Armchair: designs, drawings, patterns, how to make - home and to the country. Do-it-yourself rocking chair: materials and drawings with dimensions Do-it-yourself rocking chair from a profile pipe

A pleasant vacation depends not only on the company, but also on the environment with which it is created. One of the popular pieces of furniture that allows you to relax is a swinging rocking chair. This furniture is very common as it is different original design and practicality. Today on the market you can buy models for almost every taste, picking them up for a specific design.

Basic concepts

Rocking chairs are special designs that can change their position. They swing along the same line. There are several types of such mechanisms, among which pendulum systems (gliders) have gained particular popularity. A feature of such a rocking chair is that it moves with the help of a special mechanism. It is based on several bearings that allow the seat to swing. At the same time, the base of the chair remains motionless, which is very convenient in small rooms. The swing angle depends on the length of the pendants that form the frame of the product.

System Benefits

Pendulum rocking chairs appeared a long time ago, but they have become popular only now. They have several significant advantages over other types of structures:

  1. Security. This characteristic is one of the most important. The design of the pendulum mechanism eliminates the overturning of the product during movement. So you can protect not only yourself, but also those around you.
  2. Practicality. The base of the chair does not move, which prevents the runners from damaging the flooring.
  3. Noiselessness. The pendulum mechanisms do not make practically any sounds during movement, which allows them to be used even in the bedroom.
  4. Ergonomics. The structure can be made from various materials which adapt perfectly to different interiors. It should be noted that the rocking chair can be used in the same way as a full-fledged chair.

Pendulum-type rocking chairs are very often used by mothers. Such furniture allows you to quickly rock the child, while spending a minimum of effort. Today there is a whole direction of rocking chairs for mothers. Such products are distinguished by a unique shape of the back and convenience. This allows you to reduce the load on the body while holding the child in your arms.

materials

Gliders are pretty simple designs which you can make by hand. When starting to manufacture, you should familiarize yourself with possible options versions:

  1. Wooden armchairs. They are made from boards and bars, connected with special fasteners.
  2. Metal constructions. Gliders of this type are quite common, as they are durable and original. The metal is very ductile, which allows you to create unique frames that fit under various styles interior.
  3. Wicker chairs. The main material used here is a vine or artificial rattan. It should be noted that the pendulum mechanism itself is made of a more durable material (wood or metal). Chairs of this type are very beautiful and durable.

It should be noted that all the described materials can be combined with each other. This allows you to get beautiful and durable designs.

You can make a rocking chair using ready-made drawings that are easy to find on the Internet. Sometimes schemas should be used metal structures. For a pendulum design, you will need the following:

  1. Board size 51x152mm and 51x102mm. For such purposes, you can use pine array.
  2. Hinges - 4 things.
  3. Special screws for pocket holes.
  4. Paints and varnishes. This includes everything from a primer to a protective varnish.
  5. Glue.
  6. Instruments. To work with wood, you will need a circular saw, a drill with a set of drill bits, sandpaper, a grinder and much more.

Algorithm

The process of creating a rocking chair consists of the following sequential operations:

  1. First, the pendulum is assembled. It consists of two main parts, which are connected by hinges. It is formed from wooden bars, which must be cut according to the selected drawing. For connection, grooves and glue are used. Proceed to a full assembly should be only after the surfaces to be glued dry.
  2. The next step is seat manufacturing. The shape of the back can be different, but many argue that it is better to choose the classics. First of all, a frame is created, which should repeat the shape of the back. They make it from bars, which are interconnected by several transverse supports.

Many of us are familiar with such a piece of furniture as a rocking chair, which can be found in many country houses. For most, it is one of the favorite vacation spots, but not everyone knows that everyone can make such a chair. However, first you need to acquire certain knowledge, skills and prepare a tool.

IN last years rocking chair has become a fairly common piece of furniture. In the assortment of many furniture enterprises you can find a large number of models of rocking chairs designed for use in apartments and offices. Moreover, among them there are models made in the classic version by the weaving method, as well as modern products that fully meet the requirements of high-tech style.

Benefits of a wooden chair

Before you start manufacturing, you need to decide what material to use for it as a basis. Although there are many options, the wooden chair is the most common. Therefore, further list the advantages that this material has:

  • environmental Safety. Wooden furniture has been very popular among consumers for many years, which provided it with such qualities as natural origin, safety and hypoallergenicity. Therefore, the owners of wooden chairs do not face any inconvenience in the process of using it, because they are confident in the environmental friendliness of this material;
  • strength and long service life. Wood is a fairly durable material, which was transferred to the furniture made from it. In addition, it perfectly tolerates mechanical stress and demonstrates a long service life;
  • attractive appearance and variety of forms.

Rattan rocking chair

We repeat that rocking chairs today offered in large quantities most various options. One of these products is a rattan rocking chair, which not only has a pleasant design, but is also able to perfectly harmonize with other elements of the cottage interior. The birthplace of rattan is South America, and this plant itself is often referred to as a flexible liana.

Of the features of this material, it should be noted high strength, in which it is capable compete with wicker.

The technology of manufacturing armchairs from this culture is characterized by the fact that instead of traditional joints based on screws and bolts, glue and skillful knitting are used. Alas, it is impossible to buy this tree in our country, so most owners country cottages it is impossible to make such a chair with your own hands.

Wicker rocking chair

A photo of the options available today for this piece of furniture allows us to judge that a wicker rocking chair is quite in demand today. It can be found in cottages and even in apartments in many regions of our country. A willow vine is used as a material for it, and the finished chair itself fits well into the interior of a garden house, a summer residence, and even the greenery of a garden. consumer rocking chair willow vine attracts primarily because of its low weight and high strength. However, such furniture has one serious drawback: excess moisture negatively affects the material, so it is not recommended to keep such chairs outdoors in wet weather.

Materials for manufacturing

Regardless of what type of wood you decide to use to make a wicker chair, you must have certain skills. The tree is affordable and easy to process, so many owners who are thinking about making a rocking chair with their own hands most often consider using wood as the basis for it. But first it is necessary prepare certain tools for making furniture:

  • electric jigsaw with a set of knife blades;
  • disc grinder with a set of coarse and fine-grained nozzles;
  • screwdriver with drills;
  • tape measure and corner with a ruler;
  • hammer and spatula;
  • brush and pencil.

Execution of the drawing

Even before you start work, you should consider that in order to make a quality rocking chair with your own hands, a drawing is required.

Having a sketch in hand, you can avoid serious errors in terms of product dimensions and correctly determine the quantity of materials that you will need to make.

First you need to take a metal mesh, each cell of which corresponds to 1 cm, and outline on it a template for the side of the chair. To further make it more convenient to work, it is recommended to transfer the created chair template to plain paper. So it will be easier for you to mark the outline of the chair already on the plywood itself. Do not worry if small errors are made. Here it is important to maintain the symmetry of the sidewalls and avoid protruding corner elements on the outer rolling part.

To do this work, we need plywood 3 cm thick, from which three drawers are cut dimensions 120 x 800 mm. The manufacture of sidewalls is carried out using an electric jigsaw exactly according to the pattern. After that, you need to take a beam 50 mm wide and 25 mm thick and cut out 35 fragments from it, each of which should be 120 cm long. The finished bars will later serve as a seat and back for us.

Try to get as much timber at the very beginning to minimize waste. This will be quite easy to do, given that you can calculate the total length of the timber even before buying. Let's say if it will have a length of 2.3 m, then better chair make narrower. As a result, its width will decrease to 115 cm, however, this will allow you to avoid waste. The given dimensions of the rocking chair do not require their exact observance. Therefore, if in the course of work it becomes clear to you that it would be better to increase or decrease the size to minimize waste, you can do it without fear.

Workpiece processing

Surface treatment of workpieces is carried out using grinder. During the operation, it is necessary Special attention give them to the ends. If, during work, wood fibers protrude on them, then you need to use a hammer and level them, and then process them with hot drying oil. So you will make the ends of your furniture more resistant to moisture, which will positively affect its service life. When the drying oil dries, it is necessary to re-process to consolidate the result.

The assembly of the chair is carried out, focusing on the drawing of the rocking chair. Necessary fasten the two sides, used kings. But first you need to mark the places where they will connect.

According to common schemes for the manufacture of rocking chairs, it is recommended to fix them in the head area, in the middle and at the legs. When you have to fasten the tie bars to the sidewall, use a confirmation for this. This name is given to a special screw screed, with the help of which wood materials are fixed. First, before fastening, it is necessary to create holes in the sidewall 8 mm and in the end of the drawer side 5 mm.

Next, we begin work on creating the seat and attaching it to the base. We take earlier cooked 35 pieces of timber, in which you need to make four holes for two on each side. After that, the bars must be fixed to the sidewalls. Given the number of holes present, it is recommended to fix the bars with 3 or 4 mm self-tapping screws. During the fastening of the boards, constantly check the horizontal position of their installation.

Finished product processing

If we turn to the experience of making rocking chairs made of wood and plywood by ordinary owners, we can identify a number of serious mistakes admitted after assembly. Among them, I would especially like to dwell on poor-quality finishing or its absence. In order to do everything right and ensure the chair has the longest possible service life, it is necessary do the following:

  • process the hole above the screws with putty;
  • cover with a layer of antiseptic;
  • apply waterproof varnish in two or three layers.

If you perform all the above work exactly, you can be sure that a rocking chair made by yourself will be able to please you for more than one year.

If you are going to start making a rocking chair with your own hands for the first time, then it will be useful for you read the recommendations experienced craftsmen who have done this work more than once:

Other types

One of the varieties of this piece of furniture is wooden Baby chair . It is done according to the same scheme as described above, however, you need to adjust the size for the age of the child. This also applies to the tilt of the backrest and handles. Quite often, child seats are made in the form of a horse.

Of particular interest is the rocking chair for the office. The peculiarity of its manufacture lies in the fact that leather is used for facing, as a result of which the product acquires a respectable and solid appearance. With such a chair at hand, a person will have the opportunity to relax and unwind during the working day.

Conclusion

Though furniture manufacturing offers enough big choice furniture, one of the most desirable for many owners of summer cottages is a rocking chair. Settled in it you can relax and allow yourself to forget about everyday affairs for a while.

Moreover, in order to personal experience to feel all the benefits of having such a piece of furniture, it is not necessary to spend big money on buying a rocking chair. You can always make it yourself. Considering that available materials and tools can be used for this, any person who has at least once held a hammer and saw in his hands can cope with this task. There are many ready-made schemes for the manufacture of such furniture, therefore, if you strictly follow the technology of manufacturing a rocking chair, you can create a fairly elegant and reliable product that can serve you for many years.

How to design correctly

There are several types of rocking chairs that suit different needs and habits of users. The first models that appeared in everyday life were equipped with simple arcs and skis. Do-it-yourself rocking chairs can be made according to the finished drawing. But you need to know that these drawings were created for an individual person and may not suit others. First of all, the product should be comfortable and meet your own needs.

If the family consists of 3-4 people, then the design of the chair is designed for the heaviest and tallest member of the family.

What you need to know when designing a product:

  1. In the manufacture of the chair, it is required to take into account that the center of gravity of the rocking chair must be correctly located in relation to the center of the rocking circle. Then the product will be comfortable and stable.
  2. A rocking chair made of wood will not move if these two points converge at one.
  3. The product will be unstable if the center of gravity moves higher in relation to the center of the circle.

How to choose material and design

The material for the chair is chosen depending on the interior of the room in which it will stand, and financial capabilities. Design and choice of material:

  • Wicker products, have a beautiful appearance and are the most popular models. They are expensive, because they are woven by hand from rattan and cane. Models made from Indonesian rattan are very durable and have good quality. It is elegant, comfortable and environmentally friendly clean products. Thanks to good depreciation, they are able to withstand any weight. They are often installed on balconies and loggias of a country house.
  • The frame for rocking chairs is made of profile pipe, metal or wood. Plywood is often used. Metal carcass combined with natural materials such as rattan. These products are highly durable and can withstand big weight. To make them comfortable to sit on, the back and seat are made of plastic pipes.
  • The most budgetary are products made from wood. They are less durable, but have a beautiful appearance. A classic armchair made of wood with your own hands will look incomparable in a living room with a fireplace.

Wrought iron models are suitable for gazebos. They have a graceful appearance and look rich. Often they are installed on verandas. country houses. soft pillows, laid on the seats, will give comfort to rest.

Simple rocking chair options

The basis of the chair is arched runners (skis), thanks to which it is able to swing. The dimensions of the skids can be long or short. Older people are better off choosing models with short skids. The swing of such products occurs calmly and evenly. Models with long runners will suit other people. Here the depth of movements is large and the chair is able to tilt to a reclining state. For creating simple option do-it-yourself rocking chairs drawings are not needed.

How to weave

A wicker chair has many advantages. It is light, environmentally friendly material is used for its manufacture, and thanks to weaving it turns out individual design. As a material for weaving, you can choose willow, alder or bird cherry. A vine of grapes or raspberries is also suitable. Creation of construction and weaving:

  1. First, the frame is assembled, which consists of a seat, backrest, support legs and armrests. Then make a braid.
  2. To make the shank softer, a cylindrical shape is used. The vine is thrown over the form and pulled up. Then they pass 2-3 times in different directions.
  3. The place of the braid is coated with PVA glue. Then the body of the product is woven.
  4. To inner part the frame was woven easier, 3 rods are used for winding. In addition, this will create additional reliability of the fasteners. Internal weaving can be done in an openwork, single or combined way.

There are several do-it-yourself wicker weaving techniques. This linear way, pigtail or staggered.

from wood

The simplest and fast option making a rocking chair - from an old chair that has wooden legs. Work order:

  1. Two curved supports are prepared from wooden bars.
  2. Grooves are cut under the legs.
  3. Then prepare 8 restrictive bars. 2 pieces for each leg.
  4. Limiters are nailed to each support. To ensure that the chair is stable and does not turn over from the outside of the supports, screw in 3 bolts. Each limiter is equipped with a closing plate.
  5. The legs are inserted into the grooves with limiters. Then each limiter is closed with plates and fixed with a perforator.

If you install a footboard in front, this will create additional convenience for the user. This rocking chair made of wood is suitable for giving.

metal

A homemade rocking chair made of metal is stronger and more durable than other models. For its manufacture, welding is needed, so not everyone will be able to cope with such work. To assemble the chair you will need:

  • pipes or steel bars with cuts 20 × 20 mm;
  • corners 40x40x3 mm;
  • steel sheet 2 mm;
  • welding machine and Bulgarian;
  • drills and a set of screws.

Manufacturing process:

  1. Do-it-yourself cuts are made from rods or pipes. Their length should be 1 m.
  2. Finished rods are attached to the frame with a distance of 5-6 mm. They are bent along an oval and fixed with a welding machine to the base.
  3. The seat is made of steel sheet. It is screwed to the body with screws.
  4. All seams are cleaned by files. The product is treated with an anti-corrosion agent and painted.

It will be possible to make the seat soft with the help of wooden planks or pillows. Flaw forged product- that's a lot of weight. Therefore, when making it, you need to try to make it smaller by changing some details to more lightweight material. To prevent the product from scratching the floor in the room, rubber strips are glued to its runners.

Step-by-step instructions for making a rocking chair

The most common material from which furniture is made is plywood. If we compare plywood with wood, then the first is 2 times stronger and more expensive. Due to the high moisture resistance of the material, the plywood rocking chair has long term operation. It is easier to repair or decorate such a product, because it lends itself to any processing. It can be dyed different paint or varnish, sand and cover with a film. To make a chair at home you will need:

  • plywood 3 sheets measuring 1520 × 800 mm (the thickness of each sheet is different - from 4 to 15 mm);
  • timber 53 cm long;
  • glue;
  • jigsaw;
  • screws.

Before you make a rocking chair with your own hands, you need to prepare a drawing.

Frame manufacturing

To make a plywood rocking chair yourself, you need to prepare patterns and put them on the material. Finished drawing transferred to a sheet of paper. The paper is pre-marked into cells. The size of each cell should be 10×10 mm. Then the cells are enlarged to the required size and, together with the painted details, are transferred to plywood. Plywood drawings are cut with a jigsaw. In doing so, the following must be taken into account:

  1. Assembling the back and seat is quite difficult. It consists of several elements, so their base is cut out of a thin sheet 4 mm thick. From a sheet of 10 mm, 18 planks (540 × 30 mm) and 16 crossbars (500 × 30) are prepared. Planks are used for the back, and cross bars for the seat. Racks, seat supports, slats (470 × 45 mm) and chair sides are cut out of plywood 15 mm thick. All parts are made in 2 pieces.
  2. IN wooden beam a hole is made for the screws. This part will serve as a footboard.
  3. Before proceeding with the assembly of the structure, all elements are cleaned with sandpaper.
  4. To give the structure a curved shape, thin strips (10mm) are glued to the back and seat, which were made of 4 mm plywood. All elements are fixed waterproof glue PVA.
  5. The crossbars are mounted on the base of the back and seat. Then install the footrest and sidewalls. All elements are fixed with washers with screws.
  6. The product is ready. To make the back and seat soft, they are covered with padding polyester and covered with fabric. Looks good natural or artificial leather. The pattern is made according to the size of the chair. Seat and back covered adhesive composition, then materials are laid in layers: burlap, synthetic winterizer, fabric. They are fixed with a furniture stapler.

If you follow all the rules for the operation of a furniture product, then it will last a long time.

Making skis

The comfort and smoothness of the rocking of the chair depends on the runners (skis). They can be made in two ways:

  • According to the drawing, 2 blanks are cut out of plywood and polished. The thickness of the plywood must be at least 15 mm. Skis must be installed in the grooves symmetrically with respect to each other. To do this, grooves are made in the legs of the product. Their depth should be from 7 to 10 cm. In the place where the legs of the chair and skis adjoin each other, cut through through holes. A wooden spike is inserted into them, having previously lubricated the holes with glue.
  • For the manufacture of skis, 2 square bars 1 m long and 45 mm thick are used. It cuts the grooves into which the legs of the chair will be inserted. To give the runners the necessary shape, the bars are soaked in hot water. When they soften, the material will become elastic and slightly arched. When the skis are dry, they are installed on the legs. The parts are fixed with glue, so all joints are pre-lubricated with a substance.

What do you do with old furniture?

The arrangement of a summer cottage includes not only building a house and laying out a garden or vegetable garden. For comfort, you need to have at least a minimum of furniture in the country, for example, an armchair. You can, of course, buy it in a store, but if you have at least minimal skills in handling a tool, then an assembled rocking chair made of metal with your own hands in your summer cottage will decorate your life.

You can make a rocking chair with your own hands, it will cost much less than buying it in a store.

Such an item can be made from the following materials:

  • wood;
  • metal, as mentioned above.

Next, we will consider the option self-manufacturing. Such a rocking chair is made of bars or pipes of aluminum or steel. It requires a minimum amount of metal to create. There is different types such rocking chairs:

  • completely metal, forged;
  • structures welded from rods or pipes;
  • combined: their base is made of metal, and the seat is made of wood or plastic.

A rocking chair with forged elements is difficult to manufacture. Therefore, they will not be considered.

Welded version

To create a structure from metal bars, you can use a welding machine or a drill and bolts.

First, a drawing is made. For a sample, a simple chair is taken, and all its dimensions are transferred to paper, and in order to make a rocking chair out of it, it is necessary to add an arc segment to the legs in the drawing. All this is done on the same scale, and therefore its radius is freely determined from the drawing.

The swing range depends on it: the smaller the radius of the arc, the greater the likelihood of injury.

In the construction market, purchase steel bars with a cross section of 20 X 20 millimeters. They are cut to size and then the base of your rocking chair is welded according to the drawing. Then arcs are bent from the bar and welded to the legs on the frame. There are several ways to create a seat:

  • segments of the required length are cut from the bars and welded into the main frame in increments of 5-6 mm - the chair will turn out to be very durable, but the amount of work will increase, and metal consumption will increase;
  • a sheet of metal 2 mm thick is welded onto the frame along the entire length of the seat and back of the rocking chair or screwed with screws.

One of the options for this design is a bed completely curved from a metal sheet with arcs curved from steel or aluminum pipes.

When using this option, keep in mind that sitting on metal is not always pleasant, and therefore do not forget to put small pillows on the seat and back.

To facilitate the base, it can be made of aluminum pipes with a caliber of 20 millimeters. They are cut to the size you need and are interconnected with screws and steel squares.

The seat bed can be made of tarpaulin or any dense material in the same way as it is done on a couch or made of wooden blocks, as described above.

Some pieces of furniture can hardly be called necessary. But after the rocking chair made with their own hands appears in the house, the inhabitants will be surprised - how they could do without such a pleasant device before.

They make rocking chairs like modern ones available materials: plastic, cardboard, and from traditional ones - wood, rattan, metal. Giving preference to metal professional pipes (that is, steel pipes with oval, round or rectangular shape section), the master receives a product that has a number of advantages. Furniture from such raw materials comes out lighter, stronger and, as a rule, inexpensive. Indeed, to create furnishings, the remains of materials that remain after other work is often used.

Simple designer rocking chair

This master class is for those who know how to weld metal. Minimalism has been in fashion for a long time. Try to make a simple but remarkable rocking chair. Pay attention to the work of the Belgian designer Müller Vann Severin. His works are distinguished by geometry, simplicity and functionality.

The frame of the rocking chair is made of steel tube, and dense textiles are used for the seat. The choice of color is limited only by the imagination. Such furniture can be placed in an ultra-modern apartment, put on a loggia, create a comfortable corner for relaxing near a country house.

Prepare materials for work

First of all, you should prepare the existing or specially purchased metal pipes that will become the base of the rocking chair. A round or oval profile with a diameter of at least 2 cm is best. In addition, you will need a piece of durable (preferably high cotton content) material 120x130 cm in order to sew the sling seat. Also on hand should be:

  • Apparatus for metal welding.
  • Protective equipment for eyes and hands.
  • Bulgarian with cutting and grinding nozzles.
  • Bending fixture metal pipes(pipe bender).
  • Primer for metal.
  • Paint (color of your choice) on metal.
  • Magnetic square for welding.
  • Roulette, pencil.
  • Sewing machine.

Before you start creating a chair, you will need to pick up or cut the necessary blanks from the pipe:

  • 4 parts (A) 65 cm long;
  • 2 elements (B) 26.8 cm;
  • 2 pieces (C) 86.7 cm long;
  • 2 elements (D) each 60 cm;
  • 2 pieces (E) 89.6 cm each.

A diagram with letter designations of parts will help to present the design and method of arranging all the blanks.

If necessary, you can change the set size of the chair to your own by proportionally increasing / decreasing all parameters. Be careful when creating a product bigger size, choose a profile pipe of a larger diameter so that the base can withstand a greater load.

Description of work

  1. Prepare the ends of the steel blanks so that they fit snugly together when connected. Using a grinder and a grinding attachment, make rounded notches in the indicated places:
  • on steel rods A, cut and sand both ends;
  • on parts B, make notches on one side only;
  • on each rod C, grind one end as indicated.

Attention! When welding parts, be sure to place them on a flat surface (on big table or on the floor) to avoid skewed connections.

  1. As shown in the photo below, first assemble the side parts of the chair. When using a magnetic welding square, make sure all parts are at 90 degrees to each other. When welding, so that the angle is not broken, you can also use any cinder block as a template.
  2. When the two sides are completely ready, attach two front and two back parts A to them.
  3. Now you should give the desired bend to the parts-runners of the chair (E). If you have a pipe bender at your disposal, then the task seems simple. In the case when there is no special equipment, look for a suitable device. You can find some witty ideas on the Internet. For example, a forked tree trunk and an additional metal rod (thin and solid, not a pipe) can become an output. Install the rod between the trunks, put the part on it, slowly pressing on the free end of the pipe, give it a shape. Carefully do the work, the bend of both parts should be as similar as possible.
  4. Solder the ends curved parts(E) to the chair legs. This completes the hardest part of the job.
  5. Use a grinder with a grinding attachment to clean the solder joints so that the joints are neat, smooth, without dangerous sharp edges.
  6. Clean the frame with a sponge dipped in soapy water.

For further processing, it would be nice to hang the frame, then all the metal parts will be processed in the same way.

  1. First coat the clean, dry frame with two or three coats of primer. Each subsequent layer should be applied only after 24 hours on the completely dried previous one.
  2. If desired, paint the metal base with your chosen paint color or cover with 1-2 layers of matte varnish.

Entrust the manufacture of the cover to a person who knows how to work on sewing machine. Instead of new fabric you can take an old blanket, then the fabric does not have to be folded in half.

  1. Fold a piece of prepared fabric 120 cm wide and about 130 cm long in half to make a 60x130 cm rectangle. Sew the two long sides to make a sleeve. Turn it inside out. Wrap the edges of the sleeve inward and also sew. Such careful work will extend the life of the fabric part of the rocking chair.
  2. If you can arrange the product as shown in the photo, sew the chair onto the frame with a machine. Otherwise, try to do this work manually as best as possible.

That's all, your do-it-yourself rocking chair made of pipes turned out to be no worse than a designer one.

Armchair made of polypropylene pipes

Rocking chair is easy to build from polypropylene pipes small diameter. If you pick up all the necessary details, then the work will not take too much time.

Materials and tools

To assemble the chair you will need:

  • Polypropylene pipe with a diameter of 25 mm for bearing parts.
  • Polypropylene pipe with a diameter of 20 mm for the cross members.
  • Drill with a thick drill.
  • Apparatus for welding polypropylene pipes.
  • Metal reinforcement with a cross section of about 14-16 mm will be located inside the entire structure, giving it stability and rigidity.
  • 8 fittings for triple connection of pipes of suitable diameter.
  • 2 fittings for corner connection at 90 degrees.
  • 6 fittings for 45 degree elbow connection.
  • Sand or building hair dryer and a plug for a pipe with a diameter of 2 cm.
  • Roulette, pencil.

Cut the pipe with a diameter of 2.5 cm into pieces (2 identical) of each size:

  • 5 cm - the lower parts of the side support;
  • 40 cm - parts of the side support;
  • 51 cm - parts of the side support;
  • 62 cm - parts of the side support;
  • 18 cm - the upper parts of the side support;
  • 22 cm - parts of the side support, which must be rounded;
  • 220 cm - skids, which must be rounded.

From a pipe with a cross section of 2 cm, prepare 18 blanks 60-65 cm long for the cross bars.

Description of work

  1. First of all, you need to give the skids and upper parts the bases are rounded. When doing this work, we must try to make paired parts as similar as possible.

A plastic pipe can be given any shape by heating the bend. But when heated, plastic releases toxic substances. Most in safe ways is the use of a special hair dryer or hot sand. Heat the sand in the oven to 95-130 degrees. Close one end of the pipe with a plug. Use a metal funnel to fill the tube with sand. Give the desired shape, leave to cool.

When performing work related to heating plastic, use respiratory protection and stay in a ventilated area!

  1. Assemble the sides of the chair by placing metal fittings inside. The assembly order is shown in the diagram below.
  2. On both parts, make markings for the crossbars.
  3. Drill holes up to 2 cm in diameter in these places.
  4. Place the rebar in the cross members so that the ends protrude 3-4 cm.
  5. After placing the ends of the reinforcement in the holes, attach the transverse parts, solder them using special equipment.
  6. Insert the ends of large arcs into the extreme tees, solder them.
  7. From the remains of the pipe, make additional reinforcements for the chair. Use a tape measure to determine the desired length of the parts. Cut them off. Weld one end of each to the tee, the other to the arc.

It remains to sew a cover on foam mattress and place it, fixing it on the frame with tie ribbons.
