  • drill with attachment;
  • level;
  • pencil;
  • spatula, trowel;
  • sandpaper;
  • brush or roller;
  • putty;
  • stencil;
  • bonding primer;
  • Venetian and decorative plaster;
  • color;
  • decorative coating the desired color;
  • paint;
  • decorative elements (decorative stone, small pebbles, etc.).

First, a place on the wall is selected where it will be placed decorative panel and with the help of a level and a pencil, marking is done.

First of all, you need to choose a place on the wall where the decorative panel will be placed and, using a level and a pencil, make a markup. Next, you need to prepare the surface of the wall. It should be flat, without cracks or other defects. If you have paint or wallpaper on your wall that does not adhere well, you need to remove the old covering with a spatula. It is advisable to prime the cleaned surface with a putty.

After the putty is dry, any irregularities can be sanded off. To increase the adhesion of the materials, apply a layer of adhesion primer with a brush or roller, which is inexpensive and dries quickly.

Creating the main background

In order to create the main background of the decorative panel, Venetian plaster is used.

Venetian plaster is used to create the main background of the decorative panel. For the manufacture of "Venetian" acrylic latex is used, in which functional additives, water and a thickener are mixed. Before applying Venetian plaster it must first be given the appropriate color. This procedure can be done either in the store where the material was purchased, or at home using full-color paint (color scheme) and a drill with a nozzle.

"Venetian" is good because it can be applied on any surface: chipboard, drywall, brick, fiberboard, concrete and on old paint coatings (if they are strong).

Stir well before applying the Venetian.

It is imperative to look at the container for the drying time of the plaster in order to know approximately how much time you have to create the coating.

Such plaster dries completely in a day, and in a state convenient for work, it is no more than 30 minutes. This time can be increased slightly if the plaster is periodically moistened with water.

The plaster is applied with a trowel or trowel to the surface in a thin layer about 2 mm thick. Much depends on work skills: if you are working with plaster for the first time, then the thickness of the application can be slightly increased.

Working with a trowel, apply it to the plaster with the entire "sole", then lightly press down and tear it off the surface. As a result of such actions, a surface with tubercles and pits should be obtained. For these purposes, you can also use a natural sponge.

When working with a trowel, you need to apply it to the plaster with the entire "sole", then press and tear it off the surface.

At the next stage of work, the surface of the decorative plaster is ironed with a trowel with rounded corners... This must be done very carefully so as not to make the surface absolutely smooth. Ideally, the plaster should have both uneven and smoothed areas.

After the "Venetian" dries up, its surface needs to be sanded a little and a decorative coating applied (bronze, silver, gold, mother-of-pearl or other). This coating is applied in a thin layer using a brush or plastic spatula. After the coating has dried, start creating the pattern.

Decorative plaster is a very interesting, effective and, importantly, practical material. Using various types of decorative plaster and techniques for its application, you can always create exclusive design, moreover, decorative plaster will be appropriate in any interior style.

You can apply decorative plaster on the entire wall or only on a part of the wall; you can use different types of plaster or different application options in the same room in order to zone the space or visually highlight certain sections of the walls. Another option for using decorative plaster is to create a wall panel that can become a highlight of your interior.

Do-it-yourself decorative plaster panel

Preparatory stage

Choose a place on the wall where the wall panel will be located, mark it with a level and a pencil. In our case, the place for the decorative panel was ready in advance - the squares were already highlighted on the wall, which were decorated with plaster at the edges. stucco decor... The original wall covering is paint.

Before we get creative, we need to prepare the surface of the wall. The base must be even, free from cracks and other defects. If you previously had wallpaper or paint on the wall, which is already fragile, then you need to remove the old coating with a spatula.

It is better to prime the cleaned surface by applying a thin layer of putty. It is more convenient to apply the putty with a metal spatula.

After the putty has dried (the drying time is indicated by the manufacturer on the packaging), any irregularities can be sanded with fine-grained emery paper. The next step is to apply a layer of deep penetration primer (adhesion primer). Although some well-known manufacturers of putties write that it is possible to apply a topcoat without using a primer, it is better to use a primer to increase the adhesion of materials. It is inexpensive, the application time is a matter of minutes, it dries very quickly too. Apply the primer with a roller or brush.

Creating the main background of the decorative panel

The main background of the wall panel is created from. Venetian plaster is made on the basis of acrylic latex, to which functional additives, a thickener and water are added. The coating is intended for internal works, it is completely ready for use. Before applying the Venetian, it must be tinted in the color you need, which can be done either where you buy the material (in a store, a decor salon), or at home using a color scheme (full-color paint) and a drill with a nozzle.

Why is Venetian plaster good in this case? The fact that it can be applied to any surface: concrete, brick, drywall, fiberboard and chipboard, cement and cement-lime plaster, on old (durable) paint coatings.

The method of applying Venetian plaster in our case is radically different from the traditional one - a coating was made, which is called "ostrich skin".

Stir thoroughly before applying Venetian plaster. Be sure to look at the container for the drying time of the plaster so that you know how much time you have to create the coating. Finally, the plaster dries up after 24 hours, and in a state convenient for work, it usually lasts for 20-30 minutes. But the time can be slightly extended by wetting the plaster with a little water.

Apply the plaster with a spatula or trowel on the wall with a thin layer (but not translucent, as with the traditional way drawing "Venetian"). The layer thickness should be about 2 mm, but a lot depends on the skills. If this is your first time working with decorative plaster, then the layer will probably be larger.

We apply the trowel completely with the entire “sole” to the plaster, press it slightly (!) And “tear it off” from the plaster - a surface should be obtained that looks a bit like a lunar surface, that is, the whole is covered with tubercles different sizes and pits. You can try using a natural sponge for these purposes.

The next step is to iron the surface of the decorative plaster with a trowel with rounded corners, but this must be done very carefully so as not to make the entire surface absolutely smooth. Ideally, the surface should have both smoothed areas and uneven ("pimpled", but with smoothed tops).

After the Venetian plaster has dried, the surface should be slightly sanded with emery paper, then we apply a decorative coating "gold" (in this case - ArteTwin Effect Gold), you can also use a silver coating, bronze, mother-of-pearl or a combination thereof. Such a coating is applied with a brush in a thin layer. A plastic spatula can be used for application.

When the coating is dry, we proceed to create a three-dimensional pattern.

How to make a three-dimensional drawing from decorative plaster

To create the picture, we need another decorative plaster. The plaster must contain graded sand and be flexible so that volume can be easily created.

You can choose any drawing. In our case, figures of a man, a woman and a child in the African style were used, which is due to the general style of the bedroom, where, in fact, the decorative panel is located.

A protective paper layer is separated from the stencil, the adhesive layer is applied to the wall. Apply decorative plaster with a spatula with a layer of 2-4 mm, filling the holes of the stencil. We remove the stencil. Depending on the drawing, we perform additional elements... For example, in our case we do “ curly hair"At the figures of people. To perform such elements, you may need: a small spatula, a brush and other tools. We used a face cream "spatula".

To decorate the figurines, one earring (jewelry) and part of a gold chain were also used. You need to fix them while the plaster is still plastic.

While the decorative plaster is drying, additional panel elements can be made. For example, place several glass decorative stones, small pebbles, etc. You can fix it on the same decorative plaster (we apply a thin smear, let it dry a little, fix the stone, fix it so that the plaster protruding along the edges of the stone looks neat).

You need to paint the figures with the paints recommended by the plaster manufacturer. In this case, acrylic paint was used for interior work.

We take an ordinary small brush for drawing and the paints we need, color in the picture. By the way, paint can also be applied to stones and plaster around them.

Clothing - the skirt and loincloth are made of leather. Surely you have an old bag, boots or jacket that can be used for this purpose. Cut out small pieces from the skin using scissors. It should be borne in mind that even good, thin skin for creating a panel is a little "thick". We take wallpaper or regular knife and with back side gently peel off the skin so that we have almost only upper layer... Thinner skin will look much better in the composition, and its edges will fit snugly. Alternatively, the leather can be steamed or ironed on the back and then wrinkled to give it a more natural look.

Fasten the skirt and loincloth with Moment glue. On top, you can apply a layer of "gold" with light strokes, which was used to create the main background.

In such decorative panels, you can use any "improvised means" - beautiful buttons, beads, beads, stones, shells and much more.

When choosing a drawing for a wall panel, consider general style premises. You can also make a drawing that will "overlap" with the drawing on your decorative pillows, curtains or bedspread.

Decorative plaster is one of the most popular materials used by modern designers. With its help, you can not only plaster the walls, but also create a spectacular panel that will bring a special atmosphere to your home and become the main color accent of the interior.

A decorative plaster panel will bring a special atmosphere to the home and will become the main color accent of the interior.

Preparatory work and application of the Venetian

You will need:

  • Venetian plaster;
  • deep penetration primer;
  • trowel;
  • sandpaper;
  • putty;
  • trowel with rounded corners.

Before making a panel from decorative plaster, it is necessary to carry out preparatory work. The first step is to decide on the place where the drawing is applied and make the markup. A simple pencil and ruler can be used for this purpose. If you use a stencil, then mark the wall with it. In the event that you find damage from nails or dowels on the wall, putty them, then smooth the surface with fine-grain sandpaper.

After that, the place under the decorative plaster panel should be primed. Use a deep penetration primer to greatly improve the adhesion of the materials. The primer can be applied with a roller or brush in 1-2 thin coats. It is necessary to allow the solution to dry completely, only then proceed to the next stage (applying the Venetian).

As a rule, a Venetian is used for the background of a decorative plaster panel. In this case, the technology of its application is significantly different. First you need to give the plaster the desired shade. For this purpose, use a special color scheme, add it to the plaster, then mix well with construction mixer... Remember that after the Venetian dries, it will be half a tone darker - this must be taken into account when adding color. If you are afraid of taking on such a job, then ask for this service when buying in a store.

The Venetian is applied to the wall with a trowel (a thin layer of 2-3 mm). In this case, the trowel is first pressed against the wall, then abruptly torn off - thus the effect of "ostrich skin" is obtained. You can do otherwise - first apply plaster the usual way, then walk over the surface with a foam rubber sponge (in abrupt movements).

After the Venetian is dry, it is polished with a trowel with rounded corners. It is important to be careful not to smooth out the relief completely. The main task is to get a coating with small bumps, depressions, cracks and dents. Further, the surface of the plaster is tinted with mother-of-pearl, gold or silver glaze (you can replace acrylic paint, which is diluted with water and applied with a thin glazing layer). At this stage preparatory work can be considered complete.

Decorative plaster panel

You will need:

  • stencil;
  • putty knife;
  • construction tape;
  • decorative plaster;
  • acrylic paints;
  • sandpaper.

After the Venetian dries up, they begin to perform the panel. First you need to attach the stencil to the wall using construction tape. When the stencil has an adhesive backing, tape is not used. If you applied the drawing yourself, glue its borders with the same masking tape.

In order to make a stencil yourself, take a sheet of thick paper, apply a pattern on it, then laminate transparent film on an adhesive basis. After that, using a scalpel or a clerical knife, cut out all that is unnecessary. Instead of paper, you can use thick film, then the lamination step is skipped.

Decorative plaster for the panel must be of a plastic consistency and contain fractional sand. In addition, it should look good against a Venetian backdrop. The plaster is applied to the wall with a spatula; it is not necessary to smooth the surface.

After you have applied the ornament, immediately remove the stencil from the wall and rinse with water. If the plaster dries up, it will be much more difficult to do this.

When the panel is dry, lightly rub over it with fine sandpaper. This is necessary in order to get rid of errors in the work, as well as to smooth the surface in some places. After that, the composition is painted with paints that are combined with this type of decoration. Acrylic paints are most often used, as they work well with most types of decorative plaster.

If you wish, you can diversify the decorative panel with the help of various inserts: beads, mosaics, shells, colored glass (the elements are glued onto wet plaster). Making a decorative panel with your own hands is not so difficult if you study the technology and follow the advice of experts.

The hood post is located in the apartment in the kitchen. The photos below show the pillar before and after the embossing.

The theme for the plot was suggested to me based on the pictures of the kitchen apron, which were offered in the company's catalog. These are the silhouettes of African animals - elephants, giraffes.

All the colors of the kitchen were planned in a similar range - these are black, brown, white walls and furniture. Based on the samples shown and interior details, I made rough sketches, there are four in the photo different options.
Then on the wall itself, changing the details in words, I sketched in pencil approximate location picture. Next, work began with surface preparation and relief application. The work is interesting but very tedious, because. each next layer you need to calculate in advance and wait for complete drying. Before painting, all relief details must be completely finished, dry and sanded. At the request of the customer, for little child I made the lower part of the relief panel more elaborated in detail - these are different volumetric flowers, snails, grass ...

Embossed plaster panel

The surface for all elements of decorative plaster is prepared in advance. The drawing of the plants is taken from different photographs.

Photo of relief, detail - snails

Figures of volumetric snails are molded separately, after complete drying they are primed and glued to the surface of the decorative panel

There are many subtleties and nuances in the work on the relief texture, which I will try to describe later in the articles “how to do it yourself”. For such relief works, in addition to the most voluminous decor, two things are very important - this is the subsequent painting of the texture and its lighting. Painting and lighting can easily reduce or enhance the visual effect of relief paintings. Below, under the photographs, changing pictures of the same part of the relief are shown when different lighting.

Imitation flowers - small parts decorative panels made of plaster ... Each flower, blade of grass is molded and attached separately. To give different texture details, you can use any materials at hand.

Relief on the wall - giraffes

Under different lighting conditions, the texture of the plaster can be distinguished by the contrasts of shadows. Volumetric figures giraffes were fashioned from textured plaster- two, three layers. The wet mass is modeled on the wall with mastekhin or wet soft brushes.

  • You can make it more expressive and lively with the help of backlighting;
  • With the help of a plaster composition, you can hide small wall defects;
  • Gypsum is easy to restore.

It is quite easy to make a small panel at home, having purchased plaster and a mold in advance. All you need to do is to dilute the gypsum to the thickness of liquid sour cream, pour it into the finished form, wait until the solution hardens and get the product, prime it and, if necessary, apply paint, and fix it with PVA glue on top. That's all, the plaster panel is ready.

The choice of a subject for a gypsum panel can be very diverse: from abstraction to a specific drawing

If the gypsum has run out during the work, then the panel elements can be made of decorative plaster.

The gypsum panel looks great in any part of the house or apartment. Volumetric panels in the size of the entire wall look especially impressive and stylish. Consider an example of creating a plaster flower.

Master class on making a flower from plaster:

  • The surface of the wall must be made perfectly flat and then puttyed;
  • Without pressing, apply the future drawing on the wall with a pencil;
  • To apply plaster mix with a palette knife, precisely highlighting the relief of the flower;
  • After drying, sand all irregularities with coarse sandpaper;
  • Apply in a thin layer finishing putty around the entire perimeter of the flower;
  • After drying, sand the flower with fine sandpaper;
  • Cover the flower with snow-white acrylic paint in two layers;
  • Highlight convex sharp edges with gold paint using a thin brush.

After the panel has completely dried, it can be fixed with glossy varnish on the stone. Thanks to this finishing touch, the flower will look like porcelain and will have golden tints along the edges.

A decorative panel with voluminous plaster flowers will decorate the bedroom, create a sincere atmosphere in the resting place

It is possible to perfectly complement the design of the home thanks to such an amazing and wonderful thing as a decorative plaster panel on the wall. From this material, you can create voluminous compositions of striking beauty.

It is quite easy to make a decorative panel with your own hands. Consider the process of making a panel for the kitchen in the form of a cup.

  • Preparing two containers: directly the cup itself and another larger container, let it be flower pot similar shape;
  • Cover the outside of the cup with soapy water to prevent the solution from sticking;
  • We immerse the cup evenly in a horizontal position in the pot and fill the free space between them with sand up to half;
  • Fill in gypsum mortar to the original form;
  • When the plaster is dry, carefully remove the mold from the pot of sand and remove the cup.

A beautiful and stylish plaster panel will help revive the static kitchen interior, will reflect your personality and taste

As a result, we got a cast of half of the cup, repeating its shape. Next, you need to dry the cast well and lubricate it completely with soapy water. After that, you need to fill it again with an even layer of gypsum.

In the process of pouring the solution, the form should be constantly shaken a little so that all the air comes out and, as a result, does not remain on the product.

You can make this kind of form in any quantity. You can paint them with multi-colored paints or cover all the elements with white. You can fix the composition with a frame made of baguettes or other homemade materials... The bas-relief is fixed on the wall liquid nails... Such products decorate the wall and add zest, make it more voluminous and interesting.

Making a plaster panel with your own hands, as we have seen, is not difficult. But not everyone dares to make it unusual and give it the old fashioned way. The main thing is to choose the right required material and get a little familiar with the application technique special paints the desired shades. Such vintage panels will have a graceful and special sophisticated look.

With the help of paint and bitumen wax, you can give the panel a certain charm and spirit of antiquity.

Vintage panels are made as follows:

  • We take bituminous wax and carefully apply it to the surface of the panel with a brush. Thus, an illusion similar to a stone is created.
  • After application, remove the resulting film with a napkin or paper towel.
  • Next, sprinkle the surface of the panel with talcum powder, and fill the grooves with wax. We tint the embossed recesses with dark paint.

To achieve the effect "marbled" can be using paint and a regular sponge. You can add antiquity to the panel with special gold foil or color.

A safe bet to make the panel vintage is to paint the indentations with silver paint.

A plaster panel is a kind of art, and it is for this reason that it attracts special interest and curiosity. Wall plaster compositions look like real masterpieces, worthy of admiration for absolutely everyone. The panels harmoniously fit into every interior style, from hi-tech to classic. Vintage panels are considered an interesting and creative option. Compositions in this performance always breathe with a centuries-old history, steeped in traditions and events.
