A house with an attic is now a very common option. People, not wanting to lose priceless space, equip the attic. Thus, a small one-story house can turn into a full-fledged cottage. This article will present the advantages of a house with an attic, as well as give advice on planning such a structure and present house designs.

Important points when building a house with an attic

It is imperative that when building an attic, you need to think about good thermal insulation and bring your ideas to life, since the upper part of the building is subject to constant temperature changes. Waterproofing will also be an important aspect.

All materials should be lightweight. No need to overload the walls and foundation with heavy roofing, furniture and insulation materials.

Usually this room is a spacious one-piece room, sometimes it is necessary to equip partitions. You can do this from light drywall, again, so as not to overload the design.

Windows are made on an inclined surface. And the installation of such windows is not cheap, so it is worth calculating the costs in advance so that there are no unpleasant surprises. It is difficult to do this on your own and you can ruin the entire structure, so it is best to pay extra and turn to professionals.

Pros and cons of the attic in the house

All large quantity people want to equip an attic in their house and there are weighty explanations for this:

 • Savings in construction and decoration
 • Increasing the usable area of the house
 • Ease of communication in the attic
 • Reducing heat loss through the roof
 • When arranging the attic, there is no need to move out for the duration of the repair, all residents can safely be on the ground floor
 • Possibility to place an extra bedroom or non-residential premises
 • Opportunity to show your Creative skills in the design of such an unusual room

But, despite all the advantages, such houses have a number of disadvantages:

 • If the attic is not built according to the rules, then problems associated with freezing and heat loss may occur.
 • The high cost of attic windows
 • Possibility to reduce lighting during snowy winter

Layout of a one-story house with an attic

A one-story house, in all its apparent simplicity, is not at all so simple and has a lot of nuances that must be resolved at the design stage.

Basic rules for designing a house with an attic

When creating a plan for a one-story house with an attic, you need to consider the following rules that will help you get a beautiful and durable house with high functionality:

 1. Additional load must be calculated. If the house is already ready and it is decided to make an attic, then you need to calculate in advance the load that will be placed on the walls, because if this is not taken into account, then the first floor simply cannot withstand what will be higher.
 2. It is necessary to design in such a way that the roof is high enough, approximately 2.5 meters, for an adult to be comfortable in this room.
 3. Correct roof. When designing a roof, it should be taken into account that a gable type roof can increase the useful space of a room by 67%, but a sloping roof will make the space 90% larger in relation to the first floor. by the most the best option, which will give a 100% increase in area will be the rise of the roof by 1.5 meters.
 4. Heating, the supply of electricity, water and other communications must be thought out. All this is transferred from the first floor and should be displayed in the plan initially.
 5. Be sure, if there is a need for partitions, their places are fixed in the plan, as well as places for windows.

Important! All fire safety requirements must be met and an evacuation plan from the attic must be drawn up.

Ladder device

Projects of houses with an attic should contain a staircase layout with which you can get to the attic. If there is no comfortable ascent and descent, then living in such a house will be inconvenient for its owners.

If you think about the attic even during the construction of the house, then you need to immediately think about where to install the stairs, depending on the correctness and ease of placement. It is worth considering the fact not only of a comfortable ascent and descent, but also taking into account the savings in time spent on ascent.

Attic in one-story house- This is usually the room in which the bedroom or children's room is located. In such houses, you can not install a large massive staircase, but save precious space by installing a staircase with a small width or screw type, with minimal platforms between marches.

If it is planned to build a 6 * 6 or 8 * 8 house, then it will be most profitable to make an exit near the roof ridge. Projects of houses 8 * 10, 9 * 9 and 9 * 12, as well as 10 * 10 are less sensitive to arrangement ladder construction, since it will occupy a smaller percentage of the entire area of the first floor and will fit better into the design and project.

When designing a staircase, remember that the space must also include approaches to it. In many attic projects currently being offered, at first glance, everything is in order, but the staircase is the weak point.

Even if the house is being built according to a ready-made and verified project, you should definitely pay attention to how the staircase structure is located, whether it prevents you from moving freely and leaving other rooms of the house.

Examples of projects of one-story houses with an attic

The attic can act as a residential or non-residential premises, but regardless of the purpose, it must be done according to the rules and pre-designed. Below are photos of several of the most common with an attic.

Projects of houses with an attic 8 * 10

This size of houses is suitable for those whose plot is not too extensive, but there is a desire to build a full-fledged house.

Project 1

After the completion of the construction on this project, a completely full-fledged and very functional attic floor with several rooms is obtained, which, at the discretion of the owner, can be converted into children's or guest bedrooms, a bathroom and a master bedroom. The presence of large windows helps to better illuminate the attic even on winter days.

Project 2

This is a project of a cottage in ecological style. On the ground floor of the house there is a spacious dining-living room. On the attic floor there are three rooms, a bathroom, a hall and a balcony. Following this project will help create a complete home for a large family.

Projects of houses with an attic 9 * 9

If the area allows, you can slightly increase the size of the house.

Project 1

At first glance, this is an ordinary house, no different from all the others. But inside, on the first floor, there is an office and a living room - a dining room, and in the attic part there are three rest rooms and a bathroom. hallmark of this design is a skylight with a balcony above the entrance.

Project 2

A small village house with a dining room, kitchen and toilet on the first floor and rest rooms and an additional bathroom on the second. A wide staircase, comfortable for descent and ascent, leads to the attic. Perfectly fit into the landscape of a calm countryside village.

Projects of one-story houses with an attic 9 * 10

These houses are larger in size and require sufficient space, but at the same time, the planning functionality is high inside.

Project 1

Laconic house with a large living room on the first floor and bedrooms with a bathroom on the second. The attic is equipped with a balcony. Spacious windows do not interfere with the flow of light into the premises. This option is not too expensive, but incredibly beautiful and practical.

Project 2

A simple house with a calm design, the eye stops at the presence of a bay window and a balcony. The house is intended for a large family. On the ground floor there is an entrance hall, smoothly turning into a hall, from where you can get to the nursery, kitchen and bathroom. There is also a wide staircase to the attic, where there is a bedroom, 2 rooms for dressing rooms and a fairly large bathroom.

Conclusion

There is nothing better than spacious and cozy house. In order not to waste useful space, you can attic space equip under the attic, where spacious rooms of various functionality can be perfectly located. It is enough to look at the projects of houses and choose the right one, bring it to life and new house will delight their owners for years to come.

A small dacha can be enlarged in terms of its usable living space by using an attic as the second floor. In fact, this is an attic room, with an improved layout, insulated, in which you can create everything favorable conditions good stay. And if, for example, the dimensions of the cottage are 6x6 or 8x8 m, then the attic is a doubling of the area. And this is already an increase in comfortable living in it twice.

Typical projects of houses with an attic are not a problem. They are everywhere in free access. But such an indicator as the layout of a 6 by 6 house with an attic (8x8 m) is very important. After all small area requires a special approach to ensure that it is comfortable to live in the premises, and especially to move around. After all, any cottage room will be furnished, which means that there is not much space left for free space. Although the style of minimalism can solve this problem.

But here another question arises. The sloping walls of the attic are a reduction in the area of the second floor. Plus, the price of roof windows, which is almost twice as high as ordinary wall windows. But let's look at the problem from a different angle. If you build a full-fledged second floor, plus a roof, then this is a larger capital investment than the cost of skylights, thermal insulation and the roof structure as a whole. Therefore, projects of houses 6x6, 8x8, 7x7 and so on, of course, with the construction of an attic floor, are the best solution today. And if you add a terrace to such a house, this will increase not only the area of the building, but also comfortable conditions.

Projects of houses with an attic

As mentioned above, projects of 8x8 houses with an attic, as well as 6x6, 6x8, 7x7 m and so on, are the most popular and most budgetary. Firstly, this is an economical option in terms of building a summer house. A small house is not only comfort, but also a huge savings in money. Secondly, it becomes possible to save on the construction of the second full-fledged floor. Thirdly, to change the internal layout due to the same attic.

For example, the layout of the house is 8x8 or 6x6 meters with an attic. Look at the photo above, which shows an existing cottage with an interesting layout of rooms. The first floor is intended for rest and cooking. On the second are the bedrooms. This arrangement of rooms is ideal.

At the same time, the area of each floor is up to 100 m², and the total area exceeds this indicator. pay attention to complex shape roof, which gives the structure itself a presentable appearance, and inside the attic divides the room into zones, which is very convenient.

Another house plan - 8x8 meters with an attic in the photo above with a completely different layout. It can be seen from the project that the entrance to the house is arranged from the corner of the building, and this is the original part of the building. There is a window on the second floor. The most important thing is that the layout of the second and first floors are completely identical. And this allows you to install partitions under each other, which strengthens the structure of the house, especially its non-bearing internal elements.

It should be noted that the projects of 7x7 houses with an attic are arranged exactly according to the same principle. Hence the identity of the projects. That is, one of them can be taken as the basis of the second. Of course, 7x7 m is less area, but a slight decrease in one or more rooms will not affect the overall layout of the cottage.

More attractive are houses with an attic and a veranda. In general, the veranda is a special case. This small open or closed space creates a certain completeness of a country house. Therefore, projects of houses with an attic and glass veranda 6x8 meters are very popular today. For example, here is a house, as shown in the photo above.

In fact, the veranda is a light extension, glazed and roofed, which is a continuation of the roof of the main building. But look how harmoniously it fits into the architecture of the building. Firstly, it increases the usable area of the cottage. Secondly, it performs the functions of a vestibule, which reduces the heat loss of the house itself. Thirdly, a large glazed area is daylight interior spaces first floor. In all other respects, the proposed project is still the same 6x8 m house with an attic.

The veranda can also be open, serving as a recreation area in the summer. For example, as in the photo above. How useful is this option for arranging a house with an attic and a veranda? Such projects exist, and country cottages are built on them, which means that there is a demand for them. The only disadvantage of this layout is the openness of the premises. Of course, the roof of the house covers it from above, but the veranda has no walls, so it will be necessary to fill it with oblique rain. Leaves, twigs and other debris will be carried by the wind. And this says that open version the verandas would have to be cleaned every day to keep them in decent condition.

Almost the same project, but with a glazed veranda (photo below). The benefits of this option immediately grow. True, the cost of building such a house is higher, but not significantly. After all, raise the pillars and set between them plastic windows- this is not the construction of an extension made of brick with subsequent expensive finishing. But such a veranda is already a full-fledged room, if it is insulated and heating is arranged. Therefore, it is worth taking a closer look at such a project.

By the way, the house plan of 6x8 meters with an attic and a veranda is one of the most popular. There are many variations of projects for this area. Planners and architects beat various options trying to find optimal solution the total space of the building and the number of rooms required. Often there are actually original solutions. For example, here is such a project with an open summer terrace assembled from lumber.

But even in this project one can trace standard layout rooms. That is, the entire household infrastructure is organized on the ground floor: a kitchen, a dining room, a living room and a bathroom. On the second floor are the private quarters of the owners. country cottage: bedrooms, bathroom, toilet.

And another project small house with an attic, which I would like to draw attention to. This is a cottage with a garage next to it. This space is essential today. Nowadays, a car is not a luxury. Therefore, every country dweller needs to think about the car. She must stand somewhere, not in the open air! Several options are offered: a garage in the form of a canopy or a full-fledged building in the form of an extension to the main house. The first option is shown in the photo above. It can be taken as a basis for the second option, you just have to fill the gaps between the columns with wall material.

Houses with an attic are the embodiment of a comfortable and pleasant country life. Such cottages allow great freedom in the choice of materials, design and layout of the house. In this article you will find necessary recommendations, as well as projects of houses with an attic, free drawings and photos.

Features of a house with an attic

One of the most important features of a house with an attic is, since the upper part of the structure is subject to temperature changes. It is equally important to take care of the waterproofing of the room. Choose light materials for the attic floor. This applies to and interior decoration and even furniture. Do not overload the foundation and walls due to possible appearance cracks.

A small attic area is best formed as a whole space, but if necessary, create internal partitions it is worth giving preference to drywall. This material will not put additional load on the foundation of the house.

How to build a house with an attic?

When creating a house project with an attic, it is necessary to take into account the features of this building. Subject to the following rules, you will get a beautiful and reliable solid home.

 1. Additional load calculation. It is impossible to arbitrarily attach an attic to a one-story house, as this will entail cracks with the subsequent destruction of the base. If you decide to build an attic on existing walls, take care of strengthening them.
 2. Calculation of the height of the attic. The minimum floor-to-ceiling height is 2.5 m.
 3. Correct design roofs. When designing it, it should be taken into account that the gable construction will add only 67% of the base area of the house. The so-called "broken" roof will add about 90% of the ground floor area. But raising the roof by 1.5 m can increase the area by 100%.
 4. provide communication communications between the base and the attic;
 5. think over planning, places for and windows;
 6. It is very important to comply fire safety requirements, evacuation plan from the attic.

The attic space is used rationally and does not require special investments for the construction of walls, ceilings and interior decoration.

A private house with an attic is unique design internal layout and original appearance. Favorable construction solution in relation to material costs. After all, residential square meters are increasing, and the construction of additional capital walls is not required. Also, savings are obvious if the land is small. The main thing is a properly created project.

Advantages of the attic

Attic adds residential meters home, through the use of an additional level. The room can be a great place for a workshop or a smoking room, which are not always appropriate in the main part of the house. Subject to all necessary technical rules, the attic reduces the heat loss of the building through the roof. The premises can be arranged in an interesting, individual style, distinctive from the main composition of the house.

But there are also difficulties. Skylights are not cheap, and the angle of inclination and floor beams require an experienced design look, otherwise it will not turn out very well comfortable room. In addition, with the accumulation of snow drifts, it will not be so easy to clean the windows if they are built into pitched roof. However, there are still more advantages, and technological issues can always be solved.

Features of the construction of a one-story house with an attic

A simple one-story house with an attic can be built both from foam blocks and using bricks or timber. Considering that the roof will be exposed negative impact climatic factors from the outside and a certain influence from the inside, it is necessary to take care of high-quality hydro, heat, sound and vapor barrier. Ventilation must be sufficiently functional, for which free space must be left between the thermal insulation and the roof.

Be sure to have a solid truss system. load-bearing structure they are made of wood or metal profiles (stone and concrete should not be used, this will create a high load on the ceiling). The rafters are placed at an angle of 30-60 degrees.

All elements of the attic must be strong, but light. The roof is best covered with soft or metal tiles, slate sheets. Since metal conducts heat too well, in cold weather the room will not be protected from serious heat loss. It is recommended to use as a heater mineral wool. Finish the fences with drywall. For internal partitions, plywood or drywall sheets are suitable.

Even in small houses, the attic can always be arranged in a very original and stylish way: make windows in the roof, add decorative beams. Projects where the roof has a different angle of inclination (but not less than 38 degrees) look especially advantageous, this allows you to zone the room.

Which attic is better for a private house

How exactly to arrange the attic, what size it should be and what materials will be needed, depends on several factors:

 • how many people will live in the room;
 • purpose of the attic: office, playroom, bedroom;
 • period of operation: year-round or only in the warm season;
 • how the roof is designed (gable, domed, half-hip or hip);
 • What is the building made of? brick house, foam block, cinder block, etc.);
 • material used for flooring.

The fastest and easiest will be a single-level attic under a gable roof. It will take a minimum additional elements designs. Gables in this case are used as a place for installing vertical windows.

However, most of the area remains unused, so it is more profitable to equip the attic under broken roof her. This complicates the design and construction works, but all the space will be used as efficiently as possible.

The most preferable attic is under a hipped (four-pitched) roof. The design is strong enough, does not deform under the influence external factors resistant to wind and snow. But if the building is very small, it will not work to equip a comfortable attic.

Projects of houses with an attic

The attic can become a decoration of the entire private house or be its functional addition. How the floor will be arranged and located depends on the wishes of the owners and the design of the building itself.

House with a gable roof. The first floor is represented by one large room, all the space above it is reserved for the attic. This is the simplest and budget solution if sufficient light enters through the windows and no additional daylight sources are required in the roof. The staircase in this case is taken out of the house, which saves space. This option is suitable for country house no garage.

House with attic and terrace. It can be considered both as an option for a country holiday, and as a full-fledged residential building. In this case, the terrace does not have to be located on the attic floor. Drawing in the photo below.

But the terrace will also look good as an element of the attic floor.

A fairly simple project to combine an attic over a garage. Ergonomic, comfortable, and does not take up extra square meters land plot. The ladder can be installed both in the garage and in the main part of the house. In the first case, the owner of the car receives full autonomy, which is important if you rent out a house. But the design of such a building requires the advice of a professional architect in order to correctly distribute the weight on all structural elements.

Mansards in cottages from a bar. Such houses are indispensable for a large family. Or even several couples.

If desired, you can combine everything: an attic above the first floor and a terrace above the garage.

The project might look like this.

You can find a huge selection of projects of any kind of complexity in the online store "Projects of Cottages"

Technical requirements for attics

The roof covering should be strong, but light, so it is better to choose ondulin or metal tiles.

The attic tier is more prone to heat loss and condensation, which means that you should not save on heat, waterproofing and good ventilation.

It is preferable to make internal partitions of the attic from drywall, wood and metal profile to reduce the load on the interfloor overlap.

Whatever material the roof is made of, soundproofing will require a lot of money. Sell cheap and the sounds of rain, wind and falling snow will be heard quite strongly.

The line of intersection of sloping or sloping roofs and the facade should be located at a level of about 150 cm relative to the attic floor. With the recommended floor-to-ceiling distance of at least 2.5 m for residential premises, in the attic floor the space with such parameters should be 50% or more of the entire room.

In general, an attic can be built in any one-story house, but it is better to design its location in advance, even at the stage of creating a plan for the future building.

Project for a house with an attic and a garage

A beautiful house project with an attic and a garage will not be too expensive if you first decide on the construction plan and the necessary square footage of all rooms.

If you build a house with a total area of 111.9 m 2 and residential - 70.60 m 2, plus a garage - 17.80 m 2, you will need to spend 10-25 thousand rubles on the development of an individual project.

Depending on the purpose, the attic can be built only above the garage or the entire area of the box of the house can be used. What are the projects of one-story houses with an attic, the photo is given below. Ready Plan with an attic without taking into account the territory allocated for the garage and in the absence of a basement:

Projection of the first floor

Projection of the attic floor

In this case, the entire load falls only on bearing walls boxes at home.

The angle of inclination of the roof with such a layout is 42-43 degrees, the height of the ridge is 8.0 m. The size of the attic is 32 m 2, which can be divided into three rooms, a staircase, a bathroom, a pantry and a front room.

Project for a simple one-story house

For a foam block house with an area of 139-140 m 2, without a garage and basement, basements and basements, the attic floor project can look modest and unpretentious, saving free space as much as possible for any purpose.

In small houses, in order to have more additional living space, it is possible to equip an attic space for a comfortable stay both above the box of the house and above the garage. The only exception is extensive basements. Then it is better to limit yourself to only that part of the structure where they do not exist.

The device of the truss system for a house made of timber with a gable roof

First of all, the slope of the roof must correspond to the climatic conditions of the region. Where abundant fall often precipitation, the roof should have a sharp slope of 50-80 degrees.

In areas with high intensity winds, on the contrary, sloping roofs are suitable, which will help reduce the pressure on the roof structure.

For truss systems under the attic it is necessary to install Mauerlats. These are bars 10x10 cm, which ensure the distribution of the load of the roof over the entire surface that it covers. Mauerlats are placed under rafter leg or installed along the length of the entire building. Usually used wooden structures, but if the roof is supposed to be made of metal roofing, you need to use Mauerlats from a metal profile.

The cross section of the beam is shown in the photo below.

Everything that is required to build an attic, determine the size of the room and its purpose, develop a project, study necessary materials, their number and you can start building.
