Fire retardant treatment methods

Surface or deep impregnation:

The fire-bioprotective composition "KSD-A" is produced in the finished form of grades 1 and 2, as well as in the form of a dry "Concentrate".

The finished form of the composition is supplied in a sealed plastic container and must not be diluted or mixed with other compositions.

The "concentrate" of the composition is supplied in polyethylene bags, enclosed in multilayer paper bags and sewn with cord thread. It is used in the form of an aqueous solution:

  • to obtain the composition of brand 1 "Concentrate" is dissolved in the ratio: 1 kg of "Concentrate" per 4 liters of water;
  • to obtain the composition of brand 2 "Concentrate" is dissolved in the ratio: 1 kg of "Concentrate" per 10 liters of water.

The solution is prepared in an apparatus with a stirrer at room temperature or with heating up to 30-35 °C.

Wood treatment by surface impregnation:

  1. Wooden surfaces to be impregnated must be free of dust and dirt. Do not apply formulations to wet, oily, oiled or painted surfaces. In case of need for fire-retardant impregnation wooden surfaces, previously painted with any paintwork materials, the surfaces must be planed to a bare wood.
  2. Application of the compositions is carried out with a brush, roller, spray. Dipping is not recommended. Consumption of the composition of brand 1 - 400 g/m 2 , brand 2 - 330 g/m 2 .
  3. The compositions should be applied evenly, avoiding gaps. Strictly ensure the required consumption rate. Consumption of 330 g/m 2 and 400 g/m 2 is achieved by 2-3-fold processing with intermediate drying for at least 3 hours. The frequency of processing depends on the ability of wood to absorb moisture (wood species, humidity, atmospheric conditions).
  4. Work should be carried out at an air humidity of not more than 80% and a temperature not lower than +5 °C. It is not allowed to work at negative temperatures.
  5. Work in rubber gloves, if the composition gets on the skin, rinse thoroughly with soap and water.
  6. Impregnated wood, structures, products are suitable for use immediately after drying. Control tests for fire-retardant efficiency should be carried out no earlier than 15 days after impregnation. This requirement is due to the need to ensure the completeness of the flow chemical reaction between the wood and the active substance of the composition and thus achieving the maximum degree of fire protection efficiency.
  7. The penetration of the composition into the wood during surface impregnation, as a rule, does not exceed 1 mm. In this regard, impregnated wood is not subject to mechanical processing.
  8. Surface impregnation is the simplest, most affordable, not requiring special technical equipment and economical way of fire and bioprotective treatment of wood.
  9. Subject to the impregnation technology and consumption rates, the composition of "KSD-A" grade 1 provides the I group of fire retardant efficiency, grade 2 - I group I.

Wood processing by deep impregnation in autoclaves:

The dissolution of the concentrate is carried out in an apparatus with a stirrer at room temperature or heated to 30-40 ° C for about 60 minutes. until complete dissolution (according to visual control).

The "concentrate" is dissolved in water in various proportions depending on the impregnation modes.

Wood before impregnation is dried to 10-12% residual moisture.

INSTRUCTIONS

on the use of fire and bioprotective composition "KSD"

for processing wooden structures residential buildings and structures.

1. General Provisions.

The "KSD" composition is an aqueous solution of a composite material, including flame retardant salts and polymeric biocidal components.

A distinctive feature of this composition is its high penetrating ability into the structure of wood, exclusively high stability to washout. The composition does not stain wood, allows the application of any paint and varnish coatings on top of it, and does not pollute the environment. The composition is approved for use in interior conditions (Hygienic certificate of the Moscow City Center SES No. 11-7338 dated 08.11.94).

2. Appointment of the composition of the "KSD".

The composition of "KSD" can be applied in the following cases:

To obtain flame-retardant wood according to GOST 16963‑76 (ST SEV 4686‑84).

To protect wooden structures from decay and impact various kinds biodegraders (shashel, mold, fungus), the appearance of blue, blackening, etc.

3. Fields of application of the "KSD" composition.

3.1. Treatment truss system buildings and structures.

3.2. Processing of floors, floor logs, walls and other wooden surfaces, both in interior and exterior conditions.

3.3. Processing of lumber in case of their long-term storage in the open air, as well as during their long-term transportation by land and sea transport.

4. Terms of work.

The most important condition for effective impregnation is the humidity and temperature of the treated wood, as well as the ambient temperature.

It is unacceptable to process wood at a temperature of the surrounding air or the treated surface below +5 ° FROM.

5. Requirements for processed wood.

5.1. The surface of the wood, subject to fire and bioprotective treatment, must be cleaned of bark, dirt and other contaminants that prevent the free penetration of the composition "KSD" deep into the wood.

5.2. When applying the "KSD" composition on surfaces previously covered with drying oil, varnishes, paints, coatings, impregnation and fire and biological protection DO NOT BE PROVIDED.

It is allowed to use the “KSD” composition on top of other impregnating flame retardant compositions (MS, PP, etc.), but not earlier than 6 months after treatment with these compositions and without changing the consumption rates of the “KSD” composition.

5.3. Processing of "frozen" wood with the composition "KSD" (during winter felling, or during long-term storage at negative temperatures), as well as wood with a moisture content of more than 30% is UNACCEPTABLE.

5.4. Products impregnated with KSD should not be subjected to additional mechanical processing. In the case when it is necessary to do this, it is necessary to re-treat the wood with the KSD composition.

The composition "KSD" can be applied to the surface to be protected in the following ways:

Impregnation bath method;

Autoclave method (impregnation under vacuum);

Method using compressor equipment (pneumatic or airless spraying);

Manual method (brush, roller, manual sprayer).

The highest efficiency of wood protection is achieved at the maximum possible depth of impregnation of the protected surface, which is ensured at an average composition consumption of at least 500 g per 1 m 2 of the surface.

A prerequisite for processing is a one-time impregnation of wood. When applying "KSD" with a brush or spray gun, the required flow rate is ensured by repeated application of the composition by the method "wet on wet". Re-impregnation of wood after drying of the previous layer of "KSD" is not effective.

6.1 IMPREGNATION BATH METHOD.

Wood with a clean surface is loaded into the impregnation tank or bath, providing Free access solution to the entire surface of the wood.

The reservoir or bath is filled with fire-retardant composition "KSD" until the treated wood is completely immersed.

Depending on the temperature regime processing time is:

at +20 °С - 4 hours;

at +40 °С - 3 hours;

at +60 °С - 2 hours.

For processing in an intermediate temperature range, an appropriate time interpolation is performed.

At the end of the impregnation process, the wood is removed from the tank or bath and dried to a moisture content of 20%. The increase in the mass of processed wood must correspond to the above consumption per 1 m 2 of surface.

6.2 AUTOCLAVE METHOD (impregnation under vacuum).

For impregnation by this method, an autoclave (hermetically sealed tank) is required.

The wood placed in the autoclave is completely filled with the KSD composition. After that, to ensure sealing, the hatches are tightly closed and the compression unit is connected to suction.

Impregnation mode:

At a pressure of not more than 0.05 MPa and a temperature of +20 ° C for 2 hours;

At a pressure of not more than 0.05 MPa and a temperature of +40 ° C for 1 hour;

At a pressure of not more than 0.05 MPa and a temperature of +60 ° C for 30-40 minutes.

At the end of the process, the wood is removed from the autoclave and dried to a moisture content of 20%. The increase in the mass of processed wood must correspond to the above consumption per 1 m 2 of surface.

The next batch of wood is processed without changing the mortar. In this case, it is necessary to top up the fire-bioprotective compound "KSD" into the impregnating container until the wood is completely immersed.

6.3 METHOD USING COMPRESSOR EQUIPMENT.

6.3.1. Airless spray.

This method allows processing wood without dismantling various types of structures of buildings and structures, decoration elements, furniture, etc.

The method is based on the outflow and dispersion of the impregnating solution at the outlet of the nozzle of a small-section sprayer, with a high pressure at the inlet, created by a plunger or membrane mechanism, at a low flow rate.

The necessary equipment for this processing method is the Finish-207, Finish-209, Finish-211, Wagner units or the Luch-2 unit in combination with the CO-7 compressor.

The service tank of the "Finish", "Wagner" or "Luch" type installations is filled with the "KSD" fire and bioprotective composition and the wooden surfaces are treated at a liquid pressure at the outlet of the nozzle of not more than 10 MPa (see the operating manual for the installations). During operation, the gun nozzle is placed at a distance of 20-30 cm from the surface to be treated.

If necessary, apply the fire-bioprotective composition "KSD" on the treated surface 2 times (depending on the type of wood, its moisture content, degree of destruction) until saturation, i.e. until the composition ceases to be absorbed into the wood.

Note: work at a liquid pressure at the outlet of the nozzle of more than 10 MPa is not recommended due to the possible destruction of the surface layers of wood, their "collapse".

6.3.2. Pneumatic (air) spray.

It is supposed to treat the surface of wood with a spray gun. This method, as well as according to clause 6.3.1, allows you to carry out work on fire and bioprotective treatment of wood without dismantling buildings, structures, etc.

The method is based on spraying the impregnating composition while flowing through a small cross-section nozzle together with compressed air as a carrier.

Equipment: compressor unit 4-10 atm. type "SO-7" and manual continuous spray gun.

Application technology is similar to item 6.3.1.

Note:at this method impregnation, the loss of the impregnating composition is 20-30% higher than with airless spraying.

6.4 MANUAL METHOD.

Applying the "KSD" composition with a brush, roller or using a manual sprayer is carried out by passing the same area several times until saturation, i.e. until the moment when the KSD ceases to be absorbed into the wood.

Re-treatment with the composition "KSD" after the previous layer has dried is not advisable, because. the resulting polymer film of the 1st layer does not allow free penetration of active low molecular weight components of the "KSD" composition deep into the wood matrix.

7. Safety at work.

7.1. Technological operations must be performed in compliance with the rules of safety, SNiP 111-4-80, GOST 12-3-005-75 "Painting general rules TB", PBVKh 11-74 "Safety rules in the chemical industry".

7.2. All components included in the "KSD" are explosion and fireproof.

7.3. The composition of "KSD" in contact with the skin and mucous membranes does not have an irritating effect. The cumulative properties of the composition are expressed moderately. The most toxic component of the composition is an antiseptic, which has a hazard class 3 if ingested and a hazard class 4 if it comes into contact with the skin.

7.4. Persons associated with the use of the composition "KSD" use respiratory protection (respirators, gauze bandages), goggles, cotton suit, gloves and rubber boots or boots.

7.5. At the end of the work, the "KSD" composition that has got on the open parts of the body must be washed off with water.

7.6. Eating while working in industrial premises is not recommended.

8. TRANSPORT AND STORAGE.

Transportation and storage of the "KSD" composition is carried out according to OST 6‑15‑90‑77. The "KSD" composition does not pose a danger during transportation, therefore it is not classified according to GOST 19433-81.

In case of possible freezing of the composition (at temperatures below minus 5°C), it is necessary to check the integrity of the container before defrosting it.

ATTENTION!

- Re-freezing of the composition is unacceptable.

- Cyclic freezing of the composition is unacceptable (for example, during spring thaws).

Failure to observe the above precautions will result in container rupture.

Before use, heat the frozen composition to a temperature not exceeding +60 ° C and stir thoroughly until the sediment dissolves as completely as possible.

9. MANUFACTURER WARRANTY.

9.1. The manufacturer guarantees the compliance of the "KSD" composition with the requirements specifications No. 2389‑006‑17483468‑94 subject to the rules of use, transportation and storage.

9.2. The warranty period of storage is 24 months from the date of manufacture of the composition.
