Which gate to choose for a hundred. Classification of garage doors, advantages and disadvantages of the proposed models. Automatic garage sectional doors

Garage doors | 10.07.2017

Building a house is a long and laborious process, after which you want to get a safe, warm and comfortable home. High-quality doors are one of the key elements to ensure these characteristics. The company "Alutech" has experience in the production of gates and equipment at the age of 21 and knows exactly how to protect a house from the negative effects of the environment, weather conditions and uninvited guests.

In the article, we will answer the most pressing questions so that you can make the perfect choice for yourself:

  1. What type of garage door is best and what is preferable for the customer?
  2. How many cars will be parked in the garage and at the entrance to it?
  3. What is the preferred lifting method?
  4. What is the door leaf made of?
  5. How is the installation done?
  6. Do you need additional options, or what opportunities does Alutech offer?

Varieties of garage doors, or how not to get lost in offers

The development of all spheres of production allowed us to move to a new level of protection of parking spaces. Swing gates are a classic in this area, gradually losing ground and giving way to more progressive and comfortable designs.

The active development of production makes it possible not only to produce models popular abroad, but also to improve the quality of materials.

At the moment, the Alutech holding produces three types of garage doors:

  • Sectional;
  • Roller shutters or roll-ups;
  • Swing.

Each type has its own advantages, which we will discuss in detail in the article.

The size of the garage, the entrance and the number of parking spaces: a whim of the supplier or the necessary information?

The first question of the measurer about the number and size of cars often provokes a protest from the customer. But such a key characteristic largely determines the type of garage door. Indeed, with a small number of cars and the presence of a wide parking zone on the street, you are practically unlimited in your choice, but the difficult access, the location of the garage on the rise or the low ceilings of the building significantly narrow the range of options.

The measurer, upon leaving the site, will tell you about the nuances of the structure and the possibilities of assembly.

Here is a list of significant obstacles to the installation of certain types of gates:

  • sectional - NOT mounted in garages with a headliner less than 100 mm for manual control and 120-150 mm for automatic;
  • sandwich panels - NOT installed if there are communications under the garage ceiling;
  • swing doors - NOT recommended in rooms with difficult access (sharp rise, lack of space in front of the garage);
  • automatic equipment is rarely installed on swing doors;
  • roller shutters - NOT used in places with increased wind load.

It is precisely because of the technical nuances that it is so important to accurately understand and see all the features of your garage.

Features of the entrance and the need for free space

On private estates, as a rule, there is a place for free entry, but sometimes it happens that the parking lot is located at a bend or the entrance is carried out directly from the road. Such restrictions are inconvenient even for the most experienced drivers, and also make it difficult to enter. The choice in favor of sectional or roller shutter gates will free the entrance from additional obstacles in the form of swing leaves.

When installing swing gates, the master will offer you to decide on the opening method: inward or outward. But with either method, you will need a lot of free additional space.

For comfortable use of a garage for one car, its minimum size should be 2.5x5 meters. Since the average length of the car is 4.5 m, you only have 0.5 m left to close the doors. In this case, the width of one sash will be 1.25 m.

When choosing an external method of opening the doors, you will need a territory for an entrance with a length of 1.5 meters.

Thus, the presence of a small garage or the lack of space for entry automatically cancels the possibility of installing a swing structure.

It should be understood that an uneven entrance will significantly complicate the assembly of sectional doors. A snug fit to the floor is a guarantee of high-quality burglary protection. If your driveway is covered in gravel and there is no flat floor in the room itself, then the gate cannot guarantee security.

How the dimensions of the opening affect the design of the gate

A garage for two cars has dimensions that differ many times from standard ones, so the swing structure threatens with constant problems with opening. The owner will have to manually open heavy doors with a width of 1.5 meters, and if you live in the house all year round, then the opening-closing cycle occurs at least 2-4 times a day.

High-quality aluminum roller shutters are made up to 7 meters in length and more. They are lightweight and durable, however, under strong wind loads, doors that are too wide may not withstand.

Alutech roll-up gates with a width of more than 7m can withstand wind gusts up to 25.5 m / s. Roller shutters up to 5.5 m long are wind-resistant enough to withstand gusts at a speed of 37.7 m / s.

Sandwich panel doors are good both in narrow and wide versions. The manufacturer produces panels up to 6 m long, and reliable automation easily lifts even a heavy canvas.

The height of the lintel: what is it, and why is it so important?

Headroom height is the distance between the top edge of the entrance and the ceiling. It is important, since the opening mechanism is mounted precisely under the ceiling.

A box with an octagonal shaft does not take up much space, therefore roller shutters can be mounted with a minimum height of the ceiling space.

The height of the lintel for sectional doors is extremely important, since the entire leaf rises upward:

  • for doors up to 8 m 2, the minimum lintel size is 100 mm for the manual mechanism and 125 mm for the automatic.
  • for doors with an area of more than 8 m 2, the headroom should be 210 mm for manual control, 250 mm for automatic.

The difference in lintel width affects the type of balancing springs (torsion springs take up more space than tension springs).

Automatic or manual control: which one to choose?

When our specialists are asked: "Which garage doors are better to install?", They no doubt answer: "Automatic!" And not only because the Alutech holding cooperates with the best engine manufacturers, but mainly because it is very pleasant to open the garage from the remote control in winter and in bad weather.

The remote control allows the driver to open the garage without leaving the wheel.

A qualitatively new level of parking is provided by an automatic opening system. You do not have to lift a heavy canvas every time or get out of the car in the rain; to enter a covered room, you just need to press a button on the remote control. In addition, the automatic wire can be supplemented with accessories that will make operation even more convenient:

  • photocells, optosensors, signal lamps will ensure the safety of the user;
  • digital switches, contactless readers will restrict unauthorized access;
  • radio control offers a wide range of options for the user.

Alutech works every day to improve the efficiency of its products. All gates are equipped with:

  • anti-pinching system;
  • sensitive edge to protect against closing when a person or vehicle is hit.

You can put electronics on your garage door at any time. If you are on a budget now, automate it after a while.

What role does the size of the opening play?

It is not so much the possibility of free passage of cars that depends on the width and height, but the possibility of assembling a particular structure. After all, the larger the opening, the greater the weight of the canvas.

Automation also depends on the weight, the motors are designed for a certain size and weight of the canvas.

For sectional doors:

  • An-Motors drives are designed for a blade area of up to 8.4 - 16 m 2, depending on the model;
  • Marantec manufactures motors for areas up to 7.5 - 15 m 2, depending on the series and model;
  • Comunello manufactures equipment capable of lifting a canvas up to 8.4 - 16 m 2.

Automatic equipment for roller shutter systems is produced at Alutech's own production. Differences in power are related to the diameter of the shaft on which the web is wound.

Swing gates are installed only with manual control due to technical problems when opening. Therefore, more and more users are switching to lifting mechanisms.

Canvas: what is it made of, how it is protected and how it is fixed

Sectional door leaf is assembled from high-strength sandwich panels. A high-quality three-layer coating is able to protect the steel surface not only from corrosion, but also from mechanical damage.

Studies show that such a coating can withstand 15 years of operation in the coastal marine area. The company's craftsmen achieved such results thanks to the use of a primer layer (10-15 microns), zinc coating (16 microns) and a new polyurethane coating with modified polyamide particles 20-25 microns thick.

Alutech produces 2 series of sectional systems:

  • series "Trend";
  • series "Classic".

They differ in thickness and, accordingly, in thermal insulation parameters.

"Trend" series are 40 mm thick sandwich panels filled with polyurethane foam. A special system of fastening in a "lock" using 4 self-tapping screws excludes delamination of the panels over time. At the same time, the company has implemented safety systems to protect against pinching of fingers, cuts and snags.

Our own production helps to make all the wishes of the client come true. Alutech offers an assortment of 5 canvas patterns and 10 colors, while the width and length of the sandwich panel can be selected in 5 mm increments.

The "Classic" series is distinguished by increased thermal insulation properties due to the panel thickness of 45 mm. In terms of thermal protection, such panels are identical to a brick wall 60 mm thick.

All materials for roller shutter gates are manufactured at our own production facility "Alutech". This advantage allows not only to control the process, but also to introduce new developments in a timely manner.

In 2006, the holding began to use roller forming lines to produce elements without damaging the steel coating.

Thanks to continuous improvement, roller shutters are not subject to corrosion and are particularly resistant to abrasion. Foam-filled aluminum tape is coated with two layers of polyurethane paint, which provides long-lasting protection from fading, chipping and scratching.

A wide range of colors will delight aesthetes. 16 basic colors will allow you to choose the perfect option for your home.

Editing: should you hire professionals?

Sandwich panel gates are assembled on site. A complete set of disassembled parts comes to the customer. The assembly scheme is simple, but we advise you to hire professionals.

Professional assembly is a guarantee of durability and safety. The installers know exactly how structural elements are fastened together and will not make mistakes.

You can also order the service "preparation of the opening" or align it yourself. The measurer will point out the shortcomings of entry at the time of ordering.

For the installation of sectional doors, work is required to level the opening.

The manufacturer "Alutech" offers 10 types of installation, depending on the width of the lintel and the configuration of the roof:

  • standard - the canvas rises at an angle of 90 degrees above the upper edge of the opening, the shaft is located at the bend;
  • low - the shaft is located at the end of the structure;
  • inclined (high and low, with a lower and upper shaft location) - the panels go up at an inclination of 30 degrees, the shaft is located at the bend (upper location) or below the bend (lower);
  • high (with a lower and upper shaft) - the canvas first rises along the entire length of the lintel, and then bends and goes under the ceiling. This method of installation frees up the space under the ceiling;
  • vertical (with lower and upper shaft arrangement) - more suitable for industrial premises. The canvas goes vertically upward, in another way it is called the guillotine method.

Roller shutter gates assembly consists of guides assembly and shaft fastening. Placing the shaft outdoors requires a protective box to prevent corrosion of the mechanism. Indoors, open installation of the mechanism is possible.

The installation process for swing gates is the simplest. The product is delivered to the site in the assembly, you only need to attach the doors using three oarlocks.

Advantage of Alutech doors in a wide range of options

The manufacturer Alutech cares about its customers, therefore it offers a wide range of additional options:

  • wicket (built-in and free-standing);
  • windows and vents;
  • lock and mechanism for unlocking the drive.

To select the options and accessories you need, you need to learn more about them.

Wicket door - easy access to the garage

For mortise wickets, you can choose one of three threshold options:

  • flat (18-20 mm) for easy entry of strollers and bicycles;
  • low (100 mm) meets all fire safety rules;
  • high (145 mm) - for large canvases.

The built-in wicket is a comfortable entrance to the garage for guests and owners. Moreover, it does not make the structure heavier. The narrow frame brightens up the joints and gives the gate an aristocratic look.

The leaf position sensor will not allow the lifting mechanism to turn on if the built-in wicket is open or not tightly closed.

If it is impossible to install a built-in wicket, then we suggest paying attention to the side door. The manufacturer will make it from panels that are in harmony with the main canvas.

Installation of mortise gates on roller shutters is impossible due to technical characteristics.

Sectional door accessories

Taking care of your property is one of the main tasks of a person. To ensure not only the protection of the premises, but also the convenience of use, Alutech proposes to install additional options:

  • windows will provide the room with daylight;
  • ventilation holes will help to carry out natural air exchange;
  • the mechanism for unlocking the electric drive is a system for transferring to manual mode in case of a power outage;
The length of the cable for the unlocking mechanism is 4500 mm. Pay attention to this when ordering a large size canvas.
  • the lock is an additional guarantee of security for your home, it will also help to switch the opening system to manual mode.

Rolling shutters offer a wide range of options for the user. Ventilation and observation shutters provide lighting and ventilation no worse than specialized openings in sandwich panels. Extruded profiles are available in 12 colors, pay attention to this when choosing.

How to make a choice among the offered variety

Hello friends! Don't know which door, sectional or roll-up, to put in the garage or shed? From our article you will learn 5 main differences between rolling and sectional doors, which will help you make the right choice.

Sectional garage doors consist of sandwich panels (sections) filled with foam, the thickness is usually 40-45mm. They have high durability, perfectly retain heat, and are installed in the overlay from the inside of the garage. They can be lifted manually, they can be driven, it is possible to embed a wicket. The most common type of gate in Russia, and generally in countries with cold climates.

The curtain of such gates consists of narrow profiles that are bunched into a roll. The thickness of the canvas is only 1-2cm. The gates are compact, relatively inexpensive, but do not keep heat well; it is not recommended to install them in heated rooms. Due to the small thickness of the blade, it is easy to deform or open them.

The first difference. Appointment of the garage.

Sectional doors are available for domestic and industrial use. The difference between them, primarily in the resource, due to the use of reinforced structural elements, guides made of thicker steel, reinforced roller loops, additional safety elements.

Rolling shutters do not have an industrial series; in principle, they are not designed for intensive use.

If you have an ordinary household garage in the country, or in a cottage, then there is no point in overpaying for an industrial series. The resource of ordinary household sectional or rolling shutters will last for many years. However, if you need to close an opening, for example, to a sink (read the article What gates to choose for a sink) where the gates will be driven back and forth every 15 minutes, the household series will not last long there.

The second difference. Gates to a heated or cold garage.

And so, if you plan to maintain a positive temperature in the garage, then we strongly recommend opting for warm sectional doors. Thanks to the thick sandwich panel filled with polyurethane foam, the doors have the same thermal insulation capacity as a 50-60cm thick brick wall. Rolling shutters, firstly, will not keep warm in the garage, and secondly, with a large temperature difference, inside and outside the garage, they will be covered with ice and stop working.

The photo shows how much more massive the sandwich panel is than the roller shutter profile.

In addition to the thickness of the profile, the number of joints between the sections must be taken into account. In the case of rolling gates, there are ten times more of them. In addition, in sectional doors, the panel has a rubber seal along the entire length of the joint, which the roller shutter profile lacks. Due to the large thickness, sectional doors are much stronger than roll-up doors and are harder to break.

The third difference. Dimensions of the garage door opening.

Finally, we come to such an important characteristic of garage doors as the size of the opening.

For rolling shutters

Manufacturing factories produce rolling gates for openings up to 6 meters wide and up to 3 meters high (up to 5 meters on request). In this case, the area of the canvas should not exceed 18m2. With an increase in the size of the opening, the price of such gates increases greatly, and reliability, for a number of reasons, decreases. For large openings, it is often more profitable to order sectional doors, since the difference in price, in percentage terms, will be insignificant.

For sectional doors

Household sectional doors can be made for openings up to 6 meters wide and 3 meters long. All that is more, it is already industrial series, or in the language of professionals, "promki". Industrial gates can be up to 8 meters wide and 8 meters high, but the opening area should not exceed 48m2.

The fourth difference. Manual or automatic drive of the garage door.

For residential sectional doors

There are two options for residential sectional doors - manual lifting and electric doors. At Dorhan's it is also possible to equip the household gates with a chain reducer. Thanks to the balancing spring, the door can be easily opened by hand. Therefore, those who want to save 10-15 thousand rubles (and this is how much a household gate drive costs) can open the gate manually. We are often asked, is it possible to install the drive later? Yes, you can, and it is completely painless, in contrast to rolling gates (more on this later). The household gate operator is suspended from the ceiling and is called overhead. They differ in power and are designed for different gate areas (from 7 to 22 m2). They also differ in the length of the rail (the longer the rail, the greater the height of the canvas can be lifted). For gates with a large height (more than 3.2 m), an extension rail - "stick" is used. Only the Germans make a "stick", and it costs 5 thousand rubles.

Another difference is that the drive can be belt or chain. The belt drive is no worse, but on the contrary has advantages - noiselessness and smooth running. Belts are just as durable as chains and are usually found in more expensive models. All drives are equipped with an unlocking mechanism for manual lifting, according to the principle of "pull the string, the door will open".

The price for the most unpretentious Chinese meat is 9 thousand rubles, the average price for an Italian-made drive (Came, Nice, Faac) is 15 thousand rubles. The Germans, as always, are the most expensive of all, (Marantec, Hoermann) - from 15 to 22 thousand rubles. The set, depending on the manufacturer, includes 1 or 2 remote controls.

Sectional doors are designed for manual lifting at no additional cost.

For industrial sectional doors.

For industrial doors, the electric drive is fundamentally different. Unlike a household one, it is located on a shaft, and therefore is called a shaft. Industrial drives are more powerful, designed for more intensive work (number of opening / closing cycles per hour). The cost depends on the area of your gate. The simplest industrial drive (for gates up to 18m2) will cost you 22 thousand rubles. The drive, for a gate up to 30m2, will cost 30 thousand rubles.

Industrial drives must not be installed on household gates, they do not have a door leaf locking mechanism! This means that anyone on the street can lift the gate.

The chain reducer is cheap and reliable.

It is often cheaper and more convenient to install a chain gear on industrial facilities. It is more affordable (5 thousand rubles), raises the gate faster, and rarely breaks, due to the fact that there is nothing special to break there. For example, for service or washing, a chain reducer will be much more appropriate than an electric drive.

For rolling shutters

Roller gates with an electric drive are 3-6 thousand rubles more expensive. more expensive than manual. If you want to control the automation from the button, add another 3-4 thousand rubles here. for remote control. In order to be able to raise the canvas in the absence of voltage or engine breakdown, there is an emergency lifting device (NHK), costing 2-3 thousand rubles. For rolling shutters, both the manual and the electric drive are hidden inside the shaft, so it is impossible to change the control. We'll have to change the shaft, and this will cost a pretty penny. Therefore, decide right away what to order.

The fifth difference. Prices for rolling and sectional doors.

The last and decisive factor. As we can see from the diagram below, roll-up gate cheaper than household sectional ones by 10-20 thousand. But they are less durable, they are easier to crack, they do not hold heat, they have less resource.

Household sectional doors, perhaps, will be the best option for summer residents, owners of garages, small workshops, warehouses. In general, where there is no high opening intensity (more than 10 times a day). In this case, residential gates are optimal in terms of price-quality ratio.

Well, for car washes, car services, large hangars and warehouses, parking lots, parking lots are suitable industrial sectional doors... Yes, not a cheap treat. But the resource at these gates is not comparable to ordinary household ones. This is achieved by using reinforced structural units - the springs have an increased diameter of the coil, and the wire. The guides have increased steel thickness, more massive brackets and rollers are used. The ropes on the "wet" lines have a larger diameter in comparison with their household counterparts.

By the way, the price also varies, depending on the gate manufacturer. There are only three large manufacturers - Herman (Germany), Alutech (Belarus) and Dorhan (Russia). Whom to choose read.

Summarize

suitable for cold garages, in those places where there is not enough space for the installation of sectional structures. They are also good for openings that unite warm rooms, for example between warehouses or workshops. For the vast majority of garages, warm or cold, car washes, services, they are ideal sectional doors, due to mechanical strength, thermal insulation, long service life, maintainability, and a price that is not much higher than the price of rolling shutters.

We hope we have answered most of your questions about how to choose a garage door, and which is better, sectional or roll-up doors.

Each design has its own advantages and disadvantages. Actually, that's why they exist on the market. If you need personal advice, advice on the selection of gates, assistance in preparing the opening, call or leave a request through the feedback form. We are always happy to help you!

Seven types of such structures are produced: swing, retractable, folding, roll, lift-roll, lift-and-rotate and sectional. The greatest demand is still for hoist-and-rotary and sectional ones. Swing and sliding were well known to us before, they are still produced mainly by domestic companies. For some reason, a practical Western consumer did not accept these models.

Swing

Requires a rigid frame and tandem drive, as well as plenty of headspace carefully cleared of snow and debris. Equipped with two flaps that swing forward or inward. They are fixed on hinges to posts or to a built-in frame. Sheathed in any suitable material. Embedding of an additional small one is allowed. It is convenient to use it when there is no need to take the car out.

Recoil

The metal plate covering the entrance rolls to the side. Therefore, they need additional room width to accommodate the canvas outside the opening. Whereas free space in front of them is not required to open the door. They can be equipped with automatics, used as entrance in the fence. They have a large margin of safety and are resistant.

Folding

They consist of several sections, they can open to the side or up. The tilt angle, depending on the number of elements, varies from 90 to 180 °. The room for them should be slightly larger in volume. We need a margin of length and width so that the vertical flaps can fold freely "like an accordion". In addition, a margin of width or height is also required to accommodate the plate drive mechanism.

Roll

A relatively new development. Consists of narrow (up to 150 mm) profiled horizontal strips (lamellas), pivotally connected to each other in a flexible strip. It is wound on a shaft fixed above the entrance. The cloth rises vertically, so snow drifts are not terrible. The car can drive up to the garage very close.

The thickness of double-walled lamellas with a heat-insulating filler in the inner cavity cannot exceed 25 mm. Otherwise, the roll in which the lamellae are folded becomes too large in diameter. It flexes and gets stuck in the side vertical rails. Roll-to-roll devices are used for low openings, often equipped with a manual drive.

Lifting-rolling

They look like roll-to-roll. Only the blade rolls over the drive sprocket, as in a chain drive. It is placed under the ceiling when open. To do this, guide rails are installed along the opening and under the ceiling on the sides, and each lamella is equipped with two support rollers.

The narrower the lamellas, the better the panel bends, which means that the height of the lintel may be less. On the other hand, the number of joints between plates and rollers increases, heat and waterproofing deteriorates, and access becomes easier for a burglar.

Lift-and-turn

It successfully combines strength and ease of opening in manual and automatic modes with relative cheapness. This is a one-piece flat canvas for the entire area of the opening (no more than 62.2 m). It rises, fits under the ceiling using the linkage mechanism. The weight of the device is balanced by springs mounted on the sides in protective covers.

The sheet is made of galvanized painted steel with a thickness of 0.8 mm. Due to the lack of guides, there are a number of additional advantages. They open almost silently. The plate can be pressed tightly against the frame, which improves the tightness. The height of the lintel (from the top of the opening to the ceiling) can be reduced to 60 mm. However, the used motion pattern (kinematics) creates a number of inconveniences for the owner.

When entering, the car cannot approach the garage closer than 1 m, otherwise the rising plane may touch the car. On the side of the entrance, it is necessary to make a sill so that the gate plate can be pressed against it when closing. The threshold is low (up to 30 mm), but the car still experiences a slight jolt on it. During the repair, the entire panel changes, partial replacement is impossible.

Sectional

So far, they remain the most common. The cloth is composed of horizontally arranged sections. Therefore, when opening, it moves vertically upward and retracts under the ceiling, as in the case of lifting and rolling. In this case, the sections can be wide (up to 500 mm), so only 4-6 of them are required. This reduces the number of joints between sections, increases rigidity, and improves thermal insulation properties.

Systems are produced in only two sections. For strength, they are connected with hinge hinges, and so that the plate cannot be forcibly lifted during burglary, separate side guides are made for the top. The sections are made of galvanized and primed sheet steel with a thickness of 0.8-1 mm and are single-walled, for cold garages, and double-walled insulated, 42 mm thick.

In the recommendations on how to choose a sectional door, it is emphasized that the insulation should have low water absorption. Otherwise, condensation formed at the interface between heat and cold flows inside it can disrupt the operation of the equipment in winter. A good, if not the best, insulation is polyurethane foam.

2. Assess the climatic conditions in your region

A warm room is a guarantee that the car will not need to be warmed up for a long time in winter, and also worry that parts will rust and fail prematurely. able to maintain a comfortable temperature in the room day after day, protect property from frost, high humidity and wind.

So, assembled from sandwich panels with a thickness of 40 or 45 mm, in terms of thermal conductivity, it is comparable to a brick wall of 55 or 60 cm, respectively. Additional thermal insulation is provided by a special seal around the perimeter of the panel. Moreover, due to the impressive thickness of the sandwich panels, the structures can withstand wind gusts of up to 120 km / h.

At the same time, they are reliably protected from rust and minor mechanical damage due to the application of zinc coating, polyurethane primer, and a decorative layer with polyamide particles (PUR-PA) to the surface of steel sheets of sandwich panels. The use of galvanized or stainless steel hardware also helps to extend the service life.

3. Make sure it's safe

When deciding which garage door to choose, it is important to make sure they are safe. Especially if there are children and pets in the house. For example, the minimum clearance between sandwich panels or lamellas should prevent fingers or clothing from getting caught. The absence of sharp edges on the elements ensures cut protection. Another important element for safe operation is the traction cables, which can withstand a load of 6 times the weight of the plate.

A serious question about the resistance of equipment to burglary. Unfortunately, attempts to find gates that are beautiful, elegant and durable as armor have been unsuccessful. Nothing will save you from a serious thief (and safes are opened). But the system must resist the attack attempt as long as possible. At least 10 minutes for the police to arrive at the alarm signal. must be included in the general security alarm system at home. It is helpful to install multiple latches and bolts in different locations.

4. Select the type of control

Garage doors are forced to work every day and in any weather. Automation helps to make the process of their operation as convenient as possible. It allows you to open and close the structure without leaving the car. The electric drive can be switched on manually, from a stationary push-button station or using a radio signal from a remote control from a distance of up to 30-50 m.

Electric drives from different companies are structurally different, but all are characterized by low power (from 150 to 450 W). When working "to open" the locks are automatically opened, the panel is pulled under the ceiling or the sash is thrown open. On closing, the opposite is true. The use of traction belts saves you from worrying about their lubrication, which tends to drip onto the roof of the car.

The design and composition of drive devices and automatic control systems significantly affect the overall cost. Usually the price of a basic kit is called, which includes a frame, a blade, a manual drive and locks. Be prepared to pay extra for each additional item.

5. Find the optimal color

The harmonious combination of garage doors with the building facade and other protective structures is very important. You don't want the exterior of your home to look sloppy, do you?

Manufacturers offer a wide range of equipment design options: various canvas patterns, textures, a rich palette of colors according to RAL and Deutsche Bahn catalogs. In addition, a list of options is offered: built-in wickets, windows, panoramic glazing and ventilation grilles.

6. Select size

Standard equipment dimensions

Installation of equipment

Installation is possible at any time of the year, in any condition of the interior decoration. In this case, only the preparedness of the opening and the accuracy of its dimensions are important, which should be 20-25 mm larger than the outer dimensions of the frame. When installing the shutters behind the inlet, its width is usually made 30-50 mm less than the width of the panel.

To accommodate the drive mechanism, the typical lintel height is 400-500 mm, but if necessary, you can find a model that requires a lintel with a height of 60-100 mm. Weak openings can be additionally reinforced with welded structures. The lower edge is usually installed at the level of the finished floor (with the exception of lifting and slewing devices).

Installation technology includes six stages: installation of guides or frames; checking the position of the web; installation of the drive; connecting it to the canvas; installation of the automation system and general control with adjustment. The main difficulty is to expose the frame and guides, while avoiding the skew of the plate. To do this, you have to adjust the position of the support anchors. These brackets are attached to building structures with dowels or concreted in them.

Installation instructions using the example of a lift-and-turn model:

  1. Having previously fastened the fastening bracket in the middle of the left pillar with a bolt, install the sash with the frame in the opening at the required distance at the level of the finished floor mark. For safe work, support them on the outside with boards.
  2. Drill a hole in the wall with a diameter of 12 mm and a depth of 120 mm for the dowel, in place through the hole in the anchor.
  3. After checking the position of the frame again, fix the middle anchor with a dowel (diameter 8 mm, length 80 mm).
  4. Attach the top left anchor to the frame, align it vertically and permanently fix this anchor to the wall with a dowel.
  5. Align the frame horizontally in level, then set the right upright at the same distance from the face of the opening as for the left upright and secure it in the upper right corner in the same way.
  6. Having slightly overturned the sash, check the tightness of its adhesion to the base by the size of the light gap between it and the threshold. If necessary, moving the frame at the bottom, achieve an even fit, attach it to the floor at the bottom corners.
  7. After fixing the base on the anchors located in the middle of its posts, open the sash completely and adjust the tension of the springs by hooking them into different holes of the suspension.
  8. Using pencil "serifs" from the corners of the structure on the ceiling, draw a perpendicular to its middle.
  9. Place the drive boom along the drawn line and attach it first to the wall and then to the ceiling using hangers and dowels.
  10. Fastening the rods to the upper part of the blade with bolts, connect them with cables to the mechanisms for automatic opening of locks and emergency opening.
  11. Adjust the position of the actuator limit switches in the open and closed positions using the adjusting screws on the actuator housing.
  12. Check the operation of the system first in manual mode, then carry out the same operations with the remote control.
  13. Pour concrete under the threshold. After it has hardened, builders can proceed with the finishing of the slopes, threshold, floor and the gap above the sash.

  • The lever drive resembles a human arm bent at the elbow, which is connected by a movable hinge.

  • Today, many want to purchase, for the simple reason that they are famous for their simple design, moreover, they are ideal for the implementation of the idea associated with their installation. After all, you can do the work yourself if you follow only some of the stages of the work.

Types of automatic gates

Which garage doors will be better in your particular case, we will now consider in detail. Indeed, any product has its positive and negative sides.

Attention: But remember that such gates are not able to provide complete and effective sealing of the interior, moreover, it creates serious problems associated with keeping warm in winter.

  • You don't need any space outside the garage to open it. But there is also a drawback, you must have free space for the length of the canvas away from the room. When choosing, you need to pay special attention to this.
  • This design is quite resistant to wind gusts. Do not worry now that the door leaf will scratch the car.
  • Automation for such gates will be much cheaper than swing gates.
  • , and it is not so difficult, in comparison with other automatic gates.

Automatic lifting gates

Such gates are considered the most effective, they can permanently solve the problem associated with saving space, so you can safely purchase them, knowing for sure that they are. Reasonability and functionality are considered important advantages of such designs.

In general, lifting structures have many varieties, which means that, if you wish, you can choose the structure of this type that suits you perfectly. Or make them yourself (see).

  • As soon as the first frost occurs, the owner of such structures immediately faces some serious problems, this concerns the icing of the doors, freezing of the canvas to the floor, etc.

Lifting and turning gates

It is customary to make such gates from a solid sheet, the basis of such structures is a sandwich panel, it can also be a thin layer of corrugated board. They are able to provide a snug fit to the door frame, as a result, you can enjoy the excellent sealing of the garage.

  • As soon as such gates are raised, the canvas is hidden inside the garage under the ceiling, which, of course, is convenient. This is achieved thanks to the articulated lever mechanism.
  • You will certainly appreciate the silent movement of the shield, which makes such a design popular and widespread, this is burglary resistance, as well as a snug fit to the frame, therefore, purchasing such a design, you will appreciate these advantages as you should.

Attention: The quick wear of the springs is considered a disadvantage of such designs, it is also not cheap, which means that not everyone can afford to buy it.

Automatic garage sectional doors

  • Doors should exceed the width of the doorway by about 30-50 mm. After all, this is the most important condition, which means that it should be taken into account without fail.
  • As soon as the structure rises, the canvas begins to refract, after which it is neatly folded under the ceiling, this is done either vertically or horizontally, possibly at an angle.
  • If the need arises, you can always make a door in the gate, but be sure to take into account that this will lead to a serious increase in the price of the product, but if this does not frighten you, then, of course, problems should not arise.
  • designed for the garage are famous for their versatility, compactness, durability and practicality, which means that you will appreciate them in any case.

What are the sectional garage doors?

Depending on the control method, sectional garage doors can be manual or automatic.

The first option is the cheapest. However, to open and close the sash, you will have to independently set the mechanisms in motion while inside the garage. Manual sectional doors are usually installed with a limited budget, as well as in cases where there is not enough space for mounting power units.

Electrically driven designs are much more convenient to operate. Automatic sectional doors can be controlled both stationary (using wall modules) and remotely (using remote controls).

If necessary, you can install photocells and set the system for fully automatic operation. However, this type of gate operation is rarely used for safety reasons.

How to choose a garage door manufacturer

Sectional garage doors are supplied to the Russian market by various domestic and foreign manufacturers. Among them: Alutech (Belarus), DoorHan (Russia), Hormann (Germany), Torque Force and FlexiForce (Holland), Ryterna (Lithuania) and others.

If you study in detail the characteristics of sectional doors and the nuances that accompany the operation of structures of popular brands (there is a comparative analysis in one of our articles), as well as familiarize yourself with consumer reviews on the forums, we can conclude that for use in central Russia and in regions with in a harsh climate, it is better to choose products of domestic and Belarusian concerns.

You can also find a detailed overview of Alutech products on our website.

What should be the size of the garage door

The width of the garage door is the most important parameter in determining the availability of free space for maneuvers. For one small vehicle, a standard sash (2.5 m) will do. In garages intended for several cars or a large-sized car, structures with a width of 3–6 m and more are installed.

The height of the garage door is a less significant indicator, equal to the height of the opening. To install a structure with an electric drive, it is necessary to provide for the presence of free space in the ceiling area.

You will find the formulas for calculating the penetration depth (W) for various types of installation of structures in a special article on the dimensions of sectional doors.

Which profile is best for a garage door

Sectional door leaves consist of sandwich panels. They are made of galvanized sheets, between which a polyurethane foam or polyester insulation is placed. Decorative coatings are applied to external and internal surfaces.

To protect the premises from the penetration of cold air, special plugs are used. Thanks to them, the panels fit snugly together.

If, when choosing a sectional garage door, you are mainly concerned with the temperature that will be maintained in the room, pay attention to the thickness of the sandwich panels.

  • 20 mm. A canvas of this thickness is suitable for installation in unheated garages. Cold sectional doors are commonly found in car parks and underground car parks.
  • 35–45 mm. Warm panels are best suited for heated garages and garages. Such gates will maintain an acceptable indoor temperature during the cold season.

To expand the functionality, manufacturers equip the canvases with various additional devices and accessories. It can be:

  • wickets;
  • window;
  • side doors;
  • locks for locking and unlocking drives;
  • external handles, etc.

Choose additional options depending on your needs and the desired appearance.

Manufacturers also offer various design options for the rolls. For example, the Alutech concern produces 6 types of sandwich panels: S-corrugated, L-corrugated, M-corrugated, Filenka and Microwave. Choose what you like. The technical characteristics of the differently designed panels are identical.

Which automation to choose for sectional doors

The choice of automation for sectional doors mainly depends on the dimensions of the door leaf. For trouble-free operation of a standard sash (2 * 4 m), a 500 W drive will be enough. To set in motion large-sized structures, more powerful power units are needed.

Also pay attention to the possibility of installing additional equipment. For example, antennas will increase the signal reception area from the remote control, and bright lamps that work when the canvas is moving are needed to ensure safety.

Photocells for automatic gate opening, as already mentioned, are rarely installed, but no one forbids doing this. This option of operation is relevant if the garage and the surrounding area are guarded and monitored.

The most popular manufacturers of sectional door automation are An-Motors, Nice, Marantec and Came. When choosing systems, first of all, pay attention to the products of these concerns.

Sectional door colors

Sectional doors come in a variety of colors. When choosing a shade, consider how the canvas will be combined with the design of the garage and the facade of the house.

Manufacturers paint sectional doors in standard colors from the RAL catalog and use original decorative options. The most interesting solutions are offered by the concerns Alutech and Hormann, however, German designs are not popular in Russia due to their unjustified high cost.

Sectional doors will better cope with the assigned tasks and will work without interruption for the longest possible period if you use the professional tips below.

  • Don't skimp on automation. Buy only high quality drives with a long warranty
  • Do not neglect safety requirements. Sectional doors must be equipped with protection systems:
    • from the fall of the sash when the spring breaks;
    • uncontrolled movement of sandwich panels;
    • cuts and snags;
    • pinching fingers (especially important for automatic models).
  • Order the installation only from professionals. Often, installation work performed independently leads to distortions and a rapid failure of structures. Buying turnkey sectional garage doors from a reliable construction company means getting well-installed equipment and a guarantee for the work performed.
