Installing mosquito nets on the inner corners. Installing a mosquito net on plastic windows with your own hands. Manufacturing of frame mesh

In any region, they try to protect living quarters from insects from the street, be they flocks of mosquitoes or single individuals. The most environmentally friendly and in a safe way protection is mechanical - equipping window and door openings with mesh structures, permanently placed or removable, compactly folding or rigid - in the form of frame sashes of a certain size.

Types of devices for protecting homes from mosquitoes

To know how to install a mosquito net - a necessary additional accessory for window frames, let's take a closer look at the most common designs of these protective devices and their characteristics.

The main task of such nets is to create a barrier to the path of insects from the street to the apartment. Based on this, window and door openings of housing for protection against mosquitoes were previously equipped with any mesh material that was suitable at first glance - gauze, tulle, gauze fabric, fine-mesh steel construction mesh, etc. However, it soon became clear that due to certain factors these materials lose their functionality and require repair or replacement.

Some functions of mosquito net devices

To choose the right fabric for mosquito protection, we list the necessary characteristics that it must have:

  • the optimal combination of mesh size and thickness of the base material - creating a barrier in the path of insects while allowing the unhindered passage of air and maintaining sufficient transparency for viewing;
  • strength - the ability to withstand random mechanical impacts and wind;
  • moisture and heat resistance, ultraviolet resistance - the material preserves the strength characteristics and geometry of the canvas under the influence of atmospheric moisture, summer air temperature and sunlight;
  • antistatic properties - to prevent clogging of cell openings with dust attracted by static electricity;
  • ease of daily care to maintain the necessary sanitary and hygienic condition;
  • safety – absence of harmful emissions into the air.

Based on the listed requirements, not all mesh materials are suitable for durable and effective equipping of window and door openings with protection against insects: gauze quickly becomes dirty, stretches and impairs visibility, mesh made from steel wire without coating they rust, and fine-mesh nylon ones accumulate static electricity and become clogged with dust. These materials can only be used for a temporary solution to the problem, and for high-quality furnishing of housing with mosquito protection, special fine-mesh mesh canvases are used.

Types of mesh for mosquito repellent devices

Mosquito repellent mesh has certain characteristics.

The first one is cell size , which is in the range of 0.5 – 1.2 mm. As the cell lumen decreases, the protective ability of the mesh increases - less dust will penetrate into the room. But it should be borne in mind that fabric with cells of minimal sizes needs to be washed more often - as it becomes dirty, its permeability to air and light quickly deteriorates. A canvas with a maximum mesh size is almost no barrier to dust. Therefore, the best option when choosing the degree of protection would be a mesh with a medium-sized cell - from 0.8 to 1 mm.

The second most important characteristic of a mesh fabric, which is also tied to the cell size, is material of manufacture , from which the canvas is made:

  • cotton - with high resistance to ultraviolet radiation and retention capacity (lint on threads), cotton netting for protection against mosquitoes from the outside is rarely used, since the lack of resistance to moisture and mold causes its fragility;
  • polyester (nylon) - in the absence of any outstanding individual characteristics, canvas made of thread up to 0.8 mm thick, supporting weight up to 4 kg, is quite strong, durable, cheap and therefore most common for external protection from mosquitoes;

Fine mesh mosquito repellent fabrics: on the left – made of cotton, on the right – made of polyester.

  • nylon – a polymer for the production of anti-allergenic mesh of complex fine-mesh “anti-dust” weaving, which traps even flower pollen;
  • steel thread - fabric woven from steel wire is widely used due to its high strength, but the price of material with a protective zinc coating or stainless steel is quite high;

Mesh material: on the left – “anti-dust”, on the right – “anti-cat” made of stainless steel

  • fiberglass (glass fiber coated with PVC) – the best choice, due to the high transparency and strength of the canvas, which does not support combustion and is resistant to all atmospheric factors.

A significant factor when choosing a mesh is also its color , affecting light transmission, transparency and compliance with the interior. The canvas is as transparent as possible for viewing. gray, but if the window is not panoramic, this factor can be sacrificed in favor of the aesthetics of the canvas and choose a mesh of a different color.

Colored mesh fabrics for mosquito protection

If there are pets in the house, it becomes especially important strength cellular canvas, which must withstand the impact of claws, teeth or the weight of pets. Grids that can withstand these factors are combined into "anti-cat" group and are produced from polyester, fiberglass and metal (woven steel and expanded aluminum).

Types of metal mesh of the "anti-cat" class: 1 - woven steel, 2, 3 - aluminum perforated.

The strength of cellular canvases of this class allows them to be used for mosquito control devices installed both on large format windows and on doorways.

From the products offered modern market, anti-mosquito cloths from such foreign manufacturers as the German Roto (Roto Frank AG), the Danish Velux Group, the Polish Fakro Group and the American Pfeiffer (Phifer & Company) have proven themselves well.

Designs of mesh devices for protection against mosquitoes

Mechanical mosquito protection devices are produced today in many varieties, the difference from each other is often not even noticeable visually. But there are two main groups of such devices:

  1. frame (frame);
  2. frameless.

Frame They are a frame of a fixed size and format on which a mesh fabric is attached. On a window or door block Such a sash can be installed in the opening using the following devices:

  • plungers (pins on springs);
  • loops;
  • Z-shaped fastenings;
  • corner clamps;
  • rotary flag clamps;
  • guide rails.

Frameless designs mosquito repellent devices include the following types:

  • on sticky mounting tape;
  • roll (roller);
  • pleated.

If you have basic installation skills, all types of protective devices can be installed independently; each of them is simply installed taking into account the individual nuances of the design.

Methods for installing mosquito repellent devices and necessary accessories

Let's see how on one's own install a mosquito net on plastic window, if the protective device is ready or semi-ready (mesh canvas with Velcro).

Installation of a mosquito sash in a window block on plungers

Plungers are a system of movable pins (rods) with closer springs, installed around the perimeter of the sash at its end and holding the frame with the mesh in the window opening by resting on the inner edge.

Important! With the plunger method of fastening, the frame with the mesh is installed not as an overlay on the window block, but in the opening between the sealing rubber bands, so the accuracy of the measurements of the future frame is especially important - the distance between opposite points between the seal is measured in several places and the average value is taken as the design value. Measurements are usually carried out by the protection manufacturer.

Of all the methods for installing mosquito protection, the plunger method is the most reliable and therefore expensive, but still affordable mounting option.

The manufacturer installs 4 plungers on the protection frame - 2 on each side. Having placed the frame in the window opening at the installation site, use a marker to mark the drilling points along the pins for installing the mating sleeves. Having drilled 2 holes on one side and installed sleeves in them, install the frame rods in the sockets and rest the pins against the window block on the other side. Once again checking the correct location of the marks applied, make the remaining two holes.

A brush seal is glued along the outer contour of the sash with a mesh to fill the gaps between the window block and the mosquito protection sash.

Locations of spacer plungers and sealing brushes

After installing the remaining response sleeves, the frame with the mesh is installed in place, pushing the plungers into the sockets.

Installing mosquito protection in a window opening on hinges

Window sashes, as a rule, open inward, so a frame with a mosquito net is installed on the window block from the outside - on the trim using self-tapping screws.

Hinges are installed on the protection frame in such a way that their supporting half remains removable downwards when the pins are directed upwards.

Important! If the apartment floor is the first, then the hinges on the sash can be installed so that the axes of their supporting halves are located towards each other or are directed in opposite directions - with this fastening, the frame from the street side can only be removed by unscrewing the screws.

Accessories for swing installation doors: hinges, lock (magnetic and latch)

Having secured the latch and hinges to the frame with screws, the sash is applied to the window block and centered, after which their axial halves and the lock are fixed with self-tapping screws on the frame - it is more convenient to perform this operation with two people and with the help of an electric screwdriver.

Installation of hinges and lock on the sash

A swing installation of mosquito protection is indispensable when equipping doorways with mesh, but it is better to install 3 hinges on the door.

Fastening the frame with a protective mesh to Z-shaped brackets

For this method of installing a sash with a mesh, metal fasteners of a Z-shaped configuration are used, and the elements of the upper location differ from the lower brackets in the size of the pressure shelf.

Z-shaped brackets and their location on the window block

This method of attaching frame mosquito protection is also quite reliable, but the location of the clamps must be precisely adjusted to the height. In addition, it is sometimes necessary to glue additional gaskets into the brackets to ensure a tighter fit of the sash to the block.

Installation begins by fastening the lower clamps with self-tapping screws at a distance of 25 mm from the lower edge of the window opening. Then the height of the frame is set upward from the brackets and another 12-15 mm is added to the risks, after which the upper Z-elements are mounted, which for aesthetics should be located exactly opposite the lower ones.

Z-clamps: lower and upper (with technological gap)

As can be seen from the figures illustrating the plunger and two subsequent methods of installing mosquito flaps, the dimensions of the rod fixation protective frames with the same dimensions window opening will differ to a lesser extent, which must be taken into account if a decision is suddenly made to change the mounting option.

Linking the size of the mesh sash to the dimensions of the opening, depending on the method of installing the protection

Fixing frame protection to corner stops

This method fastening is a variation of the previous one and differs from it in the location of the brackets and, accordingly, in their design.

Installation of a mosquito frame on the corners - “pockets”

Corner stops, also called pockets, by definition are mounted in places where the corners of the protective frame adjoin the window block, and the elements of the top row differ from the bottom stops. Measurements of the location are made identical to the layout of the Z-brackets.

The location of the top and bottom row of “pockets”

Mounting the frame on “pockets” is a reliable fixation technology and even has an advantage over installation on Z-brackets - the protection frame cannot be moved to the side by a gust of wind.

Mosquito frame with flag clips

The essence of the fixation method is to use swivel brackets, the durability of which depends on their design and material of manufacture.

The sash, equipped for convenience with a crossbar or handles, is located outside the window block. After installing the frame in place, the flags are turned outward beyond the contour and press the frame profile to the binding.

Metal version of flag clamps

Attaching the flags to the frame is not difficult - using self-tapping screws along the perimeter of the sash in increments depending on the size of the opening and the wind load on the window.

Plastic version of rotary flags

This fastening method is inferior in reliability to the previous ones, since the fit of the flags on the sash and the tightness of the frame fixation weaken over time, and therefore the brackets require periodic tightening of the screws.

Installation of a protective sash with a mesh on the guide rails

Plastics are currently being produced window units, the design of which includes a movable sash with a mesh that moves in the opening along guides located outside or inside and which are part of the profile. But such window frames are much more expensive than conventional ones, so it is more advisable to equip the window with a sliding frame yourself.

Window blocks made from a profile designed for industrial installation with mosquito sashes

To equip a window with a sliding sash, you must order the frame itself with a mesh and guides. The height of the protection frame is taken in such a way that there is space left at the top and bottom of the horizontal sections of the window block for mounting the runners, and the width depends on the size of the opening.

The guides can be made of aluminum or plastic and, depending on preference, are attached to the block from the outside or inside.

Important! The slats are installed between each other at a distance that provides a gap of 1-2 mm with the sash on top for free movement of the frame at any time of the year, and strictly parallel to each other.

Samples of installed mosquito protection sliding doors

For easy sliding, the sash is equipped with rollers on the bottom, sliders on the top, and the contour of its junction with the guide is finished on the back side with a brush seal.

Using a tape measure and a building level, the installation of the guides is marked, after which they are fastened with self-tapping screws. Roller fittings and handles are installed on the shutters for ease of movement, after which the protection assembly is inserted into the runners. If the frame moves easily after installation and adheres well to the block, then restrictive plugs are attached to the ends of the guides.

Installing frameless mosquito net protection on adhesive tape

Of all existing methods To protect your home from insects and dust, this method is the simplest.

The principle of attaching a protective mesh without a frame to a window opening

Purchase adhesive tape with a length equal to the perimeter of the window opening, and a mesh canvas with the necessary characteristics for the size of the window block with a margin of 3-5 cm in both directions.

Sold and ready-made kits protection of a certain size, including fabric, Velcro and glue.

Components are produced various colors so that the mounted device fits optimally into the interior of the room.

Kit for installing mosquito protection with adhesive tape

Velcro is attached to the profile of the block from the inside with glue - after preparing the base (degreasing and marking along a ruler). It is better to stitch the tape to the fabric using a sewing machine, first tucking the edges of the mesh inward.

The technology is simple, functional, cheap and safe.

Rolled (roller) design of a mosquito protection device

This type of device is the most modern both in technical design and visually, which determines its high cost - from 5 thousand rubles. per square meter.

The design consists of a horizontally mounted cylindrical box, in which a blade is placed on an axis with a return spring, which extends along guides with brush seals to the required length if you pull the handle located on the outside.

External view and internal design of roll-up mosquito protection

Roller shutter devices are produced in industrial conditions, but there are restrictions on dimensions: height - up to 250 cm, width - up to 200 cm.

Important! Despite many advantages, this design has a serious drawback - only a regular mesh can be installed in it, and “anti-dust”, “anti-pollen” and “anti-cat” canvases cannot be used.

Roller shutter protection against insects: on the left – at the installation stage, on the right – installed in place.

Anti-mosquito net of the pleated system

This type of protection is new to domestic market. Each device is manufactured for a specific size of window opening, while the maximum dimensions are limited to 5 meters in width and 3 m in height, which allows them to equip public, administrative or sports premises with large glazed areas.

Schemes of possible canvas movement depending on the design of the protection

The operating principle of the device is to cover the opening with a mesh folded in the shape of an “accordion” in a vertical or horizontal direction (depending on the design).

The design solution of the device imposes restrictions on the material of the canvas - the “pleated” protection uses polyamide canvas, the characteristics of which, however, are quite high.

Types of cellular canvas for pleated protection

Advantages of the pleated device:

  • the ability to service large openings;
  • high degree of compactness when folded;
  • durability;
  • wide choice of colors.

Pleated type of protection in working condition

Despite the apparent complexity of the internal structure, the “plisse” is quite possible to install independently, since when assembled it is a rectangular block, ready for installation on a window frame.

Installation diagram of one of the types of mosquito protection of the “pleated” type from the domestic manufacturer “SK-F” (SKF).

In addition to high technical and aesthetic characteristics, “pleated” stands out among other types of protection and is priced from 8 thousand rubles. for 1 square meter.

Conclusion

In most regions of Russia, mosquito protection for door and window openings is a necessary accessory. Based on this, domestic and foreign manufacturers offer these products in a wide price range that can satisfy consumers even with low purchasing power. Therefore, by giving priority to functionality, you can protect your home from insects and dust for a very small amount.

The main point of the article

  1. The most environmentally friendly and safe protection mosquitoes are repelled by mechanical (fencing) means, so mesh canvases are widely in demand to solve this problem.
  2. Not only housing, but also most premises for any other purpose needs protection from mosquitoes and dust, which is why mosquito protection manufacturers offer devices of varying functionality and performance classes.
  3. Despite varying degrees complexity of mosquito protection devices, the vast majority of them are suitable for DIY installation.
  4. Ready-to-install industrial products have installation instructions, compliance with which guarantees the efficiency and durability of the device. If the accessory is made independently or in a small craft workshop, then you need to know some of the nuances of its installation that are characteristic of this design.
  5. Following the recommendations of professionals will protect against damage to the material and provide long-term and effective protection of premises from dust and insects.

With the arrival of warmer weather, hordes of insects come back to life and you can’t live without mosquito nets. Only they are able to protect the premises from the ubiquitous insects. And then some copies manage to leak somewhere. But since the nets are for some reason very short-lived, they have to be replaced or repaired. You won’t call a company representative every time and pay pretty decent money for a job that only takes a couple of tens of minutes. That’s why they try to make/repair/install a mosquito net with their own hands.

Types of mosquito nets

There are three types of mosquito nets:

As you can see, there are many types. Nevertheless, in 90% of cases frame structures are installed. At a low price, they create a completely normal level of comfort.

Types of fastening frame mesh

Most often, it is frame mosquito nets that are installed. There are two ways to attach them: Z-shaped brackets and rods (plungers).

Different ways to install a mosquito stack

When mounted on brackets, they are mounted on the street side. In most cases, this is convenient and, if circumstances permit, this installation method is chosen. The dimensions of the mesh must be larger than the light clearance of the window sash: the frame is inserted from the outside.

When using plungers, the mesh is also attached behind the glass, but the clamps themselves (rods) are located on the side of the room. This device is convenient on the first floors: it is impossible to remove the mesh from the outside. When installing a mosquito net on rods, its frame must be equal to the size of the light opening. You can’t do it with millimeter precision, but to ensure there is no gap, a brush is attached around the perimeter. It prevents insects from getting in.

How to measure a window for an order

Quite often, a frame with a mesh is ordered from a company, and it is installed on the windows yourself. When ordering, you will be asked to indicate the dimensions of the light opening. The required measurements are taken with the sash open. You measure the distance from one rubber seal to the other: width and height. Measure in several places, write down with millimeter accuracy. The accuracy determines how well the grids will fit your window.

What you need to know

When ordering or purchasing a mesh for a window, you need to pay attention to its characteristics. Firstly, it is available with different cell sizes: from 0.6 mm to 1.2 mm. The smaller the gap, the less likely it is that an insect will “leak through” and the less fluff there will be. But with high density, air also passes poorly, which can be critical in the southern regions. Because best option somewhere in the middle 0.8-1.mm.

The mesh is also available from different materials:

  • Cotton. Cotton thread has high UV resistance. Its fleecy structure increases the “retention” ability: insects do not crawl through such a mesh. But since the fiber is natural, it reacts poorly to moisture, is often affected by mold and rot, and therefore is rarely used.
  • Polyester. The most common material. It is quite strong and durable, although it has a low price, but does not have any special properties.
  • Nylon. A special anti-allergenic mesh is made from nylon. It is produced using a special technology with complex weaving. Due to this, it even traps dust and pollen. Such nets are often called “anti-dust” or “anti-allergy”.
  • Fiberglass. It is considered optimal because it has high transparency: when using such grids, the degree of illumination almost does not change. At the same time, its strength is very high - even comparable to the strength of metal. An anti-cat mosquito net is made from fiberglass, which can withstand the weight of the animal and does not tear under the claws.

If no special properties are needed, choose the usual one - made of polyester. Sometimes they may ask what color mesh is needed. The most invisible to the eye is gray, so that’s what you can order.

How to install a frame mesh on a plastic window

You have received a ready-made mesh. It comes with 4 small Z-brackets (brackets). Please note that they have shelves different sizes: two 4 cm each and two 2.5 cm each. Brackets with large shelves are installed at the top of the frame, with smaller ones at the bottom.

Z-shaped brackets have different shelf lengths

To attach to the frame, each support bracket will need 2 self-tapping screws with a screw, which are also called “seeds”. You will need a marker with a thin lead or a soft pencil. You will need a drill with a 2 mm drill bit and a screwdriver or screwdriver.

On the outside of the window frame we draw a strip 3 cm below the edge. We stand on a small stepladder or on a chair, take the frame with the mesh outside the window, and also lean out halfway. Applying the bottom edge of the frame to the drawn line, mark its top.

You can do without manipulating the frame: you need to accurately measure its height and set this value aside from the line drawn below. From the resulting point we put another 1.8 cm up and here we draw a second line. We will use it to align the fastener shelves.

We take brackets with long walls. We apply it so that the protrusion is on the line. You need to retreat about 10 cm from the edges relative to the light clearance. Mark the points where you will need to make holes. We carry out a similar operation with “short” brackets from below. To control, measure the distance between the marks at the top and bottom. It should be 1.8 cm longer than the length of your frame. If everything is correct, drill holes in the profile (2 mm drill) and install brackets on the “seeds”. Actually, that’s all, we can assume that the mosquito net was installed with your own hands.

Installing mosquito stacks in a window

Now take the net by the handles, turn it slightly sideways, and take it outside. Insert the upper edge into the upper brackets, align it vertically, lift it all the way, place the edge behind the lower brackets and lower it. The mesh stands supported by brackets.

It is removed in reverse order. Take hold of the handles, lift up until it stops, remove the lower edge from the brackets, moving the mesh a little away from you (a couple of centimeters, no more). Then, moving it down a little, you pull it out of the upper brackets.

Installation on corners

There is another type of fastener, similar in principle to “work” with brackets - corners. When installing this type of clamp for a mosquito net, you also need to accurately measure the width. To do this, you will have to find the center of the light opening, from which to set aside half the width of the grid. Interior The corner should correspond to the width of the frame with the mesh with a small gap of 2-3 mm for freedom of fixation.

Corners for installing mesh

That is, if there is this type of fastening, they fix the corners and the width should be exactly at the corners. When installing, we leave the same gap of 1.5-1.8 cm in height. It makes it possible to install the frame in the mounts, and is held in place due to the fact that the upper shelves are larger.

Do-it-yourself mosquito net: we assemble it ourselves

As you understand, you can assemble the frame and stretch the mesh yourself. All components can be purchased from companies that sell spare parts for plastic windows. The following components will be needed:

This is what the frame for a mosquito net looks like in a semi-assembled state

  • profile for mesh frame MFP2;
  • impost profile (transverse partition with a mesh height of more than 1 m) MFPI and two fastenings for it;
  • mesh fabric;
  • corners for assembly;
  • sealing cord (rubber or even woven);
  • handles - 2 pcs;
  • self-tapping screws with a countersunk head with a drill, dimensions 3.9*16 mm;

Frame assembly

The frame consists of two long profile sections and two short ones. They are connected to each other using corners. They can be plastic (a cheap but short-lived material) and metal, painted white or brown paint(in the tone of the profile).

They also often install an impost - a jumper, which is installed approximately in the middle of the long side. It increases the rigidity of the structure and prevents long profiles from “playing”.

The lengths of the profiles must be cut taking into account the fact that they are assembled into corners. Therefore, 20 mm is subtracted from the width and length of the light opening (how to measure as described above) - this is exactly the length that is replaced by the corners.

Saw off two sections of the required length from the profiles. It's better to cut hand saw for metal - you get a more even cut with almost no burrs. It is brought to smoothness with a file or sandpaper. Then on a flat surface - more conveniently on a table, laying the profile with the grooves up, fold the rectangle, insert the corner holders - the grooves are also up. In the photo, the grooves are directed downwards, but this is inconvenient - you then have to turn the frame over.

We assemble a frame from profile sections and corners

If the corners and profiles match normally, they should be inserted tightly. Very tight. It won't work to put it in place with your hands. You will have to tamp it down, and in order not to damage the plastic, use a lining - wooden block or a piece of chipboard, as in the photo.

How to assemble a frame for a mosquito net for windows

When assembling, also check the corners. They must be strictly 90°, or the frame will be oblique, and there will be cracks into which mosquito flies can crawl. After the rectangle is assembled, we install the impost. We saw it off 2-3 mm shorter than the resulting width of the frame, insert holders on both sides, and secure it to the frame in the groove.

Impost and holder

Stretch the mesh

We spread the mesh over the assembled frame. It should be 3-5 cm larger than the frame on each side: this will make it easier to tighten. We take the cord and press it through the mesh into the groove. You can start from one of the corners, or you can from the middle of the short side, alternately moving to the right and then to the left.

The cord goes in quite rigidly; in workshops it is rolled up with a roller; if it is missing, you can use any object with a rounded surface. The handle of a stationery or kitchen knife, screwdriver holder, scissor handle, etc. will do. While straightening the mesh, insert the cord.

Types of handles: plastic and with a metal base

Installation of handles

Having reached the installation site of the impost, we install the handles. Usually they are thin, plastic, inserted into a groove under the mesh, then pressed with a cord. There is a second type of handles - they are denser, sometimes with a metal base, screwed onto the profile with self-tapping screws, but after the mesh has been tensioned. If you have a choice, take metal ones or at least plastic ones, but thick ones. The plastic ones are very flimsy and often break.

If during the process the mesh lies crooked, the cord can be pulled out by prying it with a screwdriver or something similar, straightened, and rolled up again. Having finished stretching, check the width and height of the frame at several points. If there are deviations somewhere, it means that the mesh is stretched too tightly in this place. It is loosened by pressing a little with the palm of your hand near the frame. If it is not possible to equalize the width, the cord is hooked and pulled out at some interval. Having equalized the width, holding the mesh, tuck it in again.

You can pry off the sealing cord with a screwdriver

If all the dimensions match, you can cut the cord, tuck in the tail, then walk along the profile again, checking that the seal fits evenly. Now the protruding edges can be trimmed. This is usually done using a stationery knife. That's it, the mosquito net has been assembled with your own hands, you can start installing it on the window.

An example of assembly can be seen in the following video. This is an advertising video: the company sells ready-made kits for self-assembly. The process is not detailed enough, but it can be considered in general terms.

Homemade mosquito nets: saving to the fullest

If you calculate the cost of all spare parts and take into account the time lost on purchasing and assembling them, the benefit is dubious. They still sell components to you at a higher price than to companies. It can only be useful in the sense that after self-assembly you can easily repair it yourself.

However, there are several very inexpensive options for homemade mosquito nets. They are made using a frameless principle and are mounted directly on the window. There are two ways to install this:

  • Velcro is a knitted tape that consists of two parts - a tape with hooks and a counter with a rough surface. The mesh is cut out a little larger than the light opening, the counter part is sewn to the mesh, and the part with hooks is attached to the frame around the perimeter of the window with an adhesive layer.
  • On the sealing cord. It is inserted in place of the standard seal. To do this, remove it (pry it up and pull it out), stretch the mesh over the opening, and press the cord into the groove. The principle is the same as when installing a mesh in a frame.

Second way self-made see the video for a budget mosquito net. The idea is great, the costs are minimal.

How to reduce the amount of dust through the mesh

Replacing handles on a mosquito net

This article is devoted to the simplest devices that allow you to protect living quarters from the penetration of mosquitoes and other annoying insects - mosquito nets.

According to their design and method of fastening, models of mosquito nets are divided into the following groups:

  • removable mesh in frame design;
  • sliding nets;
  • roll structures;
  • with magnetic mount;
  • with tape fastening.

Mosquito nets do not require special care and are easily installed in window and door openings. Their maintenance, performed no more than twice a year, most often comes down to simply washing the fabric with a mild cleaning solution.

Functional purpose

A typical mosquito net is a classic aluminum profile with a fine-mesh fabric of inconspicuous colors stretched over it. As for the functional purpose of the mosquito net, with the help of this simple device you can:

  1. Protect your home from various insects entering it.
  2. Prevent dust and small particles of plant origin from entering the room, which are the cause of allergic diseases.
  3. Protect pets from accidentally falling from an open window.

Installation of a ready-made mosquito net will not require any special skills and will cost much less than calling a specialist to your home.

Frame mesh with fastening elements

The type of fastening of the mesh at the installation site depends on where you are going to mount it. To attach this device to a modern plastic window, for example, you will need a set of mounting brackets and several self-tapping screws.

If the kit does not include ready-made fasteners, installation can be done in the following sequence:

  1. First of all, you need to try on the finished frame with a mesh at the installation site, which will allow you to mark its attachment points in the window opening.
  2. Next, you can proceed to installing the central and corner mounting brackets on the frame in accordance with the previously made markings.
  3. After this, the mounting of the mating parts of the fastening brackets is carried out, secured at the designated points of the window opening using self-tapping screws suitable size. In this case, a small gap (about 10 mm) will need to be left under the upper fastening elements, making it easier to insert the edge of the frame into the window space.

Installation of mosquito nets in balcony openings is carried out by simply hanging them on hinges and installing special retaining fittings, designed in the form of magnetic clamps. First, the locations for installing the hinges are marked and secured using self-tapping screws, and then (after hanging the frame and fitting) fixing magnets are installed in the right places.

There are often situations in which there is a need to place an order for the production of a new mosquito net (in case of wear or damage to the old frame, for example). In this case, you will need to make all installation measurements yourself. To do this, you will need to take the dimensions of the open window opening (its width and height) and add 2 cm and 3 cm to the results obtained, respectively.

After completing the order, you should receive from the performing company a ready-made frame with a mosquito net complete with a set fastening elements for her. This kit should include two pairs of fasteners to be installed on the top and bottom edges of the structure. When installing, try not to confuse the upper and lower sets of fasteners, while paying attention to the fact that the upper strips are noticeably wider than the lower ones.

Attaching to existing fasteners

If there are elements on the window frame internal fastening the mesh frame is taken by the side edges (or special handles) and simply placed with its upper edge under the brackets while simultaneously lifting the entire frame upward until it stops. Then the lower edge of the mesh is inserted into the fasteners located at the bottom of the structure, after which the frame is simply lowered into them and aligned to the installation site.

The design of a mosquito net usually includes:

  • frame profile;
  • mullion profile;
  • special connecting corners;
  • fastening cord;
  • corner profile;
  • 4 plastic or metal holders (z-mounts).

After attaching the mosquito net to balcony door, window in the room or on the balcony, you can completely forget about annoying insects. This will help you avoid using fumigators and other harmful chemicals to control insects. In addition, the device protects against dirt, dust, and the penetration of allergens into the house - plant particles, poplar fluff. It also ensures the safety of pets when the window is open.

Among the main advantages of this design:

  1. Ease of use. How to remove a mosquito net from a window? - you won’t have such a question, since the nets are easy to install and just as easy to remove if necessary - for washing, for example.
  2. You can wash the mesh with regular soap and a sponge.
  3. Aesthetics and attractive appearance - the installed mesh will not spoil even the elaborate design of the room.
  4. The mesh has tiny holes that can protect not only from insects, but also from raindrops. At the same time, the material does not block the view from the window in any way or impede the access of fresh air.
  5. The design is durable because it includes metal (aluminum) frame elements and fiberglass.
  6. The material is incredibly resistant to stretching, tearing, bending tension, and in addition, does not fade in the sun.
  7. Due to its small thickness, the mesh is compact, which means it can be stored anywhere.

Types of mosquito nets

When deciding how to install a mosquito net on plastic windows, it is worth determining what type of structure you will use. The main varieties here are:

  1. Framework It is considered the simplest and most affordable in terms of cost. It can be removable and extendable. This type is ideal when there is no need to constantly open the mesh. If the mesh is made large, then an additional reinforcing bar is installed in the middle.

  2. One of the varieties of frame mesh is considered to be plunger mesh - it is not attached to special corners, but is mounted directly into the window opening.

  3. Velcro design or tape is also elementary. It is mounted on the inside of the window sash and can be easily removed if necessary.

  4. The mosquito net can be attached to the balcony door type standard door . It is hinged and opens inward or outward - just like a regular door. In the closed position, the mesh is held by special magnets, and a handle is provided for convenient opening.

  5. Roll considered one of the newest inventions. It includes a guide profile, a mesh roll and a special cross bar with handles. The principle of using the product is reminiscent of roller shutters - when open, the mesh is hidden in a box above the door. This is the ideal solution for large windows ny openings and glazed balconies.
  6. Pleated similar to a roll structure, but moves horizontally, gathering into an accordion. This mesh can decorate the interior with its original appearance. Designers often decorate pleated fabrics with patterns and other decorative elements and experiment with colors.

We talked about the features of nets for balcony doors on how to make a net for a door with your own hands.

And about that, read here. In the warm season, this thing can be very useful, especially if your windows are on the sunny side.

Features of fastening mosquito nets

Attaching a mosquito net to plastic windows or doors can be done using 4 basic types of fasteners:

  1. The plunger mount is considered the most expensive, but also the most reliable and resistant to wind. The plunger is a special metal part with length adjustment. It uses springs. The mesh with this fastening is easy to remove and put on. By the way, the plunger is suitable for windows of any type.
  2. The most unreliable fastening is considered to be a “flag” fastening - fastening using small plastic hooks. However, it may break due to a strong gust of wind.
  3. Metal corners (z-shaped fasteners) also make the fastening reliable. However, such corners must be tightly fitted to the frame, and also additionally secured to it from inside the room.
  4. Plastic corners are also considered a popular type of fastening. They are located on the outside without changing the design of the windows. The mesh can be easily removed if necessary. In addition, this design will not interfere with the normal closing of the window.

How to install a mesh on a balcony door

Work on installing a mosquito net on a balcony door should begin with the correct measurements - with the door open from the outside and always tightly. After this, the method of fastening the structure is determined - it depends on the design features of the door and the location of the mesh.

Then they prepare the tools and components necessary for the work - these are self-tapping screws, a screwdriver, hinges and a clamping mechanism, magnets. Before installing the mosquito net, the attachment points for the hinges are marked, after which the hinges are fixed to the door profile with self-tapping screws. After the loops are inserted into the mosquito net, a clamping mechanism is installed. At the final stage, clamping magnets are installed, which are also secured with self-tapping screws.

Installing a mosquito net on a window

Installing a mosquito net with your own hands on plastic windows begins with assembling the structure.

Tip: Before you start installing and assembling the mesh with your own hands, you need to take the correct measurements.

As a rule, the size of the anti-mosquito structure practically corresponds to the dimensions of the window sash. This needs to be checked - the window sash is opened and measured along the light opening, after which 20-30 mm is added to the height and width.

The plastic frame profile is cut in strict accordance with the window opening. An additional crossbar can also be mounted here - it is designed to increase the rigidity of the structure, which is necessary with a large height-to-width ratio.

At the top and bottom, the frame profile is reinforced with an impost, usually made of aluminum. This guarantees the strength of the entire product.

After the profile is ready for assembly, it is connected with corners. These corners are made of especially durable PVC (1-2 mm thicker than the profile) - therefore, the structure becomes resistant to deformation.

The mesh is pulled over a fastening cord, and then this cord is mounted from the inside into the frame profile, as a result of which the fabric is reliably stretched and completely secured.

After that they are mounted on the frame metal elements corner profile, which are needed to secure the structure in the window.

Lastly, 2 handle holders are attached to the mosquito net, thereby ensuring ease of installation. Then the fully assembled mosquito net is installed on the window.

If you are going to install an anti-mosquito net on a window, and you will have it already assembled, then keep in mind that the width finished product should exceed the dimensions of the window opening by 2 cm, and the height - 3 cm. Together with the mesh, special fasteners are supplied in the amount of 4 pieces. (Two pairs). Each pair has an upper and lower element, with the upper one being wider than the lower one.

These fasteners are placed on the frame and screwed - the main thing is not to confuse the sequence. So, the lower elements are attached first - so that the edge installed mesh shifted 1.5 cm below the window opening. And in order to determine the place of fastening of the upper element, add 1 cm to the height of the mesh and measure this distance from the fastenings below. The mesh is simply inserted into the grooves, being attracted to the frame and falling down.

As a result of simple manipulations, you will receive an effective barrier to insects and reliably protect your home from blood-sucking flies, wasps and moths. In addition, the mesh cells allow you to capture even small particles of dust and large debris - which means even the air in your room will become cleaner.

Reading time ≈ 10 minutes

Window mosquito net for plastic windows is an important accessory for summer period. Manufacturers of plastic windows offer mosquito nets complete with window frames, but branded designs are not cheap, and multiplying the number of nets by the number of windows in the apartment will result in a hefty sum. More budget option is a self-made insect net - it will be just as effective, aesthetic, durable and light. And to create it you will only need a couple of hours of time and a simple tool.

Types of mosquito nets

Mosquito net designs can be of several types:

  • Frame. They are an aluminum frame with a stretched panel. This is the only type of design that allows you to produce a mesh of various geometric shapes, while other designs can be exclusively rectangular. Effective, easy to install, inexpensive and durable. They protect the room not only from mosquitoes, but also from sand and even dust, and prevent animals from falling out of the window.
  • Pleated. These are modern, high-tech mosquito nets, the fabric of which is made of special plastic. The operating principle is similar to an accordion. Pleated designs are great for large windows (the width and height of which are more than 3 m).
  • Rolled. The design involves rolling the mesh into a roll cassette in case of irrelevance (for the winter), and there is no need to dismantle the system. Due to this, the structure wears less and has a longer service life. The advantage is space saving.
  • Sliding. This design works on the principle of sliding doors. Is used for sliding windows and doors on balconies, terraces, verandas. For reliable bridging of gaps around the perimeter in sliding systems A special sealing pile is used.

Also, meshes may differ based on other parameters: method of fastening (on Velcro/brackets/hooks/pins), by the presence of a frame (frame/frameless), by location of installation (external/internal).

Design characteristics and selection features

To be sure of the type of design, you need to consider the following points:

  1. Frequency of window openings.
  2. Type of house (private/multi-storey). In the case of an apartment building, the number of floors is also taken into account.
  3. Window frame material (wood/plastic).
  4. For plastic windows, the type of opening of the sashes is taken into account: swing, turning, tilting, combined.
  5. When choosing the material of the panel, the characteristics of the terrain (dusty, poplar fluff), as well as the presence of pets in the house, are taken into account.

The main functional element of the insect net is the panel, so when choosing it, consider the following parameters:

  • thickness;
  • cell size;
  • cell shape;
  • type of material and its strength.

To understand what cell size you need, decide on the type of insects in your area, as well as other nuances (presence of poplar trees, dustiness of the area, etc.). The largest cells are considered to be 3.7 * 3.7 mm in size. If the holes are larger, they will not be able to protect against the penetration of mosquitoes and flies, not to mention midges and small debris. Cells measuring 3*3 mm are considered standard and are suitable for most areas. Cells measuring 2*2 and 1.5*1.5 mm perfectly protect against mosquitoes and midges (small dipterans). Sections of 1*1 mm and 1*0.25 mm allow you to protect the room not only from insects, but also from fluff, small debris, sand and even dust.

The most common types of cells:

  1. Anti-dust - section 1.5*1.5 mm (also 1*1 mm). Durable and wear-resistant, protects against large and small insects, but light transmission is low, therefore it is recommended to use the Anti-Dust cloth only in southern regions with high insolation.
  2. - designed to protect the room from mosquitoes and flies (ineffective against midges), allows air and light to pass through well. The cross-section can be 2.5*2.5 mm or 2.5*3.5 mm. For production, polyester impregnated with a special substance is used.
  3. Standard - section 3*3 mm, average strength.

Main types of mosquito nets by purpose.

Cells are most often rectangular and hexagonal, like a honeycomb. The former retain dust well, but do not transmit light and air well. Hexagonal cells are suitable for areas with an abundance of midges and little sunlight in the summer.

Regarding the material, previously mosquito nets were made of fiberglass with PVC coating. Such material is now considered ineffective and outdated: it transmits poorly sunlight and air, and later a short time the cloth itself turns into a dust collector due to destruction under the influence of ultraviolet radiation. Polyester is used to make modern meshes.

The color of the panel is important - contrary to popular belief, a light-colored panel greatly reduces the clarity and contrast of the picture, but increases the visibility of the room from the outside. Therefore, when choosing a panel, you need to focus on dark colors: black, brown, gray.

After you have become familiar with the main types and parameters of designs for plastic windows, and have decided on your choice, you can begin making mosquito repellent window stacks with your own hands. At home, the easiest way is to make a simple frameless mesh (stationary and removable) or a frame structure.

Manufacturing of frameless mesh

The most affordable, lightest and in a fast way is the production of a stationary mesh. To do this you will need a minimum amount of materials:

  • Panel (dimensions correspond to the parameters of the window with an increase of 1 cm on each side).
  • Fabric tape (length equal to the perimeter of the panel) for better adhesion of surfaces.
  • Glue for fixing the structure.
  • Metal buttons for additional fixation in case of wooden windows.

The process of work is as simple as possible: you need to measure the parameters of the window and cut out a panel of the appropriate size, attach a tape along the perimeter of the panel with glue and then glue the mesh panel itself to the fabric tape. All work will take about an hour.

This design has one significant drawback - it cannot be opened or removed for repair/cleaning. When the need for washing arises, the entire structure will have to be dismantled and reinstalled after the work has been done.

Removable design

It makes much more sense to choose a removable design with Velcro. This option is also budget-friendly, time-efficient and effective. However, its obvious advantage is that it is “reusable” - if necessary, the mesh can be slightly opened or completely removed for washing. And if you choose high-quality glue (for example, transparent rubber assembly adhesive Tytan), then it can be removed without a trace, which is especially important for preserving the attractive appearance of the windows.

Necessary materials:

  • Mosquito cloth.
  • Construction adhesive.
  • Velcro tape.
  • Thread and needle.

The progress of work is as follows:

  • Take measurements of the inner quarter of the window frame - this is where the structure will be attached.
  • Cut the panel and Velcro to the required size.
  • Using mounting adhesive, attach one side of the Velcro (the one with the hooks) to the window frame, and sew the second part of the Velcro (the fleecy one) around the perimeter of the mesh.

Before fixing the Velcro to the frame, the window must be thoroughly washed to remove dirt and degreased with alcohol - this will achieve better adhesion.

You need to remove the mesh very carefully - during the process, the fleecy part of the Velcro can become detached from the panel. That's why they're often like that frameless structures are installed on balconies, terraces and other premises where they remain in service throughout the year.

An effective alternative to regular Velcro can be burdock buttons or soft bipolar magnetic tape.

Manufacturing of frame mesh

Frame structures will require more time to manufacture, but they can also last longer. This option is suitable not only for windows, but also for doors.

To make a mosquito net for a window with your own hands (for wooden or plastic windows), prepare the following materials and tools:

  • Anti-mosquito cloth (window dimensions + 10 cm allowance on each side).
  • Cable channel with rectangular cross-section 10*15 mm.
  • Metal corners (4 pcs.).
  • Blind rivets (16 pcs.).
  • Assembly adhesive.
  • Roulette.
  • Scissors and knife.
  • Electric drill.

Blind rivets for fastening the structure

The design manufacturing process consists of the following stages:

  • Take measurements of the window and cut the frame from the cable channel accordingly. The ends should be at an angle of 45°.
  • Connect the structure using corners and rivets, having previously drilled holes in the profile.
  • Cut the mosquito net according to the measurements of the frame and leave an allowance of 2-3 cm around the entire perimeter.
  • Starting from the long side part, we clamp the panel with the cover of the cable channel.
  • The panel must be attached smoothly, without distortions or sagging. To do this, start fastening from the long side, then move to the opposite side. It is best to do this step with an assistant, since it is necessary to create a slight tension in the mesh.
  • Excess fabric must be cut off with scissors.
  • For greater strength and fixation, as well as to prevent snapping, some places can be additionally secured with glue (apply it between the profile and the cover).

Methods of fastening the frame structure

After constructing the mosquito repellent frame, it needs to be attached to the window. There are several ways to do this:

  • Using plungers. A very simple fastening, however, it has a number of disadvantages: they damage the window frame, hold poorly (they can be blown away by the wind if mounted externally), and are quite expensive.
  • Using Z-profiles. This is a reliable method of fastening, in which the entire structure looks very compact, neat, and takes up minimal space. The disadvantage is the loss of warranty on window frames as a result of drilling them for fasteners.

This installation method is also extremely dangerous for self-mounting on multi-storey buildings - to do the work, a person must lean half out of the window.

  • Using staples. This method of fastening is similar to the previous one. The difference is that the staples are attached to the mesh frame. The design can be external or internal; during installation, the frames of plastic windows are not damaged, therefore the warranty on the windows does not expire. However, when winter storage all structures will have to be covered with material (for example, cardboard) so that the fastenings do not tear the mesh.

Various ways to attach the frame to the window.

Mosquito net care

A homemade mosquito net must be properly cared for. Being a barrier between the outdoor space and the room, it traps not only large and small dipterans, but also debris, drops of water, fluff, sand and dust. Over time, these contaminants accumulate on the mesh, turning it itself into a source of dirt. Therefore, if the mesh is to be dismantled, it must be removed and cleaned 1-2 times a year. If the structure is not removable, it needs to be updated every year (taking into account low cost stationary home-made structures, this will not pose a financial difficulty).

  • The frame and fastenings should be wiped with a damp sponge, you can add detergents.
  • The cloth itself must first be cleaned dry (vacuum or gently clean with a soft brush).
  • Next, the cloth should be washed with cool water without detergents (even the most non-aggressive ones).
  • To dry the cloth, the natural method is preferable, away from radiators and heaters - due to temperature differences, the fibers of the cloth may be damaged.

So that the mosquito net you create yourself will serve you long years, it is recommended to remove it for the winter and store it in an upright position (without folding it!).

As you can see, a mosquito net for a window is very cheap; it is simply assembled and mounted on plastic windows. By spending just a couple of hours on making a simple design, you will get reliable protection from dirt, dust and annoying insects without a blow to the family budget!
