We install a sliding screen under the bath yourself. How to make a do-it-yourself bathroom screen from pvc panels sliding

Which will perform several functions at once. The easiest way is to buy a ready-made screen. However, if you are striving for individuality, then you should consider options for how to make a do-it-yourself bath screen. In this case, it will turn out to make the design of the bath based on your needs, and not templates.

The screen under the bath is a special protective fence, behind which you can hide detergents and other important accessories. Behind it, you can successfully disguise communications such as sewage, plumbing and heating pipes. That is, such a structure carries an aesthetic load.

Consider its positive aspects:

  • Functionality. From prying eyes, you can hide inventory, cosmetics, household chemicals and more.
  • Practicality. Although plumbing and sewer pipes hidden, they have easy access, as there are revision windows.
  • Aesthetics. When decorating the interior of the bathroom, the screen under the bath will hide everything that spoils appearance.
  • Easy to install. If you buy a ready-made screen, then it is very easy to assemble it. It is also quite possible to make a screen on your own.
  • Profitability. Often, from the remnants of building materials, you can make a screen under the bath. In this case, you do not need to buy anything at all, except perhaps individual elements.
  • Security. If you have small children, it is important that household chemicals are hidden.

So, we can distinguish 3 main functions that the bathroom screen performs:

  1. Protective.
  2. Decorative.
  3. Utility.

Fortunately, today you can use a variety of construction material for the manufacture of bath screens. For example, it could be:

  • plastic;
  • drywall;
  • brick;
  • ceramic tiles and more.

In addition, screens can be different types, namely deaf, with one door or with a special niche for legs and sliding screen. Thanks to this choice, you can really make the lining of the bathtub beautiful and unusual.

Now let's look at a few original ideas how to make a screen under the bath yourself.

Due to the presence of a special coating, MDF panels are excellent material for finishing work in the bathroom. They have a fairly high resistance to moisture. The structure of the panels is dense, and the plates themselves are qualitatively impregnated with a special composition that prevents the formation of mold and fungus. It is also worth noting that there is a wide variety of textures and colors of coatings.

As for the manufacture of a screen for a bath, the assembly principle is based kitchen furniture. So, the manufacturing process is as follows:

  • From wooden blocks it is necessary to mount the frame. To do this, fix the beam to the wall and floor with dowels.
  • Between themselves, the bars are connected by corners.
  • Be sure to consider the availability of access to plumbing units for their maintenance. Perhaps some part of the frame will be available for opening. To do this, you can install guides along which the doors will open.
  • The finished frame is sheathed with MDF boards. They must first be cut to size.

Design the frame itself so that when MDF installation the panels did not protrude beyond the tub. Otherwise, the finish will look ugly. Plus, water splashes falling on the end of the panel will gradually destroy it. In this case, even no impregnation will help.

If you are a supporter of a capital structure, then the bath screen can be made of brick. However, in this case, further cladding will be required. First, install the bath in its "legitimate" place. After under the bathroom around the perimeter, outline the location of the first row. In most cases, laying half a brick is enough. Before starting laying, you should immediately decide on what material the surface of the laid wall will be faced with. If this is a tile, then the laying should not be carried out flush with the edge of the bath, but go a little deeper - exactly the thickness of the tile and glue.

In the place where the siphon will be installed, it is necessary to build a small window. Later it can be covered with doors. You can buy them ready-made or make them yourself by attaching them to awnings. When laying bricks, do not lay the bath at the very top. A gap of up to 2 cm should be left between the last row of bricks and the bathroom itself. Then this seam is filled with mounting foam.

When the laying of the walls is ready, and the mortar has dried, you can proceed to the finishing work. As an option, you can veneer with ceramic tiles. After its laying, the seams are rubbed with grout. The result is a durable and beautiful bath screen.

In terms of screen formation, drywall is the most suitable material. From it you can make a design of any shape. The production of the screen begins with the installation of a metal frame. Although for the frame you can use wooden beam OK, but given the high humidity of this room, it is better to use metallic profile.

When installing the frame, please note that a layer of drywall will be fixed on top, as well as facing material, it could be a tile. Therefore, when installing a profile, be sure to consider this thickness. Accordingly, the profile should be fixed with a slight recess from the edge of the tub.

To do this is quite simple. From the edge of the bathtub on the floor, mark the line. You can measure it with a level or a plumb line. Also, this line can be marked on the wall to which the bath screen will adjoin. After drawing a line along the entire bath, step back from it by the thickness of drywall, glue and tile. On average, this distance can be equal to 23.5 mm.

After that, the UD profile is fixed along the marked line. The profile is pre-coated with sealant. This will completely eliminate the penetration of moisture under the bath. Now it's time to install the CD profile with a step of up to 600 mm. Where it is planned to manufacture a window, profiles are additionally mounted to secure the door. When the frame is completely ready, it should be sewn up with moisture-resistant drywall.

When choosing screws, be sure to consider their length. If they are too long, then there is a risk that the self-tapping screw will screw into the acrylic bath.

When all drywall is screwed on, it should be revetted. Ceramic tiles are ideal for this.

Schemes

On these diagrams you can see the sequence of making a screen for a plasterboard bath:

If your bath has a non-standard rectangular shape, then the screen can also be made under the corner. You can also use drywall for this. The framework is made of a metal profile. Incisions are made on it, and after that it is given any shape. In this case, 2 similar profiles should be made. To strengthen the frame, vertical profiles must be mounted. Also, the frame is installed with a small recess from the edge of the bath rim. This will allow you to install the facing material (tile) on the same level as the bathroom.

As for the drywall itself, when screwing it, it is important to carefully give it a curved shape. There are two options for how to do this. The first is to make cuts on drywall with the same pitch and gently bend it. Also upper layer cardboard can be wetted and placed at a slight angle to the wall. Gradually, under its weight, it will acquire the desired shape.

The first option is more practical if the bending angle is too large.

This type of screen also has its own distinctive features. For example, ready-made sliding products. However, not in all cases they are suitable for the size already purchased and installed bath. Moreover, for acrylic bathtubs, acrylic screens are often included, which are suitable exclusively for a specific bathtub model. But in this case, the screen is deaf. Such products are not made sliding. Therefore, we suggest that you consider the option of manufacturing a sliding screen based on a finished design.

To do this, you must have a guide along which the door will move. You will also need to cut the panel into two parts. One of them can be fixed, and the second is mobile. However, both parts can be movable. In this case, the guide should have two lines for moving the doors. In this way, a frame is made, on which the guide should be fixed under the rim of the bath and on the floor. A guide is attached to it and doors are installed. Without fail, handles are attached to the door, for which it will be possible to move the door. In this case, it will turn out to make a sliding plastic screen.

To give a bath original look, then you can build a mirror screen. Its manufacture is similar to the process of making a plastic screen. To move the sash, plastic or metal guides are used. They have small rollers, thanks to which the smooth movement of the mirror screen will be carried out.

The material is fastened with special clips for glass. Pay attention to the quality of fastening. It must be reliable. Additionally, a mirror can be glued to liquid nails. In this case, it will not fall off.

It is not recommended to use Double-sided tape. The bathroom has high humidity and often high temperatures. This can adversely affect the adhesive tape, which simply ceases to perform its main functions and the mirror falls off.

This type of screen has its significant disadvantages. For example, water droplets will always remain on the surface of the mirror, which, after drying, form spots. Therefore, after each bath, the mirror screen must be wiped.

Fabric materials can be used as a screen, such as artificial leather, waterproof nylon material, membrane structure fabric, polyester material, etc.

How to fix such a screen? Everything is pretty simple. Using special glue, glue one side of the Velcro to the inside of the bathtub rim. If necessary, then the edges of the curtain (screen) and the bottom must be sheathed on sewing machine. The other side of the Velcro is sewn to the upper edge of the curtain. Then the curtain is attached to the tub with Velcro. This is a cheap option for a bath screen, which is very important on a limited budget.

If you do not want to make a screen yourself, but decide to buy it, then pay attention to some of the nuances of the right choice:

  1. In the case when the bathroom is spacious, then almost any screen can fit.
  2. Provided that the bath room is small, for example, as in Khrushchev, the choice is limited. In this case better fit sliding door or removable and monolithic. As for the monolithic, it is ideal for a narrow bath.
  3. Sliding screen models are much more convenient when they are immediately equipped with shelves. In this case, it is possible to hide all the necessary accessories for the bath, household chemicals, etc.
  4. If you have an acrylic bath, then in most cases the screens are included. If not, then immediately pick it up in the store so that it is completely suitable.
  5. Pay attention to the quality of the handles. They must be made of a material that does not rust.
  6. If the selected screen has legs in its design, then they must be adjustable. Otherwise, it will be difficult to install it under individual characteristics baths, especially when the floor is not completely level.
  7. It is best when the fittings are made of metal. Plastic can break quickly.

So, from this article, we learned with you how to make a screen under the bath with our own efforts. We saw different variants arrangement of this important element. If you bought a ready-made screen, then we also looked at how to install it correctly. In addition to this article, you can watch videos that demonstrate some of the technologies. If you have your own experience or know of other possible arrangements for the bathroom space, then write about your experience and ideas at the end of this article.

The diagrams show the details of installation and assembly of the screen:

In family life. This is not just a room where hygiene procedures are carried out. For many people, this is a place of rest, relaxation and just a secluded place where you can be alone. It is unlikely that you will be able to relax in a room where rags of the for various purposes, and packs are placed in the corners detergents and vials of household chemicals.

Therefore, most people strive to make the bathroom as comfortable, beautiful, and clean as possible. Someone is satisfied with simple painted walls and ceiling, someone wants to finish everything with tiles and plastic, and someone can afford and natural materials like marble and onyx.

But at the same time, everyone certainly wants to close the space under the bathroom with some kind of screen (unless, of course, the bath itself is an exclusive product decorating the bathroom), since contemplation, valves and plumbing siphons is an unattractive activity.

Why do you need a screen under the bathroom

The screen that closes the bath from the sides performs several functions:

  • aesthetic, making the space more beautiful;
  • functional - allows you to use the space of the bathroom more appropriately in case of placement behind the screen of all household products and tools like a plunger, brushes for washing the bathtub and even rags for cleaning the apartment;
  • sanitary - does not allow water to flow under the bath and prevents the accumulation of dust under it, which facilitates cleaning in the room and makes it more hygienic.

In addition, the self-construction of the screen allows you to design a bathroom not as a standard “like everyone else”, but individually. For many craftsmen, this serves as a way of self-expression.

According to the installation method, the screens under the bath are divided into:

  • solid;
  • swing;

Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages, which are better to know in advance.

solid screen will seem to many the most attractive, as it allows you to best fit the bath into the interior of the room. It is the fixed screen that allows you to clad the bath in full accordance with, which gives it a uniform look.

The advantages of this method include the following:

  • a good solution for the interior of the bathroom;
  • ease of care for such a screen - a flat surface can be easily put in order with a damp cloth or sponge;
  • The service life of such a screen is practically unlimited.

But there are also disadvantages:

  • difficult access to communications located under the bathroom (usually only a small window is left in the screen), which in the event of a breakdown can lead to the need complete disassembly screen;
  • there is no way to wash the floor in the bathroom, and also check the space for mold;
  • there is nowhere to store household chemicals, since it is impossible to get anything because of the static design;
  • installation of the screen is quite labor-intensive, especially if you have to close not only one (long) side of the bath, but also the end ones;
  • must be left under the bath small niche for the feet, otherwise washing the bath will become quite inconvenient.

hinged screen- it is used mainly where there is a lot of space for opening doors, as well as in those bathrooms where furniture sets for bathrooms rooms.

In this case, hinged doors make the screen part of this set, allowing you to decorate the room in a single way. But for this, most likely, you will have to make a custom-made screen, otherwise it is difficult to achieve a complete resemblance to furniture.

Most often, such screens are made of MDF, which is similar in color to the shade of furniture.

The advantages of such structures include:

  • high decorativeness;
  • possibility to place with inside the doors are quite voluminous shelves for various accessories and household chemicals (moreover, the full opening of the doors makes their use as convenient as possible).
  • can only be used in bathrooms of considerable size or with a small amount of equipment;
  • the need to order a screen greatly increases its cost.

Sliding screens- Most Popular. In the manufacture of their own hands, this type is most often used.

Such a screen consists of two horizontal guides along which two doors move.

A ready-made screen of this type can be bought at the store or ordered if the dimensions of your bath are non-standard. Usually the length of the screen varies from 150 to 180 cm. Its height can also be changed with the help of sliding legs, which allow it to be adjusted to a bathroom of any height.

Frames and doors of such screens (both factory-made and self-made) can be made of various materials. For frames most often used:

  • - cheap, durable enough, not afraid of moisture and easy to care for the material of the most different colors and textures (the only drawback is that it can burst with a strong blow);
  • aluminum - stronger than plastic, moisture resistant, can be painted in any color (but the paint may eventually be erased from the surface of the profile;
  • an option with a roller mechanism, which allows you to make the frame invisible and makes it easier to slide the doors (but their price is much higher and it is almost always necessary to order the mechanism individually).

For the manufacture of doors, the following materials are used:

  • plastic - lightweight material, diverse in appearance, not afraid of moisture, but with an accidental strong blow it can collapse;
  • MDF - outwardly very similar to, there is wide choose textures and colors, but moisture resistance is not too high;
  • Chipboard - inexpensive, can be covered with a film, but has low water resistance (the material is quite heavy and more suitable for swing doors);
  • plexiglass - a wide variety of textures, moisture resistant and durable, looks much better than plastic, but also brittle under mechanical stress.

Making a screen with your own hands

Most often for self-manufacturing choose the option with a fixed screen having a technological hole.

Such a screen can be made in several ways:

  • lay out of brick;
  • make a wooden or steel frame and sheathe it with drywall or other board material.

brick screen - a durable stationary structure that can only be removed by completely disassembling it. Therefore, before installing it, care must be taken that all pipes, their connections, siphons and valves are in excellent condition and long years did not require repair.

For the construction of the screen wall, you can use a well-burnt brick (it does not absorb moisture well) or a partition block:

  1. First you need, in accordance with the size of the brick, mark the masonry line on the floor. More often, the wall is made half a brick thick, it can also be placed on the edge, but such a wall will be unstable.
  2. Laying is carried out in the usual manner - with dressing of the seams. For greater stability of the masonry, it is connected to the walls of the bathroom, attaching a wire to them at the level of each row.
  3. When laying out the wall, leave a hole of the required size in it in the state of communications under the bathroom.
  4. Since the bathtub expands upwards, in the upper rows it is possible to lay bricks on the edge.
  5. After the masonry dries, it is tiled or.

Never use masonry as a support for the edge of a bathtub. In order to prevent this from happening, a gap of about 1 cm is left between the top row of bricks and the bathroom, which is then foamed.

this is the easiest and cheapest type of screen to make yourself.

For its manufacture, you need to build a frame, which is then sheathed with sheets of drywall. The frame can be made of both wood and metal profiles. Using wooden frame, it needs to be painted or processed by special means to reduce the likelihood of rotting and mold.

For a wooden frame you will need:

  • bars with a size of 40 * 40 mm;
  • screws;
  • metal corners.

The order of work is as follows:

  1. Measurements are made at the location of the screen and the marking of the places where the bars are attached. In this case, it should be borne in mind that the screen frame should be slightly recessed under the bath, taking into account the thickness of the finishing layer (). If you plan to finish the plasterboard with tiles, then you need to add another thickness of the tile and the adhesive layer.
  2. The frame bars are being prepared according to the measurements: 2 horizontal and vertical bars in required quantity. If the bath is short, then 2 vertical bars along the edges of the frame will be enough. If the bath is long, then it is better to add a couple more vertical bars at a distance of 50 - 60 cm from each other for structural rigidity.
  3. In the extreme side bars, you need to drill holes for attaching the screen to the walls.
  4. Then the frame is tied with screws and corners.
  5. The frame is attached to the walls.
  6. If necessary, the lower bar of the frame can be fixed to the floor.

To make a screen you will need:

  • drywall moisture resistant;
  • hinged hinges for hanging the inspection hatch door;
  • metal latch.

Operating procedure:

  1. The drywall sheet is marked up so that it covers the entire frame.
  2. The planned panel is cut out with a construction knife or.
  3. A hatch hole is cut out in the panel and the door is hung and fixed with a latch.
  4. The screen panel is attached to the frame with screws.
  5. Check the stability of the screen and, if necessary, make its additional fastening.

The last step is to finish the surface of the screen with the selected finishing material: film, tiles, mosaics.

When using a metal profile as a frame, the procedure is the same, only drywall is fastened not with screws, but with self-tapping screws.

For self-manufacturing of screens, you can use not only the materials listed above, but also many others:

  • Wood - you just need to pick up wood that is not afraid of dampness. Such a screen can be made in the form wooden blinds- that is, with gaps that will help ventilate the wood and the space under the bathroom.
  • Plastic lining - mounted vertically on the frame so that water does not linger in the seams. You can also make a screen with narrow gaps.
  • Fabric - for such screens, quick-drying fabrics are selected that are easy to care for: polyester, nylon, membrane "breathing" fabrics. Such screens are obtained by upholstering or covering the frame with the selected material.
  • Ready-made can be used as an inspection door inspection hatch suitable color.

Sometimes they make screens, the walls of which deviate outward with the help of special fittings. On the inner surface such screens have narrow but long baskets for storing cleaning products, sponges and other necessary accessories in the bathroom.

Often in the kit they have a ready-made screen made of the same material. All components are supplied with screen shields.

It is more difficult to make a screen for a corner or curved bath. A bent metal profile sheathed with plastic is better suited here.

If you don’t want to equip your bathroom with a boring purchased screen, then you can always make an inexpensive and beautiful home-made one. True, you will have to spend time and make efforts, but the product will be piece, and your bathroom will be exclusive.

The whole is made up of little things, and the look of the bathroom is made up of seemingly insignificant, at first glance, interior details. And sometimes such annoying little things as water pipes peeking out from under the bathtub or a bucket with a mop can completely spoil the impression and nullify all your efforts to restore “chic and shine” in the bathroom.

The solution to this problem could be useful thing like a bath screen. If you make an effort and show some imagination, it will not only hide everything you need from prying eyes, but will also become an independent element of the bathroom interior.

Screen types

You can buy a bath screen in any hardware store. They have two types of construction - solid and sliding, but the material used for manufacturing is different.

To date, the most common screens from the following materials:

  • plasterboard
  • from tongue-and-groove slabs
  • from ceramic tiles
  • mirror
  • plexiglass
  • acrylic
  • from PVC panels
  • from MDF.

Solid

A solid screen under the bath is the simplest and most obvious solution. Usually it is tiled with the same tiles as the entire bathroom, so that such a screen fits perfectly into the interior of the bathroom.

The disadvantage of a solid screen is that it provides neither access to water pipes nor storage various tools and household chemicals under the bathroom. If repair or replacement of plumbing is needed, then such a screen will have to be disassembled.

Sliding

A sliding screen is much more practical than a solid one, although it may not look as aesthetically pleasing.

From drywall

Drywall is the most available material for the manufacture of a screen under the bath. It is inexpensive, lightweight and it is not difficult to tailor the desired design from it. Solid screens are made of drywall, which are then tiled.

Do-it-yourself drywall screen

You can make and install such a screen yourself.

A drywall screen is installed on a frame made of timber, so first you need to build it. To do this, you will need a 4x4 cm beam, fasteners and a metal corner.

To get started, take all the necessary measurements and mark the walls and floor, then draw lines parallel to the resulting markup, but offset inside the bath by 2.5 cm

Then divide the timber into slats. You will need:

  • four slats connecting the corners of the bath to the floor
  • two slats equal to the inner line along the width of the bath minus 0.8 cm
  • two slats equal to the inner line along the length of the bath minus 1.2 cm
  • if the bath is too long, it is better to prepare two or three slats that will serve as additional supports.

Steps for making a bath screen:

  1. Position the vertical rails outside corners baths in accordance with the markup and fasten horizontal slats between them at the top and bottom. You will need to make two such designs for the narrow sides of the bath and one for the wide.
  2. In those rails that will be adjacent to the wall, pre-drill two holes and attach them to the wall. Using screws, fasten all parts of the structure together. To make the frame more stable, you can also attach the lower rails to the floor.
  3. After the frame is ready, you can start making the drywall screen itself. For you you will need a sheet of moisture-resistant drywall, a special metal latch and hinged hinges.
  4. After taking the necessary measurements, cut out the necessary details from drywall, leaving an overlap of 0.56 cm in width. Then it will be necessary to provide a door that will provide access to the "insides" of the bath. The door can be in the short or long part of the screen, depending on the location of the bath. Having decided on the place, cut a hole in the desired part and install the door using the hinges and latch.
  5. After that, fasten the drywall planks to the frame with screws. Do not forget to check the stability of the entire structure.

The drywall screen is ready!

The method of manufacturing the screen described above is only suitable for standard rectangular bathtubs.

Curved screen

If you are a happy owner of a round bath, then you will have to install a special, curvilinear screen.

For a curved screen, you will also need a frame. It is assembled from a special profile for drywall. Such a profile can take any shape, you just need to make the necessary cuts on it.

  1. Prepare two such profiles that follow the contours of the bathtub - for the upper and lower parts of the frame - and fix them with self-tapping screws, retreating from the side of the bathtub a distance equal to the thickness of the drywall sheet (if the frame is supposed to be tiled, then add the thickness of the tile and glue here).
  2. Next, attach the vertical slats to the corners of the tub.
  3. After the frame is ready, moisten the sheets of drywall with water and, gradually giving it the desired shape, fix it on the frame.

Screen from tongue-and-groove plates

Tongue-and-groove slabs are building blocks that interlock with each other according to the principle of groove connection.

DIY bath screen

Before proceeding with the construction of the tongue-and-groove screen, treat the installation site with a primer.

Using a plumb line, mark the floor with a distance of 0.5 cm towards the bathtub. After that, you can start laying out the screen from the plates. The plates are connected to each other using grooves and ridges, and a binding solution is placed between them (this can be tile adhesive or gypsum plaster).

Such a screen does not look very aesthetically pleasing, so it is better to tile it from above - it was under it that we made a half-centimeter indent at the initial stage of installation.

From ceramic tiles

sliding screen

A sliding screen under the bath allows you to solve the problems associated with storing various necessary and not very things left over from repairs, household chemicals, buckets, basins and much more. In addition, it allows at any time and without extra effort repair the bathtub, since, in order to gain access to the pipes, you will not need to dismantle anything. For especially clean housewives, a sliding screen will also be a real find, as it is easy and simple to wash the floor under the bathroom and sweep out the accumulated debris with it.

You can install such a screen yourself and very quickly. The stores offer a large selection of models for bathtubs. standard sizes, and the height of the sliding screen can be adjusted independently.

Most often, sliding screens for a bath are made of plastic panels, but there are other options.

Plexiglas

A sliding screen for a bathtub made of organic glass or plexiglass is a beautiful and modern solution. This material is great for the bathroom. Its only disadvantage is insufficient strength, but this disadvantage is more than redeemed by the advantages of the material.

The plexiglass screen is easy to clean, moisture resistant and durable. In addition, this material has a huge variety of colors and textures. You can select a screen based on colors your bathroom. It can be matte, transparent and even mirrored.

Mirrored

A mirror is an essential element of any bathroom interior. In addition to its direct purpose, it is able to visually enlarge the space, as well as provide an additional play of light. Mirror elements in the bathroom can be placed in the most unexpected places, for example, under the bathtub.

A bath screen made from a real mirror is a fragile and impractical thing, so manufacturers offer mirror-coated plexiglass screens.

The mirror screen is sure to become a highlight of your bathroom interior and will not cause any trouble, as it is made of durable moisture-resistant material, which, moreover, is very easy to clean.

Acrylic

Acrylic bathtubs often sold with a screen. The screens that come with the bathroom are usually made of plastic panels with acrylic coated. Such screens are made for a specific bath model, so the universal acrylic screen, which can be installed under any bath, is quite difficult to find.

Acrylic screens are very light, inexpensive, look neat and last a long time. But such a screen can only be installed under an acrylic bath, as it has a specific mounting mechanism.

From PVC panels

PVC panels as a screen under the bath will help to become an independent element of the interior of your bathroom. You can choose a color and pattern from those available in the store, or come up with your own design.

Color screens made of PVC panels look unusual, and it is very easy to open and close them. In addition, if you do not subject it to strong mechanical stress, such a screen can last for decades.

From MDF

Imitating natural wood pattern, MDF bath screens o fit perfectly into the interior of a classic bathroom, or in a bathroom in country or eco style. A wide variety of colors makes it easy to match the screen to the color of the furniture in the bathroom. The stores have a large selection of MDF screens various designs- solid and sliding. Despite the low cost, the MDF screen looks expensive and noble.

When buying such a screen, it should be borne in mind that the models available for sale are only suitable for bathrooms of standard shapes and sizes. In addition, MDF is not a moisture-resistant material, so after three to four years of operation, the screen will swell and deform. Therefore, buy an MDF screen that will be specially treated with a moisture-proof coating.

Screen Shape

You can make a bath screen yourself, buy it in a store, or entrust its production to a professional craftsman. All these options have their pros and cons, and, in any case, first you have to decide on the shape of the future screen.

Bath screens can be of three types:

  1. In the form of a blank wall - it does not imply any open niches, it completely closes the space under the bathroom.
  2. With a recess for the feet at floor level - the notch will give you the opportunity to stand close to the bath. So it will be much more convenient to wash the bath and bathe children in it.
  3. Inclined at an angle - also allows you to get closer to the bath and, moreover, protects the floor in the bathroom from splashing water.

Where to buy or order a bathroom screen

So, you already know exactly which screen you want to install under the bath. You decide on the design, material, shape and even color. The matter remained for the small - the acquisition of the screen itself.

You can buy a screen in the store. In construction hypermarkets, a huge number of models of screens for a bath are presented. There you can talk with professional consultants, compare prices, and also determine the quality and strength of the chosen model right on the spot (fortunately, no one forbids touching goods in hardware stores). The disadvantage of this method is that you run the risk of overpaying, as sellers often “inflate” prices very much.

You can also make your own bathroom screen. So you will incur less cash costs and be able to make a design that best meets your ideas about convenience and beauty. True purchase necessary materials, and the process of making the screen itself will make you spend a lot of time and effort.

And finally, you can order a bath screen in the online store. The advantage of this method is that you can make a purchase without leaving your home and order delivery at a convenient time for you. In addition, you can save some money, as it is usually much cheaper to shop online than in stores. The downside is that when choosing a screen, you can only focus on the description and photos of the product, without being able to touch the product yourself and evaluate its quality.

Ceramic tiles are usually finished with bath screens made of plasterboard or tongue-and-groove plates. Laying ceramic tiles is very easy.

Start laying tiles from the top left corner. Grease each tile tile adhesive or put a few drops on it liquid nails. Using special crosses, align the gaps between the tiles. If a door is provided, you can put tiles on it. At the end of the work, treat the seams with grout.

You can avoid unpleasant surprises by studying all the characteristics of the screen in a hardware store and ordering it via the Internet. Then you will be sure of the quality of the selected product.

Organize the order under the bathroom will help special containers with many compartments for storing small items. In such boxes it is convenient to store various household items. In hardware stores, you can even find containers on wheels that you can move under the bathroom without the slightest effort.

In order for the bathroom to take on its finished look, a special screen will need to be installed around it to hide plumbing fixtures. If you manage to mount a reliable screen under the bath with your own hands, then in this way you can save significant money. Moreover, there are no difficulties in such work.

Screen material selection

Many people do not understand how such a screen is made under the bath with their own hands, because they have no idea what material it can be made from. In fact, there are a large number of different building materials that can be used in such a room with too high humidity. If you look at the proposed photographs of a screen for a do-it-yourself bathtub, this will make it possible to see that the following materials can be used for such work:

  1. Very convenient for this purpose is moisture-resistant drywall; it can be finished later with tiles, plaster or wallpaper.
  2. It can be sheathed with moisture-resistant MDF boards, also covered with trim.
  3. PVC panels are suitable for this.
  4. You can use a sliding screen installed under the bath or with drop-down doors.

If we consider all these options, then only a bath screen made of PVC panels will not require special finishing in the future. This material is very convenient to use because it is practical, completely moisture resistant and easy to clean. In addition, it is also durable, and if you need to make repairs to the screen, you can change one or more strips of plastic.

Requirements

When the desire has matured to solve the urgent question of how to make a beautiful screen for a bath, you should first understand what requirements should be placed on it.

  • Access at any time to sewer units, the screen must have an opening opening or doors.
  • The connection of the floor with the screen in certain cases must be sealed so that moisture does not enter under the bath.
  • The screen should not be a supporting structure, so it is advisable to make sure that the bath cannot lean on it.

If you make a high-quality bath screen using moisture-resistant drywall or PVC panels, then you can leave free space under it so that it cannot interfere with your feet. But in this case, this gap should be at least 10 cm, so that emerging moisture can be wiped out under the bathtub.

Screen mounting

You can watch the video correct installation bath screen; only this will make it possible to understand how to make it and what materials will be required for this. Consider the option of drywall and PVC panels. To do this, you first need to install reliable frame. As a frame for the screen, it is quite possible to use a wooden beam 30x30 or 40x40 mm, as well as a metal profile.

So that subsequently rot does not appear on the beam and a fungus does not appear, the wood must first be treated with a special antiseptic.

But when installing the frame, if drywall is used, one should take into account not only its thickness, but also the material for the subsequent screen finishing.

In order not to be mistaken, it is necessary to make markings both on the floor and on the wall before installing the frame. And only after the frame is made, is the final stage in the form of attaching the screen under the bath, where you can use drywall, plastic or other material.

What are screens for?

Sliding models allow you to make the most of the usable area in the shower room. Conventional panels or doors are not very convenient to use, as they take up a lot of space. In order to make a do-it-yourself bath screen, you need to purchase an ordinary bathroom with attractive supports. The sides of the product must be finished with a special material, which makes it possible for the bath to have a presentable appearance.

Based on the location of communications in the shower room, it is necessary to select one or another screen model, product profile, as well as the size of the panels. Otherwise, there is a possibility that the selected frame will not fit. Water pipes are always unpleasantly striking, so the structure should be assembled only after careful measurements. Otherwise it might mess up overall design bathroom, because ugly ledges do not look very aesthetically pleasing.

However, there is another way out - to buy a standard fence, and do the paneling with your own hands. Usually, when purchasing acrylic products, plumbing installation is carried out with ready-made doors. They allow you to close the basement, taking into account space savings, i.e. rational use, which eliminates the appearance of large voids, unlike cast iron or steel products.

In addition, there is another good reason - the possibility of using this space for domestic needs. Often, household items, cleaning products or tools are stored in these niches. Here you can make wooden or plastic shelves for convenience.

Separately, it is worth noting that the basement doors help get rid of the accumulation of dirt and dust in hard-to-reach places where microorganisms or insects usually thrive.

Thus, the panels help to get rid of various negative consequences caused by unsanitary conditions. The indisputable advantages of these products include their attractive appearance, carefully designed by designers. Modern technologies make it possible not only to put sliding doors under the bathroom, but also to decorate them stylishly, colorfully and uniquely. This gives the shower room its own personality, which distinguishes it from other rooms in the apartment.

In order to determine the choice of material, you need to proceed from the operating conditions of the bathroom, as well as personal preferences. You can carefully consider the image, starting from the available tools.

  • MDF panels;
  • drywall;
  • plastic;
  • ceramics;
  • acrylic.

Separately, it should be noted that sometimes wooden elements, but they must be moisture resistant, for example, beech or bog oak. In addition, you should decide on the type of valves, i.e. the structure itself. Screens come with sliding elements, with only one door, tightly closed, and also with a special niche for legs. All these parameters are very individual and suitable for different shower rooms and directly depend on the taste of the owner or his financial capabilities.

Do-it-yourself installation. Plastic

In order to create a full-fledged screen, you need to purchase some tools. Usually, the necessary equipment, as well as related materials, are purchased in the kit. This will allow, with independent installation, to do all the work not only quickly, but also with high quality. Devices should be selected based on the material itself, for example, for wood, you will need a saw or a jigsaw, and for ceramic tiles, a glass cutter.

For plastic panels you need:

  • Wooden blocks to create a structure or supports.
  • Liquid nails for fastening various materials.
  • Lightweight UD profiles with their own fasteners.
  • Directly plastic blanks.

Separately, it is worth discussing some points, since often the bathrooms in most apartments have a combined view. This means that there is a need to take into account the scheme of the sewerage device, i.e. toilet. The placed toilet is an obstacle that must be carefully avoided when installing the screen and its subsequent use. The standard set of tools for installation is:

  1. construction stapler;
  2. perforator;
  3. specialized knife for drywall;
  4. screwdriver;
  5. square.

In order to install a screen that will repeat all the outlines of the bath, you need to measure the line or put markings that repeat all the curves of the bath. Then, with the help of screws, a profile made of metal or wooden bars is attached to flooring. Fastening is made from the inner edge, i.e. the place where they will be installed plastic panels.Using liquid nails, the bathroom itself and the surrounding surface are not damaged. Bars of wood, fixed with self-tapping screws, will ideal option for sheathing, the selected material.

Plastic strips are attached to the bars again on liquid nails. From below, a piece of plastic is attached to the top of the profile, since enough space should be left for the plastic plinth. For this, self-tapping screws designed for hardware. In this case, it is necessary to pay attention to the final stage.

This is due to the fact that it is very difficult to attach the last strip, since it is necessary to have a certain skill. You should try to combine the first and final parts, and then put on the side panel. At the same time, the resulting design must have a sufficient fit of the parts to each other. This is checked by checking the shrinkage of the grooves.

Tile

A do-it-yourself bath screen can be assembled from various materials. One of these is tile, which is used to finish sliding panels. It has visual appeal and high performance. In addition, tiles are very common, and in stores they have an extensive assortment, so there should be no problems with choosing colors or textures.

For its installation you will need:

  • special metal corners;
  • door hinges;
  • moisture resistant drywall;
  • various parts for fastening;
  • tile;
  • timber bars or metal profiles.

Decorating with ceramic products takes place according to proven technology. To begin with, a solid frame is assembled as the basis of the entire future structure. For this, wood or metal is usually used, the last option is better, of course. After that, the resulting workpiece is sheathed with plasterboard panels. A tile is applied to this base, which will be the front side of the screen.

Drywall

To install a drywall construction, you will need identical materials and appliances as for tiles. This is explained by the similarity of the process, since they are almost identical and are an integral part of each other. The very surface of the screen for the shower room can be pasted over with vinyl wallpaper, applied decorative plaster or tile. In any case, the received fence will have an attractive appearance.

Textile

One of the more exclusive and rare options is the fabric partition. She's great for non-standard way isolate the basement, however, the practicality of the screen is somewhat lost. This is due, first of all, to the enhanced care of the coating, since the fabric needs a little more attention than other materials. Covering the panels can be done independently, using improvised means.

For this option, the following types of matter are used:

For a fabric screen, it is best to prepare metal carcass or timber profiles. On the one hand, these decisions look rather strange, however, they have a practical justification. In addition, the fabric can be combined with various finishing materials or used as curtains. In the form of panels, fabric raw materials are rarely used and are used more as a supplement.

Acrylic

Acrylic bathroom screens are panels various shapes, type and color shades. They, as a rule, come complete with acrylic products, it is enough to install them correctly and they will last for more than one year. Mounting the frame does not create any difficulties and can be done by hand.

MDF

Decorative MDF panels as a sliding screen in the shower room look good. Their installation is carried out by analogy with drywall, however, it differs in that it is necessary to add anti-fungal compounds, and to prime the surface more carefully.
