INTERPRETATION OF THE MORNING PRAYERS

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

In the name of - name, honor, glory. Amen -true, true, true.

This prayer is called the initial prayer, because we say it before all prayers, at the beginning of prayers. In it, we ask God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, that is, the Most Holy Trinity, to invisibly bless us for the upcoming work in His name.

Translation: In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Publican's Prayer

(Gospel of Luke 18, 13)

God, have mercy on me a sinner. (Bow)

Translation: God, be merciful to me, a sinner.

This is the prayer of the publican (tax collector in ancient times), who repented of his sins and received forgiveness. Here is how it is described in the Gospel:

He also said to some who were sure of themselves that they were righteous, and humiliated others, the following parable: two people entered the temple to pray: one Pharisee, and the other publican. The Pharisee, standing up, prayed in himself like this: God! I thank You that I am not like other people, robbers, offenders, adulterers, or like this publican: I fast twice a week, I give a tenth of everything that I get. The publican, standing afar off, did not even dare to raise his eyes to heaven; but, striking his chest, he said: God! be merciful to me, a sinner!

I tell you that this one went to his house justified rather than that one: for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted (Luke 18:9-14).

Predestinatory prayer

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, prayers for the sake of Your Most Pure Mother and all the saints, have mercy on us. Amen.

Have mercy on us -be merciful to us, forgive us. Jesus - Savior. Christ -Anointed. He is so named because he fully possessed those gifts of the Holy Spirit, which in Old Testament kings, prophets, and high priests received through the anointing. For prayers -for the sake of prayers or by prayers.

Jesus Christ is the Son of God - the second Person of the Holy Trinity. As the Son of God, He is our true God, as are God the Father and God the Holy Spirit. His earthly name is Jesus, that is, the Savior, because He saved us from sins and eternal death. For this, He, being the Son of God, dwelt in the Immaculate Virgin Mary and, with the influx of the Holy Spirit, became incarnate and became human from Her, that is, He took on a human body and soul - was born from the Blessed Virgin Mary, became the same person as we are, but only he was sinless - he became the God-man. And instead of us suffering and tormented for sins, He, out of love for us, His children, suffered for us, died on the cross, and on the third day resurrected, conquering death and sin and giving us eternal life. Realizing our sinfulness and not relying on the power of our prayers, in this prayer we ask you to pray for us, sinners, before our Savior of all the saints and Mother of God who has a special grace to save us, by His intercession before His Son.

Translation: Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, through the prayers of Your Most Pure Mother and all the saints, have mercy on us.

Glory to Thee, our God, glory to Thee.

Glory -praise. In this prayer, we do not ask God for anything, but only praise Him. It can be said in short: Thank God. It is pronounced at the end of the case as a sign of our gratitude to God for His mercy to us.

Translation: Praise to You, our God, praise to You.

Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Heavenly King, Comforter, Soul of Truth, Who is everywhere and fills everything, Treasury of the good and Giver of life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save, O Blessed, our souls.

In this prayer we pray to the Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Holy Trinity. We call the Holy Spirit in it the King of Heaven, because He, as true God, equal to God the Father and God the Son, invisibly reigns over us, owns us and the whole world. We call him the Comforter, because He comforts us in our sorrows and misfortunes. We call Him the Spirit of truth (as the Savior Himself called Him), because He, like the Holy Spirit, teaches everyone only one truth, truth, only that which is useful for us and serves for our salvation. He is God, and He is everywhere and fills everything with Himself: Izhe is everywhere and fulfills everything. He, as the manager of the whole world, sees everything and, where necessary, gives. He is the treasure of the good, that is, the keeper of all good deeds, the source of all the good that one needs to have. We call the Holy Spirit - the Giver of life, because everything in the world lives and moves by the Holy Spirit, that is, everything receives life from Him, and especially people receive from Him spiritual, holy and eternal life beyond the grave, being cleansed through Him from their sins. We turn to Him with a request: “Come and dwell in us”, that is, constantly abide in us, as in your temple, cleanse us from all filth, that is, sin, make us saints, worthy of Your presence in us, and Save us, Good Source of the highest good, our souls from sins and those punishments that are for sins, and through this grant us the Kingdom of Heaven.

Word psalm means song. This psalm was compiled by the prophet David, when he repented of a great sin - he killed the pious Uriah the Hittite and took possession of his wife Bathsheba. This psalm is called penitential, because it expresses deep contrition for the sin committed and an earnest prayer for mercy, and perhaps surpasses all the others in the depth of repentance. Therefore, this psalm is often read in the church during worship. All of us, guilty of many sins, should say this psalm as often as possible, delving into every word.
Have mercy on me, O God, according to Thy great mercy, and according to the multitude of Thy mercies, cleanse my iniquity. Sin is great, so the prophet asks God for great mercy. Only God's inexpressible bounties can cleanse grave iniquity.
Wash me most of all from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. The Lord has already announced to David through the prophet Nathan that he takes away his sins for repentance (2 Kings 12:13) - but David prays that God will completely cleanse him of sinful impurities. So we too, receiving remission of our sins in the Sacrament of Repentance, must nevertheless incessantly cry out to the Lord so that he destroys the very root of sin in us.
For I know my iniquity, and my sin before me is taken out. Have mercy, Lord, cleanse me! Sin burdens me, I cannot forget it, I see it day and night in my conscience, which constantly disturbs my soul.
I have sinned against You alone, and done evil before You, as if You were justified in Your words, and conquered, when you judge Ty (in the Russian translation of the psalm: so that You are righteous in Your judgment and pure in Your court). Not human, but God's judgment presents himself as a prophet (David is a king, and he is not afraid of human judgment). Having hidden iniquity from people, you cannot hide it from the Supreme Judge, Who sees everything hidden; before God's truth, our deceit is convicted - our untruth and wrong, and all our justifications are powerless.
Behold, I was conceived in iniquity, and in sins give birth to me, my mother. All of us, the descendants of Adam, are conceived in sins, inheriting original sin. We plead with God for forgiveness by presenting to Him our natural tendency to sin.
Behold, thou hast loved the truth... (note the word thou art- it refers to the 2nd person: here, You loved the truth). You, Lord, are the Truth I am the way and the truth and the life- In. 14b) You love the truth and want us to abide in the truth. And I confess that You love the truth and hate falsehood, therefore I confess and confess before You that I have sinned.
The unknown and secret wisdom of Thy revealed to me- the unknown (hidden) and secret (that is, the hidden secret) of Your wisdom You showed me. (King David speaks of his prophetic gift, that God, by the Holy Spirit, revealed to him the ineffable mysteries of His Providence; but every Christian also receives the gifts of the Holy Spirit in the Sacraments of the Church and, through the teachings of the Church, touches the hidden mysteries of God's Providence, and each of us is told unknown and secret wisdom of God: we have been taught the true faith, we have been shown the path to the Kingdom of Heaven.) How did I respond to these grace-filled gifts? Sin!
Sprinkle me with hyssop, and I will be cleansed; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Here is the hope to completely get rid of sin and be filled with joy. The prophet likens to Hyssop the action of the Holy Spirit, which cleanses all defilement in us.
Give joy and gladness to my ears. Give me, to my ears, the grace-filled news of mercy, rejoice and rejoice me!
The bones of the humble will rejoice. The committed sin crushes not only the soul, but also the body: under the weight of sin, the bones become weak, humble; when the sin is forgiven and an unbearable burden is removed from the conscience, then the whole body is filled with joy (remember how sometimes we sigh with deep relief and straighten our shoulders).
Turn Your face away from my sins, and cleanse all my iniquities- cut them out of the book of my life.
Create a pure heart in me, O God, and renew a right spirit in my womb.. Restore the fallen soul to primordial beauty, destroying in me the impurity of the ancestral sin. Give me the grace of righteousness!
Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Sin tears away from God, from the Source of Life - and we pray that we do not find ourselves in pitch darkness, where the face of God is not visible.
Give me back the joy of Your salvation, and by the Sovereign Spirit confirm me. Reward, return to me the joy that I enjoyed when I was kept by You; give me the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
I will teach the wicked in Your way, and the wicked will turn to You. When You deliver me from sin and give me the Holy Spirit, I will be able to teach the transgressors again so that they walk in Your ways, says David, His chosen one, to the Lord. And for us, this vow contains the same thought as in the petition of the Lord's Prayer: yes shine your name in us, Lord; for if You cleanse our sins and by Your grace we begin to live according to Your will, then by our very life we will be able to preach Your truth and turn the hearts of people to You.
Deliver me from blood, O God, God of my salvation... Prophet David asks God to save him from the spilled blood of Uriah, in which he seems to be drowning (from the blood - a more accurate translation of the words of the psalm). The words God of my salvation are equivalent to words God my Savior- Appeal to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. With these words of the prophet, we cry out to the Savior to deliver us from the murderous effect of our sins.
My tongue shall rejoice in thy righteousness. Lord, open my mouth, and my mouth will proclaim your praise. My mouth is now closed with sin. Having received the remission of sins, I will not be silent, but I will testify of You, sing praises to You and glorify Your mercies.
As if you would have desired sacrifices, you would have given them: you do not favor burnt offerings. You, Lord, have abolished the sacrifices under the law, which cannot grant remission of sins: the external sacrifice, offered without the participation of the heart, does not matter.
Sacrifice to God the spirit is broken; a contrite and humble heart God will not despise. The sacrifice that You loved is repentance and contrition of the heart; You will not despise a contrite and humble heart, O God (Russian translation).
Please, O Lord, with Thy favor Zion, and let the walls of Jerusalem be built. King David prays not only for himself, but also for his city and people, and asks the Lord to raise up the walls of Jerusalem shaken by his sin. But Zion and Jerusalem Holy Scripture depict also the whole Church.
Then be pleased with the sacrifice of righteousness, an offering and a burnt offering; then they will offer calves on your altar. The psalm ends with the image of a sacrifice to God, offered in purity of heart and righteousness; having cleansed our souls with repentance, we will aspire to God with all our being and give ourselves entirely to Him, all our hearts, all our lives - this will be our "burnt offering".

The text of the prayer to the King of Heaven sings of one of the incarnations of our Lord. Unfortunately, it so happened that believers very rarely sing about the Holy Spirit, unlike all other Persons of the Holy Trinity. All this is because people's knowledge is based on the writings of the Gospel, which are highlighted in the Old Testament, where the expression of the Holy Spirit occurs three times. Twice in Isaiah and once in 50 Psalms.

Another characteristic difference between the Jewish faith and the Christian faith is the understanding and interpretation of the essence of the Holy Spirit. In the first, the Spirit is not a person, a property of God the Father, that is, the totality of his Breath and Force.

Prayer to the King of Heaven Comforter

In the Gospel, the King of Heaven is mentioned more often. Probably every Christian knows that the Spirit came to the Savior during the great Baptism. He also came to the apostles when they went to preach. That is why in the texts of prayers to the King of Heaven one has to listen not to the usual refrain “rejoice” or “rejoice”, but the word “come”, which calls the third person of the Holy Trinity.

Very often a Christian cannot imagine the image of God, which consists of three persons, but at the same time is Inseparable and Consubstantial. Nevertheless, the entire Orthodox Christian doctrine is built on this dogma.

For clarity, the clergy advise comparing the Holy Trinity with the image of an earthly woman, who can also reside in several persons at once:

Also, the Lord Himself combines three essences in Himself.

  • feast of the Holy Trinity - celebrated on the 50th day after the celebration of Easter;
  • Day of the Holy Spirit - Monday after the celebration of the Great Trinity.

The text of the prayer is as follows:

and cleanse us from all filthiness,

and save, O Blessed One, our souls.

May the Lord keep you!

The prayer “To the King of Heaven” is also the stichera of the service of Pentecost. We call on the Holy Spirit to come and dwell “in us”, and this can be understood in two ways: either we want each of us to become the abode of the Spirit, or we want the Holy Spirit to dwell among us, uniting us into the Body of Christ. But one does not exclude the other. Priest Theodore LUDOGOVSKY comments.

“Heavenly King, At the comforter, D of the truth, Who is everywhere and fulfills everything, With the treasure of the good and life, Giver, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save, Blessed, our souls” .

TRANSLATION by Hierom. Ambrose (Timrota):

“The King of Heaven, the Comforter, the Spirit of Truth, who dwells everywhere and fills everything, the Treasury of good things and Giver of life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save our souls, Good One. »

- The prayer "King of Heaven" is addressed to the Third Person of the Holy Trinity - the Holy Spirit, the Life-Giving Lord, who proceeds from the Father (see Creed). The origin and authorship of this prayer is unknown, but there is reason to believe that it originated towards the end of the first millennium of the Christian era.

"King of Heaven"- perhaps one of the most famous prayers, along with the "Our Father" (the Lord's Prayer) and the 90th psalm of King David. It is part of the so-called "usual beginning", that is, the sequence of prayers that sounds at the beginning of many services and services, including at the beginning of the usual morning and evening prayers: "King of Heaven", Trisagion, "Holy Trinity", "Our Father".

In addition, there is a custom to read "O Heavenly King" to call on the Holy Spirit before starting any business. Surely one of those things is prayer, church service. And this, presumably, explains the inclusion of the prayer "O Heavenly King" in the composition of the usual beginning.

Finally, this prayer is one of the stichera of the Pentecost service - and it is precisely this circumstance that has become the reason for our note today. However, let us first consider the text of the prayer itself.

We address the Holy Spirit as the Heavenly King (cf. the beginning of the Lord's Prayer: "Our Father who art in Heaven..."). This address, strictly speaking, is not specific to the Third Hypostasis. So, for example, on Lenten Vespers the prayer “Heavenly King, confirm the faith ...” is read, which most likely refers to Christ - but this is not entirely clear; one can also think that it is addressed to the Holy Trinity.

This is followed by the appeal "Comforter" (Greek Παράκλητος). So the Savior called the Holy Spirit in a conversation with the disciples: “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Comforter, that he may be with you forever, the Spirit of truth, Whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him and does not know Him; but you know him, for he abides with you and will be in you” (John 14:16-17). In addition to the obvious meaning "one who consoles", this word can also be understood in the meaning of "intermediary", "walk", "intercessor".

About the Holy Spirit, as well as God "in general", we speak as about the omnipresent: "He who is everywhere." The Church Slavonic expression that follows - "do everything" - probably confuses many. As can be seen from the above Russian translation, in this case we are not talking about the fulfillment of our prayers and desires, but all about the same thing - about the omnipresent Deity: "fulfilling everything" means "filling everything with Himself." However, something more can be seen here: the Holy Spirit does not just “mechanically” fill the universe with Himself, but He animates it, every second maintains its existence - otherwise everything would fall apart and fall apart, since the world we see has no other reason for its own emergence and lasting existence besides God.

There is another expression in Church Slavonic translation prayer, which, as one might suppose, is misunderstood by many: “The treasure of the good” does not mean at all that the Holy Spirit is some kind of treasure for good people. No, the Life-Giving Spirit is the treasury of blessings, the receptacle and source of all that is good and good.

All those words and expressions that were just discussed - all this was an appeal, which occupies about two-thirds of the prayer. And then comes the pleading part.

What do we ask God the Holy Spirit? We ask Him to come and dwell "in us". The latter can be understood in two ways (and one understanding by no means excludes the other): either we want each of us to become the abode of the Spirit, the temple of God; or (cf. John 1:14) – so that the Holy Spirit dwells among us, between us, uniting us into one body of Christ.

Then we ask that the Spirit, having settled in us, cleanse us of all filth - that is, from passions, from sin - and that He, the Good (i.e., good) will save our souls, that is, would deliver us from the power of the world, the devil and, again, our own passions, and that He would give us the Kingdom of Heaven - that is, His own Kingdom (see the beginning of the prayer).

As mentioned above, the prayer "To the King of Heaven" is part of the service of the feast of Pentecost (in other words, the Day of the Holy Trinity). Recall that this prayer is not read in the period from Pascha to Pentecost: during the Paschal period it is replaced by three readings (or singing) of the troparion of Pascha, and from Ascension to Pascha it is not replaced by anything at all - and this significant absence emphasizes the tension with which the Church every year awaits the day of the sending of the Holy Spirit. And on the day of Pentecost, after seven weeks of a kind of abstinence, the prayer “To the King of Heaven” sounds again (it is often sung by the people) - first at the great vespers, as the penultimate stichera on the verse, and then twice at matins - after the 50th psalm and before the great doxology (instead of the usual "Blessed be Thou, Virgin Mother of God ..."). From that day on, "O Heavenly King" is read daily until the first day of Pascha.

Then wait a little until all your feelings come to silence and thoughts leave everything earthly, and then do the prescribed short prayers with bows, without haste, and with attention from the heart.

Subsequent prayers until "Our Father" inclusive are read in full where the liturgical books indicate “further the Trisagion:” or “further the Trisagion, according to “Our Father:”.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now, and always, and forever and ever. Amen.

When it is written “Glory:”, “And now:”, it is necessary to read in full: “ Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit“, “ And now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

In the Church Slavonic language there is no sound ё, and therefore it is necessary to read “we call”, and not “call”, “your”, and not “your”, “mine”, and not “mine”, etc.

And now enlighten the eyes of my thoughts, open my mouth, so that I may learn Your word, and understand Your commandments, and do Your will, and sing, glorifying You from the heart, and sing of Your all-holy name, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit now and always and forever and ever. Amen.

Come, let us worship our King, God!

Come, let us worship and fall down before Christ, the King, our God!

And now enlighten my eyes of thought, open my mouth to learn thy words, and understand thy commandments, and do thy will, and sing thee in confession of the heart, and sing thy all-holy name, the Father and the Son in the presence of the other, and the Holy centuries. Amen.

Come, let us bow down and bow down to Christ, the King of our God. (Bow)

Come, let us bow down and bow down to Christ Himself, the King and our God. (Bow)

Otherwise, faith, even in Thee, saves the desperate, behold, I believe, save me, for you are my God and the Creator. The Holy Spirit helps you resist temptation. People should not be afraid of all these temptations, the Lord God and the Holy Spirit will certainly help us not to succumb to them. The Holy Spirit will in every possible way show a person the path of God, by which it will be possible to get out of the situation, if somehow the person still got into it.

Actions of the Holy Spirit before a person becomes a Christian

Long before a person becomes a Christian, the Holy Spirit already begins to worry about him.

  • Even from the moment when a person is just a child, the Holy Spirit begins to report sin. He addresses everyone exclusively through the human conscience. At the moment when a person in any way tries not to pay attention to the voice of conscience, he gradually leads himself to the fact that he stops hearing the Holy Spirit, which means that at the moment when He tries to convict him, he will not notice it.

Heavenly King, Comforter, Soul of Truth, Who is everywhere and fills everything, Treasury of the good and Giver of life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save, O Blessed, our souls.

This prayer is repeatedly read and sung at the festive service of Pentecost and is among the initial prayers of almost all church services and house rule(in particular, prayers in the morning and for the dream to come). Why is it one of the first to read? - So that during our prayer Spirit Himself interceded for us with inexpressible sighs(Rom. 8:26).

Before proceeding to explain this prayer, familiar to all of us, let us remember Who the Holy Spirit is and what His action is in man.

The Holy Spirit is a Divine Person, the Third Person of the Holy Trinity, the King of Heaven, the Comforter, the Spirit of truth, penetrating and filling everything, the Source of blessings and the Giver of Life (Life-Giving). He is the true God, eternally (out of time) comes from the Father. The Holy Spirit has omniscience, omnipresence, omnipotence, the ability to work miracles, cleanse people from sin, regenerate and sanctify their souls, and help them in doing good deeds. Inspired books were written by His intuition, He put the words of God into the mouths of the prophets and apostles. He descended on the apostles in the form of tongues of fire on the day of Pentecost.

The Holy Spirit is constantly at work in the Church of Christ. By its action during the Liturgy, a great Sacrament is performed: the transposition of the Holy Gifts - bread and wine - into the Body and Blood of Christ. During the Sacrament of Confirmation, which takes place immediately after Baptism, the Holy Spirit descends on a person and puts into his soul the seed of a new grace-filled life in Christ. Further, it depends on the person himself (and his relatives, if Baptism occurred in infancy) whether this good seed will sprout and bear fruit or will be drowned out by weeds.

The Monk Seraphim of Sarov taught that the goal of a Christian's life is the acquisition of the Holy Spirit, that is, such a state of a person when the Holy Spirit incomprehensibly dwells in him and dwells in him, introducing him to the fullness of Divine life. Explaining this to his disciple N. Motovilov, Father Seraphim was transformed: his face shone like the sun. And then, through his prayer, the Lord gave Motovilov to experience the power of the action of the Holy Spirit: peace, silence, joy, warmth, sweetness, fragrance and light that exceed any earthly idea.

We call a person holy if he has acquired (that is, acquired) the Holy Spirit. The fruits of the Spirit in such a person are righteousness and truth (see Eph. 5:9), love, joy, peace, longsuffering, goodness, mercy, faith, meekness, temperance(Gal. 5:22-23).

What does it take to acquire these wonderful qualities? - Trust every word of Christ and try to live according to His will, seek more heavenly than earthly things, try to love everyone and not offend anyone, repent of sins and beg the Lord to save us. Let us not forget that spiritual work is not so much an outward feat (prayers, frequent participation in divine services, etc.) as painstaking, constant forcing oneself to fulfill the commandments of God in thoughts, desires, words and deeds. (We know all this, but we are lazy - we think that this is how, lying on a warm stove, we will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. However, thank God, we are doing at least something - maybe the long-suffering Lord, who took two mites, will look down on us, negligent.) In all these small labors of ours, the Lord the Holy Spirit helps us. He gives grace to Church Sacraments, in home prayers; Our churches are filled with it, help is given to them through our prayer from holy icons and relics.

Let us pray together with the Apostle Paul, so that God ... gave US Spirit of wisdom and revelation to the knowledge of Him, and enlightened the eyes of the heart ours so that we know what is the hope of his calling, and what a richness of his glorious inheritance is for the saints, and how immeasurably is the greatness of his power in us(Eph. 1:17-19). And let's not forget the words of the Savior: Heavenly Father will give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him(Luke 11:13).

Now let's move on to explaining the prayer itself.

1. King, Comforter, Soul, Giver, Bliss are forms vocative(now lost). Translated into modern language these words sound like this: King, Comforter, Spirit, Giver, Good.

2. King of Heaven. We call the Holy Spirit King, Lord of the Kingdom of Heaven as God and the Third Person of the Holy Trinity.

"Heavenly" means spiritual, not earthly. The Kingdom of Heaven is also called paradise, "the life of the future age", "new heaven", "Heavenly Jerusalem" (the latter names refer to the time of the Second Coming of the Savior). In it they are blissful (they are in eternal joy and mutual love) angelic forces and souls of the righteous, for whom the Source of love and light, beyond all understanding, is God. V Heavenly Kingdom there is no evil, including death.

The Lord has commanded us, above all things earthly, to seek the Kingdom of God, which is hidden in our hearts. “The ladder (ladder) leading to the Kingdom is inside you, hidden in your soul,” says the great ascetic of the 7th century, Rev. Isaac the Syrian.

3. Comforter means "Called for help, Patron, Intercessor." The Greek verb "comfort" also means "to calm, pacify, console in sorrow, convince, instruct to a virtuous life."

4. Soul of truth- The Spirit of truth, revealing to man the truth about himself and the visible and invisible world around him (that is, about the meaning of his life, the spiritual laws of being, heaven and hell, etc.), admonishing and instructing people on the true path of God, putting words in the mouth of prophets and confessors: The Spirit of your Father will speak in you(Matthew 10:20).

Before His death on the cross The Lord told the disciples: When the Comforter comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will testify about me and guide you into all truth.(John 15, 26; 16, 13); But the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and remind you of everything that I have told you(John 14:26). After the Ascension of Christ, the Holy Spirit directly instructed and admonished the disciples who preached about Christ and His Kingdom.

5. Who is everywhere and fulfills everything- Which abides everywhere and fills everything (the whole world, the whole being).

6. treasure of the good- Source, Treasury of all that is good, kind.

7. Life Giver. The Holy Spirit gives life to the whole world, to all living things, that is, it animates, and it also gives people Divine, eternal life, that is, it inspires, provided that they seek, hunger and thirst for this life.

8. In us - in us.

9. Cleanse us from all filth. The Holy Spirit cleanses the faithful and humble in heart from sinful filth. This is necessary, since nothing bad can enter the "paradise of sweetness" of the Kingdom of Heaven. In the earthly world, Christ dwells only in those souls that are cleansed by sincere repentance.

10. Bliss. The Good Holy Spirit is referred to as one of the persons Holy Trinity, because no one is good but God alone(Mark 10:18).

11. Save... our souls. The most important thing for a person is the salvation of his soul. That is why the Lord came to earth. This is what we plead with the Holy Spirit. If it is important to save a person's earthly life, then it is incomparably more important to save his eternal soul.

About prayer. Mistakes and temptations during prayer
Author: Archpriest Arkady Steinberg
The first and most serious mistake in the prayer business is the lack of prayer. This happens either because a person has never prayed and does not know how to start it (and often - and why? ..), or because the “cares of this world” have so weakened a person that there is no longer room for God in his life.

To a lonely woman about prayer
Author: St. Nicholas of Serbia
You are grieved that God does not hear your prayers ... Do not complain about Him from Whom we have both being, and life, and breath, and mind, and everything. I beg you, do not complain about Him Who has a thousand times more right to complain about us before His angels and His saints.
Even if the Lord did not literally fulfill our prayers, they still bear fruit for our souls, making our souls more mature and rich. This is the secret that those who walk the path of spiritual experience have come to know.

The history of the prayer "To the King of Heaven" has more than a thousand years. According to the study, it was not yet known in the charter of Constantinople in the 9th century.

And this fact allows us to confidently attribute the time of its appearance to the end of the ninth and the beginning of the tenth century. According to scientists, the prayer to the King of Heaven was transferred to the tradition of home prayer practice.

It is impossible to determine the authorship and origin of the prayer. On this account, there are different opinions, someone believes that the authorship of the prayer to the Holy Spirit belongs to a hermit monk, someone thinks that the text is the creation of an emperor-hymnographer, or this is a kind of adaptation of a heretical prayer that first appeared in iconoclastic circles.

In the Orthodox interpretation, the petition to the "King of Heaven" is a text filled with dogmatic meaning for the Orthodox consciousness. And this prayer is addressed to the Holy Spirit, which is worth listening to. It is worth taking into account that the Orthodox dogma recognizes three hypostases of the One God. For each hypostasis there is a separate appeal to the comforter.

The Heavenly Patron in this case is the title with which the prayers endowed the Almighty.

The Roman Empire also serves as a kind of source that serves as a reinforcement for such titles.

Using a Prayer Address

Today, prayerful petition to the King is increasingly heard as an invocation, that is, when God is prayerfully invoked before group and personal prayers to the Holy Spirit. Orthodox usage calls it " usual start”, when they listen to the appeals to the “King of Heaven”, the prayers of the Holy Trinity and the “Our Father”.

In worship, such an appeal to the comforter is used as a stichera to the Holy Spirit, which is listened to at Vespers. It is dedicated to the feast of Pentecost and the Day of the Holy Trinity. Such a prayer originated in temple worship and is gradually listened to and used in home practice.

Prayer to the "King of Heaven"

“O Heavenly King, Comforter, Soul of Truth, Who is everywhere and fills everything, Treasury of the good and Giver of life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save, O Blessed, our souls.”

Interpretation of prayer appeal

Prayer to the King is a petition for the indulgence of the Holy Spirit and the outpouring of His presence. This is a petition for the implementation of charismatic anointing, by virtue of which the prayer is obeyed at any group worship and rites, at home prayer addresses when it becomes necessary to make it inspired by God, filled with the presence of the Holy Spirit.
