Make a hole in the glass 195 mm. We drill glass so that it does not crack. Standard option - use of a drill

Glass shelves, tables, boards for the kitchen are not only beautiful, but also practical. However, to make this shelf or table, you need to attach the glass to the rest of the parts using self-tapping screws. Not every person is able to correctly make holes in a transparent surface without damaging the glass itself.

Watch our video on how to drill glass at home and try decorating your home with original glass shelves.

To make holes in the glass, we need:
- a special drill, we will use a diamond-coated crown with a diameter of 8 millimeters;
- drill or screwdriver;
- glass;
- glass blank;
- Scotch;
- masking tape;
- a container with water to cool the surface that we wake up to cool.

We insert the drill into the drill and clamp it well there so that the drill does not dangle during drilling, but is exactly in the center.

Before we start drilling our main element, we must first prepare our workpiece. To do this, we attach adhesive tape to it on one side, it is needed so that when we drill a hole in the glass, small fragments did not fly off or lay on the table, but were glued to the adhesive tape.

The place that we will drill is moistened with water. This is necessary in order to cool the glass surface and the drill itself.

It is impossible to immediately take and drill a hole in the glass, the drill will crawl over the surface. For this, we need a template so that by inserting a drill into it, we can easily drill a hole already in the material we need.

In order not to damage the table, place a small piece of cardboard or a regular board.

Everything is ready, remove the tape and wipe with a damp cloth.

Now you can start drilling through the blank of the main glass.

We glue the workpiece to the place where we will drill the hole and fix it with masking tape so that she doesn't go.

Pour the workpiece with water.

The workpiece can be removed when the drill fits snugly into the main glass and does not jump off to the side.

It is better to drill glass from two sides. For the second side, we also need a template to go deeper a few mm inward.

Then we remove everything superfluous from the glass with a cloth so that there is no dirt and smudges.

When carrying out repairs in the house, there is often a need to make holes for hanging shelves, attaching mirrors. Both glass and products made from it are no exception, despite their fragility. We will tell you some of the nuances and subtleties of the process that will help you get the job done with the help of improvised tools that are available in every home.

IN industrial environment a special tool is used to make holes in the glass. But for special cases, its purchase is not advisable, there are more simple methods which we will consider below. According to the first method, a conventional drill is used to drill glass, and we act according to the following instructions:
  1. Choosing the right drill for metal. Better yet, take the one intended for ceramic tiles, which has a victorious tip.
  2. You will also need a low-speed drill or screwdriver, alcohol, plasticine and turpentine.
  3. The drill must first be hardened on fire, clamped with pliers and placed in a flame gas burner.
  4. Next, send the tool to the container where the sealing wax is located, and leave it to cool.
  5. Place the glass on a flat and solid surface, the material should not hang over it.
  6. The speed at which you will work with a drill is minimal.
  7. After inserting the drill into the drill, be sure to check its runout and change the tool if this parameter is large.
  8. Degrease the glass using alcohol.
  9. Make a circle to limit when drilling, plasticine is great.
  10. Make a hole by moistening the tip of the drill in turpentine.
The second method involves using a piece of copper wire or a tube as a drill. It is fixed in the drill chuck. To work, you will need a special paste, which consists of turpentine (2 parts), camphor (1 part), emery powder (4 parts). This composition is applied immediately before the working process to the drilling site.

The third method is to use a flat file fixed in a drill. The tool must be sharpened and look like a sharp chisel. When drilling glass, it is necessary to pause periodically to sharpen the needle file. By the way, a material that has a thickness of 6 millimeters can be drilled in 15 minutes.

The fourth way of making holes in glass is very ancient, because once there were no tools such as a drill or a screwdriver:
  • For work, prepare tin or lead, a gas burner, alcohol, sand, a metal mug.
  • To prepare the drilling site, treat the glass with alcohol, mark the contour of the drilling.
  • Pour wet sand onto the surface, in which you need to make a funnel of a certain size.
  • Tin or lead should be poured into this mold, after melting it to a temperature of 250-300 degrees. The sand mold must be filled completely.
  • After a couple of minutes, remove the sand.
  • When the solder is removed, a piece of glass will fall off along with the ebb and form through hole.

In addition, if you can modify the drill, then there will be no need to use lubricating fluids. A diamond roller is used, extracted from a tile cutter, which is fixed in a metal rod, more precisely in a slot in it. And then it remains only to fix the homemade drill in the drill.

The first way to do glass bottle hole - use a drill. Take a diamond drill of the diameter it should be. Wear safety goggles and gloves - the smallest fragments can injure your eyes and hands. Secure the bottle in a vise. If they are not at home, ask an assistant to hold the vessel tightly. Don't forget to equip him with protective equipment. Lubricate the drill with clean machine oil. Attach the drill to the glass. Press lightly and press the power button. One or two seconds is enough for a hole to appear.

The second way to make a hole in came to us from those times, only rare lucky ones owned drills and punchers. Everyone else made holes in it with a copper tube filled with sand. Take a metal gut of the desired diameter. Fill it with sand about half way. Moisten the bottle and the end of the tube with water. Have someone help you and hold the vessel firmly while you work with it. Press the copper gut to the surface very tightly. Try not to leave the vessel during everything. Rotate the tube by holding it between your palms until a hole appears. This usually takes three to ten minutes.

The third way to make a hole is to carefully chip off the bottom. It is very important to be safe here and wear thick gloves made of non-combustible material, as you will have to deal with fire. The procedure cannot be carried out indoors, only on outdoors! Prepare a bucket of water. She must be cold. Wrap the vessel with a cloth soaked in gasoline or diesel fuel. Put it on and set it on fire. Wait for the material to burn through. With gloved hands, grab the bottle by the neck and dip into the liquid. The bottom will fall off on its own.

People often wonder how to drill a hole in a bottle. With the skills and the right tools, it's not that hard to do. You will not need as much time as it might seem at first glance. Evaluate your capabilities when choosing one of the methods and get to work.

Instruction

Wrap the bottle you want to make a hole in with masking tape 2-3 times. Please note that there is no seam at the drilling site. Mark the drilling site with a cross. Take a special glass drill and (looks like a triangular arrowhead). Start drilling by dipping the drill in water. Drill at medium speed carefully, without pressure, keeping the drill straight. Moisten the tool with water and drip regularly on the drilling site. To supply water, you can use a tube with a clip or a medical dropper. Instead of water, you can use a mixture of 1 part turpentine with 1 part camphor. Ream the hole after the drill has passed through with gentle twisting movements to make the edges smoother. Finish the cut edge with coarse sandpaper or a file.

Mark the future hole with a felt-tip pen. Make a plasticine rim around the drilling site. Take a diamond core drill (looks like a straw). Start drilling by sharply pressing the trigger of the drill to make the drill easier to hook on the surface of the glass. Pour water into the plasticine rim. Drill at low speed. Cool the cut, keeping it constantly in water so that the glass does not burst. Rinse the groove obtained during operation from glass dust and splinters. The closer to the end of the work, the less pressure on the drill and the lower the speed of rotation of the drill.

Take the steel drill. Heat it up to white heat and harden it in mercury or sealing wax. Sharpen it. Soak the drill in a mixture of camphor and turpentine. Insert the drill into the brace and quickly drill through the bottle.

Take a triangular file and insert it into a drill. Dip it in turpentine and carefully start drilling.

For decorative or practical purposes, it is sometimes necessary to make a hole in a glass bottle. This is not as difficult as it may seem, but first practice on unnecessary dishes so as not to ruin a rare collectible bottle.

You will need

  • - air gun;
  • - drill with a diamond or hardened steel drill;
  • - turpentine;
  • - sulphuric acid;
  • - water;
  • - sand or clay;
  • - a template made of wood, foam, glass, metal or other material;
  • - emery powder.

Instruction

Most fast way: take with a well-charged cylinder. Stand at a distance of several meters, carefully aim and shoot at the bottle. The ejected ball will pierce the bottle through and through without breaking it. Please note that there will be two holes, and a rather small diameter.

To drill into bottle hole the desired diameter, first prepare a device for securely fixing the dishes, for example, a box in which they will fit tightly. Take a diamond drill for ceramics and very carefully, without pressing, drill. Be sure to consider the cooling system. It can be constantly flowing water (you will need an assistant here) or a specially prepared cooler. To make it, make a template out of wood, foam, or other material by drilling a hole the desired diameter, and attach it with wax to bottle. Fill the hole with emery powder (you can get it from sandpaper or an abrasive wheel) mixed with turpentine.

To drill hole in glass bottle steel drill, before use, heat it white and soak in sulfuric acid.

To drill hole large diameter, take a tube of non-ferrous metal (aluminum, brass, copper, bronze) 2.5-5 cm long and use it as a drill. Attach a circle of foam, glass, wood, metal or other material of the desired diameter to the glass; the tube will rest against it when drilling. Pour emery moistened with water into the open end of the tube and drill slowly, at low speeds. Make sure that the emery paste is always between the edges of the tube and the glass.

If you want to do without drilling, use clay or fine sand. Thoroughly wash the surface of grease and dirt with acetone, alcohol or gasoline. Pour wet sand or clay, mixed to a doughy state, in the form of a hill about 10 mm high. Make a funnel with a stick or other tool, while the diameter of the translucent glass inside the hole should match the diameter of the desired hole. Melt lead, tin or other solder in a metal jar, pour it into the resulting hole. The hole will turn out with smooth edges, but learn that this method is suitable for glass no thicker than 3 mm.

The fragile, capricious and brittle structure of household glass introduces very significant difficulties in the processing of this matter. Glass it is quite difficult to cut into curly canvases, and to do in it through holes even more difficult. Still, sometimes it is simply necessary to sample the material in a glass sheet. However, in order to successfully drill glass in living conditions you need to know a few specific tricks.

Before proceeding to drilling holes in glass it needs to be prepared for work. Initially, it must be dismantled or released from the frame, if any. Then you need to remove all external decorating elements, such as corners, decorative rivets, suction cups and other materials. After that, it is necessary to remove stickers and translations, and then the front sides of the glass sheet should be treated with degreasing agents.

You can drill glass both manually and, however, experts recommend sampling material from glass sheets using an electric drill. This recommendation is explained by the density of the glass structure, because its selection requires high drill speeds with a minimum load on the drilled material. The glass sheet during the drilling process should be located on a perfectly flat, smooth surface, the material should lie flat against the working base, otherwise the glass may simply crack.

Also, before drilling glass with any of the spot drills, it is desirable to core the drilling site. To do this, you need to put a roller glass cutter in the center of the future hole, lightly press on it and turn the tool one turn along its longitudinal axis. Thus, a tiny depression is formed on the glass sheet, and from the very beginning of drilling, the drill bit will not float on the surface of the glass. You can also stick a transparent adhesive tape in 2-3 layers on the drilling site.

Glass can be drilled with traditionally hardened drills, this tool unlike conventional ones, it has a more durable material of the cutting part, which allows you to slowly but surely drill out the glass structure. Hardened drills can be bought in specialized stores, and you can also make them yourself.

To harden a conventional steel drill, it must be heated red-hot on an alcohol burner or a conventional cooker. Then the heated drill must be sharply lowered into a container with sealing wax and the tool is cooled. Hardened drills should be lubricated with turpentine before use. But still best result can be achieved using a special diamond drill.

Sampling of glass matter can be done using copper wire or a hollow copper tube. These tools are an alternative to hardened drills and are also used as drill bits.

Drilling glass with thick copper wire is possible only when a special composition is applied to the glass. The working mixture should consist of one part camphor, two parts turpentine and four parts emery powder. The prepared composition must be applied to the glass area in which the material will be sampled.

Drilling glass with a hollow copper tube is only possible using corundum powder. To do this, the drilled zone must be overlaid with a plasticine barrier one centimeter high within a radius of two centimeters. Then corundum powder moistened with water should be poured into the formed depression and drilling can begin.

Formation of large round holes in glass sheets it is difficult to call drilling, since their implementation is based on glass cutting. Initially, exactly in the center of the future circle, it is necessary to drill a small through hole. Then the glass must be laid on a flat wooden surface and through the formed hole in wooden base you need to drive a small carnation. A nylon thread must be tied to the nail, and a glass cutter should be fixed at the end of the thread at a distance of the future radius of the hole. With a tool, it is necessary to draw a circle along the border of the stretched thread, and then knock out unnecessary material with light taps. Sharpen the sharp edge with fine sandpaper.

- the material is extremely fragile and difficult to process at home. However, in some cases the knowledge how to drill glass, might be useful to you. For example, if there is a need to hang glass shelves on the wall, a mirror in the bathroom, or repair a damaged glass table. How to do the right glass repair, this article will tell.

How to drill a hole in glass

Few people know, but you can get an even and neat hole in the glass using the most ordinary drill. However, you will need a fire-hardened drill bit. If this is not at hand, it is necessary to harden an ordinary steel drill. To do this, it must be placed in the flame of a gas burner and held until it turns red. After heating, the drill is placed in a container with sealing wax, where it cools. After this procedure, such a drill can be used to create holes in the glass. It is recommended to moisten the tip of the drill with turpentine before drilling. Also, do not forget that all work must be carried out only with the strictest observance of safety rules. To protect yourself from small glass fragments and crumbs, use transparent glasses and gloves. It is also recommended to carry out all work in special work clothes, since small particles of glass can get stuck in clothes.

Hole with wire

This method similar to the previous one, however, in this case, we replace the drill with a piece of ordinary copper wire. This piece is placed in the drill chuck. It is necessary to apply a special composition to the glass, which can be prepared in home environment. It is a paste that is obtained by mixing two parts of turpentine, one part of camphor and four parts of emery powder. The resulting paste must be applied in a thin layer on the glass exactly in the place where it is planned to drill a hole.

Needle file instead of drill

A flat file is a small file used for sanding small parts. However, if it is properly sharpened, then with its help it is quite possible to drill a hole in the glass. The file should be sharpened in the shape of a chisel, after which it is firmly fixed in the drill chuck and used as conventional drill. The disadvantage of this method is that the needle file must be periodically removed from the cartridge and re-sharpened.

Glass drilling with tubes

To drill in this way, you will need a working space. Perfectly clean glass sheet should be placed on a comfortable flat surface and fixed securely. First you need to mark a place for the hole, and then lay out a circle of plasticine about 1 centimeter high around it. Corundum powder diluted with water is poured into the formed "capacity". After that, you should carefully start drilling by clamping a straight copper tube into the drill chuck.

This method may also involve the use of duralumin or aluminum tube. However, there are nuances here. A wooden plug should be hammered into one end of the tube, to a depth of approximately 25 millimeters. The other end of the tube is turned into sharp teeth with a small file with three edges. A screw is screwed into a wooden cork so that the cap protrudes above the surface of the pipe. The hat is sawn off, and pieces of cardboard with a ready-made hole of the size you need are glued to both sides of the glass.

Before drilling, it is recommended to put a sheet of glass on something rubber. This measure will avoid unnecessary glass vibration. Corundum powder is again poured into the drilling site. The sharp teeth on the tube are dipped into turpentine, and the end of the screw is clamped into the drill chuck. If the drilling is successful and the tube goes deep into the glass, after some time it is necessary to turn the sheet over and continue the drilling process, but from the other side.

How to get a large diameter hole in glass

No matter how good the ways glass drilling described above, they do not allow the creation of a sufficiently large diameter hole. This method is not drilling, but it is able to provide the result you need.

First, thoroughly clean and degrease the glass surface. After that, the place of the hole is marked, around which wet sand is laid out. There should be a hole in the center of the sand.

Further actions require maximum accuracy and compliance with safety rules. In a special container, it is necessary to heat the solder. Its temperature should be at least 250-280 degrees. There should be just enough solder to fill the prepared sand mold. Next, you just need to wait until the tin cools down, after which a piece of glass will fall off with it, leaving you with an even and neat
