Choosing a lamp for the toilet. How to arrange lamps in the bathroom: everything about the correct placement of light What kind of lighting to choose in the toilet

Depending on personal preferences and the usable area of the bathroom, the brightness of the lighting and the type of lamps are selected. The light in the bathroom should be comfortable and sufficient for the operation of plumbing fixtures.

The light in the bathroom should be comfortable and sufficient for the operation of plumbing fixtures

As a rule, in urban conditions, a bathroom is characterized by an almost complete absence of natural, natural light, therefore, all kinds of lamps are used for artificial lighting. Shaving and applying makeup in front of a mirror, as well as showering and doing laundry, will require directional or localized lighting.

Rules for the distribution of light in the bathroom

When planning and organizing the space in the bathroom on your own, it is important to divide the room into certain zones that have their own lighting. Such sites can be represented:

  • plumbing fixtures;
  • shower cubicle;
  • sink;
  • mirror;
  • cabinets and shelves;
  • household appliances, including a washing machine.

Of course, not every bathroom has the ability to equip the above zoning. For example, in rooms that are too small in size, there is no place for placing household appliances or pieces of furniture.

Lamps on the wall

Wall lamps can be presented:

  • slightly protruding shades, fixed with a minimum distance from the surface;
  • wall sconces, the lampshade part of which is fixed on a special bracket;
  • pendant-type sources, made in a bowl-like form and fixed on special suspensions.

The design of the bathroom, made with architectural elements, represented by pedestals, steps or niches, is original. Light sources installed in such areas are an excellent complement to wall lights.

General lighting of the ceiling in the bathroom

The most important in the room is overhead lighting, which is planned depending on the general style and characteristics of the ceiling used. If in a small room it will be enough to install a single ceiling lamp, then in a large space of a room with high humidity, in order to have a uniform luminous flux, it is necessary to install several devices.

By a similar principle, the power level of the installed light bulbs is selected. All manufactured ceiling luminaires are built-in and open... Built-in models are best used on suspended ceilings. However, experts recommend using floodlights with an adjustable angle of rotation in the lighting of rooms with high humidity.

Decorative lighting of the floor in the bathroom

In-floor lighting is popular not only in living spaces, but also in the bathroom, which makes it easy to zone a room and bring originality to the atmosphere. Floor lighting can be represented by:

  • spotlights including halogen bulbs;
  • LED diffused systems;
  • searchlight-type light sources.

Such a stylish option in the bathroom serves as both additional and decorative lighting at the same time. Very important in a room with high humidity, use not only beautiful and durable, but also sealed lamps, the power of which does not exceed 5.0 W, and original colored bulbs can be used to create an unusual light effect.

Floor lighting is popular not only in living spaces, but also in the bathroom

Bathroom mirror lighting options

The surface near the mirror installed in the bathroom must be distinguished as an individual functional area. In rooms with a niche, podium or other design elements, there may be several functional areas. Professional designers are advised to use a symmetrical arrangement of lamps on both sides of the mirror, which will provide sufficient and high-quality lighting, but at the same time will not blind the eyes. Same, very important, so that light from light sources does not reflect on the mirror surface.

Shower cabin lighting

When operating a shower cabin with closed doors, such a plumbing fixture is mandatory it is necessary to ensure the availability of light, which can be:

  • built-in lamps;
  • colored LED backlight.

Built-in lights can be positioned on the ceiling of the shower stall or on its side panels. Any lighting devices used must be covered with transparent covers, and also be characterized by a high degree of protection. Also, in modern shower boxes, various versions of the original LED lights can be installed around the perimeter of the cabin or in the shower head. Despite the fact that the purpose of the second option is, as a rule, purely decorative, it is very important to especially carefully check its serviceability and operational safety.

Organization of lighting in a bathroom with a stretch ceiling

It is not too difficult to properly organize the lighting in rooms equipped with stretch ceilings. In this case, it is advisable to give preference not to classical, but to modern light sources.

The choice of lamps and lamps for the bathroom

If a stretch ceiling is chosen during the arrangement, then in the process of planning the lighting solution, it is imperative to take into account the type of surface of the walls and ceiling, which can be matte or glossy. The second option stands out strongly against the general background and contributes to the creation of volumetric reflection. Such surfaces look very stylish and also contribute to the visual increase of a small space.

Matte surfaces are able to dampen glare and are absolutely distortion-free... With a competent approach to the installation of a stretch ceiling, there is a great opportunity to create in the bathroom not only an exclusive, but also a very stylish, modern design. One of the most interesting solutions in the presence of a matte ceiling and walls is the illumination with special ceiling spots. If you correctly connect such light sources, then you can make the whole space very bright and beautiful.

Spot lighting of the ceiling

If there is a stretch ceiling, then the ideal backlighting option would be to use a standard LED strip. The color scheme of such backlighting can be completely different. As a rule, the lighting strip is mounted directly under stretch ceilings and performs the function of decorative lighting, therefore, it is advisable to use powerful lighting devices located in the corner zone as the main ceiling lighting.

Original bathroom lighting ideas

As a rule, the concept of high-quality room lighting is based on the use of a classic ceiling chandelier, as well as installation of halogen light sources in the floor, around the bathtub, as well as around the entire perimeter of the shower stall:

  • installation of halogen lamps inside the cabinets;
  • creating a false window with decorative lighting;
  • installation in the floor of sealed and durable lamps with a power not exceeding 5.0W;
  • highlighting plumbing fixtures by means of directed light beams.

Some manufacturers are currently offering modern bath models with an independent lighting system. The disadvantages of such products include the high cost, therefore, with a limited budget, it is advisable to use original lighting ideas.

The concept of high-quality room lighting is based on the use of a classic ceiling chandelier, as well as the installation of halogen light sources in the floor, around the bath, as well as around the perimeter of the shower

The choice of lamps for a small bathroom

Ideal in small rooms is three-level lighting, represented by:

  • lighting fixtures located in the upper part of the room. In small rooms, it is enough to install a central ceiling lamp;
  • as a working lighting, a pair of lighting devices is installed near the mirror, located in parallel in the upper part;
  • an advantageous solution is the installation of wall lamps on flexible arms, which allows you to adjust the direction of the luminous flux.

Wall lighting at the bottom of the wall plays a decorative rather than functional role, but is quite suitable for small spaces.

Lighting devices are installed near the mirror as a working light.

Toilet lighting options

In the toilet room, it is allowed to install modern suspended ceilings made of plasterboard plates, followed by uniform embedding of traditional spotlights along the entire perimeter. When operating such a lighting system, it is possible to obtain soft and diffuse light, which does not irritate the eyes at all.

With the right organization, light sources in the washroom not only fulfill their basic functions, but are also an original design element that helps to hide all the imperfections in the room.

It is not recommended to use one or a pair of traditional lighting fixtures that are capable of fulfilling their main functional purpose, but cannot be considered as a decorative element. Usually, the choice of lighting in the toilet directly depends on the size of the room... Lighting devices must necessarily fully comply with all safety requirements and be comfortable in daily use. All lamps installed in bathrooms must be classified as waterproof, and the switches must be removed outside the room.

In rooms characterized by high humidity, only lighting and electrical products with a degree of protection at the level of IP-44 or more are used.

How to make bathroom lighting with your own hands

Carry out work on the arrangement of the lighting system in the bathroom it is quite possible on your own, given the specifics of using lighting devices:

  • creation of an electrical lighting scheme, with a mark on the number and location of all lighting fixtures and switches;
  • with proper arrangement, the junction box, as a rule, is taken out of the bathroom;
  • installation of point light sources and traditional sconces takes little time, and the devices themselves are not able to take up a large amount of free space;
  • to decorate a hidden ceiling light, it is best to use a modern LED strip;
  • luminaires should be waterproof and located, if possible, at a sufficient distance from water;
  • it is advisable to give preference to modern low-voltage lighting devices operating from 12V;
  • Lamps with a directional and adjustable luminous flux will be a very successful alternative to traditional light sources.

Important to remember, that in rooms characterized by high humidity indicators, only lighting and electrical products with a degree of protection at the level of IP-44 or more are used, and the cable is laid in a hidden way, with mandatory protection of the wiring with a corrugated pipe.

Attention, only TODAY!

Lighting plays an important role in creating an attractive modern bathroom interior. Good light in an enclosed space creates a comfortable environment. A variety of lamps in the bathroom and toilet is necessary for proper lighting of work surfaces and space zoning. In addition, we must not forget about safety, since high humidity and frequent temperature changes impose special requirements on lighting in the bathroom and toilet. Let's take a closer look at these issues, and learn how to install lamps in the bathroom on our own according to the European standard and our own needs.

Bathroom lighting can be divided into three types: overhead lighting, decorative lighting and spot lighting.

All lamps are not often used separately, as a rule, they are combined. Together, they provide the most successful light, making the room comfortable and functional. Each of the types of lighting is divided into subspecies: chandeliers, lighting around the perimeter, built into the ceiling, lamps.

Design matching the light and style of the bathroom

Do not forget about the design matching of the fixtures and the style of your bathroom. The choice of a luminaire should also be based on the stylistic solution of the room. For example, austere metal fixtures will look silly in a Japanese-style bathroom, where the emphasis is on soothing warm tones. And lighting fixtures with clear lines in the form of geometric shapes will harmoniously fit into the bathroom with an ultra-modern design. This is where the material can be metal, plastic or chrome.

The ratio of the size of the lamp and the area of the bathroom

The size of the lighting device also determines the area of the room. The hanging model is not installed on a low ceiling; in this case, choose a ball-shaped lamp or a plafond - a plate. Do not choose models with a plastic or colored glass case, they distort the light, and therefore a closed-type shade made of transparent or matte white material will be the best solution.

Illumination level: calculation by bathroom area

When installing the light in the bathroom or toilet, adhere to the lighting standards, they will save your eyes. For a bathroom in accordance with the European standard, the illumination rate is 200 lux: if one lux is equal to one lumen (direct luminous flux per 1 sq. M of area), then for a bathroom with an area of 5 sq. m you need 1000lm (lumens). Now let's convert these numbers to watts. The light flow in the bathroom will always be direct and the ratio 200lx = 200lm / m2 is ideal. Let's consider several types of lighting fixtures, for example, a 75W incandescent lamp creates a luminous flux of 935lm, this is enough for a room of 5m2 according to ISO 8995. Here are some more examples:

  • halogen incandescent lamp 230V 42W -900 lumens;
  • induction lamp 40W - 2800 lumens;
  • LED lamp 230V 10W - 860 lumens;
  • LED from 40 to 80W - 6000 lumens;
  • sunlight - 3.63 × 10 28 lumens.

If light colors prevail in the bathroom decoration, choose the minimum indicators, the maximum - with a dark finish.

Now you just select the lamps you need and in the amount you need to properly illuminate your room. .

Bathroom lighting safety

GOST prescribes to divide the bathroom into special security zones. At the same time, each of them has its own requirements for laying wiring and arranging lighting.

Scheme for the requirements for luminaires, depending on the distance from water sources.

Zone 0 - type of protection IPx6 - these are the areas located in the bath and under the shower. It is allowed to use electrical appliances with a power not exceeding 12 volts here. Zone 1 is a type of protection IPx4 - it starts from the top edge of the shower stall or bathtub and extends to the ceiling. Here you can install more complex devices, for example, water heaters. But provided that they have good waterproofing. Zone 2 - type of protection IPx4 - this zone is located within a radius of half a meter from the first. Less protected devices and lamps are installed here. Zone 3 - type of protection IPx0 - here you can install conventional sockets and luminaires without special protection. It is located at a distance of at least 2 m from the bath or shower.

Install a hygrostat that will start the fan in time and dry the room in order to prevent an accident.

Rules for the operation of electricity in the bathroom

Remember that electrical boxes, taps and distributors must not be installed in all areas. When installing the wiring, use an RCD. Then, if moisture gets inside the devices or on the wiring, a short circuit will not occur. All electrical appliances installed in the bathroom must be equipped with an anti-drip coating designed to protect against leaks. The use of tees and extension cords in the bathroom is prohibited and this must be taken into account when placing lamps in it - the appliance must be connected directly to the outlet, and it must be waterproof.

Bathroom socket with safety shutter

It is impossible to install the sconce above the bathroom - the lamp may burst due to contact with the water of the heated plafond.

There is a way out, and it depends on the size of the room. If the ceilings in your bathroom are high, then install spotlights at a great distance from the water. This is the case when products with a low degree of protection can be used. In the event of a short circuit, the transformer will turn off, block the flow of current into the problematic section of the wiring and prevent ignition.

Installation of electrical wiring in the bathroom: basic principles

So, the lighting fixtures are selected according to the level of illumination and safety. It remains to mount them. Let's say you don't just decide to buy a couple of new lamps for your bathroom, but want to completely change the entire lighting scheme, or, more simply, make a major overhaul in the bathroom. Here are some simple tips to help you do it yourself safely and efficiently. Perhaps the advice will be useful to those who want to track the work of electricians for reliability.

Rules for laying electrical wiring in the bathroom

Types of cable for the bathroom

Before proceeding with the replacement of electrical wiring, it is necessary to disconnect the existing cables from the current in the junction box. It is necessary to make sure that all electrical devices are de-energized using the indicator. It is necessary to perform the slitting of the ceiling and walls to the required points where it is planned to install one or another electrical device for the installation of a new power line. You can lay the cable using corrugations, and so that the wire does not fall out, it is fixed with plaster. Special clamps are also suitable for the basis of the fasteners, which are pre-mounted in the grooves, and then a corrugation with a cable is inserted into them. After completing this stage, the wires in the junction box are connected.

It is better to place the junction box in a room adjacent to the bathroom to avoid moisture getting inside. If all the work is done correctly and there are no closures, the strobe is closed.

Cable installation in grooves

The wires are brought out to the appliance in the place where it will be located, and an end about 25-30 cm long is left. We do the same with the lamps that will be on the floor.

If several lamps will be turned on by one switch, connect them in series, instead of pulling a separate wire from each of them.

For convenience, you can write and hang the name of the cable on the phase wires of the lamps so that you do not get confused later. Then all electrical appliances are attached. We examined the features of installing the main type of wiring - hidden. But if you decide to lay the cable in an open way, protect it with a corrugation.

Installing lamps in the bath: video installation guide and photo ideas

We begin to fix the lamps in the bathroom from the ceiling. The first option is shades or plates. On a concrete ceiling, this device is strengthened with hardware, which usually come with a lighting fixture. If the ceiling is wooden, then everything is easier - we fix it with screws or self-tapping screws. The sequence of work is as follows:

  1. turn off the power supply
  2. we clean the ends of the wires and connect them to the terminals of the plafond - when twisting, the wires are clamped.
  3. after we fix the base of the plafond and screw in the lamp
  4. we check the connection and install the decorative cap of the plafond.

This type of bath and toilet lighting is very popular, versatile and safe.

LEDs in the bathroom: installation of LED strip, photo ideas

LED ceiling lights for bathroom and toilet are the most economical. They almost do not heat up, but due to their positive qualities, they have a rather high cost. However, they are in demand because their efficiency justifies the cost. Stores offer a truly huge selection of ceiling LEDs.

Halogen lamps

This type of lamp has undeniable advantages: they are not afraid of moisture, are very compact with an effective glow and consume little electricity. However, using them is not always easy. Often there are products that operate exclusively at 12 volts. Therefore, installing them in the bathroom will require the installation of a special transformer. Above, we have already given an example of the use of this device. But this is an expensive pleasure. We do not recommend saving money, since cheap transformers are very noisy and quickly fail.

Bathroom light zoning

Of course, the ideal option is a spacious bathroom with a large window to the street. Such a bathroom will give its owners the least worries in the choice of lighting. Artificial light in such a room is also necessary, but it is designed only for the dark. Basically, you can limit yourself to ceiling lamps and lighting of work areas.

Bathroom with natural light from the window and illuminated work areas

Bathrooms with a window are not common, unfortunately, in standard houses we have to be content with very cramped spaces. They require high quality and bright lighting. But no matter what bathroom you get, it needs lighting products of various brightness and design.

In the bathroom, we put ourselves in order after sleep, preparing to face the new day fully armed: we perform a variety of cosmetic procedures and evaluate our appearance. All these actions cannot be performed blindly or in the twilight. This means that lighting in the bathroom is designed to perform, first of all, a practical function.

But its aesthetic component cannot be disregarded. The emotional coloring of our whole day can depend on how we see our reflection in the mirror. Thinking over how to arrange the lamps in the bathroom, we sometimes solve problems more important than just the organization of artificial lighting.

The overall impression of your bathroom largely depends on the location of the light sources. Therefore, the lighting scheme for this room should become one of the constituent parts of the overall design of the project, even if we are talking about a tiny bathroom space in an ordinary Khrushchev.

What can we say about modern new buildings, the rooms in which are spacious and differ in the original layout. There is a place for the imagination to roam. Moreover, new design solutions, technologies and modern lighting devices provide such an opportunity.

When the bathroom is spacious and its ceilings are high, the designer's imagination has no boundaries and can work miracles.

The layout of the fixtures in the bathroom depends on many factors, including the following:

  • the size of the room;
  • location levels;
  • breakdown into functional areas;
  • the style of the interior and the color scheme of the room;
  • selection of lighting fixtures.

All these factors can both contribute to the flight of design imagination, and return us to the realities of life. A professional designer involved in such work will certainly ask the owner of the room if he has a desire to visually adjust the bathroom space using the play of light.

After all, skillfully directed beams are able to "raise" the ceiling or jacuzzi, "lengthen" or "push" the walls.

Using lighting and some other design tricks and tricks, you can turn a small bathroom into a magnificent underwater kingdom.

Regardless of the scale of future changes, the highlights of the planned placement of lighting fixtures must be incorporated into the layout. Although it is possible that in the course of further work, adjustments may be made to it.

Three levels of luminaire placement

When making plans for any other room, we take into account not only artificial, but also natural daylight. But windows in the bathroom, as a rule, are not provided, so you have to rely exclusively on artificially created light. He should provide us with a full-fledged luminous flux that can satisfy all needs.

It is not necessary to use all three levels of bathroom lighting, but once you start this amazing play of light and shadow, it is so difficult to curb your own imagination.

Artificial lighting in the bathroom can be presented in three levels:

  • upper - ceiling;
  • medium - working;
  • bottom - floor.

A successful combination of these levels can create a truly magical decorative effect. But do not forget about the practical side of the issue - the room should be light and comfortable.

Mandatory top level

The upper level is located at a distance of 180 cm from the floor level and above. Ceiling lighting should be present in any bathroom. No matter how extravagant the embodied design solutions are, no one is in a hurry to abandon ceiling lamps.

Moreover, design ideas are becoming more sophisticated. In accordance with the chosen interior style, you can, for example, arrange the popular "starry sky" on the ceiling or hang a single, but luxurious, flowing crystal chandelier.

Who would have thought that this variegated crystal chandelier would fit so flawlessly into the interior of a very bright Provence-style bathroom?

Of course, the only lamp under a matte shade, which was installed either in the middle of the ceiling or above the doorway, has long lost its relevance. Although this option is still used in small rooms. But more and more modern lighting devices are used and in much larger quantities.

It has become popular to install spotlights in the bathroom. They attract attention with their reliability, variety of appearance, decorativeness, economy and ease of use. The scheme of their location should be considered in advance. You can concentrate them in the center of the room or spread them over the areas of the bath, washbasin, and so on. There should be no shaded areas in the room. This is especially true for niches, columns and so on.

This gorgeous bathroom looks snowy thanks in large part to the successful ceiling lighting, which combines the light of delicate lamps and a luxurious chandelier located in the center.

It is to solve the problem of uniform distribution of light that a large number of its sources are used. The more they are installed in the room, the less the power of each of them can be, the more modest their sizes can be. Multi-position lighting fixtures are most often equipped with halogen lamps.

Halogen luminaires are available as open and recessed. If a suspended ceiling is to be installed in the bathroom, then such built-in structures can be built into it. In this case, it does not matter what kind of material the ceiling itself will be built from. Halogen lamps emit a beam of light from above, which is directed vertically downward, so it is more rational to use spotlights, the angle of rotation of which is adjustable.

An interesting solution to the problems of the upper level for rooms with high ceilings is the simultaneous use of direct and reflected light fluxes. At some distance from the surface of the main ceiling, an aluminum suspension can be installed. A number of point devices are fixed on its lower surface. They will organize a direct stream of light.

On the upper surface of the same structure, a number of sources with a wide scattering angle are placed. Lighting with such a scheme will not only be sufficient, but also original.

Not only the combination of direct and reflected light flux looks spectacular in any bathroom, but also the distribution of light sources at different levels

If the ceiling is low and the style of the room allows, the lighting system will help to simulate a modern structure, which is based on conductive systems - strings and busbars. These peculiar light beads are attached to the ceiling or to the upper level of the walls. With their help, you can create very unusual futuristic combinations.

Secrets of placing light at the middle level

A spacious bathroom can be easily divided into zones, providing each of them with local light sources that will help to realize the functionality of each allocated area.

Mirror and washbasin

When it comes to the work area, first of all, it means proper lighting of the mirror and washbasin. For this purpose, you need to choose a source of bright, but diffused light, so that there is no unnecessary strain on the eyes. Lighting a mirror for different purposes should be done in different ways.

  • For shaving. The lamp should be positioned above the mirror.
  • For applying makeup. Lighting should come from both sides at the same time.

Solving these two tasks simultaneously, we organize mirror illumination from at least three sides. On the sides of the mirror, identical sconces, fixed symmetrically, look best. This arrangement is not only beautiful but also functional. In this case, the light is distributed evenly, without unnecessary shadows.

Mirror illumination should be done especially carefully, because your mood for the whole day will depend on how you see yourself in the morning.

You can buy a mirror equipped with hidden or outdoor lighting. A similar idea, embodied with LED strips, can be used to decorate the edge of a bathtub, furniture or decorative niches. An excellent light source can be sconces mounted on flexible brackets that can be bent in any way to achieve the best result.

The diffused light effect is achieved by using white plastic or frosted glass lampshades. Give preference to white, since your own reflection in the mirror in this case will be as realistic and optimal as possible for applying cosmetics.

It is not necessary to place sconces on the sides of the mirror. The washbasin area can also be illuminated by means of shades fixed to the ceiling

To emphasize the qualities of a wide mirror, you can use a whole series of sources, placing them along its upper edge. If the mirror has average parameters, you can illuminate it around the perimeter. In this case, it is not necessary to mount the lamps on the wall. Some of them are glued directly to the mirror surface.

Bath and Jacuzzi

Many models of shower stalls are initially equipped with autonomous lighting. If this option is not provided, you should definitely take care of its implementation during the period of the repair. Why not provide local lights and a bathtub? A number of manufacturers offer us models with autonomous backlighting, but this pleasure is too expensive.

Of course, this kind of original bath lighting is not the only one in this room. Most likely, it is used when meditation accompanies ablution.

You can come up with other interesting solutions. For example, organize a separate group of spotlights above the bathroom, a beautiful sconce or a tall floor lamp with a stained glass shade. It is not necessary to observe the sterile whiteness of the light here. You can use multi-colored light bulbs or a rainbow lampshade.

Lighting of furniture items

It's amazing how much space is taken up by household chemicals that we are used to storing in this room with a modest size. Most of the cosmetics are also located here. For all this, as well as for towels, washcloths and all kinds of hygiene items, shelves and cabinets are required.

It is not necessary to illuminate furniture, but sometimes the smallest lamp makes life so easy! After all, there is light even in the refrigerator, why not equip cabinets and shelves in the bathroom with it? All the items we need will be found in a shorter period of time.

Of course, it is impossible to embody all ideas in a room of a modest size, and there is no need for this. In addition, do not forget that the light sources must correspond to the style in which the entire interior of the room is made.

Light on the lower level

As a rule, the lower level of lighting is used exclusively for creating decorative effects. However, this backlight can also be used as an emergency one.

Organize it either in the floor covering itself or at a height of no more than a decimeter from the floor surface. For these purposes, the same low-power sealed lamps are used. With the help of similar devices, they designate garden paths in summer cottages. Such lamps, the diameter of which does not exceed 5 cm, are mounted directly into the floor covering. The power of the lamps used in this case is approximately 5 watts.

Effective bottom lighting in the bathroom creates a futuristic interior that will impress all family members

An LED strip that is not afraid of moisture is also well suited. Attached to the lower perimeter of the tub, it creates the floating effect of this massive plumbing fixture.

Individuality and romance

One of the signs of our time is the massive rejection of everything impersonal and standard. Each owner wants his apartment or house to acquire individual features. That is why beautiful handmade compositions, which are unconventional sources of light, are especially popular.

If in a spacious bathroom there is a niche that does not carry a special functional load, it can be decorated with a composition that emits light.

Candles create an unforgettable atmosphere of romance and happiness, which we sometimes miss. Do not stop fully resting and recharging with the energy of joy

It is impossible not to mention those light sources that fill our home with romance. They themselves are its generally recognized embodiment. Of course, we're talking about candles. This wonderful invention of mankind today takes on unusual forms and incredibly captivating aromas.

When we light candles, we plunge into an atmosphere of peace and sensuality, forgetting about everything that worried and annoyed us throughout the day. It is necessary to give yourself the opportunity to fully relax and recover.

Remember safety

When planning how to place lamps in our bathroom, we should not lose sight of the state standard regulating the electrical safety requirements for this room with a high level of humidity. According to the standard, the room is divided into zones as shown in the picture.

Compliance with the rules for placing electrical appliances in the bathroom, established by the domestic GOST and international regulations, ensures our safety

If you select and install electrical equipment in accordance with the requirements of GOST, then:

  • Only low-voltage devices with voltages up to 12V can be fixed in zone 0.
  • Only water heaters are placed within zone 1.
  • In zone 2, it is permissible to install not only water heaters, but also luminaires with second class protection against electric shock with reinforced or double insulation without grounding.
  • In zone 3, plug sockets are installed, which are connected to the network using residual current devices or by means of isolation transformers.

The degree of protection of electrical appliances from water is regulated by the standards of the IP (Ingress Protection) system. If you are guided by them, then the following devices should be located in the zones:

  • Zone 0 - class IPx7, impervious to moisture even when immersed in water;
  • Zone 1 - class IPx5, protected from the effects of water jets, regardless of their direction;
  • Zone 2 - class IPx4, do not react to splashes on the surface;
  • Zone 3 - class IPx1 protected against vertically falling drops.

The combination of beauty and safety will make the bathroom in your home a place where you can truly relax, take a break from the hustle and bustle of the past day and adequately prepare for the day ahead.

What toilet light should be like in the 21st century

Previously, it was believed that the light in the toilet was enough to be realized with one small light bulb, turned on from the outside by pressing the corresponding switch. But it's already 2016 and I personally decided to keep up with the times, using modern technological advances. I will tell you what came out of this later.

Selection and installation of a light source

A wall lamp, sadly sticking out from the ceiling, consisting of one incandescent light bulb, has visited, probably, every toilet of multi-storey buildings, and in some it has remained to this day. At least, this was the case for me before I took up the reforms.

This option was considered optimal for a bathroom, which is absolutely not true, which I will now prove to you:

Debunking myths

  1. The first myth - saving... The fact is that visits to the toilet are not very frequent and short-term anyway, so it practically does not affect your family's budget in any way;

  1. Myth two - no need for brighter light... Like: "what is there to consider such a thing?" But actually, being in a cramped space, shrouded in twilight, has a very negative effect on the mental state of a person, up to the danger of claustrophobia.

And if an adult is quite able to endure such conditions, albeit without much comfort, then if there are children in the apartment, it is better not to risk their health and state of mind.

Benefits of LED Downlights

So what, looking back at the above, should be the lamp in the toilet? I will not torment for a long time, I gave my preference to LED point models for the following reasons:

  1. Energy saving... Even realizing that the light in the bathroom is rarely turned on, you still want to make it more economical, such is human nature, and the lighting devices in question quite successfully cope with this task;
  2. Sufficiently bright but not cutting light emitted... As a result, four lamps installed in the corners immersed my toilet in a soft and all-encompassing glow, excluding any depressive moods;

  1. Simple flush-mounted installation, easy to do with your own hands. Fortunately, a little earlier I sewed up the ceiling with plastic panels, so all that remains to be done, in fact, is to cut out the seats for the instrument sockets in them and extend the wiring to them from the location of the old light bulb. I will describe this process in more detail below;
  2. High level of protection against high humidity levels... Of course, the toilet is not as damp as the bathroom, but extra precaution will not hurt, but the owners of shared bathrooms need to be as careful as possible in this matter.

Current offers

Before you install the LED light, you need to buy it. I will give the characteristics of some models, along with their cost, so that you can navigate for yourself:

  • Model "011278 Piano ip mini":

  • Model "A601 W Ambrella":

  • Model "006410 MEDUSA CR":

As you can see, the price fluctuates for the most part depending on the shape of the fixture. But here it is desirable to do it all the same focus primarily on the moisture resistance of the device rather than its originality.

Installation of a spotlight

Above, I have already noted the ease of installation of point lighting devices, now I will describe in more detail how I did it:

  1. By inserting a crown of a suitable diameter into a cordless screwdriver, I drilled a hole in the plastic ceiling at a predetermined place;

  1. Through the hole we made got the right wire having previously de-energized the electrical network;

If you can't reach the cable with your hand, then use a piece of wire bent into a hook for this purpose. Such a device will easily fit into a standard cut-in hole.

  1. Further made the connection of wires to the lighting fixture itself;

  1. Then passed the lamp into the prepared seat and fixed it with special springs;

  1. The final action put on decorative protection;
  2. Turned on the power to check the operability of the lighting device, then turned it off again and moved on to the next point.

If your bathroom is spacious enough to hold a mirror in it, then installing LEDs in its frame will be a very interesting option. This move looks just amazing, but in my apartment the toilet is of standard small size, so I could not implement it.

Automation of turning on the light

So, in the end, after all that has been described, I got a modern, economical, abundant, but at the same time not cutting the eyes, lighting. If your layout of an apartment or private house also includes a small toilet, then I think that four point light sources will be enough for you, although their number can be increased or decreased depending on the situation.

But this is far from all that a bathroom should have today. Automatic backlighting is what I decided to implement in the next step. What for? Now I will explain everything:

Benefits of automatic lighting

  • Noticeable energy savings... Yes, yes, yes, at the very beginning I wrote that the stay in the toilet was not so long that the light bulb had time to “wind up” a lot, but this is only if you turned on the light, entered, coped with all the matters, went out and turned off his.
    And if, suddenly, they forgot to turn it off, which is especially often the case with children who are always in a hurry somewhere? Then the lighting fixture can burn unnecessarily for a very long time, "burning" your money. Automation completely eliminates this problem.;
  • Ease of use... You do not need to press anything, you do not need to reach anywhere, you just need to enter. Not only is it just convenient, especially, again, for the smallest family members, it also excludes the possibility of accidentally turning off the light outside, for sure many have had such an unpleasant occasion more than once at the most unfortunate moment.

Sensor selection

Automatic switching on of the light in the toilet can be carried out by connecting one of three types of sensors:

  1. Sound... It is activated with the help of sound, which, as a rule, is set in the range of 40-50 dB, which corresponds to a clap of hands. It has two regulators on the body, one of which is responsible for the level of the noise that closes the contacts, and the second for the duration of the period when the device is turned on.
    It is sold in a wide variety of variations, making it easy for you to choose the model that best suits your toilet. Their price starts approximately from 350 rubles.

Plus: the ability to set to turn off, that is, a second pop will bring darkness. Sensors operating on other principles must withstand the set cycle of the circuit closure.

Negative: short range, requiring close proximity to the device. And if you apply a supersensitive model, then fake inclusions from extraneous noise will become more frequent;

  1. Ultrasonic... It has a very small size, which makes it easy to disguise, and a high response speed. The principle of operation consists in the propagation of ultrasonic waves with a length of 20-60 kHz by the apparatus, the intersection of which due to the Doppler effect causes the circuit to close. The cost of such a device also starts at about 350 rubles.

  1. Infrared... The presence sensor has a lens system that focuses infrared radiation, directing it to a special high-sensitivity sensor. When the radiation strength reaches a certain intensity, as is the case due to the appearance of a person in the controlled area, a circuit closure is triggered, which lasts for a while. The cost of such devices is already somewhat higher, since it starts from 600 rubles.

The disadvantage is the frequent false alarms that can occur due to various temperature fluctuations, which are formed, for example, as a result of turning on hot water or the operation of an air conditioner.

I chose a motion sensor for my toilet, working by the propagation of ultrasonic waves. By the way, you can even immediately buy an LED lamp with such a built-in system, although it will cost significantly more. So, for example, the model "IEK 3237D", shown below, will cost you around 1,700 rubles:

The connection process after I practiced with the lighting devices themselves was not difficult. For you, I have also provided auxiliary schemes above. In a nutshell, it's simple you need to include the purchased device in the circuit between the power source and the lamps.

By the way, you can even make the music play in the toilet when the lights are turned on, but this is absolutely not for everybody, since many people prefer to "reflect" in silence.

Conclusion

You can improve the lighting system of the toilet in two stages. At the first, the old light source should be replaced with fixtures that better meet the needs of today's consumer, for which I have chosen spot LED models. On the second, to automate their work by connecting a special sensor, an ultrasonic device perfectly coped with this task. As a result, the whole family is happy with a bright and "smart" bathroom.

It is no secret that correctly selected light sources provide not only comfort, but also safety while taking hygienic and relaxing procedures. Today we will talk about lighting in the toilet, as it plays an important role in creating a comfortable and stylish interior for your home. With the help of lamps, you can emphasize the design details of the bathroom design or divert attention from pipelines and vents.

Types of lighting in the toilet

What kind of lighting is best for the toilet is determined based on the design of the bathroom, its area, the color scheme of the interior and a number of other conditions. Before making a choice, it is advisable to familiarize yourself with the types of lighting and light sources.

Lighting for bathrooms is divided into three types:

  1. General - Provides the main light level of illumination.
  2. Decorative - used to highlight the interior items of bathrooms.
  3. Spot - Highlights various areas of the room.

Usually lighting in the toilet and also in the bathroom consists of a combination of these three types. By the type of lamps, they are distinguished:

  • Halogen. Sources of this type for 12 V can be used in the wettest areas of bathrooms. They are characterized by low power consumption with sufficient luminous flux.
  • LED. Lamps in luminaires of this type do not heat up and consume little electricity. LED lighting in the toilet is often used for decorative and spot lighting. An important advantage of such light sources is the ability to change the color of the lighting.
  • Incandescent lamps. Classic lamps. Their main advantage is cheapness. Such lighting products are more widespread than any others.
  • Luminescent. Their main advantage is low power consumption. These lighting products are cheaper than diode light sources.

According to the method of installation, pendant, surface-mounted and recessed luminaires are distinguished.

Also distinguish floor, ceiling and wall light sources.

The choice is made based on several conditions.

  • Light sources for the bathroom and toilet must match the design solution of the bathroom interior. For example, chrome-plated or nickel-plated lamps with clear lines and shapes are suitable for a high-tech bathroom.
  • Before choosing lighting, you need to calculate its level. According to current regulations, its level should be approximately 200 lux or lumens. The power of each type of lamp is converted into lumens according to special tables. The luminous flux of incandescent lamps is approximately 20-30 W per m2, fluorescent lamps provide 4-6 W per m2, halogen light sources - 10-20 W per m2.
  • When calculating lighting in the toilet and bathroom, it is recommended to use standard methods that are in the public domain.
  • Each lighting device is marked according to the degree of protection against ingress of moisture and foreign objects, which is designated as IP, followed by a combination of 2 or 3 digits.
  • Light sources of protection class IP 21–41 are recommended for toilets.

How to choose and do it right - a useful master class.

Lighting in a small toilet

Competently organized lighting of a small toilet will visually increase the area of the bathroom. In rooms of a small area, it is advisable to make ceiling lighting. The light from above does not visually conceal the already small space of the toilet room.

The type of luminaires is chosen based on the height of the ceilings, the general style, and the material of the ceilings.

So, for example, recessed point halogen or LED light sources are well suited for plasterboard ceilings.

Flat single luminaires with matching shades are suitable for rooms with low ceilings.

For toilets with high ceilings, it is better to choose a pendant-type light source.

Variants of a successful solution for lighting small toilets are shown in the photo.

According to the current classification, country toilets belong to rooms with high humidity. Therefore, the following rules must be observed.

  • When organizing lighting in the toilet in the country, you need to choose lamps of protection class IP 55 to IP 66.
  • Wiring should be carried out in pipes that provide additional protection against damage.
  • The switch must also be waterproof.
  • Sometimes the best solution to the question of how to make lighting in a country toilet is to use stand-alone battery-powered lamps.

If, nevertheless, you decide to make lighting for the toilet in the country from electricity, then first you need to carry it out. This can be done in two ways: by air and underground. It is easier to conduct a current-carrying line through the air. If there are no limiting conditions, this method is recommended for lighting a country toilet.

To install the wiring you will need:

  • Set of screwdrivers.
  • Rotary hammer with various attachments.
  • Assembly knife for stripping insulation.
  • Insulating tape.
  • Pliers.
  • Round nose pliers.
  • Side cutter.
  • A hammer.
  • Crimping pliers.
  • Multimeter.
  • 3-core wire of the VVG brand with a cross section of at least 1.5 mm.
  • Junction box and switch.
  • Insulated metal cable with hooks for attaching the cable line.
  • Corrugation to protect the wiring from moisture.
  • Porcelain insulator.

Installation steps

So, step-by-step instructions on how to bring the light to the toilet in the country.

1. We close the fixing structures into the walls and fix the cable on them.

2. We pass the wire into the corrugation.

3. Turn off the voltage at the input board.

4. We drill inlet holes in the walls and lay pipes in them that will protect the cable.

5. Install a circuit breaker or RCD to which the wire will be connected.

6. We install junction boxes, switches and lamps, pull the wire, make all electrical connections.

7. Check the correctness of the connection using a multimeter.

8. Apply voltage.

According to the current electrical safety rules, the combined bathroom is divided into 4 zones, for each of which its own design of lamps is provided.

  • In the zero zone, it is possible to install light sources with a rated supply voltage of no more than 12 V of a moisture and dust protection class IP 68 or 68.
  • In the first zone, it is possible to mount light sources of performance from IP 55 to IP 66. In this sector, exposure to water splashes under low pressure is possible.
  • In the second zone, it is allowed to install lighting devices in an IP 34–54 enclosure.
  • Zone three. Two meters from a bathroom or shower, where direct exposure to moisture is excluded, light sources and wiring accessories IP 21–41 are recommended.

To install light sources for lighting in a toilet and bathroom with already made electrical wiring, the following tools are required:

  • Screwdriver with phase indicator.
  • Double-sided construction tape.
  • Insulating tape.
  • Nippers.
  • Knife with insulating material handles.

Stages of work on lighting a bathroom and toilet

1.First, we define the phase, neutral and ground wires. The phase and zero are determined using a phase indicator screwdriver.

2. Grounding conductor - using a multimeter. To do this, switch the resistance measuring device. One probe touches a heating radiator or a grounded body of any electrical appliance. The second is to check the wires one by one. When testing the ground wire, the multimeter will show zero resistance. It is advisable to mark all conductors so as not to be confused during installation.

3. Spotlights are installed as follows: first you need to strip the wires, connect them to the terminal block of the lighting fixture and install the lamp in a pre-prepared socket.

4. Hanging lamps are attached to special mounting feet, which are hung on a hook.

Luminaires with transformers and controllers in baths can only be installed in zone 3, according to.

5. LED light sources with controllers for bath and toilet lighting are usually supplied unassembled. The assembly begins with reading the instructions.

7. Secure the power supplies and the controller with construction double-sided tape.

8. Then the decor elements are installed.

The assembly of LED luminaires is carried out in the following sequence:

  1. Install lamps.
  2. Connect the power supplies to the corresponding channels of the controller.
  3. Connect lamps to power sources.
  4. Secure the control unit and power supplies.
  5. Connect the light source.

Bath and toilet are an area of increased risk of electric shock. It is better to do lighting in the toilet and bathroom on your own with the necessary experience. If it is absent, after studying the materials in this article, you will be able to use this knowledge to control the work of a specialist.
