exposure to low frequency waves. But it helps you see where most of the electromagnetic radiation is coming from, and the bottom line helps you assess your risks.

After calculating your total daily dose, try to make lifestyle adjustments that can help minimize radiation exposure. Start simple. (Move the electric clock away from your pillow!)

In short, set a directly achievable limit for the radiation you receive, say, 30 milligaus per hour. When you have achieved this, aim to halve your exposure level. Then you can understand what else can be done to further reduce this level.

EMI influence table of household appliances

This table shows only approximate values for very low frequency waves and ultra low frequency radiation. Devices such as mobile phones and microwave ovens are included in this table only because they emit significant low frequency radiation as well as radio and microwave radiation (the latter are not shown in the table). These are approximate values. Your equipment may have slightly different meanings.

Introduction

Since the 60s of the last century, a scientific and technical breakthrough in science and technology began. It was at that time that the first computers, radio telephones were invented, and the first satellite communications were developed and launched. In parallel with these innovations, the number of conventional at that time sources of electromagnetic radiation increased: radar stations; radio relay stations; television towers. Around the same time, advanced industrial countries began to take an interest in the effects of electromagnetic radiation on human health.

The greatest danger to humans is the effect of electromagnetic radiation with a frequency of 40 - 70 GHz, which is due to the commensurability of the length of electromagnetic waves with the size of human cells.

Over the past 20 years, the number of devices and devices using electricity in the world has increased a thousand times. Now electronics, which we can no longer do without, accompanies us around the clock, both at work and on vacation. Televisions, microwave ovens, mobile phones, computers, on the one hand, help us, but on the other, they pose an invisible, but sure threat to our health - electromagnetic smog - a set of EM radiation from devices and devices created by man. Most people are exposed to EMFs of various levels and frequencies on a daily basis at work and at home.

As a result of experiments, scientists have found that electromagnetic waves are able to interact with living organisms and transfer their energy to them. Now it is no longer a secret for anyone that a person is able to absorb the energy of electromagnetic waves of a large frequency range, which subsequently leads to heating of living structures and cell death. Scientists propose to recognize the impact of the electromagnetic field on human health as one of the most dangerous factors and to take tough measures to protect the Earth's population.

That is why, the problem of the influence of electromagnetic fields on the human body is very relevant to date.

The purpose of the research work consists in drawing public attention to the problem of the influence of electromagnetic radiation on human health.

Research tasks:

1. To study the influence of the electromagnetic field on the human body.

2. To identify the main harmful factors of the influence of a computer and a mobile phone on the human body.

3. Conduct your own research.

4. On the basis of the obtained results of the conducted research, develop important recommendations for the elimination or reduction of the effects of electromagnetic fields on human health.

5. Use the received material for activities to promote a healthy lifestyle within the framework of the college-wide project "Young Medic".

  1. The mechanism of exposure to electromagnetic radiation

Experimental data of both domestic and foreign researchers indicate a high biological activity of electromagnetic fields in all frequency ranges. At relatively high levels of the irradiating electromagnetic field, modern theory recognizes the thermal mechanism of action. At a relatively low level, it is customary to talk about a non-thermal or informational nature of the effect on the body. The mechanisms of EMF action in this case are still poorly understood.

The biological response is influenced by the following parameters of the electromagnetic field: the intensity of the electromagnetic field; radiation frequency; duration of exposure; signal modulation; combination of frequencies of electromagnetic fields; frequency of action.

The combination of the above parameters can give significantly different consequences for the response of an irradiated biological object. Electromagnetic radiation can be especially dangerous for children, pregnant women, people with diseases of the central nervous, hormonal, cardiovascular systems, allergy sufferers, people with weakened immunity. Persons who have been in the EM radiation zone for a long time complain of weakness, irritability, rapid fatigue, weakening of memory, and sleep disturbance.

At the moment, science has proven the connection: in places where people are exposed to electromagnetic radiation, cancers and disorders of the cardiovascular and autonomic nervous system are more often detected.

It is clear to everyone that electromagnetic radiation poses a real threat to human health. It turns out that the electromagnetic and radiation fields are close in some of their parameters. This has been proven by both Russian and foreign scientists. Research carried out in these areas is very promising, its results are now even difficult to imagine and evaluate.

As for EM radiation, they have the greatest effect on the immune, nervous, endocrine and reproductive systems.

Numerous studies in the field of biological action of electromagnetic fields have identified the most sensitive systems of the body: nervous, immune, endocrine, reproductive. The biological effect of electromagnetic fields under conditions of long-term exposure accumulates, as a result of which the development of long-term consequences is possible - degenerative processes in the central nervous system, neoplasms, hormonal diseases. Children, pregnant women, people with disorders in the cardiovascular, hormonal, nervous, and immune systems are especially sensitive to electromagnetic fields.

Effects on the nervous system. The transmission of nerve impulses is impaired. As a result, vegetative dysfunctions (neurasthenic and asthenic syndrome) appear, complaints of weakness, irritability, fatigue, sleep disturbance; higher nervous activity is disturbed - weakening of memory, a tendency to develop stress reactions.

Effects on the cardiovascular system. Disturbances in the activity of this system are manifested, as a rule, by lability of the pulse and blood pressure, a tendency to hypotension, pain in the region of the heart. In the blood, there is a moderate decrease in the number of leukocytes and erythrocytes.

Influence on the immune and endocrine systems. It was found that when exposed to EMF, immunogenesis is disturbed, more often in the direction of oppression. In animal organisms irradiated with EMF, the course of the infectious process is aggravated. The influence of high-intensity electromagnetic fields is manifested in a depressing effect on the T-system of cellular immunity. Under the influence of electromagnetic fields, the production of adrenaline increases, blood clotting is activated, and the activity of the pituitary gland decreases.

Influence on the reproductive system. Many scientists attribute electromagnetic fields to teratogenic factors. The most vulnerable periods are usually the early stages of embryo development. The presence of a woman's contact with electromagnetic radiation can lead to premature birth, affect the development of the fetus and, finally, increase the risk of congenital malformations.

These are the consequences of exposure to EM radiation. As protective measures, one can name regular walks in the fresh air, airing the premises, playing sports, observing basic work rules, working with good equipment that meets all safety and sanitary standards.

2. The effect of electromagnetic rays emanating from cell phones on the human body

Studies by Swedish scientists have shown that cell phone users (especially owners of older analog models) are at risk of developing neoplasms in the brain.

The swelling most often appears on the side of the head where the speaker applies the tube. It is this part that is most intensely exposed to telephone microwaves. This conclusion is contained in a study, the results of which were published in an interactive review of the popular medical journal MedGenMed.

Thirteen examined patients with malignant or benign brain tumors (with the exception of one) were exposed to microwaves emitted by telephones for a long time. Moreover, they all used old analog mobile devices, which have a more powerful output signal compared to newer models.

“As cell phones continue to proliferate — and many older devices with powerful signal outputs are still in use — large-scale research is needed to identify causes and assess the likelihood of illness,” said MedGenMed Editor-in-Chief Dr. George Lundberg.

The report “Study of work activity in conditions of electromagnetic radiation, the effect of medical X-rays and the use of cell phones on the occurrence of brain tumors” was based on a two-year study of 233 patients with neoplasms in the brain. For the analysis, people of the same sex and age, living in the same area, were selected in two regions of Sweden. The analysis identified the main risk factors for cancer.

Compared to any other household or office equipment, a mobile phone is more harmful because creates a powerful stream of electromagnetic radiation at the time of a conversation, directed directly to the head. Electromagnetic radiation of the radio frequency range generated by the tube is absorbed by the tissues of the head, in particular, by the tissues of the brain, the retina of the eye, the structures of the visual, vestibular and auditory analyzers, and the radiation acts both directly on individual organs and structures, and indirectly, through a conductor, on the nervous system ... Scientists have shown that, penetrating into tissues, electromagnetic waves cause them to heat up. Over time, this adversely affects the functioning of the whole organism, in particular, the work of the nervous, cardiovascular, and endocrine systems, electromagnetic waves have a detrimental effect on vision. Studies carried out in Russia have shown the negative effect of the electromagnetic fields of a working mobile phone on the lens of the eye, blood composition and sexual function in mice and rats. Moreover, these changes were irreversible even after more than 2 weeks of exposure to them. If you use your mobile phone like a regular home phone, that is, for an unlimited time, your immunity is seriously threatened.

Scientists warn that children who use mobile phones are at increased risk of memory and sleep disorders.

The effect of harmful electromagnetic radiation is similar to radio interference, the radiation disrupts the stability of body cells, disrupts the nervous system, causing headaches, memory loss and sleep disturbances. Even the most ordinary non-working mobile phone, if it just lies next to your bed, can interfere with your sleep. The fact is that the electromagnetic radiation of a mobile phone, even in standby mode, negatively affects the central nervous system, disrupting the normal alternation of sleep phases. As it turned out, not only the electromagnetic radiation of the phone can pose a danger to human health. More recently, a new round of controversy on this topic was triggered by events in China, where several people were injured by a lightning strike on a cell phone. In France, the meteorological service also warned all residents of the country that it is dangerous to use a mobile phone during a thunderstorm, since "they are conductors of an electrical discharge and can provoke lightning into a person." At the same time, you do not need to call it, it is enough for it to be turned on. In Sweden, they officially recognized the existence of an allergy to mobile phones and took an unprecedented step: all mobile allergy sufferers can receive a substantial amount from the budget (about 250 thousand dollars) and move to remote areas of the country where there is no cellular communication and television. In Russia, a national program in the field of studying the harmful effects of mobile phones on human health should be adopted in the near future. However, “it should be understood that the study of long-term consequences will take more than one year. We will be able to put an end to the discussion about the degree of harmful effects of cellular communications only in a couple of decades ”. Indeed, in the immediate vicinity of the most important human organs, when talking on a mobile phone, electromagnetic energy is emitted, the power of which is greatest in the near zone. The energy is emitted of the same nature that rotates electric motors and cooks chicken in the microwave. Naturally, this energy penetrates the head, affects the brain and other human organs. Therefore, one should expect some kind of response from them to this impact. Moreover, this reaction can be both immediate, simultaneous with the impact, and slowed down and manifest itself later, maybe in hours, days and years. In this case, it is necessary to take into account many factors: the age of a person, the presence of pathologies, his heredity, physiological state in general and, especially, at the moments of using a mobile phone, time of day, seasonal phenomena, temperature, atmospheric pressure, moon phase, the presence of drugs and alcohol in blood, type and brand of mobile phone, cellular standard, call duration, frequency of calls, number of calls per day, per month, etc., etc. It is also necessary to add: the size and shape of the ears, the shape and material of the earrings, the presence and composition of dust on the ears and behind the ears, etc.

Today, mobile phone manufacturers on the devices themselves or in their passports warn users about possible harmful effects (they were finally forced!) And must indicate the relative level of electromagnetic radiation power SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) measured in watts per kilogram of human brain mass. In most countries, 1.6 W / kg is taken as the maximum permissible level. And now cell phones with a SAR level of more than 2 W / kg cannot be found. About 5 years ago, the first cell phones of old standards had more powerful transmitters and significantly exceeded these levels, but now these values are usually less than 1.5 W / kg, and the most advanced of them have this value below 0.5 W / kg. Expert of the Committee on Ecology of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences A.Yu. Somov scientifically proved that none of the 32 cell phones he tested meets the declared safety criteria.

In connection with the widespread use of cellular communications, the problem of the influence of the electromagnetic field (EMF) of a cell phone on the human body is currently relevant. The most numerous group of cell phone users are children and adolescents, whose body is most sensitive to various adverse environmental factors.

It is known that a cell phone at rest periodically emits short bursts of radiation for communication with a base station. Scientists have suggested that this EMF also affects the physiological and biochemical parameters of the human body.

It can be concluded that the electromagnetic radiation of a mobile phone has such a strong effect on the human body that even healthy cells die off.

3. Influence of the computer on adolescent health

Microwave ovens operate mostly for a short time (on average, 1 to 7 minutes), TVs cause significant harm only when located at a close distance from the audience. Against this background, the problem of PC electromagnetic radiation, that is, the influence of computers on the human body, becomes quite acute for several reasons. The computer has two sources of electromagnetic radiation at once (monitor and system unit).

The duration of work at a computer for modern users can be more than 12 hours, with official norms prohibiting working on a computer for more than 6 hours a day (after all, in addition to the working day, a person often sits at a computer in the evenings).

In addition, there are several secondary factors that exacerbate the situation, these include working in a cramped, unventilated room and the concentration of many PCs in one place. The monitor, especially its sides and backs, is a very powerful source of EMP. And although every year more and more stringent standards are adopted that limit the radiation power of the monitor, this only leads to the application of a better protective coating to the front of the screen, and the side and rear panels still remain powerful sources of radiation. According to recent studies, the human body is most sensitive to the electromagnetic field located at frequencies of 40 - 70 GHz, since the wavelengths at these frequencies are commensurate with the size of cells and a sufficiently insignificant level of the electromagnetic field to cause significant damage to human health. A distinctive feature of modern computers is an increase in the operating frequencies of the central processor and peripheral devices, as well as an increase in power consumption up to 400 - 500W. As a result, the radiation level of the system unit at frequencies of 40 - 70 GHz has increased thousands of times over the past 2 - 3 years and has become a much more serious problem than the radiation of a monitor.

The increased electromagnetic background is largely responsible for the impact of PCs on human health. As a result of prolonged work at the computer for several days, a person feels tired, becomes extremely irritable, often answers questions with unambiguous answers, he wants to lie down. This phenomenon in modern society is called chronic fatigue syndrome and, according to the information of official medicine, cannot be treated.

Today, at least 3 main types of computer impact on a person are known.

First view

Second kind

Third kind

consists in disruption of the functioning of some body systems due to inactive work. This significantly affected the musculoskeletal, muscular, and circulatory systems.

consists in concentrating the user's attention on the monitor screen for a long period of time, that is, harm to the computer can manifest itself in various problems with the visual system.

consists in harmful electromagnetic radiation, which, according to the latest research in this area, may turn out to be one of the most dangerous factors for human health

And although over the past 10 years manufacturers have significantly reduced the level of radiation from the front of the monitor, there are still side and rear panels, as well as a system unit, the power and operating frequencies of which are constantly increasing, and, consequently, the level of dangerous high-frequency electromagnetic radiation is also increasing. ...

Electromagnetic radiation has the greatest effect on the immune, nervous, endocrine and reproductive systems. Not a single scientist or doctor is now able to name all the consequences and symptoms. At the moment, this threat is considered much more dangerous than the effects of half-life products and heavy metals after the Chernobyl accident.

Under the influence of radiation coming from the monitor, the graininess of the image and the bulge of the monitor screen, computer scientists observe irreversible changes in the cornea of the eye. Visually, a person observes the change in the shape of objects, unsharp edges, doubling of small images. This disease is not curable, since all currently performed operations correct the imperfection of the optical system of the eye by acting on the cornea, while this disease affects the cornea. Ultimately, this disease leads to blindness. Studies have shown that 75% of operators suffer from one or more irreversible visual impairment or eye diseases.

The main problems associated with the protection of the health of people using automated information systems based on a PC in their work arise from displays (monitors), especially with cathode ray tubes. They are the sources of the most harmful radiation, adversely affecting the health of operators.

Special measurements have shown that monitors do emit magnetic waves, in intensity, not inferior to the levels of magnetic fields that can cause the appearance of tumors in humans.

Even more serious results were obtained when examining pregnant women. Those of them who spent at least 20 hours a week in front of a computer display had an 80% higher probability of premature termination of pregnancy (miscarriage) than those performing similar work without using a computer.

The technical characteristics of displays (resolution, brightness, contrast, refresh rate or flicker), if ignored when choosing a device or incorrectly installed, can have an extremely negative effect on vision.

As protective measures, one can name regular walks in the fresh air, airing the premises, playing sports, exercising for the eyes, observing the rules of working at a computer, working with good equipment that meets existing safety and sanitary standards. It is very important to know the norms of working at a computer.

Materials and results of our own research.

To obtain data on the effect of using a mobile phone and working on a PC on human health, a study was carried out, the main methods of which were questioning and measuring the physiological parameters of a person's condition (pulse and blood pressure). The study involved students of 1-2 courses of the Borisoglebsk Medical College - 158 people. Of the respondents - 88 people from the 1st year (55.7%) and 70 people - the 2nd year (44.3%). According to the results of the study, it was concluded that the health effects of a mobile phone and a computer are. (Appendix 2, Appendix 3)

All participants in the experiment were preliminarily conducted a questionnaire, as a result of which the age, frequency and duration of cell phone use were determined.

Students were asked to answer the following questions:

1) how often during the day you talking by mobile phone?

2) how long during the day you talking by mobile phone?

3) how often you exchanged SMS messages?

Based on the results of the study, it is important to develop the necessary recommendations to eliminate or reduce the impact of electromagnetic fields on human health.

It was found that 41% of respondents very often (more than 4 times a day) talk on the phone during the day, 26% - often (3-4 times a day), 15% - 1-2 times a day, 18% - rarely ...

According to the results of the study, it was also found that 44.4% talk on a mobile phone for more than 10 minutes, 40.8% - 5-10 minutes and 14.8% - 1-3 minutes. At the same time, 64% of the respondents are convinced of the negative impact of a mobile phone on human health. Also, the indicator of students' correspondence with SMS-messages was revealed. As a result, it was found that 89.0% very often exchange SMS-messages during the day (constant communication in chats, VKontakte), 10% - often, 1% - rarely (1-2 times a day).

A questionnaire survey conducted before the start of the experiment with all its participants showed that the subjects have approximately the same level of health and physical fitness. The average duration of conversations on the mobile phone of the participants in the experiment was about 20 minutes per day.

At the beginning of the experiment, the subjects measured their pulse rate and blood pressure. After talking on the phone, the same actions were performed. (Appendix 3)

Revealed a significant increase in pulse rate by 9% and found a significant difference in systolic pressure after 5 minutes of telephone conversation by 7-8%.

Changing the pulse rate is a universal operative neurohumoral response of the whole organism to any influences from the external and internal environment. The pulse rate can increase with stress, nervous excitement, increased emotional and physical stress, fever, and various heart diseases.

The increase in the pulse rate indicates the greatest vulnerability of the cardiovascular system of the subjects in relation to the EMF of mobile communications. This indicates the adverse effects of EMR (electromagnetic radiation) of mobile communications.

In general, after analyzing the changes in the studied physiological parameters, it can be said that the young body is most susceptible to the adverse effects of EMR of cell phones, and therefore it is necessary to limit the duration of calls on mobile communications of children and adolescents and use a cell phone only in case of urgent need.

Studies have shown:

Especially often the respondents noted headaches, pain in the lumbar spine, pain in the neck and shoulder girdle, pain in the thoracic spine, in the wrist, in the elbow joint, sleep disturbance and dizziness while working at the computer;

- almost half of students working on a PC, regardless of age group, reported vision problems.

When working with the phone, headaches, fever in the ear area, vision problems (especially at night with constant communication on VKontakte)

All indicators indicating discomfort of the central nervous system (sleep disturbances, dizziness, headaches) tend to increase as the time of work on the PC increases. A similar trend is observed with signs of visual impairment.

Research findings

Based on the research results, we offer the following recommendations:

To exclude or reduce the levels of exposure to EMF on the human body, it is important to follow a number of important recommendations:

    do not use a cell phone unnecessarily and talk continuously for no more than 3-4 minutes;

When purchasing, choose a cell phone with a lower maximum radiation power.

    exclude a long stay in places with an increased level of the magnetic field of industrial frequency;

    correctly position furniture for rest at a distance of 2-3 meters to electrical distribution boards, power cables, electrical appliances;

    when purchasing household appliances, pay attention to the information on the compliance of the device with the requirements of sanitary standards;

    use appliances of lower electrical power;

    follow sanitary and hygienic norms and rules when working with a PC;

With the constant development of high technologies, an increasing number of sources of harmful rays appear that surround man and nature from all sides. The issues of electromagnetic radiation and its effect on the human body are being discussed today by world-class scientists.

It is not possible to completely limit oneself from the effects of harmful radiation, but it is possible and necessary to prevent their excess, it is enough to understand what it is.

One of the proven facts of the impact of the electromagnetic field is its negative impact not only on human health, but also on his thoughts, behavior and even the psychological component. Scientists came to this conclusion after examining the long-term interaction of waves with the human body. The sources of these waves are all kinds of electronic devices, computers, WI-FI, power lines and much more.

Thus, based on research, experts have identified the theory that developing diseases and pathologies in the human body take place due to the influence of rays from the outside. Moreover, decay products can even cause poisoning of body cells. Fortunately, a person can protect himself and his loved ones from harmful waves, knowing the elementary methods of protection from electromagnetic radiation.

Types of electromagnetic radiation are classified into radio waves, infrared (thermal) radiation, visible (optical) radiation, ultraviolet and hard radiation. IMPORTANT: in this case, the answer to the question "is visible light related to electromagnetic radiation" is positive.

Radio wave sickness

By the beginning of the 60s, specialists managed to discover a new trend in medicine - radio wave sickness. The spectrum of the spread of this disease is very wide - 1/3 of the population. It should be said that in most cases a person is exposed to waves against their will. However, radio wave sickness is already indicated by a number of symptoms, including:

  • headaches;
  • dizziness;
  • increased fatigue;
  • sleep disturbance;
  • depression;
  • distraction of attention.

Since such symptoms refer to many types of diseases, it becomes extremely problematic to diagnose the above. But, like any disease, radio wave is capable of developing and progressing.

As a result of its spread throughout the body, a person runs the risk of developing cardiac arrhythmias, chronic respiratory diseases and even fluctuations in blood sugar levels. This happens through the destruction of the electromagnetic field of a person, affecting even the cells of his body.

This disease manifests itself in different ways depending on the organ or system that it affects:

  1. Nervous system - we are talking about a deterioration in the conductivity of neurons - nerve cells in the brain that are susceptible to the effects of electromagnetic radiation that affects a person. Thus, a deformation occurs in their work, which leads to a violation of conditioned and unconditioned reflexes, deterioration in the functioning of the limbs, the appearance of hallucinations, irritability. There are known cases of suicide attempts against the background of a developing illness.
  2. Immune system - in this case, immunity is suppressed. And the cells responsible for its protection themselves succumb to the influence of electromagnetic waves, thus creating an additional negative influence from all sides.
  3. Blood - electrical frequencies provoke adhesion of blood cells to each other, contributing to the deterioration of blood outflow, the formation of blood clots. Thus, an excess release of adrenaline into the body can occur, which in itself is detrimental to health. There is no need to talk about impaired performance of the cardiovascular system - obvious arrhythmia, the development of plaques in the heart muscle and other types of heart failure, as a negative effect of electromagnetic waves on the human body.
  4. Endocrine system - Since this system is responsible for controlling the functioning of hormones in the body, the influence of electromagnetic fields speaks for itself. A derivative of this effect is the destruction of the liver.
  5. Reproductive system - women are often more exposed to electromagnetic radiation than men. Having an increased sensitivity to outside influences, the female body is able to literally "suck" harmful radiation. This effect is especially dangerous during pregnancy. In the first weeks, the fetus is not firmly attached to the placenta, so there is a high probability of losing connection with the mother with a sharp emission of radiation. With regards to later dates, the statistics are such that electromagnetic radiation affects a change in the genetic code of a child, a deformation of DNA.

EMP consequences

Radio wave sickness takes on new forms every year, expanding and progressing, depending on the number and level of radiation sources. Experts have identified a number of consequences, not only individually, but also in a large-scale sense:

  • Cancer is no secret that oncological diseases manifest themselves under completely different conditions. However, scientists have proven to increase the negative impact of electromagnetic radiation on cancer cells. Thus, studies in Japan have confirmed the presence of an increased risk of childhood leukemia in people whose bedrooms literally "glow" from the presence of electrical appliances and their components.
  • Disorders of the psyche - in recent years, cases of deterioration in the perception of the surrounding world have become more frequent in those who have been exposed to excessive levels of electromagnetic radiation. We are talking not only about the so-called classic symptoms, but also about the developing fear of EMR. Such fear often develops into a phobia, a person begins to panic at the thought that any emission of radiation can provoke painful sensations in one or another organ or part of the body.
  • Stillbirth - according to official figures, today the risk of fetal death increases by 15%, provided that the mother is in constant contact with sources of electromagnetic radiation. In addition to stillbirth, the likelihood of developing pathologies in an unborn child, a slowdown in development, premature birth, and miscarriage increases. This is the effect of electromagnetic radiation on human health and future generations.

In addition to the huge negative effect of electromagnetic radiation on the human body, these waves are capable of poisoning the environment. The most susceptible areas include areas with a large concentration of high-frequency power lines. Often they are located far from residential buildings, however, in individual cases, there is the presence of such power lines near settlements.

The flora and fauna are also negatively affected by harmful rays. In turn, a person eats irradiated animals and foodstuffs and, as a result, receives an additional dose of radiation-contaminated particles into his body. Such a process is extremely difficult to control due to factors independent of a person, but it is still possible to influence it.

Facts

To understand what constitutes the effect of electromagnetic fields on the human body, it is enough to familiarize yourself with the following facts:

  1. Changes in the blood and urine of a 9-year-old child 15 minutes after sitting at the computer coincide with changes in the analyzes of a cancer patient. Teenagers are susceptible to this influence after half an hour of being near a computer. And an adult undergoes a change in analyzes after 2 hours.
  2. The signal from a portable radiotelephone can penetrate the brain up to 37.5 mm.
  3. Electricians are 13 times more likely to develop brain cancer than other professions. The magnetic field level of such workers is practically destroyed.
  4. A 13-year-old child who speaks on the phone for about 2 minutes undergoes a bioelectrical brain change that takes place several hours after the conversation.
  5. Animals, even slightly irradiated with a dose of electromagnetic radiation, began to lag behind in development, acquired pathologies in the body, as with radiation.

The electromagnetic emission limits have the following meanings:

  • Radio waves - ultra-short (0.1mm-1m / 30MHz-300GHz), short (10-100m / 3 MHz-30 MHz), medium (100m-1km / 300kHz-3MHz), long (1km-10km / 30kHz-300kHz), extra long (more than 10 km / less than 30 kHz).
  • Optical radiation - ultraviolet (380-10nm / 7.5 * 10 at 14st Hz-3 * 10 at 16st Hz), visible radiation (780-380nm / 429THz-750THz), infrared radiation (1mm-780nm / 300GHz-429THz) ...
  • Ionizing electromagnetic radiation - X-ray, gamma. A more detailed table of calculations of EMI norms includes additional sources of propagation of harmful waves.

It is not possible to completely protect yourself from the effects of harmful waves. However, today there are a number of factors that can prevent the excessive effect of electromagnetic radiation on the human body:

  1. Purchase of a special dosimeter. Such a detector will help to calculate the most dangerous radiation sources by calculating the frequency of their waves and, as a result, to reduce the time spent near such foci or to completely eliminate them. Devices for measuring electromagnetic fields are available at any home store.
  2. Separation of radiation sources by area. It is not recommended to operate electromagnetic devices in a close radius to each other, otherwise their negative impact on the environment and the human body increases, causing maximum harm.
  3. Isolation of radiation sources. This is, for example, a refrigerator. It is advisable to use it at a distance from the dining table. A similar situation with a computer or laptop: the distance to the place of deployment (sofa, bed) must be at least one and a half meters.
  4. Elimination of toys with EMP. The electromagnetic effect of radio-controlled and electrical attributes for a child's room poses a serious threat to the health of an adult, and is extremely destructive for children. It is recommended to rid the room of radiated EMP toys.
  5. Isolation of the radiotelephone. This technique is capable of emitting harmful waves to a radius of up to 10 meters. It is imperative to remove such electronics as far as possible. This method of protection will protect against the main source of harmful radiation, since the radiotelephone operates 24 hours a day.
  6. Eliminate the purchase of fake phones. The low price of such products is primarily due to the harmful radiation of electromagnetic waves to humans.
  7. Careful selection of household appliances. In this case, we are talking directly about devices with a steel case.

In addition to the above factors, there are well-known simple methods of protection against electromagnetic radiation, the observance of which will also allow you to protect yourself from EMP, reducing the risk of exposure to the lowest indicator:

  • It is not recommended to stay near a working microwave oven, as its waves have an extremely negative impact on the environment when compared to household appliances.
  • It is undesirable to be too close to the monitor.
  • The presence of nearby high-frequency power lines is excluded.
  • It is recommended to avoid excessive amounts of jewelry on the body, which should be removed before going to bed.
  • The presence of electrical appliances, analogue household appliances, equipment and wiring at a distance of 2 meters from the bed is approved.
  • A minimum amount of time is recommended around working electrical appliances and similar equipment.
  • It is undesirable to find inoperative devices in the on state.

Often, people do not attach much importance to the harm caused by electromagnetic radiation from the most common household appliances and other factors surrounding them, since they are not able to see their waves. This feature makes EMP extremely dangerous for the life of all living things.

Having the opportunity to accumulate in the body, harmful rays affect the vital systems, manifesting themselves in a variety of diseases and ailments. The whole scale of this problem, mankind will be able to discern a generation later - only then will the specific impact on the health of those who happened to live their lives surrounded by EMP sources be indicated.

In urban conditions, our body is constantly exposed to electromagnetic radiation.

Electromagnetic radiation is a disturbance of the electromagnetic field that propagates in space. The human body has its own electromagnetic field (also called aura), which contributes to the harmonious work of all organs and systems. If another (more powerful) electromagnetic field begins to act on the human body, this can lead to a disruption in the normal activity of the body, which leads to the development of diseases.

Sources of electromagnetic radiation are household electrical appliances, mobile phones, office equipment, as well as vehicles (electric motors) and power lines.

It is worth noting that the opinion of scientists regarding the effects of electromagnetic waves is ambiguous. Some claim that it is harmful, while others, in the absence of an undeniable evidence base, do not see any harm in electromagnetic radiation.

How does an electromagnetic field work?

The electromagnetic field, which is created by working electrical appliances, is capable of causing the movement of elementary particles: electrons, ions, protons and molecules. In turn, the cells of any living organism (from bacteria to humans) contain a large number of charged molecules (proteins, amino acids, phospholipids, and others). When exposed to a strong electromagnetic field, charged molecules begin to oscillate, which can lead to certain changes in the functioning of cells and the body as a whole.

Growing tissues and embryos are most susceptible to electromagnetic radiation. In addition, there is indirect evidence that electromagnetic radiation negatively affects the functioning of muscle and nervous tissues, contributing to the development of insomnia, as well as disorders of the nervous, cardiovascular and digestive systems.

Electromagnetic fields can be more or less aggressive, depending on the power of the electrical appliance in operation. The higher the power, the higher the aggressiveness of the emitted waves will be.

At the same time, it should be noted that the influence of electromagnetic waves is not necessarily negative. So, in physiotherapy, exposure to electromagnetic radiation is widely used to treat many diseases. A number of devices used in physiotherapy promote wound healing, relieve inflammation and other therapeutic effects.

Household electrical appliances

In order to minimize the harmful effects of electromagnetic waves, some experts give advice on how to correctly position electrical appliances in the living area. Places where a person spends the most time should not fall into the field of action of household appliances. This is a dining table, sofa and sleeping bed. Therefore, many scientists and doctors advise against putting mobile phones and computers near you before going to bed. Some doctors associate frequent sleep disorders with this habit.

The sleeping place should not be placed close to the wall. Maintain a minimum distance of 10 cm, especially if you live in a house with reinforced concrete floors. Floor heating systems that generate electromagnetic waves up to 1 meter are especially harmful to our body. It is better not to install such systems under the bed, but in order to neutralize the negative effects of floor heating systems, you can use special coatings (paints, fabric materials) with a shielding effect.

Power lines and antennas

Today, there are several explanations for the harmful effects of power lines (power lines) on human health. According to one version, high-voltage power lines lead to ionization of dust particles, which in turn enter the human body with inhaled air. The charged particles enter the lungs, where they transfer charges to the lung cells, which disrupts their function. Therefore, in the immediate vicinity of power lines, residential buildings are not built.

As for cellular antennas, the electromagnetic waves that they emit are concentrated in one stream (beam), which is usually directed towards and near nearby buildings. Of course, theoretically, such antennas can harm human health, however, according to studies carried out in different European countries, in more than 90% of cases, the level of electromagnetic radiation was almost 50 times less than the permissible level. Therefore, cellular antennas are relatively safe for human health.

Electromagnetic waves of various ranges are widely used in radar, radio meteorology, radio astronomy, radio navigation, space research, and nuclear physics. In physiotherapy rooms, during the operation of medical equipment, electromagnetic fields arise, the action of which is exposed to personnel.

It is known that radiation sources of radio waves are lamp generators, which convert direct current energy into high frequency alternating current energy. In the working rooms of radio and television stations, sources of high-frequency fields can be insufficiently protected transmitter units, crossover filters and radiating antenna systems. The most pronounced biological effect is exerted by microwave fields. It has been established that centimeter and millimeter waves are absorbed by the skin and, acting on receptors, have a reflex effect on the body.

Radio waves - the electromagnetic fields of radio frequencies - are part of a wide electromagnetic spectrum with wavelengths ranging from a few millimeters to several kilometers. They arise as a result of fluctuations in electric charges. The higher the vibration frequency, the shorter the wavelength. Decimeter waves, penetrating to a depth of 10-15 cm, can directly affect internal organs. In all likelihood, the waves and the UHF range have a similar effect. Distinguish between short, ultra-short (KB, VHF), as well as high, ultra-high frequency (HF, UHF). Electromagnetic waves travel at the speed of light waves. Like sound, they have a resonating property, causing coinciding oscillations in an equally tuned oscillatory circuit. The magnitude of the field generated by generators is characterized by both the strength of the electric field, measured in volts per meter (V / m), and the strength of the magnetic field, which is expressed in amperes per meter (A / m). The intensity expressed in terms of the power flux density (the value of the wave energy in watts falling on 1 cm2 of the body surface per second) is taken as a unit of the intensity of irradiation with centimeter waves. The strength of electromagnetic fields (EMF) in a room depends on the power of the generator, the degree of shielding and the presence of metal coatings in the room.

Pathogenesis

It has now been proven that electrical energy absorbed by the body can cause both thermal and specific biological effects. The intensity of the biological action increases with an increase in the power and duration of the action of EMF, and the severity of the reaction mainly depends on the range of radio frequencies, as well as on the individual characteristics of the organism. Intense irradiation first produces a thermal effect. The influence of high-intensity microwaves is associated with the release of heat in a biological object, which leads to undesirable consequences (heating of organs and tissues, thermal injury, etc.). At the same time, when EMF is below the permissible level, a peculiar specific (non-thermal) effect is observed, manifested by excitation of the vagus nerve and synapses. When exposed to currents of high and ultrahigh frequency, there is a cumulation of the biological effect, resulting in functional disorders in the nervous and cardiovascular systems.

Clinical picture

Depending on the intensity and duration of exposure to radio waves, acute and chronic forms of damage to the body are isolated. Acute injury occurs only in case of accidents or gross violation of safety precautions, when the worker finds himself in a powerful EMF. A temperature reaction is observed (39-40 ° C); shortness of breath appears, a feeling of aches in the arms and legs, muscle weakness, headaches, palpitations. Bradycardia, hypertension are noted. Severe vegetative-vascular disorders, diencephalic crises, attacks of paroxysmal tachycardia, anxiety, repeated nosebleeds, leukocytosis are described.

With chronic exposure, most often patients complain of general weakness, rapid fatigue, decreased performance, sleep disorders, irritability, sweating, headache of uncertain localization. Some people are concerned about pain in the region of the heart, sometimes of a squeezing character radiating to the left arm and scapula, shortness of breath. Painful phenomena in the heart area are more often felt by the end of the working day, after nervous or physical stress. Individuals may complain of darkening in the eyes, dizziness, weakening of memory, attention. An objective study of the nervous system in many patients shows vasomotor lability, increased pilomotor reflex, acrocyanosis, hyperhidrosis, persistent, often red, dermographism, tremor of the eyelids and fingers of outstretched arms, revitalization of tendon reflexes.

All this manifests itself in the form of astheno-vegetative syndrome of varying severity. Shifts in the parasympathetic nervous system are among the most characteristic reactions of the body to the effect of microwave electromagnetic fields. They are expressed in arterial hypotension and a tendency to bradycardia, the frequency and severity of which depend on the intensity of radiation. In working with microwave generators, thermoregulation may be disturbed and other phenomena of vegetative-vascular or diencephalic pathology (low-grade fever, thermoasymmetry, two-humped or flat sugar curve), depression of skin sensitivity to ultraviolet rays is noted. In rare cases, diencephalic syndrome is observed.

The clinical symptomatology of pathological changes on the part of the cardiovascular system resembles a picture of neurocirculatory dystonia, more often of a hypotonic type, changes of a myocardial dystrophic nature are found in the myocardium.

Endocrine metabolic disorders are also manifested against the background of functional disorders of the central nervous system. Often there are shifts in the functional state of the thyroid gland in the direction of increasing its activity. With pronounced forms of pathology, the activity of the gonads is disrupted (dysmenorrhea in women, impotence in men).

Exposure to radio waves is accompanied by changes in peripheral blood parameters, and their instability and lability are often noted. There is a tendency to leukocytosis or, more often, to leukopenia, neutropenia, relative lymphocytosis. There are indications of an increase in the peripheral blood of the number of eosinophils, monocytes and a decrease in the number of platelets. From the side of red blood, a slight reticulocytosis is detected. Microwaves under especially unfavorable working conditions have a damaging effect on the eyes, causing clouding of the lens - microwave cataract. Changes can progress over time. The opacity detected by biomicroscopy is noted in the form of white dots, fine dust, individual filaments located in the anteroposterior layer of the lens, near the equator, in some cases - in the form of chains, plaques and spots. In the diagnosis of occupational diseases, the syndromic classification of microwave field lesions proposed by E.A. Drogichina and M.N. Sadchikova, distinguish vegetative, asthenic, asthenovegetative, angiodystonic and diencephalic syndromes.

General strengthening therapy with the use of sedatives and hypnotics is recommended. Shown are antihistamines, small tranquilizers, glucose with ascorbic acid; biogenic stimulants - tincture of ginseng, Chinese magnolia vine, Eleutherococcus extract. When the symptoms of autonomic dysfunction are combined with asthenic syndrome, it is advisable to alternate intramuscular injections of calcium gluconate and intravenous injections of glucose with ascorbic acid. In case of an increase in blood pressure, antihypertensive drugs are indicated. When functional disorders of the central nervous system (asthenic syndrome with autonomic dysfunction) are combined with changes in peripheral blood, vitamin B6 is prescribed. With a combination of functional disorders of the central nervous system (asthenic syndrome and autonomic dysfunction) with changes in peripheral blood, vitamin B6 is prescribed.

Examination of working capacity

In the absence of an obvious therapeutic effect, as well as in case of severe forms of the disease (severe asthenization, pronounced neurocirculatory disorders, diencephalic insufficiency), after appropriate therapeutic and prophylactic measures, a transfer to a job not associated with exposure to electromagnetic fields is shown, referral to a medical and social examination to determine the degree disability.

In prevention, systematic monitoring of the level of radio emissions, shielding of installations in order to protect workers from radiation and the use of personal protective equipment, preliminary at admission to work and periodic medical examinations with the participation of a therapist, neuropathologist, ophthalmologist, determination of the hemoglobin content in the blood, the number of leukocytes are important , erythrocyte sedimentation rate. Persons employed at work with sources of EMF radio frequencies (millimeter, centimeter, decimeter) are examined once every 12 months; when working with sources of electromagnetic radiation of ultra-high, high, low and ultra-low frequencies - once every 24 months. Additional medical contraindications for employment with high and ultrahigh frequency currents are severe autonomic dysfunction, cataracts, drug addiction, substance abuse, including chronic alcoholism, schizophrenia and other endogenous psychoses.
