Installing a bathroom sink: installation instructions for modern models. How to install a bathroom sink

Do-it-yourself sink installation is technologically quite simple. Some significant nuances will be described later in the relevant sections. Plumbers also charge inexpensively for installing the sink - the work is elementary.

At the same time, a washbasin and a kitchen sink are a responsible business: not only aesthetics and convenience depend on them, but also the general sanitary and hygienic situation in the apartment. Therefore, before taking on the installation or ordering it, you need to properly understand the designs of these plumbing fixtures and choose the right one for yourself. Let's start with general technical features.

Siphon

The simplest siphon is an S-shaped bend of a corrugated outlet hose, rotated 90 degrees in the vertical plane. For the washbasin, in theory, it is quite enough: the used toilet paper, sanitary napkins and scraps from dishes.

However, there is a "but" - when cleaning the sewer with a plunger, the corrugation plays strongly and breaks over time, and when cleaning with a pneumatic plunger (powered by a canister with compressed inert gas) it often breaks immediately. It is impossible to clean the corrugation with a cable at all. Therefore, if the sewage system in the apartment is unimportant and you often have to “punch” it, you need a hard siphon with a revision (a removable cover for inspection and cleaning), but in the kitchen it is absolutely necessary.

Rigid siphons are of two types: a knee with a removable hatch (obsolete) and a bottle siphon. The latter consists of two concentric pipes of larger and smaller diameters. The smaller one is inserted into the larger one with a gap at the bottom. The bottom cover of the bottle siphon is a threaded hatch; branch - on the side.

Cleaning the bottle is simple: put on gloves, substitute the bucket, unscrew the bottom hatch and the whole "byaka" flops into the bucket. You only need to make sure when buying outer tube was with some narrowing upward, otherwise the pollution can get stuck, and you have to pick it up.

The pinnacle of the evolution of siphons and at the same time tulip washbasins (see below) is a decorative chrome-plated siphon with a revision (see figure on the right). Among other things, it is also absolutely hygienic and functional. But the cost is an order of magnitude higher than usual, the sewerage wiring for it is only built into the walls, which is also not cheap, but professional work is needed for installation.

The installation of a siphon with a revision is always carried out before the sink is suspended; corrugated siphon - as it is more convenient in place. In both cases, a transition cuff is required from 32 mm (diameter of the sink outlet) to the available diameter of the sewer distribution pipes, from 40 to 100 mm; you need to look at the place.

Mixer and fittings

The best mixer is with a ball valve and a swing arm. When buying it, you need to make sure that the faceted parts of the threaded fittings of the flexible supply pipes - henk - are located at different levels, otherwise they will not sit on the mixer nozzles during installation. In a mixer with separate taps, this problem does not arise.

Henks are more durable and reliable than metal-plastic ones, but the installation of a mixer with them is possible only in an already suspended sink, which is inconvenient. Plastic henks in a woven fabric cover can be pulled out through the opening under the sink and attached without bending over and in the light, but they sometimes break.

How to properly mount a mixer on a sink or sink -.

Installing the washbasin

The installation of the sink in the bathroom is carried out by hanging it to the wall using standard brackets and self-tapping screws in dowels. Remember that even a complete pedestal, from the bottom of the sink to the floor, is not a supporting piece! Self-tapping screws must enter the body of the wall by at least 70 mm, so we take them at least 100 mm long if there is plaster on the wall under the tiles, and even longer for thicker coatings.

Dowels - propylene. Polyethylene is fragile, metal rusts, PVC cracks from changes in temperature and humidity.

The diameter of the self-tapping screws is the maximum possible, which the brackets allow. Remember that the sink of any washbasin is hanging, and the lever, even with light pressure on its edge, turns out to be powerful. If the diameter of the holes for self-tapping screws is less than 6 mm, then they need to be drilled out, or not at all to take such a shell, especially since such "alternative" products most often turn out to be silumin (very fragile) or plastic, fragile.

Sometimes a sink with a vanity unit is installed in bathrooms (see the top picture). But the bathroom for her needs a spacious one, dirt can accumulate under the curbstone and inside it, and the capacity of a solid-looking dressing table is actually small: a siphon with pipes takes up a lot of space, so such a solution is more a tribute to traditions.

Installation of a sink

Installing a sink in a kitchen is easier in terms of strength as it has a solid worktop support. An exception is a sink with sinks under the countertop, see below, but these are practically not found in everyday life and require highly professional work for installation.

But technologically, the kitchen sink is more difficult, since you have to work inside kitchen furniture bent over in the dark and need to do carpentry. Accordingly, hired foremen for such work are quite expensive. Therefore, if you are accustomed to tinkering, it makes sense to install the sink in the kitchen yourself. Installation features different types sinks.

Sealing

All modern plumbing is equipped with standard gaskets. When working with them, the following rules should be observed:

  • All works on sealing should be performed only on completely dry fittings. Can be dried with a household hairdryer if necessary.
  • If possible, do not grasp the mating surfaces with your hands. Captured - degrease by rinsing in water with household detergent for dishes.
  • Paronite (red or yellow, hard) gaskets should be placed between the plastic parts and the metal supply pipe.
  • Plastic pipes of standard fittings are given with a margin, they need to be cut to size, but in the absence of a lot of experience - only with a pipe cutter for plastic. The slightest distortion of even the smoothest cut - and the joint will flow, even if you crack.
  • Lubricate rubber gaskets before installation silicone sealant.

The latter requires clarification. Separately, rubber and silicone last for several years, but together they turn out to be surprisingly durable. As it turned out, the matter is in the difference in their coefficients of thermal expansion: the materials all the time seem to knead each other, preventing them from solidifying tightly and cracking. If the installation of plumbing was carried out taking into account the above, you can not think about leaks for many years.

Sink installation height

Sink installation height none regulatory documents not strictly regulated. SNiP give recommendations at 80-85 cm, but this is based on average growth data. On Scandinavian construction sites, 85-90 cm is recommended, and in Trondheim, the homeland of the Viking giants, even 90-95 cm. In Ecuador and Colombia, where most of the population is short Indians and mestizo, they recommend, on the contrary, 75-80 cm.

So do what is more convenient - in a small family you can hang lower; in the heroic - higher. True, if you plan to install a washbasin with a pedestal, you will have to be tied to its height.

Varieties of shells and their features

Everyone is familiar with the usual wall-hung sink, so let's move on to the more modern varieties.

Tulip

Sinks with semi-pedestal

The tulip washbasin first appeared in railway carriages and exists there in its original form to this day. His distinctive feature not a pedestal at all, but a narrow deep shell. It had to be deepened to reduce splashing.

In small bathrooms of apartments built post-war years such a design fit, and for aesthetics (the siphon was in sight) the tulip sink was equipped with a pedestal. Appearing en masse in bombed England and Germany, the innovation spread widely around the world, and soon all the shells on the pedestal began to be called tulips, although they already looked like a tulip no more than a dahlia or an odontoglossum orchid.

Long-term and extensive practice has shown that the tulip, in general, did not justify itself, primarily from a sanitary and hygienic point of view. The cavity in the pedestal is a favorite habitat for small house animals, and even a hardened sanitary doctor's face can stretch out from smears from the floor along the perimeter of the pedestal under a microscope.

Half-tulip

Modern sanitation and hygiene is based on the assumption that the floor in the bathroom and toilet should be as free and accessible for cleaning as possible. Any, even the smallest nook becomes a source of infection, therefore tulip shells in recent times displaced by shells with a half-pedestal - half-tulips (see Fig.), no less aesthetic, but not cluttering the floor.

Half-tulips have one drawback: to clean the siphon, you have to remove either the entire sink (in the figure below), or its rather heavy and fragile part in weight, risking dropping and breaking it (in the figure - above). But the siphon of the washbasin is very rarely clogged, so this drawback is very relative. It is completely eliminated in sinks with a decorative semi-pedestal siphon, which are mentioned above.

Sink over the "washing machine"

Washbasin over washing machine(see fig. on the right) - the innovation is relatively recent and invented, I must say, great. Everything ingenious is simple - for centuries no one guessed that the lattice of the washbasin sink could be placed behind its bowl or in its far corner.

For the inhabitants small apartments such a solution is just a godsend. Unfortunately, the price of the popular product is still disproportionately high. But you can make a plastic sink yourself, and choose a mixer with a siphon separately.

An approximate installation diagram of such a sink is shown in the following figure. A siphon for such a sink needs a bottle siphon, with an additional branch pipe for connecting the outflow of the washing machine.

Double sink

A double, or two-bowl sink appeared at the beginning as an attribute of elite apartments with a spacious bathroom. But manufacturers soon realized that a double washbasin, to paraphrase Ostap Bender, is not a luxury, but a means of hygiene: it is most needed in a working family living on a wage. Here the price of minutes of the morning toilet on a working day is higher than some hustle and bustle in the bathroom.

Double washbasin

Currently, double washbasins are produced with a total width of up to 80 cm, which makes it possible to install them in standard bathrooms. Ease of use (albeit rather relative) is achieved by turning the horizontal axes of the spouts by 45 degrees in different sides, see fig. The water inlet and outlet from the siphons are common to both bowls, so the installation of such a sink does not present any additional difficulties.

Heated sink

Recently, washbasins with heated water have been actively advertised. Although the supply hot water they really do not need, such a device is nothing more than the fruit of the tricks of marketers. Instantaneous electric heating requires an exorbitant amount of electricity, expensive and complicated alteration of the wiring for a higher current, and the same for the shower. It's easier to find or clear a nook in the utility block and.

Varieties of sinks

Main types kitchen sinks are shown in the figure. The most common familiar sink for everyone; in the picture - on the left. It completely replaces the countertop, the methods and features of its installation are well known and have been described many times.

The next view, in the figure in the center, is a sink embedded in the cutting table. Its advantage over the invoice is only aesthetic, the installation is rather complicated, and the tabletop must be made of water and chemically resistant material. The inset sink can be without a wing, as in the picture, or with a wet wing - half overhead.

On the packaging of the inset sink, a template for cutting the opening for it must be printed. Check it upon purchase and if it is not available, do not take it: it is almost impossible to remove the template on your own, you need a height gauge with a parallelogram copier or a laser spatial scanner.

  1. Before you outline the template cut out of the package, inspect and measure the countertop from the inside out. Cutting its frame and transverse support bars is undesirable;
  2. before cutting (with a jigsaw), cover the delineated opening around the perimeter from the outside with masking (paper) tape. A previously used jigsaw shoe can stain or scratch the decorative finish;
  3. Guide the cut without leaning too heavily on the tool. From strong pressure, a thin flexible saw blade can bend in a vertical plane, go sideways, and it will take a long time to refine the cut with a scherhebel or a chisel for the shell to snap into place;
  4. seal with silicone not only the cut, but also the countertop by 3-5 mm around the perimeter, so that an infection does not spread there from flowing under the rim of the sink;
  5. Any silicone drips that emerged during the installation of the sink should be immediately removed with a cloth soaked in vinegar.

Mortise sinks are also installed under the countertop (in the upper picture on the right); hold such a sink with overhead brackets and silicone. The table top should be made of natural stone or modified wood of valuable and resistant species: teak, ebony, red quebracho.

Undercounter sink - accessory elite cuisine... They are performed with two or three cups, for installation they require high skill, they have no obvious advantages over others, so we will limit ourselves to mentioning what is in the world and such. Those who wish can see the installation technology in the video below.

One of the final stages of bathroom renovation is the installation of the sink. When the room is completely ready for its installation, the question arises as to who will carry out this work.

Someone decides to use the services of qualified craftsmen, while someone wants to keep family budget and install the sink yourself. But what if the owner does not have necessary experience and skills? In this case, the recommendations set out in our article will help to complete the work.

What you need to pay attention to right away

The modern market offers us several varieties of similar products, which differ from each other in appearance. The bowl can be installed on a leg, pedestal, cabinet, or mounted on top of a suspended tabletop.

You can often find designs with two sinks, made in the form of a deep plate. Depending on the selected variety, they will differ and possible ways sink fixing. According to this criterion, all products can be divided into several groups:

  • on hanging shelves;
  • varieties mounted on brackets;
  • sinks with a curbstone;
  • products on a pedestal.

When purchasing this or that option, pay attention to it design features... Many kits already have special fasteners, which immediately indicates the method of fixing the faience. The size of the product itself is also important. It must strictly correspond to the free space in the bathroom, otherwise the installation of the sink will be complicated.

What tools and materials can be useful in the process of work?

The installation of the washbasin requires certain hand tools and materials. This list includes:

  1. Adjustable wrench (or a set of conventional wrenches).
  2. Several dowels or a pair of brackets (a sink with a cabinet in the bathroom can be installed without the use of fasteners).
  3. Screwdriver.
  4. Plumbing winding.
  5. Self-tapping screws.
  6. Pencil or marker.
  7. Screwdriver (for mounting a washbasin with a cabinet).
  8. Silicone sealant.
  9. Drill or hammer drill.

When purchasing a sink, pay attention to its complete set. Some items are sold with basic mixers, but in most cases you have to buy them separately. When choosing a faucet, you need to make sure that it is compatible with the design of the chosen washbasin: it corresponds to the diameter of the hole and fits in size. Please also note that some mixers are sold without connecting pipes. In such cases, purchase them separately. When all necessary materials ready, you can start work.

Where to begin?

If at the place of work there is old washbasin, then the installation of the sink in the bathroom begins with the elimination of the failed product. The first step is to dismantle the mixer. To do this job, you need to shut off the water. First, the nuts are unscrewed with which the product was attached to the washbasin. Then the cold and hot water pipes are disconnected, after which the tap can be freely removed.

Next, the siphon is dismantled. First, unscrew the metal grate (located in the hole in the old sink) and then unscrew the plastic nut under the sink. The siphon should be handled very carefully as it contains water. If this element will not be operated with a new sink, then it is disconnected from the sewer. It is better to plug the remaining hole in the pipe with something, otherwise an unpleasant odor may appear in the room.

The washbasin can now be removed from the mountings and the installation of the new washbasin can be started.

Height at what level should the washbasin be located?

Before the earthenware product is fixed at the base, it is necessary to determine the level of its fixation. Here, again, it all depends on the design of the washbasin and on the free space in the room. For example, products of the "Tulip" type have a standard leg, so it is simply not possible to place the bowl higher or lower.

In addition, the growth of the owners of the premises matters. If small children or short people live in the apartment, then for their convenience, the sink can be placed slightly lower than usual. According to generally accepted standards, the installation height of the sink should be about 80 centimeters from the floor.

The technology of installing the bowl on the brackets

Brackets are considered the safest and most popular way to fix the bowl to the wall. This mount is used to mount a wall-hung sink or varieties on decorative legs.

The installation of the bowl on the brackets is carried out in several stages:

  1. The level of installation of the ceramic product is marked on the wall. At a certain height, two marks are made (these will be the most high points washbasin).
  2. From the upper marks, they recede downward at a distance equal to the height of the back wall of the shell itself. This level is also marked. In the space between the top and bottom points, the brackets will be located.
  3. Fasteners are attached to the wall. The place of their fixation is marked with a pencil.
  4. Using a punch, holes of the required diameter are drilled at the indicated points. Dowels are installed in them, brackets are attached to the wall.

A washbasin bowl is put on the resulting base. If the design of the brackets implies the presence of fastening bolts, then the sink is additionally attracted by these bolts to the base.

If the set includes a decorative leg, it is placed under the installed bowl. This is done after connecting the siphon and mixer.

Mounting the bowl on the pedestal

Pedestal mounting is a fairly popular mounting method. Coasters of a wide variety of types and shapes can be used here. And the cup itself may have different design... A product made of wood, ceramics and drywall can be used as a curbstone.

If type, then in the base of the stand, you must first cut a hole of the appropriate shape and size. To do this, place the bowl on the tabletop, take the necessary measurements and make marks. A hole is cut out at the designated points. This work is done with a jigsaw. Next, the bowl itself is installed. The junction of ceramics and countertops can be coated with a sealant. These varieties are usually not wall-mounted, but can be supplied with fixing bolts for fixing to the pedestal. In this case, the nuts just need to be tightened well.

The overhead bowls are simply placed on top of the finished worktop. In order to give the structure good stability, the curbstone can be additionally fixed against the wall (using self-tapping screws).

Installation of a washbasin with a wall-hung vanity unit

Washbasins with a hanging countertop are especially popular today. For this reason, the question of installing them is very relevant. It should be noted right away that the use of such varieties is possible only when everything is hidden in boxes or walls. Only small sections of pipes should protrude outward, which do not interfere with the tight fit of the pedestal to the base.

Sink assembly of this type is carried out as follows:

  1. Since most often the cabinet is sold disassembled, then first of all it must be assembled. This work is carried out in strict accordance with the diagram or instructions supplied by the manufacturer. To carry out these works, a set of self-tapping screws and a screwdriver are used.
  2. If the back wall of the cabinet is completely open, then you can start fixing it on the wall. V closed options there are usually only a few openings for pipe connections. In these cases back wall often it is necessary to trim or increase the size of the base slots so that the water and sewer pipes do not rest against the curbstone.
  3. Next, proceed to fixing the tabletop. To do this, mark the installation height of the sink and the location of the dowels on the wall. Most often you need to make 4 pieces.
  4. Holes are drilled at the designated points, dowels are driven in.
  5. The curbstone rises to the desired height and is fixed against the wall with self-tapping screws.

If the bowl is already fixed on the base, then you can start connecting the plumbing. The overhead sink is installed over the cabinet and bolted to the wall or to the base itself. This completes the installation of the sink with the cabinet in the bathroom.

Installation of corner washbasins

Very often, the area of the bathroom does not allow the installation of a full-fledged washbasin. In these cases, the owners purchase angular varieties of sinks. Their installation does not cause any particular difficulties and is identical to the previously described processes.

If the bowl is to be placed on a pedestal, then the base itself is pre-installed in the selected corner. It is pressed tightly against the wall and fixed with several self-tapping screws. A washbasin is mounted on top of the cabinet. It can just stand on the tabletop, or it can be fixed to it with bolts.

Suspended varieties are installed on brackets and self-tapping screws. To do this, you need to make marks on the wall, drill holes for plastic dowels, fix the product itself. Then connect the siphon and mixer.

Mixer installation

Getting to the sink is a simple process. To carry it out, you just need to have a set of hoses, rubber bands and spanners.

First, gaskets are put on the hoses, after which they are screwed to the body of the mixer itself (with inside). Put on the base of the tap After that, the product is installed in a special hole in the bowl, and the tubes are passed under the sink.

On the underside, a gasket and a pressure pin are connected to the tap. The mixer is fixed in place by means of a bolt and nut. Hoses connect to water pipes and screwed with nuts.

During the installation of the mixer, it is very important not to overtighten the connecting elements. Tighten everything with your hands, and with a wrench only slightly tighten the hose connections. To avoid water leakage, it is better to glue the threaded connections with a special tape.

Siphon connection

The siphon connection technology is universal for all types of washbasins and does not depend on the installation method of the sink.

This process looks like this:

  1. A siphon "neck" is installed in the drain hole of the bowl. On the outside there is a grill with a rubber gasket, which is tightly attracted to the hole using a plastic nut (it is screwed under the washbasin).
  2. A lock nut with a wedge-shaped ring is put on the pipe from the grate. The siphon glass is connected to the pipe.
  3. Next, the glass is pressed against the locking ring, after which a nut is screwed onto it.
  4. V sewer hole a sealing rubber is inserted, the hole diameter in which is slightly smaller than the siphon pipe.
  5. The plastic corrugated tube fits snugly into the elastic. For reliability, the place of their docking can be smeared with silicone sealant. This will prevent water leakage and unpleasant air infiltration into the room.

To check the tightness of the drain, water is drawn into the siphon. If there is a leak, the sealing nuts must be tightened more.

Summing up

Despite the fact that the range of washbasins is very extensive today, the installation technology of all varieties is very similar. All works use the same fasteners and tools. Therefore, if the owners living quarters it will be possible to independently carry out the installation of the sink, then its subsequent replacement or repair will no longer cause any difficulties. We hope our article will help you cope with this task and reduce the cost of paying for the services of specialists.

Preparing tools and dismantling the old bathroom sink

Do-it-yourself installation of a new sink in the bathroom requires the following tools:

  1. A hammer drill or hammer drill.
  2. Special drill bit for concrete.
  3. Screwdriver or screwdriver set.
  4. A set of wrenches.
  5. Gas key.
  6. Dowel screws.
  7. Silicone sealant.
  8. Windings.

Before you start installing a new sink in the bathroom with your own hands or any other work related to plumbing, you must definitely shut off the water.

First of all, unscrew the nut holding the mixer and disconnect the rigid or flexible eyeliner... It is best to let the disconnected pipes go into a bucket, because drains may remain in them. Then you can remove the mixer. Next, you need to disconnect the siphon that connects the sink in the bathroom to the sewer. Unscrew the lower nuts carefully and remove the siphon.

If you want to replace old components, then the siphon must be disconnected from the drain, and the remaining hole must be plugged with a rag or plug so that they do not get into the room. unpleasant odors... After that, the sink should be removed from the mountings and discarded (at your discretion).

Do-it-yourself installation of a new sink in the bathroom: what should be considered?

Installing a new sink in the bathroom with your own hands requires taking into account many characteristics, including the size and type of product.

By design and type of installation, the following bathroom washbasins are distinguished:

  • sink on a shelf or cabinet;
  • shell tulip;
  • washbasin on brackets;
  • washbasin on a pedestal.

Do-it-yourself installation of each type of bathroom sink has its own characteristics. If you are not sure that you can do the installation correctly with your own hands, it is better to immediately contact the professionals.

Sink-tulip and washbasin on brackets: installation procedure

Installing a tulip sink for a bathroom with your own hands does not have any fundamental differences from installing other types of products. The only feature of this type is the installation of a leg on which the bowl is placed. The installation height of the washbasin must be matched to the height of the lower leg. Together with the washbasin, the mixer is also carried out. The installation of these devices may require the use of special tools.

Another feature of this type is that the drain will be located inside the stem. Therefore, all parts must be carefully secured and insulated so that in the future you do not have to dismantle the product several times and constantly be afraid of leaks.

Do-it-yourself installation of a sink on brackets is not a very difficult event. Installation of such a product is carried out after the completion of all finishing works... First you need to do correct markup and only after that proceed with the installation of the mounts. First, you need to draw a horizontal line at the required height (usually 85 cm from the floor). After that, stepping back a distance equal to the thickness of the washbasin from the side adjacent to the wall, you should draw a second line, which will become the basis for the device of the brackets.

Measure the width of the sink, attach the brackets to the wall and mark for future holes. At these points it is necessary to drill holes and install dowels. Attachments are screwed onto the dowels, after which a sink is installed on them. It should not move or wobble. Only after the bowl is stable and tight against the wall, you can drain. An alternative this method is the installation of a washbasin with your own hands on hanging shelf or curbstone.

Installing a washbasin on a vanity unit and a pedestal

Bottle siphon connection diagram.

If carried out on a pedestal, then the table top becomes at the same time a holder for the bowl. The washbasin is either installed on top or completely integrated into the opening. In both cases, the drain is hidden under a shelf or in a cabinet. Such a sink is installed in accordance with the above technology, but the advantage is that for this method created many models of products custom design... Such models can have standard and non-ordinary forms. Designer sinks can be made of glass, have a spherical or cubic shape, and you can decorate such a product with your own hands, using smalt, stones and whatever your imagination suggests.

If the installation of the sink is carried out on a pedestal, then everything depends on the type of the bowl itself. Sometimes the washbasin is mounted on brackets, and the pedestal has a purely decorative function. In other cases, the bowl of the shell rests on a pedestal and seems to stand on it. In this case, the sink can be located at a fairly large distance from the wall. If the structure will be adjacent to the wall, then you must first mount it in the right place and mark the places for mounting the bowl. In this embodiment, fastening with brackets is used, the technology of which has been described above.

It is imperative to attach rubber washers to the screws. It is not necessary to tighten them very tightly - it is enough that the sink simply does not budge. Strong force can lead to cracks in the bowl. When the washbasin is installed on a semi-pedestal, the outlet socket should be positioned 50 cm from the floor. The bowl is fixed to the wall and the half-pedestal is installed in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations.

The furnishings in the bathroom should be stylish, combined with the overall interior of the room. Each element should provide convenience, comfort, this applies to the washbasin. This element is the main one, so you need to be especially careful about its arrangement. Installing a sink with a vanity unit in the bathroom will not take too much time, and this element looks very attractive. In addition, now there is a huge variety of pedestals in color, size, style, which will fit perfectly into the design of the room and fit any room size.

A washbasin with a vanity unit is selected, now you need to choose a suitable place in the bathroom for its installation. Be sure to consider the size, the product must fit exactly into its place. It would be nice to put it near the bathtub, this will ensure ease of use.

It is better to choose the area for the installation of pedestals before work begins on the wiring of communications and pipes.

  • measurements of the bathroom room are taken, divided into sections;
  • think over where the location of the bathroom, shower, sink should be;
  • be sure to consider the presence of shelves, drawers... They can become an obstacle to the supply of pipes and fittings for connecting water to the mixer. It is better to foresee this option earlier, to shift the shelves so that they do not interfere with plumbing fixtures. You may need to trim it a little, but do it carefully, do not damage the structure of the furniture, do not spoil it appearance;
  • in cases where the sewage system comes out of flooring, and in this area it is planned to install a curbstone, then in this case everything is simple. In order for the product to fit into the place, not to disturb the sewer elements, its bottom must be cut. Necessarily after trimming the bottom, the edges are processed with a protective base.

How the installation works

The washbasin for the curbstones has been selected, the place has been prepared, and we proceed to the installation itself. Usually, this piece of furniture is sold together with the necessary fasteners, connecting elements, and sometimes they come with the right tools for assembly, installation. There is a diagram or installation instructions available. But the scheme or instructions are unlikely to have to be used, usually the design is so simple that you can install it yourself. And if you do not need to trim, file for plumbing, communications, then this will take a maximum of 1-2 hours.

Pay attention to the quality of the fittings

Mixer installation rules

Before you start installing the pedestals, you should install a mixer and a siphon:

  • the mixer should be accompanied by an instruction with a diagram of the installation, with which this process will be much easier. The kit should include - several pins, two washers (made of rubber and a moon-shaped one), a round gasket for the lower part;
  • two hoses must be screwed to the mixer, designed for hot and cold water... The choice of hoses should be approached especially carefully, rubber hoses are of low strength and often break and leak. The best option there will be products made of metal-plastic material. Do not tighten too much, otherwise the gaskets will be damaged and the connection will leak;

Hot and cold water connection

  • studs are fixed in small holes at the bottom of the mixer;
  • install the gasket and insert the mixer into the hole in the sink. And on the lower side, you need to put a moon washer on the studs, a rubber washer is placed on top of it;
  • washers are secured with nuts. The nuts are installed on studs and tightened well so that the faucet stands firmly on the sink. Some mixers are secured with a large nut on the underside for greater reliability;
  • after that, we proceed to install the siphon. First of all, we check all the details of the siphon, perhaps they have burrs. If present, they should be carefully cut off. Otherwise, after installation, gaps are formed at the joints, through which unpleasant odors will pass in the future;

Connecting the siphon to the drain hole

  • put a cover with holes on the drain hole, insert a long screw into the center;
  • a receiving-type branch pipe with a seal made of rubber material is placed under the drain hole;
  • fasten the cover plate and the nipple with a screw. We tighten the screw as much as possible so that the pipe fits snugly enough to the sink;
  • the remaining part is collected after assembling the pedestals, installing the sink. A tightening nut with a tapered gasket should be put on the branch pipe. We twist upper part, we fix the cover from the siphon.

It is not difficult to install a sink with a cabinet in the bathroom on your own, if you listen to some recommendations:

  • first of all, we start assembling the pedestals. Usually they should be accompanied by instructions to make the work easier, but it is unlikely to come in handy. The process is fairly straightforward. The main thing is to make sure that the screws, fasteners are firmly fixed. After installing the bedside table under the sink, this will be difficult to accomplish;

Washbasin cabinet assembly diagram

  • as the curbstone will be assembled, we proceed to the arrangement of the sink. In its appearance and functions, it is no different from those that are sold separately, just the sink is made to fit the size of the bedside table and is used to complete it;
  • we connect the siphon to the drain;

The siphon is installed by screwing it to the drain hole of the washbasin

  • we put the sink with the mixer already installed on it on the cabinet. Usually, metal corners are used to fasten these elements;
  • we move the washbasin and the cabinet closer to the place where these elements are planned to be installed;

A sink with a siphon and a mixer is placed on a cabinet and pushed against the wall

  • on the surface of the wall, points for bolts should already be marked, on which the washbasin should then be fixed. The markup is done independently. For greater accuracy, it is better to bring the sink to the wall and measure the points precisely. Using a roulette wheel will still not be able to achieve the required accuracy;

Marking on the wall for the future curbstone

  • we move the washbasin with the curbstone back and drill at the marked points;
  • after the holes are made, the bolts that come with the product should be inserted into them. Be sure to buy a product, check the availability of these elements, sometimes sellers simply forget to put them in. And so that you don't have to buy them separately, see their availability;
  • now you need to install the sink and the cabinet in place, screw everything with bolts;
  • we check how the sink and the cabinet are. If everything is stable, does not stagger, the product stands tightly to the wall surface, then everything is done correctly;

The process of installing the vanity unit under the sink

  • at the end we connect the sewer. The mixer hoses must be connected to pipes with cold and hot water... The hoses are connected with a union nut and a rubber base gasket;
  • then we seal the holes, connections. Sealing must be done without fail, this will help to avoid unexpected leaks;
  • at the end, the siphon is connected to sewer pipe... In order to seal all kinds of holes, you need to use a special rubber gasket or a corrugated cuff;

Installation of a sink on a cabinet - the final stage of work

  • it is important, before you start using the washbasin, it is better to check it for leaks, if they are not there, then you can safely start using it.

What to do if there are no mounting holes on the cabinet

Occasionally, the products may not have holes for fixing to the wall. Basically, this problem is often found in Turkish-made pedestals. Some consumers believe that it is quite difficult to fix this product to the bathroom wall and try not to purchase structures.

But what to do when the product has already been purchased? Many people think that they can refuse and return to the seller. Yes, of course, this can be done, but not always. The product may not be accepted; many reasons will be found for this. And if it is damaged and has defects, then it will definitely not be accepted back. If, of course, you want to waste time and nerves, then you can try. As a result, it may be that they will make a replacement for a pedestal with holes. And if it doesn't work, then you can try to put the structure without holes.

It can be delivered in a simple way:

  • instead of bolts, ordinary silicone is used as a fastener;
  • due to the fact that the structure rests on the curbstone, it will firmly adhere to the silicone mixture;
  • it is important that the wall surface is strong, and its coating is made of high-quality tiles;
  • in this case, it is not necessary to drill the surface of the walls, leaving them strong and in good condition. And the appearance of the design will remain in perfect condition.

Sink fastening to silicone

Installing the cabinet with silicone is suitable for those who do not want to spoil their bathroom wall covering, especially if it has low strength. In addition, this installation method is much faster than bolting and drilling.

Installing a washbasin with a vanity unit for a bathroom is a simple process that does not require much work and knowledge. Everything can be done independently without the help of professionals. The main thing is to choose a suitable design and correctly calculate the place for its installation. With this approach, you can get a comfortable, stylish, functional room.

Even a novice craftsman with a simple set of special tools will be able to figure out how to install a sink in the bathroom. A purposeful person should not have real difficulties in performing such an operation.

Types of sink attachment - getting to know the options

Manufacturers now produce a wide variety of washbasin types. They differ from each other not only in their external appearance, but also by the method of fastening. From this point of view, shells can be:

  1. With a pedestal. They are fixed on brackets or on other fasteners. The pedestal of such shells masks the elements sewerage system and . You can choose the desired mounting height for the washbasin yourself.
  2. Overhead. These sinks are always placed on the countertop. It has a relatively small rise above the plane. When installing such plumbing equipment on the countertop, it is necessary to provide a place for fixing the mixer, since, as a rule, there are no holes for it in overhead sinks.
  3. Mortise. Countertop washbasins. At the same time, they are installed above the surface with a 2–3 cm projection. The equipment is fixed by means of special fasteners.
  4. Wall mountable. Such sinks with self-tapping screws or are fixed on the wall of the sanitary facility.
  5. Furniture. Equipment that comes with a curbstone or a special stand with certain geometric parameters.

Bathroom sink

Do-it-yourself installation of different types of washbasins is done in approximately the same way. But in each case, there are also significant nuances. They should be studied if you want the washbasin to be placed in the bathroom once and for centuries.

Getting ready for the installation of new equipment - what needs to be done?

First, you need to stock up on all the tools, without which the installation of new plumbing equipment cannot be performed. You will need - drill bits for concrete, hammer drill or a hammer drill, a silicone-based sealant, an adjustable wrench, a set of screwdrivers or a screwdriver, dowel screws, wrenches, self-tapping screws.

Dismantling the old sink

Now proceed to dismantle the old sink. With your own hands, a similar procedure is performed as follows:

  1. Shut off the water supply to the house (apartment).
  2. Unscrew the fasteners that secure the mixer.
  3. Disconnect the water pipe.
  4. Take off the mixer.
  5. Unscrew the nuts at the bottom of the old sink.
  6. Drain the remaining water from the siphon. Then you dismantle it.
  7. Disconnect the siphon from the pipe (if you change it to a new device).
  8. Take off the sink itself.

Detaching a flexible or rigid pipe from the mixer, lower its end into any container. A lot of water can remain in the liner. It will flood your bathroom if you do not take this precaution. Also, after disconnecting the siphon, we recommend that you plug drain pipe stopper suitable size or with an ordinary rag. Then unpleasant odors will not penetrate into the bathroom. You need to remove the plug or plug immediately before installing a new siphon.

We install the sink on the brackets with our own hands

A sink with a pedestal (a tulip loved by many domestic consumers) is mounted taking into account the peculiarities of its design. You need to correctly install the equipment foot, mixer and siphon. It should be borne in mind that the water drain will be inside the pedestal. This means that all the elements of the sink will have to be insulated and fixed in a very high quality. This is the only way to protect yourself from leaks and the need for laborious dismantling of the washbasin to eliminate them.

Self-assembly of the sink

Tulips are usually mounted on brackets. The procedure for doing work with your own hands is as follows: first, make markings on the wall, draw a horizontal line 85–90 cm from the floor base, then measure the thickness of the sink from the side that adjoins the wall surface. Now step back down from the first line at a distance equal to the measured thickness, and put the second mark. This line will just show where the brackets should be mounted.

Then measure the width of the washbasin. Mark it with marks on the line for the location of the brackets. Drill holes at the marked points. Place the dowels in the "holes" made, screw the brackets to them, install the bowl on the fasteners. It is important here to achieve the maximum tightness of the washbasin to the wall surface. The sink must be truly stable - no wobbling or movement is allowed.

At the end, you connect the mixing device with your own hands, and then the drain. All existing joints are compulsorily processed with a sealant. It is allowed to install the bowl directly on the leg. In this case, the tulip must be located at some distance from the wall. This do-it-yourself installation method is rarely performed. It does not provide the required quality of the sink attachment if the work is performed by an inexperienced home craftsman.

Note. The method of installing a tulip on brackets is also suitable for mounting hanging bowls. In such cases, the mixer is placed either on the sink itself or on the wall above it.

Overhead and mortise bowls - a minimum of hassle

These sinks are mounted on different kinds countertops and bathroom furniture. They are easy to install on special wood furniture, fiberglass products, brickwork, marble surfaces and structures made of artificial stone... Almost all overhead bowls are made in a shape that guarantees them reliable installation on a certain solid basis.

Example of an overhead bowl

It is very rare that you have to do the required diameter openings in the countertop with your own hands. Usually it initially has a hole for mounting the bowl. If not, you will need to cut it yourself. For these purposes, it is best to use an electric jigsaw. If the installation of sinks of the types described is carried out on a surface made of artificial stone or fiberglass, it is not necessary to process their joints with moisture protection agents or sealant.

And here wooden furniture and natural substrates will be correctly additionally waterproofed ... With this treatment, they will last much longer, and without accidents and leaks. After all these preparations, you just have to put the sink in the made (originally available) opening, and then carry out the work on the installation of the siphon, pipes, mixer. They are carried out in the same way as described above (for sinks with a pedestal).

Sink with a vanity unit - installation details

With your own hands, it is not difficult to cope with such a washbasin, which comes complete with a cabinet. You need to immediately (before installing the sink on the base) connect corrugated pipe with a siphon and flexible hoses for water supply in the cabinet. If you try to perform such operations after installing the bowl, you will encounter big amount problems. They are due to the limited space inside the cabinet. It is almost impossible to carry out work on connecting system elements in such cramped conditions.

The second caveat - in some cases, the holes for the siphon pipe and hose outlet available in the cabinet are not suitable for your specific installation conditions. The problem is solved by cutting out new openings. Use a circular saw or an electric drill for this. Next, you need to correctly set the curbstone - strictly horizontally. The procedure is elementary. There are leveling feet on the cabinet. You need to place a regular building level... And then gently twist the legs.

Sink with cabinet

After that, place the bowl in a horizontally aligned cabinet and proceed with fixing the sink to the wall surface. This can be done in two ways: using a sealant (silicone), by means of anchor screws. Pros advise choosing the first option. The fasteners do not need to be made ultra-reliable, since the washbasin stands firmly on the cabinet. You just need to fill the space between the wall and the bowl with sealant and wait about 60 minutes for it to dry.

Installing anchor screws will significantly increase the labor costs for fixing the washbasin. And the result from such complex work will be the same as when using a sealant. The last step of the installation measures is to connect the siphon to the sewer pipe, and to the mixer water supply. This completes all the work.
